[Sophistan]

This RPG is in Polis. The capital of the Epistocratic Confederation of Sophistan. This nation is a philosopher's rule and therefore authoritarian and totalitarian. The highest authority is the Council of Scholars, which has absolute political power. The society is divided into three classes:
1) The infantry
2) The guards
3) The epistocrats

Despite this fact, Sophistan is open to tourism as it is also a South Seas paradise. The land is located on a small island in the South Pacific and the only access is the port of Polis. Tourists, of course, are required to comply with applicable laws and regulations. This RPG is an open, fairly free game, which has some story lines, but otherwise is freely accessible. It refers only to the area of the capital Polis.

Beach of Polis: There are beautiful, white sandy beaches on the equally beautiful deep blue sea. Most of the beaches are located just outside the city and are therefore surrounded by lush forests.

Downtown: In the inner city on Polis they find the habitat of the lowest caste. It is decorated in beautiful, Greek style.

Upper Class: Here live our intellectual rulers. It is rich in cultural offerings such as theaters, museums and concert halls.

Culture
Sophistan culture contains many features of Greek culture, combined with classical features of a totalitarian state. Thus, the philosopher Plato is quite worshiped in politics and society, as was Karl Marx in the Soviet Union. In almost every public building stands a portrait of him. The life of humans is over-regulated and strongly dependent on their caste. The intellectual ruling caste lives in high culture with theaters, museums, balls and concerts and enjoying something that is comparable to freedom of expression. The caste of the workers, on the other hand, lives in constant observation and has to deal with fairly low standards.
Nudity is required by law, only the guards and some selected professions are allowed to wear clothes. The official languages of the Confederation are Greek and Latin. In Polis, mainly Greek is spoken. Most sophists profess no religion. Although religion is not forbidden, it is highly frowned upon. It distracts from philosophizing. Education and philosophy are extremely important in Sophistan, both of which are not independent of state ideology. Even though all drugs are banned, it does not prevent people from gathering in pubs and going to restaurants. The highly developed black market helps.

The only entrance to Sophistan is the port of Polis, where there is also the registration center. Automobiles in the interior are not allowed.

OOC rules
- This is a very open world free social RP. There are several narrative threads that can be followed, but this is not necessary..

- I as OP maintain the right to play any NPC, whether they are planned or random to interact with your character. You may also interact with a random NPC which you can invent on the spot.

- When you post, your first line must be Bolded, stating your location and character name.

- No violence against NPC unless it is provoked.

- You always stay within polis.

-It is possible to break laws to create a scenario.

-The entry to Sophistan is difficult and expensive. So it would be logical that your character is either rich, politically charged or a famous intellectual.

Aurora was born in 2000 to Capitano Luigi Alce of the Confederated Coast Guard, and his wife, in Alto Mare. Her mother works in the library of the Imbarco del Grande Guardiano, the Boarding School of the Great Guardian, and thus managed to get her a place there after her father stayed at sea in 2010 (his vessel, the Zampa del Lupo, was damaged in a storm, he being washed off the vessel and probably drowning).
In 2002, his vessel was the first vessel of the Confederated Coast Guard to visit the Free Lands since the Second Vellenge War. There, he told a few officers of the SDF-Navy during small talk, that he had a little daughter (Aurora), them pooling money to buy a Guarding Fox Plushie, which she has to this day. He's called Ruvido.
Her educational career was unassuming (which was one of the reasons for her to go to Kuronami), with her excelling in mathematics and sciences, while managing in languages and sports, while she is not good in social sciences like History.
She once wanted to, after graduation, study astronomy and astrophysics, but that was before she, by coincidence, found out, that she was better suited for being a businesswoman. She became the apprentice of her father's old acquaintance Silvio Esecutore, who she knew from the start to be a member and Enforcer of the LCN.
In 2019, she attended the 2019 Cuan Spring Festival.
Later in the same year, she was involved in the Activities in Port Ember of Selkie and Lutetian Companies, representing the Casa di Commercio dei Viticoltori a Fortezza and, unofficially, the LCN. She used the chance to see a bit of the country and was contacted by Johnny Azula, (where we currently stand ICly with PE).

Nolwenn Drochnós of the Tribe of Cavan was born in Forfar in 2002, as daughter of the large landowner and forestry magnate Raidri Drochnós of the Tribe of Cavan and his wife Ava. She is the oldest of three children, the other two (Finnegan, 2005, and Leonard, 2007) being boys. She often spent time in the visitor area of the Adhmad Wood Processing Plant, watching the large machines of her father's workplace bring in and process the lumber brought from the Great Woods.
She took the entrance exams for the Iris Boarding School Complex in 2008 and succeeded. In her first school year already, she fell in love with the Sensha-Do Team and its large machines, almost vowing to one day be a member of the team. In 2013, that wish was fulfilled, she became part of the team aboard one of the Toirneach Motor Gun Carriages, being the Assistant Gunner. In 2015, she was transferred to driving training for one of the Crogall Amphibious Armoured Vehicles, which she passed with flying colours and, in 2017, became vehicle commander of Ronm-Dó. Her first match as commander was watched by her parents, who almost burst with pride.
In 2019, she was promoted to Lieutenant of Ronm-Squadron. During the 2019 Iris Boarding School Complex Sensha-Do Convention, she had a short affair with a member of the Naval School Sensha-Do Team, although she does not want to say, who it was.
Nolwenn is set to graduate in 2021. After that, she wants to study, although she does not yet know what. She tends towards forestry, but she is not sure yet.

Silvio Esecutore was born in Miniera, Lutetii, in 1974. His childhood was influenced by the coup fo the Republican Junta in 1976, its rise and, in 1983, its attempt to reconquer Mount Vellenge - the Second Vellenge War, in which the Free Lands and Lutetii almost destroyed each other.
Shortly afterwards, the Lutetian Civil War happened, lasting from 1985 to 1987. In 1986, he and his family had to fight for their survival in the besieged city of Miniera.
The 12 year old boy saw and did things, which were not nice and will not be detailed here, lost his family to marauding soldiers and, one night, tried to steal from the wrong people: A man of the LCN, who pitied him instead of just killing him.
He took him in and saw to it, that Silvio got into a good boarding school and made sure, that the lad would contact him after graduation. Judging by his grades, he was an average student, but he did clash with fellow students on a weekly basis. Further looking into that by his foster father revealed, that he got into fights because his fellow students were rude to girls, the young man rising to their defense.
Graduating in 1992, with 18, he became a conscript for the Navy, where he got to know a young man by the name of Luigi Alce, who, after the disbandment of the military in the same year, joined the Coast Guard.
The two stayed in touch, even after, in 2000, Luigi's daughter Aurora was born.
In 1994, Silvio joined one of the LCN's front companies as an apprentice businessman, soon making a little name for himself. He became an Enforcer in 1999 and got into the circle of Antonio Siggaro in 2009. Siggaro is one of the highest men within the LCN, usually responsible for expansion projects.
In 2010, Luigi died and Silvio got acquainted with his daughter, Aurora, a girl of ten, and arranged for her to be sent to one of the best boarding schools of the country. He also financed her trip and year abroad to Kuronami in 2018, without her knowledge.
In 2019, he was surprised by her approaching her to become his apprentice - he still had her join him, with recommendation of Siggaro, making her an Apprentice-Mafiosa. Officially, she is his apprentice as a businesswoman. Going to Port Ember was basically their first larger job together.

Charlotte Huntley was born and raised in the Musk Borough of Port Ember Megalopolis, Port Ember, in an family of academics - her father and mother both being professors at a renowned university. Her two siblings, both elder brothers, have also obtained their doctorate degrees.

Charlotte decided to follow the common path of her family and went to university, obtaining her doctorate in economics at age 24, and her doctorate in Philosophy at age 28. To support her continious studies and independent life style, she lectured at her university from age 22 allready, establishing herself as a leading mind im her respective fields.

She published her non fictional book, The Huntley Business Model at age 29, which was a massive and critical success, seen as a pioneering work in financial philosophy, and subsequently traveled the world to work as a privae consultant to large companies who attempted to impliment her theory into practice.

Now at age 32, she has recently published her second book, "The Huntley Business Model in Action", which documents the success stories of the companies who implimented her theory.

She is currently very renowned in both academical and business circles, and has become a semi celebrity as a result, regularly featuring in magazines and blogs.

Charlotte has now been invited to the strange nation of Sophistan to work at a university as a guest lecturer due to her fame and success, which she reluctently agreed to for the time being.

Iuna Radharceolaíocht of the Tribe of Westmeath was born in 2003 in Lodge, as daughter of an unknown father and a teenage mom, who became a model and photographer for Bicíní Industries in 2005, namely Fiona Radharceolaíocht of the Tribe of Westmeath. Iuna's early childhood was not happy, but she and her mother made do, until times got better. Jokes and humour and little pranks often kept the spirits up. In 2009, she took the entrance exams for the Iris Boarding School Complex and succeeded.
She joined the Coileáin in 2014, always as a gunner, first on a Faolchú Armoured Personnel Carrier for the Gabha G-80 76mm Gun, then on a Crogall Amphibious Armoured Vehicle from 2016. She was with Ronm-Dó from that point onwards, working together with Nolwenn quite well, both when she was a driver and when she was vehicle commander.

Caollaidhe Saibhir of the Tribe of Wicklow was born in 2004 in Inis as daughter of Major Yven Saibhir of the Tribe of Wicklow, who nowadays commands Inis Army Air Field and was, back then, one of the chief instructors for the mechanics of the Gaoth Fighterbomber of the SDF-Army Air Combat Command.
In 2010, Cao tried to apply to the Iris Boarding School Complex, but she did not make the cut. She took the exams again in 2015 and this time, she succeeded, joining the school in time for Middle School. In that time between taking the exams, she discovered Sensha-Do and Tank Sport, becoming a fan of both (she still cheers for Realincse Fánaígh). With her home situation becoming worse and worse, with her parents finally filing a divorce in 2011, Tank Sport and Sensha-Do became her refuge and hold in a world, which seemed to give in to madness. As divorces are frowned upon in Selkie-Society, Cao was ostracised by her friends.
Once she was at the Iris, she immediately set out to join the Coileáin, first as assistant gunner on one of the Toirneach Motor Gun Carriages, then as Gunner, before being assigned to Ronm-Dó in 2017.
Cao is set to graduate in 2023. She plans to make an apprenticeship as a mechanic or to study engineering.

In 2017, she joined the Iris Boarding School Complex Sensha-Do Team after a short tenure with the Swimming Club, having fallen in love with the tanks due to the Historic Fleet and the few foreign tanks in it. She was trained as Ronm-Dó's driver by Nolwenn herself, who was in her first year as vehicle commander. In early 2019, Deirdre got herself an old car, a HMW SA-58, and is one of the few drivers on campus.
Deirdre graduates in 2024, but she does not know, what she'll do afterwards.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'm already working on a factbook, which might bring some light into the dark. In the introductory article I add the section Culture. Of course, I'm also willing to answer questions during role-playing.
In Sophistan, for ideological reasons, clothing is banned (which symbolically represents the regime's totalitarianism and arbitrariness).
I would like to include it in the roleplaying game as it can lead to some narrative strands. Nudity is often a tourist attraction. Maybe that can help you.

1. The Sophist universities indeed invite guest lecturers. Your character would even have an extremely high reputation and admiration in society.
2. The academic discourse is relatively free and open. However, it should not involve direct criticism of the Sophist system. A business philosopher would go, because they are also in a planned economy (just stop in the civil service) and can definitely carry forward. As a master brewer, you can also talk about alcohol, but you just can not have one with you and taste it.
Both characters could be interesting for storylines.
3. I actually see that as an ideological gray area. Although I would let the nudity in the role play, but you are as a lecturer (especially as a philosopher) in the rank of this ban to work around.

It would connect with some bridging days falling well in the Free Lands and thus work into a four to five day vacation celebrating some, yet undefined milestone for their team (which has the means to do so, don't worry). I was actually thinking about Ronm-Dó's Crew.

The 12 year old boy saw and did things, which were not nice and will not be detailed here, lost his family to marauding soldiers and, one night, tried to steal from the wrong people: A man of the LCN, who pitied him instead of just killing him.
He took him in and saw to it, that Silvio got into a good boarding school and made sure, that the lad would contact him after graduation. Judging by his grades, he was an average student, but he did clash with fellow students on a weekly basis. Further looking into that by his foster father revealed, that he got into fights because his fellow students were rude to girls, the young man rising to their defense.
Graduating in 1992, with 18, he became a conscript for the Navy, where he got to know a young man by the name of Luigi Alce, who, after the disbandment of the military in the same year, joined the Coast Guard.
The two stayed in touch, even after, in 2000, Luigi's daughter Aurora was born.

Aoibhe was born in the settlement of An Grianan one of the few sizeable towns in a province known more for agriculture than anything else and where her parents met. She made average marks in school and attended one of the one of the local universities, for the first half of her college career, her father then pulled some strings and get her into a better school in one of the bigger cities in Cois Dara. There she discovered her talent for accounting and impressed her professors enough to to get an internship to the Coileán cooperation one of the biggest financial companies in the nation. She eventually landed a job in accounting and made her way towards the top, being one of the youngest employees to overseeing that department.
