Kiana

The patrons who were seated at the bar, along with Georgie, cheered loudly to Kiana's toast - beating the counter - and taking bug gulps from their drinks. Georgie replied "Lassie - i mean absolutely no insult to ye, it seems to me that yer a lass that can take care of yerself - so please I mean no offence - just an old man trying to remember his roots and chivalry, same way i taught me boys.. But during yer stay in PE, no matter where ye end up - if anyone on tis' ere island gives ya gripe - mention to that bastards that Georgie O'Malley has accepted ye as Kin! That's my bond lassie." -another tavern round applause and swigs-

Caja. O'Malley's, with Tim.
Caja would have nothing against leading this conversation along the lines of her telling something about her homeland, Lake Mór was beautiful this time of the year, but if Tim offered...
"Tell me everything you believe, that I should know!", she asked, curiosity making her eyes shine like rubies.

Kiana. O'Malley's, at the bar.
Kiana didn't hold it against the old gentleman - in fact, she found it sweet.
A little part in the back of her head thought, that he have ulterior motives, like trying to set her up with his son, but... maybe that was just her being paranoid.
"Thank you, Sir.", she said and raised her glass as well, grinning, "I can defend myself, and so can Caja, but it's always nice to have a nice spot."
And to have a powerful name backing you., she added in her mind.

Well that's hard since it's a very open question.. But if ye insist.. Don't qoute me on this, it's not written anywhere by them smart scholars.. But I believe that there is like three sub-cultures in PE. We all have the basic same culture and believes, but there is small differences. I classify them myself as Docks Culture, Blue Blood Culture and Farmer Culture..

Docks Culture is what you see here.. We are hard working film with close family ties. We are a bit.. savage of I can call it that.. But we are passionate about life and do not care about other's opinions. Work hard play hard and such.

Blue Blood Culture is more.. civilised. Very well educated and chivalrous. It's the kind of folk who got rich with trade and industry, using their wits and silver tounges to make it in life. They like the finer things in life as they call it.

Farmer Culture can be found mostly on the southern island. Most farms are located there. They have very steong bonds with nature and family. They are also the most religious. We city folk ain't really that hardcore religious.

But we are more alike than different. We believe in freedom and trade. Work hard and earn a very comfortable life.."

Kevin Lee

With the joyfull chaos and mid day party raging no one truly noticed Kevin Lee entering the tavern and taking a seat at a table. With Georgie realising his mistake - he immediately send his waitress over to his table.

Claire a smallish young girl (1.5m), with long blonde hair and sparkly blue eyes, aged 20, was a very beautifull young girl. Her beautifull looks combined with her overjoyfull personality and naive nature, always turned heads.. and the passions of men where ever she went. Yet no one ever did anything more than have a good look.. locals knew she was the neice of Georgie O'Malley. And locals knew better to mess with the O'Malley clan. She was waitering at Georgie's tavern part time.

Claire quickly walked to Kevin's table with a beer and menu in hand. As she walked passed the table where Tim was seated - she gave a quick "Hiya Tim!" shout. She put the large beer glass on Kevin's table and spoke quite loudly due to the loud music playing "Hi!" Massive smile "Welcome to O'Malley's tavern stranger! Were sorry for not seein ya - heres a beer on the house to make up! and heres ya menu. Please be carefull, theres broken glass shards everywhere! Place will settle down in a bit.." She looked at her patron smiling and started walking away "just shout when ya need me darlin'!"

Kevin returned the smile and took the menu with a polite "Thank you ma'am."
As he nursed his beer he looked around the bar and noticed what he assumed were two Selkie tourists. He knew of the Selkies since he actually had come into Port Ember on a Selkie made cargo ship and as such he usually familiarized himself with those types of people. Unfortunately for them he was a fairly quiet type outside of business since he had learned long ago that illicit business and alcohol does not mix. Especially when you're in a public setting where everyone is a microphone for the federal/government agents. As such he stayed focused on the menu and beer in his hands. After a while he smiled and hailed down Claire.

"Miss, could I please get the fish and chips?"

Claire brought Kevin's Fish and chips meal after a few minutes. The atmosphere clearly has affected her mood and was swinging her hips as she walked. "Here ye go kind sir! Hope ye enjoy it!" She smiled widely. As she walked away, she did so in a dancing walk manner - her long blonde hair swinging all over the show.

Orcadian Embassy

Three Secret Service Agents were manning the main entrance at the Orcadia Embassy, and honestly - they were quite pissed about it. They... disliked Orcadians in general due to their history.. and now they were forced to gaurd their embassy and Ambassedor for the intrim. However, they were professionals and would not for ine second show the world their personal feelings or emotions. When the Diplomatic Jag pulled up to the gate, two agents had their hands gently on their Service Rifle's triggers. Nothing serious.. just protocol. The unarmed agent approached the vehicle and took the documents from the driver. A message came through his earpiece "yup were expecting her. She's a go." The agent greeted in a friendly manner and the gate opened.

With the gate open penny turned to the guards "Thanks, He's also with me, he's my lift back home" she says pointing to Evan with her thumb before driving carefully inside, she did think about planting the loud pedal on the gravel but decided not to do that, Evan too follows Penny into the compound.

As she got out of the car and pulled herself to her feet, (not easy with a cybernetic arm and 2 cybernetic legs), however once on her feet she made her way over to her father who was standing by the doorway as Evan was also parking up, the first thing Nick did was put his arms around Penny in a way only a father ever does as Evan was walking iver, he too got a hug in the way that a father would meet his son, even though Evan is an in-law being Penny's wife.

"you guys have a good trip, in fact come in and I will treat you to a drink, coffee?" he asks

Penny and Evan didn't get to answer for a coffee was on the way, no iffs no butts!

"So Penny, we have the prime minister coming tomorrow to open this place, and there will be press present, grand opening is mid day once the security detail arrives to take over from the locals, then we have a banquet with the president i think, I will have to have a look at the itinary, but as you can see this place is pretty grand" states Nick in a happy, pleasant tone, he hopes some how that he may ne able to change the views of the locals but time will tell

O'Malley's Tavern - Kevin Lee

Kevin smiled into his pint while Claire walked away swinging her hips suggestively. Although no one knew it, he wasn't looking for any company at the moment. He had learned long ago that company usually meant headaches when he was on business. As such he picked up his knife and fork and dug into the fish and chips.

The fish and chips were good. The fish was some type of white fish with a heavy batter and the chips were thick but well cooked. As Kevin started to eat, he picked up a packet of ketchup and mayonnaise and mixed them together for his chips. While he ate a couple fries he took that moment to feign dropping a napkin so he could get a better bearing of his surroundings. Reaching down he glanced around at everyone in the bar.

O'Malley's Tavern
Kevin Lee

As Kevin Lee was "scoping out" the tavern, this is what he might have noticed:

- The owner and barman Georgie O'Malley. A muscular old man with grey hair.

- The waitress known as Claire, whom Kevin knows of by now.

- One table seated by two - a young man with black hair. Nothing truly outstanding (Tim the Taxi Driver), seated in conversation with a beautifu red headed Selkie women.

- At the bar seated, a beautifull blonde Selkie women.

- 5 muscular young men all dressed in a similar fashion (Brown leather boots, faded jeans, black golfshirts and light brown peakcaps). They were very loud and busy. Currently two of them is caught in an arm wrestling match, with the rest spectating.

- The bar is littered with broken glass bottles. There is a strong aroma of rum filling the air.

- loud folk rock music is playing over the speakers.

Caja. O'Malley's, with Tim.
Caja listened with great interest, three subcultures, at least in Tim's mind: Farmers, Docks and Blue Bloods, one down to earth religious, one 'uncivilized', as Tim called it, the last being the 'civilized' one, contrary to either.
Docks and Farmers sounded the most relatable to her, strangely enough - Selkie were simple people, farmers living with the Steady Rhythm of seeding and growing and harvesting and fallow, they were hard workers and they were religious. The Blue Bloods... well, education was important for the Selkie, but that was about it, judging by Tim's words.
"And what about history?", she asked her Taxi Driver through this country.

Kiana. O'Malley's, at the bar.
Seeing that the boys were currently more occupied by themselves, Kiana bowed her head slightly to James' father and then took a swig. She, too, didn't notice Lee scoping out the bar, but if she would have, she wouldn't have minded.
Clair was cute, though.
"Say, Sir...", she began cautiously, "...since when do you have this wonderful establishment? Or is it family-owned for generations?"

O'Malley's Tavern
Caja with Tim

Before Tim could awnser Caja, Claire arrived at their table all happy and bubbly. Her good mood made her blue eyes sparkle and her skin was almost radient. Nothing could wipe her big smile off her face. She was armed with two large ice cold beers. She put one down in front of Caja and the other in front of Tim.

"Hiya lassie!" She waved a small hand wave and flashed a large smile at Caja. "Hiya Timmy!" She bent forward and gave Tim a small kiss on his cheek. "Sorry for not greetin ya yet - its a madhouse today!" She giggled softly. "Anyway beer's on the house." She walked happily back to the bar.

Tim took a deep swig of his fresh cold beer. "Aye.. history. Liky any nation's history, there's a ton! So a quick summary yeah?

Ember islands had a kingdom named the Ember Kingdom.. but it was not really a kingdom. The land was in a constant state of civil war. They never truly prospered or grew.. so when the Orcadians pitched up, the kingdom was torn a new one.. so overnight the island became an Orcadian colony.

Traders and sea folk from all over the world moved here in search of prosperity. This quickly led to an era of piracy and smuggling. The Orcadian masters did not do much to stop it. Until one day a new governer arrived and decided that piracy must end.. so he took a well known pirate captain - let 20 of his soldiers beat and rape her in public snd finally burned her to death. That lass was named Lilly Black. This led to all remaining pirates and smugglers to band together and the governer and all his soldiers were killed.

So the victorious pirates and smugglers started the Copperbeard Consortuim, and they ruled these islands for over a hundred years! They were the scourge of all 'civilised' sea faring nations. So the Orcadians managed to defeat the pirates after a hundred years - and reclaimed the islands as their colony. A period of grade trade commenced here and the islands started its time of becoming rich..

So after the second world war, the islanders had enough of having masters.. so they threatend Orcadia (again) with full scale rebellion and piracy and burning the trade ports.. so they gave in and here we are! Free lads and lasses 70 years later." Tim took another deep swig of beer.

Georgie smiled. He loved it when his tavern was complimented. "Aye lassie - my great great Grandpa' build this place lil' over 200 years ago. Always bin in the O'Malley clan. You'd notice that 80% or more businesses on these islands are family businesses. Well all the successfull ones anyway. However not sure how long this tavern will remain in the famly' - with those two dickheads intent on gettin killed on some foreign rock instead of servin' some good arse beer!" He shook his head in dissaproval, yet smiled softly. He was still proud of his boys

Caja. O'Malley's, with Tim.
"Thanks.", Caja said to Claire, smiling slightly and taking a sip.
She was not much of a beer drinker, but it was very good. And it did wonders in this heat...
She listened to Tim's quick summary: Former colony, made itself independent, former masters didn't like that, or the pirate haven on their doorstep, and then began to reconquer, WW2, things got hectic, and the made themselves independent again - this time, fully.
The histories of Port Ember and the Free Lands were not exactly alike... not even remotely.
In any case, she wondered: "And what are the relations like to the Orcadians today?"

Kiana. O'Malley's, at the bar.
"They'll come around, eventually.", she replied to Georgie with a smile on her lips, but sadness in her eyes. She suppressed a sigh. "You know, the company I work for, the Mangaire Dealership Company, is a family business, too, very much like the company we closely work with. Gabha Blacksmiths."
She powered on.
"They can trace themselves and the family back at least into the 16th century, one of the first manufactories in the Free Lands, and one of the best.", she said and took a sip.

Orcadian Embassy

After being handed a warm drink each, Penny turned to Nick, "We have to visit a place later on to see about work, I have a work lead"

"you have, thats good, well tomorrow is gonna be busy Penn"

"yeah I have heard on the radio"

Wallace came over and started circling around Penny's feet meowing as Evan made his way back to the R730 that had been parked next to the diplomatic jag and returned with Tiswas as Penny picked up Wallace. "bloody hell cat, you're getting fat" she says, Wallace just looks at Penny and lets out a meow!

Nick then takes Penny and Evan through into the main part of the building and are followed almost immediately by Wallace and Tiz where they are then shown the interior. "Looks like the grand staircase of the Titanic that does Nick" comments Evan

"yep. classy is it not?" answers Nick.

"yep, although We have a busy day ahead of us, with the work contact this afternoon then immigration later on to deal with our visas" says penny.

"leave that to me, I will see what I can do, just get the job and I will see if I can do it from the Embassy" says Nick.

"Thanks" replies Penny as she along with Evan, "right Evan, lets go to Gudfrey's after picking up the trailer"

After that, Penny and Evan head back out to the carpark, Evan scooping up Tiswas before heading out to the truck. It wasn't long before Evan was behind the wheel, AC cranked up mainly for the comfort of Penny and radio blasting out some dance music, once out of the Embassy gates Evan set course for home.

"feels humid outside" remaks Evan

"yeah, and its not comfortable at all, well lets get the trailer shifted off the road before locals get annoyed, the teamsters should just about be done now so they can have the final half of their wages" replies Penny, petting Tiswas as she talks and getting a massage off the seat.

Suburbia - Penny's house

Meanwhile at Penny's home...

The Teamsters just finished wity their tasks. The four muscular men was relaxing sitting on the front lawn. Their quite easy job did not take long or let them break a sweat. Easy money.

They relaxed, waiting for their employers to return for inspection and final payment.

"I see. So, the relations are getting more and more normal by the day..." She leaned back. "Wish I could say the same... if Selkie can do one thing better then riding horses, it's holding a grudge. And believe me, we are bloody good horsepeople."
She shrugged.
"Ask the Lutettiians...", she added.

Kiana. O'Malley's, at the bar.

Port Ember Megalopolis Aerospace
Hauptmann Meyer
February 20th, 2019.

Dear Louise,

I can't say that our deployment's been all that smooth so far. The old boys in first platoon have been getting rather lazy ever since they got the news that their "grand deployment" would simply be to our embassy in Port Ember. Oh, who can blame them? They're most likely just going to get used to the weather. I doubt we're going to accomplish much work in that burning sun down there. Oh, Louise, I'm so awfully excited. I hope the boys up in the intelligence service won't read this, but every time I close my eyes, I'm imagining I'm on a civilian aircraft down to the Bahamas, not on a C-130. This truly is a vaca

Meyer looked up. Opposite to him sat corporal Joachim Zarkowksi, a young and flamboyant team leader. He was snoring loudly, and disturbed the Hauptmann in his letter. Hauptmann Joseph thought about waking Zarkowski, but ended up not doing it, as other soldiers, most of whom were listening to music on their devices or had also fallen asleep, didn't have any problems with the corporal snoring. The Hauptmann put his pen and paper in his brown duffle bag, and looked up to the roof of the plane. He closed his eyes, and tried to fall asleep, thinking about actually stepping into the nice, hot sun.

Meyer slightly panicked, as he felt his body being shoved around for a second. He opened his eyes, and opposite to him sat the corporal, who also had a stunned expression on his face. Two men were quietly talking to eachother in the back, and the platoon had just woken up. The aircraft slowly came to a stop, and Joseph tried to get a good look at the airfield. He didn't get any intel on where they landed. He looked out, expecting some kind of military base, but saw that the Hannoverian grey C-130 had landed on a civilian airfield! He didn't know what to do, so he waited for the aircraft to stop, and hoped to God that the pilot would announce something over the intercom.

"Soldiers of the 1st Independent Interterritorial Rifle Platoon, pay attention. This is Oberst Hans Möhr speaking. A team of specialists will help you unload the Hercules, and you'll be escorted to the embassy with a military convoy. Just calmly sit there, boys, and enjoy the nice summer breeze as we open all doors. Do not leave the aeroplane till you get the order to do so. Thank you."

Some soldiers laughed, most smiled at one another, as Port Ember was just as great as they had envisioned it. The sun, the hot air, and the colourful buildings could all easily be spotted by the soldiers. The laughing died down eventually, and the troops were waiting for the convoy to come.

After waiting for a while, Hauptmann Jens Kermann came out of the cockpit, and started talking to captain Meyer. He informed him that the convoy had arrived, and that they were waiting outside of the aeroplane. Meyer thanked the co-pilot, and simply left the C-130 from one of the side exits. He walked down the stairs that were attached to the aircraft by the specialist company that was currently helping the platoon with getting their things out, and shortly after watching his steps so that he got down without falling, Joseph saw a Port Emberian officer walk in his direction, and gleefully reached out his hand to greet him, saying: "Hauptmann Joseph Georg Meyer. Glad to meet you!"

In Suburbia
It didn't take long for Penny and Evan to get through the traffic, Evan being used to Orcadian traffic knows how to get through it and so with Penny working as a spotter to see what is coming up the left hand side but soon a familiar sight, preceeded by the a familiar sound, the bark of a large V8 with twin rear mounted wide open-bore exhausts. Seeing the teamsters relaxing Evan gave a toot of the air horns before pulling in front of the now empty trailer where Penny climbed down and pulled out her wallet,
"right lets have a look at what y'all did" she says before going inside to check everything is as it should be.

It didn't take too long before she returned and called them all up, putting the rest of their earnings into paper envelopes where she would then hand one to each member, she also gave them a tip too, each member getting 25 Aurums each on top of the agreed wage. This, from an Orcadian too!, Penny then calls for a minibus to take them back to the office they came from to save them having to walk, she figured the heavens may be soon to open, yes these pair of Orcadians may be 2 that may be easy to live with.

Once the teamsters had been picked up, Penny turned to the job offer, opening the folder she then took out her phone and dialed the number then waited for the phone to be picked up.

"Oh, hello. Phenom Snyder here, I was wandering what you have got with regards to availability for a two-person driver team?" she asks

Tim smiled softly "I wont go as far to say.. normal. We will never truly accept them Salty's.. but we can tolerate. As long as they accept their place in the world - which is below Port Ember offcourse.." -chuckle- "Horses ey? We don't have those. Apparantly the Orcadians came with horses in th 1600's.. but we have quite a.. hostile island. Which is ironic if you look at this epitome of civilisation in the city.. but go to South Island, and you will see how wild this place really is..

Oooh the Lutettiians? Big bad wolves? Oh darlin do tell!" Tim was radiating with excitement and leaned slightly forward over the table so he could hear clearly..

"Ale drinkers, but me beer is good enough? I knew that I'm good!" Georgie laughed happily. He had a coarse deep laugh and voice. "Lilo Beer? Never heard.. I should import some.. for the sake of academic studies and such.." Georgie threw a wink "This Beer Lassie - is proudly made on me farm on South Island! O'Malley's Beer tis' called." Georgie pointed to his peakcap, which had an embroided logo in the center which read

"Greetings Hauptmann" the Port Emberian officer returned the greeting. "Captain Nathan Killpatrick of the National Ceremonial Guard" he extended his hand to greet his visitor. "Welcome to The Republic of Port Ember. I'd love to chit-chat, but we need to clear the runway. A bunch of warriors on the civilian airport does not make for a relaxed civilian mind.. Once we are done loading your kit, you can get your men on that truck there." -he pointed to a nearby truck- " Once your happy and complete we will move out to your new home.. its about 40 mikes (Mikes refers to minutes not miles) from here." The captain took a look around and let out a loud whistle "HUSTLE HUSTLE HUSTLE LOADING CREW! OSCAR MIKE IN 5 MIKES!"

Caja. O'Malley's, with Tim.
"Eh, Big Bad Wolves might be a bit too much...", Caja admitted with a small smile, "You see, the Free Lands are an island nation and less of a unified, stratified nation then an argument and a loose collection of towns, cities and villages inhabited by people of the same cultural descent. We share beliefs, culture, until sixteen centuries ago, there was even a High King. And since a century, this argument calls itself a nation."
She shrugged.
"An over-used term, if you ask me.", she added, "On the other hand, we have Lutetii. A mighty coalition of merchant cities, exporting a lot of stuff, fighting amongst themselves. And we helped them bashing their heads in, by exporting the finest light and medium cavalries you will ever find." She leaned back. "The relations were not that nice, over the many centuries, though, from pirate attacks to raids and counter-operations and so on... the greatest point of contention were twofold: Mount Vellenge and Anfa."
Her smiled had vanished.
"Mount Vellenge, a volcanic island at the centre of a small island group more or less in the middle between both nations, is a Holy Place for both us and the Lutetiians, and in the 17th century, we conquered the island. The religious people of the other were left alone, pilgrims were allowed, and Lutetii was occupied elsewhere, but the grudge against them remained, for when they conquered the island a few centuries before that, they... let's just say, that they were not so kind." She let a beat pass. "Centuries passed, and 1903 came. Council Crisis, six members of the Elder Council died in a train crash and thus, the Lands of the Selkie, not yet a nation, were even more without a leading body, not even a government, then usually. And the Lutetiians saw their chance: They landed troop contingents in the Mainland, near Scilly, marched northwards on a mission to civilize the barbarian Selkie."
She let a beat pass.
"They landed a force of five thousand men, a brigade with artillery and cavalry and machine guns. We mustered a force of twenty thousand men of the Younger Militias, basically kids between 15 and 19 Springs, and gave them pointy sticks. Well, pikes, bows, crossbows, swords, muzzle-loading guns and so on, and placed them at one of their less likely routes, between a ridge and a river, near a town called Anfa. They took that route, the Battle of Anfa Ridge happening. In the end, ten thousand children laid dead in the ground, they didn't even bother counting the wounded... and they held." She grinned. "But following the repulsion of that force, we founded the 'nation' two years later and held a grudge. They did, too. Between 1942 and 1948, submarines, we think, that they were Lutetiian or operating from bases there, raided trading convoys and the young SDF posted a force to Shella Island, the first long-range deployment. Abhcan's Little Daggers. There will be a movie in a few months."
She took a sip of her beer.
"In 1976, the Republican Junta couped itself into power and from the start, they made no bones about their hate of the Free Lands and of the Selkie, things coming to blows in 1983 - Second Vellenge War. They took the islands in one night, we retook them." She let a beat pass. "And, rumours persist, that Selkie Fighterbombers stood on the airfields with nuclear bombs in the weapons bays during these weeks. As did Lutetian planes with biological weapons. Rumours, but still..."
She let a beat pass.
"The Utica Peace Accords were brokered a few weeks later, by the young Sultana Razia, safeguarded by a few Kyrenaian Navy vessels on station on Mount Vellenge. It says much, if you consider, that the Kyrenaians had two Aircraft Carriers and their battlegroups as their first safeguard, but by now, its a few boats.", Caja explained, "Because in 1985, the Lutetian Civil War ended the Junta and while there are rumours going up to Special Forces raids, I know, that arms manufacturers in the Free Lands supplied both sides with weapons, for a very pretty penny." She let the darker implications of that fall under the table. "And when the war ended in 1987, the Lutetians kept to themselves. Over the recent years, there have been tries by the spirituality to build bridges, but those were more or less without success. And then, there is the LCN..."

Kiana. O'Malley's, at the bar.
Kiana laughed, but one could see in her eyes, that she was honestly impressed.
"A Master Brewer... that explains a lot.", she said and raised her mug to her lips, "It's very good." She placed the mug down. "Lillo-Beer, beer from a place called Lillorainen, is a good stuff, too. Ale... Silverport Lager."
She shrugged.
"Ale was almost the starting point for a Civil War... the Ale War, 18th century.", she retold, "Could only be averted the good old way: A drinking contest."

Tim's mouth almost hung open. He was genuinely intruiged. The history of the Free Lands was mightily deep.. and interesting. It was hard to believe that he have never heard these stories. He was suddenly angry at his old school curriculum.

"Oh don't stop now! Do tell more about this..LCN! I do love a good accronym story." Tim was ready to hang on the lips of Caja once more..

Georgie poured another round of beer for Kiana and himself out of the Cold Keg Machine.

"Aye, this tavern and our brewery started up the same day by the same lad way back. Those two little shits both have the potential to run both my tavern and my brewery - but no.. I guess I'd have to father a new child for that!" Chuckle "Lassie I think I am in love with yer nation. Any nation willing to war for some good booze - has their heads screwed on right! Caja. O'Malley's, with Tim.
"LCN, La Coste Nostre - a mafia syndicate, doing everything from robbing lollipops from little children to human trafficking, arms smuggling and things far worse.", she explained, "Officially, they associate themselves with the Windsinger Sect, a religious group, which takes the donations, but otherwise does not return the favour. They are a thorn in the side of the Council of Ten, the governing body of Lutetii, and of the police and security forces in, to my knowledge, up to fifteen countries, amongst them the Free Lands and the Sultanate of Kyrenaia. Organized Crime on a huge scale."

Kiana. O'Malley's, at the bar.
Kiana laughed.
"Alright, there are three main places for ale-brewing in the Free Lands: Silverport, Wembury and Bodmin. Basically every village has its own brewery, but those three were known far and wide, their barrels could be found in nearly every town... sometimes, the landlords needed to be convinced of the superiority of the product over the competitors, though."
She assumed, that her listeners understood, which kind of 'convincing' she meant.
"So, one day in 17...68, I think, the representatives of Silverport's and Bodmin's primary breweries found themselves visiting the same inn on the same day for the same purpose. And they clashed violently.", Kiana continued, "Both sides lost as the landlord got the Town Militia on the scene. Of course, both breweries, slighted by the inn and the other, began to protest to their city councils and they mobilized the forces, assembled their allies, Wembury going in as well. They marched onto the poor city, messengers riding back and forth in the name of the Elders to broker a bloodless solution to the conflict, the town itself assemblying a force to defend itself... then, someone had an idea."
She let a beat pass.
"The war could be averted by one simple measure: Let them all drink!", she concluded, "So, the Elders brokered a drinking contest between the leaders of the armies, so that they could get the conflict out of their systems, an old method to solve conflicts of minor importance. And they met in the inn, where the whole ordeal started, drank, drank, drank... the local brew." She giggled. "End result: Four absolutely drunk generals, who negotiated a peace, four armies deciding, that drinking was better then fighting, and a new brand name - the Peace Ale."

When Kiana finished her tale, chaos erupted. All the listeners cheered loudly, as if this ancient tale happened to them and affected them directly. They were overcome with joy and one could hear loud "HOORAH!!'s" being shouted. Beer glasses were bumped against each other with loud "cheers mate" following. Suddenly the loud fast paced folk rock music was blaring over the speakers again.

Kevin O'Malley (the younger brother) grabbed the cute waitress Claire and broke off into a dance. James walked up to Kiana and extended his hand - "lassie great story.. last dance for the road?"

45 Sola Street, Suburbia

Lex was sitting in his study, reading through today's shipping manifests and schedules. Today was unusually busy, with many foreign ships full of either tourists or immigrants coming through the massive ports. The Port Ember government had put them above all other ships, and as a result, his ships would be delayed. He sighed, knowing that today would be a slow day...

He leaned back in his chair and looked around. His study was very spacious, with many bookshelves full of things from trading manifests, to language dictionaries, to books on the history Ukraniumstan, showing homage to his country of birth. He had not been there since he bought this mansion and moved in back in 2007, and personally had no intention of going back. Although he loved and kept in contact with his elderly parents, he did not talk to other siblings or any extended family, making most of his true friends and acquaintances Port Embrians. Despite this, he still spoke fluent Ukranian alongside English, and had recently been taking online courses in Esperanto. In his study, there was also an antique globe, showing a rather ancient map of the world created by a famous Embrian cartographer. It was a gift from his best friend and Co-CEO, Mark Armitage, who ironically had taken a liking to Ukraniumstan and moved there, making up the Commonwealth branch of the company. Lex stood up from his seat and went over to it, opening the globe and taking out a bottle of Ukranian kvass.

As he poured himself a glass, he heard a notification bling on his computer. He went back over and saw an update pending on the shipping registry. It was a rather odd request from Mark, who was currently in Kievitanbul meeting with several members of the Rada to discuss new exports. Lex took a sip and read...

Hey man, how are you doing?

Sorry about the surprise message, but this is rather important. One of our, "special clients" in Port Ember wants this delivered by tomorrow. The client in question is the King Shark himself, Azula. He asked me to tell you to arrange delivery at the Marina Terminal so that you guys could meet and make sure it is delivered.

Sorry, but I can't really say what the contents are since I don't really know either. All I know is he is paying a hell of a lotta money for this.

Send me a reply when you secured a port for the delivery

Mark

Lex frowned. While the ASTE preformed normal trade between the two nations, it had also been also the major transportation network for black market goods to and from Port Ember, raking them in a large amount of money. However, Lex did not like anything about this. First the renting of ASTE ports to that Chuckian guy, and now a direct request from one of Port Embers crime bosses? He mulled over the message for a bit, then finally decided to make the arrangement.

He picked up his phone a dialed the Gudfrey Company HQ, informing them that a late registry was being placed above the normal Ukrani ships dockings at the Marina Terminal. He waited for confirmation.

Gudfrey's Trading Company Head Office

Head Merchant Tig Treiger was contacted by Mr Alexander Skoropadsky, informing the Company that a late registry was now placed above the normal Ukrani ships dockings at the Marina Terminal. He quickly grabbed a nearby Royal fine-pen on his desk, and scribbled down the details on a deskpad note. He forced a smile while talking on the phone, he found that it helps him sound nicer and more professional over the phone. Once he finalised the conversation, he thanked Alexander and assured him that the matter will be solved without any hicups. Once the phone was placed down neatly, he let out a quick short flurry of cusswords. He was not in the mood for extra problems. He had enough already.

He opened his drawer, took out a 9mm cartridge casing, opened it at the top (old smuggler trick - storage inside a empty cartdrige), pour the contents on his shiny mahogony table and shot it up his nose. He called in his secratary and handed her the note. "Get it done right away."

Caja. O'Malley's, with Tim.
"Allmighty might be a bit too much, but global sounds about right.", Caja said, "At least they have a global reach of operations. I'm not privy to their operations or the operations of police and security forces against them, but if I were to bet, it would indeed be a wonderful story."
She did not mention, that she would also bet, that Lutetiian business from the LCN was already here. In a country, where many things were legal, they thrived... and usually didn't do the illegal things.

Kiana. O'Malley's, at the bar.
Kiana had noticed her growing audience and the shift in music and had tried to work it in, but she would freely admit, that she was not much of a storyteller.
Still, her old story causing such cheers made her grin and laugh along.
As the music started up again with tempo, she saw the younger brother grab the waitress and sweep her off her feet, before her attention was drawn to James.
"Lassie great story...", he said, "Last dance for the road?"
She let him stand for a second or two, seemingly considering, before she took the offered hand.
"One for the road - but not the last!", she said with a grin.

Penny's home

Penny listenned carfully, "We can do that job but Ideally we're after container or box load, ambient or refrigerated loads as we have our own trailer, but the load, we can shift this evening, can we meet up?" Asks Penny as Evan brings in a couple of hot drinks

"Here you go babe" he says

Penny nods and takes the drink before turning to Evan. "We may have a lead!"
