Despite rumours in various Normand tabloids that the country could be set to pull out of the contest, Normandy and Picardy is back once again and this time we're asking for your help. That's right, we've got an NF again, Notre Chanson (Our Song). 7 songs will compete, with the winner and runner up going to WorldVision and the World Hit Festival, the choice of who goes to which being at the discretion of Radio-Television de la Normandie.

How do I vote, you ask? Well, we ask that you give 12pts to your favourite, 10 to your second, then 8, 6, 4, 2 points down to 1 point for your least favourite. These are to be either sent to this account via TG or via Discord DMs.

And the songs? Well, we're just going to give you the tunes for now, the other details will be confirmed later (read as: these are all tunes I want to use but I haven't really got ideas for all of them, so there we are). Anyway, here you go...

Song One
Tune | Artem Pivovarov - Karma

Song Two
Tune | Grimes ft. Janelle Monáe - Venus Fly

Song Three
Tune | Côme ft. Haylen - Dans le noir je vois rouge

Song Four
Tune | Florence + The Machine - Big God

Song Five
Tune | Blondie - Call Me

Song Six
Tune | Alessio Bernabei - Ti ricordi di me?

Song Seven
Tune | Eva Simons - Guaya

The Finale

Evening, ladies and gentlemen. The final stage of Cana dor Besein has arrived and we can confirm 5 acts have secured their place in the final- and it was not close. These five songs were definitely favourites with both the international jury and Besenian televote. Here are our choices:

01 | Veronica Red | "Look Up"
Charli XCX feat. MØ - 3AM (Pull Up)
The duo with a lot of star power. Veronica Red is two fabulous ladies, Jada and Imogen, whom both come from the capital Lipa. Although they have been in the electro-pop scene for a while now, they believe it's time to expand borders and give the world a show.

02 | Marc Alm | "Din mar (All ours)
Years & Years - All for You
Most likely unknown to an international audience, Marc Alm is a superstar here in Besen, with 3 number one albums under his belt. The decision to enter Cana dor Besein is slightly tricky but we are extremely grateful to have him perform here, with the possibility of representing Besen at Worldvision.

03 | OLA | "Durem (La La) [Wild (La La)]"
Fleur East - Favourite Thing
Immigrating to Besen at a young age, OLA brought the flavour of Afro-caribbean funk with her. A diva in her own right, she is well known here and is extremely popular in the charts right now.

04 | Erica & Ledo | "Nie (Never)"
Clean Bandit feat. Marina & Luis Fonsi - Baby
The former Worldvision contestant Erica is back. This time with her friend, producer and songwriter Ledo, whom has produced a bulk of hits in Besen. They sing about an everlasting bond that can 'never' be broken. We wish them luck.

05 | Loreina | "My Time"
Bebe Rexha - Grace
Coming straight off the broadway stage, Loreina is a powerhouse vocalist, known for having her own musical television programme here on BC1. Emotional and raw, it is a guarantee that she will tug at your heartstrings.

To vote in this finale, please rank from 5-8, then give 10 points to your favourite. If you voted in the qualification round (which I thank you for) just send a discord or TG saying to keep your previous votes, but if you want to alter your votes, send them if you like. Thank you all for participating. That's all from BC1.

Comittee Position

Why Besen Should Be On The Committee

Well, first of all, I've already been on the committee once, from WV64-65, when there was a vacant seat, so I know what I'm doing. Basically, I want to make sure the thread is constantly being updated and the list of confirmed nations, host bids etc. are always full of information. I want to be tighter on nations that submitted an entry to the IC thread and then didn't vote, etc. And, most of all, I want the Worldvision committee to be fun and inviting to everyone.

Senior Spokesperson Mark Meechan had this to say:
“We just cannae be arsed. Aw these songs that aw these artists put in, its just tae much fur us. Look, we’re gonnae take a wee break fae aw this, and, in the future, we shall be back. We dunno when, though.”

VARTUGIA FOR COMMITTEE.

Lets Make Our Future Togehter

Hello. My name is Darkmania Vartugia. I had plans to step down. However, after the chaos that was the WSC70 (Not dissing you, Talv), I felt that this should not happen again. Therefore, I do a "FDR" and will run for a third term. I may be old, but this iron nationstates-player is not for turning.

What do you accept of me for a third term? This

  • A DIRECT CHANNEL FOR COMMITTEE AND HOST

There will be a channel where the WSC host and the Committee can have contact with each other to prevent chaos like what happens on WSC70. Here, important communication between the host and the Committee can happen as well as a place where we can see if the host has a Hard Deadline or Flexible Deadline.

  • A POSSIBLE DOSSIER ON HOW TO WRITE A SONG FOR WSC

If you are a veteran, then this is pointless. But this will be helpful for those who doesn’t know on how to write legal songs for WSC. Of course, there will be references to Norway 2018 ;)

  • BANNING IZMEDU FROM WORLDVISION UNTILL HE USES DARIA- CELEBRATE. #THEDARIAMOVEMENT!

  • PORTOFOLIO
I, as the guy in charge of this account, has both RL and NS experience with leadership. In the strange world known as "Real Life", i do youth-workrealted leadership at my local church. But the juicy parts lies in NationStates.

Firstly, i have already been in the Committee before. If i win, this will be the third term. Outside of the World of NS-Music, I (as my main) has voting-rights for the NS-Olympics and the World Cup. And Darkmania was a Executive Committee on The International Water Polo Federation before it bursted into flames and burned down.

Seeing as there are not enough committee candidates yet, Kalosia announces its intention to renew its seat for a third term.

The last couple of editions has made me realize that we still have some issues that I think we could work together better to overcome them. Many of them pertain to communication.

Although a Discord channel that connects the host with the committee would be nice, I think it would be less of a clutter to simply hold committee members more accountable to keeping track of information, something that the community has already been doing consistently. I will try my best to make sure that the way things are run in the committee channel will be run more efficiently, and that up-to-date information is kept and circulated. Although most of you do not have access to this channel and therefore cannot see what happens behind these closed doors, the effects will show beyond those barriers.

Even in the real life UN Security Council, most of the important decisions, the big talk, all that occurs in a confined room that the media has no access to, and we may never know what goes on in that room. But they still come out and talk in front of the cameras, even if only for 5 minutes, to show the public the fruit of their discussion. Speaking of, I think it's time we revisit the rules and make sure the structure of the contest as it is now is sustainable and able to meet the demands of its participants. I really hope the 5 elected members, whoever they may be, will be able to settle on a common time where they will all be able to meet and genuinely discuss.

I understand that we are all busy, especially as one of the longest-participating regulars who these days does not have that same free time I did 7 years ago. Admittedly, my 24 hours now are not the same 24 hours that 13-year old me had to enjoy. I believe the same is true for many of you who I've gotten to know over the past few years (and even meet in real life!) and befriend. But I believe, if my fellow candidates think they can take invaluable hours out of their daily grind to run an online song contest, then we can all make it work. And I sure hope it does.

Although I initially intended to write only the first sentence of this entire post, I hope that the stream of consciousness that followed was helpful to you. Whether you consider me to be a worthy Committee member is entirely your choice to make, but if you have read this far, then I can only thank you for the time you've taken out of your day to read this.

I currently don't have a lot of time on my hands so I'll be quick and just answer the above question, another member may fill in the rest of what needs to be done for me — Kal

Given the insufficient amount of declared committee member candidacies, the deadline for declaring your candidacy for the WV Committee has (retroactively) been pushed back a further 24 hours (until 9pm CET on Tuesday) or until we reach 5 announced candidates, whichever one comes later.

Retroactively means all of the above have been accepted even if past the original deadline.

This is all I have for now. Good night!

Alright, I’ll throw my hat in the ring for Committee Membership :)

Having no prior experience on committee it will be a chance to learn more of the ins and outs of the WV processes and I would also commit to undertaking / co opting / or strengthening existing measures to preserve the ongoing history of the contest. Also not saying that I would obsess over it, but would attempt to meticulously maintain the ooc main post.

May add more detail later....

I've ruminated on it enough. I'm going to apply for committee candidacy.

I feel that I've been in here enough times properly to cast off my original checkered history of "register but don't enter properly" that I can be called a recurring member of the community, becoming both host and winner in 2018, and as you've seen on the Discord I'm a friendly, agreeable sort that can help run this shebang with a fair hand. Furthermore, I was able to host one edition successfully last year, and after the initial taste, I would love to know how it all works under the hood. I haven't done a committee in NationStates yet, however as moderator to one of the biggest music game sites since 2011, that should be more than enough proof of credentials to run a community.

What I'd offer:

In recent contests there have been cases of the host not quite fully completing the contest, in particular postcards. Before it looks like I'm throwing shade, I'm at fault myself - I missed out the entire interval act for 64, I know what it's like for deadlines to sneak up on you. So what I'd propose as committee would be to allow more interaction with the host from my end, and offer to aid any particular parts of the hosting process that the host may be running into trouble with.

More feedback in the design workshop. To be honest, I should be doing more of this regardless of whether I get in or not. Think of it as my New Year's Resolution or something. As well as that, I propose improved curation of the NSWiki page. It hasn't been properly worked on for a couple of editions, so with the rest of the committee's help I should be able to get the page updated for each current contest, and back for at least all of 2018's contests at the latest.

Thanks for reading, there's a fair bit to get through there and I normally like to keep it concise, so I'm sorry if I'm waffling at any point!

OK, having put my name forward, I think it's best if I lay out my positions and why I ought to be elected back on to the committee.

I left the committee around 15 editions ago given a poor working relationship between myself and the rest of the then committee. I was led to believe that I was crap, and I should resign. And so I did. Now, the crucial thing about this is one of the people with whom I disagreed is not standing again, and that allows me to commit to a healthy working relationship with any of the current candidates. Whilst I was initially feeling I would not re-stand until WV76, the lack of candidates has persuaded me otherwise.

I have more experience than many of the candidates, having competed in every single edition since WorldVision 29, many of which I competed with both Mister and Missus X. It doesn't quite hit you until you realise it, but having started as the newbie, people often would subtly drop hints and advice. And now I find myself in that position, subtly encouraging new players what to do and what not to do. I'm not going to try to rip up the reforms that have been introduced, much though I disagree with them, although I have noticed some areas where the committee has been slacking in recent editions. I often make suggestions and offer opinions. I do very much feel like a back seat driver at the moment - it's time for me to take the wheel.

Okay, here goes.

Ethane's Committee Application

I was initially not going to stand for a committee role, but have changed my mind and decided that I could help out during the next committee term through a role on it.

I love WorldVision, and I want it to be a success, and so I would like to be on committee so I can make that a reality.

I've been in WorldVision since WV43. That was my debut year, and while I haven't been in every contest, I have dedicated my time and effort into this online song contest and have loved hanging out with the community; it is you guys that make WorldVision.

And that's the spirit I would go into committee with. Our role isn't to dictate over you or to push our agenda on to the contest. The Committee's role is to facilitate the smooth running of WorldVision Song Contests, and to ensure rules aren't broken. There needs to be some rules, but they should be limited. There needs to be some punishments, but they should be limited. There needs to be some effort to moderate in the discord, but our objective is a welcoming and friendly community.

That's why I believe that the rules around what constitute 'crimes' and their constituent 'punishments' need to be cleaned up. That's why I believe the committee needs to coordinate and cooperate with each other. When I was last on committee, there were some rules that we believed would be good for the contest but they didn't pass because we couldn't get together at a time. That's why I believe in a document I'm creating, which will take some time, which will list the songs used by people to help people be able to pick a song.

I want to be cooperative and maintain the enjoyability of WorldVision, ensuring the community is a friendly and welcoming place, open to all. I hope that you can see the vision I see for WorldVision. Let us dream together for the future as a community. Let us listen to each other for a better WorldVision. And let's work together for the success of this online song contest.
