National Assembly Elections (IC, OPEN, DIPLOMATIC)

Postby Hatay » Sun Apr 02, 2017 1:15 pm

The Hatayan National Assembly holds elections for some seats every 2 years. Is come time for National Assembly Elections in the Republic of Hatay. 150 seats of the 500 seat legislature will be up for election, and 50 of them are expected to be extremely competitive. Currently the Grand Progressive Coalition of the senior partner Liberal Labour Party and junior partnersDemocratic Socialist Party of Hatay and Green Ecologist Party holds power in both houses of Parliament, Senate and National Assembly, as well as the Presidency. The Conservative Party makes up most of the opposition. Many important issues will be debated, and the candidates are ready for a difficult campaign. Parties have begun to organize and prepare for a contentious election for the lower house of Parliament.

Current National Assembly Composition
Liberal Labour Party: 241 Assembly Seats
Conservative Party: 214 Assembly Seats
Democratic Socialist Party of Hatay: 37 Assembly Seats
Nationalist People's Movement: 5 Assembly Seats
Green Ecologist Party: 2 Assembly Seats
Islamic Fundamentalist Union: 1 Assembly Seats

The Liberal Labour Party led by the President of the Republic Ali Golofad campaigns on a liberal platform and a strong economy, he says Hatay has been made stronger socially, economically, and militarily under his administration. Conservative Party led by Riyan Nuha campaigns as the party of low taxes and regulations. They say the Golofad administration has made start-ups difficult and has failed to stabilize the country in terms of Salafist uprisings in the south of the country, they also blame the LLP for the breakup of the First Republican Bank, which made many in the economy nervous. The DSPH campaigns for radical new changes to fight for social and economic justice. They led the charge for the breakup of the First Republican Bank and want more breakups like it. The Nationalist People's Union wants a radical change in Hatay to establish a far more nationalistic and right-wing state, almost based of Nasheed's regime in Bashriyya or Gaddafi's in Libya, and to abandon Hatay's allies like America and Germany. The Green Ecologist Party campaigns for climate action and progressive policies and the IFU for the implantation of Sharia Law and Islamic Economics.
The campaign begins, who will be triumphant?

Ubar
In the mostly Conservative city, several competitive Assembly seats are up for grabs. The Urban center of the city sees its longtime liberal Assemblyman step down, the swing suburbs see a competitive race. The socialists battle the conservatives in the "Dockworker's riding" in the northern part of the city where the Ubar Harbour is. In the northern part of the city, Conservative incumbent Kamil Harith battles socialist challenger and failed mayor candidate Zaina Murad hopes to advance the Democratic Socialist cause in the area, and what may be a rift in the Grand Progressive Coalition (which is not a government, but rather a voting bloc for the liberals as long as they advance progressive goals), the liberals have put up a candidate in the area, the moderate Usman Ikraam to counter Murad's socialism. All candidates have visited dockworkers (who work at the docks, large scale and small) at work, a critical voting demographic in the riding. Harith has launched a campaign over the airwaves, dominating TV and Radio advertising. His message and name recognition gives him a strong advantage, as well as strong financial backing. Murad has had large rallies, rallying large cries with cries of. "Harith may have the support of bankers and investors, but we have the good people of Ubar!" The polls give Harith a five point lead.

Port Uyo
Port Uyo, a city of 1 million people, located to the Far West of the country, closest to Algeria, was dominated by a 79% Black African population, while Arabs dominated the rest of the country. There were no racial tensions however, and racism was not at all prevalent in the city. However, Port Uyo resembled a Gold Coast fishing town then a western cosmopolitan city, quite different from other towns. Fishermen brought in fresh catches of cod and nets full of oysters and mussels. Oxen carries carts full goods on muddy roads. Old men sat chattering to each other on benches, and women brought their children along. The call from prayer from the mosque called out, and the church bells rang. Religiously, the city is quite diverse. Just a slim majority of 52% Sunni Muslim, 22% Catholics, 17% Shi'a Muslim, 5% Greek Orthodox, 3% Indigenous Religion, and 1% Irreligious or other. As for voting, the town was a conservative stronghold most of the time, but a Liberal Assemblyman by the name of Abubakar Tafadzwa had become quite popular in his riding in the city, (it contained two ridings) almost a bit of a local celebrity. Known for being kind, generous, and gregarious. He was jolly, and was known for being quite funny, often cracking jokes alongside people on the streets. He had supported infrastructure development, and while in the Assembly, had secured money to do that. He also fought for the rights of local fishermen against large fishing companies, and was seen by many as a fighter against corrupt corporate interests, socially, he was conservative like most of the city. So when he declared that after 10 years of serving, he would not be running again. The Conservatives took this chance to put forward their candidate, Nnamdi Uduak, a populist who campaigned on revitalizing the city, cleaning up the slums, and campaigning for a vast crack-down on regulations, which he said destroyed the productivity of small and local businesses. In terms of local issues, Uduak has supported a hunt of crocodiles in the cities brown-water ponds, which just recently ate a child, and have eaten lots of fish. The liberals have not taken a position on the issue. The liberals have nominated Ismail Bahadur, another Black African who is less known then Uduak, he was a popular fisherman and activist. Bahadur is a better-off citizen, who works as a Professor in the city. He has supported the legacy of Tafadzwa, though he is far less of a personality then Tafadzwa. Many of the Sunnis in the city are fundamentalist, and the Islamic Fundamentalist Union has nominated the Black African Imam Salim Kofi. Salim Kofi supports strong social conservative policies, and supported the creation of Sharia Law zone in Port Uyo. Currently the Conservatives and Liberals are neck and neck in the polls, with the Islamists also competitive. The Conservatives have a slight lead.

Tijara
Once more, the critical swing city of Tijara will likely prove the decider. The city contains 4 ridings, with 2 up for grabs. 3 of the cities ridings are held by liberals, both ridings up for grabs are liberals. The two liberal Assemblymen running for reelection, Rizwan Almas and Hasib Salih have faced controversy about "Yes" votes on the breakup bill a decision that while renewed competition in elements of the economy hurt Tijara. Conservatives Zakariyya Atif and Aliyah Shahrizad have promised sweeping tax cuts to renew the promise of Tijara. The race remains close, and these two races may be a bellwether for other elections. Tijarans are divided, polls are showing a 40/40 split in both ridings, the DSPH have not put up a candidate in these ridings, due to a large lack of support for the leftist party. Independents loosely affiliated with the DSPH have run, but are not exceeding 3% in the polls. The NPM have put up Zaid Shafaqat in one riding, and he is polling at about 4%

Pre-Election Seat Projections
Numerous media organizations have made projections based off polling and polling averages as too what the seat composition of the next assembly might be. Almost all point to a Conservative wave, as many want a change in Kamijama. They also point to an increase for the IFU, and a decrease for the NPM. The GEP is daunted by the prospect they could be wiped from parliament. The Democratic Socialists are not poised for an increase, and predictions for their decrease range from loosing 17 to 27.

Open Letter to the people and Government of Hatay

Image

To the Honourable Ali Golofad, President of the Republic of Hatay,
to the Honourable members of the National Assembly,
to the proud fighters of the Hatayan armed forces,
and to all the good people of the Republic of Hatay

In recent times the Republic of Hatay and the Republic of Nchiyamengi have become good allies. In our time of need the people of Hatay, in particular some of the brave fighters of the Hatayan Armed Forces came to our aid, and helped us, the people of Nchiyamengi, win a hard fought victory against the oppressive and brutal dictator Marcos Kamiya. The bravery and skill of your soldiers also aided in our ongoing fight against terrorists and extremists linked with the barbaric GI and murderous VR, both of which continue to abduct, imprison and indoctrinate innocent women and children, and massacre civilians. Your aid to us in our time of need shall not be forgotten. It will forever stand as a sign of the true and undying friendship between our two great nations.

We wish you well in your coming election, and trust that this election will be free, fair and open. May you, the people, enjoy a right that sadly so many are denied. May you enjoy it knowing that brave fighters from your nation have helped to secure such a victory overseas for the people of Nchiyamengi.

In the interest of fairness, the acting Coalition Government of Nchiyamengi shall not endorse any political party over another, but shall simply wish all the best to all sides involved. We look forward to continuing working with you, our good friend and ally, regardless of which side triumphs, and working with Hatayans from all walks of life from across the political spectrum.

Ever your friend and ally

Antonio Hlayambinda
Acting President

Muhammad Bondaro
Acting Vice President

Miguel Tapyaro
Acting Minister of Foreign Relations

Adán Kusemponwenya
Acting Minister of Justice

Ayaan Kanera
Nchiyamengian Ambassador to Hatay

In separate private phone calls acting President Antonio Hlayambinda, acting Minister of Justice Adán Kusemponwenya and Ambassador to Hatay Ayaan Kanera (PLD) have all wished President Ali Golofad, and by extension the Liberal Labour Party (LLP), all the best for the coming election.

Kamijama
As Election Day closed in, party leaders held their final rallies. President Ali Golofad had arranged for an LLP rally in a Kamijama theatre. The entire theatre had been decorated with Hatayan flags and LLP posters and banners. Outside supporters gathered with banners and waving flags. The room was packed with LLP supporters waving flags and holding signs. Ali Golofad stood backstage, chatting with his advisers, a recent diplomatic triumph for his administration had seen a last minute increase of support for his party. This was just what they needed, they were trailing and needed a boost. Golofad walked onto the stage and they ground began to cheer. They waved flags and posters, they began chanting "Golofad 2019, Golofad 2019!" which of course would be when the reelection campaign would begin. The cheers went on for 30 seconds, Golofad stood behind a wooden podium with the seal of the President on it. He waved to the crowd, and saluted to the section of the crowd reserved for veterans. When the cheering finally died down, Golofad spoke.
"What a crowd! What a crowd! I'm very excited to be here, and I know you are too!" The crowd gave a cheer and began the flag-waving frenzy again. "Today, with Election Day very close, we need to remind ourselves of the issues at stake. And what all the issues boil down too! That is the people, the people of Hatay. No matter the issue, business, spending, education, healthcare, social security, the armed forces and much much more, people are at stake. So it's more important than ever that we have the party of the people in office! Competent, steady leadership that is held accountable to their constituents. And the voice of constituents has never been clearer, they don't want austerity, they don't want to roll back the progress we've made in the past decade, they want progressive, fair leadership!" The crowd cheered again and began to wave flags. "That's why we need a liberal majority, because Hatayan lives, families and futures are in the balance, and we cannot afford to make the wrong decision. And it is not just Hatayans hear, it is Hatayans abroad as well. As you all know..." Golofad began to smile a knowing smile, acknowledging earlier events in Islambol. "We know what type of leadership is best for Hatayan people abroad and Hatayan interests of democracy, freedom, and peace abroad!" The crowd began to cheer again and wave flags. The began to cheer, "48 Hours! 48 Hours!" The time limit Golofad had given the Islamic Command Council of Tureanistan to release Hatayan citizens held in Islambol. "So, let's strengthen the Liberal government shall we? For strong, steady, compassionate, fair, and just leadership! Long live the Republic! Long live Hatay! Allah bless!" The crowd cheered and Golofad waved. Many LLP candidates for office began to walk up from the seats to stand with the President, and they began to sing the Hatayan anthem.

Ubar
The Conservatives were also holding a major rally for their supporters. This one in the Conservatives stronghold of Ubar. In Conservative Party Headquarters, Conservatives had gathered. Hatayan flags were dropped everywhere and Conservative posters were also everywhere. The crowd was cheering and waving flags, Riyan Nuha had just taken the stage. She adjusted her green hijab and waved to the crowd. The crowd began to wave crowds and chanted, "Riyan Nuha 2019!" Hoping she would run for President in 2019. She began to speak to the crowd after the cheers and clapping died down.
"Thank you! Thank you! This crowd is amazing! I'm so happy to be here. In a few days, we will have an extremely conseuquentional vote. It is absolutely necessary that we elect a majority that will answer to the people and enact policies that will promotee prosperity and peace. This majority needs to be the Conservative Party and the Conservative platform!" The crowd began clapping and cheered this statement. "A platform that supports people over politicians, a platform that promotes prosperity and success. A platform that allows people to rise up and stay up. With a conservative platform, we will realize the dream of so many Hatayans, who have been born poor and ignored, and have risen up to prosperity, but that cannot only be constructed if we continue disastrous liberal policies. Tax cuts for businesses in a specific area, we need tax cuts to help working families and support business growth. So let's support a conservative platform, a platform for growth, a platform for prosperity, and for the Hatayan people! Long live Hatay! Long live the Republic! Allah bless, Allah bless!" The crowd intensified cheering and waving flags, once again bursting into the anthem.

OOC: I have Hatay's full permission to carry this out.

**** Ishikawa

They called her "the cyber bitch" and few other slurs that various angry people directed at this woman, after she came after their secrets. The hacker, the journalist, a stateless spy - that were various names that Victoria Yuki, pen name Julia Asnage, has been known for. When someone looked at her, they would not so easily be able to understand how such small and funnily looking woman could be a matter of such concern - she was tall, slim, with extremely long straight dark hair, and an iconic part of glasses she constantly wore. Those glasses were extremely beneficial for her, as she opened her laptop and activated her TOR browser, using a newest military grade encryption developed by the Imperial Nifonese Army. Her IP was then filtered by multiple ports, thus making her virtually untraceable. And she had a big fish to hunt today.

Ali Golofad. President of Hatay, a known globalist and leftist, was her target, after a simple call from the Gunpeitai has informed her that his private - far less protected - E-Mail address was discovered, and subsequently handed over to her so she could squeeze all the secrets out of it. It did not took her long to formulate a method of getting in. When a legitimate update of the operational system was about to happen, she made sure Golofad's computer gotten it - but in a bit illegitimate form, via a PDoS attack that would permanently open the Port 34, thus allowing her to remotely access his computer and install a key logger. Once installed, it was only a matter of time before Ali Golofad, completely unaware of the danger, typed his login and password in. After checking his mail, the Hatayan president went to sleep - and created a perfect window for her to begin her operation.

She slowly typed in:

PresidentSecure@hg.network
**********

And to her eyes, opened a whole new world of life of Ali Golofad, president of Hatay. She made sure not to be present on this server for too long; thus, rather than reading the E-Mails, she simply started copying them all on a cloud server, before distributing them to her accomplices, the other "reporters" - though word spies would have been more likely - to get. Riysan, Nifonese, Inyurstan, Lebanese and Bashriyyan governments were about to get the same email base from an "anonymous donor". At the same time, her accomplices all around the world - various other "journalists" working for Vickyleaks - would sort through tons and tons of the material to identify the most promising ones.

Kamijama, Presidential Palace, Press Room
President Ali Golofad was certainly annoyed, hacking his email and all. He was more the annoyed, furious. But he kept it all in. He was not here to rant and rave, but provide the truth, and not more Nifonese propaganda. He briskly walked into the room.
Official Statement of the President

Image

Ladies and Gentlemen, I'm sure you all now what has occurred. A hack on my government e-mail address occurred and three emails were leaked. In response to this espionage and treachery, I have made the contents of all three emails available on the Presidential Website. The details are that I corresponded with the ISF Directorate about surveillance on the NPM. Several NPM members had already been indicted for conspiracy, and I received a warrant, from a judge to pursue surveillance and wiretapping. The ISF corresponded with me about this and we uncovered significant evidence on illegal financial transactions conducted by the NPM. The third email is relevant to my wish to seek another warrant to archive said evidence, as it happens, the warrant proceedings are continuing with no result yet. Let it be known that this was all done within the law. We received warrants for everything we did and nothing was illegal. I realize I should have been more transparent about what we were doing, but for the interest of national security, we did not disclose this. I apologize for this, and the lack of encryption for my email. Security measures have been intensified and we are positive this will not happen again. I am committed to transparency, in fact my government has passed over three transparency bills in the last year. We are committed to the privacy of the Hatayan people and the transparency of our government. However, sometimes things must remain confidential, as ALL three emails were. Which leads me to this, this was not a hacking conducted by any random group. This was Vickyleaks, with strong links to Nifonese intelligence. Nifon, once again shamelessly attacking the Hatayan Republic. I conclusion, we are committed to transparency and privacy, and I will be sure to be more transparent about my communications as I have kept Visitor Logs to the Presidential Palace open for all my time as President. We are committed to protection of the private information of the Hatayan people, and will take steps to do so. And finally we will not tolerate treachery again our national security, and above all, we will protect Hatay from those who would see it fall. Good day and Allah bless.

The attack took place four days before the election, and many Hatayans saw it is as an attack against the Hatayan Republic (perhaps by Nifon), some thought the President was hiding something more and were concerned, some were convinced by his speech, others were not. Some people did not care. Some Hatayans were emboldened in their patriotism and support for the government by repeated attacks on Golofad and his strong responses. But it was interesting to see how this would influence legislative elections.

"In the name of Allah the beneficial and the merciful! Oh 'the Community of Muslims all over the world pray for Hatay that it is freed from secular tyrants like Golofad. Woe unto you apostate, for you have been exposed. Today the true colors of Golofad have been seen for everyone to know, let it be known that corrupt leaders like Golofad will no longer rule over the Ummah.

Allah is our only ally, and it is to Allah alone that we pledge to continue the struggle against Ali Golofad here in Al-Qaman. We warn you unbelievers that more attacks will come if Golofad does not step down from power or if some worse infidel takes power, and woe unto the munafiqun in the IFU for not doing enough to defend the people of Hatay.

We urge all genuine people in Hatay to vote for the NPM.

Takbir, Allahu Akbar!"

The Federal Office of Foreign Affairs
Official announcement of the President Viliam Zeintek

The Government of The Federative Republic is disappointed by the absence of a libertarian or classically liberal party. So we are left to support the Conservative Party, although we oppose big business and banks (but we are not breaking them up, instead we are not going to bailout them when they fail and we encourage small businesses through tax incentive).

But this is not why I am writing this statement. The main concerns I have about the situation are threats by religious radical groups that threaten the fair elections. What is the worst a majority of threats are coming from foreign nations. So even though I don't like the political ideology of president Ali Golodaf, I am going to support him against actions of radical religious threat. I really do not like the idea of Hatay as another unstable democracy balancing on the line between republic and dictatorship. Or Idea of Hatay as another symbol of failed de-colonization.

Democracy have to prevail. It will prevail.

ASSEMBLY ELECTION

Husayn Murad(picture man): Good evening Hatay, tonight is election night for the National Assembly, 150 seats are up for grabs, this election is critical. Exit Polls will come out at 9 PM, and results will be finalized in the hours after that. Here's Yasir Ramadan for more.
Yasir Ramadan: Thank you Husayn, the polls point to a reduction in Liberal seats and an increase for the Conservatives. To the chagrin of the DSPH, they are slated for a decrease as well. The NPM is likely going to lose seats over several scandals rocking the party, and the IFU is looking to gain seats. But we won't know for sure until the results come in.
Husayn Murad: What factors are influencing results?
Yasir Ramadan: The recent diplomatic victory in Islambol is certainly on people's mind, many believe that Golofad is presenting strong leadership for the country, and that this should be continued in the National Assembly. Others are questioning his choices over the wiretapping of the NPM Executive Committee, thinking this was somewhat devious and out of line. Others disagree with the LLP's position over the Tijaran Unemployment Crisis, and this is that seems to be a major problem for the LLP. In recent poll of swing voters, 27% were concerned about the wiretapping of the NPM executive committee, 36% were upset about a rise of unemployment in some places, so that seems to be a more driving force. People are also getting enthusiastic about Riyan Nuha's charismatic leadership that appeals to more people.
Husayn Murad: Very interesting, we'll look at more when we get back.

ASSEMBLY ELECTION

Husayn Murad(picture man): Good evening Hatay, as we approach the exit polls coming in, we have the privileged of Democratic Socialist candidate Zaina Murad on the show, you've made some bold claims recently, would you like to clarify?
Zaina Murad: Yes, I would like to. I said that the election is already rigged, many people took that and the mainstream media ran with it, that I thought the LLP or the CP were stuffing ballot boxes or undermining the voting process. That's not what I meant, what I mean is that the powerful capitalist special interests are all against me. They LLP and CP are both funding ads against me, they both attack me and they're gathering banks and lobbyists on their side, attempting to torpedo my grassroots campaigns with corporate wealth. It's rigged in that everyone is against me, and the capitalists and their cronies will do everything to stop me. That's how it is rigged.
Husayn Murad: Recent polls say you're in a close second in the race, what do you hope will pull you over the top?
Zaina Murad: People are sick of elitists in the LLP and CP deciding issues for them, people want big momentous change, not the Conservative status quo, or LLP faux promises. That's what's going to pull me over the top, the people are rising up, the DSPH is leading the tide of change, and people are sick of establishment politics as usual, they want a momentous change.
Husayn Murad: Well thank you so much for being on the show, when we come back, exit polls.

ASSEMBLY ELECTION

Husayn Murad(picture man): Good evening Hatay, in a few seconds we will have exit polls, they will show the next composition of the National Assembly, they're coming in just about now.

(An Islamic gong is heard, a graphic comes on screen showing the new composition, it reads)

Conservative Party: 239
Liberal Labour Party: 224
Democratic Socialist Party of Hatay: 29
Islamic Fundamentalist Union: 4
Nationalist People's Movement: 2
Green Ecologist Party: 1

This result seems to be the one expected, Conservative increase, Liberal decrease, socialist decrease, a slight increase for the IFU, and a collapse of the NPM. Remember, this is just exit polls, results will be finalized soon. We'll also have victory speeches and concession speeches.

Al-Qaman

A speaker got up, numerous Salafis cheering him on as he spoke against the government of Hatay, he said "The people of Al-Qaman do not want this fake regime that does not represent us and lies to us!" he shouted with fury "Al-Qaman is demonized by the kufr, our only ally is Allah and Allah alone." he then said "There will be no election. But there will be a war! But that is what we can prevent if we vote NPM, and not the liars in IFU" the man was filmed and then the speech was made into a video and inspired other Islamists to gather outside the streets, often camped in tents. However this was not entirely grassroots, the video was being spread intentionally with the hashtag #Islam4Hatay, and paid islamist protestors were immigrating to Al-Qaman from other countries meeting up with local militants. The video caused many Salafists to support the NPM giving the NPM a new base of support.

The protestors began to take up an armed presence, they were not supposed to fire on soldiers or police but many were armed to "protect voters" from attack. Many however carried signs like A Vote for the IFU is treason, and NPM is for the people all others are traitors, a supporter of the DSPH was beaten by an angry mob of Salafists.
Undergoing retcon, standby.

Sure let us discuss this, I did not engage in any military action though, I merely had armed protestor arrive at the voting booths.

That's not very diplomatic. ;)
But a few things

1. and paid islamist protestors were immigrating to Al-Qaman from other countries meeting up with local militants
That is not so easy, I do have a border.

2. It was actually Al-Qaman that propelled the IFU to 4 seats from 1, taking 3 from the NPM and 1 from the CP.

Telegram me to discuss.

Husayn Murad(picture man): Good evening Hatay, exit polls have come out, and results are just being finalized, the polls have all closed. Candidates are beginning to make concession and victory speeches, the party leaders will also be speaking. And...oh yes. Oh yes. It seems the results have been finalized the Exit Polls stand, their predicted composition is correct. This is the new composition of the assembly. Updates for our viewers, Zaina Murad who we had on the show has finished in a close second, Conservative Zakariyya Atif has defeated Hasib Salih by a strong margin in Tijara, and also in Tijara Liberal Rizwan Almas has defeated Conservative Aliyah Shahrizad. A net gain of 1 for the CP with those two races. The Conservatives have also won in Port Uyo. More updates soon.
