Parliamentary Hansard — Election 2018: Special Coverage

Continuing from our [ first archive ]. Friday, 19 January 2018. Five months come the deciding day. A story of love and betrayal. Anger and sorrow. Old friends against new. A formidable ‘old guard’, who has turned against her entire party to “do what is right.”

The first chapter has finally started, and it will decide the fate of multiculturalism in Yohannes; the stories of thousands of families across the ethnic divide.

    Which side will Marion choose?

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN (Yohannes First Party; Electorate of Dauclutt): Thank you for this opportunity to address Parliament Channel and those who are watching this Electoral Debate tonight. I am delighted to stand up today and announce that the Nineteen Countries will be amending the International Incidents and Neutrality Act 2016, and doing it earlier than we said we would.

As we know, there are many individuals being victimised every single day in the many International Incidents we see by reading the International Incidents noticeboard, and the difference we make there, as far as doing our part not to contribute to this problem are concerned, will make the difference, and the biggest difference, for peace, prosperity and harmony.

The fact that we have, our nation state has hundreds of nation states as our trade treaty partners, and that the Nineteen Countries is part of that, I think, puts us in a place to lead and show others who we are as responsible administrators and worldbuilders of our nation state: to realise the amazing things that we as a nation state stands for: its beauty, its integrity, and, equally, equality in the way we treat others and the way others should treat us. This shows our commitment to peace and prosperity internationally, and the fact that we are going to be a part of that dream.

I must say that before I went here today, with regard to the immigration crisis we have seen since 2010, and the “racism” accusation that has been directed against me: know this. I know what racism is. I am the mother of two beautiful children to my husband, who is a Christian, African Yohannesian man.

    I love him.

He is my soulmate and my best friend. I saw the discrimination he experienced in the past. Our children are multicultural children; they look like me and my husband: the representation of our rainbow future as a nation state.

Racism is a very, very ugly word. My heart was hurt deeply when I heard individuals accused me of being a racist. It is used by those proponents of pro big business, pro slave wage exploitation, and pro mass immigration who want to shut down the immigration debate and bring about the destruction of this nation state as we know it through the lack of proper oversight with regard to immigration from Muslim nation states such as Khataiy.

I am not saying that nation states like Khataiy are bad; I am saying: we must fix our borders and help ourselves first before we can help those who need our help.

How can we help new asylum seekers and refugees if we cannot help those who have come here first? It is time to fix the immigration crisis. It is time to stress the fact that Sharia Law should never, ever be a reality here in the nineteen countries. Wahhabism is the very antithesis of a liberal, rainbow Nineteen Countries. And it is for that reason that I have stood for what I believe is right: for the future of our nation and people.

If Wahhabist asylum seekers and refugees from nation states such as Khataiy want to call this nation state their home: then they need to respect the freedom, love, and tolerance taught by the Lord Jesus Christ.

JIM ANDERTON: It is seven o’clock Eastern Lindblum Time, and we have the first important news for the night. Polls have been closing around the country, and we can project, now, that the Kingdom of Alexandria — First Alexandrian District, is going to be won by Marion Maréchal-Le Men. Twelve per cent in, but The Realm news projected winner for the Kingdom of Alexandria — First Alexandrian District, is Member of the Nineteen Countries Parliament Marion Maréchal-Le Men. A Christian Democratic, rainbow country district has voted for a bible belt candidate.

She has done the unthinkable — flipped a blue stronghold red. Two electoral votes for Marion Maréchal-Le Men from the Kingdom of Alexandria. What do you think Rachel?

RACHEL MEADOW: Very surprising: First Alexandrian District has always been a historically Christian Democratic stronghold. Let me show you the Altenmark local council in the First Aleandrian District. The raw votes here: all rainbow and ethnically “less white” than the rest of the nation state; with the continent’s highest concentration of openly declared lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender voters. But, tonight, they have voted for a very “white”, family values, bible belt candidate.

If the Kingdom of Alexandria is lost... we can say that Garnet Til Alexandros and Annabelle Thordon-Stevensonn’s election 2018 strategy has crashed.

CHRIS CARR: Alexandria, Alexandria, Alexandria — a historically rainbow district in the country of the Queen of Alexandria the Yohannesian Emperor herself, Jim.

JIM ANDERTON: Marion is not a traditional bible belt candidate: her husband is African Yohannesian. And her children represent the rainbow future of this nation.

CHRIS CARR: And now we have got three from the Grand Duchy of Dali — First Dalian District. Right now it is too early to call. We do not have enough information to access.

RACHEL MEADOW: The Electoral College can be a very complicated system. Well, Jim, again, I agree: her husband is African Yohannesian, and her children are multicultural. We also know that there have been a string of attacks against the LGBT communities by religious extremists from Muslim nation states recently. We are going into previously uncharted territory here — anything is possible.

JIM ANDERTON: I thought it might happen tonight, but I can now say that the Garnet and Annabelle campaign strategy has well and truly crashed.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM (Christian Democratic Party — Democratic Faction; Electorate of Gulleråsen): Of course, of course: Freedom, love, and tolerance. All these things meant, however, that we could not exclude, or regulate, asylum seekers, economic migrants and refugees from a certain faith or denomination, or a certain political system. Yes, we had no choice but to accept that there would be some problems, but they were few and far in between when we take into account the range of background and cultural differences of the millions of migrants out there.

I know: this is not an easy thing to do. For one, we have a completely different political system and nation state values from the nation states and societies of the more traditionally conservative religious societies of our would be economic migrants. And two, we are looking at nearly forty per cent of our immigrant and economic refugee being from traditionally social conservative societies such as East Asia and Islamic societies; many of those believers of Wahhabism and other very conservative values, but, again, problems and extremists exist in many societies and cultures.

Tonight, we will observe as the Member Marion Maréchal-Le Men will say big, bold words herself; stating that she will know what to do; that she will do this, that, this and some more of that, if you like, in her promises, and under her leadership they might just be doing that, because they have never been in executive council in the last four years; the Christian Democratic Party has been the incumbent executive council since 2014 — we did have some tough decisions to make and faced many problems along the way, one of which has been immigration and the increasing number of religious crises and civil wars out there affecting our net migration rate and political atmosphere.

We know that anyone can say, “Yes we can”, or “Bible Belt can work together with Rainbow Countries”, like that Member Marion Maréchal-Le Men will say multiple times tonight. But the fact of the matter is we learnt the hard way that compromises had to be made, and that we had to sacrifice some things to —

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Like our values as one united people, one nation, Abdullahi? And the many democratic rights we have enjoyed through the years because of the dedication and trackrecord of the previous generations?

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: I will say to voters watching today that of course as an executive council we can always do better in terms of bipartisan compromise, and reaching out to those who would otherwise not vote for us. I believe if we ask corporate leaders and large businesses today, if we ask the business community, and if we tell them to say what they want from the executive council; open channel for overseas workers to fill skill shortages are what they need.

Now, we can debate endlessly about what that means, and I am sure that many foreign national legislatures and other foreign nation states at different times would either go faster or slower and more open or cautious in terms of immigration, but I think that businesses need stability and the assurance from parliament here at home, as to what skill shortages and labour gaps can be filled, and I think that this parliament under a majority Christian Democratic Executive Council can deliver that again over the four years to 2022, whilst improving the state of immigration in this nation. So —

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: A promise made in 2014; a promise broken.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: I would invite the Member to join us once again and sit with us, because I have known her for a very long time, and I know that deep down she is a pragmatic civil servant with regard to the health of our many important big exporting companies. Madame Le-Men, are you a believer in a business friendly executive council?

You have been in parliament for quite some time now, and I am sure, Madame Le-Men, that you know that this nation state needs the economic surplus we are leaving for future generations. I am sure that I heard the Member saying multiple times since she turned against us that she would like to be part of this compromise on what it actually mean to make this nation state economically better for our future generations, and ensuring that they can actually experience the beauty and the opportunities that we have as Yohannesians in a multicultural society.

Immigration, even from high population growth extremist Muslim societies, is one way we can achieve that; for big exporting businesses and our people. Our future will depend on our open-mindedness to having people immigrating here to build and contribute to this nation state for us, and we can play our part to actually look after that the best that we possibly can.

And that is why I believe that we have administered the Nineteen Countries well. I want to see more of that bipartisan cooperation — and congratulations and even I accept that sensitive immigration related questions in parliament have been very helpful, but I understand that the Member Marion Maréchal-Le Men can sometimes be sidetracked a bit.

Whilst she actually thinks about what mass Wahhabism or East Asian immigration might mean for future generations, they might ask themselves whether, if we do not make our immigration system more open, there will actually be parts of the Nineteen Countries that economic growth will not increase as fast as they have over the last four years, and the scale of our economy will not expand as fast as it could otherwise be because our population growth has slowed down —

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Mass immigration without proper wraparound support is not the answer.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: Today is a good day for the Nineteen Countries and a good day for us internationally.

JIM ANDERTON: It is Economic Palace. And we have a result out of one more country now: The Grand Duchy of Dali — Second Dalian District: Marion Maréchal-Le Men, the projected winner in the second district of the Grand Duchy of Dali, with its eight electoral votes. Bible belt district, heartland country — not a big surprise here.

RACHEL MEADOW: Maréchal-Le Men with the lead; 10 electoral votes to Abdullahi, 0.

CHRIS CARR: Alexandria, Alexandria, Alexandria — that was an early indicator of things to come. The Christian Democratic Party — with its strategy to paint Marion as a “racist” — has backfired and crashed.

RACHEL MEADOW: I don’t know about that, Chris.

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: It seems, today is, quote, a good day for the Nineteen Countries, and today is a good day for us internationally, unquote: I challenge the Member Abdullahi Lindström to reduce the allocated number of economic migrants and refugees we must take.

I was out on the local electorate unannounced last week where people made the point that that Member — Chairperson of the Ethnic Diversity Committee — have not visited the Stockholm Refugee Resettlement Centre himself. But, just to show how far removed from reality that Member has become, I will remind voters of another fact.

Five years ago, that Member promised that if elected to office in 2014, he and the Christian Democratic Executive Council would review alleged corruption cases involving economic migrants from Islamic countries who reportedly bribed Economic Migrant officers to bring them in: these officers themselves being first generation people from the same nation of origin as those who bribed them. If there was any representative example of the crisis we have here, this would be it.

When I was a child growing up in the heart of Noble Treno, there were Khataiy, Souriya Al-Assad, and other Middle Eastern refugees taken in by the Nineteen Countries. We grew up on the same street. We want to have these people on the continent of Yohannes — our church and other local youth group organisations pledged that they would contribute; but they also emphasised that it should be about quality. Not quantity. The Noble Republic of Treno is unique this way, it is the representative of relatively open minded, yet controlled and responsible asylum seeking, refugee and economic migrant policy.

Today, second generation Yohannesians of East Asian and Muslim background in the Noble Republic of Treno are some of the most well educated, highly qualified on the continent: making up fourteen per cent of the country’s university graduates and postgraduate qualification holders. Their children are also better integrated: today, almost equal salary and wage parity as Yohannesians and native Yohannesi and Yohannesia in Treno; making up nearly sixteen per cent of their respective local regions' school board trustees and health district officers.

We can do this quality first, quantity second approach in other parts of the continent too. Yohannesians are faithful people to know that responsibly done assistance is a good thing, and I think that, deep down, the Chairperson himself know that. It is a choice: do we want more failures — academic, demographic and quality of life — or do we want success? Would we rather have quality or quantity? The same can be said about our approach to processing immigration applicants from East Asian nation states.

Moving away from sensitive immigration related issues, I want to tell the Member about the hardship — real, not fabricated — of middle Yohannesians under the Christian Democratic Executive Council. Yes, the previous Social Democratic Executive Council was at fault too; but the promise made to voters in 2014 was that that Member’s executive council would fix the mess.

The emphasis put on micro, small and medium sized mum and dad businesses was good. But sadly, gradually that got taken over by a more insidious approach to subsidising big businesses and bigwigs’ giant corporates over the common businessowners.

The emphasis on export has been a good thing — sadly, it has benefited largely big corporates both here and overseas, with small and medium sized exporters slowly being shafted aside as the big tent party lost its original purpose and slowly abandoned a good chunk of its original constituencies.

Homes for first time buyers and young Yohannesian families. The Christian Democratic Executive Council put through a Budget Reform that had distributed a much smaller number to solving middle Yohannesians’ homeownership issues.

Education. Only now that election is coming have they actually increased education appropriations and made promises and many other lolly scrambles kind of programmes for the middle of the road voters: 140.7 billion NationStates Dollars of underfunding that the executive council have produced since 2014.

Conservation lands not growing in terms of number to keep up with population growth; roads and infrastructure in heartland countries not expanded as much to fund export focused industrial initiatives in the coastal regions.

These were the reason I realised my mistake. I left that Member’s party two years ago because of the many promises that were broken: I was a part of the problem — without realising that myself — and I was a Member of an executive council who were getting busier with advancing the interests of the oligarchs and bigwigs instead of most Yohannesians.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: And are those of Islam faith not included in this ‘most Yohannesians’ category?

RACHEL MEADOW: Eleven o’clock Eastern Lindblum Time — the night is young, and let’s look at the electoral college map here: we have some important results to report — Burmecia: First District, Second District, Fourth District, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth — bible belt, coal and steel; no surprise in the third largest country, and largest of all the heartland countries on the continent: the Kingdom of Burmecia goes to Member and Electoral College President candidate Maréchal-Le Men. 55 electoral votes for Marion Maréchal-Le Men.

JIM ANDERTON: Reporting from the Kingdom of Alexandria — Second District, Fourth District, Fifth, Sixth and Seventh: 29 electoral votes for the Member Abdullahi Lindström.

CHRIS CARR: Our first toss up to go: The Realm can report that the Noble Republic of Treno will go to Marion Maréchal-Le Men: 9 electoral votes.

RACHEL MEADOW: The night is young. But the electoral college map points out to a much, much more expanded red wall —

JIM ANDERTON: It looks too bloated to be a wall.

RACHEL MEADOW: Battleground districts lost, blue countries flipped red: there are reports that the Garnet and Annabelle campaign team — that they are starting to absorb the seriousness of the situation tonight. Maréchal-Le Men with the lead; 74 electoral votes to Abdullahi, 29.

CHRIS CARR: Alexandria, Alexandria, Alexandria. One district of that very much blue stronghold flipped red. I told you Rachel, that was an indicator of things to come.

JIM ANDERTON: Again — a bright rainbow district being flipped red by a bible belt candidate. Never thought I would see the day.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: I have to say that I find it interesting to hear the repeated chants of, “Crises these! Crises those!”, and that, I must say, was all that she could communicate to the voters. That is pretty much the message from the other side the whole time. To that, I can say that the Nineteen Countries has been a successful nation state growing very well since 2014 — a strong nation state with a growing economy that can very easily rise to provide the living standards that all Yohannesians have always asked for.

When I turn my head and observe back from now, today, of all the things that the Christian Democratic Party have accomplished for the nation over the last four years whilst it is in executive council, I can smile of the things we said we would do — and, the executive council did just that. I know that in Election 2018, the Yohannesian people will, again just like in 2014, give us the opportunity to tackle the many problems facing this nation. I can promise that we will work hard to show the Opposing Forces that we are accountable to the people.

Tonight, after hundreds of nights where we have scratched out the previous Social Democratic Executive Council’s faulty legislation and turning nation state books green from red when we first took office in 2014, I can proudly say that the Christian Democratic Executive Council will be introducing yet another groundbreaking legislation next week to add to the 1,970 NationStates Dollars in tax break that 100.8 million households in the Nineteen Countries will be happy to hear about; over the last four years we have slowly fixed the income threshold and criteria, and now, I am proud to say that we can bring some of that tax benefit back to the voters.

When the previous Social Democratic Executive Council was in power, they took it away. I can project that it will be about 196.8 billion NSD in total cost — the same total cost the Grand Coalition Parties of the Social Democrats and Yohannes First will spend to make it tougher and tougher for business owners to find new labour; the loss income incurred from businesses losing profit because of much, much tougher immigration updates — all because the Social Democratic Party dislike Islam and Yohannes First dislike hearing East Asian languages on the street.

People will be looking askance when they hear that — the thought, of losing billions because of bigotry — because apparently they say that there should not be easy access nor open doors for asylum seekers, economic migrants, refugees and — Saint Maxtopia forbid, yes — even legal immigrants from Muslim and East Asian nation states. At the same time, however, they will be okay with seeing the number of intake of expatriates and immigrants from, “Nation states with closer cultures and values as the Nineteen Countries”, as Nickel Fallage would say; it’s okay, they should not be restricted to come here, because that is the absolute priority of the Opposing Forces: to restrict entry to this nation state only for people from certain cultures.

There’s no question that administering a truly multicultural society can be hard, and it’s always hard of course for those who must now compete much harder with changing times and new developments happening not just on the continent but also abroad — automation, information technology, the internet revolution, and, of course, continuing internationalisation — and yes, I agree that rising net migration have made it tougher for many people in these past few years.

I have spent a lot of time speaking to manufacturing labour unions and heavy industry workers, and I know the pressures that many workers have been under. This is the reason why the Christian Democratic Executive Council in Budget Reform 2017 last year decided to introduce the supplementary workers saving scheme for the hard working members of coal and steel Yohannes in order to make it easier for our hard working people to get by in the day to day sense, and if we will come back to executive council by the end of this, I personally will fight for further investment in this area over the next few years.

In saying that, when we are the executive council, we focus on targeted spending; localised and thorough to deal with the dominant issues, and to ensuring that the taxpayers contribution will not be wasted on frivolous spending. If we look at the GOP on the other side of the chamber, most of the time; one recent example, say, their public policy statement, where they promised 114.7 billion NSD to be invested in research universities and apprenticeship institutions; technical colleges and polytechnics. And let me ask Marion: what will she be getting from this? Will she have much, much more postgraduate students and produce more first class researchers from this hundred billion NSD initiative over the next two years?

To answer that question — no, thank you Marion, I will answer that question here: the Monthly Parliamentary Analysis report showed that twenty per cent will be the estimated increase in student intake and research schemes produced. From a hundred billion NSD initiative over two years. Why so low though? This is the reason why targeted spending is good; broadly promised “We will give you this and that” bad: one, lower birth rate for non immigrant Yohannesians since the eighties. And two, booming citizen sector and higher employment opportunities which meant more and more high school graduates opted for working first instead of “Going to uni” immediately after high school graduation. The same case can said for our applied polytechnics technical colleges and too.

And so because of that, we can observe from reading the Monthly Parliamentary Analysis that that 114.8 billion NSD investment demanded by the Opposing Forces — it’s nuts! What to get from that kind of big spending? Zero, zilch, zip, nada. So then say we are throwing 114.8 billion NSD for their demand — research institutions and other apprenticeship schemes expansion at the tertiary level — because apparently throwing away billions will produce results overnight.

They should be demanding for focused, targeted spending to break down barrier further for those who actually have what it takes to succeed at higher learning and first class research opportunities. But no, instead they will throw away billions for every students out there, spreading it out so thin that no one will benefit in the end. So, this 114.8 billion NSD: what can we do with this number instead? Well, many, many things. How about instead of spreading it out so thin, we concentrate that spending on those with the potentials to succeed and thus provide examples for the rest? Or we target that spending on certain institutions that are good at what they are doing instead? How about we target those who actually need the help? Handout for the sake of handout is bad.

Money, they come from somewhere: the taxpayers. That is the reason why we have always prioritised surpluses. Of course, if the Member Marion Maréchal-Le Men has somehow found a magical tree that can drop gold or silver apples somewhere out there: then I will be more than happy to see that tree and spend that 114.8 billion NSD over the next two years.

RACHEL MEADOW: In just about five seconds, we have got polls closing in five countries. In terms of what we can project at this hour, the crucial battleground swing country of the Regency of Lindblum: second largest country on the continent. Almost the entire half of that country did vote twice blue; but, at this time, it is too close to call — Lindblum being obviously the most closely watched country that is closing at this hour.

In the Merchant Republic of Landburg, right now it is too early to call. We do not have enough information to characterise the race to the advantage of either candidate. Also in the Democratic Republic of Cederström, we do not have enough information to make a projection.

In the Royal Realm of Cleyra and the Duchy of Gizamaluke-Grotto, we can report that they are too early to call.

JIM ANDERTON: Battleground countries; swing districts. I have watched some of the ugly stuff happening perpetrated by both parties.

“Maréchal-Le Men use her African Yohannesian husband and biracial children” to get the “black and native votes”, and the whole “Maréchal-Le Men likes her black husband because he got the big welfare and big black [*****]”[Note 1] mess, made by that very partisan Christian Democratic backbencher and Former Speaker of Parliament whose name I can’t seem to recall...

    CHRIS CARR: Lewd Gringrich —

RACHEL MEADOW: Big genitals, ha ha ha.

JIM ANDERTON: And the same can be said for the GOP; the grand coalition parties, the Social Democrats and Yohannes First, with all the inflammatory anti Muslim Sharia and East Asian languages dog whistling; and I have to say that both parties are equally bad in terms of how they can go so low —

RACHEL MEADOW: I am sorry to interrupt you Jim, but The Realm news can now project that in the country of the Regency of Lindblum, after studying the main districts in the Regency, we can now project that approximately half of the Regency of Lindblum will go to the Christian Democratic Electoral College President candidate Abdullahi Lindström — no surprise, another likely, historically sure stronghold for a blue candidate. The Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth, Eleventh, Thirteenth, Fourteenth, Fifteenth and Sixteenth districts of the Regency of Lindblum goes to Abdullahi Lindström. 48 electoral votes.

JIM ANDERTON: Well, that was quite the turn around.

CHRIS CARR: And, it is time to look at the empire-wide map. Here we are: Abdullahi Lindström with the lead; 77 electoral votes to Marion, 74.

RACHEL MEADOW: Just a teeny tiny lead for Abdullahi Lindström.

JIM ANDERTON: A largely collection of blue councils and districts in Lindblum; heavily multicultural and lack of GOP presence historically there — again, no surprise, Rachel.

RACHEL MEADOW: 270 is needed to win by either candidate — which we will continue in our next coverage. Democracy Nineteen Countries: Decision 2018. Stay tuned.

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN (Yohannes First Party; Electorate of Dauclutt): Thank you for this opportunity to address Parliament Channel and those who are again watching this Electoral Debate. I want to now touch on the great social crises of our time.

The Christian Democratic Executive Council want to pretend they don’t exist: this is clear by looking at Budget Reform 2017. It brought no innovative ideas nor does it “reform” anything beyond the paper itself. It mentioned the housing and social crises only, but after one year now, we can see that it has failed to address those issues — the issues exacerbated by the action, or inaction, of the Christian Democratic Executive Council themselves.

Let us see one example of their failures, talked about unknowingly by the Member Abdullahi Lindström himself, amusingly with pride: that the Christian Democratic Executive Council was spending 196.8 billion NationStates Dollars to give 1,970 NSD in tax break to 100.8 million households. But, what he did not say was that the Christian Democratic Executive Council would also—

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM (Christian Democratic Party — Democratic Faction; Electorate of Gulleråsen): And who are we spending it for?

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: For votes, yes — cynical lolly scrambles that won’t do much nor fix the crises of our time, that’s what they are. What the Member Abdullahi Lindström did not say was that his executive council would also throw 67.2 billion NSD for export industry credit.[Note 1] So now we can see that that’s almost one third of the 196.8 billion NSD tax break that would be directed for, yes, again, big businesses and big industry, instead of schools; hospitals; housing and accommodation programmes: our people.

Big businesses, big industry. Since 2014, the Christian Democratic Party has not done much to solve the infrastructure and housing crises of our time. They did, however, build many, many roads; that, I must give credit where credit is due. But families can’t live in roads, nor can our children learn how to write or read in roads. And yes, patients can’t be treated in roads also. And finally, roads won’t reduce artificially inflated population growth. This, the executive council caused by allowing for the excessive and irresponsible increase of our already very high asylum seeking and immigration programmes.

But why? Is it all for diversity? I know what diversity is, and that is not the reason. One, they want to desperately keep wages down for big exporting businesses. Two, they want to artificially boost the nation’s consumer economy. Three, they want to artificially lift up gross domestic product growth and make it look good on Parliament Analysis Archive’s Monthly Report to Parliament. And four, they want even more foreign money — from dangerous imperial powers such as Great Nifon; or corrupt states such Khataiy — to enter this continent. These cashed up corrupt individuals and power groups would then flood our nation with cheaper industrial products and cheap credit currency to drive up housing and property prices even further in the Nineteen Countries.

We all have to pay for that.

Those are their main motivations. Higher and higher economic growth; no matter how artificial. Larger and larger money supply; no matter how corrupt or dirty. And more and more people; no matter how sustainable. The Christian Democratic Executive Council can debate all that away and try to deny everything, but there is no denying that every heartland, coal and steel voter, can see through it all since 2010.

That Member and his executive council have wasted the past four years with papers after papers titled: “I’m In Denial.”, with regard to housing and immigration related social issues. But now, but now, someone’s chickens are returning to roost. Those who had voted for the party that I used to know in 2011 — the Opposition Christian Democratic Party then — have finally realised that, “Hey, how come I can’t afford to buy this house? It’s 2 million NSD! A 2 million NSD house in this area of the city? That’s just insane!”

And then when they try to rent temporarily whilst saving, they will realise that the renting prices are also grossly expensive relative to what they will get for that price. So now we are asking where the — to quote The Hon Magdalena Von und Zu Schönbein last year — accommodation supplement assistance of up to 152 NSD per week, unquote, go to? And here we have got the answer.

We all have to pay for that.

Today in 2018, the Yohannesian people have finally realised that economic growth for the sake of economic growth is not a sign of success; without the accompanying social cohesion and social infrastructure foundation, economic growth is just that: growth on paper. Budget Reform 2017, their so called “Mother of all Budget”: was it a glass half empty or half full? After one year, we have seen that there has been no noticeable change in the construction of hospitals, housing, and schools, amongst many other things, to keep up with population growth. Their records give us an inkling that Abdullahi will keep it half empty come 2022, until much, much closer to the next election time again.

We all have to pay for that.

    The broken promises stop here.

To the Christian Democratic Emperor and Chancellor, I will say: “No. This is not the way administration and worldbuilding of a nation state should be like.” On the continent of Yohannes, administration and worldbuilding should tackle the high net migration led population growth; address the housing and social infrastructure crises; and put the people first before economic number on paper. They all should not be delayed in favour of some late call lolly scrambles designed so that the executive council will look like it is trying to address social infrastructure issues come election time.

We all have to pay for that.

It is true that the very high net migration projected because of the Christian Democratic Party’s artificial immigration ‘policy’ does boost capital expansion, consumer-led growth, and labour participation for big businesses on paper — especially in our largest urban areas — but, it does not lift up quality of life in terms of true production for the nation state or more working productivity, nor does it help social cohesion. If that’s not enough, it does increase pressures further on education, infrastructure, health, and housing. Properly done, it can be good. But done for the sake of economic growth on paper, today, Yohannes, we have finally seen the results. The ultimate price.

We all have to pay for that.

And so today, we can see the results. Since 2014, the Christian Democratic Party have not fulfilled their promises; they have not fulfilled our dreams. One can say that they have not even tried. To their credit, however, it is true that they have fulfilled the dreams of our big businesses and big exporters. But one must ask: are they governing for the people, or for the big corporations and the big banks? The common street or the Economic Street? I have no doubt that the Nineteen Countries; we are facing one of the worst social crises that can be found amongst established economies — caused by four years of disrepair.

Today, we will see more homeless people on the common street, at the same time that the Economic Street has announced yet another new trading partner for the Nineteen Countries out there. Today, we will see more elderly renters finding it harder and harder to get by because of the executive council’s “Economy First, People Second” policies, at the same time that VMK has announced another billion NSD deal made in Caracasus or Great Nifon. They have prioritised spending for 2,814,000 more houses in 2017, which is unacceptable considering the rate of immigration fueled population growth we can see on the continent — we need thirty million more; not three.

We all have to pay for that.

To be fair, all those are known already by the common men and women because, yes, those three million houses are simply being built to replace all the executive council owned nation state houses demolished or sold off since 2014. Therefore, the real number is not three million: it is actually closer to eighty thousand. That’s just one real ‘reform’ from “Budget Reform 2017.”

And in future, we all have to pay for that.

If that Member will actually, one of these days, actually visit the Stockholm Refugee Resettlement Centre himself — and talk to both Nineteen Countries citizens and migrants there — or in electorates like North Halsten, southeast Royal Alexandria, central Dali, and other urban parts of the continent, and ask, “Hey, are there enough affordable houses that you can buy or rent over the next five years nearby the city centres?” I can promise that Member that they will send him and his party leadership a very strong rebuke.

Talking about North Halsten, according to Economic Palace the forecast houses to be built there can be counted to be around ten thousand or so over the next two years. That, happening at the same time that 5,904,000 more people immigrate here per year whilst overseas, people smugglers are still profiting from bringing economic migrants to the continent to help big businesses here fill cheap labour shortages. At the other, higher end of the scale, we have extremely rich immigrants and foreign investors with cheap money coming from fast growing powerful East Asian nation states like Great Nifon buying up our houses and properties like there is no tomorrow.

The fact of the matter is we require around 30 million new houses on the continent of Yohannes. Without executive council intervention, the citizen sector cannot see through that kind of building programme — by the own admission of Economic Palace in one of its previous monthly analysis of the economy reports. In fact, the citizen sector cannot build that many houses nor are there enough resources for that — how can there be? 30 million houses. Four years of an economy first, people second approach to nation state management and worldbuilding, and that is one of the end results.

Who can build that kind of number without at least greater coordination made by the executive council at the imperial level? The local and regional governments have long given up, and the national governments are heavily tied down by the resource management act since the nineties. This is just one example of something that the executive council at the imperial level could have addressed over the last four years, and that is just one thing that has not been fixed since 2014.

It is a never ending cycle of failure: high net migration will produce high social infrastructure demand, so the Christian Democratic Executive Council will invite more people here so that it can fill labour gaps with more affordable labour; make capital growth look good on paper; and build more houses, but that will also increase demand. The cycle continues.

It is a cycle that will continue until the Day of Judgment arrives, and Budget Reform 2017 had introduced nothing that could actually affect residential affordability in this nation, especially for electorates with high population growth registered since 2014 like North Halsten. That is, now that Member will know, the reason why I did say, “Mass immigration without proper wraparound support is not the answer.”

So what you can say about the Christian Democratic Executive Council is that it is clueless, as far as addressing the social crises of our time is concerned. Not only that, but it does not offer anything other than the usual, “Quantity more, quality less approach”, to nation state management and worldbuilding. Last year they tabled the Education Standard Act and Parental Housing Act 2017, and through it, the Christian Democratic Executive Council says it will, “Build 6.8 million new houses over the next eight years and reduce Universal Education Authority overextension and state and state-integrated school overcrowding by at least three per cent per year.”

But, in actual fact, that is quite simply not enough, after nearly four years of neglect. We need a much more imaginative and much larger scheme to help all those people who cannot buy a home of their own simply because of unaffordability.

Under my leadership as President of the Electoral College, I will ensure that there will be established a new superministry. I have wanted this for years, and I spoke for this approach to solving our social issues in my first speech for the 2010 Christian Democratic Convention. The new superministry will buy and manage land to assist the citizen sector. It will subdivide sections for more affordable houses. It will make sure that affordable houses are being built, and it will make sure that they are being sold off for genuine home buyers, at lower market rate.

Under my leadership as President of the Electoral College, we in the Nineteen Countries of Yohannes will revisit the Yohannesian Model of the past: more interventionist, more no nonsense approach to modernising our economy and catching up with the outside international community then — to solve the biggest structural social crises of our time now.

    Yes, we can.

The superministry will coordinate with the citizen sector to create other things, like housing guarantees, so that financial assistance can be realised for new schools, hospitals, and, most importantly, houses, on the continent. We will leverage the Quertz russling’s position as a known international trading currency — with more than one hundred nation states utilising it as our trade treaty partners out there — and use that leverage not to enrich big businesses and exporters as the Christian Democratic Executive Council have done over the past four years.

No, we will instead use it to fix the biggest social issues of our time. We will show that it will be about cooperative, socially responsible worldbuilding — not competitive, zero sum game. They will not be a burden on our taxpayers and they will be worth it in both economic and social terms, because houses, hospitals, roads and schools are great investments — socially, they increase social cohesiveness, they increase the efficiency of crime rehabilitation and prevention programmes, and there are many other social and economic reasons why they are great investments.

    Yes, we can.

Yet, the Christian Democratic Executive Council, year after year after year, after promising so much to the voters in 2014, and after withdrawing the nation state from International Incidents and other coffer draining international involvements out there, have done far, far too little to invest in social capital in this continent. It has relied almost entirely on the citizen sector to do so — gradually abandoning the well-developed Yohannesian Model principles of the past — when every citizen in this continent who knows what is happening has realised that the citizen sector players need help.

There has been many financial supplements made for accommodation by Budget Reform 2017 — estimated to be 50 NSD every week for two-member households and up to 100 NSD for larger households — but, actually, they were all done to make up for the increase in accommodation and housing costs we have experienced since 2014, which in turn has caused higher renting requirements produced by the Christian Democratic Party’s ineffective housing policies since 2014.

In conclusion, the last four years have been very upsetting for many Yohannesians because they have finally realised that the Executive Council will, again, not address unsustainable high net migration growth; because they have finally realised that the Executive Council will, again, not address unscrupulous foreign investors — from dangerous imperial powers such as Allanea, Great Nifon and many others — and, they know that they will not get the help they need for affordable housing and accommodation, less crowded schools, and shorter hospital waiting time. They know that there are not going to be enough schools and hospitals, and they know there will not be fairer policies for most Yohannesians on social cohesion and social welfare issues.

    It’s time for a change.

And today, change will come to Yohannes.

To the Member Abdullahi Lindström, I will tell him:

    Yes, we can.

JIM ANDERTON: Seven o’clock now in Eastern Lindblum, more polls closing, more results to tell you about — we will begin with a projection for Abdullahi Lindström. He is the winner — sorry, our projection for the City State of Coral. 5 electoral votes. A strong rainbow country: will stay in the blue column.

RACHEL MEADOW: And the Kingdom of Burmecia again, this morning — Twelfth, Thirteenth, Sixteenth and Seventeenth Districts, predictably for Marion Maréchal-Le Men: 20 electoral votes to grab according to our projections.

CHRIS CARR: Another one from the likely group, again, the Noble Republic of Treno: Second, Fourth and Fifth Districts, will go as expected to the Member Maréchal-Le Men, and the votes that were wasted in the primary are finally there: 16 electoral votes for Marion in Treno.

JIM ANDERTON: And in the Duchy of Gizamaluke-Grotto, both districts go to Marion Maréchal-Le Men. The Christian Democratic Executive Council kickstarted their Infrastructure Fund initiative there last year; we thought that would translate into more votes in the country: not the case. 10 electoral votes for Marion.

CHRIS CARR: The Duchy of Ice Cavern has just closed, and just as expected it goes to the Marion camp; with 10 more electoral votes from another duchy for the Member Maréchal-Le Men.

RACHEL MEADOW: The City State of Crescent also to Marion. 5 electoral votes.

JIM ANDERTON: Our second toss up to go; it is not a huge toss up, not a huge gain; but The Realm news can project that the Principality of Mandragora will be in the blue column by sunrise. 7 electoral votes for the Member Abdullahi Lindström out of the principality.

CHRIS CARR: And the Third District of the Democratic Republic of Cederström goes to Abdullahi Lindström as well. The Chancellor Annabelle-Thorndon Stevensonn had to campaign there, earlier this week. 3 electoral votes.

JIM ANDERTON: There are a couple of too early and too closes, but let’s look at what’s on the Electoral College empire-wide map right now: Abdullahi Lindström wi —

RACHEL MEADOW: I am sorry to interrupt you Jim, but we have a very important news. The other half of the crucial battleground swing country of the Regency of Lindblum: second largest country on the continent, has gone to Marion. Marion Maréchal-Le Men has done what she has not done up to now: and that’s to flip half of a bright blue country red. Half of the Regency of Lindblum, now cannot be easily categorised as a rainbow country anymore, has been flipped red by a bible belt candidate. Its 38 electoral votes now for the GOP candidate Maréchal-Le Men. She is the projected winner in the last seven districts of Lindblum.

JIM ANDERTON: And you look at the Electoral College map: Maréchal-Le Men with the lead; 173 to Abdullahi Lindström, 92. The Electoral votes. 92, he needs 270 to win.

JIM ANDERTON: I know this is probably the tenth time I have said this tonight but: Alexandria, Alexandria, Alexandria — a deep blue Christian Democratic district in a rainbow country flipped red by a bible belt GOP candidate.

RACHEL MEADOW: Yes, we get it. Your early prediction was right.

JIM ANDERTON: If the very much multicultural and rainbow Alexandrians were sold on her, what made you think middle ground “white” Yohannes would vote for Abdullahi?

CHRIS CARR: I saw Maréchal-Le Men’s husband attending her public campaigns in heavily African Yohannesian and native Yohannesia districts. Watching him addressing the audience, I thought it was him campaigning to get the “black” votes for the GOP there, not Marion herself. Why the Christian Democrats have decided to run the “We are multicultural, they are not” campaign line, considering Marion has a “black husband”, by the ugly admission of that very partisan former Speaker Lewd Gringrich, and considering she has historical connections with the party’s “black and native voters”, looking back, to paint her as “very white” was not a very smart move, nor was it fair.

    JIM ANDERTON: It was divisive.

RACHEL MEADOW: The old strategy to fight bible belt, “very white” candidate with a rainbow, “ethnic” candidate, it seems, has not worked this time.

JIM ANDERTON: That divisive, identity politics strategy has crashed.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: I am going to tell voters what the Grand Coalition Parties of the Social Democrats and Yohannes First will accomplish for the nation state: the GOP — they are going to wreck the Nineteen Countries economy.

From watching this debate, the very first thing voters can watch is about the hubris just spouted by that Member Marion Maréchal-Le Men with regard to her pipe dream corporate policy — I want to see that Member go to the local Bank of Yohannes manager in Khataiy or Argentinstan, where they are planning to do a major investment with water treatment system in Khataiy, or in Argentinstan, an urban high speed transportation network; and I want to watch that Member tell the regional bank managers that they can’t do that anymore: because she would rather have the capital be used in the Nineteen Countries. Not overseas. So now, the GOP is planning to not just tell you what to do: they are actually going to force you to do it. And they are going to break established agreements we have made with outside entities in the process.

They call it: “It’s time for a change.” We call it: “Communism by stealth.”

She say, “Yes, we can.” I say, “No, we don’t.”

Communism by stealth, like the Soviet Union of the eighties, is what you will get from that Member’s so-called ‘superministry.’ A vibrant, thriving nation state will be turned dull. The growth will be gone — there can’t be any growth under the GOP.

What about your bible belt voters; coal and steel districts? Are you prepared to tell them that, “No. No matter what we do, automation will still happen, information technology will still advance, and the renewable energy and clean, green economy is the way to go into the twenty-first century; not heavy dirty industries of the twentieth century?”

What about campaigning around the rest of the continent and telling large landholding farmers of heartland regions that they cannot produce certain things; that they have to reduce their animal stock and other assets; and that, as that Member said, they must do so because we all need to prioritise developments as dictated by the ‘superministry’ over what they want themselves? I want to see that Member visiting all the dairy farmers and wine growers in the Grand Duchy of Dali and other heartland countries, and tell them that they must now sell their lands at market price because the ‘superministry’ want to build more houses. I would love to see you do that, Marion, because thirty seconds is all that it would take before they kick you out and switch their votes to the Christian Democratic Party.

And with your populist friends over there — the Social Democratic Member for New Cleyra — the other firebrand, Mr Ronald Chump, has been running around in a comedy show all over the continent, proclaiming that he is going to tell “Big corporates to stop betraying the people.” The guy is going to tell big corporates to stop — a multi-billionaire himself.

Last week, he went to North Halsten, telling that same thing to those very same Muslim migrants he just ridiculed over on Parliament Channel the week before. The local Social Democratic candidate that was running for the local council had to distance himself from that guy because that guy would turn his local barebone majority red. Come on, GOP. Stand up and man up for once to show what you actually want to do to East Asian and Muslim migrant resident voters watching this debate.

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: What we want to do not for East Asians; not for Muslims; not for African Yohannesians; not for native Yohannesians; not for Bigtopians. What we want to do for all Yohannesians. GOP will govern for all Yohannesian citizens and legal residents. Thank you very much.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: Sure Marion, sure.

RACHEL MEADOW: We have three calls to make. In the Grand Duchy of Donata electoral presidential race. We have so far not been able to characterise this race. But in the deep south heartland country Grand Duchy of Donata, after sixteen per cent votes in, The Realm news can now project that the winner will be Marion Maréchal-Le Men. 25 electoral votes for the GOP candidate in one of the most conservative countries in the nation state.

In the swing country of the Duchy of Blomgren; thirteen per cent in. The Realm News can project that Marion Maréchal-Le Men will win the country. 15 electoral votes.

In the Merchant Republic of Alseca-Lorin, 15 electoral votes: it is still too early to call, with the Member Abdullahi Lindström in the lead. In the Principality of Ahlgren, 12 electoral votes; too close to call. In the Unitary Republic of Molander, 43 electoral votes: too early to call. In the First District of the Democratic Republic of Cederström will go to Abdullahi Lindström. 8 electoral votes for the Christian Democratic candidate.

JIM ANDERTON: And this is the overall map right now — you look at the map: Marion Maréchal-Le Men, 213; Abdullahi Lindström, 100. The Unitary Republic of Molander would obviously be a very huge blow to Abdullahi Lindström if he don’t win it.

RACHEL MEADOW: Chris, sorry for interrupting you with what you’re about to present.

CHRIS CARR: That’s fine. Here, I just want to show you something. I just want to show you about the raw votes. I just want to give you an insight into how the Marion Maréchal-Le Men’s campaign and the GOP are doing it. Here is the Kearley electorate in the Second District of the Kingdom of Burmecia. Here is both candidates’ raw votes right now in Kearley:

    Image

CHRIS CARR: Figure 1 shows two hundred and sixty-nine thousand votes for Marion Maréchal-Le Men — she has already got more than twenty thousand votes’ lead over Abdullahi Lindström with seventy-two per cent votes in.

Kearley is an electorate with one of the highest concentration of African Yohannesian and native Yohannesian voters in the Kingdom of Burmecia; in comparison to twenty years ago, it has got a much higher concentration of non-white voters. So under the old unwritten rule, a GOP candidate should’ve fared badly in this electorate. But not the case. This election — and this is a trend we have found across the continent this election — Marion as a GOP candidate has actually captured many of these voters: mostly Christian African and native Yohannesian voters; they have actually voted for a GOP candidate from a deep south heartland country. A similar trend can be found also on the other side in that a high concentration of East Asian and Muslim first and second generations have increasingly voted for the Christian Democratic Party since 2010 because of its pro immigration policy.

The GOP has struck a fine balance in this election by nominating someone with a strong historical connection with the Christian African and native Yohannesian communities; in doing so they’re finally seizing the multicultural initiative away from the Christian Democratic and Green Parties. It seems we are going to see a trend where Christian African and native Yohannesian voters would increasingly side with the GOP with Marion as candidate; whilst East Asian and Muslim Yohannesians would side with the Christian Democrats because of the GOP’s fairly strong anti immigration and economic migrant stance.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: First, the Member Marion Maréchal-Le Men, in her grandstanding, accused the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council of mismanaging the economy —

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: I did not say that — you put the economy first before the people; you have prioritised assets, surplus and number crunching so much that you have forgotten they are there for a reason; that is fact, and that is the truth.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: There you go. The Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council — we have done a great job as nation state administrator and worldbuilder. She did say “asset”; well here you go, Marion: Under this executive council we have increased fundamental nation state assets by 1.422 trillion NSD.

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: You realise they are mostly export oriented assets; not hospitals, not schools, and certainly no —

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM: No, we get it. Marion, it is you who don’t get the big picture. Without the huge support we have provided for our big industry and corporates, growth will not be there; and without growth there will not be security for the nation state. Remember: big corporations are people too, my friend. They are important.

Second, I am wondering how the Member Marion Maréchal-Le Men and the GOP are going to pay for all the things that they have been talking about this election; like creating this so-called ‘superministry’ to build millions of new houses and hundreds of new hospitals and schools over the next eight years, and all the other wonderful things that she has mentioned, like infrastructure.

The only way they can do it is by taxing corporations and business owners to death. Tax everyone — including the exporters who are making more than fifty per cent of the trade out of this nation state! Whilst they are actually busy out there at the moment, assemblying aircraft fuselages and importing industrial capital, let us make them go under, as Marion said. Businesses and exporters can go under!

My decision to join parliament nine years ago was to stop this urban and rural division we can see in the Nineteen Countries. And this election, with their stance, we can see that the Grand Coalition Parties of the Social Democrats and Yohannes First; that they are trying to exploit that urban and rural division for political success. This is wrong: we should all be working together. There is no substance nor consistency when one look at GOP’s policy.

There is not even any evidence that can be found in GOP’s policy. We pretty much have no idea where it will bring this nation state to, other than that they will create a ‘superministry’, and that according to the Member Maréchal-Le Men, the “Nineteen Countries of Yohannes will revisit the Yohannesian Model of the past.” A plan chock-full of empty promises without substance.

JIM ANDERTON: The Unitary Republic of Molander has gone for the Member Abdullahi Lindström. The Realm news can project there: 43 electoral votes. Pretty solid blue prediction there, after all. As we would expect, the Member Abdullahi Lindström will win the Unitary Republic of Molander.

RACHEL MEADOW: Marion Maréchal-Le Men, 213; Abdullahi Lindström, 143. 270 is needed to win by either candidate — which we will continue in our next coverage. Democracy Nineteen Countries: Decision 2018. Stay tuned.

Note 1: The Office of Export Industry Credit is an office tasked with supporting industrial exporters and the internationalisation of exporters’ goods and services through the provision of financial services, instruments of trade, and trade credit insurance programmes, through its affiliation with banking institutions on the continent (e.g. Bank of Yohannes). In 1914, the scope of the office was expanded to include the provision of financial services for non-exporting industrial businesses affiliated with registered exporters (e.g. VMK). Participating businesses must meet the Nineteen Countries Economic Benefits criteria as applied by the Export Industry Credit Administration.

Election Yohannes 2018: Special Coverage

Parliamentary Hansard — Election 2018: Concession Speech — The Hon Abdullahi Lindström MEP IOC

    Image
Election 2018 — Domestic Nation State Issues -- An excerpt from the two hundred and thirtieth parliamentary hansard: Saturday, 20 January 2018 — Volume 951; Concession speech — Subject to The Hon Abdullahi Lindström MEP IOC.

Hon ABDULLAHI LINDSTRÖM (Christian Democratic Party — Democratic Faction; Electorate of Gulleråsen): Greetings. Grüß Gott . Kia Ora. Selamat siang. As-salāmu ʿalaykum.

The concession speech made by the Social Democratic candidate in the previous 2010 Electoral College Presidential race for this nation state was delivered by the late Elected Collegian for the Tenth Lindblum District, The Hon Elias Molander.

Eight years ago, he seemed to have started quite the trend, and so my speech today will try to imitate his example, though perhaps somewhat poorly. The late Elias Molander’s concession speech to the late Sixteenth Yohannesian Emperor of the Christian Democratic Party Daniel Westernmost did not last for more than twenty minutes — that’s almost equal to the time he spent knocking on doors in the middle of heavy rain once as reported by the media. His was a gentlemanly short speech.

So, again, following his example, my concession speech today will also be brief but pleasant.

I would like to congratulate The Rt Hon Dr Marion Maréchal-Le Men and the Grand Coalition Parties of the Social Democrats and Yohannes First. The Yohannesian people have spoken, and they have spoken well. Marion proved these last few months that strength and persistence certainly bring equal prize for those who are willing, and have determination, to fight for what they believe in, and I would like to give both the emperor-elect and her husband my very best wishes.

    Good for them.

I would also like to appreciate and acnowledge the Former Leader of the Social Democratic Party The Rt Hon Jeremy Robyn for his long service to the Nineteen Countries on the continent of Yohannes. I believe he displayed valour by stepping aside to eventually make way for the current emperor-elect when he did.

My friend, I believe that it is very rewarding to look back to your concession speech in future once you have fully absorbed what happened, and when one compare the achievements someone has whilst running, my achievements do look a wee bit lightweight. I have been a frontbench Member of the Christian Democratic Executive Council under the Forty-seventh Chancellor of the Nineteen Countries The Rt Hon Annabelle Thordon-Stevensonn.

When Her Majesty Garnet Til Alexandros the Seventeenth Yohannesian Emperor announced her sudden wish to not run for office due to personal and family reason, I chose to nominate myself and was entrusted with the task of representing the Christian Democratic Party in this 2018 Electoral College Presidential race.

Even then, I knew the significance of the responsibilities that were entrusted upon me when I was nominated as a candidate for the Office of the Emperor on behalf of the Christian Democratic Party: if we lose the Office of the Emperor in 2018, we will find it much, much harder to table Bills and subsequently pass statutes, as we have done so easily over the past four years since 2014. And now, that has become a reality for the Christian Democratic Party.

But, this is democracy in action. This is one reason that I am proud to call myself a Yohannesian, as I hope you would too, our friends and supporters. It is from this everyday bargaining — take and give process — we watch on the Parliament Channel week by week, that we know we are living in a vibrant, thriving democracy. A strong, politically healthy nation state: the Nineteen Countries on the continent of Yohannes.

And so the title for this very short speech has been: “Disappointment, I have for myself.”

But not for you, our friends and supporters. It has been a truly special right — a privilege — to be your candidate in this election for the Office of the Electoral College Presidency. It has been a truly special right — a real privilege — to represent you, and your voices, in my previous debates with the now emperor-elect The Rt Hon Dr Marion Maréchal-Le Men. Through it all, the goal has always been to represent all of you — our friends and supporters —out there: to make your voices be heard by the entirety of the nation state.

Politics, for some, can be called their storytelling chapter. For me, it has been one paragraph — yes, one paragraph. One amazing paragraph. Yesterday, I was hoping that it would be a whole chapter in this book of my life. But I have been beaten fair and square by an old friend.

And so, in the end, I will say my goodbye and make my way to the exit door gracefully. I have truly savoured my more than eight years in parliament to represent my electorate, and now, to represent the views of more than seventy million Yohannesians out there, and I have savoured truly, I will say today, the fellowship that I have experienced with not just Members of the Christian Democratic Party in parliament, but also those Members of other parties as fellow legislators in our great nation state.

To our friends and supporters, I wish you all and your families well. To our new emperor-elect, until whoever will win the Parliamentary Race and Office of the Chancellor Election six months from today will be declared — the Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn Christian Democratic Executive Council: we look forward to negotiate and work with you and the GOP to bring about the best results in the administration and worldbuilding of this great nation state, for the Yohannesian people.

    Thank you.

Election Yohannes 2018: Special Coverage

RACHEL MEADOW: It is one o’clock Eastern Lindblum Time Jim, and there you go: the Christian Democratic candidate Abdullahi Lindström, his concession speech to his supporters in the capital city of the Kingdom of Alexandria.

CHRIS CARR: That Rachel — that is how you give a concession speech.

JIM ANDERTON: I agree Chris, top quality.

RACHEL MEADOW: And now, we just have to wait for the new emperor-elect to deliver her acceptance speech in the capital city of the Regency of Lindblum. Whilst we do so, let us look back at the electoral college map. More electoral votes have been gained by both sides; note the more than two to one lead.

JIM ANDERTON: She didn’t need any of those: many are from the deep south, bible belt countries. This race — it has been a bloodbath for the ruling Christian Democratic Party.

RACHEL MEADOW: Yeah, and who did say it would be a close one again?

JIM ANDERTON: Not me, Rachel. Remember? I did say from the beginning: Alexandria, Alexandria, Alexandria.

CHRIS CARR: It was me: I thought it would be a close one. But, I then see the early raw votes in electorates like Kearley and that was when I realised that this election; it would be more complicated than the usual deal.

RACHEL MEADOW: Interesting, now that we are filling the time slot, so to speak: harmony between bible belt voters and rainbow voters; the traditional deep south red coal and steel heartland and coastal blue new technology frontier — would the result of this election prove once and for all that these are all just outdated terminologies, as far as elections at the imperial level and politics on the continent of Yohannes are concerned?

JIM ANDERTON: I don’t know about. Whilst there has been considerable attention to the “straight white” proportion of the vote falling to a record low of just above seventy per cent this election, the raw votes presented by Chris before also gave an inkling of the drop in voters who identify themselves as “white” voters, census wise; that is, they chose to tick the “Yohannesian” box instead. On one side, this does indicate to the possibility that we are more united as a nation state than, say, fifty years ago during the height of the African Yohannesian and native Yohānnesi protests as well as the anti lesbian, gay, bisexual and transexual discrimination demonstrations. We have grown so much these last fifty years; and to see that, in fact in 2014 we elected our first lesbian Chancellor — Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn — I think that was just, “Okay, this is amazing. I can’t believe this actually happens within my life time!”

RACHEL MEADOW: Ha ha, that’s true Jim. I was very proud of Thorndon-Stevensonn for breaking that barrier, as a proud lesbian woman myself. And if that was not enough, the candidacy of Abdullahi Lindström himself, who I must add was adopted from Khataiy, and is a proud practitioner of Islam; it shows that more than seventy million Yohannesians out there, over the past few nights, have been able to look past one’s skin colour — and religion — and choose one’s candidacy based on their and their party’s policies; “Policy First, Identity Second”, as they would say.

JIM ANDERTON: I am sorry Rachel, but this is where I will have to respectfully disagree with you. I mean, did you remember the presidential race that was won by the late Sixteenth Yohannesian Emperor Daniel Westernmost in 2010? I saw quite some heartland voters there that, last night, they went the other way and ticked the other box, so to speak. I mean, Rachel, they voted for the same Christian Democratic Party that was offering pretty much the exact same pro-immigration, pro business — “Economy First, People Second” policies, as our new emperor-elect said herself in the previous debate — as we have seen the past eight years now, and yet, tonight, these same people, who have for long voted for the Christian Democrats and, or, the Greens, now they have voted for pretty much ‘the other guy’; or should I say this time, ‘the other girl’. I mean, did you see the projections made for that one district in the traditionally blue Kingdom of Alexandria alone — red, through the roof!

CHRIS CARR: I will have to agree with Jim on this one, Rachel. I agree that, shall we say: even today in 2018, there are still some Yohannesians out there who would vote the other way based on the first name of one of the candidate alone: if that’s not implicit bias, I don’t know what is.

RACHEL MEADOW: Or, we can look at this whole thing the other way: events developing outside our continent, the International Incidents — here, let me name you some of the most popular ones: the Civil War in Khataiy; the Qaidi Civil War, the bombings, terrorism, discrimination faced by thousands of LGBT individuals in these Arab nation states... I believe that might play into the, unfortunately yes, subtle prejudice even the pro LGBT, pro multicultural rainbow community here back home have for anything Islam related — or religious related, for that matter.

JIM ANDERTON: That, combined with the concerted drive made by the GOP under Marion Maréchal-Le Men to court the African Yohannesian and native votes —

RACHEL MEADOW: Oh, sorry I have to interrupt you, Jim, look at the screen.

ANNOUNCEMENT: Ladies and Gentlemen — the next first family of the Nineteen Countries of Yohannes.

    [
... the newly elected Eighteenth President of the Electoral College: the Yohannesian emperor-elect, and her multicultural family — her husband His Honour Jeremiah Meyer, the Fifty-seventh Regional Court Judge in the Kingdom of Burmecia and an established community and religious leader in the local African Yohannesian community; and their two adoring daughters, six-year-old smiling Shaniqua and four-year-old mischievous-looking Aliyah — revealed themselves from behind the curtain... ]

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by thousands of young women, all around the celebration ground as far as the eyes could see... ]

    [
... PHEW PHEW PHEW, thousands of whistles reverberated all around the celebrating ground... ]

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by thousands of young women, all around the celebration ground as far as the eyes could see... they continued... ]

    [
... YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!, thousands chanting; their cries of joy reverberating all around the celebration ground... ]

    [
... MARION!, thousands of young women screamed with excitement and for joy at seeing their role model; their sound also reverberating all around the celebration ground... ]

    [
... Honey, please take the kids to the back... see you soon, Marion kissed her husband... and her husband kissed her back. They made their way to the curtain; smiling Shaniqua and mischievous-looking Aliyah still grinning and waving back at the audience ]

    [
    ...... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN (Eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor-elect; President of the Electoral College; Yohannes First Party): In the Hand of our Lord, Jesus Christ — hello, Royal Lindblum!

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: If there is anyone out there — who still doubts that Yohannes is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dreams of the Founding Monarchs are still alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy: today is your answer.

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by thousands of young women, all around the celebration ground as far as the eyes could see... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: It’s the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches of our Father, Who art in Heaven — in numbers this nation has never seen, by people who waited three hours, and four hours — many for the first time in their lives; because they believe that this time must be different.

That their voices could be that difference.

It’s the answer spoken by young and old. Rich and poor. CDP and GOP. Black and white, native and Asian Yohannesians; Christians, Muslims, Confucians and Lilliputians. Citizens and legal residents. Rainbow lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender and Bible Belt heartland coal and steel. Disabled and non disabled. Men and women. Citizen and legal Yohannesians, who have sent a message to the Nation States and International Incidents community: that we have never been just a collection of individuals or a collection of rainbow countries and bible belt countries; blue districts and red districts — we are, and always will be, the Nineteen Countries on the continent of Yohannes.

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

    [
... YOU GO MARION!..., a man cheered... ]

    MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: It’s the answer that has led those who’ve been told for so long — by so many — to be cynical, and fearful, and doubtful, about what we could achieve; to put their hands on the arc of history, and bend it once more towards the hope of a better day. It’s been a long time — but tonight, because of what we did on this day, in this election, at this defining moment;

    Change has come to Yohannes.

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: A little bit earlier this morning, I’ve received an extremely gracious call from the Member Abdullahi Lindström.

    [
... PHEW PHEW PHEW, thousands of whistles and clapping reverberated all around the celebrating ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: The Member Lindström fought long and hard in this campaign, and he’s fought even longer and even harder for the nation state that he loves. He has endured sacrifices for Yohannes that most of us cannot begin to imagine. We are better off for the service rendered by this brave and selfless leader. I congratulate him, and I congratulate the Christian Democratic Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn — for all that they have achieved since 2014; and I look forward to working with them, to renew this nation’s promise in the months ahead.

I would like to thank my colleague in this journey — a man who campaigned from his heart, and spoke for the men and women he grew up with on the streets in Weirconsin, and rode with on the trains to Royal Alexandria: the Fifty-fourth Speaker of the Nineteen Countries Parliament Saul Ryan!

    Image

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: And I would not be standing here today; without the unyielding support of my soulmate and best friend for the last ten years, the rock of our family, the love of my life — the nation’s First Gentleman: Jeremiah Meyer!

    Image

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Shaniqua and Aliyah — I love you both more than you can imagine, and you’ve earnt your new puppy that’s coming with us to Parliament House.

    Image

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, thousands of young women screamed with excitement and for joy at their role model; their sound also reverberating all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: And though they’re no longer with us, I know my grandparents’ watching, along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight — I know that my debt to them is beyond measure: to my sister Claude, my sister Emma, my uncles and aunties. Thank you so much for all the support that you’ve given me — I am grateful to them.

    [
... PHEW PHEW PHEW, thousands of whistles and clapping reverberated all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: To my campaign manager — Erik Goebbels!

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: The unsung hero of this campaign, who builds the best — the best political campaign I think in the history of the Nineteen Countries of Yohannes.

    [
... PHEW PHEW PHEW, thousands of whistles and clapping reverberated all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: To my chief strategist, Louisa Rothenstein — who’s been a partner with me every step of the way. To the best campaign team ever assembled in the history of Yohannesian politics — you’ve made this happen, and I am forever grateful for all the things you’ve sacrificed to get it done.

    [
... PHEW PHEW PHEW, thousands of whistles and clapping reverberated all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: But above all, I will never forget who this victory truly belongs to — it belongs to you.

    [
    ... YEAAAA!!!!, a woman cheered... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: It belongs to you. I was never the likeliest candidate for this office. I was not a part of the ruling Christian Democratic Party — and I announced my candidacy three months later than anybody else did. We didn’t start with much money nor many endorsements. Our campaign was not hatched in the halls of Royal Alexandria or Halsten. It began in the backyards of heartland Dali. In the living rooms of Weirconsin and North Halsten. In the front porches of Noble Treno. It was built by working men and women who dug into what little savings they had to give 5 NationStates Dollars, 15 and 20, to the cause. It grew strength from the young people who rejected the myth of their generation’s apathy —

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, thousands of young women screamed with excitement and for joy at their role model; their sound also reverberating all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Who left their homes, and their families, for jobs that offered little pay and less sleep. It grew strength from the not so young people — who braved the bitter cold and scorching heat to knock on doors of perfect strangers. And from the millions of Yohannesians — who volunteered, and organised, and proved that more than two centuries later: a government of the people, by the people, and for the people, has not perished from the community of Nation States. This is your victory!

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: I know you didn’t do this just to win an election. You didn’t do it for me. You did it because you understand the enormity of the tasks that lie ahead. For even as we celebrate today — we know the challenges that tomorrow will bring are the greatest of our lifetime. Millions in housing and acceptable accommodation shortages. Thousands of overcrowded schools and hospitals and homeless shelters, even as we assemble another stealth bomber abroad. Hundreds of unreported illegal immigration by bogus asylum seekers every month, and billions of blood diamond and dirty money circulating in our financial and banking sector from corrupt nation states abroad, even as another one of our family is struggling to bring their daughter to university.

There’s new energy to harness. New jobs to be created. New schools to build, hospitals to expand, and housing subdivisions to be planned. The road ahead will be long; our climb will be steep. We may not get there in one year, or even in one term: but Yohannes I have never been more hopeful, today, that we will eventually get there. We will continue to remove ourselves completely from International Incidents, and accelerate our responsible open, non-competitive cooperative administration and worldbuilding for this nation state from my first day in office. I promise you, people, that we will get there!

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

    [
... YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN! YES WE CAN!, thousands chanting; their cries of joy reverberating all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: There will be setbacks, and false starts. There will be people who will disagree with the policies and decisions that I will approve or veto as the next Yohannesian Emperor, and we know that government at the imperial level can’t solve every problem. But I will always be honest with you about the challenges that we face — especially when we disagree. And above all I will ask you — Yohannesian citizens and legal residents — to join in the work to remaking this nation state great again: block by block; brick by brick; house by house. How we did modernise and industrialise to catch up and save ourselves from being colonised by foreign imperial powers historically: we will revisit the Yohannesian Model of the past.

    To make Yohannes great again!

    [
... MAKE YOHANNES GREAT AGAIN!, thousands of young women screamed with excitement and for joy at their role model; their sound also reverberating all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: To those — to those who want to tear our laws down by unlawfully immigrating here or flooding our nation with unwanted dirty capital... we will defeat you! To those who want to join us in remaking this nation state great again by lawfully immigrating here: we welcome you with open arms!

To those who want to come here but are unwilling to learn and join us in embracing our modern and traditional values: you are not welcomed here anymore! To those who want to come here and are ready to embrace our modern and traditional values with open heart — to helping us in remaking this nation state great again: please come and join us!

    [
... COME JOIN US!, thousands of women chanting; their cries of joy reverberating all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: This is our time — to put our people back to work. To make this nation state great again for our children. To reclaim that dream and reaffirm that fundamental truth first created in 2010: that out of many we are one; that whist we breath we hope; and where we are met with religious extremism and unwanted cultural terrorism and unethical competitive threats by dangerous imperial powers abroad, we will respond with that timeless cooperative creed that sums up the spirit of this great nation state since 2010: “Yes, we can!”

    [
... YES WE CAN!, thousands chanting; their cries of joy reverberating all around the celebration ground... ]

MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Thank you! God Bless you — and May the Lord Jesus Christ and God bless the Nineteen Countries on the continent of Yohannes!

    [
... WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!, screaming of joy and delight by the audience... ]

[ Background theme music starting ]

RACHEL MEADOW: To think what it must be like — after all these months; the campaign and the debates; turning against her old team and her old party: to now take her seat as the head of state of our beautiful nation state.

JIM ANDERTON: Oh, look, there — here come Saul Ryan joining the stage. He is now shaking hands with the new emperor-elect.

RACHEL MEADOW: Election 2018 analysis and coverage of the celebration — which we will continue in our next coverage. Democracy Nineteen Countries: Decision 2018. Stay tuned.

Note 1: Taken straight from Barack Obama’s 2008 election victory speech; sorry oh so irresistible, couldn’t help it!

Election Yohannes 2018: Special Coverage

Postby Yohannes » Sat Jun 16, 2018 5:56 am

JIM ANDERTON: It is two o’clock Eastern Lindblum Time —

RACHEL MEADOW: Oh look, an old footage of the emperor-elect in 2011 — then still a backbencher — talking with fellow backbencher Christian Democratic Member for the Tougnan electorate, Nathanaël Bechard.

JIM ANDERTON: Where is that guy now anyway? I never see him attending parliamentary debates.

CHRIS CARR: Too busy campaigning locally to preserve his barebone majority in his electorate, probably.

RACHEL MEADOW: Ha ha, the good old days when these people you see now leading the way were still junior legislators. About that, let us go through the analysis that was cut off by the acceptance speech. Jim, where were we again?

JIM ANDERTON: How the predictions of traditional divide between rainbow and bible belt districts were wrong, and there were many blue turned purple; some turned red — through the roof!

CHRIS CARR: I mean, if we look at the campaign appearances of both candidates, and here we are going to use the local council level[Note 1] for comparison; the data we have here, I’d say that Abdullahi Lindström underestimated the challenges he would face later on as the actual election presented clearer results for both candidates — the Christian Democrats, they campaigned differently than the GOP.

RACHEL MEADOW: I thought it would be a clear Christian Democrat win; how wrong I was. Maybe Abdullahi Lindström and Chancellor Thorndon-Stevensonn believed the same too?

JIM ANDERTON: They thought it would be the same results as their original mid 2017 polling results when the Alexandrian Queen Her Majesty Garnet Til Alexandros was still intending to run for the Office of the Emperor in 2018. I mean, did you see that one old poll result in mid 2017? It projected that the Christian Democrats would retain the Office of the Emperor and the Office of the Chancellor at the same time. The better question would be: if they kept Garnet, would this election be going the other way?

RACHEL MEADOW: Well, the Kingdom of Alexandria would surely vote for their queen in droves. That alone would be around, what, 80 electoral votes? That would be free 80 electoral votes for the Christian Democratic Party candidate. 270 minus 80; they only need 190 electoral votes to win the race pretty much, whilst the GOP will still need to compete for the normal 270 electoral votes.

CHRIS CARR: The Kingdom of Burmecia, Grand Duchy of Dali and other deep south heartland countries and bible belt districts would pretty much be free GOP electoral and raw votes, Rachel.

RACHEL MEADOW: Well, yes Chris. But they will still need to work for them. But, if we look at the results these past few days, and shave off heaps — to be frank, Garnet would still face the daunting task of having to fight her way through Marion the ex-Christian Democratic ‘old guard’. That, and the frankly failures of the Christian Democrats to control or perhaps mitigate the negative results from net migration and infrastructure and housing crises since 2014; there would be no doubt that the Social Democrats and Yohannes First would still benefit heaps from those important things.

JIM ANDERTON: There is a report that many civil servants are personally not looking forward to editing many things in the “Archive of the Government of Yohannes Act 2017” thread to reflect the results from this election; and, of course, the presence of a new emperor-elect, who will soon be inaugurated as the Eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor. And she will also veto a lot of the more hardcore Christian Democratic Bills and other proposals out there once taking office, of course, there is no question about that.

RACHEL MEADOW: Yes. Bills and the tabling of proposals would soon not be as easy for the Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn led Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council as they have been since 2014: Marion would make sure she will exert her constitutional power as the emperor as much as she can for the GOP.

CHRIS CARR: And with Saul Ryan as GOP Speaker in parliament, ha ha!

RACHEL MEADOW: The Christian Democrats have messed this one up, big time, that’s for sure.

JIM ANDERTON: Though I am a proud Christian Democratic voter, look at the data here, I have no sympathy as to the way they have seriously underestimated Marion and the GOP. Electoral College Presidential campaigns — Christian Democrat: minus C grade. They devote significant time and resources to sending their candidates to rallies, town hall meetings, fundraisers, and other events across the continent only in battleground countries. They pretty much ignore both the rainbow countries and the bible belt coun —

RACHEL MEADOW: They didn’t technically “ignore” the rainbow countries though, Jim. I saw the local candidates in Royal Alexandria — they were there.

JIM ANDERTON: Yeah, but you know what I mean? They could’ve done much better. I mean, did you check again the amount of resources and time they put for the Electoral College Presidential campaign in 2010? And compare that with today? Crazy! Do they think just because they are incumbent executive council since 2014 — and won that Office of the Chancellor parliamentary election big time — they would automatically retain the Office of the Emperor in 2018?

    They’re nuts!

It’s like, they are ruining their chance of passing their Bills and table them through parliament easily now; they can’t do that anymore now? Parliamentary hansard would be much different from the day Marion take her seat in Parliament House. With the Office of the Emperor being held by the GOP; Chancellor Thorndon-Stevensonn and the Christian Democrats are throwing away their one party control in parliament and the executive, just because of lazy complacency — they’re insane!

CHRIS CARR: As you would know Jim, no resource in a political campaign is more important than the time spent by that candidate in that constituency. In this election that principle remains. But in terms of the resource allocated in this campaign — this is where the old rule is starting to unravel. Did the Christian Democrats lose the Office of the Emperor because they pursued a periphery strategy where they target resources towards cultivating new support? Or would say for this election they did choose a base strategy to mobilise their strongest constituencies?

JIM ANDERTON: Didn’t you hear what I just said before Chris? They didn’t even bother to seriously target shaky and swing districts in the deep south heartland countries — 5 electoral votes, 11 electoral votes, 3, 8, the list continues: they wasted it all away for nothing in the end! If that’s not a very strong bias towards base campaign strategy, I don’t know what is.

RACHEL MEADOW: To be fair, Chris was asking an important question; the disastrous results of the ruling executive Christian Democratic Party notwithstanding. In this election, both the GOP and the Christian Democrats had to allocate and spend their capital carefully because the amount of time they have to convince voters between their respective nominating conventions and the D-Day is in short supply.

CHRIS CARR: If we look at the screen here, we can see that in there are thirteen local councils that received more than four visits from the Christian Democratic and GOP candidates for the Office of the Emperor combined.

CHRIS CARR: All of these local councils were in countries classified by either The Realm News or the The Imperial Herald as battleground countries. It stands to reason that the campaigns did not wish to waste too much their candidates’ precious time in traditionally secure countries — like the rainbow stronghold Kingdom of Alexandria for the Christian Democrats, or the Kingdom of Burmecia for the GOP — where an appearance in even a competitive local council would not have yielded much electoral fruit in the “winner take all” scheme of the electoral college. This seems to run counter to the prediction first made in 2017 that the three largest countries on the continent of Yohannes will be the recipients of the greatest attention for this election because they will decide the election — effectively, the Kingdom of Alexandria, Regency of Lindblum, and the Kingdom of Burmecia.

JIM ANDERTON: Lindblum, Chris. Lindblum — they went the other way big time this election.

RACHEL MEADOW: Yet without Lindblum, the bible belt heartland and deep south countries would still carry the day this election. I agree with the postulation that this is a case where the voters have punished Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn’s Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council. They have decided that her executive council has moved too much to the left sociopolitically, whilst her executive council has moved too far to the right economically.

JIM ANDERTON: She has alienated not just the majority blue collar workers but also the more egalitarian progressives who disagreed with her executive council’s very strong pro business and export economy focus over things like —

CHRIS CARR: Selling off hundreds and thousands of nation state owned houses and other infrastructure bodies to private players and foreign money — two of her more “What the hell is she doing?”

RACHEL MEADOW: And that’s one of the main reasons behind the voters’ decision to repudiate and very strongly oppose Christian Democratic Party one party rule in both parliament and the executive council this election. The Christian Democrats still have majority power in parliament; but not in the executive council and the electoral college any longer. As I’ve said, as the new emperor Marion will veto many of her old party’s more extreme pro business and pro market reform proposals.

There is no choice for Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn but to cooperate and compromise with Marion Maréchal-Le Men and the GOP now. If she and her executive council will try to propose very ideologically driven Bills and proposals, Marion and the GOP will simply veto it; this will do no good for the Christian Democratic Party because the election for the Office of the Chancellor and Parliament will start in six months’ time — the voters will punish petty partisanship like there’s no tomorrow. They have no choice but to compromise and meet the GOP halfway.

JIM ANDERTON: Also, Abdullahi Lindström — “Remember: big corporations are people too, my friend.” What the hell was he thinking by saying things like that? I get the point he was trying to make; but, that is the most out of touch thing you can say in the middle of a debate watched by millions of viewers — many finding it harder and harder to buy their first family homes affordably in comparison to their parents and grandparents back then. Inequality getting much worse and all being the central theme of this election. It doesn’t help also that he could not say something smart to turn the debate away from immigration related failures and all under the Christian Democratic Party and the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council and a majority Christian Democratic parliament since 2014.

RACHEL MEADOW: “Big corporations are people too, my friend.”, ha ha. I think some political advisers and PR gurus out there are going to lose their job tomorrow morning Jim.

    Das Reich: English Edition

Message from the Confederation — Administration and Worldbuilding 2018: Special Coverage

Once every six months, over 100 million people on the continent of Yohannes would turn on Parliament Channel to watch the elected President of the Electoral College deliver a message on the state of foreign policy of the nineteen countries from Parliament House. Recently elected to succeed the Seventeenth Yohannesian Emperor, the Message from the Confederation of 17 August 2018 is the first Message to be delivered from the Eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor.

Archive III — The First Message from the Confederation of the Eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor — Friday, 17 August 2018

[ The Anthem of the Realm starting the ceremony ]

ANNOUNCEMENT: Ladies and Gentlemen — the first family of the Nineteen Countries of Yohannes.

    [
... the Eighteenth President of the Electoral College and her multicultural family — the First Gentleman, His Honour Jeremiah Meyer the Fifty-seventh Regional Court Judge in the Kingdom of Burmecia and Pastor Emeritus of the African Yohannesian Resurrection Ascension Church, and their two adoring daughters, six-year-old smiling Shaniqua and four-year-old mischievous-looking Aliyah — entered Parliament House’s Embassy Celebration Ground... ]

    [
... Assembled civil servants of the Office of Embassy and Consulate Programme stood... ]

Hon MARGARET LARSSON (Parliamentary Under-Secretary of Embassy and Consulate Programme; Christian Democratic Party — Christian Faction; Electorate of Königswinter): Civil servants of the nation state and The Most Excellent foreign Ambassadors and Diplomats assembled, I have the high privilege, and distinct honour, of presenting to you the President of the Electoral College — the Eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor.

    [
... Civil servants and attending dignitaries of the Embassy and Consulate Programme clapped their hands and smiled... ]

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN (Yohannesian Emperor; President of the Electoral College; Yohannes First Party): In the Hand of our Lord, Jesus Christ — thank you —

    [
... Civil servants and attending dignitaries of the Embassy and Consulate Programme continued to clap their hands... ]

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Thank you —

    [
... Civil servants and attending dignitaries of the Embassy and Consulate Programme continued to clap their hands... ]

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Thank you. Thank you very much.

    [
... Civil servants and attending dignitaries of the Embassy and Consulate Programme seated themselves... ]

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: The Honourable Parliamentary Under-Secretary; distinguished civil servants of the nation state; and The Most Excellent Ambassadors and Diplomats of nation states present. Our Introductory Principles declare that from time to time the Yohannesian Emperor shall give the Message from the Confederation to ambassadors and diplomats of friendly nation states.

It’s a privilege to present to the nation state the official opening of the Embassies and Consulates of The United States of Ibica; The Empire of Kuronami; The Allied States of Baraxia; The Elder Imperial Dominion of Eothasia; The State of Nusalia; The Honorable Commonwealth of Pekweng; The Cesci Union of Piedmont, Savoy, and Lombardy; The Totzkan Union; The Commonwealth of Van Riebeeck Land; The State of Andalusin; The Federal Kingdom of Rhunnland; The Republic of Norja; and the United Empire of Thucia and Cadia.

I have for that reason the distinct honour of officiating the tenure of Their Excellencies Mr Fulton Grant, Ms Benio Hanamura, Ms Margaret Alexandria to replace the Late Josiah Johnson on behalf of the Republic of Hiram Land, Mr Kiso Sukehide, Mr Christopher Pennington to replace Mr Leonnardo Storpa on behalf of the Commonwealth of Leonnia, Ms Livia Sevedros, Mr Kartaji Sudarma, Mr Gabriel Dinglasan, Mr Giulianno Rossé, Mr Rios Krisna, Mr Jan Kim-Verdoorn, Mr Malik Abdullah, Mr Albert Stein, Mr Karjana Seima, and Ms Darth Seket as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Realm.

    [
... Civil servants and attending dignitaries of the Embassy and Consulate Programme clapped their hands... ]

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: I am grateful for this opportunity to deliver my first Message from the Confederation. I remember the promise that I made in my electoral victory speech seven months ago, where I promised to work with the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council of our elected Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn, in the hope of renewing this nation’s promise in the months ahead. Since then, we have seen the establishment of embassies and consulates of our new diplomatic partners.

And we have also seen the building of commercial relationships with our new friends. I remember the promise I made when I was elected into office seven months ago, and that was to put the interests of our people first before the interests of big banks and big industries — a promise delivered in darker times, with housing ownership of our people falling to a record low, and as more and more undocumented illegal immigrants flood our borders; where unverified asylum seekers abused the system to enter this nation without following the proper channel, and where more and more capital and money were directed outside our continent, by our own financial institutions, to build the infrastructure of other nations — not ours.

I promised then that those would stop.

And today, I can present just that — three days ago, the Bank of Yohannes delivered its news stating that the Central Provident Fund has invested 100 million NationStates Dollars to help fund green, environmentally friendly projects in the nineteen countries. By the date that is three weeks following the date of this message, The Right Honourable parliamentary Speaker Saul Ryan will deliver the GOP’s five-year plan, where a ban on face covering proposal will be tabled, asylum seeking programmes will be cut, immigration incentives such as the family reunion card will be reduced, and capital gains tax on property owned by foreign investors and non residents will be introduced before 2026.

The disappointing, unequal, and unfair collection of legislation since 2014 have not touched the lives of the hard working mum and dad Yohannesians — the working people of the heartland. And we know that that is wrong. The Budget Reform 2017 introduced by Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn has failed to reduce inequality and child poverty: with over 400,000 Yohannesian children from the heartland going to school without a nutritious breakfast of milk, bread and fruits. This is unacceptable. One way of fighting this problem is to realign our commercial relationships and renegotiate trade agreements with willing nation states — that a trade agreement with the nineteen countries must be an equal trade agreement, which will benefit the Yohannesian people just as it will benefit the people of the other party to the agreement.

I have, in addition, been informed by the Chair of the Board of Governors of Economic Palace, Ms Heidemarie Vogelweide, as regards the decision by Economic Palace to ease monetary policy this quarter, where the imperial cash rate will instead be increased by 10 basis points to 1.85 per cent. Increasing financial volatility produced by increasing International Incidents overseas and the desire that tightening monetary policy would halt the purchasing power of foreign property investors on the continent are just two reasons that has necessitated this short-term monetary policy change.

On the other hand, the Chair has informed me that the Quertz russling has also fallen by §4.46 to §111.00 over time — that is, a Yohannesian needs to spend 111.00 Quertz russling to be able to afford to buy 1.00 NationStates Dollar or Universal Standard Dollar. I have full confidence in the ability of the Chair to steer the helm of Economic Palace and help administer the monetary policy of our nation state.

I am pleased to also acknowledge today the significant contribution that our advanced manufacturing and material engineering industry is making to the growing twenty-first century industrial base of our nation state. This sector of the economy — and all the businesses and people that have run the industry and represent us outside the continent — is very important to the future of our nation state. One example alone was the production agreement signed between Zoblus-Yohannes State Industry and the Union of Lesser Soviet Republics in 2016. It has created more than ten thousand well-paid jobs for our small and medium sized mum and dad enterprises in the nineteen countries since then.

It is that kind of job creation, people first approach that we should seek — not earnings and excess returns first and people second.

There have been and will be more disagreements that I have with the elected Chancellor of the Christian Democratic Party, but it is no secret that we both agree on the importance of the Agreement for Equal Trade and the Connecting of the Nineteen Countries Economy with the Economy of Greater Nifon Act 2017.

Although I disagree as to the extent that the original Act had benefitted Greater Nifon immensely over the nineteen countries, I do still believe in the importance of maintaining good trading relationship with Greater Nifon — a nation state with a history not unlike the realm of the Yohannesians: which have risen from the ashes to catch up with the Occident and the civilised English speaking world. Our trade with the Empire of Greater Nifon and other heavy industrial producers will very well complement our strategy of responsible clean, green twenty-first century growth on the continent of Yohannes.

It is on that final note that I would like to conclude this personal message —

    [
... Assembled civil servants of the Office of Embassy and Consulate Programme stood... ]

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: By saying that the biggest change of foreign policy I seek to propose to the Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn and the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council is to ensure that the executive council and parliament will support our people by reforming the Yohannesian Model, including those who have been disadvantaged by the gross excesses of the extremely unfair and disappointingly corrupt neoliberal experiment — which we have finally seen as none other than a failed experiment imposed by the internationalist elites in many nation states of the international community.

To our international friends — the Ambassadors and diplomats assembled, I thank you for your dedication in maintaining the most excellent of relationship with the realm of the Yohannesian people.

    [
... Civil servants and attending dignitaries of the Embassy and Consulate Programme clapped their hands and smiled... ]

Parliamentary Conclusion — Last Day Customary Address: Subject to the Members of the One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament

    Image
Last Day Customary Address 2018 — Domestic Nation State Issues -- An excerpt from the two hundred and thirtieth parliamentary hansard: Tuesday, 11 September 2018 — Volume 951; Parliamentary Debate — Subject to the Ministers of the Executive Council, Emperor, and Realm.

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN (Speaker of Parliament; Social Democratic Party; Electorate of Weirconsin): Taking the Chair, introductory business of parliament — Two Post Meridiem.

    [
... Mr Speaker read the [ Holy Bible ]... ]

    Hon Members: Almighty Saint Maxtopia,

Gracefully realising our vulnerability to anarchy, chaos, and wars found all around the [ international community ] of regions and nation states, we ask humbly for the assistance and grace of Your Lordship in conducting the affairs of nation state significance; in overseeing developments of nation state importance; and for guiding us today, and in the upcoming election period, in realising the decorum of this most august assembly — in this parliament of the nineteen countries of the Yohannesian continent.

May glory be in Thy name; may prosperity and stability be realised; and may industry and welfare be brought for our people. Saint Maxtopia Save the Emperor. Amen.

Sankt Maxtopa skydda Kejsaren. Amen.

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: Honourable Members, I would like to draw your attention and to welcome the Ambassador of the Grand Duchy of Knessniet, His Excellency Mr [ Jebediah Lee ], who is sitting alongside members of the senior press gallery in parliament today.

It is with great sadness that I inform parliament of the death on Monday, 11 September of The Honourable Joachim von Ribbentrop, Emperor’s Counsel and Knight Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the Yohannesian Realm, who was a Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Nineteen Countries from 1980 until his retirement in 1988. Before his appointment to the Executive Council, the late Joachim von Ribbentrop was a Chairperson of the Civil Rights Committee from 1961.

It is to my wish that parliament see to it the Standing in Mourning to express our sympathy for the late Joachim von Ribbentrop’s family and relatives.

    [
    … Members stood in mourning… ]

Hon CLAUDIA WINTERGREEN (Majority Leader Pro Tempore; Christian Democratic Party – Democratic; Electorate of Halsten): I would like to raise a point of order, Mr Speaker. I seek parliament’s leave to officiate the conclusion of the One Hundred and Fifteenth Debates of Parliament today. I can say that it has been well worth the troublesome moments to lead the One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament as Majority Leader pro tempore. I know that I have gained a lot of insights into the minds of our Members, and wisdom along the way —

    [
... JUST MAKE YOUR POINT LAWYER WOMAN! Members from the Social Democratic section laughed... ]

Hon CLAUDIA WINTERGREEN: It’s alright. It’s alright. I am there, I am there. In my hand we have a three-page report which indicates, with figures and graphs, the achievements that the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council has achieved under the One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament.

The One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament has recorded precisely three hundred and thirty-six days of debates. Along the way, three hundred and seventy-nine Bills have been tabled and enacted as Acts of Parliament and Statutes of the Realm. To show just how vibrant democracy in the Nineteen Countries is, there have been more than sixty-five thousand parliamentary oral questions lodged by the Opposing Forces: the Social Democratic Party and their ideologically conflicted bride Yohannes First —

    [
... LOOK WHO OCCUPIES THE OFFICE OF THE EMPEROR NOW; AND GUESS WHO’S GOING TO GRAB THE OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR IN DECEMBER! Members from the Social Democratic and Yohannes First sections heckled... ]

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: Order —

    [
... MARION AND HER COMMUNIST COMPULSORY SCHEME FOR SOCIALISTS AND COMMUNISTS “MARIONCARE” CAN GET STUFFED! Three backbenchers from the Christian Democratic section heckled... ]

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: I say — order!

Hon CLAUDIA WINTERGREEN: Marioncare. Marioncare, I love it! But more than sixty-five thousand parliamentary oral questions — they show that democracy is an important part of nation state administration and worldbuilding here on the continent of Yohannes. If I may add to that, also, is the fact that many of these questions have been answered satisfactorily by Chancellor Annabelle Thordon-Stevensonn, the Alexandrian Queen Her Majesty Garnet Til Alexandros the previous, seventeenth Yohannesian Emperor, and the Ministers of the Realm of the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council.

Before closing this point of order on the last day of the One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament, I would like to thank the Select Committee on Ways and Means for listening to the constructive feedback given by Members from the ruling parties and the Opposing Forces, day-by-day. Without them, treaties and estimates such as the Allanea Othlon Corporation Act, Arthropol Trade Act, and Budget Reform Act would not exist. It has been quite the ride — four years closing, and another four years to come.

    Thank you.

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN (Yohannesian Emperor; President of the Electoral College; Parliamentary Head of Opposition;Yohannes First Party): I am humbled to be given the opportunity to address Members of the electorate in parliament assembled this afternoon, not in my capacity as the eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor, but in my capacity as the Leader of the Opposing Forces on behalf of the Grand Coalition of the Social Democrats and Yohannes First — GOP. Marioncare. You call it.

Hon Christian Democratic and Green Members: We name it!

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Ha, ha, ha. Talking about name — the Office of the Editor of Electoral Debates will soon have to edit the name of the Electoral Debates Hansard thread to “The 116th Debates of Yohannes — Reichstag’s Hansard —

Hon CLAUDIA WINTERGREEN: Mr Speaker, a point of order of nation state importance.

    [
... OH C’MON THE YOHANNESIAN EMPEROR IS ADDRESSING THE CHAMBER PAY SOME RESPECT WILL YA!, Hon Nickel Falage, Chairman of the Exiting International Incidents and Nation State Neutrality Select Committee, of the Yohannes First Party interrupted... ]

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: I believe that there will be no objection raised — this is, after all, the last day of the One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament. The Majority Leader can move forward to table that letter.

    [
… Official paper, by leave, laid on parliament’s table… it shows the contents of The Royal Alexandria Times’ 9 September 2018 article. ]

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Where were we. Yes — changing the title of the One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament to One Hundred and Sixteenth. And as the name of the Electoral Debates must be changed to reflect the changing time, and so does the party to assume the seat of the Executive Council too. This is, after all, not just the last day of the One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament — it is also the last day of the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council and the last day that Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn will be Chancellor.

Hon Christian Democratic and Green Members: Oh what is this — look at her talking!

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: Order!

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: As my adorable daughter Shaniqua would say to her mummy — damn right!

    [
... SHUT UP AND GO BACK TO THE KITCHEN!, heckling from The Hon Ljipke Nieuwenhuis of the Christian Democratic Party... ]

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: Yes. The Member will be surprised to know that it is he who will go to “the kitchen” this afternoon — that is, parliament’s kitchen. I am sure the Executive Chef would not mind having that Member as his company this afternoon. An official warning for that Member — and that will be one less question for the Christian Democratic Party in the incoming One Hundred and Sixteenth Parliament. If I am still Speaker by then, that is.

Hon Christian Democratic and Green Members: That’s right Mr Speaker. Lighten up! This is your last presiding day after all! ORDER!

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: Ha, ha, ha. Very funny. Very.

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: In the spirit of bipartisan goodwill this afternoon, I will forgive that interjecting Member Nieuwenhuis. But the Member has got a point. It’s like a kitchen down here — the foods and drinks, they come and go. By next year, some of us present in parliament this afternoon will not be here. And we will also see a couple of new faces.

I want to ask the Leader of the Christian Democratic Party, The Right Honourable Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn — has she seen the latest Ardenfontein-Löfgren political polling results from 31 August 2018?

Rt Hon ANNABELLE THORNDON-STEVENSONN (Chancellor of the Nineteen Countries; Christian Democratic Party — Democratic Faction; Electorate of Altbrandenburg): I can assure her that I have — yes, I can assure the Leader of the Opposing Forces that I have seen it.

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: It is “The Eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor”, not “Leader of the Opposing Forces”, I believe —

    [
... THIS IS PARLIAMENT — NOT THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE, MARIONCARE!, heckling from the Christian Democratic side of the chamber... ]

    [
... The Hon Emily Kirchweger, Minister of Economy, Industry and Trade of the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council, abruptly stood. The rest of parliament assembled watched her standing. The Hon Emily Kirchweger pointed her index finger at the standing Speaker... ]

    [
    ... She said, ORDER! ]

Hon Christian Democratic and Green Members: Ha ha ha!

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: ……………

Rt Hon LOSETON PETRES (Yohannes First Party; Collegian Elector — First Burmecian District): It’s a jungle down here. I tell you, back in my day, she would have been sacked already…

Hon ALICE SCHNEIDER (Minister of the Treasury and Wealth Fund; Christian Democratic Party — Democratic Faction; Electorate of Altmark): My my — The Rt Hon Loseton Petres is actually not sleeping through the whole debate for once!

Hon EMILY KIRCHWEGER (Minister of Economy, Industry, and Trade; Christian Democratic Party — Democratic Faction; Electorate of Bremstadt): Order! And that will be one less parliamentary oral question for the record-breaking, vote-grabbing, totally winning Christian Democratic Party this afternoon. I say — order!

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: Order! I must regretfully ask for the Minister of Economy, Industry and Trade to leave this chamber — outside, from where I hope that Minister can reflect on her tomfoolery this afternoon. One official warning.

    [
... Members of parliament beamed, as the smiling Minister of Economy, Industry, and Trade was escorted out of the chamber ]

NICKEL FALLAGE (Yohannes First Party; Electorate of South East Burmecia): I raise a point of order, Mr Speaker — as the rabble-rousing youths would say these days: chill, man. Chill. This be last day of One Hundred and Fifftenth Parliament, good Sir.

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: That Member from Yohannes First can accompany the Minister this afternoon — one official warning. Someone please escort him out of this chamber. Any further interjection and I will have the whole party caucus of the interjecting Member be retired this afternoon — I am sure there will be enough space outside to accomodate them all.

Dr ZOE NILSSON (Green Party; Electorate of Cowrie): I would like to raise a point of order, Mr Speaker.

    [
... OH HERE WE GO LADS — HERE WE GO!, laughing from the Yohannes First side of the chamber... ]

Dr ZOE NILSSON: I thought this is parliament — not the local zoo? I suggest for Mr Speaker to Deal With It.

Rt Hon Speaker SAUL RYAN: Out. I ask for all five officers of the Office of the Field Marshal of Imperial Subpoena to escort the entire Green Party caucus out of this chamber. Thank you.

    [
... Members of parliament laughed, as smiling Members of the Green Party were escorted out of the chamber. Before exiting the chamber, the ejected Members said, SEE YA NEXT YEAR SUCKERS WE ARE OUT ENJOYING THE HALF DAY OFF! ]

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: I have to say, looking at the jovial atmosphere we are having in parliament this afternoon, I am sure all Members in attendance believe that they will win their electorate seats. Election can be tough, after all. Just ask the Christian Democratic Party — they controlled not just the executive council, but also parliament and the electoral college too. This afternoon, they only control the executive council. And after the upcoming election this December, they will control none.

Rt Hon ANNABELLE THORNDON-STEVENSONN: Oh you are so funny, Marioncare. Oh so funny.

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Thank you Ms Chancellor. Thank you. I try to be. But I was seeing the latest Ardenfontein-Löfgren political polling results, and I can clearly see that Christian Democratic Party Members are losing the plot!

Immigration. Yohannesians said, “We have had enough! We want genuine refugees — not invading Wahhabis! So what do Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn and her Ministers do? They invited the Government of the Arab State of Khataiy to build 3 grand mosques and 78 mosques in the Kingdom of Alexandria. Even the local moderate Muslim communities went, “Oh dear… what are they doing inviting extremist-run Madrasahs here?” So what do we have because of that? 79 per cent of voters polled by Ardenfontein-Löfgren saying “Immigration” is the biggest issue facing the nation today.

Rt Hon ANNABELLE THORNDON-STEVENSONN: I am sure it’s not because of the constant dog-whistling and “Southern Strategy” done by a certain party in parliament, day-by-day…

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: And we have not even pointed out the second one: education. 73 per cent of voters polled believe that “Education” is the biggest issue facing the nation today. So what do the Christian Democratic Party do? They put out the lolly scrambles and immediately approve the proposal of GOP to provide 855 million NSD in additional investment for students with special educational needs and disabilities. Just like that — Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn said, “I agree. I agree. I think that it is actually good!” Credit where credit is due, of course, thank you for your bilateral compromise, Chancellor. But why now — almost four years after you’ve been voted into office for the first time?

Rt Hon ANNABELLE THORNDON-STEVENSONN: Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: Actually, the Chancellor will be surprised to hear this next part. As the eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor, I can tell this to those who are watching Parliament Chanel tonight: I will fulfill my duty not as the Leader of the Opposing Forces, but as the symbol of unity for our nation this upcoming election. I will personally cast my vote for the Christian Democratic Party, and locally in my electorate, my husband and I will vote for the local Christian Democratic Party candidate. One — because I believe that they can change. And two — because I personally agree with the policy of my local Christian Democratic candidate.

I am first and foremost a Member of the Yohannes First Party — not the Social Democratic Party. So yes, Annabelle, as you can see, I am trying my hardest to have you here as Chancellor next year.

Rt Hon ANNABELLE THORNDON-STEVENSONN: I am sure you are, Marion. I am sure you are.

HM MARION MARÉCHAL-LE MEN: To conclude my rise this afternoon. On behalf of the Yohannes First Party caucus, I would like to thank the Field Marshal of Imperial Subpoena , Her Royal Highness Sansa Anneliese Lovebright, Lord Paramount of the Heartland and Heir Apparent to the Kingdom of Burmecia, for putting up with our tomfoolery here in this chamber, day-by-day, and for her excellent administration of parliament’s many institutions. In December, she will personally open the Election Day. In December, she will see to it that democracy will be exercised in the Nineteen Countries.

Tonight, the One Hundred and Fifteenth Parliament will end, to be succeeded by the One Hundred and Sixteenth next year. To my fellow legislators in this chamber. Thank you for your time and service. Without your help, the exercise of democracy we have enjoyed for so long would not have been maintained. This long and rich tradition of ours can only be realised with the support of willing participants.

In December, the voters will be the king. May the best candidates win!

The Christian Democratic Party (common abbreviation: CDP), officially listed on Vote2018 as the “Christian Democratic Party — Democratic Faction”, is one of the two major political parties in the Nineteen Countries. Along with the Christian Party, Consumers and Taxpayers Union, and the Green Party, the CDP forms what is known as the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) — an alliance of socially left-wing but economically right-wing parties on the continent of Yohannes. The leader of the CDP, Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn, has been the forty-seventh and current Chancellor of the Nineteen Countries since 2014 — and she is the incumbent Electoral Parliamentary Member (voted by the people) for the Altbrandenburg Electorate.

Voters of the CDU tend to come from the “rainbow” electorates — the party has been a moderate supporter of multiculturalism, multi-faith, and LGBT rights since the turn of the century; has utterly renounced and condemned its “pro-life” past since the seventies; and has increasingly supported such things as the abolition of tariffs, the sanctity of free trade, and the superiority of economic deregulation since the eighties. The CDU supports a “more federalist, world government-like World Assembly.”

The party holds the highest number of ethnic minority, LGBT and female Electoral and Listed Parliamentary Members in the Nineteen Countries — when Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn was elected into office in 2014, she became the first lesbian Chancellor of the Nineteen Countries. In the January 2018 Electoral College Election, CDU’s candidate for the Office of the Emperor was Abdullahi Lindström, making it the first Yohannesian party to nominate an ethnic and religious minority to become the Yohannesian Emperor.

    International issues

As an open-minded member of the international community whose prosperity is totally dependent on a stable world order and a more internationalised, integral and interconnected world, the party believes that the Nineteen Countries must continue to support a federalist, truly world-government World Assembly. The CDU advocates for the future annihilation of the old National Sovereignty, “Old Guard” World Assembly — they believe that a federalist World Assembly will make the Nineteen Countries economically stronger.

The party is a very strong advocate of free trade and the removal of tariffs between nations of the international community. The CDU believes that nation states can only prosper when they embrace free trade and the specialisation of goods and services — the decline of an industry in a nation will eventually be replaced by another rising industry, and future consumers and producers will benefit because of this.

The party mildly supports Yohannesian neutrality and its non-participation in International Incidents and Nation States power-politics. It supports isolationism so long as it will not impede future deregulation, the removal of tariffs, and “a more free trade Nineteen Countries.”

    Domestic issues

A primary duty of a nation state’s government is to look long-term into the future. For that reason, the CDU supports immigration and multiculturalism — the ability of the Nineteen Countries to be a welcoming place for refugees from the International Incidents and immigrants of the international community over will decide its future as not just a high-growth economy, but also a “culturally connected” player. Multiple researchers have identified that refugees bring in more long-term cultural and economic benefits vis-à-vis their initial costs. The party believes in an “open but responsible” border policy.

The CDU does not believe in capital punishment — the party wants to move Yohannes forward into the twenty-first century and beyond, not backward. It somewhat supports the principle of “rehabilitation over punishment”, believing that the former will bring more long-term benefits for the nation in comparison to the latter, which will only lead to “ballooned” government spending and subsequently more taxes.

The CDU wants to get rid of “Marioncare”; it believes that Marioncare, or the Industrial Care and Revitalisation Fund, will do nothing but increase taxes and use limited capital which can be better used elsewhere, “Such as for big exporting businesses or companies which help propel the economy of the nation.” The party does not support raising the superannuation age. The CDU does not believe in a stronger universal healthcare at the imperial level, and believes in the gradual deregulation of public healthcare and further involvement by private healthcare providers in replacing the role of the government in public health.

The party believes in the deregulation of the Nineteen Countries’ education system. It believes in the long-term strength of charter schools and investor-funded state institutions — that is, stronger involvement by private players in the education sector.

The CDU strongly supports “the individual’s choice in terms of abortion”. In terms of state religion, the party believes that the Nineteen Countries should be a more secular, multifaith nation state.

The CDU believes in the long-term strength of the gradual reduction, and eventual removal, of mandated minimum wage at the imperial level — it believes that the citizen sector will fill in the gaps and strengthen the “wage system” where the government could not. Further, the party believes that this will lead to a more competitive economy for the Nineteen Countries.

The CDU strongly supports the gradual reduction of taxes at the imperial level for high-income earners and business owners. The party also believes that lower corporate taxes will boost the Nineteen Countries’ domestic economy and local industries as more large domestic and overseas companies will invest in Yohannes instead of investing outside the continent.

The CDU is pro-climate change and is supportive of the green industry. It does so, however, to the extent that they will not harm the overall economy or result in higher taxes and “wasteful subsidy” by the government. The party believes in the ability of the private sector to lead the environmental revolution into the twenty-first century, and it wants the government to stay out of the green economy as much as possible.

The CDU does not believe in the individual right to bear arms. The party believes that firearms and related gun ownership statutes should be decided not by each country in Yohannes, but by government at the imperial level.

Social Democratic Party

Archive IV — Vote2018: Social Democratic Party

    Image

    Image

The Party of Social Democrats (SDP), officially listed on Vote2018 as the “Social Democratic Party,” is one of the two major political parties in the Nineteen Countries. Along with the Family Values Party and the Yohannes First Party, the SDP forms what is known as the Grand Coalition of Parties (GOP)—an alliance of socially right-wing but economically centre to left-wing parties in Yohannes. The leader of the SDP, Saul Ryan, has been the 54th and current Speaker of the Nineteen Countries Parliament since 2015—and he is the incumbent Electoral Parliamentary Member (voted by the people) for the Weirconsin electorate.

Unlike the Christian Democratic Party-led CDU, the GOP is less centralised and more fragmented—its voters will not necessarily vote for the other parties in the alliance. Voters of the Social Democratic Party tend to come from the “heartland” electorates—the party has been a strong advocate of blue-collar workers, the individual right to bear arms, government-sponsored enterprises, and the religious right in conservative politics since the seventies, when, together with Yohannes First, it began to gradually adopt the “Southern Strategy” to appeal to anti-Asian and anti-immigration sentiments in the Bible Belt countries. The SDP supports a “Word Assembly which respects the nation-state sovereignty of its members.” As such, it wishes to move the Nineteen Countries away from the Federalist faction of the WA and more towards the NatSov faction in the world’s governing body.

The party has the most working-class Electoral and Listed Parliamentary Members in Yohannes—it also has the most non-Listed Electoral (voted by the people) Members in Parliament. In the January 2018 Electoral College election, the SDP supported the nomination of the candidate from their alliance partner Yohannes First, Marion Maréchal-Le Men, making the SDP the first major party in the Nineteen Countries to have nominated a woman to become the first fully elected Yohannesian Emperor.

    International issues

The party believes that “as a pragmatist member of the international community whose prosperity is totally dependent on the right of nations to advance their economies, at their own pace, without unwanted foreign interventions, the Nineteen Countries must support a completely decentralised World Assembly—a world’s governing body that is not overarching and respects the national sovereignty of its member states.”

The party is a strong advocate of “nationally-sponsored trade” and the removal of tariffs between nations of the international community in so far as they will not hurt their economy and people. The SDP believes that nation-states could only prosper if they truly protect the right of “blue-collar workers and the common people” within the framework of an “economically sensible” welfare state—the decline of an industry of a nation must only be accepted when there is already a safety net present and a replacement industry in place to reemploy “the common men.”

The party does not support Yohannesian neutrality and believes the nation should be more involved beyond the International Incidents in a partisan manner to safeguard its economic interests—and this has long been the SDP’s major source of conflict with its alliance partners; and the reason for the GOP’s less centralised and more fragmented nature. The Financial Crisis in 2012, which was kick-started after the World Assembly Condemnation of the ancient empire Automagfreek in the region of Gholgoth, was caused by a Social Democratic Party in power; and it was also the government that had been involved in the Incursus alliance with Grays Harbor and New Azura, invaded Osthia and Hippostania, and turned the Nineteen Countries into a “less neutral” player to secure the nation’s overseas economic interests from 2010 to 2014.

    Domestic issues

The primary duty of a nation’s government is to protect its most valuable asset: the taxpaying common workers. Because of that, the SDP supports the government’s strong role in economic and social (welfare) matters. The party believes that the prosperity of the Nineteen Countries will depend on its ability to maintain and stimulate a working social market economy, “where the government has the power to realise a fairer and economically safe society for its working class,” based on mixed market principles in which both the government and private sector play an equal part.

The SDP does not believe in immigration-supported growth policies—the party believes that immigration should only be limited to areas of occupational shortage and should ideally not harm the blue-collar and “non-educated” workers of the nation. The SDP thinks the Nineteen Countries has deviated away from the principle of “open but responsible immigration” since the turn of the century. It wants to dial back the nation’s immigration policy to allow the local communities and jobs to “better take and absorb incoming immigrants.” The party believes in a “moderately open and responsible” border policy.

The SDP does not believe in capital punishment—but it wants each country to decide their own policy as regards the death penalty without intervention by government at the realm (federal) level. The party does not support the principle of “rehabilitation over punishment,” believing that the former will bring more long-term harms in comparison to the latter. It believes “that a lax attitude to law and order will only encourage offenders to reoffend again in future.”

The SDP wants to expand “Marioncare.” The party believes that Marioncare, or the Industrial Care and Revitalisation Fund, will cushion the working people—in not just the Bible Belt and the heartland countries, but also the “Rainbow” countries—from the blows inflicted by heavy old industry decline, high net migration, and the encircling pincer movement of internationalisation and an increasingly interconnected international community. “To protect the common working people” from rapid internationalisation,” they believe, “and to mitigate the costs of deindustrialisation,” are the way forward. That is, to look after the hard-working line assemblers, the plumbers, and the micro and small sized business owners in Yohannes.

The SDP does not support raising the superannuation age—believing that there is enough long-term capital in the Central Provident Fund to meet retirement and pension obligations. The party advocates instead for “more effective” universal healthcare reforms at the realm level, and strongly believes in the role of the government in public health. The party does not believe in the deregulation of the Nineteen Countries’ education system. It believes in the long-term strength of state and state-integrated schools and the ability of the government to invest in the education of the people—that is, more state funding.

The SDP strongly supports “the rights of the unborn child.” In terms of state religion, the party believes that Christian Democracy should play a more important role in the nation.

The SDP wants to increase minimum wage gradually under its five-year plan to 2023. The party believes that this will lead to a more balanced and healthy economy for the Nineteen Countries.

The SDP strongly rejects the theory that reducing taxes (various) at the realm level for high-income earners and “big businesses” will somehow stimulate the economy. The party, however, wants to reduce tax for the working class and especially for business owners of small and medium-sized enterprises. They believe that this will stimulate the economy better than “giving the money to the multi-billion companies and wealthy shareholders, who will simply reinvest profits to higher-growth economies overseas instead of investing in the nation.”

The SDP is pro-climate change and is quite supportive of the green industry. The party believes in the ability of the public sector to work together with the private sector, to work for a Yohannesian environmental revolution into the 21st century.

The SDP believes in the individual right to bear arms. The party believes that firearms and related gun ownership statutes should be decided by each country in Yohannes, with government at the realm level having no say in their applicability.

Green Party

Postby Yohannes » Tue Sep 11, 2018 7:40 pm

Archive IV — Vote2018: Green Party

    Image

    Image

Party for the Forest and the Environment (common name: The Greens), officially listed on Vote2018 as the “Green Party,” is the fourth largest political party in the Nineteen Countries. Along with the Christian Party, Christian Democratic Party and the Consumers and Taxpayers Union, the Greens form what is known as the Christian Democratic Union (CDU)—an alliance of socially left-wing but economically right-wing parties in Yohannes. The leader of the Greens, Zoe Nilsson, is the incumbent Electoral Parliamentary Member (voted by the people) for the Cowrie Electorate.

In comparison to the other three CDU members, the Green Party is the most economically left-wing—it believes in taxing “dirty” enterprises to cover the indirect costs of pollution; it supports “fair and ethical trade” instead of free trade; and it stresses that purely economic indicators such as fundamental net debt and real GDP growth are not the “be all end all” ways to judge a country’s prosperity. The Greens believe that purely economic indicators must go alongside “social justice” indicators: equality of opportunity for every citizen, for instance, or the protection of the rights of minority by the majority for another.

The Greens have been pejoratively described by their opponents as not just a “purely green and environmental party” but also a “party for idealistic young university students and social justice warriors.” The Green Party was the party responsible for the Gender, LGBT, Racial and Religious Minority Act 2016; without the party’s backing, the 17th Yohannesian Emperor Garnet til Alexandros the Queen of Alexandria could not proceed with the legislation.

For this reason, the Greens have also been described as a partisan environmental party—that is, they will not necessarily support environmentally friendly legislative instruments proposed by socially right-wing parties for the sake of political point-scoring, and would instead concentrate on non-green, non-environmental left-wing initiatives. This is further complicated by the fact that most political parties in Yohannes already believe in climate change; the only difference being that each party has their own beliefs and ways as to how the “green revolution” can be realised in the Nineteen Countries.

The Green Party has the highest number of Listed Members in Parliament—that is, representatives voted not by the voters or the people of an electorate, but by the members of their own political party according to the total number of that party’s “party votes.” Electoral Members are voted according to whether they have won the election in their electorate or not; Listed members are voted according to the total number of “popular votes” of their party from the nationwide election.

    International issues

As an open-minded member of the international community whose prosperity is totally dependent on a stable world order and a more internationalised, integral and interconnected world, the Greens agree with the Christian Democratic Party that the Nineteen Countries must continue to support a federalist, truly world-government World Assembly. The Greens advocate for the future annihilation of the old National Sovereignty, “Old Guard” World Assembly—they believe that a federalist World Assembly will make the Nineteen Countries environmentally stronger.

Unlike their allied parties in the CDU, the Greens do not believe in “unrestricted” free trade: they instead believe in “fair” and “ethical” trade. The Greens believe that nation-states can only prosper when they look after the working conditions of their workers and ensuring that their exported goods and services meet best environmental and social responsibility standards—the production and consumption of exported goods and services must not harm the environment, nor must they negatively affect the lives of the consumers and their surroundings. For instance, the party believes that the tobacco industry (smoking) should be declared illegal, because they contribute to environmental and health issues.

The Greens strongly support Yohannesian neutrality and non-participation in International Incidents and NationStates power-politics. The party supports the policy of non-interventionism so long as it will not negatively affect future “green revolution” and the equality and social welfare of the Yohannesian people.

    Domestic issues

The Greens believe that the primary duty of a country’s government is to look long-term into the future. For this reason, they very strongly support immigration and multiculturalism—the party agrees with the overall position of the CDU that the ability of the Nineteen Countries to be a welcoming place for refugees from beyond the International Incidents and immigrants of the international community over will decide the country’s future as not just a high-growth economy, but also a “culturally connected” player. Multiple researchers have identified that refugees bring in more long-term cultural and economic benefits vis-à-vis their initial costs. The party believes in an “open and humanitarian” border policy to achieve an international sisterhood of peace and prosperity.

The Greens very strongly oppose capital punishment. The party very strongly believes in “rehabilitation over punishment”—the Greens were the first in the nineties to advocate for the rehabilitation of offenders, saying that it will bring more long-term benefits for the country in comparison to incarcerating them for eternal lives, which will only lead to “ballooned” government spending, and because of that, more taxes which can be used instead to support environmentally friendly green initiatives.

As a very partisan party, the Greens want to get rid of “Marioncare”; although it knows that Marioncare is in fact good for the environment and the green future of the Nineteen Countries. The Greens do believe in keeping the country’s universal healthcare schemes at the realm level as they are at present. It somewhat believes in the gradual deregulation of public healthcare and further involvement by private healthcare providers in replacing the role of the government in public health.

The Greens follow their allies in the CDU by believing that the deregulation of the Nineteen Countries’ education system will be good for the country. It believes in the long-term strength of charter schools and investor-funded state institutions—that is, stronger involvement by private players, especially green companies, in the education sector.

The Greens very strongly support “the individual’s choice in terms of abortion.” In terms of state religion, the party believes that the Nineteen Countries should be a more secular, multi-faith nation-state.

Once again, the Greens disagree with the rest of their allies in the CDU: they do not believe in the long-term strength of the gradual reduction and eventual removal of mandated minimum wage at the realm level. The party wants to keep the mandated wage system at the realm (federal) level as they are now, with further initiatives to be given to each constituent country (state) in Yohannes.

The Greens somewhat agree that tax reduction at the realm evel for high-income earners and business owners will help the Nineteen Countries prosper. The party believes, however, that lower corporate tax should only be given to “green friendly” enterprises and “socially responsible” entrepreneurs.

The Greens have been the strongest supporter of carbon reduction and climate change in Parliament since the nineties. Just like the CDP, however, the party believes that the fight against climate change should not harm the overall economy or result in unnecessary higher tax and “wasteful subsidy” by the government. The party disagrees with the CDP in that the Greens believe the public sector must work together with the private sector to bring about the Yohannesian environmental revolution into the 21st century.

The Greens very strongly oppose the individual right to bear arms. The party believes that private citizen gun ownership should be banned to protect the people. The Greens believe that police officers should only carry concealable and non-lethal self-defense weapons.

Yohannes First Party

Postby Yohannes » Tue Sep 11, 2018 9:41 pm

Archive IV — Vote2018: Yohannes First Party

    Image

    Image

Yohannes First (common name: The Tea Party), officially listed on Vote2018 as the “Yohannes First Party”, is the third largest political party in the Nineteen Countries. Along with the Family Values Party and the Social Democratic Party, Yohannes First forms what is known as the Grand Coalition of Parties (GOP) — an alliance of socially right-wing but economically centre to left-wing parties on the continent of Yohannes. The leader of Yohannes First, Marion Maréchal-Le Men, has been the eighteenth and current Yohannesian Emperor since January 2018.

Most political commentators believe that the party’s platform is “all over the place” — though officially Yohannes First has described itself as a “pragmatic centre” party on economic issues and a right-wing party on social issues. Critics of the party have described Yohannes First as a collection of populist, nationalist political platforms for an alliance of disenfranchised blue-collar workers who are politically moderate on one side and civic and ethno-nationalist voters on the other side. The party consistently has attracted the highest number of elderly and military veteran votes in every election since the turn of the century — it supports such measures as the extension of superannuation plans for military veterans and pension subsidy for the elderly through the Central Provident Fund.

Despite being pejoratively described as a “party for racists, sexists and opportunists” by their opponents on many occasions, Yohannes First attracted the highest number of African Yohannesian and native Yohannesian (Yohānnesi and Yohannesia) voters in the January 2018 Electoral College Election — it also became the first political party in the Nineteen Countries to nominate a woman to become the first fully elected Yohannesian Emperor.

The party has been commonly described by their opponents as an Anti-Islam political party. Loseton Petres, Deputy Leader of Yohannes First, was nicknamed the “Grand Wizard of the Islamophobic Clan” by mainstream media for his many incendiary comments concerning the “Islamisation of the Nineteen Countries” and “the Sharia Law engulfing the nation”. On 1 July, 2017, Maréchal-Le Men was appointed to replace Loseton Petres as party leader, and soon thereafter, she was elected to replace Jeremy Robyn as de facto leader of the GOP. She has since pursued a policy of “big tent” conservatism and “political moderation” to reform the image of the party — and thus the Grand Coalition as a whole.

    International issues

Just like the Social Democratic Party, Yohannes First believes that, “As a pragmatic member of the international community whose prosperity is totally dependent on the right of nations to advance their economies, at their own pace, without unwanted foreign interventions, the Nineteen Countries must support a completely decentralised World Assembly — a world’s governing body that is not overarching and respects the national sovereignty of its member states.

The party also follows GOP’s stance in terms of trade: it strongly advocates for “nationally-sponsored trade” and the removal of tariffs between nations of the international community in so far as they will not hurt their economies and people. Yohannes First believes that nation states can only prosper when they truly protect the right of “blue-collar workers and the common people” within the framework of an “economically sensible” welfare state — the decline of an industry in a nation must only be accepted when there is already a safety net present and a replacement industry in place to reemploy the common men.

Yohannes First departs from the Social Democratic Party in terms of nation state neutrality. The party agrees with the Christian Democratic Party and especially the Green Party — Yohannes First strongly supports Yohannesian neutrality and non-participation in International Incidents and Nation States power-politics. The party supports nation-state isolationism to protect “mum and dad” business owners and exporters. Yohannes First believes that the nation state must maintain a policy of strict neutrality and keep itself out from International Incidents that may affect its multinational market and industrial confidence. Indirect diplomatic aggression, commercial rivalries, and especially wars, no matter how small or how short, are bad for the industries and investment presence of the Nineteen Countries, both domestically and overseas.

    Domestic issues

Yohannes First’s platform on domestic issues aligns largely with the GOP. It believes that the common workers should be protected from “the gross excesses of the extremely unfair and disappointingly corrupt banker-led neoliberal experiment produced by the borderless internationalist elites.” The party, however, disagrees with the Social Democratic Party concerning most social (welfare) matters. It believes that the welfare of the people can best be maintained through the support of domestic, Yohannesian-owned enterprises.

The party follows the GOP’s position that a successful Nineteen Countries can only be realised through maintaining and stimulating a working social market economy. It deviates slightly from GOP’s line in that Yohannes First wants to also strengthen the core of the Yohannesian Model economy.

The party has thoroughly and completely opposed immigration and increasing net migration levels seen since the turn of the century — Yohannes First believes even more strongly than the SDP does that immigration should only be limited to areas of occupational shortages and should not harm the blue-collar and “non-educated” workers of the nation. The party believes in a “very controlled and responsible” border policy, which concentrates mainly on “quality of immigrants over quantity.”

Yohannes First does not have an official stance on capital punishment. In terms of incarceration versus rehabilitation, the party disagrees with the SDP — Yohannes First agrees with the Greens that rehabilitating offenders will bring more long-term benefits for the nation in comparison to life incarceration, which would only lead to “ballooned” government spending and subsequently more taxes which should be used instead to support Yohannesians and Yohannesian-owned businesses. Yohannes First, however, believes that “three strikes” incarceration and deportation regime should be imposed on non-citizens in the Nineteen Countries — believing that because they are not born in Yohannes, non-citizens have no right to commit a crime in their adopted nation.

As the political party of the inventor of “Marioncare”, Yohannes First wants to expand the Industrial Care and Revitalisation Fund. Loseton Petres says that Marioncare should be expanded to “further protect our hard-working uncles, fathers and brothers in this Fatherland.”

Yohannes First does not support raising the superannuation age — believing that there is more than enough long-term capital in the Central Provident Fund to meet retirement and pension obligations. Just like the SDP, the party advocates for “more effective” universal healthcare reforms at the imperial level, and strongly believes in the role of the government in public health. Yohannes First does not believe in the deregulation of the Nineteen Countries’ education system.

Yohannes First also supports “the rights of the unborn child”, though not as strongly as the SDP. In terms of state religion, the party believes even more than the SDP does that Christian Democracy should play a central role in the nation state.

Yohannes First believes that the nation can afford the gradual increase of mandated minimum wage at the imperial level, provided that the Executive Council is willing to increase taxes for “multi-billion foreign companies” currently operating in the Nineteen Countries. The party believes in the importance of introducing capital gains tax at the imperial level to reduce the powers of “cashed up” foreign investors in Yohannesian property and housing market.

Yohannes First largely follows the Social Democratic Party’s positions on other domestic issues of nation state importance.

"Wow, there are so many parties to choose from! Who to bribe..."
Stop giving misogynistic abusers a platform. Anyone who sides with Tiktok Star Andrew Tate even 1% of what he says will be treated as enemy who should be shamed out of society. Impressions+Views+Videowatches=$. Nothing he says is new or revolutionary. I don't care if he said "some good stuff", it's still bad because: the more you watch him, the more ad revenue MONEY and algorithm BOOSTS you're giving him to traffick victims. And don't say the victim lied, a young man stupidly told me that the victim confessed to lying, I told em to link me proof, articles or the Audio of her confession, he googled and found 0 proof 0 articles, and he realized he was spreading fake rumors he heard and BELIEVED without fact-check. Don't brand victims as liars without GOOGLING. Debated here

Christian Party

Postby Yohannes » Wed Sep 12, 2018 1:30 am

Archive IV — Vote2018: Christian Party

    Image

    Image

The Christian Party, officially listed on Vote2018 as the “Christian Democratic Party — Christian Faction”, is the only minor Yohannesian party to have consistently reached the six per cent threshold required to be represented in the Nineteen Countries Parliament since the turn of the century. Along with the Christian Democratic Party, Consumers and Taxpayers Union, and the Green Party, the Christian Party forms what is known as the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) — an alliance of socially left-wing but economically right-wing parties on the continent of Yohannes. The leader of the party, Werner Rösch, is the Archbishop Emeritus of the Archdiocese of Großraum Münchenmôtier. The party’s previous leader, Garnet Til Alexandros, was the seventeenth Yohannesian Emperor from 2016 to 2017.

The Christian Party is the most socially right-wing in comparison to the other three CDU members — it opposes same-sex marriage, and its senior members have historically espoused anti-abortion views. As regards other social issues, however, the party has since the turn of the century adopted a more liberal stance — it supports “socially responsible” immigration and transparent refugee resettlement programme in the name of humanitarian obligations and responsibilities; it embraces members from other religions and nominates them to represent the party at the regional level; and it strongly believes in the Church’s role and responsibility to assist in the fight against climate change.

The Christian Party opposes capital punishment — it believes that the death penalty is the antithesis of the love and teaching of the Lord Jesus Christ the Saviour. The party believes that the Church should play a more important role in the nation state.

The Christian Party supports a gradual, responsible deregulation of the Nineteen Countries’ education system. It believes in the long-term strength of Church-sponsored schools and investor-funded state institutions — that is, it wants the Church and religious organisations to be more involved in the education sector.

The Independents

Postby Yohannes » Wed Sep 12, 2018 5:00 am

Archive IV — Vote2018: The Independents

    Image

    Image Image

The Independents, officially listed on Vote2018 as the “The Independents of Yohannes”, is a political alliance of independent Electoral Parliamentary Members in the Nineteen Countries Parliament. First founded in 1981, the original alliance was basically a gathering of political forces opposed to the increasing “consolidation of powers and multi-billion dollar machination” seen in Yohannesian politics since the seventies — with the Christian Democratic Party-led coalition on one side and the Social Democratic Party-led coalition on the other side.

The Independents’ membership in parliament have always included Electoral Parliamentary Members from the smaller countries — both the incumbent Members representing the two Free and Frauenmundigen Cities of Crescent and Coral have by convention led the alliance since its founding as co-leaders. The co-leaders of the party are Jack Gallagher, who is the incumbent Electoral Parliamentary Member for Crescent, and Owen O’neill, who is the incumbent Electoral Parliamentary Member for Coral.

They understand the importance of strength in numbers in the face of the overwhelming resources available for those who are nominated by a political party at the imperial level — for instance, even the Christian Party in 2012, which was easily the smallest party in parliament, had easy access to millions of NationStates Dollars (or Universal Standard Dollars) from more than thirty registered organisations and countless private donors.

The Independents’ support base include farmers, merchants, small and medium sized business owners, those in commerce, and professional people — those who generally fall within the “lower-middle to higher-middle” income brackets. Many established families and close-knit community organisations in the less dense electorates of the smaller countries tend to vote for and endorse independent candidates due to their generally closer links to their respective communities — it is common knowledge amongst the “big four” parties that once an Independent Member has been the incumbent of an electorate “seat” for more than three parliamentary sessions, it would most likely be a waste of time and resources to try to take their seat.

Since the turn of the century, the Independents have increasingly been a noticeable force in Yohannesian parliamentary democracy — they have always made sure that the Office of the Speaker will go to a Member of the Opposing Forces to preserve parliament’s balance of power in their favour.

Parliamentary Members of the Independents can range from the most economically conservative to the most socially liberal — they are united by something much stronger than political affiliations: the desire to survive in the cut-throat world of Yohannesian politics at the imperial level.

Free Cannabis Party

Postby Yohannes » Wed Sep 12, 2018 4:09 pm

Archive IV — Vote2018: Free Cannabis Party

    Image

    Image

The Party for Cannabis and Recreational Drug Users (common name: Free Cannabis), officially listed on Vote2018 as the “Free Cannabis Party”, is the only minor political party in the Nineteen Countries to have focused on a single issue (single-issue party) without fail since its founding: the overturning of existing laws which restrict cannabis use and the free consumption and distribution of recreational cannabis for every willing citizen. The leader of Free Cannabis, Killa Magwa, was very unexpectedly elected to represent the Essbrück Electorate — which is the electorate with the second highest concentration of university students in the Nineteen Countries — with a 1,509 barebone majority in the 2014 Parliamentary Election, thereby winning an Electoral Member seat to represent Essbrück in parliament.

Just like in 2014, in addition to its pledge to fully legalise cannabis, Free Cannabis has made the following promises for this election:

    • Free sausages for all university students,
    • Less sex in science lab rooms for undergraduate students,
    • Free cupcakes for law and medical students,
    • Unsolicited christmas gifts for engineering and computer science students,
    • Topdown Supermarket Onecard in-store vouchers for postgraduate students,
    • Free movie tickets for junior and senior college (high school) students,
    • A vandalised poster of Christian Party leader Archbishop Emeritus Werner Rösch for Religious Studies students,
    • The right to celibacy for self-declared cute shy guys,
    • IKEA knock-off chair for every student flat in Essbrück,
    • Free breads for the cute ducks of Lake Viereggenhöfer,
    • New public toilets to replace the so gross toilets at Reichsgau Bergen auf Rügen sports and events centre, and
    • Sausages and cokes (no yuck Pepsi) for Free Cannabis voters after this election.

Alliance for Yohannes

Postby Yohannes » Thu Sep 13, 2018 12:56 am

Archive IV — Vote2018: Alliance for Yohannes

    Image

    Image

Alliance for Yohannes (common name: The Alliance) is a centrist political party in the Nineteen Countries. For much of the nineteenth century, the Alliance was a consistent force present in the Nineteen Countries Parliament. Starting from the first half of the twentieth century, factional conflicts, internal dissents, and successive political scandals (involving mostly bribery and corruption) finally brought down the Alliance. It has never regained its former position as one of Yohannes’ “big four” parties in the nineteenth century (the Greens has since then outgrown the Alliance to occupy the fourth spot), and since then, the party has become a shadow of its former self.

The leader of the Alliance is Peter Done, who used to be an Electoral Member of the Altenmarkt Electorate, before losing his seat as incumbent Electoral Member to Christian Democrat Paulus Spitzer in 2014. Since then, Peter Done has reformed the party; the Alliance used to be just that — an alliance of three centrist political parties. Its slow gradual decline throughout the twentieth century and its eventual exit from parliament in 2014 convinced the three parties to merge into a single united party.

In terms of overall platform, the Alliance has always been a family-focused party — it was the party that tabled the Family and Medical Leave Act in 1969, and was also the force behind the historical Extended Electoral Act in 1916, which expanded upon the Kingdom of Alexandria’s Universal Franchise Act 1914 to give the vote to all non-landowners, women, and “racial” minorities in the Nineteen Countries.

In terms of economic policies, the Alliance sits closer to the Social Democratic Party’s platform. In terms of social policies, the Alliance sits closer to the Christian Democratic Party’s platform. The party has commonly attracted the votes of “economically centre-left” ethnic minorities, who like the economic platform of the GOP but dislike Yohannes First’s tendency to resort to anti-Asian and anti-Muslim dog-whistle politics.

In terms of defence and foreign policy, the Alliance believes in the importance of maintaining relations with other “active” nations in 2018 — such as Greater Nifon, Khataiy, the United States of Devonta, and The United Remnants of America to name just four.

Consumers and Taxpayers Union

Postby Yohannes » Thu Sep 13, 2018 1:18 pm

Archive IV — Vote2018: Consumers and Taxpayers Union

    Image

    Image

The Consumers and Taxpayers Union (common abbreviation: CTA) is the “youngest” minor political party in the Nineteen Countries Parliament. Along with the Christian Democratic Party, Christian Party, and the Green Party, CTA forms what is known as the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) — an alliance of socially left-wing but economically right-wing parties on the continent of Yohannes. The leader of the party, Kajetan Böhme, was one of the co-founders of the Chambers of Industry and Commerce Yohannes Incorporated in 1983.

Some political observers have commonly described CTA as a libertarian party; others have described it as an economically far-right party — but most agree that it is a right wing, classical-liberal political party. CTA based its policies on the defence of individualism. The party believes that many World Assembly member states — including the Nineteen Countries — have abandoned individualism since the progressive era of the twentieth century. CTA also based its ideology on the importance of “personal responsibility.” The party does not believe in the concept of social welfare, nor does it believe in the public sector’s ability to effectively manage the nation’s finite resources to the maximum efficiency — CTA believes that a truly competitive market and free, robust private sector will best handle everything.

The party supports the taxpayers’ rights: it believes that the public sector should not waste ratepayers and taxpayers’ money on things that do not include the essential building blocks of nation state administration and worldbuilding — the protection of individual rights, for instance, or statutes to enforce the rule of law and safety of the individuals, or funding a national defence force to protect the nation state from foreign imperialist powers.

In comparison to the other three CDU members, CTA is the most socially left-wing and the most economically right-wing — the party believes that the government should keep its hand off such fundamental individual right issues as abortion and same-sex marriage, whilst believing that the “government ultimately cannot prevent the rise and fall of communities and industries without lowering production efficiency at the same time; for instance, the government should not intervene no matter how many people have been made unemployed by a recent failure of an industry because the free market and a truly robust private sector will absorb them sooner or later anyway.

CTA is currently the smallest party in the CDU — it has not held a seat in parliament since 2010, when the then-leader of the party, Justin Kaltenbrunner, was caught in extramarital affairs with three of his campaign interns.

Family Values Party

Postby Yohannes » Fri Sep 14, 2018 12:44 am

Archive IV — Vote2018: Family Values Party

    Image

    Image

Family Values Party (common name: Family Values) is the third oldest political party in the Nineteen Countries. Along with the Social Democratic Party and Yohannes First, Family Values forms what is known as the Grand Coalition of Parties (GOP)—an alliance of socially right-wing but economically centre to left-wing parties in Yohannes. The leader of the party is Bernhardt Kempf, who was the Chair of the Board of Governors of the Economic Palace from 2000 to 2012. Family First sits on the right of the GOP economically and it runs under the same platform as the Social Democratic party socially, with added emphasis on “traditional and cultural Yohannesian values.” It is considered to be part of the Christian far-right.

Under its former name “Christian Family Values,” the party reached its peak in the twentieth century—it had led its own governing coalition to successfully form three executive councils. The party imploded under the leadership of the “populist demagogue” Sebastian Mulldune; he extended the old Non-Occidental (Asiatic) Exclusion Act 1945, which banned immigration by “Far East peoples from the Orient” and also added “persons of Hindustan and other genetically non-Teutonic background.” Though the Act and other similar populist measures did increase Family Values’ majority in Parliament, they ultimately proved to be the party’s downfall. In 1949 Mulldune was convicted of “bribery and corruption” after his mistress—an “Oriental immigrant”—revealed that the “Old Seb” had used taxpayers’ money to “supplement our holiday travels”; and the last straw was the gossips circulating among Parliament House press gallery reporters that Mulldune had engaged in “acts of immorality” with one of his male staffers.

The party then continued, without asking for bipartisan support, with its “Think Big” programme, which radically reformed the Nineteen Countries’ governments at the regional level. The voters (and the national governments) of the Nineteen Countries finally believed that “Genug ist genug!” The Third Christian Family Values Executive Council was decisively voted out office in 1950. The newly elected Twenty-eighth Christian Democratic Executive Council repealed the Non-Occidental (Asiatic) Exclusion Act 1945, officially condemned Mulldune, and watered down many other “Think Big” legislation of the previous executive council in 1953. Throughout the twentieth century, the party slowly declined—many political commentators predicted that Family Values would never regain its former glory after the irreversible damage from the Think Big programme, and they were right.

In contemporary Yohannes, the latest Ardenfontein-Löfgren political poll (31 August 2018) showed that only 3.91 per cent of voters intended to “party vote” for Family Values, meaning that the party would not meet the six per cent threshold to be represented in Parliament.

      Source: World Microcredit Foundation.
Royal Alexandria, 17 September 2018 — During the aftermath of the 2012 Financial Crisis in the Nineteen Countries caused by the World Assembly condemnation of the Empire of Automagfreek, many Yohannesian economists expressed their misgivings on the possibility that monetary policy by the Economic Palace at the time — under the Seventh Social Democratic Executive Council — had contributed to higher-than-usual oscillations in the currency exchange rate value of the Quertz russling.

Some of the nation’s biggest import-export enterprises and taxpayer pressure groups led the way in expressing middle and working class Yohannesians’ anger through such things as the “March to Parliament” on 8 July 2013, which came after the Quertz russling’s nominal exchange rate fell by five per cent in 2012 and by eight per cent in 2013. The situation was such that the Economic Palace had to release its report, “Monetary Policy: The Importance of Citizen Sector Participation.”, for leading business leaders on the continent of Yohannes at the time — many domestic businesses and taxpayers expressed their misgivings “on the ways that Economic Palace monetary policy has contributed to a worryingly undervalued Quertz russling since the turn of the century.”

The then Chair of the Board of Governors of Economic Palace, Dr Alice Ackner, disagreed with the accusations — in fact, in consultation with the Seventh Social Democratic Executive Council, Dr Ackner was paving the way for the wave of reforms that would be known as “Jeremynomic”, a portmanteau of “Jeremy” (the given name of the former Leader of the Social Democratic Party, The Rt Hon Jeremy Robyn) and “economics.”

By December 2013, the Economic Palace had raised its explicit inflation rate target; interest rates did rise, consumption expenditure and demand fell, prices followed soon thereafter, and inflation was gradually lowered. The aftereffects of the 2012 Crisis lingered, and soon enough the citizen sector and taxpayers learnt the hard way that the Economic Palace had perhaps over-delivered to meet their earlier demands — borrowing became more expensive when they were needed; young families suddenly found out that they could not afford their mortgages any longer; investments fell across the Nineteen Countries; and many small and medium-sized regional banks went bankrupt.

The Quertz russling did depreciate, however, which helped exporters — especially those armaments and technology manufacturing concerns that were involved in the Akimonadi and Prussian-led Anti Communist Alliance and Hippostania crises in 2013. This post therefore supports the assertion that monetary policy did in fact affect the Quertz russling’s exchange rate, though by not as much as some policy analysts had believed.

Prior to Jeremynomic, when the Economic Palace wanted to reduce inflation by tightening its monetary policies, it would either lower its estimates of cash settlement or declare to the citizen sector that it is in the process of implementing such changes to raise interest rates. As explained in Annual Report 2017 — Monetary Target Consensus, the Economic palace has for years used the Imperial Cash Rate (ICR) to modify short-term interest rates in the Nineteen Countries; its adjustment by Economic Palace will affect the prices that money are being sold and distributed for further reselling by Yohannesian banks. Ceteris paribus, when the Economic Palace makes this decision, the nation will see an uplift in interest rate without taking inflation into account (i.e. nominal interest rate).

The second implication of the Economic Palace’s tightened monetary policies is the reduction of anticipated inflation. This, in turn, increases interest rate after adjusting for inflation (i.e. real interest rate). The third implication is the reduction of price for investors’ assets in the Nineteen Countries vis-à-vis those outside the continent. This, in turn, would lead to investors taking advantage of this situation by modifying their portfolios and grabbing some cheaper assets in the Nineteen Countries. Ceteris paribus, the Yohannesian Quertz russling will then appreciate against the NationStates Dollar or Universal Standard Dollar (NSD/USD) as net inflow of capital from abroad expand to boost demand for the Quertz russling in the currency market.

      Image

Figure 1: Quertz russling real effective exchange rate. Above 100 indicates overvaluation, whilst below 100 indicates undervaluation vis-à-vis the NationStates Dollar or Universal Standard Dollar.

Some of the nation’s biggest import-export enterprises and taxpayer pressure groups knew this too well. What they did not realise, however, was of the existence of a strong brake to the Economic Palace’s powers. Ceteris paribus, the market will return to equilibrium by way of countervailing depreciation to reverse the earlier appreciation. The failure of the Economic Palace, and many of Yohannes’ large institutions at the time, was not that they did not anticipate these countervailing factors — it was that they did not know just how big of an impact these countervailing factors would have on the Yohannesian economy, and for that reason, the taxpayers’ purse.

By learning about this recent history in Yohannesian politics (and economics), policymakers under the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council have concocted one possible solution to this problem: there is in fact a constant domestic rate factor that reflects the purchasing power parity value of the Quertz russling’s exchange rate at the end of the market adjustment period by taking into account the real interest rate of the majority of World Assembly member states. However, adjusting this constant to influence rate will not, ceteris paribus, produce a stable movement (i.e. within the explicit target of inflation band) in the Nineteen Countries Consumer Price Index (NCCPI). It means that key players of the banking sector will not have the stability they want — the result is the inability of the overnight rate to be changed accurately to reflect the newly adjusted ICR.

Measuring the overvaluation or undervaluation of the Quertz russling is already problematic as it is. Recent publications by Economic and Demographics Statistics Yohannes highlighted that the current equilibrium exchange rate of the Quertz russling vis-à-vis the World Assembly’s NationStates Dollar or Universal Standard Dollar should have been 1 Quertz russling trading for 0.011 NSD, or 1 NSD trading for 90 Quertz russling. In recent years, the Economic Palace has pushed the boundaries by overseeing the consistent reduction of the Quertz russling to the range of 100 to 110 Quertz russling for 1 NSD. The author of this short commentary believes that both the Economic Palace and the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council have been playing with fire — and sooner or later the nation will be burnt because of it, just as the nation was burnt when the previous executive council, the Seventh Social Democratic Executive Council of The Rt Hon Jeremy Robyn, played with fire: the 2012 Financial Crisis.

Today’s exchange rate: According to the International Securities and Exchange Commission, 1 NationStates Dollar or 1 Universal Standard Dollar (NSD/USD) (World Assembly and International Standard) is enough to buy 112.06 Quertz russling (Yohannesian); that is, a Yohannesian needs to spend at least §112.06 to be able to afford $1 NS.

Vote2018 Issue #2: Quadrennial Report on Nation State Reinvention

    Image
Parliament Analysis Archive — Quadrennial Report -- An excerpt from the parliamentary hansard: Tuesday, 18 September 2018 — Volume 952; Continuity Commission — Nation State Reinvention 2018.

The exchange of capital, goods, and services across international borders have contributed significantly to the growth and economic position of today’s Yohannesian Model economy. Without the Nineteen Countries’ historical relationships with its trade partners, it would not be able to afford the social market features of the nation, nor would it be able to industrialise and modernise since the early nineteenth century. For that reason, it can be said that international trade and finance are the fulcrum which support the Realm of Yohannes.

The same can be said of many other national economies too — some have chosen to pursue trade liberalisation, or protectionism, or something else of their own creation, to advance their trading interests. What is less well known, however, is the extent that a nation’s economic growth itself could affect that nation’s trading position with other foreign nations. “The Yohannesian Model: the importance of policy cycles” had largely focused on the growth of the nation state itself; it mentioned trade, but focused largely on the gravity model of trade as regards the historical industrialisation and “westernisation” of the Nineteen Countries to become a “civilised” nation state.

In the nineties, some Yohannesian Model economists had started to believe that the Nineteen Countries’ trade policies did not contribute significantly to such things as the nation’s current account and overall growth, nor did they reduce the nation’s economic volatility and resources allocation efficiency. Since the turn of the century, opposing views have emerged which assert that real GDP growth and trade growth are inextricably linked with each other. Policymakers of successive executive councils since then have adopted their views: when real GDP is growing below the original forecast for the Yohannesian nation state, trade growth will grow below previous expectations too. And when real GDP is growing higher than previous forecast for the period, trade growth will register considerably higher uptick too. Of trade growth, growth in export is the most affected by lower than forecast real GDP growth, with import growth the least to be affected.

Different nations have different history, geopolitical situations, and economic background, and will thus face different challenges and tackle them in their own way (e.g. no such link exists, or if they do exist they are quite weak) — in the case of the Nineteen Countries, however, there is a considerable relationship between real GDP growth and trade growth. This reflects the fact that the Realm of Yohannes has always been a trading nation: it has always looked towards the international community of nation states and regions outside its own region. When looking at the strong relationship between real GDP growth and trade growth — especially export growth — in the Nineteen Countries, a number of conclusions can be made:

    • The Realm of Yohannes has pursued a policy of diversification since 2016, where it has increasingly created new trading relationships with non-traditional powers and other new nations from beyond the Terra Incognita. The Nineteen Countries has successfully reinvented itself as a nation state, and today’s Yohannes is a much different nation state to the Yohannes of 2014, or 2013, or 2012. This policy has since benefitted the nation state immensely — to stubbornly cling to old ways will not produce good results, the incumbent executive council concluded. The incoming executive council should maintain this policy of open-minded diversification, and should not try to close Yohannes off from possible new friends and new trading partners, or stop itself from looking at the new nations and new communities for its new sources of inspiration.

    • This policy of reinventing the nation state should ideally not affect the Nineteen Countries’ older trading partners. The executive council has, by and large, successfully accomplished this since 2017, and the incoming executive council should maintain this policy (i.e. “what happens here will not affect our older trading partners, and we will respect their nation state technology and continuity”), whilst continuing to look at the new nations and new communities for new sources of inspiration.

    • The international community of 2018 (and possibly beyond) is a less interconnected world than the international community of 2009, 2011, 2012, or 2013. This process has accelerated rapidly since 2014. The nation state briefly struggled because it was unable to adapt to this new geopolitical situation. In 2017, the executive council tried new ideas and was finally able to formulate the solution to this problem for the Yohannesian nation state. The incoming executive council must continue to reinvent the Realm of Yohannes and innovate the nation state to adapt to new geopolitical situations in 2019 and beyond.

    • The growth and continuity of Yohannesian trade will depend on the incoming executive council’s ability to adapt to new geopolitical situations in 2019 and beyond, just as it has adapted successfully to drive Yohannesian trade growth and continuity since 2017. This does not necessarily require constant activity; it will, however, depend on the ability of the next executive council to be an open-minded member of the international community.

    • Whilst the period from 2014 to 2016 was full of misguided trials and errors, they should not be seen as failures. The proven track record post-2017 would never be achieved without repeated failures. This should be the attitude of the incoming executive council too: it should not shy away from failures, and should embrace new things to find the right formula to achieving nation state administration and worldbuilding success.
The Continuity Commission believes that the Yohannes of today is a much different nation state than the Yohannes of the more integrated and interconnected old days. The nation state’s definition of success today is not the same as the nation state’s definition of success from the 2012 days, nor does it believe in the old methods to achieve its goals any longer. The Realm’s future as a nation state will depend on the incoming executive council’s ability to accept and adopt new ideas and to become an inquisitive member of the constantly changing international community of NationStates.

Vote2018: Issue #3

Vote2018 Issue #3: The Empire of the Rising Sun
Greater Nifon and the superpower Santiago Anti-Communist Treaty Organisation

The Honourable Ronald Chump could hardly contain his excitement when Parliament House came into sight.

It was the afternoon of the day after The Royal Alexandria Times had published their article — “Archbishop Tomas Becket spat at by Muslim migrant.” Chump and Tense had driven for most of two days but Chump was not exhausted. His heart was beating hard and fast, blocking his throat. He was about to gain extra votes again.

Might Tense next to him was in deep slumber, oblivious to his thoughts. He had once told his loyal Chief of Staff that he will be Emperor one day. But Marion came along and stole his thunder: a blonde high achiever, young for a senior politician, and with a loving African Yohannesian husband and biracial daughters to boot: she was the twenty-first century model politician — and so the people loved her back. When she then announced that she would tackle illegal immigration and ban religious head covering in public, Chump knew that the Office of the Emperor was not going to be his.

But there was still the Office of the Chancellor. The lesbian, neoliberal immigration sellout: she would surely be no match for him? And so the way was clear — Ronald Chump 2018: Make Yohannes Great Again. He flinched as he remembered her laughter. The lesbian Chancellor mocked his ambition in parliament. She had made him feel like a nobody, a slave; she had acted as if his movement was a political force of no account.

But that was in 2017 — the tables had been turned. Woman Spat at after abuse by migrants, the Sharia Law spreading across the nation; Archbishop of Dali spat at by Khataiyi Wahhabi migrant; East Asian Future: Tales of Migrant Trafficking — suddenly voters waited for him when they see him to say: “Mr Chump. I agree with you, Sir, but I’m too afraid to speak my mind because I am not a racist. We need to do something about East Asian and Muslim immigration.” And so he said, “They are opening their Ni Hao Ma noodle canteen shops and Yao Ming supermarkets everywhere; Khataiy is building three Grand Mosques and seventy-eight Mosques in Alexandria — it’s a disgrace!”

It was the lesbian Chancellor’s rainbow movement that was of no account, now.

The mainstream media believed it would be a sixty-forty result — but Chump believed those too afraid to speak their mind would make it forty-sixty instead. He was set to be the next Chancellor, and she was set to be a nobody. She would have no name, no position, no office, no followers. He would amend many of her old Acts, and he would scratch out her name in ecstasy — and then she would have no legacy either. It was almost too good to be true: he felt like grab’em by the pussy.

He walked slower as they approached the chamber. He did not want Annabelle the lesbian Chancellor to have any warning of his arrival: he wanted her to have an unexpected, horrendous, overwhelming shock. His loyal Chief of Staff Might Tense and campaign strategist Sleeve Banone said their goodbyes and left for his office upstairs, to arrange for the black comedians, the best wines, and the household ladies to be moved to his room. Chump’s job now was to entertain the chamber beltway crowd, show himself before Parliament Channel’s audience, and deliver his message to them: Make Yohannes Great Again.

Dark grey clouds brewed across the sky, so clear they seemed almost to touch his heart. He opened the door. The chamber was before his eyes. No lesbian Chancellor tonight. That made it even better. He would be throwing her out into a butchering soon enough anyway.

Breaking News: Ronald Chump praises Soryu — The Series amidst outrage over “Nifonophile-like admirations” of Greater Nifon

8 September 2018: Parliamentary Member of the New Cleyra electorate The Honourable Ronald Chump said that he wants to speak to the Nifonese Shogun over the phone next week, after learning of the release of the final two-part episode of Season 1 of Soryu — The Series.

“I want to call the Great Shogun and congratulate him and his family and his ancestors for industrialising and occidentalising Greater Nifon. I have great admiration for Greater Nifon and her people. Just like us they were once facing possible colonial subjugation by foreign Occidental powers. And just like us they industrialised and modernised to become a ‘civilised’ nation. I think that that is great that we have left the rest of the ‘uncivilised nations’ behind. I mean — would you have their people immigrating to your nation? I mean, c’mon people. Please.”

“Please!”

He believed that it is his duty to make clear his support of Greater Nifon and all that she stood for — as Greater Nifon and other “powerful” member states of SACTO and IFC will enforce their rules and whims “more and more” on “both non-aligned and uncivilised” nations the International Incidents over, “It is our job to align ourselves closer with their foreign policy. We can be neutral, but it does not mean that we will not support them. I think the Nifonese Shogun is a great, great man. He is a strong leader. Like me. I mean, who doesn’t like a strong man? He is promising to throw out migrants by the boatload; he believes immigrants are not real Nifonese; he believes in open trade with Yohannes; he kills communists; and he has made Greater Nifon great. I want that for my nation. I want to make Yohannes Great Again.”

Chump reiterated further that, “As Chancellor, I will make Yohannes Great Again. I will bring back the Panthera. I will bring back the Crown Commonwealth. I will bring back the carriers and I will militarise our financial arms like they were back in 2012. I will bring back the coal and steel jobs. I will tell nations to band together with us to help Make International Incidents Great Again. I will shoot down anyone who disagree — that includes the communists.”

“Tell me if that is not a great — a G.R.E.A.T. future. Please people. Please.”

For her part, Chancellor Annabelle Thorndon-Stevensonn has called Chump “unhinged”, and believes that, “We have a duty to uphold the principles of prosperity and stability before the law. We are a multicultural, diverse nation. We are a rainbow nation. We should not return to the past — the future is where we belong. And that is where I will bring us come 2020 as one, united nation.”

Vote2018 Issue #4: Equality Commission Quadrennial Report

    Image
Parliament Analysis Archive — Quadrennial Report -- An excerpt from the parliamentary hansard: Thursday, 20 September 2018 — Volume 952; Equality Commission — Realm Worldbuilding 2018.

The similar treatment of every student without artificial barriers or prejudices or preferences has long been a contentious subject in the Nineteen Countries, especially when passing an Imperial Certificate of Educational Achievement (ICEA) Level 3 in college[Note 1] would most likely lead to a degree, and in turn, higher chance of employment or further higher earning opportunity. For that reason, Yohannesians have always viewed education as one of the most important investments for their children. Since the turn of the century, more and more Yohannesians have asked the following question: does there exist the possibility to ensure that every children in the nation will have the equal opportunity to work towards achieving educational success?

The Ministers of Education of successive executive councils since the late twentieth century have attempted to tackle this problem in various different ways. There have been since then the consensus formed by the “big four” parties that fair educational treatment ultimately means the ability of a person to maximise their educational achievements by relying solely on their educational performance regardless of their ethnicity, gender, or household background; this being, of course, the ideal situation.

The aim to provide better equal opportunities and fair treatment for all students in the Nineteen Countries has been explored by successive executive councils since the eighties. There have been many education programmes funded by government at the imperial level created with the sole purpose of achieving gender and socio-economic equality in educational opportunity since then — for instance, the Office of Public Analysis and Intergovernmental Affairs’ Council on Women and Girls, which consists of ten distinguished women from various business, diplomatic, education, and political leadership roles in the Nineteen Countries tasked with advising the Office of the Emperor on issues relating to the welfare of women and girls; or the Department of Science and Innovation’s Students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship, which provides coverage for newly graduated students from low-income households to undertake partially subsidised postgraduate research at the University of Yohannes.

Meanwhile, for primary and secondary education there exists a similar initiative: the Cool Kids in Science Institute, which attempts to kindle young college[Note 1] students’ interest in traditional STEM subjects. Higher up for university and polytechnic undergraduate study, there exists the Ehrenbaum Science Trust, which was originally envisioned as a statutory entity aimed at fostering the development of knowledge intensive industries and science growth by distributing competitive grants for noteworthy university research projects in the fields of science, sustainability, and technology.

In the Nineteen Countries, the aims of these institutions have generally been to ensure that gender equality support would benefit both men and women equally — that it would benefit male students with “high-achieving” education records who want to pursue a career in female-dominated fields (e.g. dentistry, medicine, nursing) just as it would benefit female students with “high-achieving” education records who want to pursue a career in male-dominated fields (e.g. architecture, engineering, law). Whilst these initiatives have benefitted Yohannesian male students immensely, existing Ministry records show that Yohannesian female students are still underrepresented in certain higher education fields of study (e.g. engineering and information technology). The Equality Commission therefore recommends the incoming executive council to undertake further research in this area to explore how gender inequality in terms of female students’ underrepresentation in certain fields of study can be reduced as far as practically possible in future.

Equal educational treatment and rights in terms of household background are also important — they are especially relevant in the case of communities of recent migrants (i.e. Asian and Muslim Yohannesian communities). Students from these recent migrant communities tend to come from low-income families, with one or two parents who do not have Yohannesian-approved higher learning qualifications (i.e. the Nineteen Countries rarely recognises institute of higher learning qualifications from nations which do not adhere to the principle of the rule of law). The latest Ardenfontein-Löfgren political data (12 September 2018) showcased this development: 75 per cent of children from “established communities” (i.e. African Yohannesian, Yohannesian, and native Yohānnesi and Bahasa Yohannesia) are planning to undertake undergraduate study after college. In contrast, only 69 per cent of recent migrant communities (i.e. East Asian and Muslim Yohannesians) are planning to undertake undergraduate study after college.

The aim of the Department of Science and Innovation’s Students in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Scholarship and other such initiatives is to bridge this gap and see to it that equal educational opportunities will be enjoyed by all Yohannesians, whether they are born men or women or belong to the LGBT communities; or whether they come from established communities or recent migrant communities in the Nineteen Countries.

The Equality Commission believes that the incoming executive council should work towards this goal to further increase equality in educational opportunities for all persons in the Realm of Yohannes regardless of gender, ethnicity, or household background.

Note 1: In the Nineteen Countries, “college” means high school (sometimes “grammar school”).

Vote2018 Issue #5: Environmental Commission Quadrennial Report

    Image
Parliament Analysis Archive — Quadrennial Report -- An excerpt from the parliamentary hansard: Friday, 21 September 2018 — Volume 952; Environmental Commission — Realm Worldbuilding 2018.

Promotion of Clean Energy, Ocean Noise Reduction, and the soon-to-be submitted “Greenhouse Gas Cap and Trade Program” — as the international community of nation states and regions and those who are involved in day-to-day International Incidents continue to push further into the twenty-first century, so do the increasing number of new research and development in renewable energy and green industry continue to break old barriers. But complying with World Assembly resolutions by themselves will not bring about the green revolution on the continent of Yohannes.

This is where domestic initiatives come into play; statutes which bring about such programmes as the Industrial Care and Revitalisation Fund of 2018 and Othlon Corporation Agreement of 2017 have increasingly been tabled and subsequently enacted by the Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council since 2014 — and before it, the Seventh Social Democratic Executive Council since 2010 — to break through all obstacles that are holding the nation state back from deploying renewable solutions for electrical and industrial usage. Different nations have different history, geopolitical storylines and economic background, and will thus attempt to solve this problem in their own way. In the case of the Nineteen Countries, however, successive executive councils have come to learn since the turn of the century that the incentive to bring about the green revolution must not be left entirely in the hand of the market and citizen sector forces.

“Marioncare” (Industrial Care and Revitalisation Fund) and INS (Infrastructure of Nation State Significance Fund) have proven that a modicum of combinatorial approach (partial government subsidy) is required to allow for the very slow but sure scaling up of markets for the green industry.

Although the “big four” political parties believe in climate change, they hold different beliefs and ways as to how the “green revolution” can be realised on the continent of Yohannes. The Christian Democratic Party favours almost purely market-based environmental policy instruments, whilst the Social Democratic Party favours environmental policy instruments which are heavily influenced by “public sector leadership.” The Green Party and Yohannes First both sit somewhere in-between of the two main parties’ platforms. But all four parties agree on one thing: the importance of creating clear incentives for the market so that barriers to investment can be reduced, or ideally removed altogether. Therefore, even members the most hardcore faction within the Christian Democratic Party, with its almost purely market-based approach, believe that the executive council has a role to play in the green future of the Nineteen Countries.

    Image

Figure 1: Energy sources (%) in production on the continent of Yohannes. Source: The World Assembly.

Of the minor parties, only the Consumers and Taxpayers Union disagrees with this conclusion — as a libertarian party, it believes that the public sector should not waste ratepayers and taxpayers’ money on things that do not include the essential building blocks of nation state administration and worldbuilding — the protection of individual rights, for instance, or statutes to enforce the rule of law and safety of the individuals, or funding a national defence force to protect the nation state from foreign imperialist powers.

Whether emerging or mature, industrialised or agrarian, resource-rich or not, the inherent attributes of the barriers which hinder the productivity of green industry and large scale investment in renewable energy technologies tend to be similar — infrastructure and market (or investors’) confidence. The Environmental Commission believes that the incoming executive council should design appropriate policies to tackle deployment barriers in the areas of (i) infrastructure provision and management; (ii) institutional challenges and risk; and (iii) the uncertainties of micro, small and medium-sized enterprises. The Environmental Commission also believes that the incoming executive council should formulate policies that will increase investment incentives for green industry by both foreign and domestic players on the continent of Yohannes.

There are two different ways of achieving this goal: the incoming executive council can introduce partial (or full) renewable subsidy programmes to guide capital injection towards specific sectors of green industrial development, or the incoming executive council can eliminate barriers and let the invisible hands of the market determine outcomes concerning the quantity and specialisation in renewable technologies to be pursued. The Thirty-sixth Christian Democratic Executive Council since 2014 has largely opted for the second of the two; the election of Marion Maréchal-Le Men as the eighteenth Yohannesian Emperor in January 2018 has, however, shifted the focus of executive council policy-making towards the first of the two. The Environmental Commission believes that the incoming executive council should try to combine the two approaches to provide long-term stability for investor confidence.

For obvious reasons, the Environmental Commission believes that the incoming executive council should not entirely rely on any one of the two approaches. The “invisible hands of the market” approach would render green industrial development vulnerable to such unavoidable international market forces as changes in the prices of petroleum and new, easier access to other readily-available “dirty” energy sources outside the continent. International Incidents in 2018 have been especially active as regards conflicts and violence in resource-rich nation states (e.g. Khataiy), and they have shown that the executive council should not rely entirely on market forces to fuel the growth of green industry in the Nineteen Countries — to do so would leave domestic renewable energy growth vulnerable to possible further reductions in international (or regional) petroleum and other fossil fuel prices (i.e. harming investment incentives).

The Environmental Commission believes that the incoming executive council should boost “green” investors’ confidence by ensuring that it will not just “talk the talk” — the successful tabling of the NIS programme and Marioncare did increase investors’ confidence in the ability of the executive council to extend its “green vision and mission” beyond rhetoric into the field of fairly realistic legislation and nation state worldbuilding, and the executive council should continue to do so. The incoming executive council can also extend direct support (e.g. technical assistance and research and development grants) for green industry participants and research universities to boost the number of project pipelines ready for citizen sector investments.

And finally, the incoming executive council can further increase investor confidence by undertaking further research in public-private partnership initiatives such as the Bond for the Environment Scheme.
