"I'm not rich, we're comfortable" Ansel shrugs apathetically, "And sure, let's buy a whole bunch of shots of vodka at the bar, makes no real difference to me. He had been too busy talking to Ida and dealing with candy bars that he had not realized Isaac's interjection.
"Drinking, gambling, drugging and shooting?" - he repeated. "And you're sure we are from different countries?" He laughed. "Yes, that's what it's like. I mean, it's nice and fun and everything. Yet it just ... somewhat wasn't sufficient, if you get what I mean."
One never knows, where Lodan Lir's Rivers take one ... - he inwardly repeated this proverb he had never heard before.

She smiled at the story of the two of them meeting again and as he asked how to pronounce the name of the sweets, she replied, speaking enunciated: "Ski-pe-ál. Selkie is a complicated and very melodic language. You might see that at my accent."
Indeed, her accent converted the English language in a melodic one, sounding a bit as if she was singing her replies to him.
And then Fred included Isaac into the conversation, Ida offering a piece of the sweets as well, while she listened. Those two seemed to be alright with their homes, which sounded... interesting to her.
Comparing that to her own homecountry, drinking of alcohol was a part of Selkie-Culture and cuisine (one of their export hits besides SDY's vessels was indeed whiskey), gambling happened in small and big forms, as well as betting (which was actually the larger of the two activities), drugging... it depended on what one defined as 'drugging'. However, Ida doubted, that they meant target shooting with shooting.
She could understand, however, what Fred meant by Yet it just ... somewhat wasn't sufficient.
"Yearning to see and learn about something new is a noble cause, Fred.", she said and smiled at the younger man, "Don't be ashamed of that."

"Ski-pe-ál ... okay, it sounds horrible when I try" - Fred determined, having to grin a bit about himself. "As soon as I'm back, I'll have still a lot of time trying this in front of the mirror. But it tastes as good as it sounds! Your country should really export them."
He had another sip of coke. When she said, Don't be ashamed of that, he smiled back. "I'm never ashamed of anything, especially not when I know what to do. By the way, as you said you might try to get a job at the Foreign Office ... something like that would also be my dream. It's just a pity I'm this young. The Federation of Lillorainen has only recently started to actively build up foreign relations. If I already had a graduation, I could easily join in - they're desparately searching for staff. But this may have changed within the next years. Though, the government could also easily need a few cultural attachés or something - or at least one of the state governments. Well, we'll see." He took the last sip of his bottle, then closed it and put it back into his rucksack.
Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. "Oh come on he doesn't give money out," Leon scoffed, "He's a notorious scruge, and his family is not rich. I wouldn't call us poor but we're hardly rich...I'm just glad we have universal healthcare in my province otherwise I'd be really in the shit with all my illnesses. Although...if we win and decide to have an afterparty I might be able to get some cash transferred if he's feeling happy, just be chearing on the Haven all night because that way means free drinks."

"How would he know if I don't cheer for the Havenic team?" Ansel wondered out loud, "And its unfortunately Andreas isn't more generous with his cash, especially with a blood relative. Seems more than a little stingy and avaricious to me, I feel."

"I know," Leon said, getting an idea, "Add me on facebook, and when the game is on, you start cheering for the havenic team. I'll then send the video of it to Andreas and he'll give us cash. Does that sound fun?"

Ida smiled at his compliments, she had made the Scipeáil herself, after all.
She turned and offered a piece to Asuka (without knowing her name) with a smile, having seen the girl sleeping on the train, texting on the bus and looking quite homesick. Ansel visibly cringed at Leon's statement, rolling his eyes as he said, "Well...I don't entirely see it that way....but I see that we have some common characteristics. Not too many, though." He said, almost as if reassuring himself more than anyone else.

"Yeah...I guess..." Anselm said, only half-listening as he was deep in thought, wondering he suddenly came to be so cordial to this dangerous terrorist, this plainly genetically-unclean person who openly flaunted his desire to be armed and threaten others, it shocked himself to be perfectly honest and he didn't understand it at all, "I hope you don't mind if I'm not exactly celebrating that fact."

"ooh I'd love to!" She agreed and introduced herself "I'm Asuka. Ida-senpai, Fred-san, Isaac-san." she repeated the names so she'd remember. It probably drew a few puzzled looks "Oh I have to remember I'm not at home so I probably don't need to use keigo. Uh polite speech."

"Why not?" Leon answered, cocking his head. "Are you into social isolation and so when you find someone who is a possible friend you feel threatened? I had to study that in school, it's quite a serious condition...if that's what it is you really should get some sort of help." He looked very sympathetic for a moment "If it helps though I was one of the student counsellors at my school...if you're struggling with it I'm happy to listen to you, after all if you feel isolation is the only way that can't be good for you."
Isaac

"Nah you don't have to use any sort of over-polite speech with me," Isaac laughed, offering Asuka the big bag. "I sort of packed a whole bunch of food for the flight and for when I got here, figured it's always best to bring food if you're going to meet new people."

"Yeah, I heard about that when I passed you at boarding" - Fred replied to Isaac. "That's my homeland's advantage - although most people run around with guns, the crime rate in Lillorainen is extremely low. We have a mostly well-funded police ... well, it depends on the state, but generally we have - and we have a very good social network. I think if you combine these, you can allow your people gun ownership without the risk of the homicide rate going through the roof. Of course, it hasn't always been like this - we had a Civil War in the 1970s, after which the Federation formed. But since then, we have turned into a very safe place. In some cities, people even leave their housedoors open."
When Ida said, maybe we'll see each other again then?, he felt like she could read minds, which he luckily could hide behind his empty coke bottle. He had already been imagining how they meet again in a few years at some state meeting, along with President Flemming and someone from the Elderly Council of the Free Lands, and all sharing a drink ... Yeah, that would be fun - he thought.
When Ida talked about graduation and how little she found it life-changing, he raised his eyebrows. "Okay, I'd rather imagine it as a transition to a new period of life ... but who am I to judge, I'll probably find out myself, I assume ..." He hung on; for a tiny moment he considered asking what on earth could be more life-changing than waving school goodbye and start something entirely different, but he decided against, to not seem indiscrete.
Lost in thoughts for a moment, he almost automatically took a snack Isaac had offered. "Uh, oh yes, thank you!" He opened his backpack again and took a few bottles of coke out of it. "Coke, anyone? I still got enough."
He headed to the girl who had just joined the conversation and held one bottle high. He had to laugh when Asuka called him Fred-san. He hadn't been called like this since the anime-themed costume party he had ended up at in school three years ago.

Since Lillorainen's geography is currently being overhauled a 'tiny' bit, most information on it posted before December 12, 2018, is not entirely reliable anymore. Until there's a new, proper factfile, everything you might need to know can be found here. Thank you. #RetconOfDoom (Very late update, 2020/08/30 - it's still going on ...)

Ansel scowled angrily, snarling at Leon in annoyance as he rolled his eyes, "That is absolutely not the case. I am find back home, alright? I'm just not used to such a strange and foreign culture. Signs of religiosity everywhere. And the first time I meet someone who is genetically-unclean, I mean disabled, sorry, disabled, okay so just give me a break? I'm still trying to get accustomed to everything around me, not quite acclimatised to it all yet."
Purgatio is an absolutist hereditary monarchy run as a one-party fascist dictatorship, which seized power in a sudden and abrupt coup d'état of 1987-1988, on an authoritarian eugenic and socially Darwinistic political philosophy and ideology, now ruled and dominated with a brutal iron fist under the watchful reign of Le Grand Roi Chalon-Arlay de la Fayette and La Grande Reine Geneviève de la Fayette (née Aumont) (i.e., the 'Founding Couple' or Le Couple Fondateur).

By the sounds of it Camelon did sound quite a bit like Kuronami in its culture so she probably would fit in fine.

Ida smiled, happy, that Asuka was well-received on their island of a little bit of sanity, refusing the snacks and coke with a polite bow of her head. They would ruin her figure, especially as she did have a bit of a sweet tooth.
"Try Lemonade one day.", she suggested, "At least how we do it: Sugar, sugar, a bit of lemon juice and sugar. Did I mention the sugar?" She grinned at that. "But seriously, no need for formalities with me as well. Just call me Ida."
She knew about the cultural implications that had in some cultures, but she was not sure, whether the one Asuka came from was one of those (but she would be willing to bet on it).

A boy, looking to be around 15 comes stumbling in. His hair is not combed and he has not taken a bath in awhile. (Am I late. I am always late. I am sorry." He grabs a bottle of soda. "Refreshing. So, what did I miss?" There is no official sign up sheet, so is this how we enter? 1 question, is this on Earth?

Leon

"Sorry," Leon apologised, "I was unfair then. I'm just hypersensitive to that sort of stuff since it's so common where I'm from. I don't really get the religion either...I mean we're religious back home in a way, but we wouldn't base our whole country around the gods. To do so would be pretty insane, don't you think?"

Isaac
"My problem lately has been keeping my brother safe in it," Isaac remarked. "I can't hear him too well but he's already planning a drinking trip...most likely, the kids an alcoholic I swear."
Isaac leant forward to show him a very definite lump in his back "That's from lifting him up when he was a total dead weight," he explained, laughing, "So yeah. We've agreed that we're not rooming together this time, he wants that as well. So I'm free!" he sounded very happy at that situation, even more happy when he rummaged to the very bottom of his bag.
"Coke?" he asked, "That's a mixer isn't it? I heard about it once...it's one of those things whiskey goes with." He showed the little group a medium-sized bottle of farely good Celari whiskey; "Stronger coke, anyone?"

Isaac stared daggers at Ida, unable to understand what she'd just done. "Did you..." he began "Did you just refuse snacks? You know quite how offensive that is, right? Do you think of me as poisonous?"

Isaac still looked flustered.
"It's just a cultural thing," he explained, "Like...when something's offered to you like that, you don't turn it down. That's like dancing on your fathers grave level offencive, if you get what I mean. I'd only do it to someone if I really, and I mean seriously hated them...bare in mind I'm 19 and I've never done it yet."
