LIVE CHAT
ZK - 9:01PM Hello, and welcome to The Islander's live feed of the 2020 election. I'm Zigmùnt König, lead editor. Polls will close in one hour, at which we'll legally to able to release our exit poll. Myself and Erika Fôszingbauer will be on this chat during the night, keeping you updated!

EF - 9:35PM Hi everyone, I'm Erika Fôszingbauer. Polls will close in 30 minutes, and the first results will likely come from Biôłi Kòscół and Ambrzëch. According to officials, we're expecting a turnout above 70%, up from 2016's turnout of 67%.

ZK - 10:00PM And as the clock on Eriksztadt Cathedral strikes 10, we can now release our exit poll. Keep in mind this will not reflect the actual results, but an approximate.
Image

ZK - 10:01PM And there we go, SRPO remain in first, but their support is cut in half compared to 2016. The Alliance, at 18%, can realistically overperform and make up the largest group in the Dorada, although that chance is small. Established parties in general have faced a massive beating, with the SRPO and OSL seeing possibly their worst results ever. As assumed, the Ostric Coalition, once a juggernaut of the separatist camp, has little chance to return to the Dorada, with the break-away Nation and Freedom taking most of their former voters.

EF - 10:08PM First results from Biôłi Kòscół and Ambrzëch are coming in. Greens overprefroming exit poll, are one of four parties floating around the de facto 6-7% threshold for representation.

EF - 10:25PM Results from Nowa Łãka, where DA places a surprising first, while Gòłosztrąd marks the first municipality for the Alliance.

ZK - 10:27PM OSL board has called for Adóm Lës' resignation after tonight's defeat. He has not yet responded.

EF - 10:45PM Alliance overperforming in Przëkam-Roztoka, inching closer to overtaking the SRPO. Josef Stegerwald states "this is a good night for Ostry"

ZK - 10:47PM Ostric Coalition "in trouble", Msczisłôw Mencher admits, calls for "unity" with Nation and Freedom

ZK - 11:05PM Wiãcórk and Tónkowò results in, OSL improves in heartlands (taking second place in Tónk.) but still underperforming the exit poll. Only Eriksztadt remains uncounted.

EF - 11:07PM Eriksztadt may make up 20-30% of electorate, this is where the Alliance may see a improvement. Party co-leader Josef Stegerwald was mayor of the town from 1986 to 1994.

ZK - 11:30PM And Eriksztadt is mostly in! The Alliance secures a very small margin above the SRPO, locking the party out of the capital for the first time in its history. Cheers reported at Alliance headquarters. SRPO remains largest group, but by a slim margin.

EF - 11:35PM Elections Werania has confirmed the vote totals, and will release the list of Assembly Members soon.

EF - 11:55PM Elections Werania has released the list: SRPO 4, Alliance 3, OSL 2, NeW 2, DA 1, Greens 1, Union 1 (as NKP), and SdW 1. Eight parties in the 10th Dorada, a record and above what we even predicted in the exit poll.
Image

ZK - 11:59PM And as we end our live feed for the night, Ostry sees itself with new political parties and an uncertain future. Any coalition will require three or more parties, and egos will have to be put aside. Thank you for following us, and good night.

Maljubav bans alcohol in public

MALJUBAV, Minilov — The City of Maljubav is introducing a ban on alcohol in the pedestrian precinct in the centre of the city. The consumption of alcohol in public is being banned between the hours of midnight and 6:00h in the morning.

The City has been sparked to action following a wealth of complaints about noise disturbances, unsanitary conditions, vandalism and theft. Often people who were drunk were involved.

The alcohol ban covers the area between Česma Square and Hlače Square and includes the entire Zahtjev Avenue. It is bounded by the Menta Square, the Zahtjev Avenue and side streets, and Kupacodjeće street and Južnalica street. Anybody caught with alcohol will have to hand in their beverage and faces a 30 ruble fine.

Alcohol consumption will be allowed on pavement cafes that possess a licence and during commercial, festive or sports events authorised or organised by the City.

AFTER CRUCIAL MEETING, EC CHANGES TUNE ON TSABARA WITH LIMITED BACKING FOR THE al'QUTAYNI GOVERNMENT

Image
Weranian and Gaullican foreign ministers Käthe Schickdanze (L) and Sylviane Lambert (R) at a joint press conference.
Kesselbourg, Kesselbourg - The Euclean Community has taken steps towards establishing its official position in relation to Tsabara's ongoing political crisis, with a meeting of foreign ministers resulting in backing for the acting national government. President Alexis Walker summoned EC foreign ministers to Kesselbourg to discuss the situation in Tsabara, which has thus far seen the EC divided. The collapse of Caldish-sponsored peace talks two weeks ago has helped bring the EC to accord as the Tsabaran government faces active threats from religious extremist groups.

Compared to Walker's efforts to reach consensus at the beginning of the new year, talks between foreign ministers this weeks brought a fresh understanding between national governments. The previously agreed-wait-and-see approach to Caldish peace talks has now seen movement from some of the bloc's smaller members, skeptical that EC involvement in the long-standing political crisis would be beneficial. Yet as civil war appears to be a growing possibility, nations such as Azmara and Caldia have backed a Gauillcan proposal to declare official support for the acting government of President Nazim al'Qutayni and provide humanitarian aid.

It will pass through the Euclean bureaucracy this week, requiring the support of the Euclean Council and the Euclean Parliament before it becomes official bloc policy. President Walker said the agreement was a "significant development" and would continue to lead efforts to "maintain stability, prevent sectarian conflict, and avoid humanitarian disaster" in Tsabara.

An effort by the Estmerish government to provide material and logistical aid to the Tsabaran government and its military was defeated. While some states were skeptical of further intervention, Werania opposed the measure due to Tsabara's relationship with the International Forum for Developing States. At a press conference with her Gaullican counterpart, the Weranian foreign minister Käthe Schickdanze hinted her government was weary of pursing such ties with a nation in an economic-bloc dominated by Xiaodong and Zorasan.

"The current arrangement does not suit our interests" she said. However, she did state that there was some flexibility should Tsabara move away from Xiaodong and Zorasan.

At the same press conference, the Gaullican foreign minister stated that it was of "paramount importance that the Euclean Community conducts [support for Tsabara] is an organised and united fashion. An instance such as this is the cornerstone of the reason why we have taken great lengths to implement a ‘Common Foreign and Security Policy.’”

“The EC should support and strengthen the al'Qutayni government through humanitarian aid and the assistance in setting up camps for displaced peoples" Sylviane Lambert, who has overseen the Gaullican government's response to Tsabara, told the press. At last month's emergency meeting of the Euclean Convention, Gaullica indicated it would support further efforts in Tsabara if Caldish peace talks failed to bring about a solution. The Tsabaran Crisis poses a threat to the ruling Purple-Green coalition in Gaullica, where the anti-interventionist Greens differ from the Social Democrats on the issue.

The Estmerish foreign minister, Stephen Mendenhall, said the developments were "significant" and showed the EC was "serious about protecting religious freedom" in Tsabara. Estmere has been involved in a series of spats with Zorasan since the summer and tensions between the two have escalated. The EC has largely been able to remain out of the conflict, but a series of major terrorist attacks in Tsabara and revelations regarding Zorasani attempts to develop a nuclear capacity have resulted in a shift in policy.

Member governments remain largely supportive of international efforts at the Community of Nations to try and avert all-out crisis in Tsabara. However, the slow response of the CN's Security Committee has not only seen the crisis worsen but the desire in Euclean capitals for the bloc to act increase.

Historic day as National Family Protection Act passes into law
Etruria becomes the first country in Euclea to reinstitute bans on terminations.

The National Family Protection Act and the constitutional amendment extending the right to life to “unborn persons” have both officially entered law after the State Council of the Federation voted 221-69 and the supporting constitutional amendment was passed by the state legislatures of Vespasia, Novalia and Carinthia. News of the passing was met with horror and tears among protesters who waiting for the result. The passing of the act marks Etruria as the first Euclean to reinstate a ban on abortion from the moment of conception. Etruria is also the first Euclean country to extend the right to life to “unborn persons.”
Image
Foreign Minister Gianfranco Galizia was present in the State Council when the results were confirmed.

While the act passing the State Council was in little doubt owing to the Tribune Movement holding a two-thirds majority, enough for them to amend the constitution without a referendum, doubts were being raised over the government could see only two of three constituent states ratify the constitutional amendment. To ratify constitutional changes, all three constituent states must ratify the amendment. The government was reportedly concerned that there were not enough Tribune votes in Novalia’s state-senate to ratify the amendment, ultimately, the bill was backed by the governing Workers and Farmers Union, passing 103-47. The amendment passed without hitch in the Carinthian and Vespasian state senates where the Tribune Movement holds majorities.

The were audible cheers by Tribune Movement and several Farmers and Workers Union State Councillors as the result was announced by President of the State Council, Ettore Mantovano. As per tradition, the State Council remained seated as the results from the state-level votes were broadcasted into the chamber live. When Novalia’s ratification was confirmed, the Tribune members rose to their feet in applause and cheers. Notably, several opposition female members were seen crying alongside several male members.

Following the state-level results, Matteo San’Angelo, the Tribune Movement Leader in the State Council addressed the chamber applauding “the bravery and boldness of those who have restored traditional values to Etruria this evening.”

In a triumphant statement to the press, President Francesco Carcaterra said, “tonight is a watershed moment in our nation’s history. Tonight, we have made clear our commitment to traditional family values, to the values that stand as the foundational pillars of our great society.”

“Ever since the Etrurian people overthrew the shackles of absolutism with the Revolution and the first Republic, virtuous governance and tradition have been the lungs of our nation. Tonight, we honour our revolutionary predecessors by once again having Etruria breath virtue and tradition” he said.

The president went on to say that the act would be beneficial to women, saying, “tonight, we free women through by doing the Etrurian thing. As of tonight, all children can be guaranteed a family and a home, with our dramatic overhaul and federalisation of all adoption agencies, we will be lifting the hardy burden of that decision whether to bring a child to term. Tonight, we free women from the consequences of that decision by guaranteeing to them, a loving future of their child.”

Jadranka Karamarko, the leader of the Social Democratic Party, speaking on Orrizonte News said, “this is truly a sad day. My rights as a woman, the rights of my daughter and all women have been stripped away in the pursuit of Tribune virtues and traditions. This act has condemned thousands of women to death, who will naturally, seek out back-street terminations or do them at home.”

The anti-government protests that have gripped Etruria since New Years Day have dissipated over the past week, while a large number of hold-outs remained on the streets to await the result.

Numerous women’s rights and pro-choice groups made clear that they were relying on Novalian state-level politicians to block the constitutional amendment that extends the right to life to unborn persons. Statements and social media activity by Novalian politicians indicated a hesitation to support the amendment. However, when the vote came, it passed and the hopes of the pro-choice movement were dashed.
When news of the act’s passing reached the holdouts, there was no explosion of anger or fury. Instead, hundreds began to return home after a month of protesting.

“There’s nothing we can do now, that’s it. We tried, we failed” Lisa Abate told reporters, with tears in her eyes she said, “we didn’t get the popular support we thought we did. I think this upsets the most.”

Anabella Marconi, the director of the Etrurian Women’s Rights Watch told reporters, “this is truly a shocking moment in modern Euclean history. Etruria is the first country on the continent to rollback women’s rights. Everyone else strives to make women truly equal and free, not here, its all retrograde here.”

Enrico Sabatella, the head of the pro-life, Etrurian Family Association speaking on ARE News said, “this is a truly great day. For all, including women. We’ve finally come to cherish all life as we should, the family will return as the most important thing in Etrurian life. No doubt other movements and countries in Euclea will follow our lead.”

The National Family Protection Act bans abortions at any stage of a pregnancy, but provides for exceptions in cases where a foetus has a medical condition that would cause the foetus to be stillborn or to die shortly following birth, and in cases where a pregnancy would "present serious health risk" to the woman. The law also allows abortions to be performed "upon confirmation from a psychiatrist" that a pregnant woman diagnosed with a "serious mental illness" might otherwise take an action that would lead to her own death or to the death of the foetus. Further exceptions are made for cases of conception through rape or incest. The bill also includes the introduction of criminal charges against medical professionals who conduct abortions, with minimum sentences of 25 years being applied.

The constitutional amendment, which extends the right to life to “unborn persons” has been seen as a double-lock on the act’s durability. By constitutionally amending the extension, any attempt a future repeal of the bill could be considered unconstitutional.

SOUTHERN TABORA DEVASTATED BY HURRICANE ANABELLE

Image
The southern city of Oshabeni has been left in "hellish devastation".
NTENDEKA - Hurricane Anabelle as left “hellish devastation” in its wake, as the government begins the recovery process. Vast swathes of the southern coast have been wiped out by flooding and deadly storm surges, with the southern city of Oshabeni still underwater. The Emergency Response Agency has warned that “responses will be slow due to the complete collapse of infrastructure leading to the coast.” The Ministry of Health is reporting that regional officials have claimed that “hundreds may be dead.”

The devastation unleashed by the hurricane has been described as “hellish” and “apocalyptic” according to statements from regional officials. Vast swathes of the southern coast have been destroyed, with entire villages being swept out to sea, farmland drowned in seawater and a complete collapse of infrastructure.

Storm surges struck every section of the coastline, with the highest being recorded at Oshabeni, measuring 5.1 meters. Surges measuring 3-4m in height were recorded along 300km of the southern coastline.

The hardest hit areas including the coastal city of Oshabeni, the towns of Canzibe, Qandu and Mgazi. Reports from Oshabeni describe streets remaining “rivers” and hundreds of homes being destroyed completely. There are also unconfirmed reports that on of the city’s Emergency Shelters has been flooded and destroyed. The first images from the city show utter destruction, with streets inundated with water and debris.

The entire coast is reportedly without power, with powerlines down across much of the southern coast. The coal-power plant at Canzibe has been knocked out of action from seawater entering its interior. Numerous signal towers have been downed, while the main radio mast at Umzumbe has been brought down, causing radio signals to be sporadic.

Further impeding the government response is reports that Oshabeni’s regional airport has been badly damaged by the storm. Officials are indicating that the air traffic control tower has been gutted, while the airport is without power.

Eyewitnesses, including those form the “Initial Response Task Force” have described large numbers of bodies being found floating in the flooded streets. Hundreds of people have been spotted on top of roofs across Oshabeni and other coastal towns.

The dire situation is limited to just the coastline. Massive flooding has been reported along the Pongola River, with towns and villages coming under water.

Officials in Mbazwana Region have reported that at least three major bridges across the river have collapsed and numerous roads have been washed away.

Regional Chief of Mbazwana, Mbulelo Nkhulu who spoke to TBC by satellite phone said, “Mbazwana has been utterly gutted by this storm. Its far worse than we anticipated, the damage to roads will impede recovery but we have begun work immediately.”

The central government has maintained the state of emergency across the south, with President Dumisani Kumalo convening an emergency cabinet meeting. The president has authorised the mobilisation of 10,000 soldiers to assist in the response and recovery.

Foreign Minister Julius Holomisa has officially requested international support and aid upon the president’s order.

Speaking on TBC he said, “we are officially requesting aid from the international community. Our people are in dire need and we truthfully, lack the means to aid them with the speed and ferocity necessary. The international community be assured that we will conduct the recovery with professionalism and compassion.”

The regional chiefs of Mbazwana, Manzengwenya and Lulwane regions have authorised police to use live ammunition against looters. The decision came in wake of claims that looters had stolen thousands of Denier from a half-destroyed bank in Mdatstane.

The Taborian Navy also confirmed this morning that the bodies of 10 sailors from a large trawler were spotted among floating debris and oil slicks. The Navy identified the men as the crew of the Vukwana, a 100ft long trawler based out of Oshabeni.

President Kumalo is expected to give a statement later today.

Prime Minister Örjan Rehn to Resign Following Heart Attack
Rehn cites "health concerns" as top reason for his leave, encourages ENP to look in Brahe for a replacement.

PM Rehn seen after leaving King's College Hospital a week ago. He declined an interview.

Hammarvik

In a solemn yet moving speech in the Riksdag at 9:00 AM, The Right Honorable Prime Minister Örjan Rehn has resigned from his position as Prime Minister, following a two week stay in Alestrand's King's College Hospital after suffering what has been revealed as a massive heart attack on the 15th of January. Stating this as the primary reason, he further stated the was to follow the advice and counsel of his doctors and retire.

“I made a promise to my constituents, Her Majesty, and to the people of the Kingdom that I would be their humble and stalwart servant, for as long as I am able to. I promised with my heart, and, for that reason I must give it a rest. The road of which I now face, one with needles and scalpels and painfully awkward visits from my in-laws, will have to be made alone, and this would render me incapable of my post here, in Hammarvik."

Rehn was elected ENP's party leader 13 years ago, and has since led the ENP to a 10 year majority in the Riksdag. Before, he was the Minister of Justice for the long running NDP government, where he acted as one of the two required non-coalition government ministers. His legacy started with the trial of members of the Ministry of Justice in 1989 following their willful failure to prosecute then monarch Karl II for human trafficking. Capping off over 40 years of service to the government of Eldmark, the speech received praise and well wishes from both sides of the aisle along with several standing ovations.

Rehn elected to break the solemn moment occasionally with a joke here and there. "I now leave my colleagues with the admittedly difficult task of finding someone to fill my shoes. They're size 50. Good luck." he said.

On the topic of who to replace him, the PM declined to make any official endorsement, though praised his second-in-command, ENP Deputy Leader Tyra Brahe.

"She has guts, and guts is a quality needed more and more by the party. She would do well if chosen." Brahe refused to respond, though would wish him well and "keep him in her prayers."

While Opposition Leader Karl Falk had little good to say about his policies, he also extended his well wishes and said "I am going to miss him."

Zorasan: PM Xirsi meets with Zorasani FM, First Minister, reports 'deepening bilateral cooperation,' announces deal to lease Naval Air Station Qordera to the Zorasani Navy

Posted 4 February 2020

Image
Prime Minister Kulane Xirsi (R) greets Zorasani Foreign Minister Saeed Rasfanjani (L) in Zahedan, a private meeting with Zorasani First Minister Farzad Akbari was also held.

Prime Minister Kulane Xirsi met with both Zorasani Foreign Minister Saeed Rasfanjani and First Minister Farzad Akbari in Zahedan today, announcing the 'deepening [of] bilateral cooperation' on economic affairs, political and cultural ties, and the 'development of a closer military relationship.' Along with announcing Zorasani investments in national infrastructure and industries, PM Xirsi also announced that a long-term lease of Naval Air Station Qordera has been signed.

Prime Minister Xirsi met with Minister Rasfanjani at Shahrdar Palace, posing for photos before having a several hour discussion on economic, military, political, and cultural ties between the two countries, as well as 'issues of common concern.' Following those initial discussions, the Prime Minister also met with Zorasani First Minister Akbari for 'private discussions on how best to improve bilateral cooperation and development to the benefit of both our countries.'

"The history of friendship and bilateral ties between Zorasan and Tusania is long, going back 70 years, they are built on a firm foundation of trust, mutual development and cooperation, and cordiality. The influence these ties have had on both our people are immeasurable, and it is my intention to see that they continue into the future." PM Xirsi said during an impromptu press conference following the meeting. "The agreements being made will enable us to not only continue those relations, but also develop it further to the benefit of both the Tusani and Zorasani people."

In addition to announcing bilateral trade deals, financial commitments, and infrastructure investments, Prime Minister announced that a deal had been struck to lease Naval Air Station Qordera to Zorasan for use by the Zorasani Irfanic Revolutionary Navy for a period of 20-years for an as of yet undisclosed amount of money.

The lease marks the creation of the first Zorasani overseas military base, and would for the first time extend the physical reach of the Union of Zorasani Irfanic Republics' military to Bahia on a permanent basis.

Naval Air Station Qordera, close to the capital Gulaayo, is the one of the largest naval bases in the country, being a primary base for the Tusani Naval Defence Force.

The base is expected to house several Zorasani destroyers and frigates, as well as being capable of housing several squadrons of the Zorasani Irfanic Revolutionary Air Force, significantly increasing the UZIR's hard power in the region. The Office of the Prime Minister also confirmed that discussions were underway over possible expansions to the base in the future, but declined to specify when such discussions would conclude.

The lease comes just months after a naval incident involving Zorasan sparked a crisis in the Mazdan Sea when three Estmerish frigates violated Zorasani territorial waters in July 2019, sailing three miles into Zorasani waters before ultimately withdrawing when confronted by the Zorasani Navy. The crisis saw the resignation of Estmerish Defense Secretary Henry Edwards, the arrest of over two dozen foreign nationals within Zorasan, and a motion to condemn Estmere fail in the Community of Nations.

In photos: Smiles and handshakes in Zahedan
Xirsi-Rasfanjani meeting as it happened

What does this mean for the region?

The lease expands the reach of the UZIR's military into Bahia, a region that has generally been fairly insular both geopolitically and militarily, for the first time. Historically, Zorasan has focused primarily on cementing military ties in Coius, largely via Xiaodong and Ajahadya, pushing for economic and political ties elsewhere on the continent. The deal with Tusania could signal a potential military "pivot" to the region.

The base is relatively close to the Estmerish isles of Kingsport as well as St. Roberts & Fleming, possibly bringing naval vessels of the two nations within close proximity for a second time in a year. It would also give Zorasan direct access to the Coast of Bahia and Vehemens Ocean, as well as giving the nation greater ease of access to the Florian Ocean.

The deal also puts Tusania squarely in the sights of Estmere, who has been highly critical of the Zorasani government, as well as possibly even the Euclean Community. Experts in tune with the foreign policy and military machinations of both actors expect the deal to be received 'poorly.'

The conflict between Zorasan, COMSED, and Estmere, summarized
How the deal could impact the Community of Nations mission in Tusania

What is the relationship between Zorasan and Tusania?

Modern relations between Tusania and Zorasan date back to the year 1950 when, following the conclusion of the Pardarian Civil War, political agents of the Pardarian Revolutionary Resistance Command first gave assistance to the Toosani National Brotherhood in their struggle against Weranian colonization. Their assistance is seen as crucial in aiding the TNB to numerous military victories, including the 1955 Battle of Mogasaso, which ultimately led Werania to negotiate the region's independence that same year.

Zorasan continued to influence the region after independence, with Zorasan monetarily backing the Revolutionary Socialist Union agitating against the rule of then Sultan Khaliid Samaan as well as the protests that ultimately resulted. When the Tusani Revolution saw the Sultan's violent overthrow and death at the hands of RSU agents, Zorasan was quick to recognize the new socialist government.

The government of the Tusani Socialist Republic, known as The Council, or Golaha in the Toosani language, quickly sought out ties with the UZIR, with trade and development between the two countries a frequent occurrence. Relations between the two remained cordial for the entirety of the socialist government's existence, with many influential leaders fleeing to the country in the run up to the Tusani Civil War.

During the civil war the Zorasani government is believed to have covertly supported the Tusani Liberation Army, the civil war-era militia that now governs the country as the Union for National Development, and was one of the first to call for a meeting between the TLA, the Irfanic Union, and the Tusani Youth League. The discussions that resulted ultimately led to the 2009 New Mina Peace Accords and the creation of the Tusani Transitional Authority.

Zorasan also supported the 2007 Community of Nations military intervention to end the civil war, sending their multiple divisions of soldiers and equipment in support of the Tusani Liberation Army and the CoN. Zorasan would ultimately deploy additional soldiers as part of an agreement to train and equip the nascent Tusani Defence Forces, a mission which continues to this day.

Zorasani soldiers also participate in anti-terror training missions with the Tusani Ground Defence Force, aiding the government combat terrorist cells and prevent their funding and operations as well as stopping impending attacks in the wake of the 2014 "Week of Terror," which saw the death of 250 civilians and 12 Community of Nations personnel - including 3 Zorasani Land Force soldiers.

Since the civil war, Zorasan has become a critical supporter of the Tusani government, with the country being one of it's largest economic trade partners. Fraternal ties and friendship societies have also sprung up within both governments, advocating for closer ties between Zahedan and Gulaayo.

ESTMERISH GOVERNMENT THREATENS TO SUSPEND AID TO TUSANIA FOLLOWING ZORASANI BASE AGREEMENT

Image
Mendehall warned of the security threat a Zorasani presence posed to Bahia.
ASHCOMBE - Senior diplomats in the Estmerish government have hinted all development aid to Tusania as the Bahian nation looks to deepen its ties to Zorasan. Foreign Secretary Stephen Mendenhall indicated the government was evaluating its options after Zorasani officials met with the Tusanian prime minister. Growing Zorasani influence in Coius drew the ire of the Estmerish government for some time, but tensions between the two nations have worsened since Reginald Wilton-Smyth became prime minister in June.

Mendenhall said the prospect of a Zorasani military base in Tusania, it’s first in Bahia, was a sign that “the [Zorasani] military regime intends to put Bahia in a choke-hold”.

Following a meeting with Zorasan’s foreign minister, Tusanian prime minister Kulane Xirs announced the two nations would pursue closer economic and cultural relationships. In addition to a series of trade deals and financial agreements made between the two Coian nations, Tusania has agreed to allow Zorasan to establish a military presence.

A naval base located close to the Tusanian capital of Gulaayo will be leased to the Zorasani navy for a period of twenty years. This is the country’s first overseas military installation and will allow it to project power on the other side of the Aurean Strait on a permanent basis.

The installation will also host the Zorasani airforce, giving the nation a significant boost to its hard-power projection in Eastern Coius.

Also located in the region are the two Estmerish overseas territories: Kingsport and St. Roberts and Fleming. Both host sizable military installations, setting the stage for further tensions between Ashcombe and Zahedan,

“This poses a fundamental security threat to any nation that does not wish to submit to Zorasan’s brand of subjugation to Irfanic clerics and and power-hungry generals” Mendenhall told reporters at a press briefing this morning.

He indicated that the government was considering ending over €50 million in development aid to the Tusanian government.

“We are reviewing all of our options, governments that enable and endorse state-sponsored terrorism will not receive the money of hardworking Estmerish taxpayers. That money can be better spent here at home”.

Tusania has been gripped by terrorist insurgency from extremist groups for well over a decade. The country has hosted several Community of Nations peacekeeping missions aimed at restoring and maintaining stability. The agreement with Zorasan has raised concerns in some world capitals about the sustainability of such efforts.

“There are extensive concerns about the role the Zorasani military stands to play outside of internationally sanctioned peacekeeping efforts. Instability caused by the interference of one of the world’s most interventionist regimes in a nation that has been plagued by political violence is not desired” a source within the Estmerish delegation to the Community of Nations Security Committee told the Globe.

The announcement comes as the situation in Tsbara continues to worsen, with no prospect for peace and potential for civil war. It is likely Estmere will clash with Zorasan and its ROSPO allies over the crisis, as extremist religious groups have begun to clash with the acting government.

Over the weekend, the Euclean Community agreed to offer its diplomatic support to the interim government of Nazim al-Qutayni. Foreign ministers from throughout the bloc reached a consensus after months of deadlock. The collapse of Caldish-sponsored peace talks moved some members towards backing further action, with the bloc agreeing to provide humanitarian aid to al-Qutayni’s government.

"Decimation" - Government forces expelled from Beit Shajaf as crisis escalates

Image
Government troops came under intense coordinated attack in Beit Shajaf.
Adunis, Adunis Province - TPressure on the government to withdraw federal forces from the eastern provinces has reached fever pitch over the past week, with the complete “decimation” of federal forces in the eastern city of Beit Shajaf being confirmed by the Ministry of Defence this morning. The pressure mounted as the government was forced to concede that over the past 19 days, over 560 soldiers have been killed. While today, Sheik Faizan Salah formally established the so-called Supreme Political and Resistance Committee to organise the “resistance and liberation of Badawiyans in Tsabara.”

News that federal forces have been routed and “decimated” in Beit Shajaf has led to widespread calls from various circles, including the Party for Irfanic Democracy and the Atudite People’s Party, to withdraw all government forces east of Bedjene Province.

According to a detailed government statement, Federal Armed Forces (FAF) units were attacked across the eastern city simultaneously, by heavy gunfire, rocket propelled grenades and armoured vehicles. Sources inside the MoD reported before the statement, that FAF units had come under intense attack by both armed militia and units of Ain Djasser’s Provincial Guards.

On FAF unit was destroyed when its patrol was ambushed in the densely built Sheik Khan quarter of the city. At least 20 soldiers were killed in this instance. As the FAF began to withdraw its forces out of the hostile provincial capital, the attacks intensified. The MoD statement also explained that 18 soldiers were killed when their retreating column was struck by a suicide truck bomb.

The MoD stated that routes of evacuation out of the city centre were covered by hostile forces, forcing the FAF to conduct a fighting withdrawal. The MoD also stated that the hostiles were using well versed urban-guerrilla tactics against the mechanised forces of the FAF. The FAF also came under attack through the use of guided anti-tank missiles and improvised-explosive devices.

A FAF AH-10 helicopter gunship sent to assist the beleaguered forces was shot down by shoulder launched surface-to-air missiles. The two crew members were killed in the crash according to the MoD statement.

So sustained was the attack on FAF units inside Beit Shajaf, that the FAF deployed aircraft to bomb buildings used by hostile forces. The MoD reported that the air force conducted 22 sorties against the city, before being forced to pull aircraft back after two Gaullican built M.2000 aircraft was damaged by surface-to-air missiles.

After ten hours, the FAF had completely withdrawn from Ain Djasser’s provincial capital. Even in the rural suburbs, its units came under repeated hit-and-run attacks by armed militias. A retreating column lost two tanks to anti-tank missiles and 30 soldiers were killed or injured when their convoy was attacked by a Provincial Guard tank unit.

The MoD’s report stated that during today’s fighting in Beit Shajaf, 174 soldiers were killed and a further 250 were injured. The MoD’s report also detailed that the hostile forces were collection of armed militias, supported directly by the Ain Djasser Provincial Guard. The report also described that the ADPG had deployed short-range and medium-range surface-to-air missile systems, such systems reported to have been lost when the Ain Tahrir air defence base was captured by armed militants two days ago.

Within hours of the government withdrawal, social media and local source reports indicated that many of the armed militias who attacked the FAF, began massacring Atudite citizens of the city. Beit Shajaf also serves as a hub for oil workers and engineers for the nearby Khalifa oil field. Social media accounts shared images and videos and masked men entering the homes of Atudite workers and seemingly shooting. These reports have yet to be verified.

Elsewhere in the East, FAF units came under sustained attack in the provinces of Hassani Abdelkrim, Juraynah, Qadessiya, Trifaoui and the southwestern parts of Bedjene provinces. However, the MoD report did not claim any of these attacks included units from Provincial Guards.

The small helicopter base of the 2nd Air Cavalry Brigade near Sadjahad in Qadessiya province was attacked by over 200 armed militants. 4 helicopters were destroyed, and 6 government personnel were killed in the attack, but the garrison confirmed that over 60 attackers were killed.

39 soldiers were killed overall in separate incidents in the restive provinces, most of which involved gun or grenade attacks on checkpoints and hit-and-run attacks on FAF patrols. At least 150 hostiles were also killed in the east according to the MoD report.

In a statement to reporters, senior FAF general, Moshe Dayan said, “it is now without question that the federal government and its security forces are facing a full-blown armed insurrection in the east. The events of the past two days have paid proof to this fact.”

When asked if Beit Shajaf was lost to militants, General Dayan confirmed that was the case, “it is with deep regret that it must be confirmed, that Beit Shajaf is no longer under government control. Beit Shajaf currently does not stand alone, there are expanding areas in the east that are outside government control.”

Gen. Dayan repeated the MoD’s report that Provincial Guards were fighting alongside or indirectly supported armed militia.

“Since January 20th, we have seen numerous incidents involving Provincial Guard units across several eastern provinces, both directly and indirectly. If these incidents continue, the FAF will be forced to designate all Provincial Guard units in every restive province as possible hostiles” he said.

The general refused to answer questions on the matter of desertions and defections by Badawiyan units of the FAF. When asked repeated by a Yeruham Times reporter whether the FAF had seen over 25,000 active and reservist troops defect, he refused to answer, saying, “the situation regarding these matters are under investigation.”

The Yeruham Times published an article yesterday, detailing that since the Mazar attacks on January 17th, up between 25,000 to 35,000 active and reserve troops had defected to numerous militias in the east. The same article described unconfirmed reports that several high-ranking officers had defected, including Major General Zahran al-Amari, the head of the Tsabaran Eastern Command zone. If confirmed, Al-Amari would be the highest-ranking figure to defect.

In keeping with the escalating conflict, Sheik Faizan Salah has formally coalesced leaders and movements opposing the federal government in the east, into the Supreme Political and Resistance Committee.

In a video posted online, the Sheik was seen greeting several eastern provincial governors, numerous provincial-level law makers and uniformed men. In the video he said, “by uniting and forming ourselves into a competent and revolutionary group, we can unite the East and mobilise it against the Atudite extremist and their protectors in Adunis. We can together, reclaim the tomb of the Prophet and build a new Tsabara that works in the name of justice, equality and order.”

A government spokesman denounced the Sheik’s latest move as “further burying the chance for a peaceful solution to this crisis.”

ZORASAN TO PROVIDE TUSANIA $110M IN AID AFTER ESTMERE RAGES
Image

SHANBEH 19. BAHMAN 1398 | 08 FEBRUARY 2020 | By Hamid Sattarifar | @Eftekar.zr

The government has authorised a $110 million aid package for Tusania proposed by the Parastar Hamdani Foundation, the Zorasani Irfanic Revolutionary Army’s largest charitable organisation. Among the proposals is significant money for the investment into telecommunications, schooling programs and village-based battery powered generators. The authorised package follows a new military basing agreement, the first for Zorasan in its history. The package was proposed in response to Estmere’s callous withdrawal of its £50 million aid program.
Image
File photo. Head of the PHF, Colonel al-Kuzbari praised
the program as "beneficial to millions."

As the rivalry between Zorasan and Estmere reaches into Bahia, Tusania received a boost after the government authorised the $110m aid proposal by the PHF. Far exceeding what Estmere ruthlessly withdrew out of opposition to Tusania’s brave and logical offering of a permanent military presence to the Union. The new aid program will benefit the poorest and most isolated communities in Tusania, many of which have fallen victim to the violent barbarism of extremists.

Speaking to reporters following his meeting with the Foreign Ministry, Director of the Parastar Hamdani Foundation, Colonel Khalifa al-Kuzbari said, “I have just come from a very good meeting with Foreign Ministry officials who have authorised the foundations proposal for a new and highly beneficial aid program to Tusania. This new program will aid millions isolated by geography and destitution and held raise them up to unleash their potential.”

A foreign ministry statement issued online read, “Zorasan does not use aid, that supports and protects the most vulnerable and the dispossessed as a bargaining chip. The futures of the poorest in this world, often of those of countries once violated and abused by colonial powers in the past, cannot be thrown away in petty fits of pique. Zorasan stands with Tusania and will do what it can to ensure that Tusania unleashes its full potential.”

Estmere’s withdrawal of its aid follows the agreement signed on Tuesday in which Zorasan agreed to significantly increase its bilateral trade with Tusania, as well as widen cultural, political and educational ties. Among the individual clauses was a promise by Zorasan to invest an estimated $1.5 billion into Tusani rail and road links from the coast to the interior, as well as numerous joint projects to develop Tusani mines and manufacturing. The deal also saw a re-commitment by Zorasan to sell Tusania oil and natural gas at below market rates, to protect the Bahian country from the rising energy prices.

However, the greatest boon for Zorasan was the offering of a naval-air station at Qordera. The Ministry of National Defence has since detailed that it has begin preparations for the deployment of ten fighter aircraft and six attack aircraft. This new air group will provide direct air support for the Tusani Defence Force against extremist terrorist groups. The MoND also announced that a destroyer and two frigates will be deployed to the new base over the coming weeks.

The MoND also announced that 300 extra troops will be sent to Tusania to assist in the training and development of the TDF.

Senior air force commander and lawmaker, General Yadollah Ali Shirani told UCTV, “this new facility has been granted to us for twenty years, I can confirm that work will begin immediately to modernise its infrastructure, including new and longer runways. We hope that by Summer, we will have deployed an entire fighter squadron and two bomber squadrons to the facility. This will ensure that our military assistance to Tusania can be significantly increased.”

Colonel Vahid Namdar MP, who only today was appointed chairman of the Joint-Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Affairs also said on UCTV, “this is a great achievement by the Zorasani nation. For the first time, we have an extraterritorial military facility. From there, I imagine our brave fighting men will ride shoulder to shoulder into battle against extremism and terrorism with our Tusani friends and allies.”

Imagua is off to a rough start this Invictus Games, as Brad Dambrauskas and Tyra Dunleavy placed eleventh and twentieth in the first heat of the singles event.

Brad Dambrauskas' time was at 47.25 seconds, just 0.4 seconds behind Senrian TBD, placing him in eleventh place, while Tyra Dunleavy's time was at 52.094 seconds, or 0.637 seconds behind Werania's TBD, securing her twentieth place, and just 0.206 seconds from the elimination threshold.

Dambrauskas said that "we had been practicing for months, so to perform this poorly is a bit of a disappointment. However, I am confident that next heat, we will be able to secure a victory in the luge."

Dunleavy echoed these sentiments, saying that "While I am disappointed by my results in the first heat, I have high hopes that we Imaguans will progress through the luge, and even if we don't, I am confident that our biathletes will win in the Invictus Games."

Democratic Labour Party leader Douglas Egnell said that "while these results may be a bit discouraging for Imaguans, I must reassure you that the biathletes are practicing hard, and I guarantee that they will at least come home with a bronze. I also have high confidence in Mr. Dambrauskas and Miss Dunleavy, and that they will recover next heat."

Rain and flooding across Nasjeveru

Rain and flooding across Nasjeveru

JEZEROGRAD, Minilov — The northern city of Jezerograd (Nasjeveru) is experiencing flooding after the River Mena burst its banks at several locations across the city. Heavy rainfall in recent days means that many Minilovan rivers are at their highest level in quite some time. In Uplaninama the River Dmitr is giving cause for concern. The Dmitr is at its highest level in a decade.

Heavy rain hampered drivers on roads up and down the country. There were long tailbacks on the motorways and numerous accidents. Flooding on the A2 autocesta and on the A1 triggered road accidents and congestion. One person was injured on the A2, while there was only material damage at Sjevernata. The Smočiti road tunnel in Maljubav needed to be closed for a while to allow the fire service to pump out excess water.

The fire services report that in several locations 20 litres of rainfall were recorded per square metre. Last night the service received over 120 calls about the flooding. In most cases, the fire service was required to pump water out of flooded cellars.

Chervolesia-Djedet announces deal to lease military base as Zorasan and Tusania strengthen ties

Co-Commissar Josyp Zakharchenko (R) met with Djedi Foreign Minister Girgis Qustantinos (L) on Friday.

Mina, Djedet — Co-People’s Commissar of Foreign Affairs Josyp Zakharchenko met with his Djedi counterpart, Foreign Minister Girgis Qustantinos, on Friday. The foreign visit is Chervolesia’s first to the country since 2013.

The topics that were scheduled to be discussed were reaffirming Chervolesian financial and technological support for the Bahian Council Republic, and discussing “new and emerging threats to Djedi sovereignty and AIS interests in the region.”

Co-People’s Commissar Zakharchenko arrived in Mina on Thursday, where he was greeted with full fanfare. On Friday, he met with Foreign Minister Qustantinos and Djedi General Secretary and President Tawadros Makarios for several hours. Following the meetings, it was made public that a deal had been reached between the two allies for the leasing of the Deir Anba Bishoy Airbase to Chervolesia for the next five years until 2020.

The Deir Anba Bishoy Airbase, located outside of the Djedi capital of Mina, is the largest airbase within the country of Djedet and is the flagship base for the Djedi Air Force. The lease makes Deir Anba Bishoy the first major Chervolesian overseas base located outside of core AIS members Swetania and Dezevau.

In addition to the lease, Chervolesia has pledged to continue its technology sharing and financial aid programme. In 2019, this amount totalled €89.10 billion, and is expected to increase by 33% for the 2020 fiscal year. Among the items covered under the programme include modernisation programmes for Djedi infrastructure and a 5-year agreement for the training of Djedi state police and officers of the Djedi Armed Forces by the People’s Liberation Army.

“Today marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation and friendship with the Bahian Council Republic,” Co-Commissar Zarkharchenko told the media in a joint press conference with Qustantinos.

“Our commitment to further support our revolutionary brothers and sisters in Djedet is paramount to the continued stability of Bahia. Djedet’s admission into the [AIS] was just one of several steps that have lent itself to the prosperity and stability of Djedet. The talks that have taken place here today will further build upon this foundation to safeguard a future where Bahia is free from the neo-imperialist and predatory [ROSPO] and [COMSED].”

The lease agreement and accompanying talks comes days after Tusania and the so-called “Union of Zorasani Irfanic Republics” announced they had reached an agreement for the former to lease a naval base to the so-called “UZIR.” The agreement, which undoubtedly served as the catalyst for the talks between Chervolesia and the Bahian Council Republic, gives the so-called “Union of Zorasani Irfanic Republics” unprecedented maritime projection capabilities.

So far, only Estmere has publicly responded to the Tusania lease deal; continuing further silence on Zorasani Imperialism by the greater “liberal” world.

Government organises 'tactical withdrawal' from much of the east, military confirms.

Image
Acting President Nazim al'Qutayni met with FAF leaders at a command centre in western Bedjene.
Adunis, Adunis Province - With government forces withdrawing from the areas around Beit Shajaf after immense resistance in the area, the Ministry of Defence has confirmed that the plans for a "tactical withdrawal" have been put into place. For over twenty days have Federal Forces fought against insurgents, with the Ministry confirming that over 1,500 have died. However, with mounting pressure and aggression, the original forces that have been facing defections and mutinies has been stretched thing.

A bipartisan call within the coalition government, largely echoed by the members of the Party for Irfanic Democracy and Atudite People's Party. One unnamed minister said that "the country is teetering towards civil war, we cannot occupy these territories -- not until we have the strength and organisation to actively plan."

Another said, in reference to the 'dire times', that the government had a duty to "bring the troops to safety."

Acting-President Nazim al'Qutayni set out to meet with generals at a base in western Bedjene, where they spent a large portion of the weekend. Whilst the Federalist is not privy to the in-depth discussions that took place, it was confirmed that the government would be withdrawing from provinces "east of Aïn Djasser." This would result in government forces withdrawing from Aïn Djasser, Juraynah, Hassani Abdelkrim and Qadessiyya. These four provinces were directly attacked during the 'Mazan Attacks' earlier last month and thus the resentment and insurrection there against a government they view as complacent has been ongoing.

Many have speculated that this is a dangerous move, particularly leaving the hotly contested 'Devil's Teeth' between Tsabara and the UZIR unguarded. However, the President has confirmed that the result was what was "in the interests of the Tsabaran state, its people and its soldiers."

Already however the MoD has began mobilising the national guards of the 'loyal provinces', particularly those on the western coast. Aryeh Kahlon, who's APP is an integral part of the Government of National Unity, has also called upon the national guards of his 'base of loyalty', south western Tsabara, to rally behind the federal government. Tensions between the Atudites and the Federal government have also been quite high, especially since after the Yeruham attacks, but Kahlon's support is integral in the functionality of the government.

In the south and north of the country, ethnic demonstrations in both territory administered by the government and that which is currently occupied by Sheik Salah have brought concerns on both sides. The Öroqic majority of Trifaoui have branded both the government and the insurrectionists as illegitimate and rallies have begun to be held across its urban centres, such as Bayadha, calling for secession. Similar calls amongst the Suhalan community in the north have not had much traction, largely attributed to the lower concentration of their people.

The increase in tensions have been attributed to 'conspiracies from Zahedan' by the government, especially as their relationship deteriorates. Aslan Ocalan, the acting-Premier, visited Zahedan at the beginning of this month and despite high hopes for a united front the meeting was left without as much as a spoken agreement. It is expected that Adunis will cease its pivot towards the south and has instead opened its relationships with the Euclean Community. This breaks a policy set in virtual stone by al'Qutayni's predecessor, who regarded Euclea as a whole an enemy of Coian progress.

Yet with Tsabara's leaving of ROSPO and condemning the IFDS as 'Zorasani imperialism', it seems to signal the end of Tsabaran-Zorasani allegiance. The President commented that the killing of a 'senator', regardless of his affiliations, on Tsabaran soil was 'inexcusable.'

TSWI calls for 'general strike' across Tsabara as east-and-west prepare for conflict.

TSWI's new elected leader, Qadir Jabbar, demands for the 'people to halt the madness' by way of a general strike.

Qadir Jabbar, head of the Tsabaran Section of the Workers' International,
also known as the 'Popular Front'

Lazrou, Aïn Yagout Province — The Tsabaran Section of the Workers' International ruled Tsabara from 1948, seizing power against the Estmerish owned minority-ruled state, until 1989 where the repercussions of Zorasani invasion of Irvadistan collapsed the state and paved the way for the 'Transtsabaran Federation.'

The TSWI, also known as the 'Popular Front', has been relegated to a position of opposition since 1989. Whilst originally the largest party in opposition against numerous unity governments, its position of power steadily declined under successive leaders unable to capitulate on the historic successes it achieved -- nor fight against the reforms of its policies of state atheism and the formation of the 'Tsabaran identity.'

At the beginning of the year the TSWI underwent a rapid electoral process based on the deteriorating situation within Tsabara. Running unopposed Qadir Jabbar, a dentist turned to union-boss has championed the rebirth of the TSWI under a "pan-Tsabaran movement" focused on "social and economic justice". He was a strong critique of the Tughluq and Aboud governments, whilst reserving criticism for al'Qutayni. However, today, following the confirmation of the 'withdrawal from the east', Jabbar has called for "something to be done" from one of the few -- openly -- remaining strongholds of the TSWI, the city of Lazrou.

To a sizeable crowd that the TSWI claims to be within the high tens of thousands, Jabbar delivered what is being called by some as the 'defining moment of the rebirth of the Tsabaran left-wing.'

"Before us the situation in our country falls to pieces. An unelected government in Adunis imposes martial law across the nation and across the east, Zorasani-backed religious fundamentalists indiscriminately rape, torture and kill the populace of anyone who does not look like them. Yet whilst we should fear and weep for the innocents killed, we have to remember that these people undergoing these killings were once like you and I. People like you and I, the working poor, have been ignored by the political elite since the fall of 'Communist Tsabara' in 1989. The policies that aimed to alleviate poverty and foster a united peoples, the Tsabaran people, reversed in the name of respecting religious traditions and divides that have done nothing but fragment sectarianism and terrorism across our nation."

"Yet now these opiates of the masses collide on a path to bring about the death of a Federation once formed on principles of equality of the sexes, of the races, of the people. Because when religion is given to a radical it becomes a weapon of the class system to divide the people into 'us' and 'them'. Whilst the government of national unity has aimed to rectify this problem, it is too little too late. Our Federation is bursting at the seams, no matter what Adunis, Salah or the Federalist tells us."

"We should be sad for the failing of the Tsabaran project, the dreams of socialists and thinkers and fighters for justice long before many of us were born. But we must also notice that this dissatisfaction brings about with it a hope for real, palpable change. The religious fundamentalists are willing to fight to institute a regime that they believe to be right, so we shall do the same with a system that we know to be right. To be fair. To be just. To be free and equal. We are at the precipice of the beginning of a Second Red September, a Second Tsabaran Revolution! We call for a strike, to bring about the warmongers to their knees!"

» Swetanian embassy officer found dead in a hotel in Guanabara
» The corpse was found by a maid this morning and the investigation is already ongoing

The Guanabara Grand Hotel, where the incident
happened.
GUANABARA - Today, the Civil Guard of Guanabara was called to the Guanabara Grand Hotel this morning after a hotel’s maid discovered the corpse of a young woman while going to check and clear her room approximately at 10 o’clock. According to the maid, the guest was found fallen in the floor already without any vital signs, being apparently seated down during her death’s time. No suspected noise in her room was heard by neighbouring guests as well as no signs of violence were found in her body, which discards the possibility of a murder.

Further investigation concluded that the woman is, in fact, Iljana Orinska, 32 years old, who worked as the personal assistant of Detlef Gloede, the current ambassador of Swetania in Belmonte. Orinska, who also was the daughter of two diplomats, graduated from international relations at the University of Swetapolis and almost instantly joined the diplomatic corps, working in consulates until consequently becoming Gloede’s personal assistant five years ago.

The death of an international diplomatic agent under mysterious circumstances left the Secretary of Foreign Affairs concerned, which released this afternoon a letter expressing its condolences of Orinska’s death to Swetanian officials as well as announced that Belmontese police forces are ready to resolve the case, while the administration of the Grand Hotel declared that the floor where the death happened will stay closed and the guests present there will be sent to other vacant rooms until the end of the investigation. In the 17th Metropolitan Civil Guard Station of Guanabara, commissioner Paulo Câmara said that the investigation will continue secretly and that people will be called to testify for a better comprehension of the case.

Until now, the Swetanian embassy decided to not answer the press, however, it’s possible that a letter will be released tomorrow. Other information about the case will be reported under the course of the week.

AS ZORASANI INFLUENCE SPREADS, ASHCOMBE LOOKS FOR WAYS TO COUNTER

Image
Treasury Secretary Geraint d'Auvergne also attended talks with Tsabaran President Nazim al'Qutayni
MONTECARA - The Estmerish government has taken new steps to counter Zorasan’s growing influence in Badawiya and Bahia. Following a meeting between prime minister Reginald Wilton-Smyth and Nazim al'Qutayni, the acting Tsabaran president, the Estmerish government has announced its growing ties to the Badawiyan nation.

The two leaders met for over an hour in Montecara this weekend, discussing the worsening situation in Tsabara. The meeting comes at a time when the interim national government is facing growing dissent among its states. Following clashes with rebel groups and defecting soldiers, the Tsabaran government has ordered a tactical withdrawal from its Irfanic-majority eastern provinces.

In their meeting, it is understood that Wilton-Smyth raised growing concerns about the stability of al’Qutayni’s government. The prime minister declared his personal support for the acting president, calling him Tsabara’s “last hope” to save its democratic institutions.

He is also understood to have brought up growing sectarianism, warning al’Qutayni of the threats Zorasan poses to religious freedom.

The two leaders held a brief press conference after their meeting where they pledged to continue dialogue.

“This is an important moment for the future of [Tsabara]” al’Qutayni said of their meeting before thanking Wilton-Smyth for backing Tsabara within the Euclean Community.

“We are appreciate of Estmerish support for our efforts to uphold our democracy”.

Last week, the Euclean Community announced its diplomatic backing for al’Qutayni’s unity government. It has faced increasing challenges in the face of sectarian strife and violence, with a series of deadly terrorist attacks rocking the nation.

The EC will provide al’Qutayni’s government with diplomatic support and humanitarian aid, but the prime minister indicated Estmere will go further.

“[The Estmerish government] will ensure that Tsabara has the ability to uphold its sovereignty and defend religious freedom in the face of the Zorasani dictatorship. Their clerics and generals will not be able to push Adunis aside” the prime minister told reporters.

“We will be reviewing different forms of material aid in the coming days”.

Following the Tsabaran government’s decision to distance itself from Zorasan and its allies, Estmere has stepped up in their place. Tsabara has taken steps to withdraw from ROSPO and the International Forum for Developing States, two organizations in which Zorasan has significant influence.
Sources within the government indicate it is likely that an agreement will be signed between Estmere and Tsabara to provide different forms of material aid to the national government, including arms shipments. Estmerish officers may also be sent to Tsabara and embedded within military units. Some may also assist the Tsabaran government in training new recruits.

Separately, the Foreign Secretariat has also announced it will be ending all developmental aid currently distributed to the Tusanian government. The move comes in response to an agreement signed between Tusania and Zorasan that will allow the latter to maintain its first overseas military base. It gives Zorasan a permanent presence beyond the Aurean Straits and on the Vehemens Ocean.

Estmere currently provides over €50 million in developmental aid to the Tusaniian government, all of which will be immediately suspended. Foreign Secretary Stephen Mendenhall hinted the bulk of the money is likely to be transferred to Garambura.

The foreign secretary praised the Garamburan government for denouncing Zorasan’s new presence in Bahia, saying Garamburan president was a “powerful advocate for democracy in Bahia”.

Zorasan’s new military base has brought renewed tensions to what has proven to be one of the world’s most volatile regions. In response to the Tusanian-Zorasani agreement, Chervolesia announced it had reached its own agreement with the government of Djedet to establish its own base in the region.

Increased militarization in Bahia poses a threat to the region’s stability, something that has increased since the Tusanian Civil War mostly came to an end in 2009. Renewed tensions in Bahia between ROSPO and other alliances could have disastrous repercussions for the region and beyond.

The decision to suspend aid to Tusania has not come without criticism. On Twitter, the nation’s foreign minister, Shirye Muxudiin, voiced frustrations with the Estmerish position, saying it was acting in its right as a “sovereign, independent” state.

He also denounced criticism from nations in Bahia, accusing them of abandoning their anti-imperialist credentials.

The Tusanian government has yet to comment on the suspension of developmental aid, with a spokesman for the nation’s embassy in Ashcombe declining to offer a statement when contacted by the Herald.

However, the decision has garnered domestic criticism. Democratic Labour Party leader Robert Spencers called the move “callous” and against Estmere’s own interests, arguing it did little but push Tusania closer to Zorasan.
“We can already see Zorasan promising Tusania a sizable aid package of its own, the threat of suspension was enough to create an opening for Zorasani influence to grow further” Roberts said this afternoon.

He was rebuked by the treasury secretary, Geraint d'Auvergne, who argued it was up to the government’s discretion, saying it was “within reason”.

“This decision is no one to make but the government’s, who is allowed to determine where the money of our hard-working citizens is going. Today, we stood up in defense of Estmerish values and religious freedom” d’Auvergne said in response to Robert’s criticism.

The treasury secretary also seemingly questioned the opposition leader’s loyalties, stating that it was “rather odd” Roberts took issue with the government’s decision.

“One would think [Roberts] would not want taxpayer money going to governments that enable state-sponsored terrorism, and it makes you think whose interests he is looking out for”.

A spokeswoman for the DLP leader said d’Auvergne’s comments were “outrageous” and demanded an apology, but one has not come.

Djedet finalizes deal with Chervolesia, denounces Zorasan
Image
MINA, Lower Faras - Foreign Minister Girgis Qustantinos denounced Zorasan's actions in Tsabara and Tusinia on Sunday after a meeting with Chervolesian Co-Commissar of Foreign Affairs Josyp Zakharchenko to sign a deal to lease the Deir Anba Bishoy Base and renew Chervolesian military and financial aid.

"Following the tireless efforts of a committee representing our Republic that discussed the terms of the treaty with delegates from Chervolesia, the Bahian Council Republic of Djedet has agreed to lease the Deir Anba Bishoy Base to our revolutionary comrades in Chervolesia in the interest of promoting peace and security in the region. Chervolesia has also agreed to continue its generous foreign aid program. We are grateful for the aid and assistance our Asterian allies have given us over the years. We are committed to upholding the principles of solidarity and self-determination through international cooperation and hope that this treaty will strengthen the ties between our nations and allow us to stand with our allies to defend the sovereignty of Bahia and Badawiya against Zorasani aggression," Qustantinos said during a press conference with his Chervolesian counterpart.

Located 40 km. from Mina, the base at Deir Anba Bishoy is the largest in the Lower Faras Region and holds a quarter of all Air Force personnel. The base was built by the Gaullicans during the Great War and has been leased to Estmere, the United Bahian Republic, and Pardaran in the past. Though Djedet and Chervolesia have had close ties since the 1960s (barring the Saleh Presidency), the lease and renewal of aid agreements mean that Chervolesia will have a serious military presence in the region for the first time, with Deir Anba Bishoy being its first major overseas base in Bahia.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Chervolesia has also agreed to renew its foreign aid agreements. The funding for these agreements, calculated at around €89.10 billion in 2019, is predicted to rise by 33% in 2020. The aid agreements include funding for programs aimed at upgrading Djedet's infrastructure, technology transfer agreements, and the training of State Police and officers of the Armed Forces by the People's Liberation Army.

When asked about recent regional developments, Qustantinos said "We strongly condemn Zorasani involvement in Tsabara. Tusania's agreement to lease a naval base to Zorasan sets a bad precedent and we call on our Bahian brothers to reject the terror and instability that foreign involvement have brought to the region."

“Today marks the beginning of a new era of cooperation and friendship with the Bahian Council Republic. Our commitment to further support our revolutionary brothers and sisters in Djedet is paramount to the continued stability of Bahia. Djedet’s admission into the AIS was just one of several steps that have lent itself to the prosperity and stability of Djedet. The talks that have taken place here today will further build upon this foundation to safeguard a future where Bahia is free from the neo-imperialist and predatory ROSPO and COMSED,” Zarkharchenko said during the press conference.

TYRA BRAHE TO BECOME PM, TOPPING MODERATE OPPOSITION
Brahe promises to "clean house" in Government, citing several in-party criticisms of the more moderate Rehn Administration.
ERIK ANDERSSON

Image
Brahe, after topping the ENP Leadership Election soundly, topping Moller and Mancini with a sound majority of 59% to their 23% and 18%, respectively

Hammarvik

After Former PM Rehn's resignation, an emergency election was scheduled for this morning, pitting Deputy PM Tyra Brahe against moderate Foreign Relations Minister Nils Moller and even more moderate Energy Minister William Mancini. Their opposition to Brahe was inconsequential, as the now current PM took the office with 59% of the Riksdag's dominant party. The vote exceeded expectations as it was thought that no one candidate would breach the majority needed, triggering a runoff that was never to be to begin with.

After hearing the news, Ms. Brahe was ecstatic, making an uncharacteristically clumsy yet energetic speech on the spot at her viewing party stage. "I have just been informed I am to be PM. Is this a typo?" After about a minute of cheers, the crowd made up of her most faithful staffers and supporters would silence, seemingly on cue, to Brahe's outstretched hand.

"Before us is a monumental task, as a party and as a people. This nation is one that has known sorrows, scarred and riven by the plowshare of war, pillowed with the graves of the Fallen before us, who have sacrificed their lives to see Eldmark shine. Though now it is time to revive ourselves. We cannot rest in complacency, we cannot settle for "good enough," we must strive to empower ourselves, not just for those who fell before us, but for those who will rise after us. We as a nation will strive evermore to walk the path of righteousness, to stand everready to defend our interests, our uniquely Eldmarsk interests, and we will rise evershining." Her speech, peppered with applause and chants, seemingly signaled a new age for the ENP as well as the country.

Brahe was also direct in her ambitions regarding the Government, alluding to a potential staff purge.

"We will exhaust any and all options necessary to ensure we prioritise the nation in our decisions. We will be wholly devoted to this vision, and we will let no one stop us, no matter who they may be."

Brahe furthermore began to label her grievances with the Rehn Administration, which came as a shock to many, especially so soon after his retirement. "I will not sugar coat it, we cannot let others choose for us the path we take. No more clear an example was with the seizure of the Pårla. Was that right? Was that "to be expected?" When was the last time before an Eldmarsk vessel was inspected against our will? Not any instance I can remember. No, this will not happen again." She didn't go into specifics on what if any reprisal the Eldmarsk government would consider.

Reactions to this has been varied depending on who you ask. Polling suggests that most ENP voters have a favorable opinion of Brahe, as stated in a recent HU Poll, at a rate of 69%. Nils Moller respectfully endorsed Brahe after the election: "I'm proud to endorse her. Rehn believed in her, so I will too." Opposition parties, as it is no surprise, oppose the move, including Karl Falk, who voiced his discomfort by stating Brahe "is a radical who is unwilling to work even with the people in her own coalition. Avancera, if they have a spine, should leave it for their own good."

Government scores several victories despite being delivered a "Pyrrhic gut punch" by opposition during legislative super-session

Image
Despite several legislative victories, two key Gov't bills failed to pass after heavy opposition
Valeins, Vallois - Prime Minister Babineaux and his government have scored a number of important legislative victories after the passage of four bills that formed the core of the VFL's 2020 agenda. Two of the governments tabled bills failed to pass after numerous New Centre MPs broke with the government, voting against three bills in total. Despite passing a number of bills that have proven popular with the public, Babineaux's government has emerged on thin ice after a revolt by confidence-and-supply partner New Centre sank both the ARGUS Act and EIS Act, bills regarded as critical by the government towards promoting a new security policy aimed at "reinvigorating" Valentirian intelligence and law enforcement to be "21st Century ready."

In an effort to reverse his party's downward spiral in recent hypothetical general election polls, as well as reinvigorate his base with a victory in Parliament, Babineaux and Speaker Lucrezia Fiorentini spent most of the parliamentary winter recess in Valeins laying the groundwork for today's super-session. Earlier last week the Prime Minister signaled in Parliament that immigration, education, national security, and foreign policy as the "top priorities of my government in 2020."

Acutely aware of the daunting task of passing seven bills as a minority government, the VFL reportedly spent weeks canvassing MPs, especially on the opposition benches. Sources close to the Prime Minister have suggested that he was forced to lean heavily on New Centre and its leader, Marcus Baxter. Despite possessing a well known working relationship with Baxter, Babineaux has repeatedly struggled to maintain the support of the wider NC caucus. This struggle played out flawlessly today as nearly 2/3rds of New Centre MP's nearly thrashed the government's climate crisis bill, being saved by the NLP no less, and ensuring the failure of two other crucial bills.

Referring to the super-session in Parliament as a "Pyrrhic gut punch," Babineaux worked the spin with members of the press, stating he was "confident" that normal working relations can be restored with New Centre after today's "unfortunate tussle." Despite similar diplomatic sentiments from senior members of both parties, including Baxter himself, sources intimate with the NC caucus spun a different tale; New Centre MPs are reportedly "fatigued" from propping up the VFL for the past two years. Many within the NC also reportedly blame the confidence-and-supply arrangement as the main source of their "electoral bleeding" in the polls, which pundits have pointed out has primarily been in the National Liberal Party's favour. Ideology also played a factor, with many MPs being "fundamentally opposed" to a series of late amendments that were added on Monday and Tuesday.

While the government can breathe a sigh of relief over the passage of a majority of their legislation, a key victory for his party ahead of the 2020 presidential elections, today has also led to a fracturing in the party's tenuous hold on the reigns of government. While Babineaux will run a quick victory lap across the country, he'll need to start sprinting to outrun the challenges facing him and his party in 2020.

Below is a list of the legislation that was voted on by Parliament:

  1. Fair Immigration Reform Act, 2020 (A-03) | 351 ayes, 249 nays
  2. Foreign Assistance & Relief Act, 2020 (A-04) | 302 ayes, 298 nays
  3. Federal Education Standards Reform Act, 2020 (A-05) | 304 ayes, 296 nays
  4. Environmental Protection & Regulation Act, 2020 (A-06) | 328 ayes, 272 nays
  5. Armament Regulation & General Universal Security Act, 2020 (A-07) | 264 ayes, 336 nays
  6. Electoral Integrity & Security Act, 2020 (A-08) | 253 ayes, 347 nays

MOVEMENT FOR A NEW IMAGUA TO SUPPORT IMAGUA LEAVING THE AFDC
Dalmazio Pasquarello says that the AFDC is too dominated by Satucine officials

MNI leader Dalmazio Pasquarello

After Tyra Brahe's speech where she said that "we cannot let others choose for us the path we take," and vowed to not let a repeat of the Pårla incident take place again, Dalmazio Pasquarello announced that "if the Asterian Forum for Development and Cooperation remains dominated by Gatôn, it is time to leave the AFDC."

Pasquarello told supporters at a rally in Rutigliano that "for decades, we have served as a faithful and loyal member in the Asterian Forum for Development and Cooperation. We have paid our fees, we have contributed to the development of its institutions, and we have been willing to trade freely, and to allow the movement of peoples from across the AFDC to and from our Imaguan homeland."

"However, with the recent actions by Allaire to unilaterally close the strait to ships going to and from Chervolesia, which have led to the seizure of the Pårla, and then their reopen the straits months later to Chervolesian shipping, it has become abundantly clear that the Asterian Forum for Development and Cooperation has two paths with which it must choose," Pasquarello said. "Either it can reform so that Satucin is not like the master treating us as though we are their slaves, or we should leave this dysfunctional organisation."

"If elected, I promise that the Movement for a New Imagua will issue the ultimatum, and I will attempt to gather support from our partners in Hammarvik to ensure that the AFDC is no longer dominated by Satucin," Pasquarello declared. "If Satucin is unwilling to accept these demands, and if Eldmark is unwilling to leave, then we may have to go it alone."

"It is not ideal, but we cannot allow ourselves to remain under the yoke of the Satucine slavemasters. We have to either make the AFDC more fair to all its members, or we must leave, either with Eldmark, or alone," Pasquarello said. "These are the options on the table, and I will make sure that the Movement for a New Imagua will use them if elected."

Pasquarello's statements have been criticised, particularly by National leader Giocondo Stasio, who said that "although the Asterian Forum for Development and Cooperation can be improved, threatening to pull out of a major economic bloc, especially without Eldmark, would devastate the national economy for decades to come."
