AGUIZÚ - Grupo Bancanet fired its CEO and co-founder Juan David Freixa, after several instances of sexual misconduct by Freixa were uncovered. A statement made by the company's board members was released on social media explaining the decision and the situation surrounding the puissant banker.

The official statement announcing the firing said the decision had been made “in light of new information about misconduct by Juan David Freixa that has emerged in the past few days.” In an interview, one of the company’s four board members, said it had been brought to their attention that Mr. Freixa had violated the company’s code of conduct at some point in the past week, but he would not specify what the violation was.

Mr. Freixa had been notified of his termination by email Tuesday evening. The action was taken by Cristóbal Andrade, Arturo Graciani and Raúl Zorita. A fourth board member, Aaron Montenegro, is set to resign on Saturday.

Internal Conflicts

The sexual harassment allegations uncovered stretched back decades and came from former employees of Grupo Bancanet and Banco del Sur, the previous company that Mr. Freixa founded. Bancanet sent the company scrambling to do damage control outlining the fallout in an email to Mr. Freixa’s legal adviser, Pablo Feliciano.

“Many companies are giving Juan David’s money back,” he wrote on Monday morning, “Women’s rights organizations are offended by his actions and are now calling for him to be fired.”

Pablo Feliciano, legal adviser for Mr. Freixa told the company’s board on Thursday that Mr. Freixa was planning to follow through with a lawsuit, and that board members could expect “more and different reporting” that would include “photos of several of the accusers in very friendly poses with Freixa after his alleged misconduct.”

Arturo Graciani, Bancanet board member, voiced anger in an email response to Mr. Feliciano, saying his approach and public comments were “definitely fanning the flames and compounding the problem”. Graciani added: “This is not the time for Bancanet to appear defiant or indignant; It is time to repair, heal, accept responsibility and recover.”

For the past week, many women frustrated with an industry that seems stuck perpetually sexualizing and mistreating women, had been watching closely to see where the revelations would lead. The firing of Freixa was considered a victory by many women's rights groups. Marta Ferraz, activist and founder of the Almas Unidas foundation said that the event “is going to scare any man in a position of power using his status to take advantage of young women.”

Work resumes on Etruria-Gaullica high speed railway
Tribune government restarts work over four year stall.

The Federal Ministry for Transportation and infrastructure Development has announced that work has resumed on the Aventine High Speed Rail Link (AHSRL), commonly known in Etruria as the San Alessandro-Gaullica Railway. It comes after four years of stalled construction due to local opposition and the corruption of the liberal establishment.
Image
Work stalled in 2015 due to the liberal establishment’s corruption.

The FMTID announced the decision at a press conference where the ministry’s spokesman confirmed construction had resumed.

“Last night, engineers and workmen returned to work on the San Alessandro-Gaullica Railway. We have confirmed this with our Gaullican counterparts. The line will dramatically improve cross border trade, travel and development in the Aventine border regions” he said.

The spokesman confirmed the decision was reached after the federal government consulted with local groups and businesses and that the railway was a key target in the government’s infrastructure plan.

“Since 2016, the federal government has taken to studying and consulting with local groups, while bringing the project under stronger federal overview. The government has also assured locals of a new and improved compensation package for land purchases and assurances of maintaining natural beauty in the affected areas” he explained, he also stressed the importance of the railway, “with the government’s infrastructure plan, this railway will be key in developing the border regions with Gaullica, while easing the means of trade, travel and transportation. The railway will be mutually beneficial.”

The SAGR was first proposed back in 2008 and work initially began in 2011 in Etruria, while the Gaullican side began in 2012. However, the Etrurian side soon came into trouble by 2015, with numerous local and national scandals involving embezzlement and theft. Work stalled completely in Etruria under the Reali administration under claims of investigation. The EC referendum and collapse of the Reali government in 2016 further delayed work, while the Tribune Movement vowed to clean up corruption in the FMTID before making a decision on the project. In 2017, Gaullica ceased work on its end of the line, which stands at 80% complete.

“The benefits of the project were never the issue, we know that up to 40,000 jobs can be created, exporters and importers can gain and tourism can gain. It was the criminality of the liberal establishment that caused chaos, but the government has scored major victories in pushing back the leftist crime network” the spokesman said.

The line which is planned to run from San Alessandro to Fauglia then north into Gaullica will link up the National High Speed Network, opening up a combined population of almost 120 million people.

The decision follows the announcement by the Tribune Movement government to spend over $800 billion on infrastructure by 2025, including the construction of new rail links between Carinthia and Novalia, a under-sea tunnel connecting the island of Meloria to the mainland, eight regional airports, expansion of the Port of Solaria and the Port of the Lagoon in Poveglia. A modernisation and expansion of the Autostrada across all of Etruria and new fibre optic lines to provide broadband to rural areas. $100 billion has been earmarked for repairs and improvements to existing infrastructure.

The project stands as the biggest infrastructure plan in Etrurian history and is aided by a $457 billion sovereign fund and a $105 billion government budget surplus. The remaining funds will be raised through domestic and foreign investment and tax revenues.

Following the announcement President Francesco Carcaterra tweeted, “we promised to build Etruria into the 21st Century and it begins with the railway that will bring Etruria and Gaullica closer as neighbours.”

An estimated 10,000 people took to the streets in Saravan last night and this morning to protest against chronic water shortages that have gripped much of southern Zorasan. 12 people were arrested for clashing with police.

Thousands marched against corruption and the military's control of water utilities in Saravan

The protests began spontaneously when several hundred people began protesting in Heydayat Park, demanding increased water rations. By 9.30, the protests had drawn several thousand people, who used social media to organise a larger march. By 10pm, over 8,000 people had amassed in the park, forcing the police to escort the growing number of people out of the park toward Ali Sattari Square.

As the march progressed, hundreds of people joined the column, bringing over 10,000 people to the square by midnight.

The protests demanded a lasting solution to the water crisis, with one of Saravan’s local MPs, Abdul Reza Shahrestani telling protesters, “we can no longer ignore the people, no longer will we put industry over the wellbeing of people.” He also told protesters, “I and colleagues in parliament will fight to see water delivered to all citizens, because this injustice cannot continue.”

Mr. Shahrestani wrote a letter to colleagues in the Popular Council, which he posted on social media, where he wrote, “while we can all accept and understand the rationale of our current treatment of water, the truth is that for too long, we have provided industry with too much and the people too little. Unless we take dramatic action, we risk seeing a collapse in our social contract over water. We must take action to deliver a necessity of life.”

The protests in Ali Sattari Square continued well into the early hours, with protesters banging pots, pans and drums and holding up empty water bottles.

The police maintained a small presence at a distance from protesters, however, several scuffles broke out between police and protests at the side-lines. 12 people were arrested after they attempted to vandalise several government buildings.

Since early this month, over 4.5 million people have seen drinking water access rapidly decline as stored water fellow below the required minimum level. Thousands of farms have lost access to water and emergency rationing has been introduced to towns and cities in Samrin and Armavand.

The Union Government has established a Special Commission to find permanent solutions to the crisis, while the Union Government also began transporting water from the north to be distributed to locals. $4.5 billion has been released to fund emergency pipelines and repair work to increase capacity in the southern regions.

However, the sole water utility company in Zorasan, UniWater has come under fire, after several MPs revealed that the company had consistently failed to maintain key pipelines and storage facilities in the south, in effort to boost services for manufacturing and the oil industry. Others have attacked the Great Soldier Foundation, which owns 49% of UniWater alongside the federal government. Several protest groups have placed blame on the military for the water shortages.

Ghasan Ibn Salawi, a prominent Irvadi rights activist addressed protesters in Saravan this morning, claiming that the military had used its sizeable shares in UniWater to strongarm the state into pushing up utility prices, “they do this with many other industries, they cripple you and me to earn themselves more money. The entire Great Soldier Foundation is one big corruption scheme.”

Principilist MPs in parliament have attacked critics who blamed the military, with prominent right-wing lawmaker, Hamid Namdar attacking Ibn Salawi this afternoon, “this man is foolish and clearly too wealthy to be spouting his words. When he knows what’s it like to struggle day in and day out financially, his words will matter.” Others have said that fault lies with nature, a group of right-wing MPs wrote a letter to colleagues saying, “we must confront the reality that the climate, driven by Euclean and Asterian polluters is changing negatively. This is having dangerous effects on our own climate and we must find ways to confront it and confront claims the water crisis is the fault of man or the military.”

State President Evren Volkan is expected to visit effected regions tomorrow, arriving in Saravan first for talks with First Minister Khosrow Husseini, his office confirmed that the State President will talk to locals.

ONLY POLITICAL CHANGE WILL END ZORASAN'S WATER SHORTAGE

Image
So long as the Generals and Clerics rule behind the scenes, Zorasan will thirst for water and freedom.
Ashcombe, Estmere - Last night over 10,000 people took to the streets in the southern city of Saravan in demand of a lasting solution to the chronic water shortages that are gripping southern Zorasan. While it is always heartening to see Zorasanis express their democratic rights, the sad truth is that the protests will not be enough. Only dramatic change will save Zorasan from both tyranny and never-ending drought.

In some ways the water shortages are both a result and apt symbol for Zorasan today. People stand dehydrated of water, while standing deprived of both liberty and freedom, in many ways the water shortage is the manifestation of Zorasan’s suffocating reality. For Zorasan is a nation of contradictions, falsehoods and lies, its entire governing system depends upon them, it is perhaps exciting, if risky, that the latest bout of water shortages could see the entire façade collapse.

To many foreigners, Zorasan has a system to be envied. It’s non-partisan, in that it is illegal to form a political movement, club, group or party, anywhere in the country. When compared to the hyper-partisan and tribalistic natures of some democracies in Euclea and elsewhere, this seems to be a viable alternative. It is true, Zorasan is devoid of tribalism, mundane party activities and divisive elections. The lack of parties means that each single-member constituency election is built around the candidates only, and what they can do for their local seat. In the legislature, this means that every member is free to cooperate with whomever and vote in any way they see or feel fit. Yes, it is true that every MP is dedicated to their constituency to a greater degree, some could argue, than a Estmerish MP or a Gaullican Senator, since they also owe loyalty to their party, but look deeper and that democratic gravitas is consumed by reality.

At every election, local, state and national, every candidate is vetted. Every candidate is vetted by the Joint Committee for Political Unity, a body of 12 prominent clerics, generals and admirals, who are in turn unelected, unaccountable and entirely detached from oversight. These 12 men go through the files of thousands of candidates and select them. And as you can imagine, they only select a certain type of candidate – one’s who either support the military’s oversized role or at least, never made a public criticism of the military or Irfanic clergy. As any aspiring politician in Zorasan would know, if you wish to even contest a race, you need to make sure you never did a thing, said a thing or tried anything, that could be construed as anti-military or anti-irfan, you’ll go through life up until your selection, offering praise and support for the cleric-military deep state.

As a result, every politician in Zorasan is beholden to the military and the clergy for their position and status. In return, all both institutions ask for, is complete and total obedience and independence. If the military wants a budget increase, it gets one. If the Irfanic clergy want a billion-dollar renovation of a Beytol or Shrine, they get it, without question, oversight or scrutiny.

Then, there is the National Arbitration Council, a body of generals and clerics tasked with overseeing all legislation’s viability with both the constitution and Irfanic law, known as Esafkar. If the generals see a law that supposedly violates the constitution, they veto it, if the clerics see a law that violates religious law, they veto it. The clerics and the generals deny and block the legislature’s power to free itself of their control, but also ensure their domination is uncontested.

This is not the idealistic non-partisan democracy many see, this is the cold and dark truth.

With parliament held down, the clerical-military deep state is free to repress liberty elsewhere, unimpeded by politicians. On the face of it again, Zorasan to many has a vibrant free press, of hundreds of publications, blogs and newspapers. Yet again, you dig deeper, and you find the harsh reality of Zorasan. Many newspapers, magazines and outlets are owned by the same people, primarily, many fall under the Great Soldier Foundation, a colossal holding company owned by the military. In fact, some estimates put the total percentage of media owned by the military at 44%, that includes two of the biggest newspapers, the state broadcaster Morvarid and hundreds of regional newspapers. Pro-military newspapers also outnumber neutral ones, they are in turned owned by long-standing businesspeople with strong ties to the military enterprises. Even with a significant advantage in reach, readership and sheer size, the deep state is further aided by censorship. The National Administration for Broadcasting and Media Affairs is the military run body dedicated to media certification and censorship. It covers printed media, online media, television and radio. It is tasked with protecting Zorasani society from “anti-Irfanic tendencies, unsavoury depictions of authority, religion and society and to ensure a patriotic media.” In reality, it supresses autonomy, creativity, criticism and independence of thought. Journalists and artists alike can either be imprisoned for violating laws, some of which don’t exist on the statute book, or worse. As writing this, 156 journalists are in prison for writing articles deemed “anti-social.”

What these political and media-based realities entail is the much of the façade, Zorasan presents to the world. On the surface, it looks like a unique democracy, one where service to the people is prized above party-loyalty and ideology. But in reality, the civil state is entirely hollow and imprisoned in an intricate prison designed to maintain ultimate power and control within the shadowy claws of the military and clerical establishments. The Zorasani deep state is real, but its so deep and pervasive that it is the state. This deep state, so powerful it is, that it is able to arbitrarily detain, torture and murder opponents and critics at will, it is able to act with impunity and craft a foreign policy many care little for or even support. This sad affair is made only worse by State President Evren Volkan and First Minister Farzad Akbari, who not only acquiesce to the deep state, but actively and enthusiastically serve it.

But what does this have to do with the water shortage? Well, everything.

The military is correct in that climate change can be blamed, but not exclusively. In truth, the water shortage is an issue long in the making. The obsession and addiction to industrialisation, expanding and modernising the petrochemical industry did succeed in lifting over 85 million people out of poverty and delivering Zorasan as a potential future great power, but it has quite literally sucked the land dry, at the expense of the people. This is exacerbated by the state-owned water company being strong armed by the military into fuelling industry, rather than agriculture. Infrastructure has been left to rot, or much needed infrastructure has been re-used for oil and gas. Once vital pipelines carrying water, now carry oil and gas to Xiaodong and once limited aquifers are now dry. Profit and growth over public health, that defines Zorasan today.

The army caused this crisis through its thirst for profit, now it has left millions thirsting for water. But the law makers of Zorasan can do nothing, because they cannot call out of the army for doing so, nor can they act sufficiently because the military will block them from denting their profits. That’s not ignoring the reality that the army uses water as a political tool. The only way Zorasan can overcome this crisis, is to become aware of its sad reality, to realise there is no freedom or liberty, that change is the only necessity now. The state must be freed and with it, will come the waters of life and freedom.

GOVERNMENT CAUSES CONTROVERSY AS IT HOISTS RACIALLY INCLUSIVE PRIDE FLAG
The controversial flag, which adds a black and brown stripe to the traditional rainbow banner, will fly at all government properties

Critics of the additional stripes argue that they detract from the flag's original meaning while also causing racial division.

SPÁLGLEANN – The Glytteronian Government has announced it has ordered all government buildings and embassies abroad to a fly a modified version of the traditional rainbow flag. The new flag includes a two additional stripes, one brown and one black, at the bottom of the flag. Intended to be more representative of the international LGBT+ community, it has been raised by a number of cities throughout the world with diverse populations. Glytter is the first country to fly the flag at all state properties.

Senior members of the Mac Suibhne Government attended a flag hoisting ceremony outside Carrowdun Palace this morning. The Taoiseach said the flag "better represented of the international LGBTQ community".

"By raising this flag, we show that our country stands with them, acknowledging the plight of LGBTQ persons throughout the world. Our nation stands in solidarity with you, as we have for a millennium and will for more to come" he said in an address at the flag raising ceremony.

Since the advent of the pride flag, successive Glytteronian governments have flown it on government lands. With the onset of Pride Month, the government continues the annual tradition. In addition to flying the flag at all government properties, schools, businesses, and even royal properties fly the flag. At Saint Ellen's Palace, the seat of the Ghaillish monarch, the pride flag is flown below the Royal Standard.

Colmán O'Dea, who serves as the Minister of Children and Social Inclusion, said that the new bands represent the inclusion of people of colour in the LGBT+ community.

“So much has changed in our world since the pride flag was first designed. A lot of good, but there’s more we can do. and need to do. Especially when it comes to recognizing people of colour in the LGBTQ+ community. To fuel this important conversation and show our unwavering support for LGBTQ+ people of colour, we’ve expanded the colours of the flag to include black and brown.”

However, the new flag as drawn criticism. The flag has historically represented LGBT+ people as a whole, and critics of the additional bands believe they are unnecessary, since the flag is already a symbol of unity.

The leader of the opposition, Pádraig Mac Piarais, called the changes to the flag "vile" and asked if the Mac Suibhne Government would be "adding a white stripe as well? Or are white members of that community forgotten, an increasing trend in Euclea".

He added that it was "absolutely disgraceful" that the flag was flying above Saint Ellen's Palace. "This is yet another attempt by the political elite to tell the people of the country that they do not matter in an attempt to pander to immigrants and international governments alike".

The leader of the conservative National Party, Liam Ó Cuillinn, said the issue at large was "representative of identity politics at its worst" and called on the government to "work on defending its anti-middle class, anti-worker budget instead of playing arts and crafts".

Robert Kean, an ex-minister and former Laird Mayor of Spálgleann rebuked their remarks. He is one of Glytter's most prominent LGBTQ+ In a tweet, Mr. Kean said he "stood fully behind the intentions behind the additional stripes".

"We cannot forget that queer people of colour in this country are themselves marginalized. In a country where most homosexuals have been able to life comfortable for its recorded history, it is easy for us to forget this".

The ex-minister's comments are backed by data. According to the Office of LGBTQ+ Affairs, which operates under the Ministry of Children and Social Inclusion, in Spálgleann nine gay bars and night clubs were required to provide anti-racism training to their staff after complaints were filed against them, making allegations of discrimination against nonwhite patrons the office found substantiated.

However, the issue is not simply a political one. The additional bands have also caused outrage online. A number of posts on social media have been highly critical of the decision, with some users arguing the flag was never supposed to represent skin colour, but sexual and gender identity.

Lucia Evans-Ní Sheanacháin, the leader of a non-governmental organization known as One Love, told GBF News Online that the backlash was indicative of a "wider problem in the LGBTQ+ community".

"Simply put, there is a lack of internationalist. This is an issue not just faced in Glytter, but in many countries. However, in a country such as Glytter where people of colour tend to be new arrivals, this issue can often be exasperated. Instead of attacking the flag or the activists or the government officials behind its implementation, member's of Glytter's own queer community should instead be asking how to eradicate racism within the community".

Ms. Evans-Ní Sheanacháin is of Bahian descent and also spoke of her personal experience in Glytter. "Growing up in this country as a black woman presents enough challenges on its own. The community that I felt would always have my back no matter what has at times openly rejected me, and this has left me hurt beyond words. That sense of hurt is not unique to me, but is experience by people LGBTQ+ people of colour in this nation. Together, we can and must do better. Lives may depend on it".

Last year, an eleven year old boy took his life after he was bullied by his classmates for being black. Jimmy O'Reilly, who is the country's first non-white taoiseach, regularly spoke of the racial abuse he suffered growing up as a child in Glytter, and as a politician. He was the frequent target of racial slurs from members of the country's hard-right, who the ex-taoiseach was openly critical of.

The Mac Suibhne Government has pledged to combat racism in the country, a contrast to the government of Frank Casarnach who was openly opposed to identity politics and brought a number of Ghaillish nationalists and far-right TCs from Liberty's back-bench into his government. One such TC was Mr. Mac Piarais.

Despite the outcry, a spokesperson for the LGBTQ+ Affairs Office has confirmed the government will go forward with flying the flag. She added that it is expected "a number of citizens, communities, and corporations will follow suit".

Delivery of S-400s to Zorasan

The delivery of a total of four battalions worth of S-400 missile systems to Zorasan was confirmed earlier this week by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The delivery of said systems comes after the deal that was reached in 2014 for the sale of the systems worth an estimated FED $4.8 Billion. Neither side has confirmed the total amount that the deal was worth.

The S-400 is consider one of Kylaris's best missile defense system, is the continued develop of the S family of missile systems originally dating back to the S-100 designed in 1967, with further development being conducted up till now with the S-400 a large upgrade over the previous S-300. Said system has not been available to export until recently with Marolevia only willing to sell the S-300 system but with the development of the S-400 and the interests of several nations Marolevia rapidly developed an export version for both its alles and others abroad. The delivery of the systems marks the first time the S-400 will be operated outside of Marolevia.

The system was confirmed by sources within the Marolev military to be able to accurately shoot down both ballistic missiles and modern aircraft fielded by both the Euclean Community and aircraft operated by Marolevia. There are unconfirmed reports that the system has the ability to counter strategic bombers though military sources were not available to comment on these reports.

The delivery of the S-400 missile system continues the growing relationship and the increasing amount of arms deals between Zorasan and Marolevia. There has also been rumors from the government of talks concerning the new Marolev Universal Combat Platform but neither Zorasan or Marolevia have confirmed this.

Both nations have historically been incredibly friendly over the years, with the relationship going as far back as the 1980s following the fall of the MSU, and the rise of the Union of Zorasani Ifranic Republics. Previously during the 1950s and 60s both the Marolev Syndicalist Union and the Union of Zorasani States shared a similar relationship to the one we see today between Marolevia and the UZIR.

Following the Abdication of Emperor Constantine and the succession of his brother, Emperor Micheal, to the throne, also marks the beginning of the new Conservative Government that has been formed in the wake of the elections in May and the subsequent political chaos following the attacks on the OSRV by the Royal Security Force, the new Government has finally been approved by the Tsar. SENATE NARROWLY CONFIRMS STANTON TO SUPREME COURT

Image
Stanton was confirmed by the closest margin since 1956, emphasizing the controversy of his appointment.
Valeins, Vallois - The Senate voted to send Jack Stanton to the Supreme Court on Friday, ushering in a generational conservative majority and delivering a huge victory to Prime Minister Bennett after a vicious confirmation battle inflamed by allegations of sexual assault against the nominee.

As shrieks of "shame, shame, shame" echoed from the public galleries, divided and angry senators voted 76-74 to endorse a lifetime seat on the court for Stanton. The protests underscored the vital importance of an appointment that will have sweeping consequences for some of the nation's most contested disputes over electoral and campaign finance reform, the scope of federal surveillance programs, the increasing power of the executive, and delicate balance of power between federal and provincial governments.

Hours later, Stanton was sworn in at a private ceremony at the Supreme Court by Chief Justice Thibault Devaux, accompanied by his wife, two children and Prime Minister Bennett. Outside, a crowd of noisy protesters gathered, and was eventually pushed back from the ornate building's steps by police.

The vicious battle over Stanton now moves into the focus of the upcoming 2020 presidential election. While the Progressive Republican led Alliance coalition are convinced that outrage will have subsided, the protracted fight over the Supreme Court seat has only served to deepen the rift between the AP-DS and PRP. Despite the conciliatory language of the PM, the AP-DS has publicly expressed their dissatisfaction with the vote to the press and on social media. AP-DS Senator Heloise Charlet (Laussonne) called the confirmation a "disgrace that will haunt us all the way to the next general." Senator Charlet was one of nine AP-DS senators that voted against Stanton. Three voted in his favour and were joined by eight members of the New Centre (NC).

In the end, the Prime Minister was able to use extensive connections to moderates in the Senate and expend much of his political capital in order to secure the nomination. Sources close to the Prime Minister hinted that with a fragile majority in Parliament, the Prime Minister has been determined to secure the Coalition's achievements in the event of a defeat in the next general election. Despite a perception of being on the ropes since 2017, Stanton's nomination indicates that the Coalition government is still a formidable force in Valeins.

Still, it was a close-run thing: Stanton's nomination was nearly derailed by allegations by former male students that the judge sexually assaulted and harassed them while Stanton was a law professor at Fairfax University, Valeins in the early 1990s, which sparked uproar and forced the Coalition to delay the confirmation vote for several months until they were able to secure the votes needed to confirm him. Stanton, who is a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Sotirias the Holy Redeemer (aka Calumniorist Church), has expressed anti-LGBT+ sentiments in the past as well possessing a remarkably socially conservative judicial record.

Public backlash to his appointment has already ignited with Valentirians taking to the streets and social media to express their outrage. Several LGBT+ groups, including the Harborough Equality Association, the largest LGBT+ organization in Asteria Inferior, have organized protests and have called for Stanton's impeachment. HEA spokesperson Nolan Masson remarked that it was a "particular blow to the LGBT+ community" with pride month beginning in July. Opposition parties, in particular the Valentirian Federation of Labour and National Liberals, have offered their support to the accusers and LGBT+ groups. On the reverse side Stanton's confirmation has been celebrated by socially conservatives who have been fighting a losing battle in the predominantly socially liberal political landscape of 21st century Valentir. Calumniorist Divine Mother Éloïse Duchemin urged fellow church members to "honour" Stanton's courage and "remain steadfast"in the war against liberalism."

Recordbreaking heatwave causes disruption across Aimilia and Euclea
Published at 2019-07-02T14:14Z
Reported by Reporter Godam Nekbuganhse, Reporter Simit Manhdantaspeg

Temperatures are expected to reach up to 40°C around Aimilia, and have already reached 37°C in parts of the country on the 1st of July. The heatwave, the hottest on record, is expected to break around the 6th of July. Until then, it will cause widespread disruption.

Aimilia last experienced a heatwave in 2016, but the one this year is proving to be of much greater magnitude, with much greater effect. Some workplaces have shut down for its duration, while there are reports some have died on the job, most notably an asbestos removal worker in southern Aimilia and an office worker in the capital, Kakzazna. The March Against Discrimination, the country's premier LGBTQ+ event, has been postponed from the 30th of June until the heatwave ends. The drowning of a child in the Liberty Fountain in the capital was reportedly linked to an attempt to cool off in the heat, and the fountain has been since shut off.

The Office for Emergency Services Coordination issued an Orange Alert notice for the entire country on the 1st, which is the second highest level of alert out of four. It emphasised that the elderly find and stay in indoors spaces with cooling available, and advised all people remember to stay hydrated and to avoid direct sunlight. It said that family and friend networks should be utilised to check on the vulnerable, which includes the elderly, those with reduced mobility or who are generally less capable of independent living, children, and those with preexisting conditions that could be affected. Of these groups, however, the Office said in its press release that the elderly were the most vulnerable due to their lack of community networking, and a combination of other risk factors.

Despite the Office for Emergency Services Coordination's advice to use air conditioning heavily, this has not been possible for all at all times, as blackouts have been appearing in parts of the country during the hottest parts of the day. Some of these were because of infrastructure failing in the heat, in one case which was widely disseminated on social media, a power pole falling because of what seemed to be the liquefaction of the asphalt at its base. However, there have also been issues with generation being insufficient, despite agreements with neighbouring countries, it is understood as they are also experiencing high usage. The Aimilian Association of Professional Carers advised the acquisition of generators among its members, while others have suggested homemade evaporative cooling solutions. The Nhapandasas Chair of Health Science at the University of Mantandik conveyed alarming figures that nearly half of those over 65 are at risk of a "serious" impact to their health in the coming weeks.

On the 30th, opposition parties attempted to pass exceptional measures to deal with the heatwave emergency, including allowing manual labourers time off work, but the bill was voted down after only one reading with the Conservative-Liberal government accusing the proposers of the law as "overreacting" in their reply. The Conservative Group spokesperson Dameded Kobkubuzez told us that the government had "full faith in the preparations [they] had legislated, and which will now be implemented by the Office for Emergency Services Coordination and other emergency services." Unusually, the General Industrial Union of Aimilia, the second-largest union in Aimilia by membership, called for an immediate and general strike during the heatwave to protect the "safety of labour" in response. However, it generally seems that participation in the strike has been small, likely because of its short notice.

Another side of the heatwave has, however, been a notable uptick in visits to tourist areas in southern Aimilia. The shores of Lake Sansoleil throng with those taking some time off, enjoying clear blue skies and hot sandy beaches, including many young people. While many are there only because they are off work or school, it is nonetheless a rare opportunity, and a strange occurrence to experience this kind of weather anywhere in northern Euclea.

HEAT WAVE BRINGS SWELTERING TEMPERATURES TO ESTMERE, EUCLEA WITH THE POTENTIAL OF BREAKING RECORDS

Image
Beach-goers in Great Yaremouth have embraced the beach to escape the heat.
Nation-wide, Estmere - Estmere and countries throughout Euclea are bracing for the onset of a much dreaded heatwave, which could bring temperatures as high as 40 degrees to parts of the country.

Temperatures were expected to reach 35 degrees or more on Monday, and climb even further until the peak on Thursday and Friday. The heatwave is also anticipated to continue into next week, but has the potential to break over the weekend.

The south of the country – including most of Flurland - will be worst affected by the rising temperatures. The heatwave is centered around the middle of the continent, hitting a number of countries and causing wide-spread disruption.

The government is encouraging people to remain in doors when possible and to remain hydrated. The Secretary for Healthcare, Edgar Allerton (Ps), said that "ensuring you remain hydrated by drinking plenty of fluids is incredibly important. Even if you do not feel thirsty, make sure you are consistently drinking fluids. Avoid drinks with caffeine or alcohol, as these are adverse to remaining hydrated".

Allterton and the Healthcare Secretariat are working closely with local governments to ensure people have access to water. Shelters are being opened across in the country in schools and senior centers to provide a place for populations most at risk during the heatwave to escape the rising temperatures. Children, the elderly, and the homeless are most at risk of suffering from heat-related health complications.

In some southern cities, such as Warminster and Catherby, humidity has exasperated the problem. Today, much of central and southern Flurland record temperatures rising above 40 degrees. In the major cities, humidity. Local governments are taking extra caution as a result, and are encouraging residents to check in frequently on their neighbors.

"Do not leave your children unattended, and watch out for your neighbors - especially the elderly. If you have an elderly neighbor, consider inviting them over for tea or a meal. For their safety, it is best if they do not remain alone" a spokesperson for Warminister's Municipal Department of Health said.

Organizer's of the city's annual pride parade, set to take place this coming Sunday, are considering postponing the event if the heat-wave doesn't break before the weekend.

Temperatures brought by the heat-wave are set to the among the highest since weather was recorded in Estmere. The heat-wave could also set records in countries throughout the Euclean Community, with the possibility that temperatures will be higher than at any point in record history in many member-states. Abmormally high temperatures have been reported as far north as Werania and as far south as Florena. Aimilia has already recorded its hottest ever temperatures.

A weather system over the Gulf of Assionare is creating high atmospheric pressure over the region, drawing up hot air from southern Euclea and Badawiya, raising temperatures. Climate activists have pegged the unusually high temperatures to global warming caused by climate change. Angela Matthiasson, a member of the Progressives who servers as Secretary for Energy and the Environment, said the heat-wave was a "wake-up call" and that the world needed to act faster in combating climate change.

An ally of the Prime Minister, Reginald Wilton-Smyth, dismissed Matthiasson's concerns, saying the climate "naturally warms as it has throughout history".

Last month's Euclean election results saw a surge in support for Green parties throughout the EC, who have brought the issue of climate change to the forefront of Euclean politics. EC President Walker has vowed to renew the bloc's efforts to combat climate change and reduce carbon emissions.

Reports of water shortages in Duljun "are fabrications" states regional governor
04 June, 2019 | By Jiang Huliang

Image
Duljun AAT Governor Ukudenggi Longkodo

HENJINTAO - The Governor of the Autonomous Administrative Territory of Duljun Ukedenggi Longkodo today denied reports that there have been water shortages in the region as the neighbouring southern regions of Zorasan have reported widespread difficulties in the past month.

"The Duljunese AAT government has been successful in mitigating potential water shortages that have arisen due to our Zorasani brothers present predicament. The regional government will continue to address the potential environmental factors that could result in a situation similar to that of Zorasan."

Ukudenggi's comments come after foreign saboteurs and wreckers have attempted to propagate the lie that the Duljunese AAT has faced chronic water shortages. Senrian-owned media organisation the Xiaodongese "Human Rights Monitor" has stated that the Xiaodongese governments "inability to provide for its citizens has led to a situation similar to that in Zoransan[/i]".

"What you have coming from foreign media companies should be taken with caution. I have visited the Jingxia dam last weekend and can confirm that any reports of water shortages are fabrications intended to deframe and undermine the Xiaodongese state and the Xiaodongese people".

"Both the Duljun AAT and the central government put the welfare of the Xiaodongese people above any material temptations. The government has ensured that private water providers are conducting their duty to ensure the people have access to water."

Unlike the rest of Xiaodong where water is managed by the state-owned Water Management Corporation in Duljun water resources and providers have been privatised to several domestic companies with oversight from the territorial government. The water privatisation has been controversial in the past when several households were denied water due to a failure to pay for water charges albeit this has been reversed following new legislation and a restructing of the water provision system in the administrative territory.

Ukudenggi stated that the Duljunese AAT would be willing to donate water from storage to Zorasan to aid in its own water shortages.

"As neighbours to Zorasan the Duljun AAT is well aware of the fraternal bond between the two great nations of Zorasan and Xiaodong. We will do whatever we can to ensure our Zorasani brothers do not suffer from the actions of a corrupt few."

Protests spread over water shortages

Image
Protests reported in Samrin and southern provinces of Pardaran as water crisis continues.
Zahedan, Union Capital Territory- Protests over water shortages have spread from Armavand to Samrin and southern Pardaran, as the government struggles to distribute water to effected regions. At least 3,000 people protested in Samrin’s capital of Karandagh and several hundred people took to the streets in the Pardarian town of Jomairan. It comes as First Minister Farzad Akbari spoke on television saying, “no solution will come overnight, patience is required.”

The demonstrations which began in Armavand’s capital of Saravan have spread to the neighbouring Union Republic of Samrin and several provinces of southern Pardaran. At least 50,000 people were reported to have demonstrated in Saravan today, while 3,000 people were reported in Karandagh. Several hundred people were also protesting in Jomairan, Kalasar, Jabdaraq and Salavat.

The protests in Karandagh were met with a heavy police presence, with Governor Mardeen Ali warning citizens in a radio interview, “we won’t tolerate criminal behaviour and we will not tolerate elements misusing this crisis for political ends.”

However, Samrin’s governor also struck a conciliatory tone saying, “this is a crisis that is truly dangerous and the UR government is working as hard as it can, we’ve also received immediate assistance from the Union government and it is vital that people remain calm.” He explained that much of the shortages was down to damaged infrastructure, “we have such extensive pipelines for water running from the north, that at parts, there is much damage. It will be fixed, and water will return, we’ve seen access increase across the Union Republic.”

Governor Ali also thanked his counterpart from the Duljunese Autonomous Administrative Territory in northern Xiaodong.

Duljun’s Governor Ukudenggi Longkodo said "As neighbours to Zorasan the Duljun AAT is well aware of the fraternal bond between the two great nations of Zorasan and Xiaodong. We will do whatever we can to ensure our Zorasani brothers do not suffer from the actions of a corrupt few."

Governor Ali said, “I’d like to thank my colleague in Duljun for his offer of support. The fraternal bond between Zorasan and Xiaodong is strong and deep, I am confident that together, we will find common solutions to shared issues.”

Much of the protests have focused on ending the water crisis, which has lasted over a month and effected over 5 million people.

In Saravan, the crowds continued to demand an end to shortages and for water to be shared more equally nationally. Prominent Armavand MP, Abdul Reza Shahrestani again addressed the crowds saying, “the north has plenty of water, never will you see Zahedan or Mazdavand go a single hour without water. If they’re swimming in water, they have water to spare, Armavandi and Samrinian farmers need water too.”

45 people were arrested in Saravan for disorderly conduct and 12 were arrested in Karandagh, though all demonstrations were markedly peaceful in nature.

Governor of Armavand, Khosrow Husseini has come under intense pressure after it was reported that he had prioritised the distribution of bottled water to affluent districts of Saravan, he also come under fire from Armavandi MPs for refusing to follow through on Union Government ordered crackdowns on water hoarders.

The pressure was further added when the Secretary for Government Coordination, Sarena Razaei told Morvarid News that she would investigate Governor Husseini’s failings, “we will investigate a failure or refusal to carry out a union government mandated order. If he refused to crackdown on criminals, profiteering out of people’s hardship, then action will be taken.”

Governor Husseini for his part denied the allegations on twitter saying, “under no circumstances would I or any official of the Armavandi government refuse to carry out of a federal order. These allegations are false and politically motivated.”

As the union government made further moves to alleviate the crisis, the military has warned that “subversive elements could be at work, causing or exacerbating the crisis in the south.” Prominent MP, Colonel Sadegh Novin told a packed session of the Popular Council, “it is known that Duljunese minority elements hold hatred for the Union and have used violence in the past. We must be prepared for Duljunese action being responsible for the crisis.”

The General Intelligence Directorate which falls under the purview of the Irfanic Revolutionary Army followed up with a statement saying, “RESAT is currently investigating numerous reports of illicit and violent action by Duljunese secessionists in Samrin UR and Armavand UR. RESAT will take all measures necessary to protect the integrity of the Union and the wellbeing of its citizens.”

The Samrin Daily, published an article this morning reporting on rumours of vandalism and sabotage of fountains and pipes in the city of Aliabad, near the border with Xiaodong.

First Minister Farzad Akbari also addressed the nation at midday saying, “the Union Government and the administrations of the three effected Union Republics are working tirelessly to alleviate the crisis and return fresh water to all citizens”, he also urged for calm saying, “disruption and chaos will not hasten results and will not alter water stocks being low. I urge all citizens of the south to remain calm and at peace, we are working hard and you will not be ignored.”

The First Minister however warned that a lasting solution may take some time, “what we face is a crisis of political, social and climatic natures. No solution will come overnight, patience is required.”

More as the story develops.

The Federal Government has issued a nationwide health warning as the Euclean heatwave struck hard at Etruria today. Temperatures as high as 42 degrees were reported in Solaria, Vilanija and Vicalvi, while highs of 39 degrees were reported as far north as Fauglia and San Alessandro.

Federal Minister for Health and Social Services, Lucca Cancellieri issued the health warning at a press conference. He told reporters, “Euclea is experiencing a period of heightened temperatures that is detrimental to health and safety. Etruria is expected to also see heightened temperatures and may well exceed current records. As a result, I am formally issuing a health warning across the entire Federation.”

The government has urged people to take extra care, “people should be extra alert of the heat while commuting, travelling and working. We strongly urge people to carry extra bottles of water and to keep to the shade as often as possible. If individuals feel ill while travelling, we strongly urge people to stop and to take cover in shaded areas and drink water.”

The government has also asked people to be “alert for one another, if someone looks ill or in distress, do what you can to assist. If they require medical assistance, escort them to the nearest paramedic or call for an ambulance.”

The National Police Service is also being ordered to keep watch for ill individuals.

The Federal Health Service has announced that it will be working closely with state-level administrations to provided pop-up support stations and will be offering free bottles of water for people reporting health issues. The FHS has also posted information on heat stroke, including symptoms and responses on social media and on public billboards across Etruria.

Schools have been shut down across Carinthia, Tarpeia and parts of Vespasia, while Carvagna and Torrazza have placed parents on standby should temperatures exceed 30 degrees.

Churches have opened as stop off points and are offering bottled water and fans to passers-by.

The FHS has also warned people to avoid making use of lakes, canals, reservoirs and beaches as a means of cooling down.

A FHS spokesman said, “people must be very alert when making use of bodies of water to cool down. Any sudden transition from the heat to cold water can cause thermal shock and can be fatal. We urge people to enter the water slowly and carefully, to allow the body to accustom to the temperature change.”

The FHS’ warning follows the death of four people in southern Etruria, when they entered the sea before their bodies could adapt to the temperature changes.

The highest temperature recorded today was at the town of Puntalazzo in southern Vespasia, where thermometers recorded 46 degrees Celsius.

Records were broken in Vilanija, Solaria and Dubovica where temperatures reached 42 degrees, exceeding the highest record temperature of 40 degrees in 2009. Northern regions of Vespasia also saw sweltering temperatures of 39 degrees, which is unseasonably hot for the cities of Fauglia and San Alessandro.

A weather system over the Gulf of Assionare is creating high atmospheric pressure over the region, drawing up hot air from southern Euclea and Badawiya, raising temperatures.

Temperatures brought by the heat-wave are set to the among the highest since weather was recorded in Euclea. The heat-wave could also set records in countries throughout the Euclean Community, with the possibility that temperatures will be higher than at any point in record history in many member-states. Abmormally high temperatures have been reported as far north as Werania and as far south as Florena. Estmere and Aimilia has already recorded its hottest ever temperatures.

Kesselbourg - The government announced today that one of their two nominees for the Euclean Commission would be Rune Nyström, the former Leader of the Green Party and Vice President, the first Green Party politician nominated by any country for a top-EC role.

Hot off the heels off of the Green Party's surprising win in last month's election, the Foreign Secretary Erica Öberg stated that the government had nominated Nyström because of his "deep knowledge and understanding of the climate crisis", hoping that he would bring "a new sense of dedication and expertise to a role that will become increasingly important in the years ahead".

Nyström, 66, who joined the Euclean Parliament in early 2018 following the death of another Green MEP, and was recently elected to serve as co-leader of the PGNM group in the Euclean Parliament, said he was "incredibly honoured to accept this nomination, as much as I may have been surprised by this instantaneous promotion".

Nyström previously served as Green Party leader between 1995 and 2016, and was their first elected MP in 1992. He is widely credited for establishing the now-governing Green Party as a serious Party at the national level. He served as Vice President from 2015 to 2016 in the CSD/Green coalition, spearheading the reorganisation of Ordennya into a federation. Before entering politics, he first worked as a high school Politics teacher, before becoming a Professor of Economics at the Vastdal School of Politics & Public Administration, where he wrote the widely-acclaimed book "Seeing Green".

The government also announced that they had nominated Victoria Amin, who leads the United Socialist group in the Neuistrian State Parliament, for the position of Commissioner for Consumer Affairs,

The announcement of the finalised Euclean Commission will be made in the middle of the month.

Democratic Alliance rebrands itself; gains new leader

Image
The new leader of United Satucin (formerly
Democratic Alliance), Léon Massé
Gatôn, Anniane - After a tumultuous two years after a devastating loss in the 2017 Referendum, the Democratic Alliance has finally emerged from a long internal struggle with a new leader and a new identity.

Léon Massé, a relative newcomer and Delegate for Édon, Sythes, was able to handily defeat long-time leader Gérard Genest. The contest was brought about by a vote of no confidence in Genest by both a majority in the parliamentary party and the membership, though the contest was delayed for several months to allow for a unified, albeit unsuccessful, campaign against the Prime Minister's Constitutional reforms.

Former leader Gérard Genest's announcement that he intended to stand in the ensuing leadership contest came as a surprise. While his support among the membership had suffered considerably, political analysts noted that he retained a strong faction in the parliamentary party and during the battle over constitutional reform had managed to regain some support and trust among the rank and file. Ultimately however it was not enough.

Massé's absolute victory over Genest, gaining support from over 88% of the party membership and a large part of the parliamentary party, has given him the ability and chance to radically redefine the Democratic Alliance. Today he has announced a full re-branding of the party, intending to modernise it and reveal a new path forward.

Image

Massé has stated that the party is now focused upon healing the divides in Satucin, both political and economic, and presenting a new, unified, liberal and humanitarian force in politics. He has called the current system "stale and stagnant" and that "Allaire cannot continue to rule Satucin unchallenged."

The Chairman for the National Unity Party has criticised the re-branding of the Democratic Alliance, saying that it is "a phoney attempt to sweep all of [the Democratic Alliance's] problems under the rug in an attempt to deceive voters" but that "the National Unity Party welcomes the challenge and will continue to strive to be the voice of the people."

PRESIDENT CONFIRMS TWO NEW JUDGES

Image
The Grand Mufti of Rakin, Oguz Topbas, was confirmed as the final Supreme Judge -- making him the 11th in total.
Adunis, Transtsabaran Federation - With the success of the 'Accurate Judicial Act' almost two weeks ago, the government has been hard pressed in filling the new vacancies within the judicial system,

Completing his pledge to the Den and Öroqic groups, the first named judge was Ashur-Dan -- an Irfanic Scholar and lawyer of the Den ethnic group. The President confirmed Ashur-Dan within a day of the passing of the bill, highlighting that "[he] was a great intellectual who would do well to best represent the Den within the halls of the Federation's justice." Yet, unfortunate stagnation came across the government. Security forces have confirmed this is due to the protests and riots incited by the opposition.

Aryeh Kahlon has told his supporters to "fight the governmental tyranny at every turn" and that failing to act would "extinguish the last fires of freedom." President Tughluq called the opposition leader "a traitor to his constituents" and "to all those who believe in the Federation and the equality of all its ethnic groups."

Minor clashes across major urban centres within the Federation saw the President withhold his successive announcement as he became preoccupied with speaking to the citizens about their concerns. In Adunis in particular the president traveled to the constituency of the opposition leader and aimed to explain the necessity of the increase in the court, to cheers and respect from the Atudite populace.

With some of the most rowdy of provocateurs now in prison or fined, the President announced today that the Grand Mufti of Rakin, Oguz Topbas, would fill the 11th seat on the court. Topbas, an Öroqic person, would be the first to ever sit on the 'The Federation's Court of Justice'.

When the Grand Mufti was asked 'what would be the first thing you believe you would tackle on the court?' he replied that "elements within the constitution need to be updated, as we have already seen that despite the best intentions of our founding fathers, population and demographic change was clearly not accounted for!"

Layoffs, "limited privatization" of National Railways to begin in earnest
Transport Minister outlines plan amidst rumored financial difficulties
SHARE Image Image Image Image

Image
Vilcasuamanian National Railways has long suffered from increased competition, declining traffic,
and administrative mismanagement

A program of "limited privatization" of Vilcasuamanian National Railways (VNG) will be taking effect in the coming weeks, according to a statement from the Ministry of Transport this morning. The Minister, Ricardas Pakstaitis, said that private investors will be allowed to purchase stakes in the state-owned railway network, which has been in a period of long decline for several decades.

As part of the privatization, he added, VNG will be laying off some 1,400 employees—approximately 23% of the company's workforce—by the end of the fiscal year. Severance packages are expected to be provided for workers who enroll within a two-week period, with involuntary layoffs to begin after that. The downsizing will be accompanied by a suspension of one passenger rail lines and several commuter rail lines (click here to see if you are affected by passenger service suspensions in your area).

The financial statements of Ministry of Transport enterprises are not required by law to be made public, and in fact have not been publicized since 1998. However, it has long been speculated that the future of National Railways, the cornerstone of modern public infrastructure in the mid-20th century, is in dire straits. Steeply-declining passenger traffic has been attributed to recent expansion of air infrastructure, as well as increased competition from private corporations—most notably Pikuadžė Rail, a tourist and charter service that holds a de facto monopoly through the heavily-visited Temėbampas National Heritage Sanctuary.

VNG suffers from an aging rolling stock and antiquated locomotives in need of constant maintenance, which deplete the company's already-marginal operating profit. Conservative critics of the VNG have also alleged that the National Railway Workers Syndicate has contributed to the stagnation by wage push inflation and strikes that have "destroyed passenger confidence"; these critics, such as Civic Renewal Leader Daumantas Zemaitis, contend the Minister's announcement to be tantamount to an admission of these allegations.

Pressed on whether the government was considering relinquishing its status as majority shareholder in the VNG, Pakstaitis evaded answering the question directly, instead maintaining the Ministry's "commitment to ensuring affordable, first-class service for all Vilcasuamanians."

The Minister also declined to comment on the possibility of partial or even full liquidation of the company.

The announcement comes at a poor time for the government of Vytautas Kaparauskas as they prepare to enter election season. The Chancellor's center-left coalition entered office four years ago with a promise of reinvestment in Vilcasuamanas' state-owned enterprises, including the faltering rail system. However, according to a number of sources, this has been a matter of tension within the coalition government; certain left-leaning factions in the coalition, including the Chancellor's own Sotirian Social Alliance, reportedly regard their centrist partners as failing to adequately pursue the Chancellor's policy in regards to these enterprises. Transport Minister Pakstaitis and his Liberal Party have been accused of making only superficial moves to modernize public infrastructure, with corporate lobbying cited among other factors.

Regardless of the nature of the fractures within the Chancellor's government over transportation policy, the privatization program promises to be a significant talking point in the upcoming general election, with conservatives likely to seize on the layoffs as a key example of Kaparauskas' failure to provide the economic regeneration that was promised in 2015.

Minister Denies Misleading Public

SHAREImage Image Image Image

Robert Van Thys, Minister of the Environment

The Minister for the Environment, Robert Van Thys, gave evidence in the District Court in Klemsdorp today as the civil suit against the Ministry of the Environment continued.

Van Thys was questioned by the lawyer representing the group of widows regarding his knowledge of reports indicating that drinking water in Klemsdorp was unsafe for human consumption. He was also questioned regarding his involvement in suppressing these reports.

Van Thys denied any wrongdoing and said that he had knowledge of these reports. This makes it the first time that the minister had publicly acknowledged that these reports existed.

He said that the allegations against him were "fabrications". He remained adamant that there was no suppression or intent to mislead the public.
"There was no active or passive attempt on my part to mislead the public or suppress any report that had been presented to me," he said. "These allegations have been part of a wider scheme to implicate me in some sort of coverup."

Head counsel Drees Reutenbach questioned the minister regarding his knowledge of the reports that existed. In particular he referenced the report that was released by two researchers who claimed to have been threatened by the ministry. Van Thys responded by denying the threats, and said that the government was acting in accordance with guidelines when interacting with independent researchers.
"The ministry never releases a report bearing its approval from independent researchers without validating the data first," Van Thys said. "As the validation hadn't even begun, the ministry decided to prevent the report from going public to avoid any conflict of information and causing confusion among the public."

Reutenbach said that preventing the report from going public was suppressing it. Van Thys disagreed, and referred the lawyer to Section Six of the Information Act 1960.

Section Six allows the government to refuse publication of reports from independent researchers and grants ministers discretion when deciding whether or not to refuse publication. Van Thys said that he was exercising this discretion when he refused to publish the most recent report.

Justice Hendrik Swanpoel asked the minister whether or not he was aware of a similar report presented to the government in 2006, which was also refused publication. Van Thys said that he "wasn't minister then" and did not wish to comment.

Government solicitor Ariana Van Der Byl questioned Van Thys about his knowledge of previous reports contradicting the government's official reports. He said that he was aware of them but the government failed to replicate the results those reports had.
"We have a very thorough verification process for independent research," he said. "Government researchers go out and replicate or attempt to replicate the findings as close as possible before we publish both government and independent research."

Van Thys explained that the reason for this was that the government did not want to mislead people by producing research that did not match with independent research.

Reutenbach said that the ministry had done exactly what the minister said they were avoiding, and that people had died because of this misinformation.
"Six people have died because the government did not want to use independent reports that contradicted what they were claiming," he said. "It is increasingly obvious that this is a case of serious negligence on the behalf of the environment ministry." Reutenbach also alleged that there were "ulterior motives" behind this. Justice Swanpoel asked for Reutenbach to elaborate on this, and Reutenbach refused.

Dr Martin Snyders of the National Environmental Institute (NOI) is expected to give evidence on Monday.

Mathrabumi Consulate in Jindao Defaced by Pro-Democratic Organisation

Pierre Zhou
21:47 - July 7, 2019

Image
The Mathrabumi embassy in the Mathratown district in Shilou in June

The Mathrabumi consulate in Shilou has been defaced by a pro-democratic organisation amidst overseas calls for change back home.

The Mathran Trade Union League is a pro-democratic organisation protesting the authoritarian leadership of Mathrabumi from Jindao after they fled their homeland to avoid persecution back in 2009. Coming from a similar background and sharing a similar story to many other Mathran and Xiaodongese democratic groups, they have based themselves in Jindao to enjoy the luxury of the assured liberties in Jindao that are guaranteed by the Xiao-Estmerish Jindao Treaty signed in 1990.

Some take these liberties for granted and as much Jindao often becomes a breeding ground for disruptive, and often violent, protests against foreign governments from foreign citizens. The attack on the Mathran consulate by the MTUL is another example of this. At around 02:00 local time on the warm and humid morning of July 7th, a gang of what Jindanese police estimate to be around 7 to 10 in size attacked the Mathran consulate, defacing its walls and signs with graffiti boasting messages such as "Ganapuli out!" and "Traitors be gone". The group of Mathrans also threw bricks into some of the front windows, breaking three and severely damaging another, and leaving glass shards strewn throughout the elegant, embroidered carpet of the embassy's interior. Chief Executive Guo Zhenya condemned the attacks on the consulate and said that "Jindao's freedoms are those that should be enjoyed by everyone" and that the limiting of political discourse in exchange of violence only hindered the city-state's progress as one of freedom.

As of this article's publication, only two of the Mathran culprits have been apprehended by Jindanese police and any other culprits found guilty alongside them are likely to be extradited back to Mathrabumi to face prosecution in their home country. The Jindanese police's announcement of the criminals' extradition to Mathrabumi incited a protest of around 32,000 people in the Mathratown district where the embassy is located, and also where there is a large Mathran minority within the city.

MP WILLIAM ASHTON LAUNCHES 2020 PRESIDENTIAL CAMPAIGN

Image
The rising star's long awaited announcement surprises few in Valeins as he kicks off the 2020 race
Harborough, Westcliff - William Ashton officially launched his 2020 presidential campaign Sunday in his birthplace of Harborough, promising to be a fighter "for real change" in Valeins and stating that it is time to transform Valentirian democracy by "ensuring all of our citizens' voices are heard."

"We are here because the very fabric of our beloved country is being torn asunder by the forces of corruption and petty politics," the National Liberal MP said. "We are here at this moment in time because we must answer a fundamental question. Is this who we are? Is this the nation that we want to live in? So let's answer that question to the world and to each other right here and right now. Valentir: we are better than this."

Ashton enters the 2020 race as one of the frontrunners -- a remarkable turn for the former leader of the National Liberals who, two years ago, was viewed as a protest candidate from the political fringe. Today, Ashton is one of the most popular politicians among Valentirian voters and his policy agenda -- a suite of progressive proposals to reform the electoral system, transition to a "Green economy" and pass campaign finance reform -- has been embraced by many of the country's leading political figures.

The former Westcliff Premier has been the fastest-rising politician in the country since the 2017 general election and his decision to launch his 2020 bid comes at a time when a series of polls have shown Ashton to be a formidable front runner candidate, a far cry from when he was receiving less than 13% of support in some polls just seven months ago.

His recent star power showed through in a flurry of donations after his announcement, with supporters contributing more than £3 million to Ashton's campaign in the four hours following his speech Sunday, his campaign communications adviser Linda Richards tweeted.

Credited with reorganising the National Liberals from a provincial based party into a national political movement, Ashton's leadership saw the party earn 38 seats in Parliament in the 2017 general election. Even more impressive to pundits was the 6 million votes garnered by NLP candidates. The controversial nature of the election, which saw the Progressive Republicans maintain a slim majority with only 29% of the popular vote, legitimised Ashton's campaign for proportional representation and propelled him into political stardom.

Ashton's historic campaign will no doubt face heavy resistance from the well oiled political machines that dominant Valentirian politics. Despite its weakened appearance and poor polling performances the Alliance coalition proved once again it is still a force to reckoned with. The Prime Minister's victory lap over the confirmation of his Supreme Court nomination provided a boost in recent polls and restored confidence in a coalition government that has looked near collapse almost everyday since the 2017 general election. It should also be said that the Valentirian Federation of Labour, which has long criticised Ashton and other VFL defectors, will be out for blood. VFL leader Gaultier Babineaux has maintained a well documented rivalry with Ashton, which has occasionally boiled over to their supporters as well. Considered a potential front runner by pundits, the old mentor could very well go head-to-head with his former student in 2020.

KENNFORD CITY CENTRE EVACUATED DURING "MAJOR INCIDENT", CRISIS RESPONSE TEAM ON SITE

Image
The Federal Crisis Response Team is on the site of the incident.
Kennford, Estmere - Kennford's city centre was evacuated this morning as police dealt with an unconscious individual and a "suspicious package". The area immediately surrounding the city's famed abbey was evacuated as police cordoned off the area to the public. Kennford Metropolitan Police have also issued a shelter in place warning for the rest of the city.

At around midday police said: "We're currently dealing with an on-going incident in Kennford city centre.

A spokesperson for the department said that there is an "ongoing major incident" in Craweford Circus, located across the street from the Kennford Abbey. "Earlier today, officers discovered an unconscious man slumped over a park bench. Upon contact, the officers realized the individual was comatose".

Soon after their discovery, which took place around 9:45 EST, the area was closed to the public, with officers arriving to put up police barricades as they evacuated residencies, businesses, and the abbey.

The department called in support from the Federal Crisis Response Team, to deal with what police have described as "unusual and alarming traces" found on the unconscious man's face. After conducting a search of the area, agents from the FCRT found a "suspicious package" in a nearby trashcan. Police declined to comment on the exact nature of the package found.

He has been taken to an area hospital and is being treated, police have confirmed.

Officers and emergency response personnel from neighboring municipalities have been seen arriving in Kennford to support the city's police in their efforts to respond to the incident.

In a statement released by Reginald Wilton-Smyth, the prime minister said the developments were "cause for national concern" and said his office was "closely monitoring the situation".

The deputy prime minister, interior secretary, and justice secretary were all spotted arriving at the prime minister's residence soon after police in Kennford began responding to the incident.

Police have asked all members of the public to avoid traveling to or around Kennford until the lock down is lifted as the incident has "left members of the public at risk. Both the government and law enforcement have declined to comment on the specific nature of the incident.

Senate President Hospitalized After Campaign Event
written by Alifad Karimi, 09/07/2019

Nurhasan, Kituk - The President of the Senate of Kituk was taken into emergency care after a campaign event during which he was visibly flustered. This comes only four days after he celebrated his 76th birthday with his family and friends.

Senate President al Chamanara visited the town of Nurhasan on Monday to discuss his campaign with the mayor and town folk. After delivering his own remarks successfully and to the audible satisfaction of the audience, the Senate President sat down to listen to the rest of the event. After about twenty minutes, however, he seemed to almost fall off his chair, only hindered by the wall next to him. He continued to sit like this for several minutes until someone from his team intervened and brought the Senate President – who seemed to communicate with his staff – to the outside, where they were met by emergency rescue service (which stood nearby for this event).

While both the Senate administration and his staff declined to make any comments about the health of the Senate President, his office insisted that “dead or alive, he will fight and win the election" that he would continue to run for.

Al Chamanara is currently running against three other candidates, but their chances of winning are very low. No sitting Senate President has ever lost a reelection campaign, much less so a former High Representative, and in all likelihood, they are running to earn his favour for regional elections. It would be the third term for the elder statesman, who was once hailed as a reformer and became the very first (and only) High Representative of the Workers and Peasants Party , although he has since switched to the Traditionalist Party.

High Representative Ervin ir Indolyir asked media and citizens to send their best wishes to the Senate President but stressed that he has heard the Senate President will be fine and that it was only a minor occurrence. Indeed, he should know: This is not the first time in emergency care for the Senate President. On a visit to Euclea as High Representative, the now-Senate President also had to be admitted to emergency care. With him back then was his Foreign Minister, Ervin ir Indolyir.

While any campaign events this week were cancelled, the Senate President is still scheduled to administer the closing session of the Kituki Senate before the one-month break in September. The Senate President's son thanked citizens for their well wishes but asked for privacy.

POLICE PUBLISH INFORMATION ABOUT KENNFORD INCIDENT AS COUNTER-TERRORISM AGENCY JOINS INVESTIGATION

Image
The Justice Secretary said the government was treating the incident "with great alarm".
Kennford, Estmere - New information published by law enforcement has shed light on a major incident that resulted in the evacuation of Kennford's famed city centre. Saturday morning, police began to cordon off parts of the city and placed the rest into lock down after finding an unconscious individual and a "suspicious package". The area immediately surrounding the city's famed abbey was evacuated as police cordoned off the area to the public.

Kennford Metropolitan Police, in coordination with federal law enforcement agencies and the Secretariat for Justice, have released new information. They have confirmed that the individual involved in the incident has died after medical staff at Ormond University Hospital. The man, who police have identified the man as a man of Pardarian origin in his fifties-sixties, is said to have suffered from a chemical attack.

Police are urging those who were at Craweford Circus and Kennford Abbey between 8:45 and 9:45 EST to contact the their offices. In addition to serving as potential witnesses, a spokesperson for Kennford police said the chemical attack "posed a risk to members of the public" and that it was "imperative" to ensure those with potential exposure were examined in hospital.

The authorities have also confirmed that the body of a dog was also discovered at the scene, who died from exposure to the same chemical. "Those who were indirectly exposed could be at risk" the spokesperson said.

However, the Chief Constable of the Kennford police, Elizabeth Warden, said in a press conference that " advice from the Federal Office for Public Health indicates that, based on the evidence to date, currently there doesn't appear to be any immediate risk to the public at large.

"We can confirm that a small number of emergency services personnel, including some police officers and staff, were assessed immediately after the incident.

"I would like to sincerely thank members of the public for their continued assistance and for respecting the cordons which remain in place in and around the Craweford Circus area".

She also confirmed that the police department had requested support from federal agencies, including the Federal Office of Counter-Terrorism, and that they would be joining the investigation.

"In many cases, it is likely the department will have to defer to the expertise of [federal] agencies. If warranted, they will assume jurisdiction over this investigation".

The federal government has also began to comment on the case, with Secretary for Justice Êdouard Aveline-Duquesne stating that his office was treating the incident with "great alarm".

"As facts are made known to us through this investigation, we can be more sure of the nature of this incident. However, what I will state now, and state categorically: if this was a terrorist attack, the Estmerish government will be responding accordingly through all channels available to us".

When asked if the government had seen evidence to incident that this was a terrorist attack, the Justice Secretary declined to comment.

The prime minister is set to post-pone a meeting with Euclean President Alexis Walker, as he plans on visiting Kennford on Wednesday. A statement released by his office echoed Aveline-Duquesne's comments, adding that "appropriate action will come when warranted".

Parts of Kennford's centre city are still cordoned off to members of the public, but many who were previously evacuated have been allowed to return to the neighborhood. The lockdown was also lifted yesterday, but police have used residents to use caution.

Controversy over new three-part Entente War film

Gatôn, Anniane - Acclaimed director Moïse Dior is no stranger to controversy, having been unofficially banned from Gaumont Plaza, the shorthand reference for the Gaullica's vast film industry, from 1996 to 2007 due to his portrayal of women in A Night in Rayenne (1995) and his comments which were perceived as misogynistic. An official apology in 2007, along with the release of the acclaimed Ariane de Nullepart (2008) returned him from his indie hiatus.

Now Dior is at the centre of a controversial row over his epic new three-part film series depicting the Great War mainly from the eyes of the Entente. The films will follow an ensemble cast portraying real, fictional, and fictionalised characters from the 1920s and the rise of Functionalism, to 1936 and the end of the Great War. Dior has confirmed that the film's political arc will follow the careers of Gaullica's Rafael Duclerque, Satucin's Henri Masson, and Marirana's Ottaviano Castello. Its military arc will follow Jean-Charles Corne, a Gaullican officer who served in nearly every theatre and wrote about his experiences, and a fictional story involving Hervé Ouvrard and his forbidden romance with Violetta Vitsina, a Marolev civilian.

Critics have alleged that Dior intends to use the film series to shift the blame for war crimes committed by the Entente to specific figures within those regimes, removing organisational culpability and presenting functionalism as "a non-controversial and politically correct system which was misused by a very select few."

Dior has denied that his films portray functionalism in a positive light, highlighting that the films will show the disastrous effects the war had upon the peoples of the world and that responsibility for the war is clearly shown to be upon functionalist regimes of the Entente. He has stated that for the purposes of the film certain figures are used to represent the war crimes of the functionalist regimes as a whole, but that it does not detract from the wrongs institutionalised by the regimes.

Mariranan film critic Aloisio Belluomini, who was part of a number of critics given an early screening, has criticised Dior for his handling of Marirana's role in the Great War. Belluomini was critical of Dior's A Sotirian State (2013), cited as a spiritual prequel to this new series, which he alleged portrayed the Mariranan dictator Ottaviano Castello in a positive light and failed to present the true horrors of his regime. Belluomini has said that Dior has again failed to present Castello in a historically accurate fashion, instead presenting the 'Duce' as a relatively background figure, pushed by his Gaullican counterparts into the war and having a religious and moral crisis over the war. In reality Belluomini asserts, a view backed by most historians, that Castello was enthused about the prospect of a war and held a great deal of personal responsibility for the Asterian Theatre and the war crimes commited in it.

Belluomini and others have also highlighted that the Gaullican General Guillaime de Learé, portrayed by Albert Deniau, is shown as not being very sympathetic to Duclerque's regime, which is not historically supported, and have been informed by an insider that many war crimes attributed to him during the later stages of the Asterian Front are instead laid upon his predecessor General Dominique Gérin-Lajoie. They allege that General de Learé is misrepresented by Dior as an icon of 'good functionalism'. Historians largely support the claims that General de Learé was conscious of and did little to stop massacres of Grand Alliance prisoners, and had spoken positively of Ottaviano Castello's purges during his time in Mariranan in the 1920s.

Dior has rejected those claims, stating that Belluomini mistook A Sotirian State for a fully historically accurate drama when it was intended to be a biopic shown through the eyes of Castello. He stated that "[the purges and the state-sponsored famine] are rarely touched upon in the film, only in the background and documents signed by Castello, because I found from my research that they were in the background of his world as well." Dior claims that his changes to the character of General de Learé were done for cinematic purposes, to highlight the difference in ability and character between him and General Gérin-Lajoie, though he has stated that their inside knowledge is false and that General de Learé's knowledge of war crimes will be shown.

Dior has also courted controversy from Satucine critics over his portrayal of Henri Masson, the wartime functionalist leader of Satucin. Henri Masson is a controversial figure worldwide and in Satucin, but he regularly comes in the top ten Satucine polls conducted, and his political philosophy and party live on through the Party of Action, headed by his grandson Auguste Masson, also a critic of Dior's portrayal. They allege that Dior portrays Masson as a lackey of Duclerque and of being "fanatical" about the war, when historically he was a critic of Duclerque's regime and the Great War, a stance which saw him removed from power halfway through the war.

Dior has stated that he wants to highlight the growing distance between Masson and Duclerque more slowly than in real life, and to exaggerate their friendship to provide more weight to their eventual clash, and that with this clash comes Masson's distaste for the war.

Regardless of, or perhaps because of, the controversy, Dior's three-part epic about the Great War is predicted to become one of Gaullica's highest-grossing films. Dior is confident that it will not be banned or censored in any countries that might take offence to the Great War being shown through an Entente lense, describing his work as having the potential to become "an international sensation."

The first film, Duclerque Rising, screens 15 December 2019, followed by False Idols in December 2020, and World in Flames in December 2021.
