Lexa watched as the armed men moved past the truck stop... not stopping, even stepping on the shards of the glass she threw out.
What the... "Quiet." she whispered to the other survivors. "they're obviously hunting for something, and we're obviously not the objective..."
a couple of hours pass and no movement outside the truck stop is noticed. She turned to the trucker and tossed him her keys.
"My job, is to get you to the winnebago... your job is to get that bago to this door, get the rest inside and drive towards civilization. If I go down, you don't stop for me, you don't turn you don't even slow down. Got it?"
The trucker gripped the keys and nodded.
she nodded to the cook. he quietly opened the door and the Winnebago retrieval team slipped out. Lexa, or "Regina Lupine" as her personality switch took over moved quietly towards the winnebago They made their way around the corpses of fallen friends and family as the Winnebago got closer.
then she heard it. the *clickclickclick* of many insectoid legs she nodded to the trucker and he broke into a run as the mass of spiderlings seem to spill out of the mist. changing angles, Lexa moved to intercept as much of those she can... metal shield held ready as she swung Grande Morte one handed at the nearest spiderling splitting it width-wise the others changed target as one became readily available. the *Twip* of spider silk was her only warning to raise her shield... barely catching the mass of webs that were shot out to her.
the hissing as the webs started to melt the metal shield filled her ears.
20 seconds she kept swinging, clearing as much of the large spiders as she can.
"I'm at the bago! Hurry!" a voice drifted out of the mist.
"GO! DO YOUR JOB!" Lexa shouted back as she cleaved though two bodies that lunged forwards.
She didn't hear the engine turn, her focus on other more pressing things. but it was a welcome surpise when the bago drove over the mass of spiderlings as it headed towards the Truck stop.
Many of her opponents lay crushed, but many more began to follow the bago... this was not wanted.
Throwing the ruined remains of her shield at those chasing the bago, she followed up with two throwing hatchets. the spiderlings's aggro was successfully re captured.
drawing a short sword and panting heavily, she started swinging at the nearest spiders. trying to delay the inevitable, buying time for the others to get out.
She heard the Bago's horn honk... but couldn't spare the breath to shout out a reply. A few seconds later, she heard the bago's engine fade into the mist.
Good luck Lexa thought as she felt her arms grow tired.
One of the spiderlings got though her defenses and Lexa found herself knocked backwards with the huge thing now sitting on her chest. she brought up her axe's handle in time to block it's fangs from sinking into her unprotected face. meanwhile, she sensed, more than felt, the others skittering towards her, biting whatever part of her body they could reach.
Fortunately, her Full Chain mail armor stopped those fangs from getting through. she thrashed as she tried to get the, now three, spiderlings off of her... letting out her final battlecry, Lexa was determined to make them work for their meal.
Her roar of anger seemed to echo through the mist... until she realized that it wasn't her roar but something else... something that was attracted to the battle, something that rained death on the spiderlings as they tried to kill this metal clad warrior.
A large silver beast tore out of the mist and began rending spiderlings by the truckload to pieces. the first thought that came to Lexa's mind was "Moorcock" Maximus Tork's Displacer beast familiar... except this thing had scales and it was silver. The tentacles were still there tho...
Drawing her mind back to the fight, Lexa was startled to find that the creature had swiped the three spiderlings off of her and she now got back on to her feet. together, she and her now unusual ally circled each other, watching the other's back and in short order, what was left of the spiderlings quickly vanished back into the mist.
Panting and out of breath, Lexa turned to thank her ally only to find it on it's side. blood(?) oozing from many wounds. with strength quickly vanishing, Lexa dragged the large beast into the now empty truck stop and re barricaded the doors.
Need something to remove the poison... think Lexa... she fretted as she lifted the huge, Tiger sized beast onto the counter top.
her eyes fell upon an unopened package of bread.
Bread poultice... that should work... she quickly made the pasty stuff and carefully wrapped it around the creatures wounds... then opening one can of their dwindling supplies of spam, she mashed up a bit and put it on a plate next to the creatures head which... surprisingly, licked her palm in a friendly manner.
You helped me beastie... like hell I'm letting you die.then, with the last of her energy gone... she lay down on the floor and was quickly unconscious.
OOC: yeah, new critter... think Displacer beast but with scales instead of fur.
