@Marty 'Degeneracy' is defined as essentially being the opposite of progress. When used in the context of a society, it implies that the society is in fact developing backwards rather than forwards. When used in the context of a person (a 'degenerate') it implies someone who does the exact opposite of trying to improve themselves as a person.

As such, 'degeneracy' and similar words are often used by people who believe that society or a person isn't advancing, but regressing. Naturally this means that everyone interprets what is or is not degenerative by their own personal beliefs. What is degeneracy to one person may not be to another person.

@K&KJohannOffical That was a very biased and rather propagated response. @Marty asked a genuine question and instead of giving him a genuine answer, you put forth your personal opinion on the matter - thus potentially contaminating his own opinion by default. This is exactly the kind thing which breeds willful ignorance; if a person displays ignorance on something they should be educated in it in an impartial manner so as to allow them to fully understand it, otherwise they may develop a negative or positive opinion on it without fully understanding what it is, which can further prevent them from developing their own opinions entirely.

You chalking the word up to a 'reactionary' term (a word which, just like 'degeneracy', is vague and thus can be liberally interpreted) used by 'reactionaries' to refer to anything they don't like is not informative, but opinionated, and thus your comment could potentially taint @Marty's understanding of both words, as both you and others use them vaguely and liberally as to prevent an actual understanding of what it is that they mean.
