RAISING THE STAKES, ESTMERE PROVIDES EVIDENCE TO BACK UP CLAIM ZORASAN HAS SECRETLY DEVELOPED NUCLEAR WEAPONS

A satellite of the Soltanabad nuclear facility, which the government claims is one of two
sites where the UZIR has secretly developed its nuclear capability.
ASHCOMBE - The Estmerish government has moved closer to confrontation with the Union of Zorasani Irfanic Republics, half of Prime Minister Reginald Wilton-Smyth’s “axis of evil” after several officials testified before a powerful parliamentary committee this afternoon. The government has accused Zorasan of secretly developing nuclear facilities that are capable of producing nuclear weapons.

Secretary for Defense Markus Fleming was among the officials who addressed an emergency meeting of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs this afternoon expanding upon allegations previously made by the prime minister. In his New Year’s address, Reginald Wilton-Smyth accused the Zorasani government of having “initiated the process of arming itself with missiles and weapons of mass destruction”.

Fleming outlined what the government found to be an “alarming trend”, accusing the Zorasani government of operating two nuclear facilities with the capacity to create nuclear warheads. Intelligence from Estmere and its allies indicates that Zorasan has missiles that are able to strike targets throughout much of southern and eastern Euclea. Such missiles, Fleming says, are capable of holding a nuclear warhead.

One such missile is the Zozanab-25, which has a range of 2,500km, covering all of Southern Euclea and over half of Gaullica. Another missile of concern is the Emad-ye Keshm (Pillar of Fury), which has a range of 1,250km and is a ground-attack cruise missile with considerable accuracy.

“What we know suggests that the Zorasani regime is close to having the ability to launch nuclear attacks on a number of Euclean capitals, population centers, and defense infrastructure” Fleming told the committee.

Director of the National Intelligence Service, Alexander Cunningham, also testified before the committee. He showed the committee satellite photos of two suspected sites, one being the Saranchand Technological Institute, near the southern city of Soltanabad and the other being the Jozdar Military Research and Development Facility, further south, near the city of Jozdar. The Director also made reference to sizeable activity near Mount Saghand. The mountain is close to a known uranium mine, owned by a business linked to the Zorasani military.

Image

The NIS also reportedly estimates that Zorasan possesses up to 25,000 centrifuges, though the figure could be higher. Centrifuges are key for the production of weapons-grade plutonium.

Cunningham told committee members, “from our extensive investigations and analysis, we believe that both the Soltanabad and Jozdar facilities are being used to produce various key elements, including heavy water and plutonium. We also believe that Jozdar possesses a uranium enrichment capacity and that activity around Mount Saghand is indicative of an engineering project.” He further said, “we believe that the Zorasani military may have moved some sections of its programme underground.”

Cunningham said that cooperation with Estmere’s allies, both within the Euclean Defense Treaty Organization (EDTO) and the Collective Intelligence Agreement (CIA), had yielded “troubling” finds.

A joint effort with the CIA - which consists of Estmere, Senria, and Valentir - led Cunningham to conclude that it was “more than likely” Xiaodongese nuclear scientists had assisted Zorasan in developing its nuclear capability.

“By tracking the travels of a number of [Xiaodongese nuclear scientists], we remain confident in our conclusion that Rongzhuo has been involved in this process” the NIS director testified.

The Director referenced their visits to both sites at Soltanabad and Jozdar, as well as their duration of stay.

“While academic exchanges are common, what is not, is the repeated exchanges to facilities involved in nuclear weapons research, let alone the three to four month stays. The locations and duration, is what drives our belief that the Xiaodongese government is actively proliferating nuclear weapons” he told the committee.

The accusation marks a serious escalation in tensions between Ashcombe and Zahedan, with some cabinet secretaries lobbying for sanctions against the Zorasani government.

When asked by the committee if this was something the cabinet had considered, Fleming said “conversations were ongoing” and indicated that “there are voices who believe sanctions would act as a preventative measure”. He declined to say whether or not sanctions would be pursued.

A statement released by the prime minister said he was “alarmed” by the intelligence community's findings and promised to raise the issue further with EC leaders. “This development poses a direct threat to the Euclean way of life, in the coming days and weeks we will discuss this threat thoroughly,” the statement said.

Suspicions over a Zorasani nuclear weapons of program had surfaced before. During the late 1980s, following the democratization of Etruria from 1983 onward, the Etrurian intelligence services began to expand its political links to its Euclean neighbors. In 1989, they brought Zorasan’s immense study of nuclear physics and chemistry to the attention of Euclean governments. This triggered a joint Estmerish-Gaullican intelligence operation from 1989 to 1991 which further rose suspicions, however, the emergence of the “Saffron government”, a pro-democracy reformist government, brought an end to the operation. Hoping not to jeopardize the new standing of the pro-Euclean government, both Estmere and Gaullica withheld their intelligence until 1996 when they brought the to the Atomic Energy Commission. Knowing the Zorasani government would not only fully cooperate but likely sign the anti-nuclear Treaty of Shanbally, what the AEC inquiry revealed was a massively restrained and controlled operation dedicated to theoretical work and limited enrichment. Yet, in wake of the findings, Zorasan went on to dismantle these facilities and the government denounced nuclear weapons as “those of the morally dead and spiritually empty.” The AEC claimed earlier suspicions were understandable and officially cleared Zorasan of pursuing nuclear weapons.

Wilton-Smyth is also set to travel to Keisi next weekend to meet with leaders from Senria and Valentir to discuss growing tensions with Xiaodong and Zorasan, where he has also promised to raise the issue.

No formal response has yet come from the Zorasani government, though sources are indicating that the government will dismiss the revelations as more “Estmerish propaganda and slander.”

Yuan affirms alliance with Zorasan - Estermish nuclear accusations a complete fabrication
08 January 2020 | By Jiang Huliang

State Chairman Yuan Xiannian with First Minister Farzad Akbari in Yuan's private residence in the Xiajiyu Palace

RONGZHUO - State Chairman Yuan Xiannian and Zorasani First Minister Farzad Akbari concluded a series of important meetings this week during a working visit by the Zorasani First Minister aimed to "strengthen the fraternal bond between our nations and their people". The meeting came after continued jingoistic comments by the Estmerish Prime Minister who has alongside his Weranian and Gaullican counterparts engaged in escalating threats against the two nations.

Speaking from the Xiajiyu Palace Yuan stated that "Estmerish actions since the premier's new years speech has attempted to threaten peace in Coius as well as indicate increasingly aggressive intentions from Estmere. Both Xiaodong and the UZIR wholeheartedly condemn Estmerish actions and rhetoric in recent days and urge other countries to cease informal support for such intentions and work towards constructive solutions for the future of the planet".

Although not delving into details, both Akbari and Yuan confirmed that the two leaders had discussed measures that would be taken if Estmere seeks to apply economic sanctions on both countries.

"If Estmere were to impose sanctions, we would definitely look over options that would cripple Estmere and its allies to quite a significant extent" Akbari said. "We have a fairly solid idea of that these options are and what they would entail, although that information is strictly in the realm of hypothetical scenarios for now".

Yuan also stated that he seeks to write to the Chairman of ROSPO Mojtahed Bayat-Zanjani to call an emergency summit in the next month to discuss issues regarding Euclean encroachment into Coius as well as joint Estmerish-Senrian efforts to limit the sovereignty of ROSPO member states. "Myself and Akbari are in full agreement regarding ROSPO's role in countering these efforts to undermine our nations, hence why we will talk to both Bayat-Zanjani and [Hyndanan Union] president Balchandra regarding our next moves".

When asked about recent accusations that Zorasan was building nuclear weapons with Xiaodongese assistance both Yuan and Akbari were clear that this was a "fabrication".

"The Union of Zorasani Ifranic Republic's is under the nuclear umbrella of our Strategic Nuclear Force. As well as this Zorasan has a well developed missile defence network of its own meaning that it well protected against external threats that seek to undermine its sovereignty." Yuan stated.

"If Zorasan is under the threat of a full scale invasion against it under the original Strategic Protocol of ROSPO the Xiaodongese military is obliged to defend Zorasan from that threat. There has not been a change in this guarantee, and we affirm that if such a threat were to appear we would not hesitate in approving a first-strike in line with ROSPO commitments."

"There has been no nuclear proliferation in Zorasan with our nuclear scientists and Estmerish claims are just that - claims".

Yuan also confirmed that the two leaders had discussed economic relations and cooperation as well as the crisis in Tsabara. However he stated conversations on both topics are still ongoing, with some observers believing that Xiaodong has been focused on protecting economic assets in Tsabara whilst Zorasan has been more supportive of clarifying the political shifts in Adunis and formulating a new strategy for the country.

CALDISH GOV'T OFFERS TO HOST PEACE TALKS BETWEEN TSABARAN FACTIONS AMID CONTINUED CRISIS
Caldia is "ready" to host peace negotiations as political crisis in Tsabara continues to escalate

Taoiseach Stiofán Mac Suibhne announced his government's offer to mediate talks between clashing factions in Tsabara.

SPÁLGLEANN – Caldia is ready to host intra-Tsabaran negotiations and will work to facilitate talks should all parties involved agrees, Taoiseach Stiofán Mac Suibhne announced this afternoon.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Mac Suibhne said that Caldish diplomats had discussed facilitating peace talks between the Tsabaran interim government and its rivals "at length" with all parties involved.

"These conversations have been ongoing for several days. The continued rise in tensions both within Tsabara and the region are of deep concern, and the Caldish government is ready and willing to work towards bringing an end to this crisis through the facilitation of conversations between all parties involved" Mac Suibhne told reporters.

The taoiseach said he expects talks to take place sometime next week after arrangements are "finalized". He confirmed that in recent days he had spoken to key leaders involved in the crisis and that all had "demonstrated a willingness" to work towards a "peaceful resolution" to the political crisis that has gripped Tsabara.

He said all parties had stated their desire for Caldia to facilitate potential peace talks and were "in the process" of committing to attending talks in Spálgleann early next week.

"This would be a significant development" Mr. Mac Suibhne said. However, he cautioned international governments that talks were "no sure thing" and urged the Community of Nations to "act in the interests of maintaining peace in Tsabara".

Mr. Mac Suibhne also stressed that the situation remains difficult and that he was "realistic" about the peace process. "The prospect of dialogue is only the start of this process, but until international actors agree to end involvement in Tsabara I remain realistic that the path ahead is difficult".

"We should be cautious, but I can see the will to find answers to the problems that face Tsabara".

A political crisis has engulfed Tsabara since the death of long-time leader Atwan al-Tughluq. His death left a power vacuum that his premier, Yahya Aboud, attempted to fill by suspending the constitution and assuming the powers of both the office of the presidency and the premier. A hardline political Irfanist, Mr. Aboud was deposed and killed in a coup by moderates who favored Nazim al-Qutayni, a powerful ex-minister.

Since his tenure as acting president began, Mr. al-Qutayni has been faced with a worsening crisis as Irfanic extremists and Atudite separatists spar with his unity government. On 27 December, a series of attacks on the country’s largest city, Yeruham, left 197 dead and over 300 wounded. Tensions have since reached their peak, with clashes between anti-government protesters resulting in the death of one protester.

The Tsabaran government announced publicly it was willing to participate in talks after the incident, and reports have indicated that the Union of Zorasani Irfanic Republics has pressured Sheik Faizan Salah, the de facto leader of political Irfan in Tsabara, into agreeing to talks.

The taoiseach’s announcements comes on the heels of these developments, and a failed attempt by the Euclean Commission to get EC leaders to agree to joint approach to Tsabara. Talks broke down after a number of the EC’s smaller members blocked an attempt by the Estmerish prime minister, Reginald Wilton-Smyth, to provide material aid to the al-Qutayni unity government.

Mr. Wilton-Smyth has contributed to tensions in the region as he sparrs with Zorasan, first identifying it as part of an “axis of evil” with Xiaodong and later having Estmerish government officials publicize evidence they claim shows the Zorasani government is working to develop its nuclear capacities.

In response, Caldish diplomats raised alarmed and backed a Gaullican motion for the Atomic Energy Commission to conduct an audit of Zorasan’s nuclear infrastructure. It is understood that the taoiseach has been in touch with high-level Zorasani officials and that an invitation was extended to the Zorasani government to attend shadow-talks happening alongside potential intra-Tsabaran talks.

A spokesperson for the Foreign Ministry declined to comment as to what Zorasani officials Mr. Mac Suibhne had spoken to or whether or not his invitation had been accepted by Zahedan.

State President condemns Estmere as government enters talks with AEC to allow investigation

Zahedan, Union Capital Territory- State President Vahid Isfandiar has chaired a cabinet meeting to discuss the latest falsehoods produced by the Estmerish government, in which it produced “evidence” to support its claim that the Union is developing nuclear weapons
Image
File photo: The cabinet voted to allow an AEC investigation to "disprove" Estmere's fantasies.
In the televised meeting, the State President slammed Estmere saying, “what we saw from them was nothing more than comical theatre.” However, the State President confirmed that inspectors from the Atomic Energy Commission would be permitted into Zorasan.

The State President chaired the cabinet meeting owing to First Minister Farzad Akbari’s visit to Xiaodong, in response to Estmere’s accusation of the Union pursuing nuclear weapons. However, the meeting took deeper meaning after the Atomic Energy Commission announced that it intended to investigate the claims made by the Estmerish government.

Charing the meeting, which was televised, he told ministers, “we are facing a new front in Estmere’s war against our country. Now we are facing even greater lies and falsehoods about weapons of mass destruction. The onslaught continues, yet we stand strong with truth behind us.”

He went onto slam the presentation televised on Estmerish news, by the head of Estmere’s National Intelligence Service.

“I’ve seen the footage of that meeting, as I am sure we all have. What we saw from them was nothing more than comical theatre” he said, before joking, “we could claim Estmere was operating concentration camps by using satellite images of buildings and referencing vague movements of people.”

Foreign Minister Saeed Rasfanjani raised the issue of the AEC investigation, to which State President Isfandiar reminded the cabinet that “Zorasan always honours its international obligations, we do not abuse international law unlike some countries, as seen by the abuses of territorial waters. We are signatory to the AEC and therefore, we are obligated to assist any investigation.”

However, the State President drew nods and agreement from ministers when he criticised the AEC’s decision.

“Though we will assist, it is paramount that we recognise the poor decision the AEC took in pursuing this investigation. While reputable, it is surely not blind or deaf to the utter fantasies that the Estmerish government has produced in recent months. Surely, they too see that is a government, with no domestic agenda, therefore it seeks out glory abroad. I worry that the AEC is succumbing to pressures Estmere is applying internationally, it is becoming internationally politicised” he said.

The State President concluded the meeting after discussing other business with ministers.

Since the meeting, the Foreign Ministry has confirmed that it has been contact with the Atomic Energy Commission, issuing a statement saying, “we are currently in talks with the Atomic Energy Commission over its desired investigation in the false claims by Estmere. While we honour our legal obligations, we intend to allow an investigation once all measures are put in place to ease its implementation.”

The accusations by Estmere have further fuelled tensions, with widespread condemnation of the country coming from circles within the military and the Supreme Assembly. Equal condemnation has been lodged against the AEC, with a group of ten MPs writing an open letter to the government criticising the AEC as “now clearly corrupted by the malicious Euclean cabal that seeks the re-subjugation of Coius.”

Senator Malcolm O'Cahill

The newest political party in Imagua has gained representation in Parliament for the first time as independent senator Malcolm O'Cahill announced that he will be joining the Movement for a New Imagua, saying at a press conference early this morning that "the party stands for what Imagua ought to be."

Senator O'Cahill said that "for the first time in years, I have found a political party which represents not just what I agree with, but what Imagua really ought to be: one where immigration is curbed, one where we actually punish evildoers, one where we uphold and defend traditional values, and one which advocates for an elected Senate." He added that "Pasquarello has shown Imaguans that there are people who are willing to defend our interests and defend our basic rights as given to us by God."

Pasquarello has confirmed Senator O'Cahill's membership in the party, saying that "we are delighted to have representation in either chamber of Parliament as we prepare for the coming elections." Pasquarello also said that Senator O'Cahill's experience would be "invaluable as we prepare to contest our first elections," and shows that "even those serving in the old system are ready for change."

Senator Malcolm O'Cahill was appointed by President Isaac Egnell in 1995 under the advice of Prime Minister Austin Houghton, and would be the only person to ever serve as a senator for the National Reform Party, serving as senator for the National Reform Party until the party was legally deregistered by Elections Imagua in February 2002. He served as an independent senator from that point until today.

More as the story develops.

JINDAO CHIEF EXECUTIVE SHOULD RESIGN IMMEDIATELY
January 10, 2020 | By Deng Yazhou

Image
Jindaoese Chief Executive Guo Zhenya

JINDAO - In 2016 when foreign subversives and saboteurs were rife across Xiaodong, many blamed Jindao - the unusually liberalised autonomous administrative territory - as an entry point for these saboteurs. When Chief Executive elections were being held in March - when Normalisation was correcting society and strengthening the country - there was a desperate need for a strong, patriotic voice to be leading in Jindao. It was no wonder then when the popular Guo Zhenya, considered to be the best representative of both Jindao's dynamic economic success and Xiaodongese nationalism and pride was elected Chief Executive.

Almost four years later however his administration has proven to be the most incompetent in recent memory.

Jindao continues to be economically stagnant in terms of living standards, poverty and unemployment reduction. Whilst Xiaodong has recorded extraordinary success to eliminating inequality Jindao has continued to struggle to shake off the colonial plutocratic system that has led to an outburst of socioeconomic tensions that threatens to derail its progress in integrating into its natural motherland and consign to history Estmetrish imperialism.

Guo has attempted to end this disparity but has been wholly ineffective. Some suspect he has brought either by plutocrats or foreign oligarchs, others to a lack of political will or a hope that the central government will provide leadership. Either way Guo has been impotent.

But if he is merely ineffective in dealing with long-running socioeconomic conditions, his approach to recent events has been utterly incompetent. Starting in June there have been month-long protests in Jindao following a controversial court ruling that saw several Zorasani citizens facing extradition to Zorasan for defacing the Zorasani consulate. Many protesters allege that an extradition to Zorasan will result in death for the suspects. The protests soon were hijacked by COMSED spies and Estmerish-oligarch money to become anti-Xiaodongese in character.

A competent leader - such as former Premier Qiang Xingwen or our current great leader Yuan Xiannian - would've know how to use the appropriate level of both reconciliation, force and foresight to deal firmly with the protesters. But Guo despite his patriotic statements was utterly impotent displaying neither the political skill of reconciliation nor the will to use appropriate force to deal with the protesters.

Despite a well-thought out by Vice-Premier Jiang Shaohong to resolve the issue by transferring the prisoners into national custody, the damage was done. Guo's utter lack of ability to control events has meant that Xiaojian infest Jindao wishing to subjugate to colonial rule.

Jindao needs a leader who is credible on all fronts - who has ideas to fix long running economic issues, the ability to communicate with the silent majority to come to a sensible resolution to political problems, the strength to use force if required and the foresight to normalise Jindao's status in Xiaodong. On all fronts Guo has failed which is why we implore that he either resigns or is removed from office.

Wei's first public address after being sworn in as Chief Executive this morning.

BREAKING: Wei Hanying to succeed Zhenya as Chief Executive of Jindao
Guo stepped down last night after hefty critique from Xiaodongese media
Liu Mei reporting from Metropolitan, Jindao
January 11, 2019

A moment many in the South Coian political landscape saw coming has finally occurred - Chief Executive Guo Zhenya announced his resignation from the post last night after the East Sea Daily released a piece slamming the 53-year-old for his ineffective economic and social policies.

Several topics were touched on in the piece, including Jindao's stagnant growth compared to the mainland, as well as the ineffective of his government's handling of the recent protests, which are believed to have been the major catalyst for Guo's resignation.

Guo delivered his last Biao address to a half-empty hall, a deafening silence representedhis loss of power in Jindao.

But the question everyone was asking was: who will replace him?

Well, that question was swiftly answered by Xiaodong and Jindao, who have appointed previous Minister of Transport Wei Hanying to the post. Wei was noted for her pro-Xiaodong policies whilst part of Guo's cabinet, however she was dismissed in November 2019 after she voiced dismay in the Chief Executive's handling of the protests, which had caused major disruption to many aspects of the Jindanese transport network.

Wei is thought to have travelled to Rongzhuo before the beginning of the new year to sort out the necessary aspects of Chief Executive succession, notably securing the approval of Chairperson Yuan Xiannian, who ultimately has the final say on the appointment. Her time of departure suggests the Xiaodongese government had their sights set on removing Guo for some time before going through with it.

When Jindao Morning Post caught up with Guo as he left the Biao building for what seems to be the final time, he remarked "I am proud to have served this beautiful city, and it is sad to depart so early." Guo refused to answer any further questions.

Wei, however, has a more optimistic outlook on the city. Pro-Xiaodong and ROSPO, pro-market and extremely fond of expanding Jindanese transport, the former Chairwomen of the Jindanese Transport Authority boasts a track record that is nothing short of stunning, having been the lead designer of two planned residential cities.

However, some have described her as a more moderate option for the Autonomous Administrative Territory, with some hailing her as the most moderate in the city's prime position since 1996.

Interim President accepts Caldish mediation.

Image
Interim-President Nazim al'Qutayni accepting terms for Caldish mediation on live TV.
Adunis, Adunis Province - Nazim al'Qutayni, the interim president of the Transtsabaran Federation, announced on live TV that he was accepting Caldish calls for mediation in the ongoing 'Tsabaran Crisis.' It comes after numerous highly destructive and threatening events have called into question the longevity of the cosocial state. As Nazim and his 'Grand Coalition' struggle to bring order back to the eastern provinces of the country, terror attacks in the west, threats from Zorasani nuclear potentiality and attacks on highly important networks of infrastructure threaten the nation.

The President said that it was time for: "all people of Tsabara to put aside their differences" earlier this morning, hinting that he was undergoing a "major change in strategy" in "saving the country from partition." The agreement comes after Taoiseach Stiofán Mac Suibhne announced that Caldia itself was willing to negotiate mediation and peace-talks between the Tsabaran factions.

"The prospect of dialogue is only the start of this process, but until international actors agree to end involvement in Tsabara I remain realistic that the path ahead is difficult" the Taoiseach said.

Calls for negotiations and peace were extremely high and favourable amongst the populace following the Yeruham attack that left 197 dead and over 300 wounded. It was further exacerbated following the accidental killing of an 18 year old girl by the military during a protest crackdown. Bloodshed and the perspective of 'Tsabara tearing itself from the seams' has become a strong narrative within Tsabaran circles, especially abroad, and a lot of world is watching with baited breath.

During his address on TV, the interim president called on the nation to unite behind him. "There are too many factors at play, and too high of a chance for Tsabara to be divided from within by the without. It is time for unity, for the cosocial republic, for Tsabara is one and indivisible. I am announcing to the Tsabaran people who are entrusting in me to go on with our scheduled elections in March of this year, I am announcing to the world, that I am accepting the calls of the Caldish Taoiseach to mediate peace."

"The interim-government have accepted his offer, and look forward to the meeting and talks beginning this Wednesday." So far, the government have confirmed that if Sheik Salah is to accepted -- which it is highly believed that he will, given recent activity and posts online: especially twitter -- Nazim al'Qutayni, Aryeh Kahlon and Serge Bélanger, will travel to represent the nation at the Caldish talks.

We here at the Federalist can only hope that these talks succeed.

BREAKING: SHEIK SALAH TO JOIN CALDIAN PEACE TALKS
Image

YEKSHANBEH 22 DEY 1398 | 12 JANUARY 2020 | By Hamid Sattarifar | @Eftekar.zr

Sources close to Sheik Faizan Salah, the leader of the League of the Righteous movement and central figure of the political resistance in Eastern Tsabara, are indicating that he has agreed to send representatives to Caldia, for mediated peace talks.

The Caldish government proposed the mediated talks four days ago, eager to calm the situation after gunmen attacked the predominately Atudite city of Yeruham. Many in the League of the Righteous, known as Asa'ib Ahl al-Haq in Badawiyan (AAH), were fearful of the so-called unity government applying blame. Once the group known as Al-Isbah claimed responsibility, the Sheik and his associates were swift to distance themselves from the attacks, even as mass protests and riots continued to rock the eastern provinces.

Sheik Faizan Salah, leader of
the AAH has agreed to join talks
in Caldia.

The Sheik was also under pressure from the Union-government, who have maintained close ties to his movement following the suspicious death of the late Atwan al-Tughluq and brutal overthrow of his successor, Yahya Aboud by the current “interim” president, Nazim al-Qutayni.

The government in Zahedan denied reports that it had sent officials to Sidi Amar, where the Sheik and AAH leadership are based. The denials followed posts on Instagram yesterday, seemingly showing Brigadier General Parviz Jahangard entering the compound that houses the Sheik. This was followed by the near confirmation that the AAH will attend peace talks this morning.

One source said, “there was much deliberation among the senior political council of the AAH about these talks. The Sheik believed exploring peaceful options was the best way to save lives, especially after the usurper government martyred an 18-year old daughter of the East.” The source went to say that several members opposed the talks, citing the lack of trust in the “unity” government.

The vote was swayed after Governor of Hassani Abdelkrim province, Saad Mubarak championed the peace talks being used to secure the withdrawal of federal forces from the east and fresh snap elections. Ultimately, the Senior Political Council voted unanimously for taking part in the peace-talks.

Other sources indicated that the AAH may send Governor Ali al-Bakawi of Qadessiyah province to represent the movement. He had previously served as a diplomat for Tsabara and as ambassador to Werania between 2005 and 2011.

In Zorasan, the Foreign Ministry confirmed a separate invitation by the Caldish government for bi-lateral talks. The Ministry confirmed in an online statement that State President Vahid Isfandiar will travel to Spalgleann for discussions with Taoiseach Stiofán Mac Suibhne.

The statement said, “the efforts by the Caldish government to promote a peaceful solution in Tsbara is most welcome, even as it stands in stark contrast to some of its fellow Euclean nations. The Zorasani government will accept the invitation for bi-lateral talks and is optimistic that a wider solution can be found to the tragic events in Tsabara.”

It is not known what conditions the AAH will present in exchange for a mutually agreeable solution, though some sources indicate that they will demand the immediate withdrawal of all federal military forces from the East, in exchange for AAH support in confronting “ultra-violent” groups like Al-Isbah.

The Union’s talks with the Caldish government will be overshadowed by rising tensions with Estmere and the recent success by the neo-imperialist government in Ashcombe to persuade the Atomic Energy Commission, that Zorasan is seeking nuclear weapons. The nuclear issue was further complicated this morning, after 36 MPs signed a bill prohibiting the entry of investigators from the AEC until “such time that the AEC’s independence as an international institution is restored.” The motion will be tabled on Monday and is drawing much support across the Popular Council.

With Sheik Salah and the AAH confirming their attendance, talks are expected to begin next week.

Neba Izsjuga is the new Miss Minilov

Neba Izsjuga is the new Miss Minilov

AUDOCRKVE, Minilov — 22-year-old Neba Izsjuga has been chosen as the new Miss Minilov. Coming off the stairs on the main stage, she stumbled and landed on her knees, losing a bra, but this didn't keep her from winning the crown. "I am the best example that you have to stand up again if you fall, also in life."

The contest was held late on Saturday, in the Ljubavnik Telekom Theatre in Audocrkve (Sjevernate province). Neba hails from Satovi Dyer (Spajanje province) and obtained a degree in Law. Earlier, she had won a title as Miss Social Media. It's the fifth time in six years that a candidate from Spajanje province clinches the Miss Minilov crown.

"I can't describe what I'm feeling now", she told reporters after her triumph. "I know this is a standard answer, but now I understand what each Miss before me felt. It's a dream come true and I will continue dreaming for a while."

For a moment, things were not looking too well for Neba as she stumbled when making her entry on stage. A bra fell from her dress and remained on the stage. "I fell today, but I am the best example that you need to stand up again if you fall, also in life", she said about the 'incident' which sparked a flood of comments on social media.

Organiser Dragina Lisica knows why Neba made it: "She is very fluent speaker, something which she already had as a child. That's also why she started Law School. She is a real entrepreneur."

THE RENEWED POWER OF CALDIA'S ONCE DECLINING TRADE UNIONS
The return of the PSD's working-class backers has resulted in a monumental shift in policy as Mac Suibhne holds the reins
12 January 2020 | Gráinne Fitzpatrick

Image
Taoiseach Stiofán Mac Suibhne has re-orientated his party back towards the working class groups that founded it.

AFTER years locked out of power, the Social Democratic Party heads the Caldish government once again. The return of the PSD has been accompanied by resurgence of the Caldish trade unions' political capital. Their renewed ascent to power came in the aftermath of a series of scandals that shattered the country's seemingly dominant Liberty Party, ushering in change at the highest levels of government. However, the political return of the trade unions did not simply begin with the 2019 snap election.

In the wake of the PSD's disappointing performance in the 2012 general election, the party chose Darragh Ballíck to lead them in opposition to Alexis Walker's Liberty-Centre coalition. Ballíck, like his predecessor Mícheál Ó Domhnaill, had few personal ties to the nation's trade unions. The newly-minted party leader was a former accountant and had fallen behind on his union dues before standing as a candidate in the 1995 Spálgleann local elections. His lack of personal involvement in the trade union movement made him appealing to his backers. A member of the party's soft left faction, Ballíck and his supporters positioned him as a candidate that could win over the middle class. This would appeal to voters who backed Liberty in the 2002, 2007, and 2012 elections and make seats in Caldia's vote-rich suburban counties competitive. The relative decline of the working class as a voting bloc meant the middle class, skeptical of the PSD's tax and spend platform, was an electoral kingmaker.

However, Ballíck had an affection for the unions. His father was a factory worker and active in Spálgleann's trade union movement, his mother a member of the Federation of Ghaillish Teachers, and all four of his brothers attended trade schools and entered the industrial workforce. He found a useful allies in several powerful trade unionists, securing his most important partnership with the former chair of the Association of Ironworkers and Miners, Stiofán Mac Suibhne.

Mac Suibhne himself had powerful allies within both the unions and the upper levels of the PSD itself. Having served as a member of the party's central committee, he was a key player in the turbulent years during and after the Nic Uilliam government. Like Ballíck, he was a member of the PSD's soft left. However, he had what Ballíck did not - the unions. Frustrated by industrial decline, privatization, and cuts to public spending, the trade unionists had long been plotting their political return. For some of the PSD's die-hard unionists, the Nic Uilliam years proved to be too much. They defected from the party, forming the Industrial Labour Party in the run up to the 1997 general election. They cost Niamh Nic Uilliam her majority, and she was forced to seek out a coalition with the Greens. While some TCs and thousands of PSD voters abandoned the party in the 1997 election, the unions themselves had not. They proved instrumental in ousting Nic Uilliam as party leader in 2001, fueling a political crisis that resulted in royal intervention and the eventual abdication of a king.

In a bid to avoid this fate, Ballíck approached the well-connected Mac Suibhne to serve as his deputy leader, an offer that was accepted. This was the true start of the unions' political return. With a trade unionist as deputy leader, they secured the inclusion of policy priorities in the party's platform. However, the infighting the PSD knew all too well would soon return. In the run up to the 2017 election, Ballíck announced an electoral pact with the Greens. This enraged the trade unionists, suffering from a mix of deja vu Nic Uilliam's own Red-Green pact and frustration over the threats this posed to the country's powerful petroleum and iron unions. A minority of Ballíck's detractors admonished him for seeking out an alliance with the Greens over the Labour Party, which was more in line with the trade unionists' own agenda. 2017 proved to be a disaster for the PSD. Walker's exit from national politics provided them with an opportunity to return to power. However, the party's very public infighting posed an electoral threat. Two of the unions hardest hit by privatization of their declining industries went as far as abandoning the PSD, opting instead to support Labour. Ballíck's frequent eggings by trade unionists became the biggest joke of the campaigns.

The all-important middle class voter was put off by the infighting, and instead opted to back the Liberty-Centre coalition once again. Young voters had even abandoned the PSD, opting instead to back Centre. The return of Walker's coalition was seen as inevitable, and Centre's promises of ending university tuition fees and was viewed as a power check on the centre-right government. Under Ballíck, the PSD gained only five seats. He resigned shortly after. His parting words were not kind to the trade unionists, who had said presented an "endemic problem" for his party. Some voices called for the return of the PSD's right faction, arguing their low-spending policies would appeal to the middle class. After the election Éamonn Mac Conmara, Nic Uilliam's finance minister, famously reflected that "in a country that has benefited so much from the flat tax and liberal economic policy, orthodox socialism stands little chance". The unions disagreed.

With Ballíck's exit, Mac Suibhne became acting leader and was officially named as to PSD's top spot that July. The start of his tenure was mostly quiet, as he focused on rebuilding ties between his party and the labor groups that founded it. He named Gearóid MacMaster, his successor as head of the Association of Ironworkers and Miners, as his deputy. This was a tremendous moment for the trade unionists, who now had total control over the PSD's political apparatus. Mac Suibhne was also quick to elevated left-wing and soft-left voices within his party, isolating the PSD's right-wing. His Shadow Cabinet was a careful balance of the left-wing and the soft-wing, and was also inclusive of the party's young faction and other interest groups. The party was re-branded as one that was firmly to the left, progressive, and current. Policies added to the party's platform under his leadership promoted increased state-spending, the reintroduction of the progressive tax, a universal basic income program using state oil dividends, and increased spending on social services and education. The tax and spend nature of the PSD had returned, a stark contrast to the centre-right coalition government of Jimmy O'Reilly.

Despite their differences, Mac Suibhne proved he was willing to work with O'Reilly towards common goals. The two cut a deal on immigration reform after Liberty's right-wing withdrew their support for O'Reilly's Immigration Reform Act. The PSD stepped up, offering their backing in exchange for increased spending on social services. Even from the opposition benches, the influence of the trade unions could be felt as O'Reilly promised to increase spending on public services. For a taoiseach that campaigned against new taxes, this presented some challenges. However, O'Reilly would not last long enough to face them. A diplomatic scandal resulted in his resignation. He was replaced by Frank Casarnach, the loudest voice in Liberty's right-wing. His government introduced heavy cuts to spending in their June 2018 budget and Casarnach went back on the deal O'Reilly cut with Mac Suibhne. The PSD accused the new taoiseach of implementing unneeded austerity, while Casarnach argued he was simply streamlining the bureaucracy and keeping taxes low. The unions were faced with new challenges, as cuts to public services would result in layoffs. Casarnach passed his budget, and the PSD and their trade unionist backers vowed to reverse the cuts.

Casarnach was himself talking out in a scandal surrounding his tenure as Minister of Petroleum. Mac Suibhne rallied against the taoiseach, calling for his resignation and a snap election. Power was within his grasp, if only he could catapult his trade unionist movement into Loveland. The situation worsened for Casarnach after the national anti-corruption agency pressed charges against his wife and announced they had charges they would press against him once he was out of office. His coalition partners, left bitter from fights of spending and immigration, abandoned him. When Casarnach refused to call the election Mac Suibhne wanted, the opposition leader rallied the parties, and the public, in favor of a motion of no confidence. However, it did not get to that stage. Before the legislature returned from its winter recess, a royal intervention saw Casarnach sacked and subsequently arrested. He was succeeded by his own finance minister, who called a snap election for February.

The corruption and scandal of the Casarnach tenure saw public support grow for the PSD. This phenomenon was not spurred by a change in ideology, but the realization of the country's middle class that over fifteen years in power led to corruption within the Liberty Party. Mac Suibhne also campaigned on good governance, an argument that won him the support of voters. The PSD won a landslide victory in the snap election, securing a majority of their own and returning to government for the first time since 2002. The trade unions had played the long game, one they started by acting against Nic Uilliam.

Mac Suibhne's leadership as taoiseach has secured a number of major wins for the trade unions. Tax and spend policies have returned as the flat tax was ended and a new tax bracket was introduced. Over a billion euclos was poured into education and public services and the government has recently passed a bill that will see the nation's largest rail operator re-nationalized. More taxes are likely to come under Mac Suibhne, who has promised to increase spending and roll out a universal basic income scheme sometime this year. His government is arguably the most pro-union since that of Mícheál Ó Muilleoir in the late 1970s. As taxes go up and state intervention in the economy increases, the influences of the nation's once declining unions will only grow further. The PSD is their party once again, as are taxpayer's purse-strings.

Can anyone save the SRPO?
Opposition party faces a reckoning this week in its leadership election.

WESTBRÜCKEN, WERANIA - Since it was defeated in last May's election the Social Democratic Radical Party has floundered aimlessly under an interim leadership. Demoralised after being unceremoniously ousted from government its leader and former Chancellor Viktor Oberhauser made a speedy exit, saying his defeat was due to a hostile media and a lack of support from both his party and coalition partners. His quick exit however left the party in limbo - the man designated as acting leader, former health minister Konrad Schröder, is a weak personality with little support within the party.

Over the summer the SRPO refrained from determining the rules for the leadership contest instead commissioning party grandee and former leader Lothar Holzmeister in undertaking a wide-ranging review of the party's defeat and lessons for the future. Holzmeister's report - published in September 2019 - blamed the loss on the following factors - a failure to triangulate to the left on economics, a lack of credibility amongst working class voters regarding immigration and crime and a sense that Chancellor Oberhauser appeared to lack convictions and would do and say anything to remain in power.

The conclusions of the Holzmeister report was for the SRPO to reaffirm their economic rationalist principles, listen to voter concerns on immigration and crime, elect a leader who would be seen to be both strong and having consistent principles and present plans for transitioning to a green economy. The most important point Holzmeister emphasised was that "left-wing populism never beats right-wing populism".

Much of the party however has rejected this conclusion.

The leadership election has produced three candidates - Luise Höcherl, Stefan Felder and Johann Schöttmer. All have established executive experience - Höcherl as Minister of the Economy, Felder as Minister of the Environment and Schöttmer as Minister-President of Ostry. But they represent different wings of the party.

Höcherl is considered to be a part of the party's establishment. A moderate social democrat Höcherl has supported the Holzmeister report and highlighted her record as Economy Minister where she promoted increased investment in public services and deregulation as key to maintaining economic stability. She has also placed a pro-Euclean agenda at the top of her priorities and has stated that a broad alliance of the SRPO with the Modern Centre and possibly centrist factions of the Greens is preferable. For these reasons Höcherl has garnered the support of most party grandees ranging from former ministers to currently serving local politicians. She would also be the third female to lead the SRPO, a fact she would call a "significant progressive victory".

Her opponents however are considered to be quite different.

Schöttmer, the long-serving Minister-Chairman of Ostry, represents the trade unionist wing of the party and would be the first paraplegic leader of a Weranian political party. An old-school social democrat Schöttmer has support mainly in the Ostric and more importantly the Ruttish branches of the party that lobby for far more decentralisation. His campaign to shift the party back to traditional socialist issues - inequality, workers' rights, trade unionism, tax and spend - alongside federal decentralisation has meant a significant part of the party, mainly older members connected to trade unions, support his candidacy. However Schöttmer lacks support from the establishment and has somewhat been eclipsed by his rival Felder.

Felder has essentially rejected Holzmeister's conclusion and has instead taken note of the success of the greens. Championing an unabashed democratic socialist policy Felder has placed the environment as a priority, pointing to his record as Minister of the Environment as proof of his green activism. He has more controversially criticised the government he served in as having "betrayed the principles of our party". Amongst his other policies include a plan to give all citizens a basic income, believing that the availability of work will decrease due to automation and a 35-hour workweek, and less if a worker chooses in exchange for state compensation. Felder has also supported the legalisation of cannabis and euthanasia.

Felder's radical left-wing policies has attracted support amongst voters normally interested in the Green Party and has emerged as the leader of an insurgent left-wing of the party. However many say his longshot candidacy is not only unlikely to succeed but would make the party to radical for the moderate voters the SRPO depend on and divide the party needlessly along right-left lines. But his campaign has picked up momentum and some are saying even if he doesn't win he could force Höcherl or Schöttmer.

So what does this bode for the SRPO? The party is struggling to assert its identity and many are worried that whoever wins could alienate another wing of the party. Although all the candidates have stated they wish to preserve party unity this could be an impossible task. The SRPO are in a dismal parliamentary position and are liable to be squeezed from both the right under the PMZ's popular new leader Edmund Remarque and from the left by the Greens. The party is seen to be lacking in ideas against a government however controversial that has a clear plan for the country.

The SRPO could soon find that unless it can present a credible opposition and attractive programme for voters it could have no right to exist.

Strategic Nuclear Rocket Force Command Announces Successful Test of New Missile

The missile was tested successfully early this morning.

Aleksandrovka, Chervolesia — A strategic intercontinental ballistic missile test-fire was conducted successfully under the guidance of Vasilissa Masalina-Mravinskaya, Technical Secretary of the Council of People’s Commissars and Supreme Commander of the People’s Liberation Army. The supreme commander braved rainy conditions at the test site to personally oversee the test firing of the missile.

At 05.45, the supreme commander gave the order to start the test-firing of the missile. The test-fire was a resounding success and proved that all the tactical and technological specifications of the system correctly reached the preset indexes.

After the success of the test-firing, the supreme commander gave high praise to our young and talented national defence scientists, saying the missile is a “great weapon” and the scientists had performed “great work in advancing Socialism.” She went further declaring that the young and promising contingent of defence scientists are “a precious treasure and the wealth of the nation” and the Chervolesian-oriented defence industry will be “steadily developed and improved upon by talented scientists and technicians faithful to Chervolesian Socialism.”

Since the success of the test-fire, organisations from around the world have voiced their congratulations to the Commune of Working People of Chervolesia and its endeavours for the advancement of socialism.

The Nuxican Group for Solidarity and Cooperation with the Commune of Working People of Chervolesia issued a statement praising the paramount success of our Commune’s missile test. The Nuxican Group or Solidarity and Cooperation with the Commune of Working People of Chervolesia issued a warning to the National Functionists of the so-called “Euclean Community” and so-called “Asterian Forum for Development and Cooperation,” saying that the real Axis of Evil should recognise the strategic superiority of the Commune of Working People of Chervolesia.

Likewise, the Estmerish Preparatory Committee for Cooperation with the Commune of Working People of Chervolesia issued a statement declaring the success of the latest missile test by the Commune of Working People of Chervolesia as the “historic event that has successfully ended the social imperialist AFDC’s hostile policy towards the Commune of Working People of Chervolesia, which has lasted since the formation of the imperial alliance.”

The People’s Commissariat of Revolutionary Affairs expanded on both statements:

“Thanks to the success of our brave and talented scientists, the successful testing of the latest intercontinental ballistic missile greatly enhances the strategic strength of our People’s Liberation Army. With the latest missile added to our already greatly expanded arsenal, our Commune of Working People has shown to the world that the Commune is in possession of a strong, well-equipped, and well-disciplined military which no one would dare provoke. The success of the missile test further proves the technological prowess of Chervolesian-oriented Socialism compared to the backwards social imperialist methods of capitalism.

An important mission our defence industry takes up is to contribute to increasing national defence capabilities in every way so as to safeguard the revolution, country and people, and guarantee the final victory of the revolution to lead and promote the building of a powerful socialist nation. The successful test-fire of the ‘I-10’ missile is one more step to the defence industry achieving that mission.”

Today’s test-fire marks the five-year anniversary of the test of the RS-18 missile, and today’s success will forever mark 13 January as an unforgettably good day.

Since the dawn of a new year, a new decade, students at the Euclean University of Sublustria have been taking deeper steps to engage with the local population. While the Imperial government takes some efforts to push an understanding and a sense of immersion in this primitive paradise, many university students still feel like their experience is too formalized and academic. Seeking a more authentic and genuine experience, the sort that your average tourist doesn't get to see, the Student Union has taken to trying to chart a series of temporary villages across the island of Matuwahine, and visiting them in their pristine native state.

According to Yocatullic law, no permanent structures and settlements are allowed to exist beyond the one city per island in the Celestial Isles, which some have attributed to the small population of the archipelago relative to its land size. However, a collection of temporary dwellings built from reeds and grass dot many rivers, ponds, and ancient hunting grounds, where people continue to abide by their timeless laws as well as provide many of the exotic meats and leathers that flourish in the major settlements. However, these settlements are at serious risk of disease, and often lack proper medical attention and care in their close-to-nature way of life. Folk remedies are often dominant, wrapping a wound in this or that leaf, or eating these seeds to cure a stomach ache. While it is difficult to transport modern medicine to these communities and establish lasting connections, a team of EUS students brought vaccine crates to take care of the big problems these communities face. Here was my experience just a couple days ago:

It was a misty sunday morning when we headed out to for the daily shift, making excellent use of our winter break on a summery island. We had talked with some of the local merchants, gotten to know where they met with some of their providers and where these villages might be found this time of year. The vaccine crates were loaded into the back of our utility vehicle, assigned by the university to just about every department. The roads leading out of town were narrow, clearly not made for vehicles like ours. The real rough ride began at the edge of town though, where for the most part, only narrow footpaths and subtle trail signs helped to guide us where we needed to go. A pile of rocks, a bent tree, we followed the landmarks out deeper and deeper into the untamed jungle. The babbling stream of water could eventually be heard over the sound of our engine when we stood still, and we knew we were getting close.

The reed huts came into view, almost indistinguishable from the surrounding forest and the nearby riverbank. Given the subtlety of the direction markers, clearly they were hiding. Maybe it was from rival tribes, once upon a time, and their customs just continued. Maybe they were hiding from modernity, and we had the audacity to roll it right up to their metaphorical doorstep. They didn't seem afraid though, more curious. I wonder how many of them saw a truck like ours before, or maybe they found all the smeared leaves and twigs on our windshield funny. We introduced ourselves as students at the university near the coast, and told them we wanted to bring some medicine to the interior villages, a straightforward sentiment which they seemed to welcome. Soon enough, we got them lining up for their shots, and unloaded a crate for use.

The first man in line was a proud, elderly warrior. His body was covered in tattoos, from head to toe, and I had to wonder how many battles he'd fought, how many enemies he bested. His skills with a spear or a club might've been supreme, better than any recreational athlete today - his life depended on such a skill. I told him to brace for the needle and he laughed a strong, deep, hearty laugh, telling me that he'd been pricked a few times before. Looking at his impressive history inked on his skin, I realized he was probably right about that. The men, women, and children each got their prick in their own turn. Some of the kids, yet lacking their marks, were told it would be practice for when they, too, could be tattooed from head to toe.

The smiling children waved us goodbye as they, and we, retreated back into the jungle. They went back to their primitive lives in savage conditions, while we went on to the next such village where the scene repeated itself. The old warrior, best of the village so they say, the smiling children, and a final goodbye. Again and again. This land and these people lost to time offer a beautiful insight to humanity in its raw state, and knowing we did our part to help them along with modern medicine is a feeling difficult to put to words.

My work at the medical school in Matuwahine has been one of the best, most genuine, most authentic, and most down-to-earth experiences in my life. It has fulfilled a spiritual hole I had, and I can't recommend it enough. You will find yourself immersed and surrounded by humanity at its rawest, its most prime, a rich and vibrant culture that you can take part in, and every hour you work, every cent you give, goes to help these people. The Euclean University is an underrated academic gem, and I'm glad to put the message out there to recruit more people to this wonderful establishment.

UPDATE: 15/1/20 12:03: It is confirmed by King's College Hospital in Alestrand that the PM has again suffered a heart attack, though his condition has been upgraded from Severe to Fair.

The Right Honorable Prime Minister Örjan Rehn has been hospitalized for what he described as "chest pains." Rehn's staff states that Rehn complained of them after a jog at his beach home while he was on vacation yesterday.

“Following medical evaluation and testing he was found to have a blockage in one artery and two stents were successfully inserted. The Prime Minister is in Recovery, and his vitals are satisfactory."

The PM Office is cancelling any scheduled events with Rehn until further notice, and the Office states that he will need ample time to recover.

When given chance to comment, friends and rivals alike voiced or tweeted their well wishes and encouragement.

"I've never seen a man with as much fight in him as Örjan" AV leader Matteo Nyholm wrote.

"Anyone who knows him knows how much a force he is." Tyra Brahe, Rehn's Deputy Party Chairwoman stated in an interview outside the office earlier today. "I am looking forward to working with him again as soon as possible."

Health issues have been a concern with Rehn following his recent heart attack last April, and there is speculation as whether or not this would be his second heart attack in the span of a year. Pushing back on concerns, Rehn released a health statement by his doctor, stating he was in "outstanding health for his age." Örjan Rehn is 83 years old.

CALDIA'S DIPLOMATIC STANDING IN THE WORLD HAS BEEN RESTORED BY THE MAC SUIBHNE GOVERNMENT

Image
Stiofán Mac Suibhne with Nazim al-Qutayni, Tsabara's acting president.

By Dónal Ó Cathasaigh

16 January 2020 at 11:40 a.m. EST

The government of Stiofán Mac Suibhne has been significant for many reasons. It has represented as seismic shift in Caldish politics, with the centre-left forming its first government after consecutive defeats spanning a period of 15 years. Mac Suibhne has already achieved major policy victories: the end of the flat-tax, new spending on social services, increased protections for workers, and the re-nationalization of the country's major rail services. His tenure also marks a major shift in Caldish foreign policy. After years of damage done by successive Liberty governments, our diplomatic standing in the world has been restored.

Nothing represents this success more than the ongoing intra-Tsabaran peace talks that began yesterday. After months of political violence and escalating tensions, rival factions in the world's third largest producer of oil have agreed to come to the negotiating table. This came at the invitation of Mac Suibhne last week following the worst day of violence in the conflict thus far. Key players have arrived in Spálgleann for the talks, including the nation's acting president, Nazim al-Qutayni. Prominent Atudite leaders and representatives of the the outspoken, highly influential Sheik Faizan Salah are also in attendance. The goal is to facilitate a dialogue that helps overcome the ethno-religious tensions that have gripped the nation. Mac Suibhne is also personally facilitating parallel talks with Zorasani officials in an effort to deescalate tensions between the UZIR and the Euclean Community, fueled by the right-wing, hawkish governments in Estmere and Werania.

This is a major victory for Caldia, a nation whose diplomatic credibility was eroded both former taoiseachs O'Reilly and Casarnach. Their tenures were devastating for our standing in the world. O'Reilly opted to abandon Caldia's long-standing policy of neutrality, taking sides in conflicts and weakening our position as an unbiased, credible facilitator. Nothing was more disastrous for the nation's diplomatic reputation than the Pietramontecorvino Incident. Despite his seemingly strong convictions, the issuing of false passports, the misuse of a diplomatic bag, and the attempt to extract senior politicians amid trial obliterated our standing. This disastrous operation forced governments to look at Caldia in a new way. No longer we were a distinguished diplomatic power, but a rogue actor conducting highly secret missions outside of the law.

Things only grew worse under the volatile diplomacy of Casarnach. His tenure has foreign minister did enough damage to our standing, with his crass attitude and bullish approach. With Walker at the helm his impacted was limited, but once the most undiplomatic diplomat in Euclea takes up the reins of governance problems appear. Casarnach sought out conflict with the Euclean Commission, actively avoided international engagements, and picked the most uninterested and uninteresting candidate possible to serve as the nation's chief diplomat. Once his bid-rigging scandal took him out, our diplomatic reputation was further eroded in the aftermath of revelations that her colluded with the Etrurian ruling party to sabotage O'Reilly's extraction mission. In a quid pro quo deal that shocked the nation, Casarnach would order his ministers to stonewall the visa applications for anti-Tribune Etrurian academics relocating to Caldia if the Etrurian government took out O'Reilly. They happily obliged.

With O'Reilly in the private sector and Casarnach in jail, we have seen what real diplomacy looks like once again. As tensions flared this summer between Estmere and Zorasan, Mac Suibhne's government was a consistent voice of reason. At the Community of Nations, his diplomats refused to back Estmere in a resolution that would have condemned them for violating Zorasani territorial waters. As international maritime law was undermined globally, Mac Suibhne and his government worked with like-minded world leaders to ensure international accords were upheld. Within the EC itself, Mac Suibhne has been a vocal advocate for the deescalation of tensions with Xiaodong and Zorasan. He has assembled a bloc of small member-states that seek diplomatic solutions, not military intervention.

His conventional approach to foreign policy is a breath of fresh air. Such policies were sorely missed under the most recent Liberty governments.

NEW CONSTITUTION PROMULGATED, ELECTIONS SCHEDULED
Mambo Munashe Ngonidzashe officially publishes Rwizikuru's new constitution, schedules elections for 3 April
Image

Gondo Chikwava | 17 JANUARY, 2020 14:43 | PORT FITZHUBERT, RWIZIKURU

After months of work on drafting a new constitution for the Kingdom of Rwizikuru, the product of the constitutional convention was finally promulgated by His Most Faithful Majesty, Mambo Munashe Ngonidzashe today, thereby ending nearly six decades of absolute rule by the Mambo of the Kingdom of Rwizikuru, and the restoration of democracy.

Munashe Ngonidzashe said that "after four months of hard work by the constitutional convention, we have finally produced a new document that shall supplant the Basic Law, which for nearly six decades has hindered our country's development, and has denied my loyal subjects the right to have a say in how Rwizikuru is run."

"The new constitution has taken the best of our Bahian traditions, and the best of Euclean traditions, while learning from the mistakes that previous Rwizikuran governments have made over the preceding decades," the Mambo continued. "It adopts a democracy, while ensuring that the Euclean influences of political parties do not take hold here. It adopts a constitutional monarchy where I will have very little power. And it will ensure that we will be able to restructure ourselves so that we will not need to restructure our economy once again."

"The constitution shall take effect immediately, and elections will be held for the new National Assembly on the third of April for all one hundred members of the new National Assembly," the Mambo said. "After they select a Mutungamiri, then from this point on, I shall no longer perform an active role in shaping policies, but instead take on a role of statesman."

More as the story develops.

BREAKING: NUMEROUS MAZARS ATTACKED ACROSS EASTERN TSABARA.

Image
Police and security forces have been on 'high alert' since reports of the first of the incidents.
Qaa, Bedjene Province - Sounds of gunfire have erupted and echoed across numerous locations in Qaa, mirroring a potential situation reminiscent of the deadly Yeruham Attacks just last month. Originally circulating on social media, the gunfire has been localised to four key areas: three of the city's mazars and the famed 'Open Market', near the city centre.

Police and security forces have informed the public to "steer clear from these areas", adding to "stay indoors if possible." They have warned of a "highly organised and concentrated attack", and that it had the potential to also become a "mass casualty incident" if individuals tried to enter the cordoned off areas.

Eyewitnesses who spoke to reporters and police have described the attackers indiscriminately firing into the market as people purchased their foodstuffs. Onlookers at the Blue Mazar in northern Qaa, the largest in the city, have described what was the "use of a car" to "slam through the heavy doors" of the place of worship. Conflicting reports have indicated that either that the vehicle was rigged to explode, or that gunmen emerged from the vehicle and proceeded to open fire on the worshippers. Similar incidents have been described and circulated on twitter and facebook, with fears of improvised incendiary devices as well as IEDs.

However, the attack that have been reported are not constrained to the city of Qaa. Confirmed reports have circulated that in the city of Bayadha in the Trifaoui Province has also seen places of worship come under attack, in what police are calling "a multi-pronged attack." Similar tactics to that in Qaa are also being reported and seen in places like Hitteen and Beit Shajaf. The latter is the site of the now infamous killing of Surayah al'Bariqi. Unconfirmed allegations on the internet have suggested her grave has been defaced, but it is unknown if it is connected to the attack.

This harrowing news emerges as representative of the Interim Government and the forces of Sheik Salah meet and discuss in Caldia, at the invitation of the Caldish Taoiseach. It is the hope of the paper and all of Tsabara that this news does not impede the peace process.

Special Edition | 'Mazar Attacks': Nation recoils from second horrific terrorist attack in less than a month.

Image
A mother flees from the scene of the Blue Mazar attack
Qaa, Bedjene Province - This morning's devastating, coordinated attacks across major metropolitan centres in central and eastern Tsabara, have seen a total of 249 dead and over 350 injured, the government has confirmed. An unknown amount of assailants spread out across four Badawiyan and Irfanic majority cities stormed no less than 7 mazars, of which three were in Qaa. Also attacked were historic markets - notably, the famed Open Market of Qaa -, prayer schools and the former known residence of Sheik Salah. Concurrent to these heinous acts came a defacing of private property, including numerous restaurants and cafes, as well as the vandalising of the grave of Surayah al'Bariqi, the 18 year old girl who died in the Qalhat protests.

These devastating and evil attacks come less than a month after the now infamous 'Yeruham Attack'. After the attack that saw 197 dead and over 300 injured, fears circulated of a retaliatory attack conducted by Atudite extremists. The government has announced that it is already undergoing investigations into the attacks, particularly the cooperation and coordination they had, as well as a campaign to 'rid Tsabara' of the terrorist group known as the 'Lions of the Homeland', who have claimed responsibility for the attacks.

A campaign of terror.
It was said the 28th of December of 2019 would be a day "that lived in infamy." Nazim al'Qutyani described it as an "attack on the whole nation" whose "perpetrators would be brought to justice." The world watched with a baited breath as the accounts of the casualties came streaming in, and the 'world prayed for Yeruham.' We spoke of the inconceivability of the evil of the attack, and how such indiscriminate and sectarian violence was completely and totally unjustified.

So shocking and devastating where the Yeruham Attacks that the interim-government of Nazim al'Qutayni and the hardliners of Sheik Salah, who have been at odds since September of 2019, agreed to mediated talks in Caldia. The entire scenario was reminiscent of the "in times of peace, prepare for war", inverted on its head. The factions who were, in times of war (if not militarily, politically and ideologically), preparing for peace.

Today was a day that began like any other. As the citizens of Yeruham had conducted their daily lives in observance with joyous celebrations of Hanukkah or Sotirian Nativity, so to did the citizens of Qaa, Hitteen, Beit Shajaf and Qalhat. At precisely midday, as many were observing the Salat al-zuhr and praying within their mazars, seven coordinated attacks throughout these cities were executed. In Qaa the world famous Blue Mazar was the first to report casualties, with witnesses saying they saw a reinforced vehicle ram through its wooden doors. Gunmen, at least six, exited the vehicle and began to open fire on those praying. One, it is said, guarded the door and began firing on civilians who neared his own 'whimsically determined zone of control.' 43 people were killed and 61 were injured in and outside the mazar and in the concurrent attacks at the mazars of ibn Ziyad and ibn Nusayr. Collectively, at these places, a further 59 people died and 103 were injured.

Still within Qaa, and reported to have occurred 'a minute passed midday', masked and armed gunmen opened fire on the famous 'Open Market' of Qaa, a large public space for the selling of wares, foodstuffs and clothing.

"It was terrible and I have never been so terrified," Bashar al-Assad, a doctor in Qaa's largest hospital, told us. "I had come to the market to pay a surprise visit to my son, who was here. Out of the corner of my eye I swear to you I saw a masked man emerge from a vehicle. My instinct told me to duck and run. And I did, beneath the stall of a fruit-seller, as the firing began. This was pure evil!" 82 people died in this horrific attack that Mr. al'Assad survived, and an untold number -- but estimates have said over 120 -- were injured. Local hospitals, to which Mr. al-Assad quickly returned, were experiencing an 'apocalyptic overload.'

Others, like al-Assad, tell similar stories. Of losing loved ones in the horrific exchange that took place at the Open Market, before police arrived and drove off the killers. Two of them had been killed, but an unknown amount had escaped. Their vehicle however was recovered, with numerous pieces of munitions and weaponry.

Within the hour, four more attacks had been conducted across Hitteen, Qalhat and Beit Shajaf. Whilst many of these places had some time to prepare, and thus the casualty count was lower, 65 people still lost their lives in these locations. A further 112, bringing the total to 397, were also injured.

Talks in Turmoil
Unconfirmed reports have indicated that the individuals representing Sheik Salah left the negotiations following the news of the attack, only to return to watch the horror unfold alongside the interim government and the Caldish mediators.

It has been speculated that the attacks have thrown a spanner in the works of the peace talks, as either side is rumoured to be blaming the other, their progress towards peace a distant memory.

Tweeting from Caldia, Nazim al'Qutayni, Aryeh Kahlon and Serge Bélanger expressed their condolences to those who were fighting for their lives and had lost young ones. Reiterating many of the same points made in the wake of the Yeruham attacks, each called for unity amongst the people as division was the goal of the 'Lions' as it is for 'Al-isbah.'

Sheik Salah, and his representatives, have yet to make any comment.

However, leaks in the Caldish press have circulated that both the government representatives and Salah's representatives have departed from the talks today almost four hours ahead of schedule. A spokesperson for the Tsabaran government stated that "both representative groups need time for reflection and mourning." It is expected, they say, that the talks will resume tomorrow. Addressing the concerns of the public, the interim president insisted that "as long as we can achieve peace here, it is a step forward in uniting the nation." Interim-Premier Aslan Ocalan visited Qaa, to the cheers of its people, as he denounced the "Atudite extremism exposed by the traitorous Lions of the Homeland." He furthered the call to "fight extremism and discrimination in all its forms."

'The Lion Has Bared Its Teeth'
Across twitter and facebook a video of El'azar ben-Ya'ir has become viral. In it, he decries the attacks on Yeruham and declares this to be a "masterfully executed vengeance for the 197 martyrs of the city of Yeruham." Adorned in military garb and sat on a simple stool, the leader of the Lions of the Homeland cruelly and meticulously described the incidents and boiling resentment within 'sections of the Atudite people' who had had 'enough.'

Ten minutes of rhetoric and inflammatory and racist commentary concluded with a call to arms:

"I call upon all the Atudites in Tsabara, that this is your moment. The interim government has failed, its people have died in two attacks of unprecedented scale. The hardliners, puppets pulled from Zorasan, dance to a tune of suppression and oppression. It is time to fight, for the very homes and lives you have built are under threat. But my warnings and words also extend to our Cousins of the Cross, who were also maliciously attacked on the 28th of December. We have not harmed you, nor will we ever, for our bond is strong."

The Federalist urges all of its readers to remain calm in this period of mourning, Tsabara is indeed hurting but it is up to the people to nurse her to health. The time of unity comes now more than ever, and listening to the extremists will only devolve the situation further. All we can hope for now is the mediation of peace within Caldia.

Opinion: Allaire's policy of encirclement could soon see Satucin encircled

Image
Satucin's foreign policy demands control of the Arucian
Gatôn, Anniane - In many ways Gaullica and Satucin are reflections of one another, though given their shared history that is a surprise to few. Both consider themselves to be the centres of blocs, believe that they occupy a pre-eminent position in their region, and constantly strive to improve said position. Where the mirror cracks, however, is their success in doing so. Gaullica has accepted that she must work and compromise with the other members of the EC, even in ways she might not like, whereas Satucin faces no such constraints. Without an Estmere or Werania to humble her ambitions, Satucin is set upon a power-trip that can only end in disaster.

To understand Satucin's precarious position in 2020, we must take a trip in time back 65 years, to 1955 and the start of the Dumont era. Basile Dumont came to power in a Satucin which had been wracked by domestic crises for the past 20 years. The scars of the Great War had never truly healed, much less faded away, though by now the toxic influence of Masson over the NUP had begun to disintegrate.

Dumont was of the old aristocracy, an ultra-Catholic Gaullophile, and was deeply distrustful of his country's functionalist past, and of the new wave of Euclean liberalism. While his disastrous domestic legacy would be that of the strongman, his foreign policy would in his time bear fruit as the AFDC came to dominate the Arucian.

His leadership style was unorthodox, allowing the leaders of the other AFDC states to dominate aspects of the organisation, and even pushing for the smaller states to be the locations of the various AFDC hubs and summits. He ensured that every state within the AFDC had good, friendly, and most importantly, reliable relations with Satucin. For Dumont the bloc was an economical extension of Satucin, a shovel to fuel its growing economy, for Allaire, however, it is political, a sword to be waved about.

Allaire's grasp over Satucin is strong, but recent events have revealed his shaky understanding of Dumont's strategy. His unilateral (and likely illegal) decision to close the Arucian straits to Chervolesian shipping, and soon after any shipping intended for Chervolesia, caused a great deal of alarm. No AFDC states had been consulted, and an Eldmarkian ship was even temporarily seized before being rerouted back home. The AFDC states did not voice their concerns, Chervolesia was the enemy after all. It was lucky for Allaire that Chervolesia eventually 'capitulated' on the Mistral issue, just as the economic impact of reduced shipping was just beginning to hit the AFDC, and concerns about his actions mounting. His deal with Chervolesia was not without its detractors from AFDC hardliners, however.

Allaire's popularity within Satucin is soaring, whereas his standing amongst the leaders of the AFDC has fallen dramatically. For Allaire, however, this is a non-issue. Satucin's dominance economically and population-wise is to him a guarantee that no matter how much they detest him, they will always need him.

Allaire now looks for opportunities to expand the AFDC, and complete his encirclement of the 'Northern States'. The AFDC's involvement in the civil war in Marirana has been light, providing only token assistance to the National Council, mainly focusing upon combating the Chervolesian-supported Mariranan Committee for National Liberation, which it has labelled a terrorist organisation. Here they are hedging their bets, attempting to ensure that the last piece of the Arucian puzzle falls into place.

The recent attempt by Chervolesia to expand its influence in the Lumine has also drawn Allaire's attention back to an old claim left to the dust after the ignominious end of Toutain's premiership in 1988. It is the world's worst kept secret that Satucin desires the Îles des Saintes, based upon a claim that the Gaullican government of 1936 rigged the plebiscite which saw them choose to remain with Gaullica. Chervolesia also desires the islands, hence why their actions in the Lumine rang alarm bells in both Gatôn and Verlois. It remains to be seen if Allaire will attempt to pressure Gaullica into holding a referendum, or if he will be buoyed by his newfound success into attempting something disastrously drastic.

Chervolesia's recent missile tests have unnerved Satucin's leadership, and those of other AFDC states. Allaire must realise that Satucin cannot take on Chervolesia alone, that he must depend upon the support of his bloc and Gaullica to complete his encirclement. If he continues his current path, he may find Marirana falling into 'enemy' hands, and the AFDC members switching their allegiance to Nuxica if offered a better deal. Encircled and alone, Satucin may once again feel the biting isolation of the early months of 1935.

If Satucin still seeks to be considered the 'Gaullica of the East', then she must take a hard look at Gaullica's position within the EC and Euclea, and make a choice: compromise then co-operation, or imperialism then isolation.

Maljubav Motor Show is all about going green

Postby Minilov » Sun Jan 19, 2020 9:51 am

38th Maljubav Motor Show is all about going green

MALJUBAV, Minilov — Have you got a new car or motorcycle in mind? Are you on the lookout for new mobility solutions? Or are you just looking for a fantastic experience and an opportunity to let your imagination run wild? Then you need to pay a visit to the 38th edition of the 2020 Maljubav Motor Show, the expo for cars, motorcycles and new mobility options.

Car constructors are putting the final touches to their displays at this year’s Maljubav Motor Show. Good deals are on offer and everybody interested in cars wants a ticket. This year the car sector will try to entice visitors to purchase an electric or a hybrid vehicle. Electric vehicles are on the rise, but petrol and diesel will remain on the market for decades to come. Hybrid cars combine a combustion engine with an electric drive. Driving on gas is cheap, but right now the distribution network is limited, and the gas tank's installation is expensive.

The question everyone wants an answer to is whether petrol and diesel combustion engines are making a quick exit from the street scene. Not at all. After all, cars generally have a long life. In Minilov, that life is more than 27 years. So, it will be quite some time before the entire fleet is electric (or runs on a different, emission-free technology).

The 38th edition is open to the public from January 19th to 31st. About 40 electric cars are displayed at the "Green Cars" salon during the motor show. Last year's edition drew draw some 350.000 visitors.
