Prime Minister To Visit Elerrina Over STIP Trade Deal
12 November-Last Updated 18:00 ACST-For facts and truth in a dangerous world

THE PRIME MINISTER Roger Lucas will make his first foreign visit to the Empire of Elerrina to discuss the Southern Trade Initiative Pact, a series of major free trade deals signed between Afalia and Elerrina in the mid twentieth century. The visit, unplanned at the beginning of Mr Lucas' premiership, comes after the Emperor of Elerrina suggested that the set of trade deals were 'un-wanted' and indicated he would move to scrap or radically overhaul the deals which have been a bedrock of Afalia-Elerrina economic and foreign relations for decades. Mr Lucas is set to meet the Emperor to discuss the trade deals which have wide support across Afalia, including from the Prime Minister himself who told journalists on Sunday that 'the STIP deals are an essential element of Afalia's foreign relations. Long before we ever thought of joining the Belisarian Community the STIP deals gave us access to a massive regional market and has benefitted Afalians enormously.'

The talks come after His Imperial Majesty Tindómon, controversially invoked Article 2 of the country's Winge Convention, an article that allowed the Emperor to not appoint a Prime Minister and instead take over executive functions as a dual head of state and head of government. Tindómon's decision made him the first Emperor of Elerrina in over two hundred years to take control in this manner. Commentators and analysts have suggested that much of Tindómon's decisions will likely reflect conservative political elements within the Empire who have tended to be critical of the trade deals and embraced isolationist tendencies.

Clarifying his opposition to any changes to the STIP deals a press statement from Fairfax House today confirmed that, 'The Prime Minister and all members of the Conservative Party support the STIP deals as they now stand. We believe they are enormously beneficial to both Afalian citizens and Elerrina and the Prime Minister looks forward to making this point in a friendly and productive manner with His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor, and his honourable assistants and advisors. Afalia and Elerrina have enjoyed warm relations for many decades and the Prime Minister looks forward to continuing to strengthen and build this relationship to an even greater strength.'

Mr Lucas has come under fire from some members of his own party as well as the opposition Liberals for what they have described as 'hypocrisy' over his attitude towards the STIP free trade deals. Earlier this week Mr Lucas told MPs in the Commons that his office was continuing to work at 're-assessing Afalia's 2000 free trade deal with the Belisarian Community', another indication that the Prime Minister, despite opposition from a large portion of his own party, intends to move towards re-negotiation or withdrawal from the deal. Speaking to journalists at an informal Q and A this morning the leader of the opposition and former Prime Minister Jessica Shaw told journalists she was surprised at Mr Lucas' policy, 'Obviously I'm pleased the Prime Minister intends to go to Elerrina and fight for the STIP deals but I must say I'm surprised he's so passionately in favour of this trade deal and so passionately suspicious of our, much bigger, deal with the Belisarian Community.

Reportedly, there had been discussions with the Blackdonian Palace over the Queen joining the Prime Minister in his visit but the recent birth of the Queen's daughter, Her Royal Highness Princess Lucia, made this impractical. Mr Lucas will be joined on the trip by the new foreign secretary Randolph Dummett, as well as the trade secretary Lisa Marsh.

Finance Minister Alessandro Alessandri resigns from cabinet
Sciarri government in disarray as party turns on Doge Giorgio Sciarri
Lucca Zina
15 November 2017 | Poveglia, Fabria-Poveglia

Poveglia, Fabria-Poveglia — Finance Minister Alessandro Alessandri has resigned from his cabinet position after a heated cabinet meeting this morning. At 11.32am Alessandri tendered his resignation to the Doge, Giorgio Sciarri, followed ten minutes later with the letter arriving at the Apostolic Palace. Both the Doge and His Holiness have accepted his resignation, which has been met with shock by his party colleagues. Speaking to TVN News he said, “I am incapable of executing the responsibilities of my office, the government is without focus and leadership, I pray the government gets a grip” he said.

Tensions between Doge Sciarri and Finance Minister Alessandri have been worsening since the Doge’s failure to gain permission for a snap election in June. The Doge’s absence from the public light has further alienated him from other key groups in the ruling Justice and Freedom Party (PLG).

Alessandro Alessandri quickly became a source of hope for renewal, with many members calling on him to develop brave economic reforms. However, as he revealed after his resignation, he was unable to gain agreement from the cabinet, blaming the Doge’s stubborn rejection of all proposals.

Prior to today’s tense cabinet meeting, the Finance Minister was forced to deny reports that he organised the open letter being circulated around the PLG consistory group calling on the Doge to resign. It apparently has around 36 signatures, there are 166 PLG CMs.

According to insider sources, the Doge questioned Alessandri over the rumours, to which he denied them as “lies.” The source further state that the Doge then began to place blame for the government’s woes on the Finance Ministry. The Doge reportedly said, “you have utterly failed to control your ministry, you’re an embarrassment to this government and the party.” Alessandri then reportedly got up and left the room.

After ten minutes, Alessandri returned with a hastily written resignation letter, a copy was made and sent to the Council of Thirteen and the Vatican. Doge Sciarri accepted it on the spot according to the same inside source, the rest of the cabinet sat in silence.

An unwelcomed shattering blow - by Simone Rossi

The resignation of Alessandro Alessandri has taken many by surprise, though in a tense standoff with the embattled Doge, no one expected the Finance Minister of five years to resign. He’s popular among business leaders and strikes a common touch with voters, though he is at odds with several of the Tredici, especially over his efforts for increases in property value tax.

But the blow comes as the Doge’s authority wanes, he can ill-afford a popular political beast abandoning him, or perhaps returning to the backbenches to make life worse. The crux of the resignation comes that the resignation only further dampen public support for the Sciarri government, though it remains that the party is more popular than the leader – hence the resignation may just tip the party against him.

If Alessandri calls out his colleagues to show bravery, his resignation may not be the last.

News quickly spread of the resignation, being caught by reporters, Alessandri broke silence and explained is decision.

“Since June, sadly, I have been unable to keep momentum. Frankly, I’ve been denied the basic opportunity to fulfil my responsibilities as Finance Minister. All suggestions of policy and reform have been rejected by the Doge or at least enough colleagues in cabinet.

“Since the humiliation in failing to get a snap election from the Holy Father and Council of Thirteen, we have seen nothing. The Doge has become utterly distracted, insular and incapable, truth be told, of leading this government” he said.

Asked if his suggestions for tax reform, a PLG election promise in 2015 was rejected, he confirmed that to be the case, “sadly yes. He [Giorgio Sciarri] would not allow it, claiming we lacked the support of the General Consistory, which isn’t the case” he replied.

Alessandri’s comments justifying his resignation have been met with mixed responses from other members of the government. Deputy Foreign Minister, Annalisa Salvini praised him telling reporters outside the Casa dell’Unificazione, “I think Alessandro was truly brave to resign. I think he did it because he truly believes in country over party, we can’t go on like this”, her comments have already led to speculation she may too resign.
Prominent backbencher and Sciarri ally, Pietro Sirola denounced the resignation saying, “Alessandro has always been too ambitious, self-centred and clearly vindictive. At a time when we should be rallying to meet off the extremist parties, we are allowing one man to sow chaos. Alessandro is unforgiveable” he told Radio 1.

Doge Sciarri’s office has so far refused to comment.

Petersville man disappears, religious fundamentalist group blamed by public
The Kingdom of the Heavens church is in the news after the disappearance of a journalist

Sometime three weeks ago, Nate Arlen went missing. The journalist hasn't been heard from since, and the police department of his city, Petersville, has officially added him to the list of missing people. Because of the circumstances surrounding his disappearance, Arlen's case is even being investigated by national level authorities, who believe that the case could be a matter of national security, not one about a man who went to work one day and never came home. Furthermore, the strange case of Nate Arlen is getting the country talking about something that's a sore subject for New Havre: religion, and religious freedom. The country has always stood for freedom of religion, but when extremist groups appear and use religion as their basis, should they be extended the same protection? That question was always in the back of the mind of Havrecois citizens, but now, it's moved to the front pages of the news.

Nate Arlen's disappearance didn't happen randomly. His newspaper, the Fairmont Times, was looking into the secrets of the fundamentalist church known as the Kingdom of the Heavens. With a membership of about five million worldwide, the group began in Northwestern New Havre, which is still where their largest base of support is located. However, their hardline Christian doctrine has drawn criticism from both moderate Christians and atheists, as well as anti-cult groups. Members of the church limit their contact with the outside world as much as possible, and many of them drop everything to move to church run communes. The largest of these is the Herlech Commune, which is located in the middle of the Northwestern woods, seventy five miles to the northwest of Rockville.

The church's practices include harsh punishments for violations of the church's codes, and strict control of the lives of those who live in the communes. Members frequently join with different expectations, before watching the church control over their lives get stricter and stricter over time. However, Nate Arlen wasn't at the Herlech Commune to investigate that. His investigation, and that of the Fairmont Times, was to see if the Kingdom of the Heavens is indeed linked to Christian terrorism in New Havre and abroad. The Northwest rebel movement often has a strong Christian overtone to it, because of the demographics of the region, and it's long been speculated that the Kingdom may be tied to sponsoring some of the more extreme groups.

Arlen arrived at the Herlech Commune under a false identity that was created to give him access to the organization. Immediately afterwards, the Fairmont Times lost contact with him, and the Times informant on the inside of the organization reported that Arlen was missing and nowhere to be found at the Commune. His disappearance is not the first one of its kind. At least four others have disappeared in the past while investigating the Kingdom of the Heavens, none of whom have been found. This time, because of the high profile nature of the Fairmont Times, it became a major story. The Havrecois Ministry of Intelligence has been alerted to the situation, and is conducting their own investigation into the church and into the case of Arlen. Every newspaper in the country has picked the story up.

It means bad things may be in store for the church. Previously, they were able to escape the effects of their shady history because of their relatively small size compared to mainstream religions, and because of not going after high profile targets. This time, however, their wrongdoing should reach the public, regardless of whether the case of Arlen is figured out or not. The Kingdom of the Heavens has already released a statement denying any wrongdoing and claiming to not know who Arlen is, but with the HMI conducing their own investigation into the matter, time will tell whether their statement is genuine or not.

Viktoria von Carstein: on-route to become the most powerful First Citizen for decades
As the granddaughter of a Senate Father rises, so too does her rival.
Peter Kaufmann
23.11.17 | Rahden, Liothidian Senatorial Republic

Image
First Citizen Von Carstein speaking to students in Schraderstädt.

Rahden, Liothidia, Liothidian Senatorial Republic —Viktoria von Carstein is fast becoming the most powerful First Citizen since Reinhard von Hechenreyt according to several prominent Senators. The daughter of Georg von Carstein, a popular First Citizen in his own right, Viktoria von Carstein has amassed the support of numerous camarillas, including the Republican Flame, which has all but guaranteed her the possibility of being re-elected into the premiership in the future. She is reportedly seeking Senate approval to grant her “extraordinary powers” over foreign and military policy.

Born on April 5th 1963, to Georg and Augusta von Carstein, Viktoria is the eldest of three children, her two brothers also sitting in the Senate. She very quickly took up interest in politics according to her family’s official biographer and was a keen student of her family’s history. Her grandfather, Wilhelm Jakob von Carstein was one of the three original revolutionary leaders, alongside Paulus von Hechenreyt and Gustav Hohenstein; having a Senate Father as a relative has aided her since.

In 1989 she graduated with a PhD in Political Studies from the Schraderstädt College of Social Studies. She worked as an office assistant to Senator Claudia Hauptman from 1989 to 1994 before being elected as the Senator for Talheim Ost, she held the seat for three years, before resigning to raise her first child.

In 2002 she returned to the senate for Voraussicht See, a wealthy suburb of Rahden. She was re-elected in 2010 securing her position in the Senate until 2018. From 2003 onward she rapidly climbed the ladder of politics, holding seats on the Senatorial Committee for Foreign Affairs, the Senatorial Committee for Justice and the Senatorial Committee for Ethical Standards. In 2006 she became chairperson of the SCES, in which she launched one of the most focused and consequential investigations into the treasury, defence ministry and the senate. In the course of the six-month investigation, numerous counts of inappropriate behaviour, corruption and rule-breaking was discovered. She led the Committee in proscribing and expelling eight Senators.

In 2008 she was elected Foreign Minister by the Senate under First Citizen Jesper Sørensen, which she held for four years, before voluntarily stepping down in 2012. During her tenure, she sought closer trade relations with the Oxidentale and the Belisarian Community, drawing the ire of the Republican Flame and Custodian Camarillas.

Despite much rumour throughout 2013, she did not declare herself a candidate for Speaker of the Senate, instead declaring her support for Tadeusz Żurek, who has remained a close ally of hers since. In 2014 she successfully led an expulsion vote against Senator Friedrich Mueller after he made continuous visits to Latium and Ghant in “hope of securing lasting peace between the Republic and the Monarchies”, her success gained her popularity both inside the Senate and out across the country, becoming known as the “Iron Lady” by some circles.

In 2015 she scored her biggest success by becoming the de-facto leader of the Renaissance Camarilla, after being declared successor by long-time leader, Rudolf Friedmann. This all-but secured her candidacy for First Citizen in 2016 with Sørensen’s term ending.

In 2016, she won the election, being elected First Citizen with 404-286 votes. Immediately upon entering office she announced numerous reforms to Senate procedures, including the introduction of time-limits on Committee hearings and debate. This was followed by reforms to Senate rules and regulations that strengthened defence against what she called, “monarchist appeasement”, which eased the means of proscribing and censuring Senators who proposed détente with the monarchist world. The success of that reform gained her the much-needed support of the Republican Flame Camarilla.

Close ally of Von Carstein, Senator Erich Till described her as a “masterful player of the game, knowledgeable of the rules and players, she’s used the senate’s procedure to secure her position unlike any other in recent memory. Her constant request for powers and responsibilities for a duration, rather than just acting as if she has it has in turn earned her further support from the Senate. She’s becoming the most powerful through politeness.”

Indeed, her most recent “request” has been for the authority to direct the Continuing Committee toward designing and proposing legislation geared toward economic reform. Under the Liothidian system, the nominal executive in the form of herself and the Continuing Committee cannot produce legislation, unless granted by the Senate.

She reportedly seeks to expand the role of in-work training and granting major companies, government subsidies toward training young people in high-productivity manufacturing and IT. She also seeks to maintain the current system of workers-on-boards in face of opposition from the New Enterprise Camarilla.

The Senate granted her the authority to do so for three years, which will be open to renewal in 2019. But now, she seeks the same powers but for foreign policy.

Speaking at her former unviersty in Schraderstädt, she said, “I do not ask for such powers for power sake, never should any Senator of the Republic do so. I do so, because Liothidia now, must look to Belisaria and see the degradation and decline brought about by blood-politics and the tyranny of the womb. We must re-double our efforts to present popular sovereignty and the people power to the repressed masses of Belisaria.”

According to close allies, she seeks to expand Liothidia’s media’s reach and talents, while at the same time allowing for the Senate to reach out to like-minded political movements across Belisaria.

To sources from within the Senate, she will most certainly gain those powers. But, for all her strength and position, she is not without opponents. One individual believed to be pushing her towards a more confrontational position is that of Auxilia Kallenbach, the leader of the Republican Flame Camarilla. Kallenbach in recent months has surged in popular polls, with her no-holds-barred rhetoric and her fervent revolutionary hardline.

Last week Kallenbach said, “We must now waste time having prissy debates about the merits of liberty and republicanism, the world can see it in the Fatherland. We must be tearing down their false institutions and tear apart their [Belisarian] Community, for it masks their corruption.”

Eager to blunt Kallenbach’s rise, Von Carstein has moved to match her position through procedure. Though, that in turn may well cause enemies in her own Camarilla to emerge out of the woodwork. But for now, the Iron Lady is swiftly becoming the most powerful First Citizen for decades.

Queen Appoints New Catapan; du Caeseti Trial Begins
Ostracine, Sydalon
By: Sophia Ciantar (@SCiantar_dn)

Ostracine: Disgraced former Catapan of the Order of the Holy Spear Adeodatus du Caeseti’s trial began yesterday morning, as he stands accused of 7 counts of severe sexual misconduct, 3 counts of abuse of power, and 1 count for breaking his holy vow of celibacy. du Caeseti appeared in court after having been detained at a regional penitentiary that has become famous for housing religious dissents. He pled not guilty to all counts, following with the presentation of the Crown’s case which includes many of the victims who first alerted the press of du Caeseti’s deviancy.

While the trial commenced in Ostracine, members of the holy order in Petra continued to denounce the Queen for a “severe abuse of power” for moving Royal troops into the county. Claims of “fake news” have also followed from members of the order and even protesters in Ostracine since du Caeseti’s removal. Since Royal troops entered Petra, at least 50 members, mostly among du Caeseti’s former administrative office, of the Order have been arrested for violation of lese majeste laws, sexual impropriety, and obstruction of justice. The entrance of Royal troops into the county has been met with relative peace and restraint thus far, as the Queen announced that “all good, and truly faithful citizens have nothing to fear,” adding that troops would only remain in the area to ensure that du Caeseti’s “fellow criminals” were caught, and had “no intentions to impact the daily lives of the citizenry.”

And finally, in a Royal press conference this morning, Queen Melisende announced the appointment of Eradi Kanmi as the next Catapan of the Order. Kanmi, whom hails from the county of Alalia, is the son of Jewish converts, and becomes the Order’s first leader of Aradian descent in over 200 years. He attended Pontifical Academy of Saint Cecelia in Fabria before returning to Sydalon and enlisting in the armed forces, taking the Order’s vows in 1995. Most recently he served as the Order’s governor of the district of Arvad, and has been considered among the conservative of sect of the Order, though has been thought to fallen out of favor following the death of Catapan Recared Athanagild, and du Caeseti’s subsequent tenure. In the appointment press conference, the Queen heralded Kanmi as a “true, and marvelous example” of what second generation converts can achieve once they turn to Christianity.

Koscian League for Unification stages largest march in decades
KLU greets numerous speakers as demands for Nekulaturnya to cede Koscian territory grows.

23.11.17 | Lachawa, Liothidian Senatorial Republic

Image
Over 60,000 people took part in the march which saw numerous senators speak.

Lachawa, Liothidia, Liothidian Senatorial Republic —Over 60,000 Koscian citizens marched in demand of “unification in the name of liberty”, in what is the largest march by the Koscian League for Unification (KLU). The march which took place in central Lachawa was led by several prominent Liothidian and Koscian Senators, with Senator Auxilia Kallenbach being a prominent speaker. Senator Tadeusz Orkan, leader of the Phoenix Club told the march, “liberation of our brothers and sisters in Nekulaturnya is a must, if not for our people, but the right they have to be free from the tyranny of the womb.” Orkan has announced his intention to issue a motion to the Senate declaring the Republic’s position to be in support of Koscian unification.

The march began at the Pomnik Republiki before travelling along Aleja Apostołów toward Jan Kovařík Square in central Lachawa. Along the route, the march chanted slogans from the Revolution, as well as slogans of the Phoenix Club. Through mobile loudspeakers, Senator Orkan said, “we are demanding an end to our division, we demand the freedom of all Koscia. We demand an end to our kith’s pain.”

Another prominent member of the Phoenix Club, Archbishop Emeritus Paulus Strasser to the marchers, “the flame of liberty burns brighter than ever here in Liothidia, you are the embers that light the kindling in Nekulaturnya, the flame that will be fuelled by the tyrants and kings of this world.”

Senator Orkan revealed his intentions to present a bill to the Senate in coming days, establishing the Republic’s desire to see the unification of all Koscians.

“I intend to present to the Senate a bill that shout to the world our Republic’s intention, to see all Koscians live in one nation, this nation, this Republic. I want Nekulaturnya to know that we are watching, we are waiting and that our patience is running thin. Return our people now” he said to loud cheers.

“There is no Belisarian Community this far north, there is no alliance, there is no family to protect you if you refuse our simple request. Dare refuse, and by God’s wrath you shall fear the very name Liothidia” he said to loud cheers again.

Despite immediate warnings by left-wing camarillas in the Senate, according to insider sources, the motion is likely to pass with the support of the Republican Flame, Renaissance and the Mountain camarillas. First Citizen von Carstein is also reportedly in support of the motion, which one insider claimed, “will see her use as a means of negotiation.”

However, this may be off-set by the Republican Flame Camarilla which was represented at the march by its de-facto leader, Auxillia Kallenbach.

When the march reached Jan Kovařík Square, she took to the podium to say, “our great fatherland and republic has been too reserved since the Revolution. After the loss of sons and daughters during the Revolutionary War against the monarchist terror in Vannois, we chose to retreat inwards, condemning millions of Belisarians to oppression and the deprivation of their rights.

“Our cause, one that Liothidians share with you, can be the end to this self-imposed cowardice. Through liberation of all Koscians under the boot of the Tsar, we can set in motion the liberation of all Belisarians and the achievement of world democracy, freedom and liberty” she said.

“Anyone who wants to negotiate, should be shot. Never do we negotiate with the enemies of progress, never do we negotiate with the enemies of freedom and justice. If they refuse, then we shall unleash heavenly firepower upon them” she concluded.

She also used the speech to denounce a group of senators reportedly preparing a report backing efforts to improve relations with the Belisarian Community, with the goal of a free-trade agreement.

“Who are these people? Who are these traitors to the cause? The Senate Fathers are spinning in their graves, that I can tell you for certain. If we are preserve our Republic, if we are to protect our children from seeping monarchism entering our fatherland, we must stop them now” she said to great applause.

There has been no comment by the Senatorial Committee for Foreign Affairs nor the office of the First Citizen.

TERROR IN TIKAL
Most of cabinet and half of parliament slain by massive bomb. Anarchy 'imminent'.

Image

Loweport, 2 December 2017

NOTE: This is a current event. Further live updates will follow.

The AVP and Associated Networks have reported that the entire front half of the Parliament Building in Tikal City has been demolished by a 'massive' terrorist bomb, which had been smuggled into the parliament's grounds hidden in a 4-tonne lorry, disguised as one of the vehicles carrying materiel for the refurbishment of the building's east wing.

Parliament was in session at the time the bomb was detonated. While no definitive and verifiable information has emerged, unconfirmed sources almost unanimously indicate that more than half of the island nation's parliamentarians, including most of the government front bench, have been killed. The victims include Edward Smoking Frog, the latest Premier of Tikal following the last general election in June.

So far, no group has come forward to admit responsibility for the terrorist incident.

As of 21:00 Loweport time, it seems that the highest ranking member of the Tikalese government to survive is the Minister for Education, The Right Honourable Laura Ramiro Kan.

A history of instablity

Tikal is most well known in the developed world for its tropical weather, white beaches and economical night life, making it an important destination for tourists from around the world. However, if one travels inland from the beach resorts, a different picture begins to emerge.

Tikal is a tiny island nation. Its location is roughly equidistant between Mutul, Belfras and Kustakana. It is roughly 439km2 in size and 250,000 in population. Hilly/misty in the interior, but densely populated along the coasts. Its economy once depended on sugar cane and coffee plantations but now is almost entirely geared towards tourism. In more secretive and sinister circles around the First World's financial centres, it also has a reputation for being a major tax haven for the rich and unscrupulous.

Archaeological records suggest that successive colonisation waves had been arriving in Tikal since ancient times, only to leave or to die out, almost certainly because of disease. 'Discovered' in the early-18th century by an Arthuristan merchant ship, it was swiftly developed into a plantation colony after the small native population 'disappeared' in due course. At first, indentured labour from Hibernia, Arthurista's Celtic dominion, was imported. Labour remained short, and slaves were imported from Mutul. Even after slavery was abolished in the early-19th century, Mutulese labourers were imported en masse as they were cheap and relatively adapted to tropical conditions.

Tikal became an independent state in 1957 following a referendum, although the Lord Protector of Arthurista remains the ceremonial head of state, represented locally by a Governor General.

Despite half a century's worth of equality initiatives and affirmative action, the Mayan population remained somewhat of an underclass. Hibernians still dominated the top positions in business and government, while the Mayan poor resided in large shanty towns on the outskirts of urban areas, working menial or minimum-waged service jobs in the tourist industry. Some still work on old-style plantations. There is, naturally, a significant degree of resentment against the socio-economic order. A particularly uneasy subgroup is the secularised/catholic Anglic-speaking or bilingual ethnic-Mayan middle class, which had developed significantly in size since independence and has now found in presence in most professions and offices previously the reserve of the Hibernians, constituting some 10-15% of the population. The tension between the Mayan middle and lower classes is particularly severe, probably more so than inter-ethnic hostility between the Mayans and the Hibernians.

Ethnic riots are uncommon, although the security forces had largely succeeded in keeping them away from tourist areas. There is also a significant ongoing low-level war between the security forces and drug cartels. This strain on the manpower of the security forces led to the development of the Defence Force Auxiliaries. Together with the cartels, these basically form ethnic and personal militias, the powerbase of many prominent figures in government, business, or indeed the underworld.

On 31 June 2017, the left-wing Tikal Workers' Party, under the leadership of, Edward Smoking Frog, a middle class Mayan but one who could appeal to the underclass, was elected Premier. He was elected on a platform of ethnic reconciliation, of the nation's classes and cultures uniting to build a better future. He also adopted a 'near-abroad' diplomatic re-orientation, reaching out and strenghtheing political and economic ties with nearby Norumbrian and Oxidentalean nations. An anonymous Foreign Office source indicates that his assassination would only exacerbate the already inflamed tension between the classes and ethnicities of the island.

The latest news reports also indicate that the slums have begun anew their cycle of riots. While security forces have always managed to keep these away from the major tourist areas, the 'decapitation' of the government may have an effect on the authorities' response.

Unconfirmed rumours have been circulating the internet, that barricades have been erected in the streets of shanty towns, weapons have been distributed and gangs have ethnic militia have taken to the streets. Whilst illegal, automatic weapons and even anti-tank munitions have flowed into Tikal following the end of the Eesti Civil War and Rietumimark War. This has contributed significantly to the security forces' increasing difficulties in dealing with the island's drug cartels and other organised crime groups. The deteriorating security situation had generated such concerns amongst the Hibernian community that they, too, had begun to form vigilante paramilitary groups over the past decade or so, the so-called 'Defence Force Auxiliaries'. In the event that the island spirals further into chaos and anarchy, it is likely that these heavily armed factions will have a significant role to play.

The Governor General

Caught in the middle is the Governor General, the 66-year old Sir David Beverley, who must take stock of the situation and decide what course of action to adopt. Optimally, he would work together with the surviving members of the parliament and cabinet in order to reconstitute a semblance of government. In the event of a full breakdown of the executive and legislative institutions of the countries, he may choose to exercise the reserve powers vested in the Shield by the island's constitution in order to immediately arrest the rapid tumble towards anarchy, whether by taking direct command of the Security Forces as the personal representative of the Shield or, in the most extreme case, call upon the assistance of His Highness's Armed Forces. The time may yet be premature, but this is an option which would likely be on his mind in the coming days as the situation develops further.

Official Address of His Holiness the Divine Ruler of the Realm to his loyal people

13.0.5.0.8 / 6 Mac / 5 Lamat

Make silence and hear the Thunder

To our subjects and from the bottom of our hearth, may today be a pleasant day and may be peace be upon you and your families.

It is however with regret that we have heard that our brothers in faith of the Free State of Tikal are knowing many grievances and have been wounded in their flesh and spirits. Their government has been victim of an outrageous attack by unknown forces who took the lives of more than half of their parliament and of their government. We hear that Edward Somking Frog, Prime Minister of the Tikalese people, is to be counted among these deaths.

We share the pain of the Tikalese and our prayers are with them in these time of darkness when they can no longer count on their government and on their leaders to guide them. It is our wish that the men behind this devastating crime are to be caught and judged without delays, following the laws and customs of Tikal, so justice can be restored.

But for now, there's no longer Peace and Stability in the Free State. The gods will not allow that and a new order will come from the ashes of the old, as it always does, but for now anarchy and chaos are threatening to take over the nation. We fully stand behind Sir David Beverley, Governor General of Tikal, and want him to know that he has a friend in our person. To him we offer our full support in this crisis, and he may ask for our help without fear or doubt, for it is our duty that the Tikalese people, our brothers, are protected against the illness and the dangers that are an unlawful society. We know it is a dark period of their history, but to the Tikaleses we say : do not fear.

For soon, there will be light.

Mays Chaac keep your soil watered, May Ah Mun make your harvests plentiful, May K'awiil breath a new life in the wombs of your women and Vucub Came spare you for many days still. Goodnight, our beloved subjetcs.

Dewedish National Party Split Threatens An Electoral Defeat

Pia Kjærsgaard (centre) walks out of Parliament with her supporters after resigning her positions

By Caroline Fisker

Published: Dec.4 2017

KRALIN, DEWEDEN - The political situation for Alexander Starl’s reelection campaign took a major hit today as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Pia Kjærsgaard resigned from both positions in the most theatric way during this morning's assembly of Parliament. Today’s events cast doubt whether Starl can successfully hold off the rising tide of young bucks of Erna Thorna - the leader of the reformed and increasing popular Liberal Party - along with radical ultranationalist Heidi Tovegaard and her National Front - who has begun to enjoy increasing a number of Dewedish Nationalist Party and with its coalition partners in the Christian Party and Progressive Justice Party defectors.

The events of today occurred during this morning's session of Parliament, in which Pia Kjærsgaard decided to make a surprising address to the legislative body. “I can no longer hold my tongue allow a fascist dictator cement his hold over the country I love with all my heart and soul,” Pia began to a hushed assembly. “For too long we have lived under the shadow of oppression and callous ruthlessness under the current administration - a hypocritic morass which cares little for the people of Deweden and more growing their own portfolio. One which claims to pursue a strong foreign policy, but flakes under pressure - who alleges that they care about the working woman and yet, does little to advance their interests - often working against them.

“Therefore, I shall no longer be apart of the current corrupt system that actively works against the common woman and seeks their exploitation...for no longer!” Kia said, before pulling out her DNP membership and burning it in front of the entirety of Parliament. “Earlier this very morning I formally had in my resignation as both Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health to Alexander Starl. From now on - I will work tirelessly to end the authoritarian rule of Starl and bring about a new era for the people of Deweden.” she proclaimed, before Pia and her’s supporters got up and left Parliament.

The Dewedish National Party split has been brewing for months according to most observers of Dewedish politics and is centred around Alexander Starl decision to run for a third term as Prime Minister rather than pass on the mantle to his deputy Prime Minister Pia Kjærsgaard as was expected when in March 2015, Alexander Starl announced he would not seek a third term as Prime Minister; clearing the way for Pia Kjærsgaard publicise that she would seek to become Prime Minister not long afterwards. Since Alexander Starl surprise announcement that he would seek a third term - the DNP has suffered numerous defections and losses in membership as Pia’s allies and supporters have left the DNP in protest over Starl’s decision and flocking over to Liberals and National Front - severely weakening Starl’s position.

This news of Pia desertion of the DNP is not a shock to sources close to Starl and Kjærsgaard, who say the relationship between the pair had deteriorated so badly, that they couldn’t stand to be in the same room as each other. While other reports indicated bitter arguments between the two over policy decision were being leaked to the press almost every week.

Pia and her supporters leaving the DNP couldn’t have come at a worse time for Starl, whose approval ratings have dipped to record lows and has been received increasing criticism from all sides of the political spectrum for his failure to properly address the ongoing crime wave being fueled by a narcotic epidemic and rising unemployment - especially amongst youth - and a worsening economy.

In fact, for months now Deweden has entered a period of pronounced economic decline as foreign investors, many from Ghant, have indefinitely postponed or ended their involvement in business ventures based in Deweden following the ongoing standoff over the status of occupied-South Deweden and the potential conflict it might cause. Indeed, the exodus of foreign capital has led many leading economists to warn that hundreds of millions of Dewedish rubles worth of economic activity to be at the centre of the country’s gradually unfolding economic crisis brewing just beneath the surface of the misleading growth emanating from petrol and other natural resources exports abroad.

The exodus of foreign investor’s money is believed by some foreign observers to have set the Starl’s pushing of the Dewedish Finance Ministry’s to diversify the economy, and stimulate the private sector and housing construction back by at least an estimated four to eight years. The situation for the Starl administration has been made worse by recent news from the Dewedish Central Bank, Deveriskbanke, forewarning that the potential losses to the country's GDP, investment spending, annual income, and business profits could hit “recession” levels by the end of the year.

Support for Starl’s has also plunged because of his daughter Saga’s now-infamous affair with then King Consort Robert of Demphor last summer and Starl’s reaction to the news; vigorously denying it existence and making anti-Gentry remarks, saying: “All these accusations against my daughter are slanderous lies being propagated by the Gentry owned-media machine to damage the reputation of me and my daughter.” His remarks triggered violent anti-Starl demonstrations and severely hurt his approval ratings during a time Ghant has been one of the leading nations in safeguarding Dewedish sovereignty.

With the election expected to be the closest in Dewedish history - with poll numbers pulling Starl only 2-3% ahead of Erna Thorna - well within the margin of error and only having a five percent lead over third-placed Tovegaard with Pia Kjærsgaard's backing - many pundits are expecting whoever Pia decides to support, could push them over the edge and snag the Premiership.

What a load of horse shit, Starl is the only man to save Deweden from the Riets and if he leaves, then this country will go to shit.

The sooner Starl’s gone the better; a child’s actions reflects the character of their parents.

Archbishops Asks for Future Empress' Conversion to Catholicism
Sacra Basilica de Angeli Gabriel, Velia, Castellum ab Alba
By: Michael Plaetorius (@LTCworld)

Archbishop Theodorus Afinius of Castellum speaking to members of the media from within Sacra Basilica de Angeli Gabriel

Castellum: With the Imperial wedding only a day away, Archbishop Theodorus Afinius of Castellum recently declared that Princess Anastasia should convert to Catholicism or be barred from marrying Emperor Constantine XX on Friday. Archbishop Afinius, appointed as head of Latium’s capital archdiocese in January 2017, told reporters that “I would strongly recommend that [Princess Anastasia] not be allowed to marry the Emperor unless she is willing to convert. It is an affront to God himself if the Most Favored Catholic Majesty of the Church’s Preferred Kingdom enters into union with a schismatic.” Afinius added that he would be willing to personally guide her through the catechumen. Though before the end of the media event, a spokesperson for the Archbishop later added that Afinius would recommend an amendment to the Acts of Succession requiring the consort to be Catholic.

Emperor Constantine and Princess Anastasia have yet to respond and are unlikely to do so according to sources within the Imperial Office. So far the only statement issued by the Imperial Office was to announce that Archbishop Afinius was still invited to and expected to attend the wedding. The Imperial couple has been in Adrianople for the greater part of a week in preparation for the Emperor’s coronation and subsequent wedding. Since their arrival, they have made appearances throughout the city including a planned appearance to the LMH match taking place tonight between HC Regis Adrianople and Gwer Durnovaria HC.

History has shown that Afinius’ declaration is often not one that has been followed by past monarchs and their consorts. Since the 18th century, Latium has had eighteen consorts, of which ten were Fabrian Catholic, three were of Protestant denominations, two Alban Christian, one Demphorian Catholic, and one Ipargarutze Christian. In that time, only one has converted to Catholicism, Empress Xene of the Hellene Keroularios noble family, converted upon her marriage to Emperor George III in 1770. Since then no non-Catholic consorts had converted to Catholicism upon their coronation or marriage to a Latin monarch. In fact, the last Catholic consort of Latium was the then Prince Leo, Duke of Beroea as the husband of Empress Diana Augusta prior to his own ascension by jure uxoris in the mid-1960s. Even recent history, with the two most recent consorts – the second and third wives of the late Emperor Jason VI Augustus – were not Catholic, nor did they convert; Princess Zoe, Countess of Aarhusium adhering to Alban Christianity, and Empress Dowager Marsella favoring the Ipargarutze christian faith. It is also important to note that the late Emperor's first spouse, Princess Stephanie, Duchess of Adrianople, was also a follower of Alban Christianity.

However, Afinius has shown a propensity for somewhat controversial remarks in his brief tenure as Latium’s premier Archbishop. The Archbishop has commented on the Princess in the past, previously referring to her as “the daughter of a mafioso” according to parishioners at Sacra Basilica de Angeli Gabriel. However he later clarified that “I have met Princess Anastasia, and spoken with her on numerous occasions, and by all accounts [she] appears to be a fine person.” Afinius has also weighed in on political issues more than his recent predecessors, calling for a continuation of former Rutupiae consulship’s hardline Morality Laws and most recently he has begun to call for a reinstatement of life senator seats for prominent Latin archbishops and clergymen. He cites historical precedent for his position on life senator seats, calling for greater changes back to pre-Social War senatorial conditions.

Crown Prince Elvëon Assumes Lord Chacellorship in Taenrind
For the first time, an Imperial prince will become the highest leader in the senior house

Iscaost — Continuing with the shake-up of Imperial governance, a statement released from the Azure Palace today has stated that His Imperial Highness, Crown Prince Elvëon who recently formally took a seat in the Taenrind at the start of November, will now also be it's Lord Chancellor, the de facto leader of the house much like the Speaker for the junior house. This will be the first time in four years that a Lord Chancellor as been appointed, and it will also be the first time in Elerrinan history that a Imperial prince, specifically the heir to the throne, will be the most senior leader in the Taenrind.

HIH Prince Elvëon has had quite the impact on the house itself; when he formally took a seat at the start of the previous month, he was also joined by elder sister, HIH Princess Harwië, and the two of them were apparently, from an observation point, charged with bringing the senior house to life, which in recent modern times was viewed as a "rubber stamp" on bills from the junior house. Opposition and debate was rare, and they typically passed any proposals quickly, however that has recently been completely turned on it's head. The Dalathri, the junior elected house, is still in uproar over HIM Emperor Tindómon's decision to not appoint a Prime Minister and to assume full executive authority himself. Their Speaker, Sairalindë Lissësúl (Diatad), who was set to become the next Prime Minister before His Imperial Majesty decided to invoke his own Article 2 powers, has been leading a charge to change the constitution. Within the first week of the Imperial-lead government, the Speaker and her party introduced no less then three legislative actions that would have redefined executive power within the Empire and forced the appointment of a Prime Minister, or in one of them would have made the office a directly elected one. Each of the three was passed with narrow support in the Dalathri, and each of them were subsequently rejected wholesale in the Taenrind.

While that battle may have been over, several new ones will be looming. Prince Elvëon had been serving as an advisor to the Imperial Cabinet before taking up a seat in the Taenrind and it has been known that he was very vocal for the new budget, which will be proposed some time at the beginning of the new year, be radically different then previous ones. What the Diatad Party fears most is that the Emperor's proposed budget will see massive funding cuts towards welfare administration, which currently is 30% of the government's budget and is where all the incentives and rewards come from for the National Academics policy. Diatad had been on course to maintain the current levels or increase them modestly over the next decade, but now with the Emperor leading the government, a Emperor known to be opposed to the entire policy, there are fears have a pitched fight over the budget. The current budget will carry the Imperial government through February 28th of next year, after that if no new budget passes the government will be in essence forced to shut down, and would have severe impacts on the government, economy and every day life within the Empire.

New is not all grim however for the White Throne's government; Prince Maranwion has recently returned from a overseas trip with a delegation from the Department for Foreign Relations, which he headed up, that had embarked to the Dominion of Akhad where the Prince and delegation met with the Prime Minister, Rukn Jalman, as well as several other components of the Dominion's government in efforts to establish a rudimentary trade agreement between the two. Prince Maranwion announced the trip to be a success during a press release in Akhad, where he and the Prime Minister Jalman displayed the basic trade agreement which dictated the flow of Akhadan minerals into the Empire, including gold and topazs, and in return the lowering of Imperial tariffs on trade with Akhad by 15% and also granting subsidies to computer, software, and electronics companies that decided to establish business or export products to the Dominion. The agreement was granted Imperial assent in a ceremony inside the Azure Palace by the Emperor, and it is expected to the first in three deals that the Emperor has dictated his son to seek out.

Eagleland Police changes uniform - and doctrine.
The Eagleland Police enter a new era - black uniforms, Battenburg markings on police cruisers, more training. But perhaps the most radical of all: their doctrine changes.
26 November 2017 | By Maria Matselou (ENT)

Image
The Eagleland Police switch to black uniforms as of January 1st, 2018.

CONSTANTINOPOLIS — The Eagleland Police. For decades it has patrolled our cities, towns, and large communities. With their blue uniforms and light blue shirts, they are perhaps the most iconic police force in the country. Their contribution to the nation's public order is renowned not only in the country, but also in the world. In fact, one can state that the Eagleland Police is the world's best police force - with a marginal margin or error.

But time moves on. The Eagleland Police undergo a major transformation - visually and internally - in order to adapt to these new times.

Image
By September 2018, all Eagleland Police constables must have qualified in the effective use of the Model 35A1 Carbine, which will be issued to all frontline police units by January 2019.

The Eagleland Police were previously a rather demilitarised police force. In the past it was simple: policemen carried pistols and simple batons, as well as handcuffs and OC spray. They were lightly armed and were visible to the public. Back in the day a pistol sufficed. Later, crime surged and with drugs criminals started to make money. More money meant heavier weapons, and so the OPKE and EKAM came into existence. So henceforth the Police would patrol in the same way, but when something bad were to happen, regular units would set up an inner and outer cordon while the tactical teams were to intervene.

Not anymore.

The Ministry of Public Order have decided that the Eagleland Police would set the trend for other police forces - including the Protectores Domestici - by issuing Model 35A1 carbines to all frontline patrol units. This is a radical measure that From January 2018 all Eagleland Police constables would be required to attend carbine proficiency courses. Will this be a radical change?

Yes.

Image
The Arthuristans won't be the only ones with such livery on their police cruisers.[/size]

The Eagleland Police turn over a new leaf. "Our doctrine," says the Commissioner of the Eagleland Police Ioannis Skamalos, "is no longer to wait for a threat to arise to call our policemen into action. We want our police to stop the problem proactively before we have to call in tactical units. We must also combat heavily armed criminals."

Heavily armed criminals? Sure. The Eagleland has one of the lowest crime rates in the Belissarian Community, but nevertheless the criminals become more audacious. The problematic regions of the world are sources of weaponry for organised crime in the country, and on March 7 this year, a motorcycle policing team of four policemen and policewomen was gunned down in Athenae. Although Senior Constable Petros Kalligiannides survived, Constables Maria Stamatidi and Jens-Georgios Böhmermann as well as Sergeant Konstantin Krasniqi were deceased. Cause of death: as they were gunned down by two Estonian criminals armed with AK-47s, massive loss of blood. The policemen and policewoman in question were merely armed with pistols and were patrolling on motorbikes.

This made headlines. The force have learned that it was better to equip all frontline officers with carbines. And this may indeed seem logical, but the Labour Party object to this development. Senator Ioannis Petropoulos mentioned: "This is a cheap attempt at militarising the police force and turning this country into a dictatorship. We want police officers to behave like social workers, not soldiers."

When asked about the arguments in regards to the Athenae shooting, the Senator was unrepentant. "We have tactical units for such events - units, I may add, that the taxpayer finances."

This may be true. But for the time being, the Minister of Public Order Konstantinos Stamatiou insisted this plan would proceed. "Our national security priorities have been set and we are hell-bent on making sure that we do not lose any more officers due to inferior firepower. Our officers must be able to protect the citizen. As the criminals of today are not armed with clubs, but with AK-47s. We must adapt accordingly."

And for the time being, this will be the case.

Pompilius Mentor, Benefactor Faces Organized Crime and Corruption Charges
Arba, Latium
By: John Afinius (@RALpolitics)

Image
Flavius Telesinus, Lord Telesinus of Saetabis (left) was regularly spotted at Pompilius (right) and
United Latium campaign events during the 2017 general election.

Arba: Prominent nobleman, and known Pompilius supporter, Flavius Telesinus, Lord Telesinus of Saetabis was arrested this morning following in an investigation by Frumentarii officials that revealed a number of ties to organized crime. Telesinus, who has been widely known as one of the most charitable men in Latium, had been under investigation by the Frumenatarii since the succession crisis of last year according to Frumentarii Director Antonius Ecdicius, who faced questions regarding the rapid pace at which the first reports of Telesinus’s mob connections arose and the arrest. Telesinus is currently being detained by Frumentarii officials with support of the Praetorian office in rural Arba until he is formally indicted – which is scheduled for early next week. As a life peer, Telesinus will also face an investigation by the Imperial Judiciary Committee, which regulates peerages.

Telesinus is chiefly accused of having ties to the Cuccii crime family, and most importantly to the believed head of the Cuccii, Victor d’Tolosa. Frumentarii agents have offered little to the media thus far, citing that “there is little we can say at this point due to the ongoing nature of the investigation,” according to Director Ecdicius. He elaborated by saying, “When Lord Telesinus is indicted next week, everything will become clearer.” Ecdicius did tell the press, however, that Telesinus was the subject of a year long undercover operation by Frumentarii and SAI agents, which ultimately revealed the necessary evidence to lead to an arrest. Most pundits, thus far, believe that the investigation is more widespread than it appears with the ultimate goal being the arrest of d’Tolosa, who has thus far been unable to be linked to the organization – though has been widely believed to be head of the crime family since 2000. The Cuccii have been the focus of a number of control substance raids by Frumentarii and Praetorian officials since January of this year, following reports that the organization’s operations increased in fall and winter 2016.

The arrest of Telesinus has caused tremendous blowback for Consul Alexander Pompilius, whom has called Telesinus his “mentor…and most ardent supporter.” Pompilius has often spoken fondly of Telesinus since joining the Senate, and even as recently as the 2017 general election where Telesinus was often spotted at Pompilius’ constituency rallies or United Latium campaign events. The first mention of some relationship between the two comes from one of Pompilius’ earliest Senate races in 1985, where he described Telesinus as the “man who gave me a chance…gave me an opportunity to rise out of poverty.” Pompilius’ humble and impoverished roots are widely well known, though RAL has been able to obtain the Consul’s youth tuition statements, which reveals that his tuition to the private school was paid in full by Lord Telesinus for all four years of his secondary schooling.

The ties between Pompilius and Lord Telesinus have been called “deeply troubling” by Opposition and Progressive Party Leader Manuel Batziolas, who briefly commented after the initial reports were made days ago. Citizens–Popular Alterntive leader Felix Procilius went a step further and demanded Consul Pompilius be investigated by the Ethics Committee, claiming that the Consul’s relationship with Telesinus “has been readily available information since [he] joined the Senate almost three decades ago. If he as nothing to hide, I don’t see why he wouldn’t submit to an investigation.” Senator Procilius is currently a member of the Ethics Committee and widely noted as being the most outspoken member despite being from a minority party.

The Consul’s office responded with a short statement after Telesinus’ arrest this morning. “The Consul is deeply disturbed to hear of Lord Telesinus’ arrest. However the Consul’s relationship with Lord Telesinus was not as a mentor or friendship, but of one-time charity. The contact between the Consul and Lord Telesinus after this one-time charitable donation never went beyond the exchange of polite formalities on the rare occasion.” Pompilius has yet to personally respond, as has the Emperor, whom we are told has been informed of the investigation for some time.

Pompilius knew of and tried to stop Telesinus investigation
Arba, Latium
By: John Afinius (@RALpolitics)

Castellum: The uncertainty between Consul Pompilius and his relationship with embroiled nobleman and philanthropist Flavius Telesinus, Lord Telesinus of Saetabis continues to grow after Senator and Homeland Secretary Andronikos Kollias told reporters that Pompilius attempted to insert himself into the Frumentarii investigation. “[Pompilius] and I often spoke about the on going investigation,” is how Kollias began in speaking to reporters this morning from outside of his Castellum-based townhouse. The statement immediately caused a flurry of further questions due to statements from the Consul’s Office explaining that Pompilius knew nothing of the investigation.

Before eventually pushing his way through reporters, Kollias added, “That’s right, [Pompilius] came to me and asked me to ‘see if I can’t put a stop to this investigation.” When prompted on how Kollias responded to the request he said, “What do you think I said? I told him that even if I had that ability, it was the last thing I would do.” One last question posed whether Pompilius attempted to objrust justice and Kollias replied, “Yes,” before storming past reporters. A second senator, Minister of State for Policing and Criminal Justice Gregorius Carisius, has gone on the record and corroborated Kollias’s claim, citing that Pompilius had asked him to interfere as well.

Senator Kollias’s admission has proved to create yet another firestorm around the Consul and his office, with reporters flocking to Mons Abula, the Consular country estate for the upcoming Christmas holiday. A Pompilius spokesperson, Peter Antistius, spoke to reporters from Mons Abula, and said “What Senator Kollias is claiming as wholly and unequivocally false and downright slander.” Anistius explained that “[Pompilius] would never insert himself into an ongoing Frumentarii investigation,” further adding that “Senator Kollias is suffering from low popularity within his own constituency and is only seeking to slander the Consul for a boost in popularity among his high born base,” hinting that Kollias is attacking Pompilius due to his low status of birth and social standing.

Since Kollias’s revelation, a number of protesters in Castellum’s more liberal areas have begun to gather and call for Pompilius’s resignation. “Lepera was right about [Pompilius],” one protester told reporters, speaking of former Progressive Party leader Flavia Lepera’s comments over a year ago in which she claimed Consul Pompilius was the “greatest threat to Latin democracy.” Other protesters followed in the call for the Consul’s resignation, yet recent polling among United Latium voters taken just after the Lord Telesinus arrest show that Pompilius’s personal popularity remains high. This news, however, has prompted Senator Felix Procilius to resume calls for Pompilius to be properly investigated by the ethics committee, though Procilius stated he would “much rather see [Pompilius] do the right thing” and resign.

Protests Grow, Clash with Royal Guard in Ostracine
Ostracine, Sydalon
By: Sophia Ciantar (@SCiantar_dn)

Ostracine: Since this morning, protests have sprung up in Ostracine following a verdict from the Royal Court of Criminal Conduct which declared disgraced, former Catapan of the Order of the Holy Lance Adeodatus du Caeseti guilty of rape, sexual misconduct and for breaking his holy vow of celibacy. The protests, which have become more and more common since Caeseti’s arrest in November, have grown since the verdict was rendered at the unusual day and time of New Years day at 10:34 pm. After police dispersed protesters before last night’s curfew, they have returned again today, with nearly some 1,500 individuals believed to be gathered outside of Ostracine’s royal residence, Palis du Aultaville, demanding that the Queen remove herself with the prosecution for a fair and free trial. A spokesperson of the Queen said that the “[she] is simply doing her constitutional duty to ensure that the laws are faithfully executed and tried in a court of law.”

The protests continued throughout today, with the worst interaction between protesters and a member of the Royal household or government occuring when a protester ran in front of The Queen Mother’s motorcade, and was arrested. Things remained peaceful until protesters began throwing rocks and stones at the palace and Royal Guards stationed within the gates. In response, at approximately 9:09 PM, members of the Queen’s Royal Guard were sent to meet protesters and push them back from the gates of the palace. Instead, protesters pushed back, and refused to move from the gates resulting in a clash with Royal Guards and upwards 300 injuries between Royal Guardsmen and protesters, including at least 5 deaths. The news rapidly spread through the city by social media, more protesters gathering throughout parts of Ostracine, primarily near the palace and the Old City.

With a curfew in effect at 10:00 pm, local police, military and Royal Guard personnel have announced that they will arrest any individual found to be violating the curfew. However, social media posts on AdTab have called for citizens to violate the “unlawful curfew” and take to the streets in protest.

Protesters Storm Pontu Sant Filipe
Ostracine, Sydalon
By: Sophia Ciantar (@SCiantar_dn)

Police stationed at Pontu Sant Filipe retreat to take cover inside the building

Ostracine: Protesters gathered outside of Pontu Sant Filipe, a Royal courthouse and temporary-stay prison, in Ostracine’s old city began to clash with local police for refusing to comply with the capital’s recently imposed curfew at 11:00 pm. Protesters began throwing rocks at police stationed at Sant Filipe, and are said to have eventually retreated inside the building by 12:30 am. A number of trending social media posts have demonstrated that moments after police retreated inside the lightly protected government facility, protesters stormed the fences, and brought down the main gates, capturing a guard that remained trapped in a guardhouse.

Police inside began to open fire on protesters from second-story windows as protesters-turned rioters rushed into the facility armed with little more than a handful of hand-held weapons, such as tire irons. Sant Filipe was home to a number of high profile inmates, including Adeodatus du Caeseti and other members of his former Order of the Holy Lance high command. Moments before internet access to social media sites such as AdTab were blocked, protesters posted that they had taken control of Sant Filipe. There has thus far been no word as to the status of the police or protesters at Sant Filipe regarding injuries or death. The government has yet to publicly respond though numerous reports of tanks and armed SDE personnel moving swiftly through the old city followed the event.

By 1:00 am, SDE tank and anti-riot units reached Sant Filpe and have since been in a stand off with protesters, though are surrounded on all sides as People’s Tribune Philip Abani has offered to speak with the Queen and First Secretary Saabi to reach a “amicable and peaceful resolution to prevent an escalation of violence.” There are also first hand reports that Ardo II, Lord of Caeseti has been present at Sant Filipe since it was taken over by protesters. Protests in the immediate area of Palis du Aultaville have ceased, through crowds have been gathering all throughout a one mile radius of the Royal residence.

GOV'T MINISTRY WARNS OF 'VOLATILITY' AHEAD OF PARLIAMENTARY ELECTIONS
Interior Minister Sulaiman al-Rabhanni warns President and PM of 'political volatility' ahead of closely contested parliamentary elections

NAJIRAH, NURSARIYAH -- The pre-election chaos and enthusiasm, long a part of the Nursariyan political cycle since the days of independence, seems to have reached a fever pitch today as thousands of citizens, young and old, of every background, poured out into the streets nationwide to vocally and visibly show their political support for the various opposition factions vying to break the Nursariyah Party's two decades long vise grip on power.

Mass protests broke out in major cities across the country this week, the largest being in Dohran, Najirah, Suwaydah, and Fak. The protests, largely segmented along party lines, showed how much political division exists within the country ahead of the elections. Clashes with both police and other protesters broke out in the city of Fak and the capital of Najirah, with at least a dozen civilians being injured -- two being wounded critically, in the ruckus.

The chaos, which has reportedly ground the daily functions of the entire country to a halt, has prompted the Ministry of Interior Affairs to release a classified communique to both President Muammar Abd al-Hariri and Prime Minister Mubarak Ali al-Khawaja warning of "significant political volatility, with the risks of extremism and violence being extremely high in the coming days." The statement, which comes as President al-Hariri has reportedly been eyeing authorizing the use of security forces to quell the protests, was specifically quoted as saying:

"With the substantial increase in the internal and external public activities, rallies, protests, and demonstrations of the following parties: the Democratic People's Party, Umma Party, Freedom Party, Worker's Party, and Nursariyah Dawn, the pre-existing political status quo conditions are at risk of being significantly disrupted. Based on internal surveyance of social media, supporters of these opposition groups are seeking to ramp up their activities due to the recent loss of over 30 parliamentary seats within the Nursariyan Renaissance Front. Presumably, they seek to use their increased turnout to push the Front to either fracture or to majority loss. In the face of this significant political volatility, it is the determination of the Ministry of the Interior that immediate stabilization efforts are to be performed if the political status quo is to be maintained through the upcoming elections and into the future."
-- Sulaiman al-Rabhanni

The communique, uncovered by the Nursariyan hacktivist group al'-Ashbah (الأشباح), is cited by many opposition party supporters as a sign that the government was feeling threatened by their rise. Mansoor el-Bashir, the spokesman for the Democratic People's Party and de-facto leader of the Democratic Alliance -- the primary opposition front challenging the Nursariyah Party -- condemned the communique as both 'threatening' and 'undemocratic.' In a statement released on social media, el-Bashir called on international bodies to "take notice of the authoritarian and undemocratic stance that the government of al-Hariri has taken on the will of the people. While the Democratic Alliance will be paying close attention, it is up to the international community to bring al-Hariri to task for any illegal and unethical measures taken over the course of this election."

The post ended with an ominous warning by el-Bashir that "serious steps would be taken by the people of Nursariyah" should the government impede the election "in any way."

For its part, the Interior Ministry released a statement categorically denying both the communique and it's content. Interior Ministry spokeswoman, Thaamira el-Beydoun, told reporters that the hacked documents were "simply untrue, falsified documents designed to impune the good standing of the government" and that "the government is looking into how these documents came about."

The communique also comes as members of the public report that there has been a significant uptick in the number and scale of the presence of the Nursariyan Security Forces in major cities throughout the country. Reports of Republican Guardsmen, as well as members of the Nursariyan Arab Army joining members of the police at protests in Dohran, Najirah, Suwaydah, and Fak, as well as reports of NAA deployments in the cities of Idd, Mahahij, Ghouta, and Queria, have come in from numerous sources to the Nursariyan Organization for Human Rights (NOHR).

Elections are to be held this Saturday, 6 January 2018.

Republic declares support for Sydalene protesters
Senate Foreign Affairs Committee declares support for protesters and warns the monarchy "do not spill more blood"

SCFA chairman, Senator Gereon Strasser praised the Sydalene people for "reclaiming their freedom"

Lachawa, Liothidia, Liothidian Senatorial Republic — The Senatorial Committee for Foreign Affairs has officially declared support for the Sydalene protesters. In a televised statement, chairman of the committee, Senator Gereon Strasser said, “the Republic looks to Sydalon in full support of the people. We stand with them in spirit and admiration as they seek to reclaim their freedom and liberty from a corrupt family. Blood already runs deep in Sydalon’s streets, and the Republic is expecting that to stop immediately.”

Protests began after the Sydalene court found former head of Sydalene’s principal military order, Adeodatus du Caesti guilty of rape. Protesters were primarily charged over the direct involvement of Sydalene’s Queen, Melisende III. According to the repressive Sydalene constitution, the monarch has extensive and abusive powers, including active involvement in prosecutions. Her involvement in the questionable charges against Du Caesti has led many in Sydalon to determine that she is using the justice system for her own aims.

At least 300 people have been killed in state-backed violence against protesters. Most have been killed by heavily militarised units of the police or the Queen's personal militia. There also widespread reports of torture, disappearances and at least 36 dead in custody since the protests began.

Sydalon has a lengthy history of abuse at the hands of monarchs, much like the majority of Belisaria. Numerous Kings and Queens have used the state to fund their extravagant lifestyles, treated citizens as objects rather than human beings. Queen Melisende III, already has a controversial status. Her first marriage was annulled by His Holiness Pope Julius IV, after her husband was discovered by an active homosexual. Many Senators in Liothidia noted that her disastrous choice for a husband reveals her lack of respect of the pious people of Sydalon, and further undermines her legitimacy.

Further in his statement, Senator Strasser said, “the Committee was united in declaring support for the people of Sydalon. For now, we are witnessing a new great revolt against the tyrannical orthodoxy that grips mankind. We are seeing once again, the righteous and freedom loving masses rise up against the tyrannical, nepotistic corrupt few. Sydalon once again proves that monarchs no where are safe. The cult of the royal lie is not invincible, the tyranny of the womb can be overcome.

“The Republic stands with Sydalon and will stand with them forever as they rise over the ashes of monarchism” he said.

Senator Hans-Christian Groenen, a prominent member for the Senatorial Committee for the Propagation of Republican Ideals, said, “I support the Foreign Affairs Committee’s decision, we must ensure that the people of Sydalon are provided all necessary support, including the maintaining of access to the internet, diplomatic support and the immediate implementation of sanctions in wake of violence. As the second largest economy in the world, we can hurt them.

“I also urge the Senate to support firmer declarations warning the cabal of tyrants in the Belisarian Community not to rush to defend the dictator Melisende” he said further.

First Citizen Viktoria von Carstein has also expressed support for the protesters, but warned of excessive foreign involvement.

“We must not be quick to jump in, we must provide both sides the necessary space to negotiate. It would be much better for Sydalon to find a peaceful solution and god willing, a peaceful transition to true democratic governance, without bloodshed or violence” she said.

However, when asked by reporters what would the Republic do in the event of excessive violence by the weakening monarchy, she said, “in the event of a clear massacre, we would look at all options to halt the violent suppression of the quest for liberty.”

Rumours are now circling however, of a possible intervention by his Holiness Pope Julius IV. Several sources close to the Vatican have indicated the Pope has been unsettled by the crisis developing in Sydalon. The Pope has been reportedly disgruntled by the Sydalene treatment of Du Caesti who served his Order and by extension the Fabrian Catholic Church, “with dignity, valour and piety” according to one senior Cardinal.

Should the Holy Father come out in support of the protesters, that would cripple the monarchy and no doubt lead the immediate downfall of Queen Melisende and the establishment of a free, judicious Sydalene Republic.

Queen Flees; Caeseti returns to Ostracine
Ostracine, Sydalon
By: Sophia Ciantar (@SCiantar_dn)

Ostracine: This morning protesters turned rioters stormed Palis du Autlaville after a series of minor skirmishes with Royal Guards throughout the palace and government district. Gunfire became commonplace in the palace district over the last 24 hours, with eyewitnesses saying the guards discharged their weapons into the air whenever protesters approached the gates. However, after one such warning shot, two climbers did not fall back and were fired upon by Royal Guards, resulting in the climbers deaths. Videos sent to Delpha Nuntia and our affiliates demonstrate the moment, and prompted other protesters to attempt to storm the gates and walls of the royal residence.

People’s Tribune Philip Abani, who has been present with the protesters since Sant Filipe, spoke with reporters moments before the incident and said that “I have spoken with the Queen and other members of High Court to find a resolution to these protests for the benefit of all Sydalon. I promise that we are close to that resolution.” However his statement was cut short by the climbers deaths and could only watch as palace guards were quickly overrun and the rioters forced their way into the palace. Delpha Nuntia can now confirm that the Queen and key members of the High Court were able to flee the palace via helicopter during the skirmishes; however, their current whereabouts or destination are unknown. With the Queen absent, some local police districts are believed to have offered Tribune Abani their support in restoring order to the city.

Though while protesters took control of the palace, former Catapan of the Order of the Holy Lance entered Ostracine with a small force of what is believed to number near 4,000 troops. Caeseti’s march on Ostracine was attempted to be blocked by a minor force of royalist SDE forces, only to be defeated in a skirmish 20 miles south of the city before being absorbed into Caeseti’s extralegal military force. Inquiries into Caeseti’s motives are largely unknown, with the few quotes from his camp simply stating that he simply wishes to “protect and assert his rights” as a citizen of Sydalon and man of noble blood. However, Caeseti himself has remained elusive to all inquiries. People’s Tribune Abani announced that he has personally spoken with Caeseti in a speech to crowds outside of Palis du Aultaville, and said that “he is a friend of the people’s cause, and only has Sydalon’s survival as his goal.” Abani also mentioned that he and the People’s Assembly have called for a meeting of the Senate tonight, and that Caeseti has been invited to attend. We will follow with more news as it becomes available, and have live reporting of the Senate's special assembly tonight.

Though the violence in Ostracine certainly comes as a surprise to all, the editorial staff at Delpha would like to point out a number of inaccuracies in a Liothidian state-propaganda article found in Nationale Ausdrucklich, which claimed that the death toll from the riots reached upwards of 300. All indications suggest a much lower casualty rate near 30 confirmed deaths as reported by the National Health Service.

Senate Abolishes Monarchy, Declares Republic and Plans for New Constitution
Ostracine, Sydalon
By: Sophia Ciantar (@SCiantar_dn)

Image
Adeodatus du Caeseti (above) after being appointed Dictator,
with the primary duty of overseeing the transitional government and new constitution.

Ostracine: Late last night, Senators from both houses of the Senate met at the request of People’s Tribune Philip Abani – now the highest ranking government official remaining in Sydalon following the resignation of First Secretary Adeodata Saabi. Though the special meeting was reportedly requested by former Holy Lance Catapan Adeodatus du Caeseti, Abani debunked these rumors early on in the assembly claiming that “this Assembly of the people’s representatives is of paramount importance for our country. The last few days, and even hours have demonstrated that no one man or woman will ever again control what rightfully belongs to the people.” Caeseti, however, was present at the Assembly, along with a dozen or so of his officers from his recently gathered extralegal military brigade – they were the only non-senators in attendance.

Abani first spoke of the Queen’s flight from Ostracine, now believing she has arrived in neighboring Ascalzar, eventually denouncing her inaction when it came to stopping the violence during what he dubbed the “New Year’s Revolution.” Interestingly, Abani’s first order of real business was to reaffirm the recent Royal proclamation passed in November 2017 to reaffirm the Holy City of Sydalon as the “people’s capital.” In his speech, Abani claims all key offices will be relocated there before March.

Though only roughly half of all Senators were in attendance, with 177 senators from the People’s Assembly and 21 lords temporal or spiritual, Abani then directed the assembly to a debate on the Crown’s position in what Abani repeatedly referred to as the “peoples’ government.” Senator Abbi Philosir, who represents within Ostracine, was among the first senators to speak out against Queen Melisende III, calling her a “tyrant of the highest order,” and that “she and her cabal of puppet-masters are not welcome within our holy borders.” Senator Philosir continued speaking for nearly 20 minutes before ending his speech by saying, “it is time for the people to finally take control of their government. For far too long, the government has not held consent of the governed and the people only marginalized. I put forth to this honorable Senate that we vote at once and unanimously for the abolition of the crown.”
After an hourlong debate, leading into the wee hours of the morning, the Senate voted by a margin of 183 to 15, with 255 absentations due to absence, the Senate supported the immediate abolition of the monarchy. The hastily written senate order stripped Queen Melisende and all those holding title holding members of the royal family of their rank and title; confiscated royal residences, lands and estates; and froze all domestic banking accounts held by members of the former Royal Family. The strictness of the order was opposed by all lords temporal present, and two bishops in their capacity as lords spiritual. The senate order made no mention of the abolishment of other noble titles, though Tribune Abani declared that all citizens would “now be equal before the law.”

Abani then ordered an emergency vote to fill the executive vacancy left by the Queen’s departure and subsequent abolition. One senator, supported by the boisterous Senator Philosir, proposed a temporary executive council to exercise executive power, while another proposal suggested appointing an emergency “Dictator” to hold executive authority and be charged with the primary duty of overseeing the writing of a new, democratic, and republican constitution. The latter proposal would win out in a vote taking place at approximately 3:00 am, creating the temporary office of Dictator, which is set to expire in six months on 10 July 2018. The office of Dictator is believed to be subject to a number of senatorial approvals, though no official statement has been made on the exact powers. As its final act of the emergency assembly, Adeodatus du Caeseti was appointed Dictator of the new republic.

Pompilius Addresses Corruption Allegations; Discusses Recent Global Changes
Forum, Castellum ab Alba, Latium
By: Theophanes Veturius (@RALpolitics)

Image
Pompilius refutes claims that he interfered with the Lord Telesinus investigation, speaks on growing worldwide crises.

Castellum: Amid ever declining popularity and in breaking a week long silence, Consul Alexander Pompilius took to the podium and addressed the Christmas Eve allegations that claim he attempted to stop the Frumentarii investigation into his mentor Flavius Telesinus, Lord Telesinus of Saetabis. Pompilius called the allegations “preposterous” and “unadulterated garbage aimed at tearing down and destroying the great progress [government] has made over the last year.” Since the news, Pompilius’ personal popularity has finally dipped below 50%, leveling out at 44%. Pompilius responded to questions of an ethics investigation by saying that he “will not dignify the news story by wasting the Senate’s important time with rumor and conjecture.” Pompilius later claimed to have the Emperor’s full support, though no comment from the Imperial Office has been made.

Though Pompilius continued his press event by taking questions on the growing troubles in Sydalon and recent overthrow of Queen Melisende III, and the Dewedish crisis. However, he quickly turned the discussion to one of what he called “the Liothidian menace,” citing the recent false reports and “fake news” found within a recent report of the Sydalene crisis in the Liothidan publication Nationale Ausdrucklich. “I do not discount that the Sydelene crisis or the Dewedish crisis are troubling, in fact they are deeply concerning. But it would be unwise not to discuss the Liothidian desire to see the world around it in flames. This article in Ausdrucklich is pure fabrication, and distortion of the real events, which I have been briefed on. With the upcoming continental elections on the horizon this spring, I think the nations of free Belisaria, including all of the BC and even members of NATA need to focus our efforts on ensuring that this problem does not get out of hand and being to destroy our own national institutions.”

Pompilius attempted to briefly speak about Sydalon crisis, Nursariyah election and Deweden, though reporters often tried to steer questions to the Lord Telesinus investigation. He first expressed his deepest sympathies for all parties in Sydalon, whether they be part of the monarchy or protesters, and that “the situation is far more complicated that it seems.” He refused to comment on the reports of Latin forces within Sydalon beginning to mobilize, though noted that “the Emperor has been fully briefed. I think that is a question best left to His office.” Pompilius mentioned that “all eyes of the world are on Deweden and we have not forgotten about the tenuous situation in Nursariyah and their upcoming elections. All good nations of the world hope for national democratic processes to be followed – and I think they will.”

As the press event ended, reporters shouted questions about Adeodatus du Caeseti’s appointment as Dictator, with the Consul only saying that, “I find his lack of piousness, wholesome Catholic values concerning, and so should the Sydalene people and all people of the world.” He did not call Caeseti a rapist, as Senator and First Secretary of State Alexandra Sulpicia recently did as she was met by reporters this morning before entering the Senate. Sulpicia broke with Pompilius’s middle ground by saying that “the Queen was right to push for the punishment she did against that rapist.” Sulpicia has been widely regarded as a possible replacement for Pompilius should the Lord Telesinus problem continue to plague his Consulship.

(Ghish, Ghant) - Better late than never is a widely held sentiment. That’s certainly the case for Ghantish Prime Minister Nymun Izarbegiratzeak, who on the cusp of his 73rd birthday, was announced as the 2017 recipient of the esteemed Ismos Peace Prize.

Gorka Aguirre, the Chairman of the Ismos Peace Committee and former Ghantish Prime Minister from 1992 until 1998, released a statement announcing the award recipient:

The Ismos Peace Committee has decided to award the Ismos Peace Prize for 2017 to Nymun Izarbegiratzeak for his important efforts, around the world and over more than five decades, to resolve conflicts both domestic and international. These efforts have contributed to a more peaceful world and to "fraternity between nations" in the spirit Irat Ismos, after who the award is named.

Throughout all his adult life, whether as a Ghantish political theorist, satirist and author and later as Prime Minister of Ghant, Nymun Izarbegiratzeak has worked for peace and reconciliation using whatever platform was available to him. For the past fifty years, he has figured prominently in endeavors to resolve several serious and long-lasting conflicts. Nymun Izarbegiratzeak has made constructive contributions to the resolution of conflicts in Ashab, Ceti, Deweden, Latium, Liothidia, Nekulturnya, New Edom, Rietumimark, and Vannois ranging from the 1960s through the present day. He played a significant part in the establishment of the Human Rights Commission in 2016 and remains a leading proponent in exploring peaceful solutions to international conflicts and disputes through the use of mediation, advocacy and public education.

Through his untiring efforts and good results, Nymun Izarbegiratzeak has shown what role mediation and advocacy of various kinds can play in the resolution of international conflicts. The Ismos Peace Committee wishes to express the hope that others may be inspired by his efforts and his achievements and follow in his footsteps in the quest to achieve lasting international peace.

The Prime Minister released a statement where he described feeling “deeply honored” and “greatly humbled.” The Prime Minister, known for his modesty, is in a historic position as only the second sitting Ghantish Prime Minister to win the award, following Prime Minister Malderi Haribec in 1939, for his work in peacefully opposing Emperor Nathan III during the Ghantish Revolution as a political prisoner and in helping resolve the conflict as the appointed Prime Minister by Emperor Michael. Irat Ismos, who the award is named after, won the inaugural award in 1890, many years after leaving office. Prime Minister Izarbegiratzeak is the first Ghantish recipient of the award since Sophia, Princess Royal of Dakmoor received the award in 2013 for her humanitarian work in Ghant and abroad.

Prime Minister Izarbegiratzeak had the following to say in an official press release regarding his receiving of the award:

Since the award’s inception, the Ismos Peace Prize has not just been used to recognize certain achievements or accomplishments, but to provide momentum for important causes. Make no mistake, the most important cause is the cause of peace, and it’s a mission that all nations of the modern world ought to work toward. That’s the Great Game…the endgame. That’s why I’ve written several papers, articles and novels about ending nuclear proliferation, addressing the challenges posed by climate change, connecting people of different religions, races and persuasions in order to build cooperation and understanding, peace between warring factions within nations, better conditions for the poorest citizens of Ghant and elsewhere, and advocating for more opportunities for the worst off. To work towards a world where people won’t have to live in fear of political violence, and where they can hope for a better future for themselves and thief families.

Therefore, I’d like to share this award with everyone that I’ve had the pleasure of working with since my days as a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed political science undergrad at the University of Ghish back in 1963. For all the professors who gave lectures to young people about the virtues of public service. For all the young activists that marched in the streets for political and social justice. For all the people out there that work for a world of justice, dignity and peace, I dedicate this award to you.

The Prime Minister faced some stiff competition for the award. Among the other nominees included Emperor Constantine XX of Latium, Latin Consul Alexander Pompilius, the Latin Empress Dowagers Diana Augusta and Marsella Atmos, King Philippe II of New Doltania, Fekade Tessema, Prime Executor James Trask of Novitera and the Chacoan Jesuit Priest Father Marco Jimenz. Insiders indicate that of these nominees, Father Jimenez and the Latin Dowager Empresses were Nymun’s strongest competition. It is thought that Marsella Atmos being a co-nominee of Diana Augusta held back that nomination’s chances, as analysts believe Diana Augusta would have fared better if nominated on her own (not believing Marsella Atmos was worthy of the award). Meanwhile, Father Jimenez is an early favorite to win the award in 2018.

Public perception of the award announcement has been overwhelmingly positive, to the extent that it is giving the Prime Minister a boost in approval polls. With a general election looming in 2018, the Prime Minister’s whip-stitched Independent Coalition, consisting of politicians from across the political spectrum, has lagged in recent polls behind the Labor Party led by Sara Haribec, who is a strong possibility for future Prime Minister of Ghant provided a Labor Party victory. With this award, however, Prime Minister Izarbegiratzeak has far better odds than he did before.

The Peace Prize will be presented to the Prime Minister on December 22nd, on his 73rd birthday, at the Imperial Ghish Concert Hall by Peace Prize Laureate Empress Sophia of Ghant, Gorka Aguirre and Institute member Sara Haribec, great-granddaughter of Laureate Prime Minister Malderi Haribec and descendant of Irat Ismos through her mother. Congratulations to Prime Minister Nymun Izarbegiratzeak on his well deserved award!

Empress: I refuse to work with a known rapist
By: Xylona Sacca (@NatFloros)

[Lihnidos - EA] Arcadia - The Empress has reportedly stated that she will refuse to work with newly installed dictator of Sydalon, Adeodatus du Caeseti. She reportedly made the comment during an emergency cabinet meeting that took place after the news had broke that the Sydalene monarchy had been overthrown. An anonymous source that claims to have been in the room during the comments says that the Empress called du Caeseti a “rapist” and a “sexual predator.” The Empress also allegedly questioned the faith of the Sydalene people, asking, “how is it possible to be faithful to God, yet follow a man who has committed such terrible sins?”

The emergency cabinet meeting in question was called by the Prime Minister when word was received that Queen Melisende III had fled the country and that the Sydalene legislature had voted to abolish the monarchy. The meeting, which was held in the early morning, is said to have seen almost all of the cabinet in attendance, with only the Speaker of the National Assembly and Secretary of State for Social Affairs being absent. The Empress and High Matriarch were present over video conference. The meeting ended roughly two hours later, with the Prime Minister issuing a statement urging calm and hoping for a peaceful solution. The Imperial Offices released a similar statement shortly after.

The violence in Sydalon saw the Ministry of Foreign and Belisarian Affairs issue a travel warning to the entirety of Sydalon and a warning to the Lihnidosi already in the country. The Lihnidosi embassy in the Sydalene capital went into partial lockdown throughout the riots and increased the security presence around the embassy. The embassy reported numerous instances of Lihnidosi citizens coming to the embassy for a safe and secure place to stay throughout the unrest. Secretary Pachis, in response to the uncertainty in Sydalon, issued a statement shortly after the emergency cabinet meeting. “The Ministry is closely monitoring the events unfolding in Sydalon. While the current situation is volatile, we hope that a quick and peaceful solution can be worked out that returns peace to the streets. Until then, I would advise all Lihnidosi citizens currently in Sydalon to remain indoors and off the streets. The embassy in Ostracine will remain open to all citizens throughout the unrest. Any citizens in the country that have questions should direct them to the embassy or the consulate in Sydalon.”

The Ministry of Foreign and Belisarian Affairs has made no mention of whether or not the Lihnidosi government recognizes du Caeseti as the official leader of Sydalon. Neither the Ministry, the Prime Minister’s Office, of the Imperial Offices have returned requests for comment. It is believed that the Empress personally contacted the Sydalene queen and offered her safe harbor in Lihnidos and assistance in any way possible, although the foreign ministry has released no statement to that effect.

The alleged comments made by the Empress put the National Assembly in a precarious position as it is set to begin the 2018 session later this week. The Sydalene crisis will undoubtedly be a topic of discussion, as will the possible recognition of the newly created Sydalene Republic. If the Empress refuses to recognize a new Sydalon, it would be difficult for the National Assembly to justify a vote to officially recognize the new government.

The Prime Minister has reportedly collapsed at a UMP party event today in Saint-Nazaire, and been taken by ambulance to the Imperial University, Saint-Nazaire Medical Centre in the capital. Prime Minister the Duke of Périnesse-Toucourt is currently 64 and has led Vannois in his current position since the 2011 death of his predecessor Stephan de Renauer. Before this event there have been few questions about his fitness for a further term in government, which would begin this May the 7th should his UMP win the general elections; his official physicians, duty-bound to report his health truthfully to the Emperor and then to the public, have consistently reported on the Duke's "robust" health on a year-by-year basis.

While there has been no official information regarding the PM's condition, it has been noted that the Emperor has not sealed the Imperial Palace as his predecessor, the late Charles XII, did upon the death of Stephan de Renauer. Additionally, the deputy Prime Minister Jean-Yves Nicollier and other leading members of the current government have remained at the official residence of the Duke and seat of elected government in Vannois, the Hôtel Avoinet. Requests for comment from those currently at the Avoinet have been denied by all UMP officials, although a press release has been promised immediately following the announcement of the Duke's condition by IUSN officials. It is unknown as to who will be making the release, and whether it will be read to reporters at the Avoinet or at the medical centre.

Emperor Louis XIX has released a statement calling upon the nation to pray for the Prime Minister's good health, and said that he himself will withdraw to the Basilica of St. Nazaire in order to pray. Chief opposition leaders Élaine Vaillancourt of Vannois d'Abord and Olivier Verninac of the Alliance des Libéraux have also released press statements in support of their erstwhile political enemy, calling for "unity that goes beyond politics, beyond ideology" and for a day of peace and respect. Former Prime Ministers Maximilien Astier and Alphonse Daucourt also have posted messages of support for the Duke on social media. A VdA press conference previously scheduled for later this afternoon was canceled out of respect for the ailing Prime Minister, and Vaillancourt has announced that her own deputy, Joseph Lemaire, will be making an official press statement once the condition of the Duke of Périnesse-Toucourt is revealed.

At this time, there is no expectation of this turn of events affecting the rapidly approaching general elections nor to previously announced government policy goals prior to that contest. Should any of this information change, Aujourd'hui en Vannois will endeavor to report adjustments as they are released to the public.

The Cult of Ah Muzhen Cab continue it’s work for the protection of the bees.

The Disciples of the “Bringer of Prosperity” continue their holy mission...

Stingless bees as seen in a farmer's backyard, region of Qumark'aj

Ah Muzhen Cab, Lord of the Bees, is one of the oldest gods of the Mutul and it’s cult one of the most popular. It’s priest have always taken the utmost care of the little yellow-and-black striped insects, offering them protection and shelters so they could continue their important task : the pollination of the corn.

But more recently, the Belisarian bees, “Apis mellifera”, was imported for its honey production, superior to those of the Stingless Bees native of Oxidentale. Among the cultist of Ah Muzhen Cab, it had been a great conflict, that almost provoked the separation of the Cult in two sides, between the “conservatives” who opposed the importation of Belisarian queens, while other favored it. But this debate is long gone, as the Apis mellifera was favored for its superior commercial value, and the Stingless bees still survive in the Holy Forests and Sacred Acres prepared by the Cult.

But this was all but a mere shadow to what was to come. For reasons unknown, bees started to die. More and more. To the point than Beekeepers completely replace their hives every two years. While it is expected that 10% of a hive die during winter, today it can reach up to 20 or 30% of a hive dying. In some cases, hives can lose more of their workers in summer than in winter, which was a never-seen configuration until a few years ago.

Many causes are brought forward to explain this. Fungi, bacterias, chemical products poisoning the colony… The high priest of the sect, the Ahuacan Jun Itz, declared that, from their studies, none of these causes can be declared to be the only reason for all the problem touching the bees.

“It’s a vicious cycle.” He explained to our journalists. “One problem will weaken but not kill the colony, but now it won’t be able to fight back against a second problem that until this point never bothered them. None of the causes pushed forward would have been a problem on their own, but together, they provoke grave consequences against which the bees can’t fight back.”

In a decade, the number of bees in the country have decreased by 50 to 60%, following a tendency touching all the insects. “It could be worse.” Precised His Holiness. “In other regions of the world, we estimate that their bees populations have decreased by 75 to 80% on the same time frame. Our sanctuaries and daily attention to the colonies in them”

These numbers come from the recents studies published by the Cult of Ah Muzhen Cab in both their own newspaper and in internationally recognized scientifical press. The datas come from long observations on the ground of the populations all around the Mutul, but also in the rest of the continent and even in Belisaria.

“It is incredibly difficult to make correct estimates about bees and their populations, as workers have been observed to change hives from time to time. But our work with honeymakers and associations all around the world allowed us to publish this important paper that resumed a decade of work on the field and in the temples.” Announced His Holiness Jun Itz.

And the Ahuacan and his initiates are right to be proud. Their Majesty the K’uhul Ajaw himself have summoned Ahuacan Jun Itz to the palace of Kalak’Muul to discuss such matters. However, the Cult of Ah Muzhen Cab didn’t wait for the Divine King to take some actions : they’ve put in place a completely free service dedicated to eradicate wasps everywhere they’re signaled with the help of local firefighters, and freely give advices and help to honeymakers so their colonies can survive, while waiting for maybe a change of the laws controlling the production and selling of honey. The Ahuacan also desire, through the donations of the believers, to continue support researches in this domain.
