University of Ajax (Closed, Ajax, OOC Thread, Non-Canon)

In a small(ish) town in a country in the region of Ajax's northern hemisphere, probably on the continent of Belisaria but maybe Ochran or Norumbia, is a prestigious liberal arts university which attracts the cream of the crop from throughout the region (or so the faculty likes to think). This roleplay will chronicle the lives of students at that university drawn from throughout the region who are absolutely not stereotypes or caricatures of their nationalities, how dare you think otherwise.

This thread will be used for any OOC notices and character reference sheets to avoid clutter in the IC thread. Please note this RP is closed and limited to members of the Ajax roleplaying region. Also, in case it isn't clear, we are playing very fast and loose with settings and canon so don't worry too much about consequences.

Milena Nenashev

Brief Biography: Born of the illustrious Nenashev family of Rhynovia the lady Milena is a beautiful star of Rhynovian culture often sought after by pop culture icons and other members of the nobility to be their representative to a younger generation. Her beauty and bloodline makes her an exquisite prize for other houses to intrigue over as her second in line claim to the Nenashev estate could be a shining prize for some young nobleman waiting to claim a rich noble woman. Milena only has to educate herself in a sensible area of women education, business etiquette, a major exclusive to throwing parties and mixers for her husbands business affairs.

Ranko Slavko

Brief Biography: Ranko is born of a family rich in bloodline to some of the first patriots of the Rhynovian Red Revolution. The fervor and pride his family held as they rushed the castles and estates of the evil nobles to claim the wealth of Rhynovia for the workers. Their hopes and dreams of making all the workers wealthy and prosper were manifest in their hands... until the realities of communism hit and famine, plague, and poverty put them right back where they were... but hey they had control, they were WORKERS. Now with the fall of the Worker's republic and the rise of the new monarchy and capitalism, Ranko Slavko has taken many years to mull through an education, taking each and every detail into long account. So long he may have been held back a few years...

Name: Sadiki Hada
Age & Year: 21, 2nd year
Nationality: Tuluran
Major: Geological Engineering
Brief Biography: Born into a large, poor rural family in the State of Sulekoja in northeastern Tulura, Sadiki never wanted to marry or remain with her extended family forever. She wanted to venture out beyond her simple lifestyle in her home village and did so by excelling in education and being able to attend the prestigious Madinloga University. With a growing interesting in geology and the environment, Sadiki decided to study Geological Engineering - if not her interest then the money to help her impoverished family, as the mining industry in eastern Tulura is booming.

Sadiki on a whim applied for the Madinloga exchange program to become "cultured" in the ways of the world, with daydreams of potentially moving to a foreign country. The prospect of going to an exotic land to study and meet new people enthralled Sadiki's imagination.

Brief Biography: Kwame was born into a long line of welders, hell his surname means 'The Welder', so you can imagine his father's disappointment when his first and only son lacked the motive or drive for the trade or any other. From a young age, Kwame loved animals, working odd jobs during summers as an intern at the local zoo's and safari resorts. It was quite the change of pace from his urban upbringing in Madinloga, but he enjoyed the pace of things. He couldn't give up the chance to visit another place however when offered to apply in the exchange program.

Name: Thibault de Gardes
Age & Year: 23, second year
Nationality: Vannoisian
Major: History
Brief Biography: Born to an extremely minor Vannoisian noble family, Thibault or "Thib" de Gardes has a Vannoisian father and Lyncanestrian mother. Though his social standing provided enough advantage, and his family's coffers enough money, to live comfortably, Thib had undertaken the process of obtaining Lyncanestrian citizenship virtually as soon as he was able, and spent two years after graduating from his local lycée traveling the nations of the Belisarian Community. Having become more interested in Western Belisaria through his travels, and in leaving the small village in which his family was well-known, Thib decided to study a topic he was interested in -- history -- in a place he still hadn't yet been. Thib still benefits greatly from his minor noble status both monetarily and socially in Vannois, so he's a bit of a trust fund kid.
Useful Notes: Thib's a casual smoker, like most Vannoisians; he's also rather sensitive about his ancestry and position back home, so don't expect him to be joining the Young Communist Club.

Name: Marie-Joséphine Michaux
Age & Year: 18, first year
Nationality: Vannoisian
Major: Political Sciences
Brief Biography: Marie-Joséphine, alternately known as Joséphine or simply MJ, was born to a family of relatively well-to-do Vannoisian commoners in the port city of Montmorency. The city, which is notoriously badly run and was under direct government control for much of Joséphine's youth, inspired an interest in Joséphine toward bettering her locality and, on a larger scale, her country. While she is rather determined, Joséphine is also relatively naive; she has big ideas with little clue how to implement them. She's also stretched her parent's willingness to fund her crusade by deciding to jump on the opportunity to study at this university, though for now, all is stable.
Useful Notes: Joséphine's a casual smoker, like most Vannoisians. She's not especially attached to the political trappings of her homeland, but she has a general respect for the Imperial Palace; career politicians, however, earn her ire.

Name: Avuġaa
Age & Year: 22, third year
Nationality: Nunaaqqinimmiut (of the Menitiqaanaqammiut minority group)
Major: Linguistics
Brief Biography: Avuġaa's parents were, like most Menitiqaanaqammiut, semi-nomads,moving throughout their territory by the seasons to hunt and fish. Unlike most Menitiqaanaqammiut, however, her parents were also brilliant gunsmiths, to the point that they decided to move to Tatutiaġvik, the largest city in Nunaaqqinit's western mainland, and establish their business. They quickly built themselves into one of the most prolific small arms producers in Norumbria, and were able to raise their children (all given Nunaaqqinimmiut names in order to better integrate them into settled society) in prosperity. This never sat well with Avuġaa, their youngest, however; she saw the issues her brothers and sisters in the back country still faced, and seeing the prosperity she was born into, decided to dedicate her life to helping them. After graduating at about the middle of her class, she decided to apply to a well-known foreign university to get an international perspective, where she stands today. She's known as one of the loudest, most outspoken people on campus, albeit a loving person all the same.
Useful Notes: the "ġ" is pronounced /ʁ/, like a French "r;" she considers herself both asexual and aromantic. She despises most people she disagrees with, most vocally both racists and rich people who don't do anything to help society.

Name: Kinnaq III
Age & Year: 20, second year
Nationality: Nunaaqqinimmiut
Major: Marine biology
Brief Biography: Both of Kinnaq's parents are professors, one of philosophy at the University of Qigiqtaq and one of architecture at the Nunaaqqinit Academy of Fine Arts, so his early years were spent without much money but with a lot of books. In spite of his name, which means "fool" in Nunaaqqinitun, he generally excelled in class -- his primary obstacle was his utter lack of motivation. He was always fascinated with the ocean, though, and loved visiting the Qigiqtaq Harbor Aquarium all through his childhood, so he was much more invested in biology, especially marine biology, and he went far beyond his normal coasting-through in those classes. After growing bored with his home country, and especially with its native marine animals, he decided to transfer in his second year. He's generally perceived as laid-back and uncaring to a borderline frustrating degree; his only interests of any passion are the ocean and hockey (he's a solid goalie, although not nearly good enough to go pro), generally not perceiving most other aspects of life as worth much of his attention.
Useful Notes: The only group of people he holds any ill will towards are the rich by birth, a common sentiment in Nunnaqqinit; he's also somewhat invested in anti-imperialist causes, another common sentiment, although not nearly enough to have a big effect on his life.
