Natanya confirms return!

NTV have today announced their intention to return to the Worldvision Song Contest once again for the 76th edition. There was some initial doubt surrounding whether this Natanyan comeback to the contest would follow on into future editions after a rather disappointing performance at the 75th contest in Monterra, Kalosia, but with NTV sticking to their oath to not only comeback to the contest more regularly, but to try and amp up Natanyan enthusiasm and effort for the contest, and hopefully improve results out of the usual mid-table sittings and more towards the higher end of the board. One factor that may have pushed NTV to continue with the contest may have been the recent, much more successful performance in the 47th World Hit Festival, where Natanya managed to achieve 4th, although in the initial speculation some thought this may have worked detrimentally, thinking NTV may abandon Worldvision for World Hit Festival, NTV have confirmed that this is not the case, and is not likely to happen in the near future.

With the confirmation of their return, NTV have also announced the song and artist which will represent Natanya, which they have internally selected. The artist representing Natanya at the 76th Worldvision Song Contest shall be singer and dancer Chŏnsul with his new single "Shards". Chŏnsul, whose real name is Aylward Kyung Nechayev, is a Natanyan pop and rock singer with an Axuvian background. His stage name, depending on the context, can be written in different ways and even in different scripts, for Worldvision, he will be credited as "Chŏnsul". While singing is his main focus, many of the songs he's been apart of include dance routines and has also ventured into some smaller acting roles. Chŏnsul has been quoted as being "extremely happy" to be representing Natanya at the contest, saying "Worldvision is a big opportunity, I said yes to the chance to go almost immediately".

"Shards" has been described as a stripped back guitar ballad with an Iberian flair. NTV have taken a more lowkey approach to the song this time around, hoping the more calm and emotional style of song will attract a new audience and potentially bring new voters along with it. Lyrically, the song is about the "shards" of a broken heart, with Chŏnsul's emotional performance taking centre stage. When it comes to staging, Chŏnsul and NTV haven't given much away, although Chŏnsul hinted that he'd want a more laid back affair, though he counted that by saying he also didn't want to "make it too boring too quickly" by having it be extremely simple. He has also been recorded saying he's "somewhat hopeful" at his chances at doing well at the competition, explaining that "ballad can be hit or miss at Worldvision, but I think with the extra flair ours can perform better". NTV have said they are aiming for a top half finish for this Worldvision, but did not elaborate further on their strategy, only revealing that they have more specific goals, predictions and boundaries for their future placements.

Here's to luck for both NTV and Chŏnsul and hopes for a better result than the robbery that was WV75! See you all in Worldvision 76!

Tobu: There And Back Again

Hello, I'm Tobu- most of you know who I am, but for those who don't, let me introduce myself. I've been active here in WorldVision since WV27, having been on and off the committee since WV41 as my schedule allows. With my most recent break, I've had the time to reflect on my time on the Committee, looking at what went well and what did not. I hope to use my experience to facilitate change and help WorldVision run smoothly, helping both new WV participants and new Committee members integrate into the flow of the contest.

I ran on a reform platform back in early 2017, and I still stand by my positions. We need to be more lenient on those who do not intentionally break the rules, and in general keep things simpler. We need to remember that we're playing a game on the forums of another game- if we were to become our own independent event with sponsors and such, I'd be totally fine with stricter rules and increased standardization. But we are not, and will not be in the near future, so I stand for flexibility, understanding, and simplicity, especially for players and players who host.

I've noticed that a lot of people are running on a reform platform this cycle, and I wholeheartedly support some juicy reforms. As noted previously, I've ran on one myself, and since being elected had gotten much of what I desired into fruition. However, one complaint received was that we were so set on pushing legislation and reforms through that we didn't leave very much room for compromise, leaving dissenters feeling a bit alienated. I hope to provide more room for discussion and to make sure that we as a Committee do not get so caught up in passing legislation that we forget how to listen and adapt our solutions.

One thing that we will have to discuss is the current disciplinary system, which is in need of a second look. Previously the Committee has discussed a penalty system that would be more lenient on first-time offenders, whether by a strike system or a points system. In light of a recent incident I would like to make sure that any legislation is practical and accessible for all Committee members, so that offenses are easily and fairly dealt with, along with all updates and host/committee voting results being announced in a timely manner. That last bit is something I'd like to focus on moving forward, as during my last term the Committee had a problem with being timely and I am motivated to not repeat that experience. In addition it would be great to have a centralized repository (i.e. a Google document) for all Committee rule changes, as I know personally how easily rule changes are lost amongst OOC pages, WVC telegrams, and the hubbub of the WVC Discord channel.

On the Discord side of things, I've been an active admin for the duration of my last run as a WVC member, and I've helped manage the server through various situations, especially when other Committee members were offline. At the same time, I'm aware that all of our discussions on Discord does drain the OOC thread of activity, so I do my best to support posting on the OOC thread to keep our forumside activity up and therefore keeping our contest additionally exciting for new players.

Thank you for taking the time to consider my candidacy! Voting for Tobu means voting for:

  • A voice for flexibility
  • A facilitator of reform
  • A mentor
  • An experienced hand
  • A fellow lover of music :P

It's Mikhail Khaled for Kalosia!

Image

His name is still fresh in the minds of Kalosians and beyond as he recently competed in the World Hit Festival. Although he came 12th out of 24 entries, his song gained popularity in a handful of countries, and this encouraged RTVK to build upon the momentum and internally select him for the 76th WorldVision Song Contest.

Radiu-Televižio Kalosia also announced a national final in which Khaled will present 3 new songs to viewers at home, who will then vote for the song that they think Khaled should perform on the international stage. All three of these songs, in addition to his WHF single, will appear on Khaled's upcoming album.

The 3 songs competing in this NF are as follows:

"Sia kanžu"
translation: Her Song
languages: Kalosian, Arabic

"Insemë"
translation: Together
languages: English, Kalosian

"Ma ja"
translation: But I
languages: Kalosian

To vote, please rank the songs and send them to Saviera by TG, or to me through Discord. I'd like to have them in by the time I turn 21, so please send them in by the 26th of August in your local time zone. That way, it will be easier for me to count the results on the evening of the next day.

Gražia and thank you in advance!

In a somewhat surprising result show, only one performance had appeared with 4 points, with another being 2nd place with being 3 points. This cuts voting short, so we immediately have a clear winner!

Fred Walker gets 4 points and will be playing in WV76, while Megastrife had gotten 3 points and will be given a honorable mention!

Overall Results:
#1 - 2 points
#2 - 1 point
#4 - 2 points
#5 - 2 points
#9 - 1 point
#10 - 4 points
#11 - 1 point
#12 - 2 points
#13 - 1 point
#14 - 3 points

Unfortunately, Besen will have to withdraw its candidacy for the Worldvision Committee, as I feel my availability to the task may be uncertain and damaging to the future Committee's agenda for attentiveness. I wish all other candidates the best of luck.

THE BIG REVEAL: ESTOGIUM

Skye Alexandra-Lewis to represent Estogium at WorldVision 76 with "Pick Me Up"

Image

After a disappointing 17th place at the 74th WorldVision Song Contest and a break from the 75th, Estogium is returning to WorldVision with "Pick Me Up" by Skye Alexandra-Lewis

Last night on the nation's preview WorldVision show, The Big Reveal, Estogium's broadcaster officially released the Estogian WorldVision Song Contest song called "Pick Me Up" by singer from Estogium City, Skye Alexandra-Lewis. She will travel to wherever is hosting the WorldVision Song Contest to try and get Estogium back on the upper left hand side of the scoreboard, potentially scoring Estogium their first ever victory since their debut at the 33rd WorldVision Song Contest as North Britonisea. Skye Alexandra-Lewis says that she is "looking forward to meeting the fans and performing music on such a large scale as the WorldVision Song Contest - a true honour"

The song has been positively received around the country, with many people already streaming the song online making it the most popular Estogian WorldVision Song Contest song before the end of the day of release in Estogium since the 62nd WorldVision Song Contest.

Below you can find a sample of the lyrics;

Get into your car,
Find me, I'll send you over my address oh
This won't be something you regret

Come and pick me up
Let me get your heartbeat racing
Tired of being alone.
And baby don't you fuss,
I don't mind the state of your house
Just as long I am with you

The WorldVision Song Contest will return soon live on RVC for all Estogian fans to watch...

Committtee Applicaton|Worldvision: More Than a Contest

Postby Achaean Republic » Sat Aug 24, 2019 7:35 pm

Worldvision: More Than a Contest

Dear Reader:

Buenos días, buenas tardes, and buenas noches from wherever in the Multiverse you are reading this open letter. My name is the Achaean Republic, though some in the community have called me Ach or Achaea for short. I first debuted in the Worldvision Song Contest in its 18th edition until the 20th, taking an eight-year hiatus from NationStates and returning in May 2019 to a community that has evolved with the pace of time and the technological advances it has led into roleplay. I am blessed to be part of an international community of humble men and women, more than willing to share their best selves and unite the world though the healing power of music. I have enjoyed every step of the way into collaborating, competing, and celebrating the chaotic, yet amazing environment of Worldvision.

However, I am well aware of the many concerns old and new members have offered regarding the current handling of the Worldvision:

  1. Many decisions feel as if they are taken in secret, without consideration to the concerns and objections of host broadcasters until after the fact, and even so such information is treated on a need-to-know basis. A reclusive committee is an inefficient committee.
  2. Bidding for and hosting the contest with its metrics feel too broad or too constricted to be considered a chore with uneven considerations for graphics, roleplay and quality––which sways away member broadcasters who may not have the resources to satisfactory fulfill the demands and requirements of hosting.
  3. As we are an international forum, considerations need to be taken in order to ensure that the vast majority of members can participate in live events. In many cases, I have unfortunately missed many listen-alongs and live events due to real-life work commitments that I cannot postpone.
  4. The accuracy of the voting process is also cast into question. While unfortunately errors do happen and must be amended and closely monitored, so we can avoid further Monterra Screwjobs that force countries to sit out of the contest in anger and disgust––and potentially leaving the game forever.

We cannot go through the motions of posting a song with roleplay and then voting, rinse, wash, and repeat. As members of this contest, we have the opportunity to start anew every season, to correct the mistakes of the past, and to incorporate our best selves, reinvigorating and reimagining Worldvision into the premier entertainment behemoth of NationStates.

But how will I do that, you ask, dear reader?

  1. I have already created two documents with the help of the community: the Official Rules for the Worldvision Song Contest; and a census of participating nations including their trigrams for both Worldvision and World Hit Festival. We can update these rules every few contests with input from the whole community and the approval of the Committee. This will allow a constant refresher of the core tenets of the contest, while at the same time improving upon the challenges faced by our predecessors. With the Census paper, we can also expand its reach and register national broadcasters, be it public or private, into the system. These will be the ones authorized to broadcast Worldvision events, while at the same time keeping tabs on the activity and participation of our members.
  2. Transparency is everything; as such, to assess that broadcasters can actually afford to pay for the costs associated with hosting the contest, I propose that bidding broadcasters be required to reveal their budget. This will enhance roleplay: Will you be able to afford LED lights that may benefit some delegations, or spend money on a light show that will benefit other delegations? How will the climate, politics, and culture of the city impact the hosting of Worldvision? How will delegations react to any sudden budget cuts that can affect their own performances––and chances to win?
  3. On the flip side, I also propose that each delegation pay set dues that should be placed into a pool for whoever is selected as host. The hosting country will have access to these funds if it so desires, but it must account to the Committee how will these funds be allocated.
  4. Worldvision needs a brand, such as the one in the real-life Eurovision Song Contest: When you see that heart with the hosting flag in the center, you know that’s Eurovision! I propose that Worldvision could also use a unique branding logo and iconography, one that every member can design, exhibit and vote for. This way, NationStates will be encouraged to compete in the contest, become members, and reap the benefits of joining the server.

I have dreams and ambitions for Worldvision in the future. If you elect me to serve in the Worldvision committee, I will make sure that we use our talents to create a much more interactive musical experience for every member, both old and new, to enjoy.

Thank you for reading.

Muchas gracias.

From Ash Singer Leads the Way to WorldVision

In a thrilling edition of Kdam-WorldVision tonight, lead singer of 'From Ash', Dikla Romanova has won the contest with a landslide 71 points, landing in the top four of every international juror on the night. Accompanying her in the song 'Hunger', which picked up top marks from three countries is Ethiopian singer Natanui who lays down a verse and choruses in the song. An interesting spin away from the typical Kishraeli entry at WorldVision, 'Hunger' is a melodic rock number which serves to add diversity to the catalogue of songs at the coming contest. Dikla said "I'm looking forward to bring something new from Ertzei Kishim, we are not all dance club b*tches, as much as it seems". Voting for the host of the contest will happen among broadcasters later this week, at which point we will know to where exactly Dikla and Natanui will be travelling to and representing Kishrael on the international stage.

Mister X for Committee!

Image

After much persuasion, I have decided to stand for election to the committee after a 20-edition hiatus.

For the new nations, who am I? Well, I'm Mister X, I've completed every edition since WorldVision 29 - that's the longest unbroken streak ever - and I served as committee member between WV35 and WV56. I resigned after irreconcilable differences with that committee's direction. So why am I making a comeback?

Simple. I do feel as though there is a deep-rooted malaise in the WorldVision Song Contest's organisation and day-to-day running. Every candidate always stands on a promise to be more open and transparent, and that never seems to be rewarded. Indeed, if anything, the committee is becoming more and more reclusive. We saw that at the last committee elections when the voting system was changed on the day of the results without any consultation or anybody asking for help either on the forum or through Discord. We may well have all voted differently had we known the change in the results. In the last edition, I made a complaint about Saviera's lyrics; that they were too close to the original and should be disqualified. This was swept under the carpet with no announcement that Saviera was fine, as the committee decided.

I will push very hard for more consultation, transparency, and openness on such issues. So that means, in practice:
- publishing notes of our discussions of certain major events
- encourage more direct democracy by throwing issues out to the wider community

What's more, I have several ideas (such as a longer break between editions) which I would definitely throw out to the public first.

So basically...

The STRC, Scotatrova's national broadcaster has recently announced that Manuel Flauirnse's win at the Scotatrovian Song Selection may be short lived less than 48 hours after it was announced he would be Scotatrova's representative. Just following his win, it was reported to the broadcaster through an anonymous source that Manuel's past is full of some "questionable" actions. A video of him and another man partaking in an adult film scene has since made the rounds around social media. The incident has also made national media coverage in the subsequent days. Now that this has caught the attention of the broadcaster, it has been announced that Manuel's victory at the Scotatrovian Song Selection has since been suspended. So it is here and now confirmed through the STRC that Manuel Flauirnse will no longer be Scotatrova's representative for WorldVision and that a new representative will be chosen in the coming days, and will not be one of the other contestants from the Scotatrovian Song Selection. This announcement has been met with immense outrage and dismay from the public, who have called the broadcaster's actions unjust and that Manuel should not be judged from an action that in no way should lead to him being disqualified. Manuel himself has yet to speak on the issue, but a statement is expected from him soon. If a replacement is not found soon, the STRC will withdraw Scotatrova from WorldVision 76, but there is talk that the broadcaster already has someone in mind. More information will be posted as it comes in.
