I had to smile at his comment, Alrich making a dismissive hand gesture - it was no problem. We were actually both surprised by how many people indeed spoke our tongue in their own variations, so it was no problem.
We returned the bow, then he went and we met the next new entrants, namely Adele Falk with Lieutenant Commander Karim Maghamir, Royal Kyrenaian Coast Guard, who were both air racers, who would participate in the air race tomorrow. The flying officer of the RKCG looked quite dashing, if I may say so, while Falk with her eyepatch looked daring and dashing.
And we went from there...

Bertram Onekel.
If I may introduce myself? Bertram Onekel, actor, teacher, father and grandfather and generally considered an old sod of by now 72 years.
Which was maybe the reason why I was the date of one of the most beautiful women tonight... maybe it was my natural charm and skills as a dancer, but those were stories for other days. In any case, I accompanied Aaltje Schreyg, a young actress, companion of mine in two movies already and generally a beautiful woman.
She was blonde, blue eyes shining at the world. She was dressed in a beautiful, aqua evening dress, her hair done up and exposing her neck, a deep-red tassel above her face's right side gave it a highlight. Bangs fell down to cover a bit of her forehead. She was beautiful and I will freely admit, that the old lecher in me took a moment to come to terms, that the little girl from Bahnhofsmädchen was more then a little girl, but a woman.
I know, that she saw it and her small smile had told me more then I would have dared to ask.
So, now we were standing in the Grand Ball Room of Schloss Zyng and enjoying the company before the big night began. We had lemonades, the alcohol was reserved for later tonight, and when the man approached, I knew, that I had seen him somewhere...
"Hullo there, Miss Schreyg," he greeted my date, smiling a smile, which did not help the problem of being familiar with him from somewhere.
Aaltje smiled. "Good evening, Mister Buchan.", she greeted the man and something clicked. Aaltje motioned to me, I bowed my head lightly. "My date for tonight, Bertram Onekel, an actor like the two of us."
I smiled and extended my hand. "It is a pleasure, Mister Buchan. Crowface was one of yours, right?", I asked.

Ruairi bowed, then shook the old actor's hand, with his grin growing wider.

"Yes," he answered, "and pretty much, my most popular one. And I've seen you before in that drama film with Miss Schreyg, here," he waves his hand," What was it again?"

I nodded. "Me neither. I would be interested in the results, however.", I said with a smile and took a sip. "The culinary arts and their cultural implications are a bit of a passion of mine."
"And that's a textbook example for understatement.", he said, "She has beaten the Palace Cook in dessert making."

"Well then - how come your last 'sweet vitamin bomb' you presented as the purest and healthiest drink under the sun, contained a shot of vodka as well?" - Shiruko, the Speed Junkie, wondered.
"It gives the drink a special note" - Keoke said, grinning.
Shiruko grinned back, shaking her head.
"In any case" - Keoke continued, "I do have a culinary passion as well, even though I'm not convinced, that I could beat a Teressian Palace Cook in dessert making - or a Shikonjimanese one, for that matter. Next came a couple of people, who I looked forward to meeting, for Cecelia and I... I did not know much about her background, but I knew about her current stance: Wife to her Duke.
You might now understand, why I looked forward to meeting her.
Her husband - maybe, too, but not as much as her. Alrich looked forward to meeting him, I knew that, and I presumed due to similar reasons. The two of them looked beautiful together, a bit like out of a fairy tale.
Alrich and I almost intercepted them.
"Duke Benedict, Duchess Cecelia... it is a great pleasure to meet you.", Alrich said, shook the man's hand, then breathed a soft kiss in the back of the Duchess' hand - kissing of the hand, an appropriate greeting to start the evening off. "I hope, that we can talk more later."
"Indeed, I look forward to it, Your Highnesses!", I said, smiling especially at Cecelia.
"Please, have fun at the party!", Alrich said with a smile and let them past, onto the ballroom floor.
There, the two of them, I noted, were already expected by a woman with short, blonde hair and ruby-red eyes, who wore a floor length, black dress without back. She was dark skinned and that left little doubt as to who the woman with the very female curves was: Princess Fara bint-Dardan of the Ilkhanate of Megido and one of Kyrenaia's Special Ambassadors.
She smiled as she invited them to join her.
We didn't have much time to relax, though, as...

"Oh believe me, the pleasure is ours!" Cecelia greeted extending her hand to give the gentle kiss of greeting. "And thank you for having us this lovely evening, we're excited to be here."

"I share my wife's sentiments, we're very thrilled to be here. I'm sure we'll have a chance to discuss much this evening."

"For sure! We will have a good evening tonight." the gave a slight bow of thank you and moved along "Benny, such nice folks here."

"Oh for sure. I think we'll have a nice dance too with each other, looks like there will be music this evening."

"Wonderful!" Cecelia looked about taking note of some of the guests she could recognize, which wasn't many. She spotted the two UIS Women, she knew that at least. The UIS Princess was present at her own mingling for the welcoming party of her and her husband so no surprise they'd be here as well. It also seemed one of Kyrenian's finest was here as well. She smiled a bright smile, this would be a fun evening!

Supreme Marshal Davidov Santamaninsky

The black classic limousine containing the Supreme Marshal of the Greater Empire of Krospovia drove through the moonlight gardens of the palace of Teressien when it suddenly stopped in front of the main entrance. The chauffeur opened his door, stepped outside and made a few steps before he reached and carefully opened the last of the cars doors. In that precise moment, Davidov Santamaninsky got out of the car and looked to the Royal Palaces facade serious and indifferent but at the same time with admiration.

He was wearing a full dress Krospovian Military uniform, consisting of a peaked cap with a gold eagle wearing the national roundel surrounded by a laurel wreath, a dress tunic full of military medals and with the collars and shoulder straps indicating his rank of Supreme Marshal, military dress trousers and a pair of carefully polished black shoes.

When he stepped food inside the building he took off his cap in an elegant and military way. He was a man in his late fifties and early sixties although he appeared older, his black hair was perfectly combed back and even though of his wrinkles, it was evident that during his youth he was a quite handsome man. Immediately after, he approached with firm step towards the Fürst of Teressien and his unknown (at least for Santamaninsky) female companion. “Good evening Your Highness, it is for me a pleasure to be in here” said the Marshal in a correct, although very forced German. He then looked towards the woman, and said in a respectful but cold and distant way (as it was the typical way to treat an unknown women in Krospovia) “Good evening, Fräulein”.

The Tracht had its high points, especially this one. White blouse, of course, black bodice with light blue cross-lacing to close it in the front, long, red skirt and light blue half-apron. Simple and elegant, much like the Tracht my older sister Ida wore and the one my younger sister Enya wore...
...who got the best date out of us three by default, also because neither of her older sisters secured themselves a date for the night, but were in high spirits of being able to fill their dance cards.
I was a blonde, with blue eyes and a slightly round face, which I had from my mother's side. It made me, with a corresponding hairstyle, look innocent, and as I preferred to wear my hair open and only style it a little bit, I was the sort of natural beauty.
Ida, on the other hand, had high cheek bones, from our Father, and a stern face and demeanor. Grey-blue eyes looked at the world like only a philosopher could and that was, what she was studying (I study sports medicine).
And we three had decided to spent a bit of time together before we filled our dance cards, which we would do later... during the first intermission. But for now, I was alone and I wanted someone to talk to...
The new arrivals holding hands and chatting as they left Enya and Fürst Alrich seemed... preoccupied. Could I dare?
The woman in red seemed friendly enough, but, as I caught scraps of their conversation, I could not help but think, that they were more rivals then friends...
My decision came in an instant. I flagged down a Hausmädchen in the distinctive uniform of Schloss Zyng, which accentuated her assets, and asked her to bring two lemonades to the two of them, who I would (hopefully) soon find out were Madame Pacifica and Madame Miela of the UIS, as well as a message.
I watched the Hausmädchen go off, get the lemonades and then approach the two of them. She offered them the tall glasses with the slightly sour lemonade, which had little sugar, and brought my message, that I invited them to a chat without any strings attached, mostly because I have no strings attached.
Hopefully, they would come, I thought, as I sipped my own lemonade..

Pacifica and Miela had carried on a conversation, mostly small things about home. Weather, local happenings and so on. How each were in their respective home villages "I really should come visit there I mean it sounds so lovely." Pacifica said

"It really is ya know. Come and I'll put you up for the night." The two were approached by another person offering them a beverage and how could they refuse. There was also something else surprising message to go meet with another party-goer. And how could they resist the fun chance to go meet someone else? That's why they were here, after all. Approaching the one who had approached them they each gave a friendly greeting. "Seems we owe you some gratitude for fetching a couple of drinks for us?" Pacifica inquired

"Then we thank you kindly. Might we join you?"

Ah, yes, the Empire of the Scarlet Eagle... an acquaintance to our friends in Kyrenaia, who had, true to Kyrenaian Form, not spoken a word. Prince Damir, who was already in the Ballroom somewhere with his daughter (of course, both of them wearing Fistan Alshams), had told Alrich with a small smile, that he should form his own opinion.
We had looked them up ourselves...
Alrich did not even reply to the salute, instead spoke in clear, Received Pronounciation English: "The pleasure is a all ours, Dowager-Empress. Welcome to Schloss Zyng." He let a beat pass. "I am afraid, that we will have to talk later, if the time permits. For now, have fun at the Ball."
I bowed my head as well, ignoring the salute as well. My smile to either of them was the usual wide one, especially when looking at Mister Bradley. "I hope to meet you later, too.", I said and that was the end of that.

Althougj the welcome from Alrich and his date would have been deemed cold as best by some people in the Empire, including the actual Emperor Anaximander, for his mother Agathe it was only a thing to let slide.
"Thank you Prince, replies the Dowager Empress, before grabbing her companion's hand and walking away.
-Geez, says Bradley once they have gotten out of earshot, the Fritz is not very talkative, ain't he? asks the Colonel, referring to Alrich by using a slang term for German. To think you had to support this with Christian for a good part of your lives... To witness it as a guest is entirely different from witnessing it as a security guard.
-Brad, come on, don't be so pessimistic! replies Agathe as the couple comes to a stop. You have to remember that we are not acquainted with the Principalty like others here are, so it's normal. Besides, I remember having read somewhere that their version of German is similar to Schönbrunn Dialect, and it sounds a bit bored, so it's normal the first impression was awkward.
-Okay okay, I get it Agathe! replies the male Colonel as he puts his hands in front of him. Jeez. So, based on that, what do you suggest we do, Your Majesty? he asks with a hint of sarcasm in his voice.
-Find us something to drink, I have something to do, replies Agathe, before walking away in search of the restroom.

A few minutes later...
After coming back from the restroom, Agathe had found her companion waiting for her in the same spot, two glasses of watered lemon juice in hand. As the Scarlet American couple takes a sip, they start to walk to the Ballroom entry, where Brad's keen (and only) eye spots two familiar figures in traditiinal clothing talking a few feet away.
"When in unknown territory, if possible, try to connect with familiar elements, mutters Bradley under his breath.
-Hmm? asks Agathe, not having understood him.
-Nothing, replies her companion. But if I may suggest, in this unknown territory,I see two familiar figures that may help us navigate through it, he says as he jerks his chind discreetly to Prince Damir and his daughter Aurelia.
-Good thinking, replies Agathe with a smile as she turns her head towards the two Kyrenaians, before pushing her lover forward. Go on, I'll be watching on how you interact with other guests for your debut, she says with a grin.
-Happy to serve Milady, replies Myers before walking forward, reaching the two Kyrenaians a few seconds later.
-Excuse me Sir, Madame, says Brad with a formal tone and smile, but I can't help but think that you are fine beverage connoisseurs. Would you mind telling me about the ones I can find here, if you know any that is?"
Not bad Brad, not bad, thinks Agathe as she watches from afar.

Jolene Gudfrey in conversation with the von Sykane's

Jolene's smile grew once more when the von Sykane's offered to fund her future canine research center. Jolene obviously did not need additional money, she had more wealth then she could ever dream of spending, but that was not the point here. By allowing a wealthy patron to get involved in a project, you build friendships and partnerships. And in world where you have too much money, that is the most valuable resource you could have.

She feintly recognised the name of Alexander von Sykane, a explorer of some sorts many many years ago. She could not recall his achievements or life, but it did not truly matter.

She responded with a kind tone "Oh my that would be perfect! There will most certainly be a research station established. We could call it 'The Alexander von Sykane Memorial Research Institute', or something down those lines, to celebrate your family's rich history."

That was my little secret: I did not cook for people, who I did not know, but for people dear to me, who could appreciate my culinary art and would feel the love I poured into my desserts.
Vin nodded - little traitor.
"I'm getting hungry with all of this talk about food.", he stated with a grin.

I smiled, when I saw Duchess Cecelia's bright smile - such innocence, such purity... compared to that, I was a jaded veteran of such events. I admit, that I slightly envied her.
Still, I approached her and her husband with a few, quick steps.
"Good evening, Benedict-Khan and Cecelia-Khana.", I said with a small bow of my head, "Princess Fara bint-Dardan, Special Ambassador of the Sultanate of Kyrenaia." I raised my head again. "I was asked by Vizier Azad Safir, our Minister for Foreign Affairs, to express our congratulations at your ascendance to the Throne of the Duchy of Elystadt, as well as to express his and the Sultanate's apologies, for not having sent a delegate to the evening."
I let a beat pass.
"So, business concluded, let's get to the more fun-part!", I said and smiled, "How are our good friends in Kuronami doing?"

Enya Findehoof.
Alrich and I had been given a short break from greeting by simply no one new arriving, until Supreme Marshal Davidov Santamaninsky arrived. He was an older gentleman, in his youth, quite likely good looking, in a uniform full with awards and decorations. On a younger man, this would have looked woefully out of place, but he wore it like a glove.
His steps were firm as he stepped in front of the two of us and greeted in gramatically correct, but very forced German: "Good evening Your Highness, it is for me a pleasure to be in here." He then turned to me. "Good evening, Fräulein."
Alrich smiled.
"The pleasure is all mine, Supreme Marshal.", he said and offered his hand for a firm shake, speaking in English, as German apparently made the man feel uncomfortable. He turned to introduce me. "My companion for tonight, Miss Enya Findehoof."
"It's an honour, Supreme Marshal.", I said and did a small curtsy. He had treated me cold and distant, but respectful, so there was no reason to not treat him respectfully.
"I hope, that we will be able to speak more later tonight.", Alrich added, "Until then, however, I am afraid, that I must excuse ourselves. Until then!"
From there, it was Santamaninsky's own choice as to whom he would approach. The only people wearing uniforms tonight were Admiral Findehoof, my Grandmother and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of the Principality, Lieutenant Commander Maghamir of the RKCG (who was mostly here as an air racer) and several guests from further away. Then, there were people, who wore their clothes like uniforms, for example Son Excellence Lieven Barillon, a Nuntius Peculiarius of Nouvelle Dunkerque, who wore his habit as only Christian Priests could...
Aside from that, there were also many, many more civilians here, which might raise his interest, from my sisters to politicians and industrialists to Ambassadors, the Gudhamuns standing out a bit.
Really, it was all his choice as to what to do with the evening from here.

Come to think of it, I had no idea who I had in front of me... which would make this really awkward, if they were Heads of State or something.

Princess Aurelia bint-Damir.
The Fistan Alshams, the Sun Dress, was the Kyrenaian Traditional clothing, baring the midriff. I had chosen the variation with harem-pants, the veil of translucent Selkie-Silk, embroidered with golden thread, the whole dress in a darker, subdued colour as I was still expressing my sadness over my schoolmates, who had died in a needless terrorist attack a few weeks back...
An attack aimed at me, because I loved another girl and wanted to marry her, wanted to change the law, so that others in similar situations could form their lasting bonds as well.
An attack, which had claimed thirteen people and wounded over a hundred others, some so grievous, that they would never again be the same - then again, who would be?
Anyway, today was not the night for grief, but a night of celebration.
And as such, I was at Schloss Zyng with my father, Prince Damir, and awaited for the actual ball to begin with the Polonaise. Alrich had been polite, if a bit stiff, as usual, his girlfriend was just a cute blob of bubbly cuteness - and they could say, whatever they wanted, they were a couple, even if they didn't know it yet!
We were already with a conversation partner, a young woman, who already ruled as a Herzogin, a Khana or a Duchess, Alvina von Raycbucht. She was a black-haired woman, wearing a long, dark ball gown, which accentuated her golden eyes.
The conversation was pleasant, so when a familiar voice sounded, I had to smile. No need to not include him and his date into the conversation!
"Excuse me Sir, Madame...", Bradley Myers said, quite formal, but still smiling, "...but I can't help but think that you are fine beverage connoisseurs. Would you mind telling me about the ones I can find here, if you know any that is?"
Alvina raised an eyebrow and I smiled.
"Colonel Myers!", Dad said with a smile forming on his face, "Good to see you! If you're looking for good drinks, you certainly came to the right place!" He let a beat pass. "First things first, though. Alvina-Khana, if I may introduce? Dowager-Empress Agathe of the House Blachkov and Colonel Bradley Myers, both of the Empire of the Scarlet Eagle."
Alvina did a curtsy. "I am very honoured to meet you both, Your Imperial Highness, Colonel.", she replied and then added, before Dad could continue: "I am Alvina, Herzogin von Raycbucht, and if you were looking for good drink, you are at the right address with me."
I nodded. That was a true thing that she just said.

Gerulf von Sykane.
I would lie, if I were to claim, that my prospective involvement was not about the connection made, too, but that was the point, in this case: It was not only the connection, but also the honest will to finance research.
"That would be wonderful!", I said with a smile, "We might think of a better name, but that is not the important part right now. We'll share contact information later, to iron out everything, okay?"
Now, from the more pleasant part, we would soon come to business. Wasn't that, why we were here?

Of course, it was a joke - Shiruko barely criticized his desserts.

"Thank you very much," replied the prince and his wife successively to the statement of the native prince. They wanted to continue in the ballroom, but they met only two other people. It's about an older man, though his gray hair color made him probaly look older than he was. He wore a simple dress and tie, which made him unremarkable. The princely couple probaly seemed like a Christmas tree in contrast to him. Prince Nyyrikki had seen this man's face before and could identify him as foreign minister. The minister stood there with his wife and seemed to want to intercept the couple.
"Good evening, lady, sir," said the prince, nodding.

Zyng, The Großkleckserl Archipelagos, The Principality of Teressien
Enroute to Schloss Zyng

While neither Prince Philippe or Princess Maria had traveled often, already being in an automobile en route to the Prince’s Ball was quite off-putting. It was still rare, if not impossible, to see anyone use a car in Rivienland as horse-drawn coaches were still in use. Still, while there were some differences between Rivienland and Teressien, the brother and sister both knew they would eventually settle in once around fellow aristocrats.

“Well,” Maria stated while holding her arm out the automobile’s window, “we can at least be thankful for nice weather tonight.”

“Indeed,” responded Philippe. “I am quite looking forward to dancing tonight. I have read that Teressien is known for its music, and I would be interested in seeing the famous Schloss Zyng. Besides, the balls within Rivienland were becoming too predictable.”

“I guess, but at least the men there were proper Catholic Rivienlanders,” Maria sneered. “Who knows what kind of people will be attending this gathering!”

“Listen,” Philippe grasped Maria’s hand, “I know how much you dislike the world outside Rivienland, but Lou was right sending us here. Rivienland cannot hope to stay isolated forever. While I also wish for our lands not to change, I can still see the benefits of having us traveling the world. Perhaps the Principality of Teressien could become a close ally, and, if not,” he smirked, “we will get some free food out of it.”

As the car pulled up to Schloss Zyng, the impressive architecture immediately caught the Rivienlander’s attention. Emerging from their automobile, Princess Maria would be seen wearing a light pink ballgown (with a shorter train), and Prince Philippe would don a traditional dark tail coat, trousers and top hat. Approaching a couple, which they assumed were the hosts of the night, Maria could not stop from staring at the women’s outfit. She pondered how such a short skirt could be acceptable at a formal occasion.

“Good evening,” Philippe started in his broken German that had a heavy French accent, “Your Serenity.” He bowed before continuing, “I am Prince Philippe of Rivienland, and this is my sister, Princess Maria.”

“It is a pleasure to meet you both,” she said while curtsying, “and I look forward to taking part in this joyous event.”

“We both do,” continued Philippe, “and thank you for inviting us to your lovely country. I hope that tonight we may learn more about Teressien and form a closer bond between our two great nations.”

"Depends on your own likings, but generally, Raycbucht is known for its Pfefferminzlikör, which is a mixture of pure alcohol, clear water, sugar and mint-essences.", she explained, "Many different brands exist and are used for a variety of purposes, but if you want to drink it, I would recommend a brand known as Prinzenschreck. Simply one of the best brands."
I nodded in confirmation.

Folaisia wrote:He gives off a little chuckle as he watched Aaltje's playful slapping. Then, his eyes return to Bertram.

"Yeah, it is," Ruairi nodded. "A very emotional and meaningful one, at that. Though, it was a wee bit long-wited for my taste, if you don't mind me saying."

He then takes a sip from his glass.

"Speaking of which, was this film the first time that you've met her?"

Bertram Onekel.
I nodded. His criticism of Bahnhofsmädchen being a bit long was appreciated and, if I were honest, not entirely unfounded. It was a long movie.
Anyway...
"It was the first one, where I met her consciously, at least.", I said with a look to her, who she was thinking about the question, too. "Yes, I think, this was the first."
"Not the first time we were on film together, though.", Aaltje said, "I was an extra on Die Boilermänner." I looked at her puzzled. "The coffee house scene. It was the coffee house I worked in and they hired the staff in the entirety as extras. I ran around in the background while half of the production staff got their cameos, serving coffee and cake."
I nodded, smiling. "Now I remember, what you mean!", he said with a smile, "Funny little coincidence!"
Aaltje nodded.

Rivienland wrote:Zyng, The Großkleckserl Archipelagos, The Principality of Teressien

Enya Findehoof.
The next ones to approach were Prince Philippe and Princess Maria of Rivienland, a pair of siblings from a quite isolated little nation, which was known for being quite isolated and very Catholic. I saw, from a distance, that Maria was staring at my outfit, the merry ol' Tracht, and I admit, that I gave her ball gown a closer look, too.
It looked marvelous on her, but I doubted, that it would look half as good on me.
Anyway, they introduced themselves, Prince Philippe, speaking quite accented German, expressed his gratitude at being here and Alrich smiled.
He tried to speak Standard German, as Teressien could be sometimes difficult to understand, but a small smidgen still shone through. "I have to thank you for coming, Prince Philippe, as well as your sister.", he said and bowed his head, "I am Fürst Alrich, this is my date for tonight, Miss Enya Findehoof."
I made a curtsy. "It's a great pleasure to meet you, Your Majesties.", I said, trying for Standard German, too.
"I hope, that we will have a chance to talk more later tonight.", Alrich added, smiling first at Philippe, then at Marie, "And maybe even for a dance?"

"Indeed.", I said and nodded, smiling. I shared the sentiment about getting hungry from all the food-talk and to be honest, I did not want to, because I had a bit of a sweet tooth...
"Then let's change the topic before we devour the entire buffet before its time.", Vin said with a smile, then turned to Shiruko: "I remember you saying, that you had a keen interest in motorcycles - ever tried out HMW?"
I knew, that Vin was more into cars then motorcycles, but motor vehicles were motor vehicles in my book.

The topic shifted towards motorcycles - especially Shiruko appreciated this change, for it didn't make people more hungry.
She said, "I'm into motorcycles a lot, but also into cars! Now, I have yet to try HMW, but I've heard about their good reputation and quality. My nickname for her is Sabakuko, 'Child of the Desert', due to her excellent performance during the Desert Races in Ulaanels, Sharulsi Khanate. The racecourse for the pros, you see?"
Kyouko grinned. "As you can see, Shiruko needs the challenge!" - she said.
"Absolutely! I've already tested various bikes, but also cars, made by Mowela and SAK, for these aren't uncommon in Shikonjima, especially not the ones from the 1970s and 1980s, where we had our little crisis." 'Little' crisis was a blatant understatement, describing the economic crisis in Shikonjima as a result of multiple colonies gaining independence. "And a Najibuliha N-36 Saroukh, of 1986 vintage. These were the common vehicles to see on our streets before Morimoto became a thing. But as I said, I yet have to test a HMW. Any specific model you can recommend?"

Jolene Gudfrey in conversation with the Von Sykane's

Jolene smiled still as Rena proposed a location for a lunch date at a local Kaffeehaus. Jolene held a pet peave for a good cup of cofee, so unsurprisingly the coffee house culture here intrigued her to no small measure.

The deal was sweetened when Gerulf mentioned a private back room where business could be discussed. Thus the line was thrown, Gerulf was indeed interested in doing business, and since expanding her operations was her main objective in attending this ball, she was as happy as can be. She responded swiftly "Oh Mrs von Sykane, that sounds perfect! Consider it a date then, and much gratitude for being my guide on this adventure! And Mr von Sykane, you intrigue me with the mention of discussing business... You have my full attention!"

Schloss Zyng, Grand Ball Room.

Right outside of the ballroom, a brown-haired young man and a young blonde woman faced each other-the former in the clean and spotless grey uniform of the Reichswehr, a sabre hanging from his belt, and the latter in a white ballgown. The latter looked especially nervous and uncomfortable.
One could easily mistake them for a husband and wife.
Unfortunately, it was worse than that.

"Alright, Erika..." started the man. "This is your first dance. Your debut, or whatever it's called, I'm not sure myself. Don't sweat it. Remain calm, don't curse, and you ought to be fine. Just exercise basic courtesy, alright?"

"But Berengar, I...I've never been to one of these before! How do I know what to do, which spoon to use, all of that-"

Berengar-yes, that Berengar, of the House of Hohenzollern-Jagiellon-cut off his companion's spluttering. "I'll walk you through it. Don't sweat it." He grinned. "Besides, you're Erika Byrnes. You survived Iraq and the shenanigans of a bunch of bored ex-Fallschirmjaegers, you'll survive this."
"A-alright..."
She held on to his arm as they entered. Berengar bowed briefly to the Prince of Teressien. "Guten abend, ihre Majestat...und..."
He paused briefly, his mind drawing a blank upon seeing his...wife? His lover?
"...Es tut mir leid. Wie heißen Sie?"

Erika gave a rather clumsy curtsy after him. "Good e-evening sir-I mean-ah."
Her cheeks flushed to a bright red, and she started again. "Good evening, Your Majesty..."

Maria nodded at Fürst Alrich’s request, “I would be honored, Your Serenity.” Though the Princess found the Prince’s request quite polite, she still did not find him quite attractive. Perhaps it was the fact that he was too tall for her.

On the contrary, Philippe found the Prince quite handsome, and thought Miss. Findehoof was quite a lucky girl. Waiting for Maria’s reply, Philippe remarked, “I would be glad to learn more about you, Prince Alrich, and your fine country. But,” Philippe said as he bowed once more, “we will not keep you. Until later, Your Serenity.”

Giving a moment for Maria to curtsy once more, the siblings left the Prince and Miss. Findehoof to greet other guests. Once out of ear range, Maria, whispering in French, remarked, “Did you hear how that girl referred to us as ‘Your Majesties’? I would think as someone who is dating the Prince of Teressien would know to address us as ‘Your Royal Highness’.”

Taking a moment to glance if anyone was nearby, Philippe joked, “I would not judge her so much. Do you not remember your first few balls? Or, should I remind you when you incorrectly addressed Prince Alexandre at the Bassompierre Ball last winter? Now,” Philippe motioned to the table of refreshments, “how about you get something to drink while I talk with other guests? I think we spent enough time chatting together on the way here.”

“Very well,” Maria agreed. Approaching the table of refreshments, the Princess was hoping to have a glass of wine before the dancing begun. Philippe, on the other hand, decided to roam the ballroom looking for others to converse with.

Rena, Prinzessin von Wißenthen. By the Refreshments Table.
To be quite frank... balls were not my favourite way to pass time, but they were not bad.
The nibbles were good and the drinks cool. Dancing was fun, too, although the classical music they usually played was not entirely my cuppa tea.
Anyway, I am a redhead, with red-brown eyes, an inheritance from my Mother, lean and muscled, not exactly busty, but I had something to work with - not much, but the lads, who could not keep their eyes up, could kiss my arse anyway!
I wore a dress, which was a bit unusual for me, but proper. I was not a girly girl. It was a form-fitting red dress, which emphasized my hair, shoulderless, going down to the ground, the bodice hinting at a cleavage, but not showing much, except, that there was something.
Sunna wore the playful dress, but she was somewhere roaming around the hall with Mother and her Date for tonight, Rainer Kistmacker, our Minister for Health - hardly appropriate for the Herzogin of the Wißenthenland, but Kistmacker was a good man. And his wife couldn't come because she fell ill, so he had asked Mother if they couldn't attend together.
It had actually been quite cute.
Anyway, I stood at the Refreshments Table, waiting for the fun to begin, with a glass of Lemonade in hand. The table also held the nibbles, or at least a part of them (there was a second one on the other side of the Ball Room). The wine would be brought out after the dancing began, as with all alcohol, but... if one needed one, there were ways.
And one way was to have connections.
I saw someone fun-looking approaching, a young woman around my age (I would guess) in a light pink dress, which looked quite hard to move in (then again, who was I to talk?) and she came towards the Refreshments Table as if she was looking for something.
"They'll bring out the wine after the first dance.", I told her with a small, lopsided smile, "Other then that, I would recommend the Onion-Nibbles." I indicated to the small, muffin-like nibbles of flaky pastry, which were filled with a mixture of bacon, onion, cream, egg and caraway and scalloped with cheese. They were quite spicy and delicious. "I'm Rena. Who do I have the pleasure with?"

Folaisia wrote:Ruairi grinned along with Bertram before taking another sip.

Bertram Onekel.
"Thank you very much.", Aaltje said with a grin, then smiled at me from the side. "I asked him, because, well... we were both invited and he was still looking, so..." She shrugged. "I'm single, he's a widower, so I decided to ask him."
I nodded.
"Yes, that sounds about right.", I said and nodded again, "Of course, when I was around your age, I would not have dared to approach a woman as beautiful as Aaltje... I can not claim, that it got better over the years."
Aaltje giggled. It sounded cute.

Polish Prussian Commonwealth wrote:Schloss Zyng, Grand Ball Room.

Enya Findehoof.
And the next ones came, this time a young man in a bit of a dashing uniform, sabre at his side, with a young woman in a white dress, who looked quite uncomfortable and nervous.
Yep, that had been me in 2016, when Grandmother conned Alrich and me into being dates for that one ball... I can't complain.
It also looked a bit as if he was her older brother leading his younger sister to the altar. Or a wedding in general. It also looked adorable.
Alrich was still smiling about the siblings from Rivienland. He would be certain not to miss the opportunity of speaking with the Prince and while he did note, that his sister would not be jumping in joy at his offer, he would make sure, to make the dance worth her time. Who knew, maybe I could get her older brother on the dance floor with me as well?
We'll see.
Anyway, they came before us, bows were exchanged as well as greetings, and Alrich kissed the back of the young woman's hand, as it was proper. The clumsy curtsy was quite adorable, too.
"Enya Findehoof, Your Royal Highness.", I replied to the inquiry, speaking Teressian-accented German, "It is a great honour to meet you, Prince Berengar."
"Indeed, thank you for being here tonight.", Alrich said with a small smile, then bowed slightly and apologetically. "Although I must confess to a similar problem with the Young Lady at Your side..."
