Quick Character Biography: Ryan was an illegitimate child, an unwanted accident, in the callous words of his father. Neither his father not mother, both of the lesser nobility, wish to be marred by his presence, so his father snuck out the night of his birth and deposited Ryan in a convenient sewer, covering his mouth with cloth so Ryan’s cries could not be heard. Left alone, Ryan was eventually found by a fugitive, a con artist, who raised him, and taught him to speak, to walk, and to understand the ever present rats, whom the con artist, named Delamer, admired, for their common sense of purpose, and persistence. This continued for several years, until Delamer tried to trick the wrong people, and was killed by two knights. Ryan was alone once more.
One day, after having almost wholly failed to find food in the past week, he desperately looked at a rat imploringly, facially expressing his sole desire of food. The rat brought him food. Ryan began to supply himself, even eat quit well, off of what the rats brought him. He slowly learned to manipulate their wills, first using facial expressions, but eventually only his mind. He also helped the rats, and would disable rat traps and discover other sources of food for them, so that they had a surplus of necessities.
Having ensured his survival, he began to talk to the rats, and to discover their emotions. He then saw a women get mugged in a dark alley near his abode. Though he did not show himself, he assaulted and drove out the muggers with a horde of smaller rats. A gun discharged, but when he realised his friends were unaffected, he ignored, to discover too late that it had hit the victim. As the older women lay dying, she looked at Ryan vexedly, and then cried out in pain. It was none other than his mother. She desperately apologise, and was only half able to articulate their relation through her tears an convulsions, but Ryan understood, and was gladdened by news of his father’s suicide. With a loathing of the crime and a sense of fulfilment, he moved to Purth-Graje, hiding in the shadows, and fighting crime.
