Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser Visits Sunrisia

Image

Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser has arrived in the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia on an official visit. This foreign visit by the head of government of West Zilveren Berg is ahead of a major historic referendum, where the citizens of West Zilveren Berg will vote whether or not to remove the non-bloc and neutrality status of the country. In case these rules are removed, political analysts see this visit as a preparation for the possible beginning of West Zilveren Berg's shift towards a more decisive foreign policy of building closer ties with the Corentian bloc. The Chief Secretary appears to hope for that kind of an outcome, since the head of government is personally campaigning for voting to remove the non-bloc status. It is expected that in the talks with the Sunrisians, the Chief Secretary will touch on the topics of possibly replacing the current SOWEFTA–West Zilveren Berg Deep and Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with a free trade agreement, which has been talked about in West Zilveren Berg and which Sunrisia has previously expressed support for. Possibly, the sides will discuss the potential of moving the bilateral West Zilveren Berg–Sunrisia Enhanced Trade and Investment Agreement towards a more extensive and closely knit deal as well. As for other areas of cooperation, Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser might also discuss a deepening cooperative military relationship with MDAA.

President Sálût Érátân Hosts Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser In Orentan On An Official Visit

Image

Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser of West Zilveren Berg has arrived in the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia on an official visit and specifically to the national capital Orentan, where the foreign leader has already been to several times before. The Chief Secretary's convoy arrived at the Presidential Palace, where President Sálût Érátân was waiting for the foreign guest and as the Chief Secretary came out of the limo, the President greeted the head of government of West Zilveren Berg with a handshake, before the two proceeded into the Presidential Palace. After catching up with each other with casual conversation, the President and the Chief Secretary proceeded into the room, where talks would be held. It is expected that both sides will discuss strengthening political, diplomatic, economic, military, cultural, social and all other relations, while West Zilveren Berg will also seek Sunrisian support in potentially taking the country's relations with MDAA and SOWEFTA into the next level in case the non-bloc status referendum in West Zilveren Berg passes. President Érátân voiced support for expanding Corentian and West Zilveren relations in the past, but emphasized that West Zilveren Berg would have to make its' own decisions on what level of relations it wanted to see.

MDAA Training Center Opened In Vesvai

Image

The Reunified State of Vesvai is holding a ceremony on opening an MDAA training center in the nation. This is MDAA's first such center and its establishment was agreed on following an MDAA consultation. Another such center will be built in Daredland. Vesvai's Prime Minister Fila Nemo has welcomed representatives from other MDAA members: Creperia, Daredland, Edereon and Sunrisia participating in the ceremony. This could potentially be the last international event that PM Fila Nemo is hosting before a new government is formed following the snap general election and the appointment of a new Prime Minister in her place.

Opposition Questions The Ethnics Of Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser's Recent Sunrisia Visit

Opposition parties in West Zilveren Berg have questioned the ethics of the recent visit to the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia by Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser, where the head of government aimed to discuss the expansion of West Zilveren Berg's relations with MDAA and SOWEFTA to a greater level, practically moving it towards greater integration with the Corentian bloc. Opposition parties are making it clear that this is not an attack on Sunrisia, but a critique of the head of government, because the Chief Secretary is already negotiating the widening of integral relations with the Corentian bloc, despite the referendum on the non-bloc status haven't taken place in West Zilveren Berg yet. However, people from the Chief Secretary's team say that this is just a negotiation for the hypothetical future in the past and also part of the campaign, since the head of government is campaigning in favor of voting against keeping the non-bloc status. Opposition parties, a lot of whom support keeping the status quo and have protested the idea of a referendum in general, say that the head of government should campaign inside the country.

Emissary For Adversary Exchanges (EAE) Rétrî Síntâ Says There Would Be No Pre-Emptive Strike On Oblaren And Herbora, But That Sunrisia Would Defend Vesvai

Image

Image

Emissary for Adversary Exchanges (EAE) of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia Rétrî Síntâ said that the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia will not pre-emptively strike Oblaren and Herbora and specifically Herbora's part of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora in response to that part's increased militarization, and advised Vesvai not to do so, otherwise Sunrisian support could be put under question in case of aggression. At the same time, the Emissary said that the militarization of the Union's region on the border with Vesvai should not encourage the Union to think that it can threaten Vesvai, as he reiterated that Sunrisia would protect Vesvai under the MDAA mutual defense and collective security agreements, as Sunrisia has already proven with intervention and readiness for greater intervention in the recent border conflict between Vesvai and Oblaren and Herbora.

BREAKING: Sunrisia Shoots Down A Union Air Force Jet

Image

The Armed Forces of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora and specifically the Union Air Force is reporting that Sunrisia has shot down a Union Air Force jet over the ocean. The warplane was struck by a missile from a Sunrisian warship. The pilot survived as he managed to eject himself from the plane before it got hit. The plane itself crashed into the ocean while the pilot landed in the ocean with a parachute. The Union Navy quickly sent a ship to save the pilot and take him to land. Preparations are being undertaken to fish out the remains of the destroyed ship from the ocean. Minister of Defense of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora Varsi Polvandet has condemned Sunrisia and said that although the Union will not treat this as an act of war that should warrant a response, he said that Sunrisia is on the edge of crossing a line. The Minister mentioned how in the past Sunrisia often was provoking an armed clash through the Union's border violations by its air forces and navy but now Sunrisia acts emboldened by openly engaging in aggression and believing there would be no repercussions. The Minister said that Sunrisia didn't have a right to attack because the Union's jet was over international waters and that next time the Sunrisia ship could sink because of a counter-attack or a pre-emptive attack. The Minister of Defense also questioned the necessity of Sunrisian forces being present on the Island of Vesvai so close the Union's territory since Sunrisia has no business being here.

Sunrisian Side Offers A Different Story On The Shoot-Down Of A Warplane Of Oblaren And Herbora Over The Ocean

Sunrisian Naval Forces had shot down a jet belonging to the Air Force of Oblaren and Herbora. The jet was hit with a missile from a Sunrisian warship. The pilot ejected, while the destroyed jet fell into the ocean. The Union Navy rescued their military's pilot, while preparing to fish out the jet's remains from the bottom of the ocean. The Union's side accused Sunrisia of destroying the warplane in the international airspace and over international waters, having provoked another incident, which has resulted in the exchange of fire this time instead of a close-call as during past such incidents. An additional threat was hinted at, as the Union's side suggested that they could fire at Sunrisian warships next time or even launch a pre-emptive strike, while also offering yet another complaint about Sunrisian military presence around the Island of Vesvai. Emissary for Adversary Exchanges (EAE) of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia Rétrî Síntâ said that the Department of Security of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia informed him of a different scenario and that the Sunrisian warship that fired at the Union jet, was located in the territorial waters of the Reunified State of Vesvai, an MDAA ally, and that the missile was fired at the jet after it flew into airspace over the territorial waters of Vesvai, simulteneusly violating the country's airspace and sea borders.

Vesvai Says The Shootdown Of The Union's Warplane Was Justified

Vesvai's Prime Minister Fila Nemo has addressed the shootdown of a Union warplane by the Sunrisian Navy over the ocean and stated that the move was justified. According to the head of government it is already pointless to try and prove that the version of events presented by the Union's propaganda is a falsified one just like it has been in past military incidents including recent border clashes. The Prime Minister said that the truth was as presented by the Sunrisians and said that the high command of the Vesvaite Revolutionary Army can confirm and support the version of events that was presented by their Sunrisian military colleagues. PM Fila Nemo said that the Union warplane was indeed shot down by a missile from a Sunrisian warship after that warplane invaded Vesvai's airspace and flew over the territorial waters of Vesvai. This statement was confirmed by the Ministry of the Vesvaite Revolutionary Army which gave a more detailed description of events presented directly by Vesvai's military commanders who in turn received it from their officers. In the meantime Vesvai's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said this incident can't be treated as a violation of the cease-fire agreement reached in New Kengara, West Zilveren Berg because offensive and unprovoked fire was not opened in this case.

Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser Calls Leaders Of Sunrisia, Vesvai And The Union Of Oblaren And Herbora, Following The Jet Shoot-Down

Image

Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser has taken the time out of the campaign for the non-bloc status referendum in West Zilveren Berg, in order to address the situation with yesterday's shoot-down of a jet of the Air Force of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora by a warship of the Sunrisian Naval Forces. Traditionally, when incidents, close-calls or direct clashes happened on and around the Island of Vesvai both sides blame each other, while claiming their innocence and give contradicting stories on the situation. Instead of making a statement calling for de-escalation or having the Department of Foreign Affairs make a statement, Chief Secretary Visser has instead decided to have phone calls with the leaders of the Nationalist Republic of Sunrisia, the Reunified State of Vesvai and the Union of Oblaren and Herbora directly ask them for de-escalation and requesting to uphold the New Kengara cease-fire agreement.

MDAA Holds Joint Military Exercise In Vesvai

Image

Image

MDAA has begun a joint military exercise in Vesvai, the first of its' kind since Vesvaite reunification and taking place for the very first time in some parts of Vesvai in the entire history, seeing to how a large portion of modern-day Vesvai has been on the side of MDAA's adversaries under previous regimes. The militaries partaking in the drill are from all member states - Creperia, Edereon, Daredland, Sunrisia and, of course, the host country of Vesvai. The armed forces on the alliance are training to defend against foreign attack or invasion as a single team with armies, air forces and navies partaking in the training of defending the country on land, aerial and sea fronts. The military side was planned a while back, but Sunrisian military officials see it as a good thing that it is taking place soon after the recent border clash between Vesvai and Oblaren and Herbora, as well as the jet shoot-down, because it once again sends an even clearer message. Also, some troops from Creperia, Edereon, Daredland and Sunrisia will stay behind alongside Vesvaite troops for some time in order to train for the very first time in the new MDAA training center that recently opened in Vesvai.

Union Of Oblaren And Herbora Holds Impromptu Military Drills

Image

Ministry of Defense of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora has announced impromptu military drills by the Armed Forces of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora. The drills are being held specifically in Herbora's part of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora. The impromptu drills have been launched in response to the alarming large and unprecedented MDAA military exercise in Vesvai right across the border where all militaries of all MDAA members are participating. The drill by MDAA is being held when the dust has practically not yet settled from the recent border skirmishes on the border between the Union of Oblaren and Herbora and the Reunified State of Vesvai and the Sunrisian shootdown of a Union jet. To match the MDAA exercise the Union has likewise engaged its army, air force and navy to train for defense of its territory on land, air and sea fronts. But on another note the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora said that it was at least good that the Sunrisians have signed the cease-fire agreement signed earlier by Fortwel and Perloveu although the Union government doubts how much is the Sunrisian signature worth.

Daredland holds a ceremony on opening an MDAA training center, a second such facility

Image

Confederal Chancellor Lasse Cerido, President of the Daredi Confederation Albert Vogt, Confederal Minister of Defense and Protection of the Daredi Confederation Carlos Neumann and Confederal Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Daredi Confederation Jaime Schmidt have hosted a ceremony today of opening an MDAA training center in Daredland. This is the first and so far only military facility of MDAA on Daredi territory and overall a second training center of the MDAA alliance. The opening ceremony is happening simultaneously to the MDAA joint drill in Vesvai where Daredi troops are also partaking. And speaking of Vesvai earlier the first training center was opened in Vesvai and a similar opening ceremony was held there with representatives of MDAA members attending. On Daredi behalf Confederal Chancellor Lasse Cerido, Confederal Minister of Defense and Protection of the Daredi Confederation Carlos Neumann and Confederal Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Daredi Confederation Jaime Schmidt attended that ceremony in Vesvai. Like in the ceremony in Vesvai the ceremony in Daredland saw attendance of representatives of MDAA members: Creperia, Edereon, Vesvai and Sunrisia. But also in difference to the ceremony in Vesvai the Daredi government invited representatives from West Zilveren Berg to also participate because West Zilveren Berg is now a special military ally that shares a joint brigade with Daredland and has recently cancelled its neutrality and non-bloc status.

Citizens Vote In A Referendum On Non-Bloc Status Of West Zilveren Berg

Image

Today, the citizens of West Zilveren Berg are voting in what could be considered a historic referendum. The country's citizens will decide whether West Zilveren Berg should resume the current status quo of being a non-bloc country or remove the non-bloc status, so that the country have the liberty to pursue a foreign policy of allying itself with other countries or blocs. West Zilveren Berg could never fully call itself a neutral country even with the status quo, because the country has a non-combat military alliance with Sunrisia, which West Zilveren Berg has had since the country's foundation. Under the bilateral Security Treaty, Sunrisia guarantees military protection of West Zilveren Berg, while in exchange West Zilveren Berg assists Sunrisia in non-combat military operations. West Zilveren Berg's troops have participated in peacekeeping missions overseas, but never in combat, as the armed forces are only for national defense. In other areas, West Zilveren Berg has developed a vital trade and economic relationship with SOWEFTA and cooperated with MDAA, while also becoming a founding member of the Council of 3 with Daredland and Vesvai. Nevertheless, West Zilveren Berg has used its' non-bloc status to be a negotiations arena and peace broker in international conflicts anc the country has already mediated or helped bring to an end several world conflicts over its' short period of statehood, not to mention hosting a whole bunch of peace summits, including between parties that do not speak with each other directly. However, West Zilveren Berg has stepped out of its' non-bloc status by having recently created a joint military brigade with Daredand, which was criticized by the opposition as a violation of the country's non-bloc status and "non-belligerency", since it was stated that West Zilveren Berg would only make exceptions towards Sunrisia, when it came to a military relationship, but no more. The creation of this brigade and a debate to expand relationships with MDAA, SOWEFTA, the Corentian bloc overall and not to be limited by the non-bloc status, has brought about the government's initiative to move away from a non-bloc status with today's referendum, something which the opposition has opposed. The government has campaigned for citizens to vote in favor of removing the non-bloc status, while the opposition has broken in two - vote against or boycott the referendum all-together, in order to deny it legitimacy and give it a low turnout.

Vesvai's And Union's Heads Of Border Service Share Rare Phone Call

Separate military drills are ongoing on both sides of the border separating the Island of Vesvai. The first large joint MDAA drill is ongoing in Vesvai involving all members while the Union is having its own separate joint drills which it says is a reaction to the MDAA exercise. Both rival drills on the two separate sides of the border are ongoing and even though the cease-fire agreement continues to hold it is seen as a risky environment on the tense border. A risk of new military engagements is not ruled out either on purpose or by accident. Under this situation the Heads of Border Service of Vesvai and the Union of Oblaren and Herbora have exchanged a rare phone call discussing security on the mutual border. This is happening in parallel to the outgoing Vesvai's government and the newly forming post-elections government creating plans for the mutual border and how it would be managed: Will it be another normal international border with regular crossing on both sides or another militarized frontline like during the days of Vesvai's partition? At least in Vesvai there are loud voices supporting either of both these options and arguing over it. Which position will dominate in the current government and especially the newly forming one is still difficult to answer.

Referendum Passes: 52.5% Support Removing Non-Bloc Status Of West Zilveren Berg

Image

The referendum on the non-bloc status of the State of West Zilveren Berg is over and the results are in. 52.5% have supported removing the non-bloc status from the country's Basic Law, the equivalent of a constitution, while 47.5% have supported keeping the status quo. As we see, the issue has been polarizing in the final result and has nearly split the citizens down the middle, but in the end, more than half, in this case the majority, has voted in favor of change. The turnout has likewise been more than half, which make the referendum legitimate and given that it has not been a consultative one, the government will be required to abide by it. Given that the governing majority campaigned in favor of the referendum itself and for the choice to remove the non-bloc status, while most of the opposition supported retaining the status quo and a minority within the opposition supported boycotting the referendum all-together, there is little doubt that the current governing coalition will initiate to realize the referendum's results.

Union's And Vesvai's Border Guard Heads Hold Phone Dialogue

The Armed Forces of the Union of Oblaren and Herbora are resuming impromptu military drills at the border while joint MDAA drills are taking place in Vesvai right across the border. The Ministry of Defense said that these drills will take place as long as the MDAA drills in Vesvai: no shorter nor longer. As both nations are holding what could essentially be considered competing drills the Heads of Border Service of both nations have called each in a rare phone conversation to discuss the security situation on the common border from each side during and after the drills are over.

Opposition Protests Against The Referendum Results

LIVE BROADCAST

Image

Opposition parties have gone out into the streets of West Zilveren Berg and have called on their supporters to join them. The escalating demonstrations are being held in protest of the referendum result. The opposition calls on the referendum's outcome to be disregarded and that West Zilveren Berg should retain the status-quo of being a non-bloc state. Other opposition parties are stating that there could have been falsifications of the result, while the opposition parties that called for a boycott of the referendum, say that they refuse to recognize the referendum's legitimacy and thus refuse to accept that the country's non-bloc status could remove based on that vote. Although a lot of these opposition parties are not only opponents of the government, but opponents to each other, and have had different approaches regarding the strategy towards the referendum, this time the opposition parties are uniting into a temporary truce and alliance in forming a quasi-coalition to protest the referendum and its' outcome and stand up against the government.

National Defense Consultant (NDC) Suâv Ambústên Visits Vesvai

National Defense Consultant (NDC) Suâv Ambústên is making an official visit to the Reunified State of Vesvai, which is the first since the country's reunification. Previously, the National Defense Consultant visited the separate countries of New Vesvai and the Sovereign State of Vesvai prior to their merger. The current visit by National Defense Consultant Ambústên coincides with the continuing joint MDAA military exercise in Vesvai, which is the first of its' kind since the country's merger, which automatically made it a bloc's member, since New Vesvai was an MDAA member state. National Defense Consultant (NDC) Suâv Ambústên will meet with Prime Minister Fila Nemo of Vesvai, officials of the Cabinet of Ministers, Members of Parliament and also members of the winning parties from the snap general election of Vesvai, who are in the process of forming a new government right now. Additionally, the National Defense Consultant will visit the military personnel of the Rapid Reaction Units (RRU) of the Sunrisian Defense Force (SDF) temporarily stationed in Vesvai after the breakout of border skirmishes with Oblaren and Herbora, as well as observe some of the ongoing joint military exercise by MDAA, where Sunrisian troops are likewise participating.

Pro-Government Demonstrations Held To Support The Referendum Results

Image

As opposition parties have jointly organized protests against the results of the West Zilveren Berg Non-Bloc Status Referendum, where the majority voted to remove the non-bloc status, NGOs in West Zilveren Berg have countered that by organizing what could be described as pro-government demonstrations, although they are more aimed at voicing support for the outcome of a democratic referendum and not to favor the government. NGOs organizing these demonstrations have accused the opposition parties of "attacking democracy" and trying to "overturn the result of a democratic, free, fair and open plebiscite." NGOs are encouraging citizens to join the demonstrations in order to "prove that the majority has indeed voted the way they have voted and to negate any attempts of hinting at a conspiracy to falsify the referendum results in favor of the government-supported position."

Vesvai Welcomes Sunrisian National Defense Consultant (NDC) Suâv Ambústên

Vesvai is having a special guest visiting: Sunrisian National Defense Consultant (NDC) Suâv Ambústên. This important Sunrisian official visited Vesvai before but this is the first visit since Vesvai reunified into a single nation. Previously the Sunrisian visits have been to the separate states of New Vesvai and the Sovereign State of Vesvai. Because New Vesvai was a long-time ally Sunrisian officials had made frequent visits there while the Sovereign State of Vesvai specifically received Sunrisian National Defense Consultant (NDC) Suâv Ambústên only for the brief period between the Crimson Revolution/Civil War and Reunification. This visit is at an important moment just after the recent border skirmishes with the Union of Oblaren and Herbora and also during the current joint MDAA military drills while the Union is having its own drills on the other side of the border.

Opposition Complains About Being Ignored By The Government

Leaders of opposition parties leading protests against the results of the recent referendum, are complaining that the government is ignoring. The opposition is pointing fingers at the fact that neither Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser nor any of West Zilveren Berg's government officials have taken the time to address, not to mention talk with protesters and the political leaders of opposition parties. Some have even been pushing new conspiracy theories alongside the one about the falsification of referendum results by suggesting that the counter-protests organized and led by NGOs in support of referendum results have been sponsored by the government.

Confederal Supreme Court rules that Daredland must recognize LGBT marriages performed abroad

Image

The Confederal Supreme Court of the Daredi Confederation has made a second ruling on LGBT rights very recently after the first ruling. The original ruling on LGBT rights coincided with the first Pride March in Daredland which took place in Freihat. The ruling was vague and primarily stated that Daredland must advance its LGBT rights. The new ruling is more specific and has stated that Daredland must recognize same-sex marriahes that were performed in other jurisdictions. In other words if a Daredi citizen married a person of same-sex in a nation where its legal then that marriage should be valid in Daredland. Also if LGBT people who married abroad where same-sex marriage is legal, relocate to Daredland then their marriage must be recognized on the Confederation's territory.

Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser Accuses The Opposition Of Not Respecting Democracy

Responding to the accusations towards the government of ignoring the opposition, Chief Secretary Gerrit Visser has aligned with the position expressed by the counter-protests, which have been organized by NGOs in West Zilveren Berg, and stated that the opposition parties behave like they are not respecting democracy, as the referendum was free, far and with a clear result. According to the Chief Secretary, it seems like opposition parties are trying to overturn a democratic vote's result, because they do not like the outcome. In addition, the head of government dismissed conspiracy stories about the falsification of referendum results and suggestions that the NGO-organized counter-protests in support of the referendum results, have been organized or sponsored by the government of West Zilveren Berg.

Prime Minister Vyacheslav Koch says it is too early to talk about a possible presidential run

JUGAC, BAGGNAGIA – Prime Minister Vyacheslav Koch has once again addressed the topic of his potential presidential run after being asked about it during the recent conversation with the press:

I can never say a specific yes or no but I think it is too early to talk about something like this. President Stanislav Smoler is still having his second term continue and I am very honored to be serving as Prime Minister appointed by our president. I think the head of state is very effective at what he does. I have been lucky to be appointed as head of government twice in a row during the president's first term and now during the second term. Both times I had no hesitation in accepting the position. I am thankful to the president personally for having the privillege to lead our government. And no matter what happens I will forever carry the historical privilege of being the first Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Baggnagia since our nation's reunification during a very difficult and tense North-South division and other conflicts that follow. I am honored regardless.
