"Daring.", Mario commented, nodding respectfully as he prepared his throw, "For all you knew, she could have been a he, with less then friendly intentions... and for all she could have known, you could have been the same."
Luigi nodded. "Granted, if both would have been, it would have been funny!"
Mario allowed himself an amused snort. "That would've been a laugh!", he said with a grin, then threw his ball, which landed a small bit away from the jack. "Seriously, though, how did you know, that she was... well, she."

"Aah you sound like my older sister, she gave me all the same fears. And well I didn't know to be honest. I didn't expect to come for romance or anything but I ended up finding it. I guess it's because I wasn't raised in a technology world and in a small enough village where many of us knew each other I'm a bit too naive for my own good."

"Maybe.", Mario admitted, "Maybe you are a bit too naive, maybe you are not. It doesn't have something to do with being from a village, believe me that." He gave a short, bitter snort as he looked downrange. "Even a person from the most bustling metropolis might be even more naive then you can ever imagine."
"Congrats on finding your heart's partner.", Waluigi chimed in, with the usual sneer in his voice, "Although it doesn't sound like it. She's a good hostess to archeologists, you can believe me that!"

The three men laughed at the dreaminess of Xan's expression, but they had to agree, which Mario formulated: "Indeed you are - everyone would be. She's a woman like there are not many in the world.", he said, before he smiled, "Of course, my fiancee is one of those, too, beautiful and skilled and a big part in why we are here... but I must admit to being biased in that regard. Anna is my fiancee, after all..."
Mario took in air to continue, but Luigi cut him off by stage-whispering to Xan: "Forget about him, he'll go on for a while. He loves his Anna more then anything in the world, and while that is absolutely fine, he tends to sing her praises for hours on end!"
"Hey!", Mario complained, a bit of a whine in it.

Xan gave a laugh "Nothing better than true love, even the finest wines can't compare! Sounds like Anna is just as lovely too."

Two arms, slender and strong, wrapped around Xan, before a voice whispered in her ear: "Oh, am I?"
Mario grinned, as the other woman released her 'captive' and went over to him, hugging her fiance and kissing him deeply. She wasn't much to look at, one might even call her mousy and meek, but her eyes shone with a fire, especially as she kissed her soon-to-be-husband, who received it with a smile.
Waluigi and Luigi turned to Xan, grinning. "She's the good soul of the camp. Not much at an archaelogical dig, but if it concerns camp-keeping or finding out where to dig, she's your woman!", Luigi explained, "And a very good cook, too."
"Sounds like I'm not the only one singing her praises.", Mario interjected with a smile, his fiancee laughing.
"Not for hours on end!", Luigi reminded with a smile, "That's your job!"

Anna smiled at the compliment. "And another one singing praises!", she cheered, before she hugged her fiance back, "But I'll only listen to one's!" Mario grinned, kissing her onto the cheek, before she continued: "So... Bocce. Who's winning?"
"We're in the first round.", Waluigi supplied.
"Hm... restart, boys versus girls?", Anna asked into the round.

Anna nodded, as Waluigi went to collect the already thrown balls. "It will be... Xan, was it?", she asked with a smile, "Now, the boys aren't half as bad, in teaching this game, but I imagine, that they left out a few tricks?"
Suddenly, her fiancee became a bit shifty, looking towards the forest. "Oh, do you see those nice trees?!", he asked Luigi with a sheepish grin.
"Yes, I see those nice trees! So tree-y!", Luigi replied with a similar expression.
Anna looked to Xan, motioning her to come closer. "Thought so."

AHSCA wrote:"Mhm" She nodded "Well I'll do my best, having just learned the game already, I think I got the hang of it!"

"Alright then.", Anna stated with a challenging smile to her fiancee and his friends.
The game itself was reset, the boccino thrown anew, the game drawing a bit of attention by the other party-goers, to the point where there was an audience, which included Faye, who held her fingers crossed for her Xan.
The game was long and hard, Mario holding back a bit - not out of favour to his fiancee, but to her team, so that they had a chance, especially with a beginner - by using his other hand to throw. It was a close game as well, Xan surprising with a few very good throws, Anna scoring well as well.
Mario and Luigi, although not brothers, worked together well, making it a tight game until the very last throws... and the end result was cheer-worthy for all involved: Draw, no winner, but no loosers either, the last decision to that result coming from Doctor Soarelli as impartial referee.
There were shoulder-claps for the two men, while Anna hugged Xan, kissing her on both cheeks in a friendly gesture, before she handed her over to Faye, who kissed Xan on the lips in a decidedly not merely friendly gesture, but a loving one, congratulating her.
It was only a short kiss, but a heartfelt one, before Mario and Anna began the next round with a few other students, while Faye smiled at Xan: "I just remembered... I promised you fish, didn't I?"

It was a fun game and Xan got into it more, Anna was patient and helping her understand the game. Xan could get a little competitive but still was tempered to not let it get to her. A tie seemed like the best outcome for a friendly game. After taking in the wonderful kiss by Faye she wrapped her own arms around her staring right into her beautiful eyes. "Promised me you did!"

"And deliver I shall - on my honour as a Selkie and a merchant!", Faye replied, returning the stare as she lifted Xan from her feet in their embrace and carried her away from the players and observers, who were more occupied with the game then with them.
Faye smiled as she did so, not breaking eye contact, but being very careful as to not step onto something or the other. Their destination was found by smell, delicious smell, that made her mouth water, but her eyes were kept on Xan's.

Faye thought only for a moment, before she nodded: "Sure, why not?"
She sat Xan down into the sand in a way, that maybe was not exactly the best for her back, and kissed her a quick peck on the cheek, before she turned to get two pieces of her special perch, which she had set aside just for the two of them, as well as an iced tea to drink for them, bottled. Although two pieces, they would be able to share them as well, she thought, as she sat down at her side.
It was spiced well, very well, if not to say very well - others might call it hotter then the inside of a volcano, but that was another story.
"Good appetite, Xan.", she said and grinned as they sat side by side in the sand on her island, not heeding the cheers of the Lutettians behind them.

"A hearty appetite that not even the coldest winds can damper." with the fish firmly on her fork she took the first bite "Now say awww" She giggled hoping Faye would let her feed her just a bit with the fish she just bitten out, they'd share a bite an indirect kiss, as if they needed that early foreplay.

Faye smiled, then took the bite offered with a smile, looking Xan in the eyes.
The meaning was not lost on her and if she was honest, she couldn't wait for the first chance to sneak away with Xan to do things not suited for the eyes of children with her, but that had to wait until that chance came and the Lutetiians were safely back on their mountain, in their tents - one reason why alcohol wouldn't be consumed in amounts putting a small farm to shame - and fast asleep. Still, some of her marinade found its way onto her cheek...

Faye taking the bite was just as good as any of the kisses she'd given her this whole trip, now it was a true sign of love between them. With her free index finger she also swiped away some of the sauce left behind on her cheek and promptly tasted it in return. "Mmm good huh?"

"Very.", Faye replied with a smile, "And hot."
The way she said that made it clear, that she was not only talking about the fish and its marinade, but also about the one opposite to her. If she was honest, the fish was currently the last thing on her mind as she gazed deeply into Xan's eyes, but that was another story.
Then she kiseed Xan, the flavours mixing in her mouth to create a symphony.

Those of the Lutetiians, who turned during the kiss quickly turned back to the game, which was getting started again - that was not theirs to watch it and they all agreed, without a word being spoken, that they should leave the two lovers to their love.
And Faye very much appreciated that, as she let Xan know, putting her head onto the girl's shoulder as the kiss was finished, staring into the fire as she rested her body and her mind.
It would be easy to think, that something was wrong with her.

"Mmm seems we had a small audience, eh?" She rested her head and grabbed Faye's free hand. "But this is nice. sitting here with you, a roaring fire. The glow really accents your beauty."
