After a many month long mission, the Kamooko Pact garrison of Altara International Airport, Altaguay, is finally packing its bags. Originally in charge of guaranteeing Altaguay’s sovereignty, the KP mission to the small country would be beaten back by first rebel attacks and then an Arcadian intervention, with important airport of Altara being all that remained of their jurisdiction.

In the months since, Capt. Marcus Brayfield’s dwindling force of Albatanians, Placeodermsians, and Green Loyalists had mostly concerned themselves with processing refugees from both the rebel groups and FASC. The new pro-Arcadian colonial government in Altaguay had no shortage of enemies, many of whom had originally found themselves in Altaguay in an attempt to avoid persecution by one of the major powers. When Arcadia had invaded, these people were essentially left with two choices; escape to Sevevill, or hand themselves over to the KP. As it turns out, people on the run from FASC and Sevevill often have something those governments want. And more than a few are willing to sell it to Kamooko in exchange for safety.

By now, though, the globs of refugees within Altara International have dried up. The terminals, once full of asylum seekers, are now all but empty, with the stragglers being only those few difficult ones, those wretched nationalists and petty criminals who could not bring themselves to leave their homeland, and who are worth nothing to Kamooko. These put up a fuss at the news that their KP protectors were leaving and they would be turned over to the colonial authorities, but at the end of the day they would just have to live with the reality that their home was part of the Federation now, and neither tears nor anger will save them from the imperial noose.

Kamooko never did officially accept Arcadia’s dominion over Altaguay, but eventually stopped protesting the takeover once it was clear no help from the international community was forthcoming. Still, the garrison had left in them one last gesture of defiance. In the hasty change of command ceremony, KP troops handed control of the airport to civilian security officials, not the pro-FASC regime’s soldiers.

Republic of Altos and Stratis wrote:Over the September Strait
Lt. Gen. Arthur Stone looked around at the other soldiers in his helicopter, for the last few weeks everyone had been restricted to one meal a day. And it showed, morale was pretty low. But in preparation for the mission high command had authorized full rations. And for once everyone stomachs were full. He moved toward the front of the helicopter, ahead he could see their gunship escorts. In the distance, he could see the outline of September island slowly growing larger. “God help us” he said quietly.

Within less than an hour of receiving Altos and Stratis’ declaration, the Kamooko Pact garrison on September Island has already released copies of the document and protested vigorously to the international community. Arguing on the behalf of the government of the small state, who’s neutrality they are charged with protecting, they have stated strongly that they do not in any way consent to this action and accused the Republic of Altos and Stratis of flagrantly violating international convention on the laws of war. This action does nothing to further Altos and Stratis’ military goals, and strains the solidarity of the pro-UCSO coalition through needless controversial action.

Maj. Liso Glace, Near the North Coast of September Island:

The staff jeep screeched to up to the gathering, Liso leaping out before it had fully stopped. They were atop a ridge overlooking the entire North coast of their small ocean rock, a small group of perhaps a dozen SIDF and local police staring intently out towards the distant smidge which was Oceania.

“Have we got a visual on them?” The Loyalist major inquired.

“That should be them, Ma’am,” One of the defence force officers said, gesturing at a distant patch of sky, “approaching fairly low over the sea.”

Major Glace grabbed a pair of binoculars from one of the soldiers and started scanning the sky. Sure enough, there they were. A flight of helicopters was approaching.

They watched as the tiny distant dots turned into tiny distant smudges, before taking on the form of tiny distant insects with jutting legs. The Altosians and Stratisians had attack helicopters with them.

Glace turned to the troops, “Tell everyone you can get a hold of to go to the nearest weapons collection point and arm up. As of right now, the arms disposal project is on hold.”

There was a murmur of affirmation, until one policeman raised a concern. “But what about the helicopters? They could have control of the island before we get equipped.”

Glace looked up, considering the vicious, looming shapes. Then she reached a hand out to one of the officers.

“Give me that AK.”

The Imperial Armed Forces Brodcast

The Imperial Armed Forces condemns the armies of Altos & Stratis for disrupting the peaceful society of the September Islands who rightfully elected to stay neural in the conflict. With this the Imperial Armed Forces pledges that their first priority to rightfully return the September Islands to their rightful owners in and the KP.

Off the coast of the September Island

Seveillian fleets have started to move in closer to the coast of the September Islands. Their presence can be seen from the coast but they are not in range along with three troop ships showing inside of said fleet with another being dispatched from Sevevill.

We will fund any damages from our invasion of your rightful territories. And we can make arrangements for after soldiers from Altos and Stratis have been removed from the island.

Thank you,

The Free Kingdom Ministry of Foreign Affairs mocks the false pretenses of the genocidal Sevevilleans. As we know, the genocidal Sevevillean Empire has carried out previous genocidal invasions of a range of peaceful nations, or at least nations that have not carried out any aggressions against the genocidal Sevevillean Empire. For the genocidal Sevevillean Empire, which is even now carrying out a series of acts of aggression and genocide against the Oceanians, and is continuing its occupation of parts of Diyaristan, as well as acts of genocide against indigenous people, to be making any kind of mouth-noises about 'sovereignty' when its ships are still blocking the shipping of food to the Oceanians, and its so-called diplomats are threatening to block humanitarian aid shipments to the Oceanians with armed force, is not only hypocritical, but downright laughable.

We remind the world community that the genocidal Sevevillean Empire has presented zero proof that any of the attacks carried out against it have been carried out by Oceanians. We furthermore note that we will be escalating our presence on the islands of Altos and Stratis to an additional 24 strike aircraft (for a total of 48 strike aircraft, 24 transport aircraft, and their attending crews). We note that this action is within all rights under international law, as we have the appropriate invitations for said forces.

Once more we implore the world community to join all people of good will in putting an end to the actions of the genocidal Sevevillean Empire.

That is all.
May the Gods Help Oceania.

May the Gods Continue to Help Allanea.

The Kamooko Pact on September Island has protested against the announced Sevevillian incursion into their jurisdiction, saying that just because Altos and Stratis has not respected the island's neutrality does not mean Sevevill has license to do that same. The KP has announced that any Sevevillian forces within September Island waters or on September Island soil will be treated the same as those from Altos and Stratis, and their moves will be resisted by force.

September Island Defence Force soldiers scramble to mobilize in the face of two hostile encroachments

Luc Pai, the leading KP official on September Island, has asked Sevevill for time for the Pact and SIDF to expel the Altosians and Stratisians themselves. He has promised that, should the Kamooko Pact fail to maintain military control of the island, he will ask Kamooko to revoke September's neutral status and accept the legality of a Sevevillian intervention.

In the meantime, the KP has urged both the pro-UCSO coalition and Sevevill to leave the island, and, as Altos and Stratis' defence ministry suggested, meet to sign a binding agreement on the island's neutrality.

Capt. Marcus Brayfield, On Approach to September Island:

As the Globemaster arced through the sky, Brayfield couldn't help but muse over the differences in how he had come to and left Altaguay. His troops had flown in to the small nation fresh from the battlefields of the Green Union, sputtering over the sea in a cramped Hercules which still had bullet holes and shrapnel damage. Now they were leaving in a Durranese strategic transport, with the powerful, steady hum of working engines and room inside to spare.

The LAF captain looked around the plane, taking in the faces he saw. So many of them were new, having rotated in to Altaguay in the weeks and months after the battle of Altara International. And though many were themselves veterans of the war in the Green Union homeland, they had only heard of the horror of Arcadian airstrikes and mortars secondhand, had no way of comprehending for themselves the terror of the enemies which truly lay out there in the wide world.

But then, they could also not know the feeling of disbelieving wonder, absolute pride at the sight of so many, Albatanians, Placeodermsians, and Green Union Loyalists, doing their part side to fight back and ultimately, amazingly, win the day. The news had reported it, and the world had heard it, but only those who were there could truly know it:

Kamooko was strong, Kamooko was united, and Kamooko would stand.

“Releasing weapons”
There was a shudder as the first AGM-7 dropped free. The Talon Bane shuddered violently as the missiles on the wings dropped free.
After what seemed like an eternity, Alice called “We are Winchester, take us home Major.”
“1-1 this is 1-2, we are outbound Winchester”
“Panthera this is Blaze, we are outbound Winchester”
“Panthera copies, we are standing by to relay BDA.
Technicians watched through their screens as the hundred missile blips streaked toward the Sevevillian blockade, searching for targets.

IPN. Imperial Monarch. A Prince Class Battleship.

Admiral Blackburn. 5th Fleet 6th Navy

The Prince class battleship was the second biggest ship in the Sevillian navy. And currently the Imperial Monarch was his. Although he would soon be taking command of the fleets pride the SVN Princess Hazel as he was soon to become Head Admiral. Most likely after this war was drawn to a close. But for now he took his job with pride and would continue to do it as he had been ordered. He looked over the bridge of the current grouping he was in. Around five ships slowly bouncing over the waves... It was unusually calm...

Admrial... you know what they say. Calm weather does not always mean there will be calm. Capitan Jeverson said cleverly as he walked up behind.

Nonesense. Its just like... his words dropped off as he looked at the radar. A unknown plane was spotted on the very outskirts of their detection range... Do we have any planes in the air around here other than the ones we were told about?

No Sir... None that I was informed of...

Shhhwishh BOOM red alarms started to blare as the ship rocked violently and the crew in the bridge were knocked onto the deck.

GET THE GOD DAMMED DAMAGE REPORT! He yelled at countless confused officers as they wandered aimlessly around the bridge after climbing to their feet. The large battleship was slowly listing into the water. Blackburn walked up closer to a cracked window and looked. The ship next to them a Frigate named the SVN Dauntless was burning feircly from her side as she started to list drastically. The crew diving into the fridged waters belew. In the background a officer was calling for help over a radio.

Sir she is filling with water. It would appear we were speared from something on the SVN Dauntless... The bulkheads were not sealed in time and we have taken on water in three compartments with number five filling at a constant rate. The engineers cant get down to them. Said a crewman who walked up behind him.

Very well. Abandon ship. Tell crew to attempt to get the helicopter up before they abandon. he said grimly as he watched his prized battleship list into the waves below. The officers started to slowly one by one leave their posts as he and the captain stood and watched the IPN Dauntless slip below the waves. Most of her crew most likely still trapped in the ship... The lifeboats still tucked into their positions. There were crew men in the water around her as she slipped below the waves... As visibly stunned as him.
Let us leave the Imperial to find her final resting place... she would want to be left in silence in her final moments. He said turning to leave the ship... His white uniform still as good as he could muster he walked off to board one of the last lifeboats aboard. The capitan in tow. As they left the ship they could see the empty helipad and a incoming seaplane belonging to one of the carriers come to try and rescue crew from the Dauntless. There were lifeboats and some small dinghies from the other frigates doing the same thing. But unfortunately the Imperial Navy had lost two fine ships to a unknown threat. But he knew something too amazing for words would be occurring on the coasts of the shore.

The shore of Altos and Stratis
"All units, the code is now, Roll Tide, I repeat, Roll Tide, over."

On airfields across Altos and Stratis, Allanean pilots ran towards their aircraft, slamming their helmets onto their shoulders as they ran. Engines roared as the first planes threw themselves along the runways and up into the skies, and sped down the shore.

The force was a small one – less than fifty aircraft, rising slowly into the skies as they sped towards the shore, and then towards the very edge of the national waters of Altos and Stratis – but no further. At once, and simultaneously with this, the stealth cargo planes that had been biding their time to this moment also took to the air.

The aircraft maintained radio silence as they flew – receiving messages, but broadcasting none. As they sped forward, they were under the protection of the allied nation's air defense envelope – the attack aircraft, rising higher and higher into the air, the cargo aircraft, riding dangerously low over the ground.

Ten miles from the shore, the aircraft began to fire their weapons. Each carried only two missiles – but oh, what missiles they were! They sped towards their targets, the stealthy geometry of their bodies and the priceless, radar-absorbent paint on their wings and fuselages making them seem, at least on radar, to be the size of a swallow. They, too, sent no messages – they received merely guidance from the Allanean drones and ground stations, guiding them to the areas where groups of Sevevillean ships were last observed. There, as they arrived, their radar and image recognition cameras would activate, speeding them towards the largest Sevevillean warships available – and if there were none, then towards frigates.

But beyond the missiles – of which, as we said, there were about 94 – there were also other weapons the Allaneans launched. Each of the attack craft launched about a dozen narrow, long, needle-like missiles, which began to speed towards the Sevevillean fleets – but on radar, they were neither narrow nor needle-like. There, they had the radar signature of substantially larger missiles. They were radar decoys.

Thus, Sevevillean operators now received signals that showed they were under attack by near a thousand missiles. Which of the signals were real? Which were fake? The clock was ticking.

Operation Battle Axe

Operation battle axe will be the four pronged attack of the UCSO with over 500,000 Imperial Soldiers, Tanks and other things that will be used and needed by the Imperial forces. It will start with a invasion of September Island before moving on to the mainland days after the invasion of the September Islands (a no longer nutral nation as it is under contention by Altos & Stratis along with the Kp forces.) Imperial soldiers will then ship from Austia and Urilas... Along with having troop ships that were already deployed with battle fleets on the side of the island. With this starts part one of Operation Battle Axe

Part One
Part one of operation battle axe includes the invasion and capture of September Island, A long contested but sratigic landing point for the UCSO mainland. Offering perfect re-supply points on the main island of UCSO
Sevillian Orbat for part one of invasion
Branches Involved: Imperial Marines, Imperial Army, Imperial Air Force

Soldiers: Around 70,000 soldiers will be utilized for the inital capture of the September Islands,

Aircraft, SG-80 Fighter Jets, SG-77 Fighters, SG-26 Bombers, SG-548H Attack Helicopters, Blackhawk Troop Helicopters

Tanks/vehicles: K3 Tanks M1 Abramas Tanks, Humvees, Troop Trucks, APC-4 BMP-5

Image
The Sevillian APC-4 A amphibous landing craft with the capability to hold up to 50 soldiers per APC.
Lt. John Davis. 1st Kings Own 1st Marines. In a landing ship aproaching the September Island
They neared the shores of the September Island with the singular goal to secure the beachhead and allow the larger troop transports to land more soldiers, tanks, humvees and other equipment to get to shore. Although they were obviosly coming he hoped the forces on the island would not be able to withstand the oncoming assualt.

A request came by way of the King. Alexander Blaken-Kazansky, God bless him for his enthusiasm, was engaged once again in a bout of well intentioned interventionism. While the office of Overlord Samoth Uyghur was burdened with many such requests from partners and allies in all corners, it was an obligation, bound by honor, to respond. After all, despite all the struggles and hardships faced by the Aumanii people throughout their history, in the change and turmoil that had threatened to overwhelm them... The one singular constant was Alexander Blaken-Kazansky's friendship.

It was not his place to refuse a request so minor from such a good friend, so the Overlord assented without even reading the proposal.

"Give the Allaneans what ever they need and then give them anything they could want." Said the Overlord, his tone wasn't particularly concerned. He was oozing confidence, as always. A small contribution to the order and stability of the Earth such as three divisions of mechanized infantry, a few dozen strategic lifters, some naval task forces and an air wing of fighters represented very little in the grand scheme. Naturally, the assumption would be that these forces remained under Aumanii command and pursued Aumanii interests, so long as they did not contradict those of their Greater Prussian allies.

An advanced liaison team composed of consuls, diplomats and military facilitators arrived in Altos and Stratis first, far in advance of the others that would soon follow. They would establish lines of communication with the local government and immediately build relationships with their military, seeking out means to billet the Aumanii engineers that would come next, to build more permanent lodgings and air fields from which the Aumanii Air Force could operate. The entire process would take weeks, though in the meantime, strategic lifters would routinely cross the vast distance between Morsus Terra in Prussia, to Altos and Stratis in Markion, delivering supplies and building equipment at first, then men and war materiel afterward.

In a matter of days, three mechanized brigades taken from their division's ready groups were deployed in the region, taking up positions in the rear and preparing for the possibility of conflict, in defense of their ally's ally. The men were kept well away from the civilians. The Overlord would not like to hear news of any wrongdoing and the men would prefer to avoid punishment should their temptations get the best of them.

Aumanii pilots were given the benefit of doubt, their Si-22MK air superiority fighters mingled on the tarmac with passenger liners in airports in Altos and Stratis and their crews given the opportunity to live among the people of this great nation in rented apartments. Such were the benefits of service in our Overlord's Aumanii Air Force... Whilst the Navy crossed the turgid waters of the great oceans for weeks on end to reach safe harbors, bringing on a number of battleships, aircraft carriers and their much needed, and firmly requested, escorts.

Lt.

Luc Pai, Kamooko Pact SI Headquarters, September City, September Island:

One would think the man in charge of guaranteeing September Island’s independence would appear at least a small bit concerned right now. Here he was in his office, behind the same desk which he had sat behind for months. There were still the same pictures on the walls, the same plant in the sill, which had been there since the very beginning of their mandate. Not a single thing was out of place, that could have indicated to the most observant observer that something terrible was on its way. Even the man’s demeanour was precisely the same, but surely that just meant he was exceptionally good at hiding his panic.

Well, actually, no. Even inside his head, nothing much had changed for Mr. Pai. The veteran diplomat and social worker knew what was inevitable at this point, and was simply preparing for it with all his usual faithfulness.

That was, at least, until his military counterpart burst through the door.

Ms. Glace was not happy, “Why the hell do I have written orders to not go to the front?”

Luc sighed, putting down his pen. “Because, there is non sense you being killed. You are required for the continued functioning of the mission.”

Glace made an irate and not altogether polite motion with her hands, “If the Imps get a toehold, we won’t have a mission!”

“Not entirely true. After our symbolic resistance ends, the Sevevillians will potentially allow us to continue our work.”

Glace froze at those words, her eyes growing icy. “What are you doing?”

“The best option at our disposal. As soon as we receive news that the Sevevillians have landed, I will send these orders to surrender. The delay in between will allow for enough fighting that we are seen to have put in an effort. In this way, we preserve our standing with both Kamooko, for limiting losses, and the international community, for putting up a fight.”

Glace’s expression suddenly turned from shock to horror. Her fists balled, and the tendons in her neck started tightening. “Our mandate is to actually protect this island,” she growled, “not just pretend to!”

“Look around you, Major. You knew months ago that this was hopeless. You took a gamble, and got us into this mess.”

“Then let me get us out of it.”

“It’s impossible. You will just get more people killed and our reputation tarnished.”

“We’ll give them a bloody nose, at the very least.”

Mr. Lai just scoffed in exasperation. “You can’t, and that’s final.”

“Just you watch me.” Glace spat, and swung her fist square into Luc’s face.

As the little man bent over his desk, blindly and furiously searching for a tissue, he was only vaguely aware of Major Liso Glace speaking with a group outside the door.

“Mr. Pai is no longer in command. He is not to be permitted to leave his room, or send or receive any messages. Long live September.”

“Long live September!”

. . .

The September Island Defence Forces and their Kamooko Pact allies had only around one fully combat ready division at their disposal, but they were regardless determined to hold their ground. From the first moment a coastal patrol An-2 spotted the invasion fleet amassing, the small formations moved to their fronts.

September Island, for better or worse, was a windswept rock largely ringed in tall cliffs. It had very few suitable beaches for landing an invasion, and these were covered extensively by both dictatorship and UCSO occupation-era fortifications. Of course, many of those had either been destroyed or demilitarized once the transition to democratic government began, but there would still be sufficient installations and weaponry to make the Sevevillians work for their victory.

Pictured: One of many rear area checkpoints being thrown up by the SIDF across the new country, in anticipation of Sevevillian moves

During the joint Arcadian-Sevevillian-Vilhalan counter invasion of September Island, the first wave of Arcadian landings had made use of hovercraft transports to deploy forces onto the beaches. This allowed them to make use of a greater area of shoreline, and stretch their Oceanian opponents more thinly. However, these early reports on Sevevillian movements have suggested that they are carrying out their first waves purely with amphibious APCs. This greatly limits the possible areas of shoreline they can access, and so has allowed the SIDF to focus their efforts.

Old bunkers and pillboxes have been broken open and occupied, makeshift barricades have been thrown up on the beaches, and the weapon deactivation stockpiles have begun handing back out their equipment. September Island would fight.

The Green Union wrote:Capt.

Capt. Marcus Brayfield, Gateway International Airport, September City, September Island:

They had hardly been on the ground for ten minutes before a young local soldier was running up to him, waving a radio.

“Sir! Major Glace wants to speak with you!”

Marc was already stressed. On their final approach to the island they had heard news that the Sevevillians were making their move, but he had hoped someone else would be able to deal with the issue for at least the next few hours, while he and his troops got unloaded and acquainted with the situation. But there was no time for that. His new commanding officer already had instructions for them.

And quite a list of instructions it was. They were to oversee preparations to destroy September Island’s extensive stocks of war materiel and infrastructure, left over from the militarized dictatorship. Runways, barracks, and command centres were to be be prepared to be demolished. Fuel and weapons stocks were to be wired to explode. In short, anything which Sevevill may use to invade Oceania needed to go.

This would require Brayfield’s company to spread itself thin across the island, and work with local officials to ensure pre-planned efforts were going as discussed. If they suspected their positions were about to fall, they were to blow the charges. If they ran into any light Sevevillian air insertions, they were to blow the charges. If they lost contact with headquarters, they were to blow the charges.

“But Ma’am,” Brayfield said nervously, “aren’t we needed at the front? Isn’t the job to protect the people of this island?”

“Captain, our mandate here is to keep September neutral. At the very least, this means stopping the combatants from using her materiel and infrastructure. Now get to it; you’re on the clock.”

Admiral Blackburn. 5th Fleet 6th Navy, Seas between Altos and Oceania:

The Sevevillian Admiral stood on the deck of their small orange craft, somehow still immaculate even as the boat was tossed to and fro, sea foam kicked up all over their feet, and burning cinders fluttered down to cake everything else.

The man gazed out, not towards the blazing wrecks of his ships as they slipped below, but up at the rescue helicopter as it descended towards them. The others shielded themselves from the whipping wind and salty spray it brought, but Blackburn did not flinch. Nothing seemed to touch him.

As the SG-566H splashed down into the waves and hauled itself in close, Admiral Blackburn gave a cursory farewell to his companions. None of them expressed even the briefest hint of envy as their leader stepped briskly onto the helicopter, leaving them to float. All knew the importance of him returning to his work, especially at this time.

Blackburn took his seat as the helicopter took off, a crew member handing him a pair of headphones. The man hesitated only briefly, then put them on, to be greeted immediately by the cacophony of damage and casualty reports, distress calls, and general panic.

In the mere minutes of him being out of action, another salvo of incoming contacts had been spotted, this time well over a thousand. The number seemed impossible to the seasoned Sevevillian sailor, but after seeing an Imperial battleship keel over onto its side, the other officers on the radio seemed willing to accept anything.

“It is only a trick.” Blackburn said firmly, shutting up this arguing subordinates. Expect almost all of them to be decoys.”

“But Sir,” someone protested, “even if we fired every countermissile-“

“You will not fire anything.” the Admiral ordered, “I want all ships putting a broadside against this incoming volley. Maximize laser and kinetic close in weapons able to get on target, and do not engage until you have visual confirmation about which are missiles and which are decoys.”

“Sir, the IPN Duchess Grey has helos and seaplanes in the air. They’ll give us a few extra seconds of visual data.” Many were no doubt kicking themselves at this point for how their aircraft screen had been neglected before this moment.

That was when someone yelled that the contacts were almost on top of them. Blackburn leaned forward in his seat to gaze out the window, watching his ships swing around to fight. But then he started, noticing which ship they were themselves descending towards.

“Pilot,” the admiral inquired, “are we landing on the Duchess Grey?”

“Yessir.”

Blackburn finally lost his cool, “Get us as far away from here as you can! Those missiles are targeting our large surface combatants, and you think we should be going towards our battleship?!”

In the same exact moment that their helicopter banked hard to the side, the enemy missiles came into view of the circling aircraft. In an instant, the warships had confirmation of which targets to fire on, and the CIWS opened up.

A torrent of tracers and missile trails filled the sky as the Imperial ships scrambled desperately to save themselves. And while the scene of exploding targets over the ocean surface was, for that split second, impressive, the defense was just too little, too late.

Dozens of missiles connected, tearing massive gashes in the sides of the Sevevillian Imperial ships. Shrapnel from those destroyed in close filled the sky, peppering their intended targets with thousands of paper cuts. The main victim, of course, was the IPN Duchess Grey, another Prince-Class battleship of the 5th Fleet. Her hull was punctured repeatedly, with craters that could have been caused by a reckless city bus punching straight into her innards.

Blackburn’s rescue helicopter was not spared. Shockwaves and shrapnel caught the tiny craft and sent it spinning, turning nose over tail over and over again while the admiral, gripping his seat in grim silence, was convinced that this was the end.

But it was not quite, and soon the pilot had them under control. As the shock faded, damage reports were already coming in. The IPN Duchess Grey was already gone. No one had seen her sink, but the space she once occupied on the surface was now empty. To accompany her would soon go two Sunshine-Class frigates, the IPN Fearless and IPN Terror, which were currently burning on the surface. At least a couple more frigates were badly damaged, but would probably live on. While only five ships total would be sunk in these attacks, it reduced the fleet to only her frigates.

Blackburn just sighed. It could have been much worse if the weather hadn’t been clear. But there was no time to dwell on that.

“Take us to the IPN Blackflag.”

And so, with oil leaking and the helicopter shuddering like a wounded fly, they did just that.

President Joseph Henry, Seve City, Sevevill:

“Mr. President, there really is no other explanation.”

President Joseph Henry sat in silence, his face clouded as he was briefed on the news. What had been meant as a short punitive expedition had ballooned into the beginnings of a total war, and one the president had no heart to engage in.

At length, the silence became unnerving. The president’s advisors shifted nervously, not sure what their infamously split personality boss was thinking. Then, out of nowhere, Henry slammed his hand on the table. Everyone jumped.

“Those fucking islanders! They think they can butt in where they don’t belong, and make a fool out of Sevevill?!”

“Tell the fifth fleet to pull back to safer waters. We’ll only patrol that area with planes from now on. And as for these traitors on Altos and Stratis . . .”

“I approve of revenge strikes. Take out their ports first; They can’t get help from outside the region if their allies have nowhere to unload.”

New Kamooko Pact Service Rifle In Production

Kamooko Pact engineers have been hard at work in Yamakan Ward in Ryune, developing the new service rifle of the Kamooko Defence Command alongside the Yamakan Arms Company, some CR remnants, and Metro Arms. The rifle is looking to be derived from a simplified version of the modular NB-45 rifle currently in service with the Confederate Defence Forces of the CSD. Fortunately, there is already a pattern of rifle which is very close to the required specifications. The PB-45 rifle was developed for the Confederate Defence Forces of the CSD but rejected due to ergonomic concerns. The KDC, interested along the same lines in arming a large force very quickly, has been optimistic about adapting the spartan design for their own purposes.

Like the NB-45, the PB-45 is a bullpup infantry rifle chambered in 4.5x47mm Yamakan. However, very little of the gun is actually compatible with its parent system. The simplified gun operates on a direct impingement system, blowing gas straight into the bolt. It is almost entirely made of polymers and stamped steel all very tightly pieced together, with even “routine” cleaning requiring a screwdriver just to access the bolt. The design is being considered as a fallback rifle for the CSD should another Kalto-Durranese War break out, as a result of its ease of manufacture.

The Kamooko Pact has been working to modify the PB-45 for its own purposes, scaling back some of the more extreme design simplifications and tweaking for parts compatibility with the more common Pact platforms. The first prototypes of the new “K1” rifle were unveiled today in Kamooko, with high and mid level military representatives from all KP members arriving for a demonstration and photo opportunity.

The models displayed were bullpup, right handed only rifles with fairly standard 508mm barrels and non adjustable aperture sights.

Overall, the military brass seemed fairly optimistic when given a chance to see and operate the weapon, though how much of this was merely a show for the cameras is hard to tell.

The Parliamentary Green Union officers displayed some aversion to the crude-looking weapon, particularly its sights and handling, but were appeased when handed a model mounted with their familiar C79 scope. After this, they were impressed with its accuracy potential for a small cartridge, and even hinted at supporting the omission of iron sights altogether in future.

The Placeodermsians were pleased with the compactness of the platform, and especially with the 4.5x47mm cartridge, which is small and lightweight. The Placeodermsians noted that this weapon would be both more compact that their current SCAR line, and more powerful than their Kar. 95G. This, apparently, would be a winning combination in an APC.

The Albatanians seemingly sent one teenaged intern, who proceeded to fire from the hip all the ammunition handed to them before saying “Just like the simulations” and leaving.

The Durranese, used to their more finely finished NB-45, were not entirely happy about holding essentially a less fine version of the same thing but were glad nonetheless that they would not need to change their service rifle or cartridge, more so that others were adopting theirs.

In Oceania

With the Sevevillean fleet busy fighting for its very life, the stealth cargo planes had darted across the pass. It had taken them a bare hour to cross the strait, and now they were landing, some at runways, and others at open fields.

The cargo they carried was cheap, but it was also precious. In Oceania, it was more precious than even silver, for it would soon save hundreds, perhaps thousands of lives.

Stacked in the hold of each of the planes in jute bags was buckwheat- thirty-six and a half tons of the stuff for each plane, nearly nine hundred tons all in all.

The Allanean crew pitched into the work, beginning to heft the heavy bags, from pilot to pilot to loadmaster to loadmaster to navigator, and from navigator to whatever ground staff were present – every bag the very equivalent of thousands of meals. They worked and worked and worked, until their arms ached from hefting the bags, like villagers working together to hand buckets of water from one hand to another in a fire.

"What is this stuff?" – asked one of the Oceanian airfield workers in confusion. The man had been weakened by his awful diet, and where the Allanean pilot raised the fifty-kilo bag and handed it to the Oceanians, three of them were needed to place it on its trolley.

"It's buckwheat" – said the Allanean "it's a staple food in some countries."

"How do we prepare it?"

"Any way you like. Hot water works. If your hot water has been cut off, leave it in a covered bowl of cold water overnight, and it'll be good to eat. Just not very tasty, but still food."

"Wow." – said the airport worker. His own home had no electricity for the past ten days.

"It's about as nutritious as rice" – said the Allanean. "A pound a day will keep a man alive. That bag will last a man a hundred days. Badly of course."

As all this happened, a tall, moustached man walked among the airfield workers. He was also – unlike most Oceanians at this point – substantially overweight.

"Good day!" – he said, his voice booming like a fog horn. "I am Colonel Samuel Petrovich Kirilenko! I am the Commander of this Special Airlift Regiment! I want someone here to call the nearest hospital or orphanage or whatever place has lots of sick and hungry people here. We have the room to airlift fifteen hundred people to Altos and Stratis, and we are not leaving until we are loaded!"

He looked atound, waiting for the meaning of these words to sink in.

"And I want you to tell the people in your families, I want you to tell your friends at work, I want every last man and woman and child to know! Tell them that Colonel Samuel Petrovich Kirilenko, of the 213th Special Airlift Regiment, has said so! Tell them that Freemen are here!"

* * *

The Sevevilleans were pulling back from the Killbox. This was a surprise. The Allaneans expected the enemy to cling to this patch of sea, or at least to send more squadrons to hold it. Nevertheless, the Allaneans would take it.

The Sea Cow, ladened with its cargo, left its dock in Altos and Stratis. As it went on, it took itself deeper, to fifty meters below, where it was nearly at the sea floor. It would proceed North-East, through the Killbox, through the very areas that the Sevevilleans had just left.

It would be on target within 25 hours.

"Brother," Deac asked, curling a wad of chew from his upper lip with his tongue and spitting, "Why do you believe that we are here?"

The two men were patrolling the land surrounding Aumanii Air Force Base Tarek Byalach on foot, getting the lay of the land and shooting the shit. Deacon and Duke Handsome, identical twins from the suburbs of Vascilia City, were about as Aumanii as people could get. Gruff, straight talking and analytical, the Brothers Handsome would have been perfect candidates for Army recruitment posters. They were muscular, determined to succeed and subject to a ninety-nine year media black out. Members of the elite Special Unit, these operators were considered the absolute pinnacle of the Sphere's fighting prowess.

"Well, I am not particularly sure how to answer this question, brother, as I am not currently aware of the context in which you have posed it. Why are we here? Were we placed here on this Earth by an intelligent creator who loves us and wants us to be happy or are we perhaps some fluke of nature, an assemblance of pions, ions or perhaps the elements cast off by the mighty explosions of dying stars, splitting that void of space with a thunderous fury proclaiming their magnificence, even upon their demise? I would much prefer the former, as that would mean our Lord in Heaven had placed us here at this specific moment in the history of our great universe to defeat His enemies and drive evil before us, preferably in the throes of intense, all consuming agony." Duke stopped for a brief moment to stroke his bushy auburn mustache and adjust his underwear, which had ridden up his butt crack.

"I was more considering why we were here, my brother. In this nation of Altos and Stratis... Which I may add is a might bit dusty for my personal liking." Deac kicked a patch of loose gravel and rich, brown, soil that wafted away on the wind. The climate here was dry and semi-arid, reminding Deac of the sub-alpine terrain in which they committed to their mountaineering courses some time ago.

"Brother, I do not rightly know what grand geopolitical chicanery ultimately conspired to bring us to this place, which I had scarcely heard about until the moment we boarded our Drop Eagle to embark upon our most holy mission. I do, however believe, with the utmost conviction, that we were sent here with a purpose by our most Heavenly Father, via the machinations of His Prophet Zemel Caine, peace be upon He, and also through the will of our most benevolent Overlord, to bring peace to this land and visit the most harsh possible justice upon its enemies. Our Lord's wrath, embodied through us, shall achieve the most ultimate and final victory, brother." Duke continued on, walking up the steep slope of a logging road leading into a pine forest. Big Horn sheep, grazing on fronds of neon green and purple grasses, looked towards the Brothers Handsome and, suddenly, were spooked by the thunderous crack of an Si-22MK air superiority fighter flying low over the treeline.

"Amen brother." Said Deac, through a thick wad of chew he had just recently padded from his tin.

"A-fuckin-men brother."

The Green Union wrote:The September Island Defence Forces and their Kamooko Pact allies had only around one fully combat ready division at their disposal, but they were regardless determined to hold their ground.

Lt. John Davis, 1st Kings Own 1st Marines, Off the Coast of September Island:

Even before hitting the beach, problems were already starting. All of a sudden their craft was being kicked to and fro by light artillery. The irregular exclamations of shells striking the sea was an unwelcome one, especially since they had been briefed that the local Kamooko Pact-aligned troops were little more than a glorified police.

Davis stood up in his infantry officer’s seat, getting a view through his personal cupola of what lay ahead. It was a beautiful, clear day, but even so it was hard to peer past the sea spray to tell what lay at their destination. Still, peer he did, and after a few moments Lt. Davis did make out the disturbing sight of muzzle flashes, all along the coast.

Had they really so slow, so obvious in their approach that the enemy had got heavy calibre artillery and autocannons in place?

Suddenly, someone down below yelled up to him. The troops wanted to know what lay ahead. Not one to mince words, Davis told them what he had seen. It did nothing to inspire confidence. Soldiers murmured nervously. Some started praying.

“Oh, come on!” John just scoffed, “You’re the King’s Own! You’re the guys who kicked Commie ass in LFN! You killed so many Arcadians in Dacruz that even our allies are afraid of us! Some of you in this very boat parachuted into the Green Union, and lived with the fucking bears!”

Some of the troops chuckled at that. Others cracked a solemn smile.

“Every single one of you is a fucking legend, and you are not going to be beaten by a bunch of old hippies who live on an island in the middle of the sea!”

The September Island Defence Forces and their Kamooko Pact allies had scrambled to put together as good of a first line as they could. Sevevill’s reckless landing attempt gave them an opportunity to capitalize on the exposed moment of initial landing, and this is exactly what they had intended to do, inflicting maximum casualties and delaying the invasion for as long as possible.

At first, this seemed to go reasonably well. The Sevevillian landers came in at a craw, moving slowly along the anticipated approaches. They were quickly hit by light artillery and autocannon fire, which caused some of the carriers to flounder.

As the first transports paddled up to the beach, all the AFV autocannons, heavy machine guns, and small arms from the pillboxes and improvised fortifications opened up. The invading infantry, funnelled into killing zones on the open sand, went to ground or were shot dead as their attack grounded to a temporary halt. For a moment it looked as if the defenders may actually have a chance.

But then the Sevevillian air cover came in, and hope quickly faded.

After opening fire and exposing their positions, the Sevevillians realized that they had miscalculated the strength and resolve of their enemy. Most, no doubt, had expected September Island and the Kamooko Pact to welcome them as liberators and not resist at all. But when it became clear that a fight would be happening, SG-80N fighters of the Sevevillian invasion fleet wasted no time in redirecting to over the beaches.

Maj. Liso Glace, Southeastern Coast of September Island:

All of this was way above the pay grade of a Major.

Glace was not qualified or equipped in any way to coordinate a battle at the division level. Her mandate up until now had included only a battalion of Kamooko Pact observers, with those requests to Kamooko for a full strength regiment falling on deaf ears.

And yet now that things were going wrong, she had suddenly been thrust into command of over ten thousand September Island and Kamooko Pact soldiers, becoming the de-facto leader who even local generals were deferring to. And it was terrifying.

Their makeshift bunker, set up in a school basement, suddenly shook violently. Lights flickered. Officers looked up from their phones and maps.

“Airstrikes.” Glace swore, remembering the small quantity of antiquated SIDF AAA vehicles she had inspected before these current hostilities, “Are we able to deny them use of the coastal airspace?”

“Maybe for a few hours, if we sacrifice all our ZSU platforms.”

“And if we try to preserve them? How many MANPADS have we scrounged up?”

“Several hundred rockets haven’t been cut up yet,” one of the local logistics officers responded, “but there’s delays getting them out of the junk piles and to the front.”

They went on like this, assessing their host of bad options, for quite some time. Sevevill’s strength was their air power, which would be most effective closer to the coasts, and trying to hold the beachheads to the last would mean sacrificing most of their main combat capabilities. But yielding to overwhelming force on the coasts would mean letting the Sevevillians land heavier forces earlier, not to mention initiating the nightmare of withdrawing under fire.

But there was not much time to deliberate, and everyone was looking to Glace for a way forward. Begrudgingly, she made a decision she hoped she would not regret.

“Hold the harbourfront as long as we can with the forces already there. We can’t sacrifice our heavy weapons this early on.”

Lt. John Davis, 1st Kings Own 1st Marines, Southeastern of September Island:

“Come on, you dumb fucks!” Davis yelled, grabbing one of his huddling soldiers and propelling the kid forward, “We’ve got islanders to kill!”

The first fire from the defenders had left his troops scattered, but this Sevevillian lieutenant was no pansy. He had shot his way through too many countries to let himself be beaten by a bunch of backwards island people.

“Fix bayonets,” he yelled, “and follow me!”

Their initial assault was slower than anticipated. So slow, in fact, that Davis half wanted to just stand tall for the enemy machine gunners and spare himself the humiliation of having to engage in such a sad excuse for a charge. Still, esprit de corps can only carry a unit so far, and the hundred meters to the closest seafront houses wasn’t going to be covered at a sprint. They moved slowly, under cover from eachother, launching copious amounts of grenades to suppress the enemy and racking up more than their fair share of casualties in return.

But all that changed when the enemy barricade in front of them suddenly exploded into the sky.

Even before the debris of scrap metal and splintered wood started raining down around them, men were whooping and hollering. “Fuck yeah! Flyboys will always have our backs!”

They approached quicker, as more and more airstrikes hit the enemy defenders. By the time they reached the village’s first line of beachfront houses, there was barely a shot being fired in retaliation. Davis’ troops met up with others from the First Kings Own, and their elite unit, pride of the Sevevillian Empire, swept through the settlement. The local soldiers were thrown into a panic and slaughtered, and pretty soon the troops were on the highest hill in town, watching as one of the lucky privates, still under fire, climbed onto the roof of a house and raised the first Sevevillian flag over September Island soil.

In a harbor in Oceania

The water seemed to boil up with white foam, and momentarily the ocean's surface bulged and split open, letting out an enormous, black form. It was somewhat like a whale, but much larger than any whale known to man. Its back glistened like the back of a sea monster as water ran off the black, synthetic rubber tiles that covered its entire form. It was, of course, the Sea Cow.

At the prow of the smuggling submarine, on its oversized sail, a hatch opened, and a man with an unkempt, red beard appeared, surveying the harbor.

Or, really, the ruins of the harbor.

Sevevillean bombs and missiles had turned everything that could have been of value here into wreckage. What used to be a pair of portal cranes that would have unloaded the Sea Cow in hours were now two piles of wreckages. Thin wisps of black smoke wafted over the harbor, hinting that something within the ruins was still smoldering even now, days after the attacks had already put the harbor out of commission.

Captain John Bellamy sighed. "Well, that's going to be an interesting day. Someone, raise the port authorities to me."

"If any of them survived this mess." – the Captain's Mate added.

"Well, there has to be someone here. I've offloaded cocaine from a cigarette boat in the dead of night, Vova. This is going to be a great deal easier, not harder."

"…and, here they are!" – the Captain's Mate pointed. Maneuvering between the wrecks of half-sunken cargo ships, a small, orange harbor tag was approaching the Sea Cow.

"Good day!" – Captain Bellamy shouted, raising a bullhorn "You with the Harbormaster?"

"Acting Harbormaster!"

"Same thing! Get someone to unload this thing! We've got ten thousand tons of dried emergency milk, for infants! I bet there are some infants that need this milk, time is money!"

An hour later, the top of the Sea Cow opened up. A small barge with a floating crane pulled over to the side of the sub. Small boats – whatever could be rounded up in the ruins – moved up, and containers stacked with white tins marked with the letters F-75 were hoisted to the boats. Each of those would be life or death to someone's baby.

It took an impossibly long time to unload the sub. Captain Bellamy was awake throughout, and every time he saw a container swing precariously as it was hoisted up or lowered down, he held his breath. He ate and had his tea on the sail, and gulped down caffeine pills to keep himself going.

As the last box left the Sea Cow, he turned to his navigator (the Captain's Mate had gone off to his bunk several hours prior). "Martin, prepare the ship for diving. I'm going to bed. Wake me in eight hours."

In Altos and Stratis

The Allaneans continued airlifting in more supplies, and more men. Like the Aumanii, they now made use of nuclear cargo planes, and like the Aumanii, they expanded their own preparations. Weapons being shipped in – guided missiles, bombs, and the like – and stored at locations where they could be easily used, as was air defense equipment.

Over the same day that the Sea Cow had spent traveling to Oceania, the Allaneans had airlifted in two battalions of long-range air defense launchers. As before, inflatable decoys were also placed, to perplex and deceive the enemy about the launchers' location.

But now that the Aumanii had cleared the way for a much bigger airlift, a much bigger airlift was in fact being planned back home.

The doors were sliding open on immense underground warehouses, where thousands of tons of food had been waiting for an emergency – and over twenty million people being at the brink of starvation was, in fact, an emergency.

In military bases, hundreds of men were dropping whatever they did, as they were being raised with a sudden alarm. Within days, they would also be on their way to Altos and Stratis.

Altos & Stratis Buys 3 Million Tonnes Of Rice From CSD

As the September Conflict rages on and more parties become involved, few have realised the humanitarian crisis currently going on in the region. The Confederate States of Durradon, well known for its mass supplies of food in case of an extended war with Kaltura has recently sold a small part of its stockpile to Altos & Stratis. Some millions of tonnes of grain have been shipped all the way to Placeoderms and is currently being transported via freight trains to the western coast of the well armoured Republic for pick up on the other side by Atosian & Stratisian ships.

The total cost of the supplies has come out at 1.5 Billion Altosian & Stratisian Pecunia, roughly 4.7 billion Durranese Fens. The Confederate government has commented saying that they hope that the situation in September Island and the UCSO comes to a swift end and that little blood is spilt in the fighting.

In other news, KP officials have commented directly and openly towards Sevevill, saying that if they do not cease and desist hostilities towards September Island, its people and KP forces stationed there, they will be forced to pull their support from Diyaristan, potentially destabilising the south and leaving the Mount Kula Administration Zone without adequate support to take on rebel forces in addition to further over extending Imperial forces. As well as this, the KP has stated that if hostilities continue, they will be forced to come out of neutrality and allow pro-UCSO forces to reinforce the island and allow further reinforcements to be stationed on Albatan.

With the conflict boiling over, many Kamooko Defence Command (KDC) leaders have decided to look elsewhere for military equipment. The KDC was initially interested in purchasing from Sevevillian arms companies but have stated that if the conflict continues after this request for peace, the KDC will potentially buy from pro-UCSO countries or other suppliers.

Yuyan Citadel, Jokhai, Durradon

Zhang Qin

The Yuyan Citadel. Part military base and part temple for Buddhists and Durranese animists alike. The place was built roughly one thousand, one hundred years ago. Originally it was a temple, but when Kaltura invaded, it served as an excellent, central point in the old Confederacy to gather forces and train men. Slowly over time, the building grew. From a humble temple to a citadel and testament of Durranese military engineering and construction. That's what Qin's father said about it. His father always told him about how one day he would have to grow up and become a man, but the only way he could do that was by dedicating himself to the great cause and becoming a full-time soldier. Becoming a soldier in the Confederate Army was no joke. From this point on Qin would train every day for years. He wasn't going to be a common part-time soldier, he was going to be apart of the elite. If he wasn't dead, he would be training.

The truck rocked a little as it passed over some rough ground. Qin came out of his daydream as the recruit in front of him spoke. "Ah, look whose finally awake!" The boy grinned and patted Qin's knee, "We've just crossed the border into the Citadel's land if you don't know already, we get to see all the monks farming our dinner for tonight." The boy was taller than most others there and had a shaved head down to the skin. He seemed to have a natural smile and radiated a welcoming aura. Qin spoke back. "You're quite lively for one whose about to be beaten near to death, what's your name? My last name is Zhang." The boy perked up, "So formal! My first name is Xuan, and one must keep a good attitude if one is to be beaten for the rest of my military career!" The truck laughed and smiled together. "Fair enough, my name is Qin."

Just as Xuan said, the truck came over the hill and before Qin's eyes, he saw miles of fields being used for farming. Monks were tending to crops or animals and going about day to day chores and still their faces beamed with joy as the day's monotonous tasks went on. But sticking out of the flat farming grounds that went on for miles was what they were heading to, the citadel. Qin was mildly disappointed but still amazed. The grand citadel was not a tall fortress with battlements that went on for miles, it did not have a massive keep that stretched up into the sky. Qin's father had never described it as such, but Qin always imagined it like that. Despite this, awe still struck the lad of sixteen years, along with the rest of his peers. Rather than tall, the citadel was wide and stretched across a large swathe of land. Its ancient walls were painted regularly and looked beautiful but were short and stocky. The temple within the walls was wide and flat topped but angled enough that rains might fall off of it. Although the temple was Buddhist, Durranese animists still treated it as a place of pilgrimage. What seemed like hundreds of other buildings dotted the inside of the fort, a mixture of barracks, store houses and more.

As the truck closed into Yuyan, Xuan made everyone jolt. "Woah! See all those other trucks? They're packed with recruits!" Qin looked up and saw many convoys of trucks coming from many different roads and directions. "I've never seen so many, even in the movies..." Xuan smirked at Qin and replied, "They're from the cities, we've had parades in the street recently encouraging people to join up, you're telling me you didn't see that? You a horse herder or somethin'?" Qin turned to his new friend, "Yeah, did the sweet scent of our national animal tip you off?" Xuan pinched his nose and waved his other hand as he turned back round to sit after gawking at the swarm of trucks, "Oh, my friend, it gave it off somethin' fierce!" The truck once again erupted with laughter. Qin chuckled with the thought that this whole army thing may not be tiring or dull at all with such a lively bunch along the way. This was the right choice. He thought to himself.
