The Federal Republic of Slowjamistan, a proud and peaceful nation of the planet Tristar, consistantly endeavored to remain a bastian of prosperity. Yet, there beat within the hearts of the populace a desire to explore the universe. The Federal government had been experimenting for some time to create a device to send into space to intiate contact with beings from across the cosmos. Their drive and committment to such projects culminated into the creation of a probe, within which was contained a friendly greeting being broadcast through a radio transmitter to the members of the universe: We come in peace and love, with open arms, to welcome friends, share ideas, and embrace new worlds. President Lawrence Deveraux extends his hand in friendship and love to the entire universe.
The goal was as simple as the message contained within the probe. There were no reasons the people of Slowjamistan would wish anything more than friendly encounters with the universe at large. It was seen as a way to better themselves through understand and cooperation, rather than war and anguish. A new committment to the space program, coupled with a reduction in military spending, could be seen as a weakness to some. However, the people of the Federal Republic of Slowjamistan believed themselves to be enlightened and empowered because of such dedication to peaceful pursuits.
Other member states on the planet Tristar, such as the Empire of Zeith and the Kingdom of Orvan were against entertaining ideas of interstellar communication because of the fears of interplanetary warfare, something in which the planet was little prepared. The actions of Slowjamistan had, after all, created quite the fuss within Tristar. A small planet of around one hundred million beings were probably no match for large and powerful planets which may or may not exist within the heavens.
Still, President Deveraux believed his cause was just. He believed the will of the people of Slowjamistan was good, and their intentions pure. His only hope was that other beings greeted the probe with the same enthusiasm that the people of Slowjamistan had towards sending the device. Either this would be Slowjamistans crowning achievement, the death of an entire planet, or the biggest misjudgement of any Tristan governmental leader in history.
