Nation Name: Kingdom of Pantara
Government type: Absolute monarchy
Name and title of Nation Leader: King Mappanganro III (real name Reza Ramadhan)
Demonym: Pantaran
Official language(s) (de jure): Pantaran (Indonesian)
Commonly spoken language(s) (de facto): Pantaran, many regional languages, mainly Sundanese and Buginese, Albionese (English), Basa Walanda (Dutch), Basa Varanchis (French)
History: Pantaran is an ancient civilization, dating back thousands of years ago. For centuries it remained peaceful, a hub for cultural and economic exchange, until foreign explorers came and sought the riches and the bounties of our nature. This has caused war between Pantara and the barbaric kingdoms of Walanda, Varanchis and Albion, as well as the faraway empire of Panonpoe. With the help of God, Pantara's nature and its people's ingenuity, Pantara did not only survive, but also managed to colonise the lands of those who threatened it and puppeted the nearby kingdom of Kaladesh. These victories gave rise to a new age for Pantara, which led to the kingdom's iconic duality, its affinity to combine principles that would seem to oppose each other to non-Pantarans, mainly science and religion, technology and nature, and tradition and progress. This made Pantara a technologically advanced and ecologically friendly kingdom.
RL Cultural Inspiration(s): Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries, with influence from China.
Religion in you nation: Mostly Islam, with some Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism. Christianity is quite common amongst the lower class.
Economic Info: Socialist economy, major industries include mining, fishing, and spice trade, as well as manufactoring and export of cultural goods, such as sculptures.
Military Info: The military prefers quality over quantity, creating a small, yet efficient armed forces. It still uses cavalry, albeit with unique Pantaran animals instead of horses. With the recently discovered bara (napalm), mesin gelombang cakap (radio), Eter (blue liquid substance that powers machines) and mesin apung (planes), as well as the aid of Pantaran wildlife, the Pasukan Kerajaan Pantara, or Pantaran Royal Armed Forces, is a force to be reckoned with. Size is 17,200,000 people.
Est. total land area (mainland and colonies): look at my pic and tell me
Est. total population (mainland and colonies): 426,000,000

Pantara: 82 million

Walanda: 50 million

Albion: 60 million

Varanchis: 78 million

Panonpoe: 76 million

Kaladesh: 80 million

Other Interesting Facts/Info about your nation: TL;DR Steampunk Indonesia with animals from Avatar.
RP Sample: The clear, blue sky was smiling upon the warriors mounted on the backs of the massive beasts. With courage in their hearts, they charged forward as they praised God in their battle cries, quickly decimating the opposition.

Well a couple of things here. First and foremost, avatar beasties probably stretch the bounds of what is allowed. While we do allow custom fauna, it's usually only done sparingly and for more or less realistic creatures.

Second, your population is frankly too large in a couple of manners. In terms of absolute population percentage, its almost 1/4 of the world's population.

Third, could you please expand upon your RP sample? Or provide one that is at least a few paragraphs?

So doing that would work, or shall I crack out my already-made nation and see how I can work it into the setting for an app? For reference, I tried to start with Steampunk, but now I think I've established that the nation would have widespread radio and gas/diesel/steam automobiles. I think that might be too advanced? I'd have to skim through past threads in the OP :p

I say go for whichever sounds the most appealing to you! The worst than can happen is we say "no" or, more likely, we'd offer some constructive criticism to help your nation fit in, as long as you've proven yourself to be a decent RPer and that you're willing to work with us :)

Oui.

Hmm...might just try to adapt my already-existing nation, actually, if I can't make either one work. I have most of an app done with it anyways. I've just been slow because I've been tired and not feeling well all week, so I haven't checked NS much.

On another note, what about pirates? I only ask because the thought came to me out of the blue, and I love pirates and plundering, and pirate havens/republics. Then again, I suppose it wouldn't make it easy for attending various RP's, so maybe not...but someday, maybe. Oh well.

I just have a big soft spot for pirates.

Lol. But muh sea shanties.

Hmm...thinking of either Mizrah or Pahada. My nation would be multinational/multi-ethnic anyways, so if Pahada, would a fusion of different European and Arab/Asian be fine? I was thinking a small, mostly coastal nation, where maritime trade or travel may be common, so if it were a former colony or protectorate that promoted it, a fusion of cultures could be a good explanation for it.

I assume, being South and East Asian themed, Pahada would have cultures similar to Turks/Mongols and Indians anyways, or Arabs.

Pahada and Mizrah are indeed a melting pot. That would probably work in the southern coasts of Pahada or northern Mizrah.

Just because many (if not most) of the nations in the Vapor universe have turned their attentions skyward doesn't mean you can't have a maritime focus, or seafaring pirates. Hell, our flight technology IRL has progressed far beyond the wildest dreams of anyone in Vapor, and the "golden age" of piracy may be far in the past, but we've still got some pretty terrifying pirates out there prowling the oceans

If possible, I'd like the rest of Tiantian and the (at least a good chunk of) southwestern part of Nordesia bordering that area. Going for a country influenced by Imperial Japan, Korea, the Tibetan Empire, and lots of influence from the Portuguese Empire and the Dutch Golden Age.

Hmm....ironclad pirates and captured dreadnoughts do sound intimidating...

Anyways, I have a map claim, but not finished with the app just yet.

So, may I assume that the tech level or timeline is around the Late Victorian Era, or Early Twentieth Century? Give or take a few years, of course.

OK! Please fill out a proper app (listed as a code in under the "How to join our group in 2 steps" spoiler in the OP), including an RP sample and we'll see about adding you to the group and the map :)

More or less. We've taken a few liberties here and there, but all within reason. Think Jules Verne, then take a couple steps back.

Excellent tech level then :p

I suppose landships and early mechanization is still a ways off, but at least mass-production and iron warships are acceptable then.

Anyways, spent a while writing this. Was gonna go with Avilgion as-is and just adapt for Vapor, then I wanted to change it to a Monarchy, then I sort of compromised on the idea, and I'm still working out kinks. I hope it's not too awful though.

Nationstates Account: Torsiedelle/Rostavykhan
Nation Name: Grand Duchy of Avilgion
Government type: Absolute Monarchy
Name and title of Nation Leader: Archduchess Gertrude Morrigan von Hyraklion, Marshal Octavius Salazar
Demonym: Avilgian
Official language(s) (de jure): Greek, English
Commonly spoken language(s) (de facto): Greek, English, French, Arab, etc.

Brief History: Established as a trading colony, Avilgion was steadily expanded, and became a busy trading colony. Companies such as the Markaz-Mahaan Trading Company and Cape Azule Tea Company began to compete and bring a large influx of revenue to the region, and the favorable climate and volume of shipping in the region allowed various cash crops to flourish, bringing great profit both in domestic and overseas markets.

Formerly ruled by the Valarian Monarchy, Avilgion was a totalitarian state in which nearly every aspect of citizen's lives were controlled by the government. This order was broken on the day the Royal Palace was bombed, after military officers planted barrels of gunpowder in the cisterns beneath it. The King and Queen were killed, and as the surviving Princess Valarian rallied loyal forces, Republican rebels spread like wildfire across the country. The Avilgian Civil War lasted for only a few years, but its intensity left even the safest cities touched by violence and death. The war eventually ended in the battle of Hyraklion's victory by The Republicans, and the suicide of the last surviving member of the Royal Family. Following the establishment of an interim military government, The Great Purge saw thousands of royal politicians and allies publicly executed, and a surge in the presence of soldiers across Avilgion as the new order wiped away any and all resistance it could.

In the following decade, the military government eventually gave way to The Elysians, a religious and political faction that promised a new golden age, though many of their policies eventually ended in a greatly weakened economy and the abandonment of housing projects and industrial wastelands across the country. These projects would only be renovated and done away with after the Avilgion Economic Boom, under the next coalition government. At this time, several industries exploded in popularity, including arms manufacturing, a regrowing tea and spice trade, and automotives.

In recent years, the Monarchy has made a return. Following electoral fraud and a spike in violence by elements tied to the Avilgian Syndicalist Party, a new military government was enstated. Led by Marshal Octavius Salazer, the new Archduchess of Avilgion, Gertrude Morrigan von Hyraklion, was given the title of monarch. Though a parliamentary monarchy, unlike the previous one, The Archduchess still wields a great deal of power in the Avilgian Military Government, and has become known for her harsh legislation and strong-armed domestic diplomacy.

The new Monarchy and Military Government has been met with distrust and anger initially, but in recent years has come to be popular. Marshal Salazar himself, a popular general, has worked with the adored Archduchess Gertrude to pass legislation favoring Avilgian workers and industry, moves they hope will help keep the nation power. Surprisingly lenient in her sentencing, The Archduchess has also refused to dissolve the Avilgian Syndicalists, although harsher actions have been taken against unlawful protests and actions by its members, as well as smaller political parties. Finally, under Archduchess Gertrude and Marshal Salazar, Avilgion's military has begun to modernize rapidly, as the Army and Navy upgrade and mobilize to defend both domestic and maritime trade.

RL Cultural Inspiration(s): Western Europe, Mediterranean, North Africa and Central Asia.
Religion in you nation: Avilgion is diverse in the amount of religions practiced within its borders. Most Avilgians practice various forms of loosely-structured folk religions, and many foreign customs and beliefs are absorbed or incorporated over time into Avilgion.
Economic Info: Avilgion is a mercantile nation; Maritime trade, especially in spices and tea, are a great economic boon to the nation. Cash crops, such as cotton and tobacco, are also shipped overseas, and poppies are grown for a small, regulated opium trade. Outside of agriculture, industry has quickly grown in Avilgion, such as steel production, arms manufacturing, and textiles. Industry is largely concentrated in the larger coastal cities of Avilgion, as well as in the north of the nation.
Under the rule of Archduchess Gertrude, the economy has seen a degree of government intervention and control. Government involvment was introduced to protect Avilgian workers and regulate against monopolies.
Military Info: The Military of Avilgion is divided into the Army and Navy, with both branches having aerial branches devoted to the operation of airships and balloons, and the development of flight technologies. The Army of Avilgion is the largest branch, with roughly three-hundred and twenty-thousand active soldiers, and just over three-million reserve forces. The Avilgion Army is currently heavily investing in mechanization efforts and testing of new weapons and tactics, including the testing of incendiary and chemical weapons, various forms of body armor, and the construction and maintenance of fortified trenches and fortresses along its land-based borders. A large number of coastal forts and naval bases are maintained by Avilgion, and house its fleet when ships are not deployed.

Est. total land area (mainland and colonies): 43,000km²
Est. total population (mainland and colonies): 11.29 Million
Proposed land claim (drawn on a map): The red-coloured land in Pahada, on the Markaz and Mahaan Sea Coasts
Other Interesting Facts/Info about your nation: - Celebrated by Eastern Colonists in the seventeenth century, Autumn's Harvest is a celebration held in late October in which communities nation-wide erect idols and animals and spirits, decorate their homes with autumn colours and pumpkins, and pay respect to the spirits. In the modern day, it is popular for friends to tell scary stories and attempt to trick each others. After the Harvest, large feasts are held, and parties held in town squares.

- First manufactured in the mid-19th century, the Albrecht Needle Rifle was the first bolt-action repeating rifle adopted by the Avilgian Army. It featured a rigid, straight bolt, and a three-shot tube magazine, and could be fitted with a bayonet similar to those used on other contemporary black-powder rifles. It remained in service for over a decade before being replaced in The Army, and remains in service with Avilgian militia, coast guard, and Navy Reserves.
RP Sample: I'd have to think back on possible examples here. I've only stuck to one RP for most of my time on NS, so yeah...
EDIT: Oh! here! It's short, but one that stuck out to me.

I'm intrigued by the concept of your nation, but some of the admins and I were discussing your size. Your population seemed a little high for such a small land area, then I noticed that you had said it was over 2 million sq km, which is about the size of Greenland IRL (much larger than what you drew). So we're going to have to do something about that.

You can write as much lead-up as you like; however you want to write it is fine, but we will begin mingling once we've all arrived at the palace.

Greenland? Oooooooh shit.

I was trying for Denmark...FML, I'm awful at math. Sorry. As for population, I can knock it down. I didn't realize I'd made the land area so big; I honestly haven't ever had good experience with land areas and measurements and scale.

Lol it's ok! The method I used when calculating my numbers was to eyeball which RL nation occupies about the same amount of space, then look up that nation's numbers on Wikipedia. That's actually the purpose of this map posted in the OP -- to help you compare yourself to more familiar landmasses.

Is having a navy worthless?

I imagined having my navy be my main focus, as in ships equal to the First World War's caliber. If it's zepplins and biplanes that I'm up against, I'll keep the navy. Thing is, if everyone has flying battleships the need for a navy is zero.

There's no flying battleship. It's mostly gonna end up as advanced zepplins probably. A Navy is very much worth it

Also, is my claim going to be added soon?

I circled my claims in light blue.

...That's what I did :?

EDIT: Looked up an encyclopedia. Apparently 43,000 square kilometers. As for population, Between Seven Million and Fifteen Million?

Honestly, I'd kind of forgotten I hadn't added it lol. I have a few things to take care of this morning first, but plan to post a response at the gala sometime later today; I'll update the map with your claim then

@Razonica - The Admins and I are fine with the modern incarnation of your nation. There is but one change we would like to make to your history in regards to technological advancement. While we are fine with you having developed primitive gunpowder weaponry on your own, we would prefer if you traded for/bought the more advanced technology sometime in your past from an Old World power. As I said, this is just changes to your history not modern one. Your nation can be industrial and more or less on par with the rest of the world. We'd just rather you got that technology in part from the old world rather than somehow independently developing it on your own.
