Orcadian Embassy - second opening speech

As Orcadian Prime minister Ian Gordon wound up his inital speech, he then turned to Nick Warszinski,
"I would like to formally introduce Sir Nicolas Warszinski to say a few words, Sir Nick."

Nick Warszinski nodded and stood up before walking to the stage, where he turned to the gathered VIPs.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, I have worked in many diplomatic assignments, the USA where my daughter met her now husband, New Zealand where I took over from a diplomat who unfortunately had a calling from a higher authority, yet a few years ago when the prospect of an embassy here in this fine location was raised, I took it as an honour to be the first ambassador to a new diplomatic assignment, for here there lies a lot of opportunity for both nations especially with the regional economic power that Port Ember holds. I was lucky to recieve a tour of the islands and its neighbourhoods as I came down here to help find a suitable location for the Embassy that has been built, that was two years ago and the change to what we have seen today with new businesses, new neighbourhoods springing up along the waterfront all go to show why this new diplomatic relationship is important, important for everyone both here and back home..."

As Nick gave his speech, the small orchestra began to file in and take their seats watched on by Wallace who was lying atop the steps

"...I would like to not only give my warmest thanks to the government of Port Ember for the thawing of relations between our two nations but also to the people of Port Ember for giving us the opportunity to not so much resume, but restart diplomatic relations with a fresh start, and now I would like to hand proceedings over to our next speaker"

Nick stood to one side as Ian Gordon took to the stage, taking from a shelf below the lecturn a small case about 150mm wide, 300mm long and 40mm deep.

and so it was with each speaker taking their turn to offer thanks to Port Ember's new government for permitting the embassy to be built, in all ot would take about an hour to get through the speeches before returning to Ian Gordon who was holding by now a small case about big enough to hold a pair of scissors.
"it is now time for the main part of the ceremony and so I would like to call President Flint and the first lady formally open the Embassy"

They love to brawl and they do so all too well! Secondly, and most importantly, you need to know and understand that the Malibu is a thriving den of drugs. Hard drugs. Cocaine and the like. And its completely legal, so no freaking out and such.."

When Finja and Oakki heard this, they were relieved. The man seemed to misjudge them.
"Oh, do not worry about that," Finja said and put on a cheeky smile. "We come from Draycora, where we are very committed to freedom and we are used to having cocaine and heroin in the supermarket".
"But we elves do not like beating us," added Oakki. "Not in the places where we live".
"Nevertheless, we are happy about these and other survival tips", Finja's cheeky smile became warm and she dropped into the taxi seat. "I hope in these Malibu they have something pleasant to drink besides hard drugs".

The Cutlass
Kiana & Caja with Emily

After Emily concluded her business with her new partners, the bill was genorously settled by them and goodbye's were said. Emily had a good feeling regarding them and their prospective business. As she drove away, she started making calls to set up the shooting range for the next day. Emily laughed softly ad she drove, fondly remembering the goodbye handshakes she received. She could see that it was a weird gesture for the ladies, but honestly it was for her as well, as Port Emberian ladies hugged and kissed as a greeting normally. Oh well, she thought - cultures and customs will still rub off in the future!

Telephonic Conversation
Aurora & Azula

As Johnny spoke to Aurora, he could hear a faint smell of joy and generall niceness. Azula enjoyed that. In his world of death and violence, such softness was a welcome sight. He replied to her, stating that lunch is to take place at the Lollipop Gentleman's Club. As he said his goodbyes and ended the call he bellowed a soft laugh, wondering how a soft butterfly like Aurora will adapt in his stripclub. He laughed agaim as he dragged on his thick cigar.

The Upperdeck Hotel
Viktor Venediktov

Jonathan processed the payment quickly, afer which he provided Mt Venediktov with his room key. "Third floor, room 322 sir. Its on the left - with a beautifull ocean view! Feel free to use the facilities of the hotel, which includes the restuarant and bar, gym, sauna, swimming pool and the spa. Please enjoy your stay and welcome to Port Ember!"

Jonathan made quick work of calling closer a porter, who whisked away Viktor's luggage to his room.

The Orcadian Embassy - Lilly Black Borough

As the hour long speeches continued, President Flint sat still and smiled softly the entire time, only nodding at thr appropriate times. It was a boring but neccesary turn of events which had to be endured. The thanks and praises given however, felt good obviously, and the President knew how good it made Port Ember look on the world stage. To think, a nation giving praises to their former colony, accepting them as their equal. Port Ember has come a long way...

As the speeches ended, the President and the First Lady rose from their seats and stood next to Ian Gordon, ready to commece with the ribbon cutting ceremony. Joani stood next to her husband, arms intertwined.

The cab driver let out another soft laugh. He was excited to hear of more free nations, as it was a scarce commodity. The driver himself did not care for drugs, he never used and never would. He however held the right to choose for himself as a sacred act. The government - any government had no right to tell its people whats wrong or right. He finally replied after snapping free from his deep thoughts

"Oh offcourse! The drugs is a mere enhancement to the joint. You will find excellent music, company and world renowned beer, rum and coctails available. We Port Emberians have quite the reputation for brewing quality beer and rum!"

Viktor Venediktov, Upperdeck Hotel

"Thank you, I will enjoy my stay here and you have a good day." Viktor said as he left the front desk to the elevator, thinking of the ocean view. He looked at the room key in his hand and tucked it in to his pocket. Room 322, third floor he remembered. As of the facilities, he would probably visit the restaurant first to get a feeling for the food he could possibly encounter.

Caja. Upperdeck, Hotel Restaurant.
The two Selkie returned to their hotel in silence, their taxi driver rewarded with a handsome tip and a kiss on the cheek - Tim was a nice lad, he had driven them safely and securely. That reward was only appropriate.
And from there, the two Selkie went into their rooms, wrote a report and a request, sent it home.
Then Kiana prepared for her date - she was a woman, so that would take a while.
Caja just quickly changed, took a shower and the redhead went into the Hotel Restaurant of the Upperdeck, taking a table. She took the menu, hungry as she was by now, and picked some fish-dish, only waiting for a waiter to make her order.
Gods, this was going to be one boring evening... only her and the TV while Kiana was getting a date. Then again, at least one needed to be halfway not-hungover tomorrow.
Aonas would be fine.
She sighed.

Aurora Alce. Lustro.
We said our goodbyes and as soon as I had hung up, I frowned.
The Lollipop. The Gentleman's Club, a.k.a. a strip club. Well, not exactly what I would call an appropriate place for a business meeting, but whatever floated his boat... maybe tomorrow would be ladies night with male strippers! That thought cheered me up a bit as I noted, that it was lunch.
Well, one couldn't have anything in life...
In any case, I noted the arrangements, reported them to my boss, who nodded.
"It's in your hands now, Aurora. Good luck.", he said with a fatherly smile. "And you'll take Yaro with you as your assistant." I nodded, he seemed satisfied. "Azula is rumoured to be head of a crime syndicate. Unless he asks you, do not mention our affiliation to the LCN and if he does, make it clear to him, that we do not wish to fight him. We do not want that."
I nodded.
"And wear a nice dress for that lunch.", he added.
I smiled and nodded. "I already know which one.", I said and then smiled as he, too, smiled.
"Good girl.", he said, "Now, show me what you got yourself!"
I shared the fruits with him, before I went and put on the first bikini I had bought. One could now assume, that he would be leering, but while there was certainly a reaction, he was focused on something else.
He was checking, if the materials were up to standards, if it really covered as much as it needed - you'll laugh, but there are laws in Lutetii as to what passed as acceptable swimwear or not. In my teenage years, I skirted along those lines quite heavily, but now... sometimes, more was much more enticing then less, I had learned.
Well, in how far that was true for men like Azula... that remained to be seen.
After that was done, we began to prepare for dinner.

The Upperdeck Hotel
Caja & Viktor

As Viktor found the hotel restuarant at the bottom floor of the restuarant, he could observe the following: The room was quite large, with tables placed all around the room, standing on marble like tiles. The tables were are adjourned with wine red tablecloths, with the chairs build from dark mohagany wood, with the cushions made from a redish leather and sponged liberally. The tables were placed comfortable distances from each other. The kitchen was located far right, not visible from the main room, but asscesable throuh a door placed in the middle of the room on the fat right. There was only a few guests currently seated in the restuarant, with the most attention drawing, the table of a lone girl, a stunning redhead, currently assisted by a long haired brunette perky waitress.

The waitress greeed Caja in a friendly manner, in both english and esperanto, before she took out her notepad, ready to take her order.

The hostess of the restuarant greeted Viktor, enquiring how he could be assisted by her. The hostess had dark red hair, with greenish eyes, dressed smartly and professionally and always carried a warm smile on her cheeks.

Viktor Venediktov, Upperdeck Hotel

"I would like to find a table, I haven't eaten today." Viktor replied "This is quite the eatery you have, it must be popular with the guests no?" The dining area could match up with the finest in Korodvinsk, and it's atmosphere was one of high class. The hostess was nice but sometimes a overly chipper people could annoy him a but. Back at home he only been to a place like this once and that instance was his graduation from university which was already years ago. That dinner was, from his memory, excellent and maybe the food here could just as good. Or even better.

The hostess replied in a almost chirpy, excited tone "Venu malsata sinjoro." An old esperanto saying amongst Port Emberian natives which roughly translated to 'come hungry mister', and old albeit odd wish for a guest, which basically means that the food is bound to be feastly.

She led Viktor to the table just opposite Caja, the beautifull foreigner. Viktor was handed a menu and left in peace to browse the menu.

Oakki and Finja

Their driver sometimes seemed to be deep in his thoughts. Oakki liked such people, they always have something mysterious and profound. But he can understand his warnings, he knows the confused foreigners in his homeland, who are upset about legal drugs, polyamore marriages and the now and then to find nudism. Freedom is not something for everyone, especially if you are not used to it. But Port Ember just seems more interesting. Apparently, Elves and Port Emberians share some values, such as freedom, individuality, and self-determination, but their cultures are very different.
"That sounds great!", Said Finja in response to the statement of the drive to the drinks, after that she turned to Oakki. "Let's start our honeymoon a bit more 'comfortable'".
"Yes, that sounds good," Oakki pointed to the driver. "My wife and I are very interested in this city, there would be somewhere here the possibility of a tour".
Finja smiled, "Oh yes, I would like that too".

Just as the couple finished speaking, the vehicle came to a halt, in front of the Upperdeck Hotel. An old but impressive building, its stonework standing tall and proud - a testiment to its long forgotten argitecht and builders.

The driver turned around in his seat, facing his passengers before replying "Aye, it opens tonight only, and seeing that its 10am now, ye two lovebirds have the entire day at yer disposal! Oh, we have arrived at the hotel.."

Viktor Venediktov, Upperdeck Hotel

Viktor looked down on the menu, trying to decide. He looked over to the red headed foreigner sitting at the opposite table and decided to ask her what to order, since he couldn't exactly decide himself. He leaned over slightly and asked "Excuse me, do you know what the best thing to order would be?" She was very nice looking, but he was here on vacation not for dating. Besides the Ministry needed him back in about a month anyhow.

Caja. Upperdeck, Hotel Restaurant.
I looked up from my own menu to the guy on the table opposite to mine.
He looked nice, but not exactly my prey. Too old. I knew, what they said about older men (experience and all of that), but he looked like he was in his fifties or something... plus, I liked my prey inexperienced.
In any case, he asked me, if I had an idea what the best thing to order would be.
I shrugged.
"I don't know either. I ordered the fish dish, Port Ember is famous for that.", I told him with a smile, "It seemed like a good idea at the time."

Port Ember Docks - Philia Floros

Philia finally arrived in Port Ember. She wanted to get off the docks quickly from her ship because she had not come in the regular way. Her country of origin, Sophistan, did not allow its inhabitants to leave the country, which is why she had to break out. She had smuggled herself into a small rowing boat and headed for the sea. On her way she had encountered a passenger ship wauf which she could climb. She was a stowaway on the ship, as she would not even have the money to pay anything. On the passenger ship she plundered some luggage and put on some clothes, since she had traveled completely naked before (clothes were forbidden in Sophistan), besides, she stole some money, so that she could come here also. Now she left the ship and saw the city from the harbor. They were gigantic houses that towered into the sky. Philia had heard stories of Port Ember in Sophistan, but the readings in the schools were trying to present the liberal and democratic countries as negative as possible. As "mob rule" or "ochlokratie" refers to countries with democracy, free markets and individual freedom. It is said that there the instincts, the money and the superstition reign. Philia did not believe it, she knew it was propaganda.
She tried to leave the harbor, not knowing where the exit was and therefore wandering around the harbor.

The building of the Upperdeck Hotel reminded the couple more of their home, probably an older building. The driver told them that it was only 10 o'clock, so they will probably make a tour afterwards. Finja liked, that the couple were named as love birds -She was so excited about the next weeks.
They packed the luggage out of the car.
"So, to summarize again," Oakki began talking to the driver. "You wanted to drive us to a Culture & Tourism Board right after we checked in and this evening to Malibu, am I right?"

Fish. Seemed fitting enough, considering his location. "Thank you for the suggestion." Viktor responded, noting the unusual look she was giving him. He partially dismissed the thought, while his inquisitive side of hi brain told him to ask another question before calling the hostess back. "So," he began using the tone his father used to make people feel at ease, a skill Dad had learned at the "Academy" as he called it. "Why are you are here?" Viktor knew he was traipsing around a minefield asking that sort of question.

Port Ember Docks
Philia Floros

Captain Connor was standing on the deck of the 'Dolphin', a standard but old container vessel. His standard but old container ship. The captain was as old and worn as his ship, yet his body was still hard and strong as steel from his laborous lifestyle.

He was leaning on the rails, slowly but deliberately smoking on his tabacco pipe, looking over the massive docks, his eyes fixated on one person in particular, one he has been observing for the last 10 or so minutes. From what his old eyes could see, the person appeared to be a very young lass. Not a child, yet not truly a women. She appeared.. dirty. And lost. Completely bewildered. And obviously illigal.. She first caught his eye when she disembarked from the nearby passenger liner, skillfully dodging the glares of the local authorities, and subsequently 'failed' to report to Customs.

Captain Connor sighed deeply, already angry at himself. He has already decided to act, and instantly regretted his decision. He just could not leave such matters alone, and it almost always created drama down the line. Nontheless he acted upon his decision and disembarked his vessel and walked over to the girl. As he approached, he was still dragging on his pipe, hands held in his pocket. When he approached the girl, he spoke with his rugged and deep voice, forged by years of screaming orders on the high seas and pipe smoking. "Good morrow lassie. I know a lost soul when I see it.. How can this old dog be of assistance?"

Upperdeck Hotel
Oakki and Finja

The driver could see the joy and excitement in the eyes and demenour of his clients, especially from the lassie. So full of life.

The driver quickly assisted in removing the luggage from the boot, simultaniously calling over a hotel porter, to load the baggae on a trolley, to be taken into the hotel without hassle. He finally responded to his male passenger "Aye that is my suggestion! If ye folk has other plans, I'd be happy to ensure its satisfied! I'm here to help and to see to it that ye get the most out of our fair city."

Caja. Upperdeck, Hotel Restaurant.
I looked at the man with a smile, hearing his soothing tone.
There was bemusement tinkling in my eyes.
"Oh, my, how forward!", I said, almost a purr - like a cat talking to the mouse, "Shouldn't you be asking me for my name first?"
I cocked my head slightly, grinning by now, folding my hands under my chin. "

"Ah, a patronymic naming convention. Interesting.", I said with a smile, leaning forwards slightly, "You don't see that every day anymore... though there are still cultures out there, who use such conventions. The Kyrenaians, for example, or rather their Royalty."
I chuckled.
"Compared to that, I have a completely mundane name: It's Caja.", I said, debated with me for a moment to tell him my full name, but decided against it. "It means 'the Pure One' in my mothertongue... or at least an ancient dialect of it."

Viktor Venediktov, Upperdeck Hotel

"Royalty? Bah." Viktor scoffed. "We overthrew our royalty in 1928, in a war of liberation for the working classes." To most Karevkans monarchs, along with fascists, were the worst forms of imperialism and oppression. Viktor shifted from ideological views back to names "So Caja means the Pure One in your language? In comparsion the name Viktor is lame." Really, it was.

Caja. Upperdeck, Hotel Restaurant.
I smiled at Viktor's comments about Royalty - 'Liberation of the Working Class', in my experience, mostly meant the 'Enslavement of the Working Class' in due time. But that was not a topic for discussion now.
Besides, we lost our Royalty between 450 and 802, so who was I to talk?
"So, what does Viktor mean?", I asked, already believing, that I had a rough idea as to the direction it went.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Viktor Venediktov, Upperdeck Hotel

Viktor sifted through his memory before finally saying "I believe it means conqueror, borrowed from Latin I think." He read that in a book while in university which he found strange at the time considering his parent's desire to keep him out of the armed service. A thought went click in his head. "Mother always said she picked the name, she was a medic in the National Army after all. My father on the other hand worked for the State Security Directorate, though he never talked much about it. Most he ever said was that he worked in the basement."

Ah, the famous state securities and basements... didn't I say so?
I smiled sadly.
"That's sad to hear.", I said, then smiled, "My parents were merchants before they joined the administration of the Merchant Guild of Leuda. They still work there and worry about me." I smiled. "A girl can be as big as she wants, Mam and Da will always worry."
I smiled.
"Do you have siblings, Viktor?", I asked.
