Note: The official design for the 49th World Hit Festival will be revealed before the opening of the IC Thread. More information regarding the design will be revealed at later date.

DRAFT THREAD - IC THREAD

Welcome to Britonisea & Estogium!

For the sixth time since their debut at the 14th World Hit Festival, Britonisea will be hosting the World Hit Festival and this time, they will be hosting the Festival alongside 2nd placing nation; Estogium. Britonisea won the 48th World Hit Festival with 34 points with the song, "Let Yourself Free" by Gigi Vadeboncoeur who was also responsible for the writing of the Estogian entry also. RVC and BVC will be working together to deliver what will be a great opportunity to showcase ABEN talent to the World on such a spectacular platform such as the World Hit Festival.

With this being the penultimate Senior World Hit Festival that will have a Britonish Overseer, we would like to use this World Hit Festival as a stepping stone towards the 50th World Hit Festival which we would like to be a good one - plans for the upcoming 50th World Hit Festival are already happening but we must find our host. Britonisea, like any nation, will be fighting for the right to host the semi-centennial World Hit Festival event and we hope all nations participating will come all guns blazing. The Britonish and Estogians are most certainly ready for the fight - are you?

Good luck everyone, I can't wait to see you all in the Halvenhavlve Arena on the 11th January 2020 - 20:00 GMT.

Fabio McAlpine
World Hit Festival Overseer

What is the World Hit Festival?
The World Hit Festival (WHF) is a multiversal song competition. Each nation shall enter 1 song and 1 artist, and it shall be 'performed' via roleplay. Most nations tend to use a real-life tune as a musical backing, but every entry submitted to the World Hit Festival is required to have original lyrics (ie. if you submit a tune, you must re-write the lyrics), so this does mean that instrumental entries are blocked from entering the contest.

WHF operates with three threads, the OOC, Draft, and IC threads. The one you are seeing now is the OOC/Sign-ups thread, the main place for you to discuss the contest, reveal your entrant, etc. All OOC chatter goes here. The Draft Thread, opened by the host, is the second thread opened up during a WHF contest, and this draft thread is where nations will post and work on their entries until a deadline determined by the host. The IC thread, also opened by the host is the third and final thread attached to a WHF, and it is where the host will transfer your entries.

The World Hit Festival has had a very long history in NationStates, and a thread by the second overseer (Euskirribakondara) has been created to compile this long history. Click here for a thread with links to every OOC and IC thread of all World Hit Festivals so far. Click this for a statistical database of all WHF participants. For winners, click here to see a full list of all WHF winners with links to their entries.

For WHF veterans, this sign-up form will look very familiar as it is the same sign-up form for the past 15 editions. However, for debutantes, I have provided a sample application using WHF32's winning entry in a spoiler, with explanations in brackets.

Nation: Euskirribakondara (name of your nation goes here)
Broadcaster: EUSK1 (name of your broadcaster goes here, and this is usually your national broadcaster that would broadcast the WHF. For a real life comparison, think of the BBC in the UK.)

Song Title: "По, Дај Ми Любавте" (name of your song)
Artist: Nadija Djokanović (the name of the artist that will 'perform' the song in your roleplay.)
Language(s): Sirbadian, Euskal, Hinga (the language(s) that your lyrics will be performed in)
Title Transcription (if required): "Po, Daj Mi Ljubavte" (if your song's language utilizes another script such as Cyrillic, you would put the romanization of that title here. In this example, По, Дај Ми Любавте is Po, Daj Mi Ljubavte. Otherwise, this part can be omitted.)
Title Translation (if required): Come On, Give Me Your Love (the translation of your song's title to English. If your song is in English already, this part can also be omitted.)
Tune: Here (most WHF tunes will have tunes attached to them, such as this entry using Poli Genova's If Love Was a Crime. If you are using a tune, do provide a link of the tune in this form. However, there are cases in which users do not submit a tune and use self-penned songs, in which case, filling out this part is not required.)

Your Trigramme: You three letter national code that will be used during the broadcast of the 47th World Hit Festival. In case of a dispute, nations registered on the NS list of trigrammes will take priority before a "first come, first serve" rule.

Head of Delegation: (The Head of Delegation is the person who is in charge of your delegation at the 49th World Hit Festival. If you have already provided information about this, you do not have to fill this part of the form out)

Rules and Procedures
Contest
  1. A nation is allowed to submit 2 puppets maximum to the contest, meaning that a user can be controlling at most 3 nations in the contest.
  2. Nations must send a full ranking of all nations on the IC Thread to the host of the competition when the voting opens.
  3. The nation ranked first will receive 5 points, the nation ranked second will receive 4 points etc. Nations ranked 6th or below will not receive any points.
  4. Users are allowed to receive 8 points maximum from their puppets. Meaning, a user with three nations can use Nation B and C (with B and C giving 4 points each) to give Nation A 8 points total, but nothing more.
  5. If there is a draw the countback system goes as follows: Amount of nations - 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 - First To Send Full Votes To Host.
  6. A nation is also expected to vote, but there is no penalty for not voting. The host will make up your votes in the event that they do not have your votes. Nations are expected not to reveal whether they have voted or not. Only the Host (and the Overseer if needs be) should know who has voted and who hasn't.
  7. All or at least most of the written lyrics must be original. Should any user spot any concerns, don't hesitate to let the overseer or current host know.
  8. In order for Semi Finals to be initiated, there must be enough nations for there to be 14 nations per Semi Final. The number of participants before Semi Finals are initiated will be dependent on circumstances.
  9. In the event of there being 35 or more complete entries, the top 5 from last edition (including the host) will qualify automatically to the Grand Final.
Hosting
  1. The winner of the competition will automatically be given the right to host the competition. The winner will have 72 hours (maximum) to announce their interest in hosting the Festival to the Overseer.
  2. The host must not reveal their acceptance of hosting until the Overseer has announced it on the WHF Network.
  3. If within the first 72 hours, the host either doesn't announce their interest in hosting the proceeding contest or declines hosting rights, the nation who came 2nd will be asked. If declined five times, the World Hit Overseer has to host the World Hit Festival.
  4. If the host abandons their host duties, the World Hit Overseer will be responsible for what left needs to be done.
  5. We would like to ensure all World Hit Festival hosts can host the competition to the best of their ability. If you have any concerns about hosting if given the opportunity to, don't hesitate to speak to the World Hit Overseer.

The WHF48 Throwback

NOTE: Will be updated when the Draft Thread Opens. The nation breakdown for the 48th world Hit Festival will go here - including special information and statistics that we found interesting during the World Hit Festival in St Christopher.

The 50th World Hit Festival

The 50th World Hit Festival is coming very quickly and by the 19th January 2020, the thread for the 50th World Hit Festival will be up. The Winner of the 49th World Hit Festival will host the 50th World Hit Festival unless they decline hosting where the 2nd place nation will then be asked and so on until the 5th nation. The 50th World Hit Festival will be Britonisea's last World Hit Festival (unless he gets accidentally re-elected) and therefore as a leaving present, Britonisea would like to host World Hit Festival's largest ever Festival similar to that of the 40th World Hit Festival nine editions ago. The rule regarding top 5 qualifying to the Grand Final if there are Semi Finals has been changed this edition in preparation for the 50th World Hit Festival which gives users a chance to know the rule. Therefore, if we reach 35 nations, there will be two semi-finals of 15 each and 5 automatic qualifiers based on the result of THIS CONTEST. Therefore, if you want to throw your hat in the ring and make sure you show up at the Grand Final of World Hit Festival 50 (if there are Semi Finals are we have 35+ entries), you better get signing up to the 49th World Hit Festival and do your best! ICly, two of the World Hit Festival automatic qualifiers will perform in one Semi and the other three will perform in the other - like at the Eurovision Song Contest. I am really pushing for an amazing 50th World Hit Festival and would like to have an awesome, ambitious, co-operative host, so get those entries for the 49th World Hit Festival ready and wow the world and steal the crown!

The 7th Junior World Hit Festival

The 7th Junior World Hit Festival will be the last World Hit Festival (of any kind) that will be overseen by Britonisea. The newly elected World Hit Festival Overseer will help with the running of the 7th Junior World Hit Festival while the 50th World Hit Festival reaches its peak (voting period). The 7th Junior World Hit Festival may seem a bit premature, but technically, we are getting the Junior World Hit Festivals back on track of hosting them at the end of each edition ending on "0" or "5" after a late Junior World Hit Festival over the past few editions. As last time, there will be a bidding process that will open on the 13th January 2020 and we will be looking to use the same voting format as the 6th Junior World Hit Festival. Statistically, the new format is very successful but it would be good to see it in full operation before I leave the Overseer chair. If you'd like to host the 7th Junior World Hit Festival, start to get your bid ready for it. The OOC thread for the 7th Junior World Hit Festival, however, will not be open until 23 February with the IC Thread going up a month later - so if you're not busy around March, this is a great opportunity for hosting experience.

The 5th Overseer Elections!

The fifth Overseer elections are coming and during the opening of the 50th World Hit Festival, you will have two weeks to submit your interest to become the next World Hit Festival Overseer. You will have between the 19th January to the 2nd February 2020 to submit your interest before the closed invitations will happen. The Overseer elections will be eligible for anyone who has participated at least during the Overseer of Britonisea's leadership (participated at least once between WHF41 and WHF49). If you have not already participated once between WHF41 and WHF48, now is your chance to be allowed to enter! The Overseer elections is based on user and therefore any hopefuls should prepare a bid using their MAIN nation. More information of how to send a manifesto will come at the opening of the 50th World Hit Festival thread. Come up with ideas and run them by Britonisea if you'd like the help.

And with that being said, I think we ought to have a closer look at who will host the 49th World Hit Festival shall we?

THE 49TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL
Alshkan, Britonisea & Estogium

It's almost as if the lot of you haven't yet had enough of Britonisea! Well, for the sixth time ever, I take the time to say "Welcome to Britonisea!" But this time with a twist that will be explained in more detail in just a bit. Firstly, BVC were given the chance to host their sixth World Hit Festival after Britonisea won the World Hit Festival for the fifth time in their history (26th, 37th, 42nd, 46th and 48th World Hit Festivals won) with the song "Let Yourself Free" by Gigi Vadeboncoeur - scooping up 34 points (48.5% of available points), making it Britonisea's most successful winning entry. Rather interestingly, Gigi Vadeboncoeur was responsible for not only the winning entry by Britonisea but she was also behind the 2nd placing entry from Estogium. Britonisea's and Estogium's top 2 finish marks the first time two ABEN nations have not only finished in the top 3 together at World Hit Festival but the top 2 at any song contest (World Hit Festival and WorldVision Song Contest), which BVC thought was something worth celebrating. BVC thought that recently, Britonisea had been hosting the World Hit Festival quite a bit and thought that since Estogium hadn't hosted the World Hit Festival before (haven't won the World Hit Festival) but were rather close doing so, BVC contacted RVC to see whether the broadcaster would be interested hosting the first ever fully joint World Hit Festival in the arena both nation's share; Vhe Halvenhavlve Arena which is located in the city of Alshkan. Would you like to find out more about this complex city? Carry on having a read then!

THE 49TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL
About Alshkan!

Alshkan is the largest Brito-Estogian border communities which was large enough to be named as the only border city in the two nations. Alshkan is located north from Kyvivre, the city that hosted the recent 47th World Hit Festival in Britonisea. It will be a bit chilly, but it won't be as cold is when Burgendore hosted the 43rd World Hit Festival as we are nowhere near as north as Burgendore. Alshkan is approximately home to around 700,000 people with ⅔ of the people living in Alshkan living on the Britonish side of Alshkan but this doesn't mean the Estogian side is any less busier than the Britonish side. Alshkan has and will have experience hosting in the arena that we will introduce you to in just a second. Alshkan has hosted the second Semi-Final of Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2018 where 14,000 people packed into a downsized Halvenhavlve Arena for the two hour jam-packed show - it was where Taron Woods qualified to the Battle Stage before he went on to win the national final and then winning WorldVision 64. Alshkan is a lucky city for 2020 as it will host the Grand Final of the fifth Vha Mehlodhivestoile where over 20,000 Britonish and Estogian (and fans from abroad too) will watch who will be the fifth Vha Mehlodhivestoile winner.

THE 49TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL
About The Halvenhavlve Arena!

Image

Vhe Halvenhavlve Arena (~20,000), named after the fact that it lays right on the Britonish and Estogian Border with half of the arena located in Estogium and the other half being located in Britonisea. Built rather recently, opening at the turn of the new millennium, the Halvenhavlve Arena was a joint project between the Britonish and Estogian government who hold a 50% share in each side of the Arena. Since border controls between ABEN are fairly relaxed because of the Schengen-like zone in the Union, they thought that having an arena between the two nations would be a great way to show how music and entertainment is one of the ways that Estogium and Britonisea will always be bound together forever even if relations between the two nations were to ever break down - which they shouldn't. As explained above, Halvenhavlve will host the upcoming Grand Final of Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2020 which will welcome up to 20,000 through its doors and multiple nations being invited to vote and broadcast the live event which is expected to take upto three hours. BVC thought that the World Hit Festival would be absolutely to get Alshkan buzzing as the broadcaster brands Alshkan to place to be as we move into the new decade.

Not quite 20,000 but certainly not the capacity for at the 48th World Hit Festival will fit into the Halvenhavlve Arena for the 49th World Hit Festival. Organisers would like the Halvenhavlve Arena to welcome just 14.5k spectators through its doors because of the stage - with this World Hit Festival being in line with the 43rd World Hit Festival with it not being one of the largest World Hit Festival capacities that we have seen by still fairly modest. BVC and RVC have promised that The World Hit Festival 49 will be a fantastic and professional event, especially in the run up to the 50th World Hit Festival. Organisers are reaching out to nations reminding them that this may be the last time Britonisea (in particular) hosts during its overseership and reminds nations that the winner of the 49th World Hit Festival will go on to host the 50th World Hit Festival which, according to the Fabio McAlpine - the current Overseer - will be a huge and exciting event worth waiting for. The World Hit Festival under Britonisea's Overseership is ending and Britonisea with its close ally, Estogium, would like to show how good the last few World Hit Festivals have actually been.

THE 49TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL
About the WHF49 Stage!

https://youtu.be/II9bB31OSro (Niall Horan)
https://youtu.be/Qfm2RyHhJIE (Mabel)
https://youtu.be/WHQ0F2Aa7Oc (Dua Lipa)

This edition, there has been an emphasis on how expensive looking the stage will be. As you can see from the performances above, you'll be able to tell that the stage will be not be in the conventional way we are used to stages being (with the stage being at the top end of the arena). This edition, the stage will be along the side of the arena which means that while only 14.5k can fit in an arena that could fit upto 6k more, the stage will be huge and will be fit with loads of different effects that will make it look fantastic on television. An example of this is that along the top end of the stage there will be an LCD screen which will also be on the floor of the stage too, along the end of it which means that - similarly to the performances you can see in the link - you'll be able to realistically interact with a huge LCD stage floor. As you can see at 03:05 of Mabel's video, you can see the tens of birdie lights that will be fitted along the top and side of the stage's right hand side which will look otherworldly on television. There will be LCD screen strips along the sides of the seat stands as well which make the whole arena set alight. Finally, if you're lucky enough to get to stand near the stage - which you could argue is very catwalk-like, you can go on either side of the stage (in front of the main audience on the stands or in front of the back wall full of the birdie lights). You can see this at 02:25 of Mabel's video if you'd like to visualise it. In addition to this, the hologram package will be included as ever. If you'd like to use rain effects we can do that, but if you'd like to use actual water from the rigs, you will need to be placed nearer the LCD screen right at the left side of the arena. A diagram will be made in time for the Draft Thread to give you more of an idea of what everything will look like.

An odd stage but there's so many ways you can use it - conventional, unconventional? Whatever will win you the trophy and the chance to host the 50th anniversary of the World Hit Festival!

THE 49TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL
About the WHF49 hosts!

ImageImage

When thinking about hosts, we look back at the hosts we have had previously at the World Hit Festival and decide what angle we should do this edition. The first time Britonisea hosted the World Hit Festival, we had two female hosts. We then had a male (main) and a female for the second time we hosted in Junterapten. Two men hosted in Doportedas for the 38th World Hit Festival before Evangeline Host hosted with her bestie Elias Auvergne Lancey at the 43rd World Hit Festival. We've had three ladies presenting at the 47th World Hit Festival which means that for the 49th World Hit Festival, BVC and RVC will opt for two men hosting the competition with one man from Estogium and one from Britonisea.

The Estogian who will hosting the World Hit Festival in Alshkan will be Elias Nordin who represent Estogium at the 45th World Hit Festival where he came 4th place with 18 points which was - until now - Estogium's best result at the World Hit Festival. He will also be representing Estogium at the upcoming 78th WorldVision Song Contest. Good luck to him there. On the Britonish side, our very own Mehkl Maddox Ajax will be hosting the World Hit Festival 49 alongside Elias Nordin. Mehkl Maddox Ajax has represented Britonisea in the World Hit Festival before when Britonisea first hosted the competition back in '27. He then went on to host the 51st WorldVision Song Contest and participating at the 55th WorldVision Song Contest. Following the pattern, he's set to host a World Hit Festival, and this is the one he was approached to host and he gladly accepted it.

THE 49TH WORLD HIT FESTIVAL
The Other Details...

Britonisea will be opting for the Phase 1/Phase 2 system that the nation used at the 47th World Hit Festival (and 43rd, 35th World Hit Festivals) but no decision has been made on how much will be revealed during Phase 1 of the competition. Things may change so keep an eye on the OOC Thread as you may notice things will change.

No postcard information will be needed for the 49th World Hit Festival because simplicity will be the idea for the 49th World Hit Festival. Every nation will have a postcard and header but there will not be a separate postcard post like at the 35th and 47th World Hit Festivals. More information on this will be revealed at a later date.

Every nation will be asked to provide a spokesperson and dialogue when voting and a city from which they're calling from. This will be said on the voting post information when we get to that point of the festival.

Michael Turner will represent Britonisea!

Michael Turner to represent Britonisea at the 49th World Hit Festival with "Unguided"!

Image
Unguided: 31 year old Michievelihan, Michael Turner, will represent Britonisea in Alshkan this edition...

After the nation placed 7th at the 47th World Hit Festival in Kyvivre, Britonisea, Britonisea went back to basics and sent a song which could only be described as typically Britonish. Gigi Vadeboncoeur won with her song "Let Yourself Free" which saw Britonisea place 1st with 34 points with a higher percentage than Evangeline Hope, making the 48th World Hit Festival Britonisea's most successful World Hit Festival. The nation is set to host the upcoming 49th World Hit Festival alongside neighbour Estogium at the Halvenhavlve Arena in Alshkan where both Estogian and Britonish fans will be in the hordes cheering on all the participants in what had been described as the run-up to the 50th World Hit Festival.

Britonisea is hoping to win for the sixth time in Alshkan which may seem against the odds. At each of the previous Britonish hostings, the nation finished (in order of hostings) 9th, 5th, 2nd, 7th, 7th with the 7ths and 9th place being amongst Britonisea's worst placing entries. Despite this, BVC are confident of their entry this time around citing that like all nations participating in this upcoming World Hit Festival, they will be pushing hard for a sixth win and a seventh hosting for the 50th World Hit Festival.

The nation's World Hit Festival taste has changed drastically over the last few editions - especially since the nation took the leadership of the contest. The genre of the song which Britonisea will be sending is alternative rock which has been present in Britonisea's choices of song ever since the 38th World Hit Festival - ten editions ago. Before, the nation hadn't sent any songs which had any rock elements in them. Since The Retribution's 2nd place in Doportedas, another rock song was sent for the 45th World Hit Festival due to AUTUMN's 2nd place at Vha Mehlodhivestoile 2019. The nation placed 4th here. The 46th World Hit Festival saw the nation win with an orchestral-rock ballad by Vhe Qí who won the competition with 28 points. Taking a break for the 47th and 48th World Hit Festivals by sending female ballads, BVC thought that going back to the what BVC was turning Britonisea's World Hit Festival record into would be perfect going into Alshkan for the upcoming World Hit Festival.

Michael Turner's song "Unguided" will be available on most musical streaming platforms as of December 2nd 2019.
