Looking for foriegn advice on economic reform [CLOSED]

Postby Bruke » Sat Nov 25, 2017 2:38 pm

Greetings from Bruke. We, the Ministers of Commerce, Trade, and Finance, Sessen Teshome, Adinew Mesfin, and Tedros Negasso are seeking advice on economic reform. Our country has not opened up our economy to foreign investment beyond West American Union member states.

While we will keep the defense sector closed off to foreign investment, we wish to open up our economy without violating our existing laws.

In terms of goods and services: gambling is illegal, and alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and pornography, are all subject to a special sales tax.

In terms of media and the arts, all domestic and foreign broadcasts, publications, works of art, etc. are subject to decency standards at the national, provincial, and local level

Are these acceptable trading and investment terms for most nations, or are they an unacceptable burden?

Please share your thoughts.

Sincerely,

Commerce Minister Sessen Teshome
Trade Minister Adinew Mesfin
Finance Minister Tedros Negasso

"Honestly, I would think it would be up to the individual nation; If those terms did affect them or not, to many Nations those terms are like water under a bridge. Nothing, but natural. But to other nations, it would be a hindrance. So, the question it comes down to is; Who do you prefer trading with? Are you going for a certain group? Or are you attempting to trade with everyone?"

Why you don't want trade in defense? Our people are all warriors or in the grave; you need any protection we can help. We also help nations who want "open up trade" in other countries. Just leave our nation alone or you will surely die.

Nationalize all industry, invest in large quantities of education, so the people in your nation can gain knowledge and talent to invent new technologies. Increase agricultural and industrial production. Increase your military size. Punish those who refuse to work if they have the ability to work by forced labour.

Our country is highly urbanized and densely populated, so there is no space for any large-scale agricultural production.

As for defense, it is the strict policy of the Republic to give DDD (Domestic Defense Development), our national weapons and equipment manufacturer, right of first refusal for all defense contracts, and then if necessary only import from or collaborate with nations that are members of WATO (the West American Treaty Organization).

We have no intentions of or desire for starting a war with your country, King Ululo.

"I think the real issue is, you are seeking to trade with many Nations who have different standards and on top of that differences in what they want to trade or receive in trade. It is like dividing the world, if you ask one nation what part they want. They will try to take it all, unless you work to restrain them from such a choice. Many of us, may claim a way to improve your Nation; However, you only know how you can improve it. While within trade, I do not mind trading with anyone willing to a bide by the policy of trade given. Course my policy being the same as the Technocratic States. However, that does not mean anything; As the bottom line of this, is you only know in which direction you want to take this. Many people will not like the direction either way, but it is your choice in the end."

Current Trade Policy

Postby Bruke » Sat Nov 25, 2017 6:44 pm

The Ministers have noted your suggestion, Prince Hildehrand. Much obliged.

Our current trading policy is focused on dealing with fellow members of the Western American Union: Western Section, the Federal Republic of Regions and Roseland.

We promote our services sector, and to a lesser extent, our manufacturing sector. We have carved out a number of concessions to WAU member states in regards to agriculture, and manufacturing; specifically, dairy products, meats, grain, vegetables, pharmaceuticals, motor vehicles, and woodwork.

Since our main trade is in recyclables, intellectual property and raw materials. This is acceptable.

Recyclables and Intellectual Property

Postby Bruke » Sun Nov 26, 2017 10:32 am

Our country actually uses recyclable material to convert into energy or plastics. Perhaps if we have a shortage of material, we will purchase some from your nation.

Can you clarify your point about intellectual property? Do you mean you are a place where people go to register their work, or something else?

We actively purchase the rights to copy national libraries, purchase patents, and license technology. We will gladly sell scrap metal, plastics, wood, and other material we have recovered but cannot use. We have a surplus of scrap.

We must object to the copying of national libraries. They contain a nation's culture and heritage.
