Parlemen (Parliament) is a unicameral legislature of Nusalia. Because Nusalia is a parliamentary democracy, the Parlemen is the highest institution in the His Majesty's Government. Parlemen members are elected directly in parliamentary elections held every 5 years as well as the election of a new State Counsellor and government composition if the number of seats in the ruling government party does not become the majority in the Parlemen.

Parliamentary Questions for Government — Foreign Military Base Issue

"members of parliament ask responsibility of His Majesty's government's cabinet and the secretary of state for defence about Jeltronia's plan to established military base in Nusalia"

Parliamentary Session: 15 January 2019
Publised by Archives: 20 January 2019

Rt. Hon. Hariman Tanuwijaya (Speaker of Parliament; Independent): Good Morning All, Assalamualaikum, Salam Damai Sejahtera Untuk Kita Semua, Om Swastiastu, Namo Buddhaya, and Salam Kebajikan. Parliamentary Session today is Questions for Government about Foreign Military Base Issue. Welcome if anyone wants to ask questions for our State Counsellor (Rt. Hon. Dharmaji Gumilang) and Secretary of State for Defence (Mr Gerim Haijin)

Rt. Hon. Nusrun Riham (MP for Pakuwon, Duke of Sunda Kelapa, Socialist) to State Counsellor: Your Excellency, We want your explanation regarding proposals received through the Department of Foreign and World Assembly Affairs which contains the plans of one of our friendly countries, Jeltronia to establish their military base in this beloved country. Is that true?

Rt. Hon. Dharmaji Gumilang (State Counsellor of Nusalia, MP for Nanggewer, Conservative): Yes that right. We are trying to improve bilateral relations between the two countries, especially in the military sector. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Nusalia and Jeltronia, we have never at all discussed the security issue, so we should have done that

Rt. Hon. Nusrun Riham: But Your Excellency, won't that threaten the sovereignty of this country with weapons and various foreign soldiers wandering everywhere? this will disturb Indonesian civilians later

Rt. Hon. Dharmaji Gumilang: I guarantee it won't happen, never will

Rt. Hon. Nusrun Riham: everyone can provide a guarantee, but is there a real step forward regarding the proposal? we not only need a guarantee but truly a directed step

Rt. Hon. Dharmaji Gumilang: that is certain because all financing comes from their own country. Moreover, Jeltronia also wants to pay rent per year as long as they are still operating the military base, of course, we can get additional benefits for state revenues and internal security with our friendly country. in their proposals we received, the government was also allowed to access military bases at any time because the area used was certainly still within our sovereignty. this is what makes me agree to accept the proposal after weighing it first

Rt. Hon. Nusrun Riham: well it's enough, thanks to Your Excellency, for your explanation about it

Rt. Hon. Hariman Tanuwijaya: anyone else who wants to ask the state counsellor?

Sugirman Sudut (MP for Klaten, Solidarity): I am, Mr Speaker. but the ask for Secretary of State for Defence, Gerim Haijin

Rt. Hon. Hariman Tanuwijaya: I invite you all to ask the state counsellor again, not the others...

(many MPs laugh lightly)

Rt. Hon. Hariman Tanuwijaya: Okay, because there might be no more questions for your Excellency the State Counsellor of Nusalia, then the next question for the Secretary of State for Defence

Sugirman Sudut: Thank you Mr speaker...

Sugirman Sudut to Secretary of State for Defence: Does our military feel disturbed by the presence of a foreign military base here?

Gerim Haijin (Secretary of State for Defence, MP for Karimun Jawi, Conservative): certainly won't

Sugirman Sudut: oh yeah, where will the foreign military base be located? it certainly will require a lot of land space here

Gerim Haijin: we have thought about this before. the location of the military base will be placed in Lohbener, Priangan Timur province in the Northern Nusalia

Sugirman Sudut: are there benefits received for our military?

Gerim Haijin: since the last few days I have been discussing with our armed forces, State Counsellor and several related agencies that are likely to be affected. based on this, with the construction of a military base, it is hoped that we will not spend too much money when conducting war training with them due to the location factor

Sugirman Sudut: okay I agree

Gerim Haijin: Thank you, Mr Sudut

Rt. Hon. Hariman Tanuwijaya: are there any questions back for both?...

(Wait for 15 seconds for the moment)

Rt. Hon. Hariman Tanuwijaya: OK, it looks like it's gone. thanks to the state counsellor and secretary of state for defence for his attendance at this parliamentary session. Next is a vote to approve the proposal
