Greetings, nations of the world! The Democratic Republic of Steovania, a moderate sized nation home to 48 million inhabitants ruled by a democratically elected Parliament, is seeking to expand it’s foreign trade and partnerships across international boundaries in the hopes of forging ties with what the world has to offer. For much of modern history Steovania has relied on protectionist policies and a domestic financial focus to guide its economy, but over the past five years the Democratic Republic has struggled to achieve substantial growth in GDP and median income. The nation’s unemployment rate sits at 12.3% and is higher for the Steovania’s ethnic minorities. With a largely stagnant economy in the midst of a recession, the Parliament earlier this week struck down several provisions that barred major foreign investment in the hopes that international trade and corporate investment could kickstart the economy back into gear.
Steovania’s two biggest sectors, industrial manufacturing and financial services, have both suffered losses in the past few years, with total national income dropping by 13% and industrial production levels at their lowest in 20 years. Both of these sectors of the economy would be prime targets for foreign enterprises hoping to tap into the Steovanian market. Any corporation hoping to become involved in Steovania will of course have to negotiate with Steovanian labor unions, who have already been on record stating they won’t allow good and honest Steovanian workers to be exploited by foreign corporate interests. Nevertheless, Steovania’s labor force of 26 million people is eager for work, and a savvy company can expect to find productive measures in the country.
Those wishing to become involved in Steovania are welcome to contact Bojidar Lubomirov Strashilov, Minister of Trade, where the Ministry Headquarters is located in the capital of Kiskunbátor.
The Steovanian government is hopeful that a resurgent economy could help alleviate the growing unease felt around the country. The stagnant economy has threatened to bring back to life the normally subversive tensions with Steovania’s ethnic minorities, and there is concern that the nation may descend into political instability, a dangerous precedence with the much larger United Socialist States of Alnaxia still a threat.
