Postby Estado Novo Portugues » Tue Dec 24, 2019 1:32 am

Most of the following stuff should be common sense and basic courtesy. Ignore at your own risk!

1) You may only play characters that belong to you. Controlling somebody else's character is not allowed.

2) Absolutely no attacking other characters or damaging property unless you have permission from the owner. Even if all parties consent to a fight, I still reserve the right to swiftly put an end to the disturbance.

3) Please keep your writing family-friendly. Occasional profanity is fine, but let's not get into drunken sailor territory.

4) All characters must be created by yourself.

5) When introducing your character for the first time or when changing locations, please state the character's name and setting.

6) These are the general policies. Specific policies for this RP are contained in the "About This RP" and "Character Requirements" sections.

7) The password to enter this RP is "My boy, we're pilgrims in an unholy land." Put this anywhere in your application.

XXIII Decembris, anno Domini MMXIX

Brothers and sisters,

As we near the next anniversary of our Lord's birth, we, the faithful people and government of the Holy Catholic State, cordially extend to you our invitation to attend the Christmas Fair in Lisbon's Expo Park.

Christmas is a very special time of year, when we all put aside our differences and come together in joyous celebration. And now, people of all nations will be able to partake in the holiday spirit. From Christmas Eve to Epiphany Day, those traveling to Lisbon for the purpose of the Fair are exempted from usual visa requirements. In addition, religious laws will not apply for the duration of festivities.

At the Christmas Fair, you will have the opportunity to experience authentic Portuguese culture and watch energetic musical performances by military bands. Guests will also have the opportunity to represent their own nations at the Fair as vendors or performers. We are excited to see you here!

Merry Christmas and happy New Year,

Afonso Salazar
Civil Director of Portugal

Henrique Carvalho
Minister of External Relations

Plácido Fernandes
Minister of Religion and Culture

About This RP

This is my first foray into hosting an international event. Some background info: in my universe, Portugal has long been seen as a religious, fascist backwater. So the government got the idea to do a Christmas Fair where everyone's invited, to show the world that they're harmless.

The setting of this RP is Lisbon's Parque das Nações district, also known as the Expo-Park, which was formerly the grounds of the 1998 World Exposition. It has, among other places, an arena, shopping center, aquarium, science museum and hotel (I'll have a map up soon). However, to keep the interactions manageable, only the hotel, arena and outdoor spaces can be accessed in this RP at first. If that's easy enough, I might expand the playable locations.

The timeline of the Fair is Christmas Eve (December 24) to Epiphany Day (January 6). Realistically, most people are quite busy IRL during Christmas, myself included. So the IC date will likely trail behind the OOC date. That's why the IC date is the only one that matters for this RP. Before I advance the date, I'll announce in the OOC thread so that you can finish up your conversations.

This is what I have in mind for the events (in no particular order):
  • Opening and closing ceremonies
  • Military parade and air show
  • Musical concerts by Portuguese and guest performers
  • Outdoor market with goods from Portuguese and guest vendors, as well as an auction
  • Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve
If you have any other ideas, please let me know in this thread. Another thing: the schedule doesn't have to be linear. Some of these like the market can be an all-day recurring thing, while others can be one-off.

The tech level for this RP is Modern Tech (MT). Prior RP experience is welcome but not required.

Locations

(North is on the right)
Image

1) Expo Square—a large outdoor open space to the north of the convention center. All characters start in the Expo Square, but may freely move between any locations on this list. On the first evening, the lighting of the Christmas tree will take place here.

2) Pavilion of the Atlantic—a multipurpose indoor stadium capable of seating 20,000. The opening ceremony and all musical performances will take place here.

3) Convention Center—has four indoor exhibition halls. This is where vendors will set up their stalls and sell their goods.

4) Hotel Salazar—an upscale high-rise accommodation overlooking the Tejo River. All rooms have a double bed (or 2 twin beds), climate control, TV, mini-bar, bath, shower and coffee maker. This is where your characters will be staying while in Lisbon.

Character Requirements

1) There are three types of guests: Visitors (just going to the Fair, not selling or performing anything), Vendors (selling food or goods) and Performers (providing entertainment). A single character cannot be more than one type. If you're sending a band, you only need one app for the whole group.

2) This event is intended for regular folks, not VIP's (heads of state, government officials, royalty, etc). They're welcome to attend, of course, but they won't be given any diplomatic immunity since they're here as tourists.

3) 16 is the minimum age to attend without a parent or chaperone, as well as the legal drinking age.

4) Alcohol may be consumed in public, but intoxicated persons will be removed by the authorities. Smoking is only permitted in outdoor areas. Narcotic drugs of any kind are prohibited, and sniffer dogs may be used to screen for contraband.

5) You can bring bodyguards, but they can't have any weapons. The Holy Catholic State strictly prohibits the possession of any firearm: real or imitation, functional or inoperative. It's not like you'll need them anyway—you can know for a fact that police and security will be everywhere.

6) There is no dress code for this event. However, clothing must meet a minimum standard of modesty (breasts and "private parts" covered up) for both men and women. In addition, symbols of communism/socialism (red star, hammer-and-sickle, etc) are prohibited.

7) Absolutely no supernatural, superhuman or reality-defying powers, whether from the character's own body or a carried device. This is a strictly human and modern-tech RP.

Song Requirements (Performers Only)

1) Lyrics must be family-friendly. No references to:
  • profane language
  • violence
  • recreational drug use
  • sex or sexual organs
  • illegal or anti-social activities
2) Lyrics must not be offensive to Catholic religious beliefs and feelings.

3) No songs of a communist, socialist, anarchist or revolutionary nature.

Good morning, ENP,
I am thinking about joining with some of my characters, though I am mostly concerned about one thing: My people are pagans of various descriptions. Would that be alright with both you, OOC-wise, and with your nation, IC-wise?

Merry Christmas!
Selks
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

So I guess an ensemble in the same vein as the Red Army Choir is out of the question?

Won't be a problem at all—at least for these two weeks. If they showed up here at any other time of year, then the authorities would very well be not-so-friendly. But at Christmas time, everybody's an amigo.

Welcome aboard!

They can still come play, just not communist songs.

The uniforms would probably have communist imagery though, but it would be limited to cap badges and maybe any medals that the members are wearing.

I have no problem with that OOC, but those symbols (hammer and sickle, red star) are illegal in my IC nation's laws specifically because Salazar hates communism. Sorry.

Fair enough, but would he allow citizens of a communist nation in?

And then there's always the fallback option for outfits: Suits and tuxedos.

Yes, but only because it's Christmas.

Nah, you're good.

Two things though:
1) You can bring government officials, but they won't have diplomatic immunity at this event.
2) Ave Maria is already taken. It will be performed by the Portuguese Youth.

My canon is currently in a state of constant flux. Please do not take anything that I say as set in stone.
A 13 civilization, according to this index.

A traumatized MT-PMT constitutional monarchy consisting of a personal union of Prussia and Poland. A land of rampant gun ownership, Cold-war equipment, rabid hatred of Germans(or, if you're naval infantry, Japanese), militias with enough artillery to turn an armored division into a badly-shaken battalion of light infantry, and terrified American troops counting down the days until they rotate back home.

Date and time will be December 24, 2019 in the afternoon, when everybody will have just arrived. No problem - health is more important then RP. Hope you are feeling better?
Short question, though, my people have traditional garnments, the Geansai. That garnment incorporates fur of formerly living animals. Would it be allowed, by the IC-laws of Portugal, for my three people to wear it? Both because of the fur and because of it saving up on the cloth in general?

Yes, they can wear their Geansai. Fur is legal unless it is from an endangered species (tiger, jaguar, cheetah, etc). And revealing clothes are fine as long as they cover the breasts and private parts. But the temperatures in Lisbon are quite chilly this time of year (15° max) so long sleeves and pants are recommended.

Probably fine, but a few things to be aware of:
1) There is no diplomatic immunity for this event. Heads of state, royalty, celebrities, etc are welcome to attend, but they will not get any special treatment.
2) Bodyguards are allowed, but they cannot be armed. However, security will be everywhere so you shouldn't need to bring your own.
3) Communist/socialist symbols (hammer and sickle, red star or similar) are not allowed.

Look forward to your app!

Character bio (optional): Juliana and Olívia are boarding students at the Cerejeira Institute for Noble Maidens, a state-run "finishing school" that teaches traditional etiquette and hospitality. As such, they're impeccably graceful and well-mannered in social interactions, but are quite lacking when it comes to academics. They've also never seen a boy their whole lives. For the week of Christmas, they've been given permission to leave school during the day, but they must be back before curfew at 18:00.
