World Hit Festival 31 — Mousiki, Izmedu | OOC

Postby Kalosia » Tue Feb 14, 2017 9:45 pm

And for the third time in a row, the small nation of Izmedu have won once again. To top it off, they have also been elected the next overseer for the World Hit Festival, beginning next edition. This edition serves as a transition period between the current one (Kalosia) and the successor. (OOC: this is my last time making the signups thread :C )

About + How It Works
The World Hit Festival (WHF) is a song competition. Each participating nation may enter 1 song and artist into the contest, and it will be performed. Lyrics must be written by the user, thus no instrumental songs are allowed. Users may enter up to 2 more puppet nations, adding to a total of 3 overall.
Later, each nation must vote for their favourites by giving 5 points to their favourite song, 4 points to their 2nd favourite, and so on. Nations are only allowed to get a maximum of 8 points from the user's puppets (meaning that, Nation 1 can receive 4 points from Nation 2 and Nation 3 each, if all 3 nations belong to the same user. Nations 2 and 3 can still receive points from each other.)
Votes are to be submitted by telegram to the host country, who will publish them. Afterwards, a winner will be announced and the current edition of the WHF will end, and signups for the next WHF will be opened.

[OUTDATED] Here is a statistical database of participants in WHF history, and here is a list of every World Hit Festival ever, along with links to the IC and OOC threads.

For the contest, 3 threads will be opened. The first is the Signups/OOC thread, this one. The second is known as a Draft Thread. You will post your performances here. The final one is the IC thread. The host will copy your performances from the Draft Thread. You will be able to post commentary there.

You can use the most recent World Hit Festival (WHF30) as a reference. Still, feel free to ask questions! In fact, click here to join the World Hit Festival chat on the app Discord.

Schedule
Draft thread opens: February 26, 5:00AM GMT
Signups close: March 5, 5:00AM GMT
Draft thread (entry posting) closes, IC thread up: March 12, 5:00AM GMT
Voting deadline: March 19, 5:00AM GMT
Voting announcement (results): by March 24/25

More information regarding the host city

Signing up
To sign up, fill the form below. You do not have to have a complete initial sign-up. A post saying that you'll participate is okay, but you'll have to complete the rest eventually. If you want to have a national final, feel free to post it in this thread.
Code: Select all
[box]Nation:
Broadcaster:

Song Title:
Artist:
Language(s):
Title Transcription (if required):
Title Translation (if required):
Tune:
[/box]

The form will look like the contents of the spoiler below. In the spoiler, there is also an explanation of each part.
Nation: Self-explanatory
Broadcaster: Each nation has a broadcaster, usually the national broadcaster, who will transmit the show in your nation. For example, the BBC is the UK broadcaster for Eurovision and broadcasts the event to the UK.

Song Title: Self-explanatory
Artist: The artist who will perform the song. You are expected to RP the performance in the draft thread later on.
Language(s): The languages of the song's lyrics.
Title Transcription (if required): If your song's title is in another alphabet, then this is where you fill the romanized title (for example, a song whose original title is "Мамо" would be romanized as "Mamo". Otherwise, you can omit this part completely.
Title Translation (if required): If your song's title is in another language, fill in the English translation here. Otherwise, you can omit this part completely.
Tune: Most songs in the World Hit Festival use the melody of an already existing tune, and the user only rewrites the lyrics. Self-written tunes are rare, but welcomed and appreciated. Some users choose to not use a tune for their song, but if you do, write here the tune which you are using.

If you want to see an example, scroll down, since experienced nations are more likely to sign up earlier.

Why are the dates so similar to that of Vha Mehlodhivestoile, gosh guys. Not nice.

Estogium will return to the competition, Mousiki, Izmedu. It is not yet clear what song they will be sending or their artist, thought rumour has it that the broadcaster has changed to IRU (Internnationalé Rexubliqué Ultimavertæ), which is the Estogian variant of Britonish IGBK. Estogium officials have promised to send in a stellar entry, to meet the growing standards of the highly professional World Hit Festival.

Halise Baku (Song to be revealed later)

Britonisea Decides for WHF 32 and 33!

Postby Britonisea » Wed Feb 15, 2017 11:58 am

We would like to thank the Izmeduan World Hit Delegation for inviting us to participate in the World Hit Festival 29 and 30 in your capital. There had been ups and down, but in the end, you gave us our best ever result in terms of points, all 22 of them. Unfortunately, BVC (Brityunik Vefecosoin Cairkovoin) cannot participate in the 31st World Hit Festival in Mousiki, and while you start your "New Beginning," we would also like to broadcast our beginning; Our journey to find who will represent Britonisea in World Hit Festival 32 and 33.

Initially, Vha Mehlodhivestoile's second and third place were to go to the World Hit Festival 33 and 34, but since the new dates have come out, we now know that the final announcement is on the day of the announcement of the winner of Vha mehlodhivestoile. Knowing that the World Hit Festival deadlines can be stretched, not reduced, we have full confidence that we will be able to send our second place act to the ever-increasing World Hit Festival in the nation who wins the World Hit Festival (or the nation which comes second, you never know!)

The Grand final of Vha Mehlodhivestoile starts on the 11th March 2017, and ends on the 24th March. However, before we reach that destination, we need nations to vote in the Semi Finals, three of them, in order to get our final running order (11 acts). They then will battle it out to represent Britonisea at the two biggest music competitions in the World. The third placed act will go to the World Hit Festival 33.

The voting for the first Semi Final is now open, and we welcome all nations to come and vote. The second and third semi finals will follow if you decide that you would like to wait down the line, and the extended grand final will give each nation time to vote in it!

Good luck at the World Hit Festival 31,

As written earlier, we are taking a break from competing at the WHF this time, due to our habit of coming last place.

We will come back.

NTV's WHF 31 Confirmations and TNS Announcement!

Postby Natanya » Mon Feb 20, 2017 1:10 am

Nation: Natanya
Broadcaster: NTVlive

The song is still to be decided via the new national final selection "The Natanyan Song (for Mousiki)" or "Thie Natanyanish Sinvstsymuzikalpoez'zya (Dyor Mousiki)"

The first edition of TNS will have 6 quarter-finals, each consisting of 6 songs, artists will be able to have up to 3 songs in this stage and are allowed to have them entered in different quarter finals.. Each quarter final will have a different theme based around musical elements (Language, Genre, ect.) to try and ensure a diverse group of songs make it to the latter stages of the contest. This stage will be completely decided by a Jury. Then there will be 3 semi-finals, each consisting of 6 songs, 3 from each quarter-final, with artist allowed to have a maximum of 2 songs in this round. Each semi will have all 3 qualifiers from 2 quater-finals, again to try and create and better mix of songs in the final. This round will be completely decided from the Natanyan televote, with 3 songs advancing from each semi. Therefore, the final will consist of 9 songs, with each artist being allowed 2 songs in the final, if they qualified from the televote. The voting in this secion will be spilt 3 ways between a Natanyan Jury, the Natanyan televote and, for the first time in a Natanyan pre-selection proper, international juries. The percentage will be spilt 25%/25%/50%. All competing nations are invited to vote in the final. The voting system will be a top 5 based 1, 2, 3, 5, and 7 points, with the international juries giving out doubled points, 2, 4, 6, 10 and 14. At the end 36 initial songs will be shortened down to 1, and that one song will go on to represent Natanya at it's 2nd World Hit Festival, WHF 31 in Mousiki, Izmedu!

Fun Fact: That long Natanyan word is the word for a Song with lyrics, the word is a compound which literally translates to "Singer's musical poetry/Sinvtsy Muzikal Poez'zya

Idek if y'all really do NFs but I assumed yous do, if not y'all'd've! :p

An Introduction to Mousiki
Image
Mousiki (population: ~143,000) is Izmedu's 4th largest city and rests on Izmedu's most southern tip as the seat of the district of Ivica. Existing near the maritime and land borders of Izmedu, the city is known for being the only 'exposed' city of Izmedu, being built near the the southern base of Mount Varaj and the mountain range that encircles the country. In consequence, this caused the city to develop a strong regional identity, quickly becoming one of Izmedu's most prosperous and culturally resonant cities in the wake of its founding. Being the only serious rival to Vodiznad in the culture race, Mousiki is known as the birthplace of the coastal folk that influences the regional sounds of Western Izmedu. The klapa movement finds its roots located in Mousiki as well as being the root of present day Izmeduan avant-garde music. However, the city is mostly known for being the birthplace of Izmeduan traditional folk dances, popularizing many seaside folk dances that influence the country from coast tip to tip.

Despite its relatively large size within the country, Mousiki is well-regarded as being one of the safest and calmest cities in the country. Feeling a bit stressed from the hustle and bustle of Sastavak or the densely packed capital of Vodiznad? Mousiki's array of resort-style and luxury hostels are there to save the day. The city is a leader in the Izmeudan hospitality industry, focusing less on providing traditional fare and capitalizing on a unique system of hotel stay by focusing on providing a home-like experience with Villas that dot the city. The city itself is home to more out-of-the-way cultural landmarks such as housing one of the few surviving national performance theaters from Izmedu's older era as well as a historically preserved site of old Ivica, the location of which is argued to be where the city's founder 'claimed' the land as Izmeduan and built the first settlement of what would make up the city of Mousiki.

The city itself is more heterogenous than other cities in Izmedu, with its architecture and linguistic history stemming from not only two, but three influences. While similar in ethnic makeup to the rest of the country, Mousiki speaks a dialect of Izmeduan that is described to be 'more particular' than the standard Izmeduan spoken throughout the country 'and could be another language entirely.' Mousikian-Izmeduan is described to be far more rhythmic and is more romantic in its spoken form, and more romance language rules are used (Mousikian-Izmeduan is not prone to pro-dropping versus its standard variety), however a vast majority of the vocabulary is still shared with the Izmeduan standard. The city itself also contains a faint, but resonating Greek influence within it. The site of old Ivica itself was built upon the principles of old Greek architecture, and old linguistical records suggested that Mousikian-Izmeduan in its earliest form was tangentially related to the Greek language with key loanwords being shared (however, the historical homogenization of Izmedu in the first 50 years after Mousiki's founding caused many regional dialects to be erased, with Mousiki having born the brunt of cultural changes with its regional language being affected the most drastically).

Most importantly, Mousiki is a city whose roots are steeped in music (the pun being accidental and not realized until fairly recently). Aside from having a rhythmic dialect and being the birthplace of Izmeduan klapa, Mousiki has an active folk scene at the forefront of keeping Izmedu's musical tradition alive. The local music scene in Mousiki is more focused on a more organic experience by encouraging visitors to join in on folk dances (take a walk down one of the streets near the Mousiki marina, 85% of the time there's a folk dance in there with onlookers). The city itself is largely devoid of a nightclub scene, with most cultural events taking place in local bars + restaurants where a folk singer could sing a collection for the night.

The Theme: A New Beginning
It's a peculiar choice for a theme. It doesn't take advantage of the pun that the city's name has in store and it was rather paradoxical considering that it was the city's third consecutive hosting in a row. However, with the decade of the 30s starting in earnest, and with the hosting being moved out of Vodiznad, organizers felt it appropriate to declare a new chapter. The country has just earned the role of WHF Overseer, Izmedu has won the contest twice in a row, ending and opening a new 'decade' of the World Hit Festival with its best finishes. However, that's for very self-flagellating reasons.

'A New Beginning,' by technical definition, represents every new WHF. After the results are published and gone through, the new iteration of the WHF is always around the corner to give countries another shot at the World Hit Festival. Every contest is a blank slate and a new chapter, a chance for countries to start anew and take a different approach if one doesn't seem to be working. WHF31 presents a bigger blank slate coming on the horizon, with the transfer of power from the old overseer to the new, the contest is a literal new beginning for the contest as a whole.

The Venue
Image
The Majcena Foruma (capacity: 9,700. max. recorded: 10,591) is the official venue of the World Hit Festival 31. One of Izmedu's newest and most successful arenas in its southern side, the Majcena Foruma is one of the few concert venues regularly utilized, Named after its former patron in tribute (Ulrika Majcen, the second President of Izmedu who was fatally shot during the end of her second term), the Majcena Foruma represents the most forward-thinking project of architecture to have been built in Mousiki's history. The arena is known as “la svemirski brod” colloquially (translation: the spaceship).

Despite the local nickname in gentle jest, the arena itself is known to be one of Izmedu's most energy-efficient arenas; in fact, it was built with that in mind. The circular architecture of the arena represents a much more efficient use of space versus old Izmeduan practices. The interior itself is being optimized for the contest, with organizers hoping to increase the capacity slightly (up to a planned 10,500 as a barometer) to be able to fit in more people. However, the smaller size of the arena means that a much more intimate show is planned versus the spectacles of WHF29 and WHF30.

The Stage
Image
The stage itself, suitable to the smaller scale of WHF31, is not nearly as wide or expansive as the WHF29 or 30 stages, but it focuses more on a smaller, more intimate scale. All of the usual stage effects are there, as is customary of any Izmeduan stage. Conduits for water, fire, and sparks are present for delegations to use, as well as hologram effects, lighting, and other custom effects that delegations need. The background screen is more focused on a paneling palette, with five visible panels that surround the stage that can be combined to form one contiguous image. Additionally, the orchestra pit returns to the World Hit Festival, but instead, the orchestra pit is on the stage itself. The previous conductor, Adam Katavic, from the past WHF returns. The extent of the orchestra is entirely customizable to whatever delegations desire. Should a delegation not need the orchestra, they are allowed to convert the on-stage pit into extra walking space.

The Postcards
Unlike previous editions, these postcards will take on a more WHF26 and 27 variety rather than taking on the practices of WHF29 and 30. The header that you will receive on your entry, when posted on the IC thread, will serve as the postcard for your nation. It'll be a wave on a canvas like background, your nation name 'painted on,' and your performance slot and artist + song name integrated on. Delegations do not need to send anything to the host for the postcard, and the colors, as normal, will change slightly to reflect the colors of the national broadcaster. However, the background itself will maintain a sense of uniformity as is the case with most Izmeduan headers in the past. Below is a sampling of the Izmeduan header using the WHF30 entry.

The Voting Reveal
This is the one area of World Hit Festival 31 that RTI will change drastically from its previous two hostings. Of course, the monikers of Phase I and Phase II remain identical from previous Izmeduan hostings, but the ways in which the votes will be presented are going to be wildly different for the upcoming WHF. For those who remember the voting reveal system utilizied in WHF26, this new system will look very much familiar to you, as it is effectively a reversal of the previous system.

Instead of revealing the 1 through 4 votes first and the 5 points last, we will instead reverse it. Phase I of the voting will focus on revealing the 5 points that each country gave. We will go through each country and spokesperson individually to find out who gave their 5 points to who. Since it is reversed, this does mean that only about 33% of the approximate total vote will be given out. Some countries my excel here, and some countries may not start out well. For those looking at past Izmeduan WHFs, this is the analogue to the old Phase II. Breaking away from past form, there will be an active scoreboard for this phase.

The new Phase II focuses on the lower 1 through 4 votes. However, unlike WHF29 and WHF30, we will not go through what each country gave to each other. Instead, we will go through each country individually and find out what they received. This mirrors the 1 through 4 system that Kalosia utilized WHF26. As such, the order in which these 1 through 4 votes are going to be presented may not necessarily be in order of who got the most points to the least. Using WHF30 as an example, the host may decide to reveal the amount of points that Ethane received (16, and an ensuing breakdown of who gave them points right after), then after, reveal the 1 through 4 votes of Chameliya who received 11. These Phase II points will be added to the total from Phase I, and an active scoreboard will also be present.

The one constant from previous editions will be Phase III, which is only invoked in the event of a first place tie. The usual tiebreakers apply. Amount of nations voted for first, then amount of 5 points received, 4 points, and all the way down to 1. In the unlikely case that the two nations have the exact same score breakdown, we will refer back to the televote (in OOC terms, this is determined by who made an earlier post or edit on the draft thread) to break the tie and determine the winner of the WHF.

Incredibly late, I know. But I present to you... voting tables. Note that these are quick samples I drew up, so they are subject to some refinement.
