Come one, come all, to the 2019 Spring Festival of Cuan in the Free Lands of the Selkie!
This year, the City of Cuan and the Cabhair Group invites you to celebrate with us not only the beginning of the year, the end of winter and the collective birthday of all Selkie, but also the Bainis - the holy marriage of the Envoy of Lodan Lir to the God of Sea and Rivers.
But not only religious ceremonies will be held, we also have an exciting itinerary of events planned for the day, the 20th of March, 2019 - from concerts to an air show over the Imeall, from a tournament of the Marcach to an exhibition of the Younger Militia of Cuan. In addition to that, the usual traveling merchants and tramps, hawkers and peddlers will be present, plus concessionaires from all corners of the Free Lands.

Cuan is a small city, approximately ten thousand people living in the city and the surrounding villages. The city is where the Mór-River and the Cuas-River meet to form the Imeall-River.
As a premier location as a harbour for all the rivermen coming down from Ferrydock or Lake Mór, or going up there from the Great Sea, the town enjoys wealth to this day, coming in major parts from its harbour, which is still in use, with wooden barges and some of steel. Bád Industries Limited has its main facilities and headquarters in Cuan, while Gabha Motorworks has a manufactory inside of the city, which makes the city a bit famous in some circles.
Cuan is also famous for its archers and the High Bridges, seven large bridges spanning the three rivers along major streets, hence its reputation as one of the strategically most important cities in the Free Lands. Fought over several times in the past, Cuan knew many different lords and ladies, while the earliest settlements were dated back to 7,500 B.C. by archaeologists.

Tourist hotspots are Láir Square, a square of roughly four hectare in the centre of the city, with the Lodan Lir Temple of Cuan and the accompanying school, the Historic City Hall and the Ropaire Inn, one of the most renown inns in the Free Lands. Thanks to a grassy centre, where on market day livestock is traded, the Láir Square is usable as a tournament field and was used as such before (and most likely will be used as such in the future).
Another tourist hotspot is the Old City Wall and the Three Bastions, which secured the city from attacks from the north. Although the Bastions were converted to museums, displaying a varying amount of topics, they are still famous landmarks. One of the most visited permanent exhibitions is about the Crusade of 1299, which was stopped at the Battle of Cuan in 1300, originals from back then are on display.
The Old University is another tourist hotspot, especially with the Old Library.
Several other smaller tourist hotspots exist as well.
Most of the roads are cobbled, but several side-roads and courtyards have wooden paving. Besides the harbour and several highways leading to and from the city, there is also a small regional airport, including one for floatplanes, which can easily be accessed.
Cuan has a relatively large regional hospital, a major police station and is garrison town of the I. Squadron, 5th Dragan-Regiment.

Inns in and around Cuan
Note: Due to the religious festivities associated with the Bainis, many of the larger inns are already booked out. Remaining options include, but are not limited to:

- Camping: Four fields outside of town were cleared for more adventurous campers and their tents. The Younger Militias are operating field kitchens. We do, however, recommend to stay away from the camps of the Orders.
- Gléas Inn: The Gléas Inn is an inn at the southern edge of town, with good beds and decent food, as well as decent prices.
- Stoc Inn: The Stoc Inn is famous mainly for one thing: It's Band. The beds, food and prices are average, but the house-own band is seen as one of the best bands in a Selkie-Inn.
- The Laoch Inn: The Laoch Inn, one of the regular haunts of the local SDF-Garrison, is a good and decent house, with a good band and good brews, as well as good food. The beds aren't too comfortable, though.
- The Raithneach Village Inn: The Raithneach Village Inn in Raithneach is, as the name suggests, the village inn. Being fourteen kilometres from Cuan's City Gates, we recommend coming with the own horses.
- The Báirse Inn: The Báirse Inn is not an inn in the strict sense of the word, but an accommodations vessel of the SDF. The beds are bad, the food decent, the price low. Good to stay in if you are on a budget.

Getting there
There are several major options of how to get to Cuan:

The easiest one would be to travel to Silverport International Airport and take either a small hopper from there to the Cuan Regional Airport or a train from Silverport Main to Cuan Main.
The most scenic would either be said train or the ferry from Silverport to Wembury and taking another one from along the coast to Béal, where the Imeall-River meets the sea. From there, another ferry to Cuan.
Another option would be from Silverport International to Fortham Regional Airport and the river-ferry down the Mór-River and to Cuan.
If you have the time and the spirit of adventure in you, you could also land in Silverport and make the trip to Cuan along the Feadhain Road, the old road connecting the cities of Olann, Cuan, Coill, Creetown, Bodmin and with it Lake Iasc, to which a ferry is always coming. That can be done either by foot, horse or cart.
If you book a flight to Traverse International, you'll have to take a small hopper to Cuan directly.
Of course, those are only the most easiest options and most fun ways to come to Cuan, the possibilities in and of itself are nearly limitless.

15:30 - Opening of the Tournament for the River's Crossing Trophy (estimated to end by 18:00).
16:00 - Exhibition of the Póraitheoir High School's Younger Militia Regiment, Middle Bastion.
17:00 o'clock: Opening of the Taps.

This year, there is a lot of things happening, again in lovely old Cuan: Mona Beag gets married to the God she is Envoy of, an air show happens, old friends meet, new lovers are confronted with the consequences of their actions - and the Gods know what else!

Sadly, the Tournament will not be open for foreign contestants, but Selkie-only. I would be happy about observers, though. ; )
If you wish for your character to be a concessionaire, talk to me about that beforehand on this OOC.

Having your characters as music-acts: Sadly not on the Music Stage on the Ceol Square. However, I am quite sure, that your characters can find a nice spot to play music in the inns and taverns around town, maybe jamming with fellow musicians - let's see, what we can do.
"17:00 o'clock: Opening of the Taps." - You will not be able to acquire alcohol before that, as no restaurant, store or inn will serve/sell you anything. However, drinking is permitted. If you want your character/s to commit to drunken debauchery... that would certainly be interesting.

Sadly, however, we need...

1 – No Godmodding, Meta-Gaming or other such nonsense.

1-1 – If such a case comes to your attention, bring it to general attention here and we will take care of that here.
1-2 – ALL Selkie-NPCs are controlled by me, mostly due to cultural particularities. No exceptions.

2 – I am the OP, my word is law. I reserve the right to add to this list of rules or to amend rules if necessary.
3 – IC on the IC-thread, OOC on the OOC-thread. The OOC-thread is there to be used.
4 – Permitted Characters:

4-1 – No high government or military officials. The only exception to that rule is Port Ember, mostly because his character, which he will (hopefully ; )) send has private business to attend to. Other then that exception, this is a festival for normal people to enjoy, not a state ball. No other exceptions.
4-2 – Keep in mind, that your characters are under the right and law of the Free Lands. That includes a total ban on all firearms in private hands (and your people will be there as private persons, end of discussion). If I catch anyone posting anything about his characters having firearms in any form, he or she will be mauled to death by rabid Tines. And no, there will be no escape. No exceptions.
4-3 – Appearance of your characters, a.k.a. Valid Passport Photo. Please choose pictures, that are SFW and where your character is easily identifiable. Anime-Pictures are allowed, but are under the same restrictions. You can also write a description of him or her. And it does not have to be a passport photo.
4-4 – Non-Humans. Non-Human Humanoids are permitted, the rest is not. Magic... consult with me beforehand, but prepare to be limited to the lightest of the light. No exceptions.
4-5 – You have to provide an RP-sample (a link to a RP you participated in, from the account you are applying with, showing how you interact with other players, not a post written on the fly) and answer the question “Have you read and understood the rules?” with “Cry Havoc and let slip loose the fuzzy beasts of war!” No exceptions.

5 – No murders. Violence only if all involved agree to it.

5-1 - Security. Will be provided by the Free Lands, if needed by rabid Tine. If you feel the need for your character to have a bodyguard or someone of that kind, it's most likely a break of Rule 4-1.

6 – No military actions, declarations of war or similar stuff.
7 – Try to avoid oneliners. I know, that it can't be avoided sometimes, but please put a bit of effort into this RP.
8 – When the IC starts, all characters accepted up to that point start on the Láir Square watching the Spring Sacrafice. I don't want to go through the whole shebang of arrivals at airport/port/whatever and so on. No exceptions.

Oh perhaps I should add, few in AHSCA Government have much power to negotiate in foreign affairs so not as though anyone could walk up to her and ask for anything. Best she could ever say is "I'll refer it to Her Majesty, To Lady Vino Cocao or Madam Pacifica. She won't have any security details or anything and doesn't need any diplomatic treatment. So ya know no need to seal off a hotel or city block just for her.

She's interested in just about anything it's her first time traveling to the Freelands and she's here to be a tourist rather than any kind of work related tasks. She wants to have fun.
