Marcella suppressed her giggles and laughter "That is quite a mouthful indeed, Good Sir. We look forward to your service with us as well...And...Oh my word...I'm not sure we've assigned our ambassador to Kyrenaia."

"Yes, to my knowledge, you haven't.", Kunya said with a small smile, "But that has time, if you ask me, and I believe, that Vizier ben Sahid is going to agree. If the Five Deserts taught us one thing, then it is, that things have time and will take that time, whether we want it or not." He smiled slightly. "A bit like the oceans, I'd imagine?"

"Aha I'll have to talk with my Foreign Officer on that matter then and get to appointing someone. And yes quite a bit like the oceans in that respect, you're truly right on that point." she nodded.

The Ambassador smiled slightly.
"I must admit, to my utmost shame, that I am not much of a nautical person, so it will be a very interesting trip for me.", he said and the music slowed to a stop. He turned to the dance floor... where a young woman, around forteen of age, was approaching Gisella and Mahmut with a blush on her cheeks. "Watch that. Prince Mahmut is now forced to dance with someone else, for a third dance in a row with the same person would be seen as a slight against the other dancers. Now that girl brought herself into position and struck before her competition could and..."
"Your daughter is a smart lassie, isn't she?", Aurelia interrupted, just as Gisella was approached by a young man, around fifteen, already quite tall, dark hair slicked back, offering his hand for the next dance to the visiting Princess in a charming, suave way. "As is, apparently, Prince Tarek."

"No I understand. Being an islander surrounded by boats, sailors, fisherman and the like I often take for granted there are others who probably so much never looked at a ship much less been on one." Marcella's attention turned to her sister and her partner who looked like they were switching up. "Oh he's quite handsome." Marcella remarked

Gisella well mannered stepped aside "Of course." She replied to the young woman who wished for a dance with The Prince Mahmut. "He's all warmed up and should be smooth sailing for you." She then was offered a dance with another young man. "I'd be my pleasure to share a dance with you." She curtsied for him and took up position to dance.

Aurelia nodded. Indeed, the young man, who would be having the next dance with Gisella, was someone, who would turn a few quite heads in a few years, but even now, he was a looker.
Those, in her experience, were the most dangerous ones.
"The next one's going to be a fun one, if I remember my dance list right.", Kunya said with a small smile, then turned to Marcella. "I would offer this dance with you, but I do have two left feet."
"Which is why I would like to ask you, Marcella-Khana, if you would like to have this dance with me?", a new voice asked, belonging to a man with a weathered, but sharp-cut face, lean and fit in built in suit and tie and not in uniform. "Mahmut Nara, Utica-Met.", he introduced himself with a small bow, "We met earlier today at Utica International."
Accompanying him, and inducing small bows from both Kunya and Aurelia, was a smiling Sultana, who motioned for them to leave it at that.

"I'm Prince Tarek ibn-Khalid.", the young man replied as he took position with Gisella. It looked a bit awkward at first, for he was half a head taller then her, but that quickly vanished, as if he was used to dancing with a smaller person (which was the case). "And I must say, that the photoes do not do your beauty or your smile justice."
And while around them, the dancers took up position for the next dance, Kunya's daughter was leading Mahmut a few steps away.

Nara took the hand of Marcella as if it was made of the frailest of porcellains, then led her to the dance floor, where the last couples were arranging themselves.
"The next one will be a fun one to dance to.", he told her with a smile as they went into dancing positions. "Glenn Miller's In the Mood."
And as if that had been the signal, trumpets and drums started their song, the boys of the TBA visibly having fun playing the music, even without their leader, who had taken their singer (the one on loan from the HGA) to the dance floor, where the two of them showed off quite a few daring moves.
Even with the absence of their leader, the song went well.

Prince Tarek smiled, already knowing, who she had been.
"Why should you thank me for speaking the truth, Gisella-Amira?", he asked with a smile as he pulled her a smidgen closer to him, barely on the tolerable side by Kyrenaian standards and not that much further apart then Mahmut had been.
The song started, the Prince dancing with the Princess, a charming smile on his lips.

Marcella listened to get in with the rhythm of the song and once she was set she made her moves with him keeping and minding her steps. As she'd been doing this in the evening she was getting better at it it would seem.

"Aha I guess you got a point there. But I have to show good manners as expected." Now she was closer to him but she didn't think much of it other than maybe they just dance like this here.

Nara, a divorced man now married to his work, had been a good dancer in his youth and the few chances he had to dance during his service, mostly during state balls such as this, did not exactly help in keeping him up to speed. He was quite capable, though, not stepping onto her toes.
Thankfully for him, the bandleader and the singer were putting on quite a show, like only young people could, and he danced with Marcella calmly.
He was the head of security for this visit after all.

Mahmut threw a glare at the older Prince from his position, then concentrated on dancing with Kunya's daughter, her father beaming at the side.
"Indeed, we all have to. We stand as the future leaders of society and politics, so we should give a good example.", Tarek said and was in his element, a charming smirk on his lips as he looked deeply into Gisella's eyes. He was a good dancer for his age, especially with girls shorter then him, and did not step onto her feet, even during the fast dance.
In the coming years, one might call him a womanizer (much like his father), but for now, he was a charming young man, who set his sights.

"You're quite a graceful dancer. Then again head of security, you must have to be light on your feet and spry so it makes sense."

"Huh.", Nara laughed silently, "Thank You, Your Highness, but You would not believe, how much I sit on my rear end. I was spry and light on my feet in my younger days, when I was around Your age, but the higher I got, the less I moved... the dangers of ranks, I assume."
He nevertheless blushed lightly due to the compliment.

Tarek smiled, a small note of embarrassment in his eyes.
"I must admit, that I most likely train much more then you do, when it comes to dancing, Gisella-Amira.", he admitted with a small blush, "In my natural state, I suffer from an ailment known as 'Two Left Feet'-ia, even worse, I combine it with 'No sense for tact'-ia. Only through harst training, which would make the Army's Drill Sergeants proud, my Father brought me to the state I am in now."

"Ahaa. I see, that makes sense. With rank often comes more responsibility which often means more administrative work." she chuckled "I know the feeling of that all to well." Just made her anticipate more for when she and Aurelia could take a bit of time to be at sea together. No one can deny The Duchess quality time with the Princess she's in love with.

Major Nara nodded with a small smile.
"I can tell you from experience, that it is always wonderful for us to be acknowledged and to see our work being valued.", he told her in a whisper and let a beat pass. "Be it by the Sultana choosing one of us as her companion for the ball, or a simple 'Thank you', every time we are acknowledged for our work, we are happy about it." He smiled and leaned a bit closer as if to tell her a secret. "And it makes us work better, too."
As he retreated, he gave her a wink.

Tarek smiled.
"You are a lucky one.", he said without missing a step, "I have absolutely no talent for music or dancing, yet a Kyrenaian noble, who can't dance is absolutely unheard of!" He smiled a bit sadly. "So I was used to put your words, and those of dancing teachers all the world over to the test... and here I am. No one cares for my drawings."

Nara smiled as the song concluded, bowed his head in respect, not kissing her hand out of respect for her date. Crown Prince Ilia would not misunderstand, he was quite sure, but others might.
Still, he was glad and happy about her apparently enjoying the dance with him and surviving with both feet intact. It made him hope for the future.
"It was my pleasure.", he told her at departure.
There were quite a few people, who were looking to speak with the Duchess, from Vizier ben Sahid, who sat with his wife near the Grand Vizier, the two men talking about one thing or the other, said wife giving the occassional input, to the Sultana Herself, currently conversing with Aurelia's date, who looked like he would have loved to vanish into the ground.
And there were several Kyrenaian nobles, who wanted the odd word, one of them being Khan Khalid ibn-Faisal, who's son was currently dancing with Gisella. The dark-skinned man, his dark hair short, was a tall and imposing figure, which was not exactly made better by him wearing a perpetual scowl. The woman at his side, very pleasing on the eyes, dark hair and skin, blue eyes like sapphires, looked old enough to be Tarek's older sister, but she was not - but she looked more approachable.
As it turned out, the pair positioned themselves stratetigically in the path of the Duchess, the Khan speaking up.
"Ah, Marcella-Khana, it's a great pleasure.", he said with a bow of his head, taking three drinks from a passing waitress, taking one, giving one to his date, offering the third to Marcella. "Mind joining us for a drink?"

As the dance wound down, Tarek smiled slightly.
"Both, actually.", he said with a bit of pride, "I spent many hours in Caralis' zoo, watching and sketching the animals and people there, and then spent many hours in the gardens around my Father's palace, painting there." He was glad, that she showed interest - he was certainly more comfortable then on the dance floor. "It is a... calming hobby, but some people say, that I have a bit of talent."
He smiled as the dance wound down, finishing it true to form and then doing something: He took Gisella's hand and softly kissed it - not breathing a kiss on it, but his lips actually touching the back of her hand, which in Kyrenaia signified romantic interest.
"It was my pleasure to dance with you, Gisella-Amira.", he spoke to her, a light blush dusting his cheeks. "May I have the next one as well?"

"As was mine." She agreed. She then took a look around to the many other guests, no doubt she would be quite in demand tonight and she wanted to socialize more. It seemed before she could make a move herself someone else came into her sights to grab a moment with her. Marcella graciously accepted the drink offered to her. "Why yes, I'd love to. Ah forgive me have we yet been introduced? So many of your fine kinsmen I've had to learn and track, it's been a little overwhelming. I must have my Foreign Officer prepare a spread sheet for me." she laughed at her own little quip "Ah terrible joke I know." She cleared her throat.

"Ah very nice. While music is more my forte" A giggle at her little pun "Fine drawing is still very nice to look at." Once finished she curtsied for him and had to give a gentle response "It was a pleasurable dance as well. But I feel I should honor some of the other attendees tonight and my date."

"I've heard worse, believe me.", the man said, not even the hint of a smile on his lips. "And no, we were not yet introduced, but that's no reason to not do so now, now is there?" He bowed his head respectfully. "Khalid ibn-Faisal, the Khan of Caralis. My companion for the night and hopefully beyond..." A true smile, very small and barely visible, appeared on his lips as he motioned to the woman by his side, who bowed her head as well, hand over her heart. "...Miss Fara Bunr of the Tribe of Fermanagh."
"It's a pleasure, Khana.", she said, her voice sweet as honey, her eyes sparkling. "I heard many things about you... all of them good."

Tarek smiled a bit sadly, his offer for a further dance refused.
No matter how gentle she was, and she was gentle as the cool breeze, she still refused him. And he liked her.
"I understand, Gisella-Amira.", he said and stepped back, the next man announcing his will to dance with Gisella not a boy like he was, but a man and a very specific one. A man, who looked like he escaped the set of a pirate movie and dressed himself in a suit while leaving all of the make up on. "Vizier ben Sahid?"
"Indeed.", the man said with a grin, turning to Gisella, "If you would allow me the honour of a dance, Gisella-Amira?"

Tough nut indeed, not even a smile crack to humor the poor girl. She turned her attention to the lady Fara who adressed her. "Really? I'm happy about that! I never know where my standing is. I usually assume insignificant at best. Not as though I'm looking to be a power broker on the world stage."

He was a nice boy but her heart was already captured by Mahmut. She then was approached by a rather buccaneer looking man who had asked her for a dance. "It'd be my pleasure to share a dance with you."

"Oh, don't say that!", the other woman immediately protested, "Insignificant? No, that is not a word to describe such a wonderful young woman as yourself. Yes, the UIS is not a military or industrial powerhouse, but what you don't give the world in aircraft carriers and fighter planes, you give the world in peace, love and help to those, who need help." Even the Khan smiled slightly at her words as she continued. "Those are gifts to the world, that mark greatness, not insignificance!"

Tarek bowed his head once more, then retreated, his heart in tatters - a glance to the side revealed, that his father and his current girlfriend were chatting with Duchess Marcella, said girlfriend currently explaining something or the other.
He sighed... another lonely evening.
Meanwhile, Vizier ben Sahid wondered, whether or not he had been forgotten by the young Princess - after all, he had introduced her to Mahmut in the Little Hammam and had welcomed her to the Wheat Hall not too long ago, even promising her the current partner swap (his wife holding a relatively nervous Prince Mahmut)... then again, she had met many new people today, so it was only natural for the odd one to fall under the metaphorical table.
He smiled, as the singer, her face wearing a light blush after the show she and the leader of the Big Band put on, began to sing: "There may be trouble ahead..."

"Ah thanks, you're absolutely right! It's high time I start exerting confidence as a Proud Duchess. Then again I've always been proud of my nation and my people."

"Oooh" Gisella cooed out "I think...You were the man who introduced me to Mahmut, aren't you? And who greeted me earlier? At least I hope so or I'm really embarrassed right now."

"That's the spirit!", Fara said with a wide smile, "And they are people to be proud of, for many of the same reasons that we are proud of being Kyrenaians." She looked to her date for the night. "Wouldn't you agree?"
"Indeed.", the Khan agreed with a firm nod, "From what I've seen of the UIS, it is a good place with good people... granted, that was forty years ago, but I doubt much changed." He let a beat pass. "By the way, I kind-of missed much of the local fauna during my trip there, or is it all just marine life?"
"You need to know, that Khalid is not a water lover.", Fara added, smiling, "But a lover of all wildlife and its study."
The man nodded.

Ben Sahid smiled.
"I was, yes, so no need to be embarassed right now.", he said with a smile, "To be honest, I should be... after all, I'm not really used to people reckognizing me." Despite my rather distinctive appearance..., he added in his head as they danced to the song. "Enjoying your night so far?"

"F-Forty years ago?!" Marcella couldn't help but be surprised, she felt they were somewhat insignificant now few paid much mind to them way back then. "My goodness, long before I was born, long before we were ever the UIS. That's amazing!" She giggled, her eyes wider than wide. "So much has changed since then, the end of the Aurora Empire, the independence of Hoshino, the discovery of Animalpolis, the trustee agreement, the Unifying War, the reign of my mother oooh my goodness it's so incredible to think you've seen us so far back. And of course nature has shaped our islands more and more since then, land gained or lost by the rising and falling of tides the reemergence of species thought lost, the desecration and rebirth of primal jungle." she had to take a drink as her voice grew a little dry from her enthusiastic listing of history. "All leading up for me to be here today!"

Surprising given his appearance you'd think people would spot him more. Then again Gisella wasn't entirely sure.

"Yes, it's been a wonderful night. I've gotten to know some more people and my date a little more and share a good dance or three"
