Eustacio Karlos had already taken action and was not even in the meeting. This one went to the quartering of Infantry Regiment 16, where a revolutionary corporal had caused the majority of the garrison to lift: a captain and a captain who tried to oppose each other were shot dead. Entering the barracks with dozens of charcoalers, the naval commissioner then proceeded with about 100 squares to Artillery Regiment 1, where captain Afonso Palla and a few sergeants, introducing some civilians into the barracks, had already taken over the secretariat, arresting officers who refused to join. With the arrival of Machado Santos two columns were formed, that were under the command of the captains Sá Cardoso and Palla. By 7 am Ladislau Parreira, being informed by popular of the situation, dispatched second lieutenant Tito de Morais to take command of the San Rafael, with orders for both ships to reinforce the garrison of the quarter.
