St. Peadrus MacCallion High School Exchange Program (IC)

Postby Folaisia » Sat Sep 07, 2019 2:04 am

7:30 AM, Monday, August 26
St. Peadrus MacCallion High School

Image
Entrance towards the Campus Courtyard. Building behind is Nathaniel R. Grimmond Hall.

Radiant, mellow sunlight illuminates the blue sky as a flow of students arriving by car, walking or biking flooded the campus. Expressions from the young crowd vary from one point of arrival to another, ranging from happiness to a groaning exhaustion. Altogether, a new day for academia.

Oblivious to the crowd's splintering directions, Angus Ochiltree and Malcolm MacHaffie were discussing with each other about their summer vacations as they sauntered through the plaza. They have shared laughter and exchanged topics they both share in common with brotherly vibes, continuing to do so until their friends Elizabeth MacIntyre and Lachina Blair walked towards them. After hearing their greeting, their pair turned with welcoming smiles.

This sort of atmosphere persevered as every student headed toward their respective homerooms. After checking in with their teachers and their backpacks or shoulder bags were residing on the floor, they then were told to head to the shinty field. On this playing field, rows of white plastic chairs with a straight aisle providing a division, another group of white chairs arranged in a semicircle, bleachers and a large platform containing a large table encapsulated by a white cloth, a wooden podium and several more white chairs divided into two groups were organized.

Leaving home wasn't easy for this island girl, Kajla Vento. Her family, friends, life and everything else left behind in Mazomba in Kuronami. But hopefully this would be fun, new friends to make, people to meet, greet, new experiences she could take with her going beyond high school. It had been six months since the hurricane and recovery while coming along was still coming along slowly. It's not easy to just pick up the peaces after a major disaster like that one and a disaster it was! But it was the furthest thing from her mind now, her mind was focused on just getting to know her new school. She was peddling her way on to school, the early morning was no problem for her, she usually was up early to get the fresh fish from the wharf back home or jog along the beach as the sun rose, just plenty to do before her daily school. The school coming in sight she smiled ready to take it on. It would seem some welcoming event would occur outside on the playing fields and today was a good day for that.

Cecilia Hyun-ju Byeon grasped the strap of her shoulder bag, strolling with a straight face. Looking around, she eyed the passing students with looks that convey a sense of paranoia mixed in with nonchalance. Eventually, she began to neglect her surroundings more as she picked up the pace in her walk, as if escaping from something malevolent and invisible. Then, a bump.

"O jenjang," she exclaimed as she rocked back, "I'm sorry."

She then mutters to herself in her native language before looking back.

"Well," she clears herself and puts on her previous face again, "you don't seem to be around here. Who are you?"

Amy Laoch of the Tribe of Dundalk.
I took a deep breath as the school came in sight.
I was a a Bodmin-Girl, my school was the Roth High School. I wore their uniform with pride and that for my second year now - but, as the Gods usually had, they had other plans for me. My part-time employer, Bicíní Industries, proposed to me to go abroad for a year, me, the Sea-Weasel-owning, sworddancing hurricane and whirlwind that I was.
Well, my parents agreed and despite being initially skeptic, I was onboard now and was on my way to broaden my horizons.
Folaisia was a nice country, though. The morning was sunny, not too warm.
It was weird for me, for in my homelands, the school year started in Spring, not in Autumn. In autumn, we were getting ready for the last tests... yet, here I was. Breathing in the atmosphere of starting a new school year - abroad.
I was a blonde, red eyes and had my curves, where the curves belonged, muscles under my skin, though not bulging. Some people might recognize me, both from my work for Bicíní Industries and as an actress, I had played an important character in Flight on the Seven Wings. Nothing I bragged about, but I was aware of the possibility. My blonde hair was grown out again, but I had pinned it up and bound it back, a few strands framing my face.
Of course, I wore the school uniform, which reminded me a bit of home, but yet was vastly different. I would get used to it. The weight of my bag had not dimished, at least!
I smiled.
Well, the newer new school year could come, I thought as I passed the gates.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

The school came in sight, she found a place to dismount and lock up her bike. A good ride from the short trip from a home sponsor of hers she'd been staying with until the school term began. It was better than trying to dash from the airport the day of. Grabbing her things she began to make a bit of a dash for the ceremonies so she wouldn't be late and get a good seat. She honestly had no idea what time it was, her phone was tucked in her bag and honestly the ride along the way ended up getting her sidetrack often to see some unique sight. As she made her stride BOOM she bumped into someone, or someone bumped into her. This girl, maybe her age but a student no doubt.

"Oh it's no problem. It happens to the best of us." She dusted herself off, not too worse for the wear. "Nope, that I am not!" She said with enthusiasm "Name's Kajla! I'm from Kuronami. One of the exchanges here. Pleased to meet'cha."

“Kureaisu, in kurēsen, geffu itchi hāramu...” Kyasurin was singing a popular song from home to herself as she rode to school. Her stomach was in knots over how nervous she was. It helped to ride to school so she could admire the foreign beauty she was surrounded by and to feel the wind through her pulled back hair. She wondered if she’d make any new friends today.

These thoughts had her a bit pulled into head. Then all of a sudden her music stopped and her phone started ringing. It caught her off guard so she jumped a bit off her bike seat. She clicked a button on her earbuds and said, “Hello?”

Kya heard the cheery voice of her best friend, Burunie, respond, “Hey! How was your first day of school?”

“I’m actually on my way right now.”
“What?” Burunie sounded surprised.
“ We’re in different time zones, remember.”
Burunie responded with, “Oh yeah! I keep forgetting that. I actually just got out.”
“Very nice. I’m actually about to be there so I’m gonna have to let you go.” They said their goodbyes and hung up. Kya locked her bike up and went inside. She dropped her stuff in homeroom and made her way to the field.

Well, the newer new school year could come, I thought as I passed the gates.

Nicholas Bannerman and Iris Burnett-MacMillan, both next to each other gleaming in orange, short bob hair and long, black hair, respectively, were talking with their friends near the gate, when Nicholas caught sight of the Selkie exchange student passing by.

"Look at the bonnie lass over there," he indicated.

"Well, isnon1 she as pretty as a yellow iris on a gloomy day," Iris replied, "I've seen her on the telev3 before."

"You wanna go meet her?"

"Why not," Iris grinned.

Saying their farewell to their friends, Nicholas and Iris sauntered over to meet the new student they saw.

"Hey, lassie," greeted Iris, "it's nice to finally meet someone I've seen on the telev. I'm Iris."

"And I'm Nicholas, but you can call me Nick."

On the rows of white chairs, several students have taken their seats and are waiting for the others to arrive. One of them is Louisa Drummond, sitting alone and isolated from any apparent conversation. Compared to the radiant morning, her black short hair and dark green headband coupled with her dismal visage proved to bring about one gloomy night entirely above her.

In one instance, she glanced over and caught sight of Kyasurin, but not wanting to grab her attention, she willed herself to turn back to where she was staring at: the grass of the shinty field.

Kyasurin arrived at the shinty field and began to look for a seat. She glanced over and noticed a black haired girl with a gloomy expression. Kyasurin’s heart felt a bit bad for the girl so she decided to sit next to her. She sat quietly for a minute before putting on a smile and turning towards the girl with an outstretched hand. “Harō! My name is Kyasurin Gāsutoman.”

When she saw Kyasurin sit next to her, Louisa turned away with apprehension. Several times she glanced back at the girl when she was not doing the same thing towards her, and all of them resulted in her remaining silent alongside the morning ambience that was music to her ears. Even when she attempted to open her mouth, Louisa keeps fidgeting with her hands, albeit in a smooth pace and speed. About a minute later, she saw the girl offer her hand.

"Oh, uh," Louisa replied with reluctance, "Louisa Drummond. Nice to meet you."

She then offered her hand back in return, and shook it.

"So...where are you from," Louisa then asked with a softer tone.

Well, that was quick...
The two approached me, one a little flame and one a black-haired young man, who introduced themselves as Iris and Nicholas, or rather preferring to go by Nick. They seemed nice enough and cut right to the chase.
I bowed my head lightly in reply.
"Thank you, the pleasure is all mine.", I replied, "I am Amy. Now the question is... where did you see me on TV?"
Please don't say The Making-of the Archipelago Shooting - the one documentary, that might find a lot of purchase with their age group as it showed a huge amount of hot young women (including myself) in swimsuits and posing.

“Wow, Louisa!” Kyasurin said with slightly widened eyes. “I love how that sounds. So exotic.” She slightly died a little bit when she realized what she said. No duh it sounds exotic you idiot. Kyasurin thought. You’re literally in a foreign country! Every name is exotic to you.

Kyasurin quickly talked again hoping to distract from her slight embarrassment. “I’m from Toraserunō. Well I guess foreigners call it Trasselnau. We’re this series of islands that aren’t really that small. So what about you? Are you from here?”

Well hey, walk and talk with me let's go grab ourselves a seat for the opening ceremonies....Oh wait...Unless it's only for newbie students like me, in that case I suppose I'd take the seat. At least maybe help me find where I'm supposed to go?"

Iris scoffed. So did Nick.

"Flight on the Seven Wings, of course," Iris answered, "And might I say, you were bonnie1 well good in playing your character. Makes me feel like I'm actually seeing and talking to her in this world today."

"And also, that documentary about the Archipelago Shooting," Nick added, "You were bonnie there, as well. Not to mention, you work out so well in that swimsuit."

"Yeah, you can give Beitris Milligan a challenge for that matter," Iris replied, "And if you don't know who she is, she's a famous model that competed for this country in the Lady Sol pageant in 2017. She won the title."

"Um, yes," Louisa quickly nodded, "I live not far fae here...Just five blocks down."

She let out a sigh.

"And your country sounds interesting. Seems similar to another country that I don't know the name of just yet. Must be a luxurious feeling that your country's surrounded by the clean, blue sea, is it non2?"

"That's non true, actually," Cecilia replied immediately, "The opening ceremony is a Mass for all students and faculty, so that means we can sit wherever. In the meantime, why don't we drop off our backpacks in our homeroom, or homerooms, if that is the case?"

As she waited a bit for her answer, Cecilia let her eyes wander again at the crowd of students.

I smiled when Iris answered, that he knew me from Flight on the Seven Wings and that he felt as if he was talking to my role back then, the Selkie-Mercenary Aífe, in the services of the Ilkhan of Utica. I blushed and wanted to tell him to cut it out, when Nick mentioned the documentary.
Of course.
My smile remained, especially because of the compliments (although I had no idea as to who Beitris Milligan was or how she looked).
My blush only got more intense.
"Thank you.", I told them both and meant it. Not to mention, in my bag in the dorm rested three swimsuits, which I expected to put on over the coming year, if there was the chance for a trip to a nearby beach. "The Archipelago-Shooting is always fun, not only because of the beach-time or the clothes, but because we all at Bicíní are one big family, mostly due to Mhairin. It's always fun, despite the hard work."

St. Peadrus MacCallion High School, Grangemouth, Folaisia.
Amongst all the students passing the entrance gate of the St. Peadrus MacCallion High School, one would also spot two girls definitely not looking like locals - or from Northern countries in general for that matter. It was prudent to assume, that they were from roughly the same area, and their quick chat shortly before entering in their respective mother tongue suggested, that they came from Shamsiyya, or her sphere of influence.
But that, aside from being around the same age, was pretty much the only thing they had in common.
Tabitha Maraoui had been born and raised in the (back then) uncertain environment of the Sultanate of Kashira, her Father, a soldier of the RKA, already having arrived in the Realm of the Deads, and possibly even Aaru, many years ago, during a peacekeeping operation in the east of the Sultanate. Her mother, a nurse, had been of the Kashiri minority in Shamsiyya and had returned there after her husband's death. Tabitha had still lived in Junaira, while her older brother Hassan now had to protect the Shamsiyyan embassy back in Kandaka.
This background had played into her personal interests a lot - she had a unique talent at languages and was quite interested in history, culture, and literature as well; hence, her world consisted of letters - no matter, whether from the Shamsiyyan or the Latin alphabet.
The other girl running around with a passport from the Federal Republic of Shamsiyya was entirely different in all reagrds. Nermin Yassiri was would one back home would call a Fata Al'arqam, a Number Girl - and, aside from that, an 'IT nerd' and probably the next mad scientist one would hear of in some time. This was surely influenced by her own family background, for her parents ran a mining company and an IT company back home in Ninaoua.
Despite being polar opposites of one another, meeting a Shamsiyyan traveling to Folaisia was nothing one would see everyday. Thus, they continued babbling in their native tongue even when passing the gate.
Tabitha was the first one recognizing Amy Laoch of the Tribe of Dundalk, who was talking to other students now - but Nermin only needed a second longer. Granted, the reasons were different - as someone interested in history, Tabitha had, of course, watched Flight on the Seven Wings, the famous movie about Selkie-Mercenaries during the 1614 Civil War in Kyrenaia, serving the Ilkhan of Utica. Nermin was more likely to remember the documentary on the Archipelago-Shooting, and judging by the pieces of conversation so far, she was reasonably famous due to both in these parts.
They hesitated only for a second, for Amy shouldn't be overwhelmed by being approached by too many fans - on the other hand, they all would spend an entire year in St. Peadrus, so they the moment of introduction was pretty inevitable.
They went and approached Amy and the two local students (or looking local, at least), their minds and tongues switching from Shamsiyyan to English.
"Mornin'!" - Tabitha said, grinning. "Looks like you're never entirely unknown, no matter where you go, eh?" - she said to Amy, but also spoke into the entire round of - so far - three. "I'm Tabitha. Tabitha Maraoui. Nice to meet y'all!" She bowed her head lightly.
As did Nermin. "I'm Nermin Yassiri. It's a pleasure to me!"

Folaisia wrote:"That's non true, actually," Cecilia replied immediately, "The opening ceremony is a Mass for all students and faculty, so that means we can sit wherever. In the meantime, why don't we drop off our backpacks in our homeroom, or homerooms, if that is the case?"

As she waited a bit for her answer, Cecilia let her eyes wander again at the crowd of students.

"Ah perfect then! We'll grab ourselves some seats but yeah good idea let's drop our stuff off and we'll go on." she slung the bag over her shoulder letting her lead the way seeing as she didn't really know the campus yet.

Folaisia wrote:"Um, yes," Louisa quickly nodded, "I live not far fae here...Just five blocks down."

She let out a sigh.

"And your country sounds interesting. Seems similar to another country that I don't know the name of just yet. Must be a luxurious feeling that your country's surrounded by the clean, blue sea, is it non2?"

2. Non = "No" (Derived from French, included in Folaisian Scots)

“It really is. At least for me it is because I actually live in a city that farther inland so I really only see the ocean on vacations. Like last year a rally was held for my dad’s party down in a coastal city so of course my family went and we ended up having a really good time after the rally was over on the beach.” Kyasurin recalled. “Five blocks away sounds pretty close. I’m assuming you live with your family there?”

Iris and Nick nodded.

"Yeah, I really like it when a production crew gets along together," Iris replied, "By the way, what's Mhairin. And forgive me if I pronounced it wrong. I'm new to Gaelic, as you know."

As Iris and Amy began to converse with each other, Nick turned to see two new students from Shamsiyya come into their circle.

"'Ey, you two lassies," Nick sounded out, "We've got newcomers."

"Gued1 morning, you two," greeted Iris, "I'm Iris Burnett-MacMillan, and this is Nick Bannerman."

She then propelled herself in a little sprint, her short black hair flowing like curtains next to an open window as her shoes clacked. With anxiety lifting off her visage, she slows herself down, so as to let Kajla come into her peripheral vision.

"So, where's your homeroom," she then asked.

When Kyasurin asked her about her family, she squirmed, a chill reverberating up her skin, though enough to keep herself reserved.

"Yes," she enunciated, "With just my dad."

She stays silent for a moment.

"How about you? You live with your bonnie family as well?"

Amy Laoch of the Tribe of Dundalk.
"Mhairin Mamaí of the Tribe of Kildare is one of the office workers and secretaries at Bicíní and our designated Team Mam.", I told Iris with a smile, "She was the one, who narrated the documentary in both English and Selkie."
Mhairin was awesome and her little kid, Little Enya, was awesome, too. And Little Enya was cute as a button, you just wanted to hug her and never let her go!
Then, our conversation was joined by two other someones, who introduced themself as Nermin Yassiri and Tabitha Maraoui, Nick and Iris introducing themselves first, then it was my turn.
"And I'm Amy.", I added to them, bowing my head lightly in return, "The pleasure is entirely mine."

"I still prefer shipping over flying, in general" - Nermin added. "But with this distance, the school year would probably be over before we'd have arrived." She had to grin.

“Oh, I think I have a picture of them.” Kya got her phone out of her pocket and scrolled to a family picture of them on the beach. Kya and her mother were in similar patterned sun dresses with a light blue sweater while her father and Josshua were in matching suits. All of them were wearing red armbands indicative of Communist Party members. “This photo was actually taken at that rally I was telling you about.”

Nick and Iris chuckled to themselves about Nermin's recent reply.

"At least you've saved yourself an awfy lot of days to get here," Nick responded, facing Tabitha, "Although traveling by ship can give you one bonnie luxury of an experience, it would take you both longer."

"Unless, if you get yourself an early day of departure," Iris added.

"Yeah, of course."

"Anyways, welcome to St. Peadrus," Iris pronounced with glee sparking in her eyes, "Hope you enjoy your education here! So, what are you both studying?"

"Wow, you guys look bonnie, indeed," she replied, a smile forming on her face, "And nice dress you're wearing."

Louisa then took more time to gaze at every face in the photograph. She gives off a quiet sigh, as if relieved from stress.

Ma Haodong takes his bag to where he was supposed to be - someplace with a lot of white chairs, which he assumed were for the students. Not knowing what else to do or where else to go, he took a seat on a chair in the right side in one of the back rows. He takes out his phone and scrolls through Wechat, waiting for the assembly to start.
