The Three United Empires used to have an Empress; an Empress in whom many fanatical citizens placed both their loyalty and faith. The cult following had little effect on the overall productivity of the empire – in fact, more citizens were inspired to work harder. It was an age of prosperity and enlightenment. Over time, the Empress amassed an exorbitant amount of power; which wasn’t an issue until her family broke out in in-fighting. What happens when the most powerful family starts fighting among themselves? They wipe themselves out. The Empress had died.
The problem was that the citizens wouldn’t believe it at first. The Empress had died before and had come back. It was almost a cycle in and of itself. The nation kept functioning as if nothing had happened, save for a few more sermons about how she would return.
…but she didn’t.
Over a hundred years, once generations had passed that remembered what the Empress had been like, that faith started to waver. Civil war broke out between those who were faithful and believed in her return, and those who wanted a new leader. Eventually, it led to a tenuous compromise. DNA would be tested by the government and compared to their archives to find any possible relatives of the Empress’ bloodline, Shentavo. Out of those that were found, a leader would be selected by government officials as well as the Empire’s current and potential allies.
As an ally (or influencing citizen) of the illustrious Three United Empires of Ravelyn Shentavo, you are invited to Somerset Capital for the selection of our next Empress/Emperor. You will have three days to determine who is fit to rule, weed out the lies from the truths, and potentially form everlasting bonds (and influence) over the future successor. The choices that you make, who you choose to speak with and/or vote for will have lasting repercussions. Below is what your chosen character’s intelligence has returned to them, but is not public knowledge by all guests in attendance.
Dossier: Charmaine Locke
Species: Hybrid
Charmaine is said to have DNA that traces back to Quissera Shentavo; the son of the Empress. Unfortunately, Quissera went mad during the war and ended up killing six other members of the bloodline. The populace see Charmaine's heterochromia as definitive proof that she is Quissera's descendant and therefore a descendant of the Empress.
It's unclear if she truly wants the throne, or has just shown up because she is expected to show up.
*Charmaine is said to have some issues with her temper.
Dossier: Halvar
Species: Human
Halvar is the only human among the number of potentials. As the Shentavo line had mythically sourced vitae, it's highly unlikely that Halvar would be a true decendant of the Empress. He's well liked, great at negotiating, and not too rough on the eyes either - which could make him a good leader if you ignore the probability for another civil war due to some still being faithful to the Empress. He is also the only male of the group (which is fine by him), but Shentavoans are a matriarchal empire, and this could work against him.
*Halvar is said to be somewhat of a flirt.
*Questionable DNA results/tampering
Dossier: Deliverance Dane
Species: Hybrid
Deliverance Dane never thought she was related to the Empress' line. She didn't really care; she was a traveller by nature and her wanderlust brought her many places. Intelligent, patient, and calculating, she would make a shrewd ruler. Unfortunately she lacks passion in her speeches and is quite blasé about threats. When you have lived that long, the world begins to lose its shine. She is thought to be the descendant of Kenja, daughter of the Empress.
*Deliverance is said to be in a committed relationship with drugs and alcohol.
*Socially awkward at times
Dossier: Eloanne Versai
Species: Mage
Elloane Versai is well rounded. She served in the military for six years as infantry. Shrapnel wounds left her with one leg which has recently been placed with a high quality prosthetic.
Her DNA results had a trace of the Shentavo DNA possibly acquired by an ancestor via ingestion. Her ancestry was traced back to Genesis Versai and Jeremy Witz - the advisor to the Empress and an emissary from an allied nation. No one is certain how she got Shentavo DNA in her genetic code, but it's there. She carries the abilities of her ancestor as a mage, also limited in the areas Genesis was limited in.
*Levelheaded
*Possibly too trusting
OOC: It’s been a long time. I remember starting in NationStates over a decade ago, at a time when my grasp of the language was not at it’s greatest. Reading old threads makes me cringe a little now, but without the forum experience of refreshing the page at 1am waiting for individuals long since gone to post, I wouldn’t have been able to grow with my style of writing as well. This is my first thread out of retirement. All are welcome to Join.
This is a character based RP. This means that you create a character to play in the scenario rather than forces at large. This allows you to focus on the representation of your nation (or a Shentavoan citizen if you desire) and their growth arc rather than large scale logistics. You can develop a unique personality and potentially end up having an extremely prominent influence on the direction of the nation and its characters/citizens.
By signing up you are committed to quality writing preferably longer than one sentence. Make sure that your posts add something to the story rather than just ‘nods head’.
1. Any character that is any race/species from your own nation is appropriate, as long as they do not brood in the corner of the room for the entirety of the time
2. You can play an influencer in my nation, if you desire. You can either play a purist – a cultist still faithful to the empress who may be looking to sabotage the selection – or is begrudgingly going along with it to avoid another civil war. You can play a normal politician who just may get lucky and become an advisor to whomever is selected. You can play some guy who got in simply because someone else dropped a ticket.
There is no established cannon ending. The ending is determined by player choices, interactions, and which candidate the characters support. There are different potential outcomes for each of the candidates. The outcome will have an impact on future RP threads, etc. The goal is to seat one of these four individuals as the leader after a long absence/death of the previous Empress. Which one of these four have not been determined; it will be up to the participants to make that decision.
