PHALLIAN SABOTAGE?

Controversy erupted today after the President of the Third Republic of Atla, a humble landlocked nation near the Shentong Mountains, announced that operatives of the Kingdom of Phallia had been caught red handed in an attempt of sabotage. The Dundee dam is a massive structure that has been under construction for nearly a decade in Atla. It is a project meant to divert water flow to more Atlish agriculture areas, but one fraught with controversy. It had been suggested by the Phallian officials that due to the Dundee Dam, which is named after the famous Dundee Massacre committed by the Phallians during the Atlish revolution, negative effects on the down steam water flow into Phallia are a device to punish the Phallian government for high tariffs on Atlish goods being exported down the Wein river. The Atlish government has vehemently denied any such motivation, but international observers have shared such concerns.

Nevertheless, the operatives who sought to blow up the Dundee dam were all killed in their attempt by Atlish Special Forces known as GROG team. Save for one would be saboteurs who officials say is being questioned in Austrundus by authorities within the Land Self Defense Force. President Overton of Atla even went as far to announce that his Secretary of Energy, Lillian Reid, was held hostage during the crisis at the Dundee Dam and was gravely wounded in the firefight that eventually saved her.

No official response has been made by the Phallians in regard to this alleged act of national hostilities, but President Overton gave a stiff warning to the Kingdom that not responding would be the wrong answer. The President threatened sanctions if an explanation was not given in time, and encouraged the international community to do the same to discourage such a hostile and possibly catastrophic acts on sovereign soil. But it remains to be seen what will come out of this conflict as tensions are certainly rising in the Shentong region.

[The Twelve Isles]

In response to recent aggression and activity's take by the Phallian government and military in the Shentong Autonomous Region, and and attempted sabotage of the Dundee Dam in Atla, this morning Emperor Alexander Cartwine held a press conference where he and members of his staff announced a string of sanctions and embargoes were to be placed on Phallia. The Emperor and his staff announced that Sanctions will be used against all Phallian businesses, civilian or government. As well as this, special attention will be placed on restricting Isles oil and coal being traded wit Phallia. As well as this, wood, cotton, banana's, and coffee will be affected by this action.

When asked what he hoped these trade sanctions would accomplish, and why they were being enforced, the Emperor state, "It is the hope of me and my staff that these sanctions will send a firm message to the Phallians that their treatment of the the native Sainese and their aggression towards Atla will not stand. We hope that by restricting access to Isles oil and coal, that we will be able to cut Phallias ability's to take such actions against their neighbors. These sanction will be lifted if the Phallian leadership agrees to sit down and attempt to work through these differences with Sainese and Atlish leadership, and to remove their military and civilian presence in Shentong."

Upon further questioning of how the Emperor hoped to have these goals achieved, Emperor Cartwine stated, "It is my hope that if Atla SLA and Phallia agree for meetings, they will look to us as mediators. The Isles always stands with open arms, and is willing to act as an in between for the two nations to sit down and try to work towards a more peaceful future."

The conference then moved on to what the Emperor planned to do if the talks broke down and no settlement was achieved. Though no official statement was declared, it was made implicitly clear by the Emperor that if Phallia continued to act aggressively towards their neighbors, most notably Atla, that he would be willing to send in soldiers to protect the Isles allies. "It is my hope that we can work through this crisis before it becomes violent and more lives are lost on either side, but If Phallia continues to act aggressively I am willing to consider a military intervention on behalf of Atla and Shentong."

Twelve Isles Threatens War

GMÜND- Just days after the terror attack in Phallia, the Empire of the Twelve Isles announced a trade embargo on the Kingdom with Emperor Cartwine stating that the Twelve Isles was ready for “military intervention” if their demands of a Phallian military and civilian withdrawal from Shentong Province were not met. The Phallian government reacted furiously with Chancellor Walwerden saying in a press conference that he would not tolerate the “blatant foreign aggression and interference our internal affairs mirroring that of old-age colonialism.” The Finance Ministry of Alexander Maintefort announced sanctions in retaliation on Islish shipping and trade rights in Phallian ports, which experts say will hurt the Twelve Isles more than it will harm the Phallian service-focused economy. Nevertheless oil prices have increased by 10% by the Burgunder Zeitung’s sources and estimates.

The round of sanctions come at a heightened time of tensions between Atla and Phallia as the situation in the Shentong Autonomous Region shows new levels of volatility, characterised by the recent suicide bombing attack in Waälischië, which with its 22 dead- including four children- is the deadliest in recent times. Phallia has accused Atla of funding the Shentong Liberation Army and has stated it was investigating its ties with the Twelve Isles. Minister of Foreign Affairs Walter Scherry said on his visit to Wanka that “it is concerning that the Twelve Isles has backed up the terrorist groups aims and is openly condoning the barbaric killing of innocent Phallian people”, further leaving the option open of designating the Twelve Isles as a state sponsor of terrorism together with Atla. Atla meanwhile has accused the Phallian Royal Secret Service of attempting what they portray as a failed sabotage attempt on the Dundee Dam, though Phallia has denied these claims. A fire ten kilometres away from the Dam has however revealed what Atlan investigators have identified as the remains of two self-detonated helicopters of Phallian origin.

The dam has been a major point of contention as part of the wider water policy regarding the Wein river that Atla and Phallia have confronted themselves over; Phallia has demanded that the nations “cooperate” on the matter. The dam, which is planned to take over a significant percentage of the Atlish energy production as well as having its freshwater reservoirs and diversion projects serve for domestic and agricultural consumption has reduced and altered the rivers water flow downstream drawing protests from Phallian farmers and fishers affected by the irregular behaviour of the Wein and depletion of fish stocks. In response, Phallia has increased originally generous regulations on trade with the landlocked nation. “By following a policy of non-cooperation, both Phallia and Atla are on a downward spiral to the detriment of both our economies and peoples. However, the Atlish government should know that Phallia is in a much better position to face such a trade war than Atla is.” Chancellor Walwerden was quoted as saying in an interview with the Gmünder Allgemeine.

AUSTRUNDUS- That quote today from the President of the Third Republic of Atla at a charity gathering held at the Grand Peak in the capital of Atla for the Atlish for Atlish Foundation. President Lewis Overton expressed his disinterest in Twelve Isle’s offer to bring all parties to the negotiating table over the recent row about the attempted Dundee Dam sabotage and increased Shentong Liberation Army attacks in the Shentong Autonomous Region. Caught seemingly off guard by Achesian National reporters at the charity dinner, the President was happy to explain his dissatisfaction with the offer of coming to the table with the Phallian government.

"They have offered no explanation as to why their operatives were involved in this thwarted terrorist attack." He began to explain. "The Phallian government despite our evidence of their involvement has denied everything, coming to the table with them now is to only approve of the lies they have sowed." The President's harsh words coming after a recent hospital visit in Austrundus where he visited his Secretary of Energy, Lillian Reid, who was held hostage by the alleged Phallian operatives during the attack on the dundee dam. Secretary Reid has been listed in critical condition at Austrundus Memorial for over a week now as doctors repair the damage done to her by one of her assailants pistols, and the hours of being drug from one end of the Dundee facility to the other.

"It was a despicable act." President Overton voiced his disdain as he further acknowledged that his government had in fact politely declined their close trade allies' offer of mediating a talk between the rival nations. A touching gesture from the government of the Twelve Isle's but one with which the Atlish government views is ill times with recent events and refusals by the Kingdom of New Phallia. During our own research, approximately 15,000 Atlish live within the danger zone east of the dam, and stand to be directly affected if the dam were to be breached. Most would have little to no warning before the water held back by the massive wall across the Wein River would ultimately engulfed and destroyer their homes. Truly troubling to see that any organization wished to see such destruction unfold. It remains to be seen if there is in fact Phallian government involvement.

Thus far no new travel restrictions have been put in place by the Achesian Ministry of Statecraft for the Shentong Mountain region, Atla, or the Kingdom of New Phallia.

TERRORIST OFFENSIVE LEAVES 50 DEAD

SHENTONG AUTONOMOUS REGION- A coordinated large-scale offensive across the Shentong region targeting Phallian civilians and security personnel has left 60 dead and “over a hundred” wounded in a series of deadly ambushes, suicide bombings and gun attacks according to Phallian authorities. This represents the worst day of violence since the twin-suicide attack on Waälischië several months ago which left fifteen people dead.

The latest SLA offensive was, according to an SLA statement, “in response to the continued military reinforcements and repression of Sainese villages”, an accusation Phallia denies. Nevertheless the attacks appeared to have caught the Phallian military off-guard with officials and War Minister Jochen Maison-Poire pointing fingers at Atlish and Isl’ish support and direct involvement. “We have solid evidence of their [Atlish] involvement in supplying the terrorists with weapons, ammunition and even training. This deadly terrorist offensive was carried out with preparation, skill and weapons never seen before by the SLA.” Chancellor Walwerden said that they were investigating possible combat deaths of Atlish military personnel in Shentong, a case which would mean “a serious breach of Phallian sovereignty and yet another act of war committed against Phallia.” The Ministry of War had released evidence of the use of Atlish rifles and modern anti-tank missiles used by the SLA militants in their ambushes. While a Ministry official stated that the offensive had been “repelled and neutralised”, the high death toll and reports of ongoing fighting and shelling suggests that this new wave of violence is far from over.

It comes at a time of high tensions between the two Hesperan nations as well as the Empire of the Twelve Isles. Phallia responded with outrage after a Lincolnian holiday ship was boarded and searched at the controversial Dundee Dam, with Phallia accusing Atlish authorities of ‘racial profiling’ its citizens in the unusual move by Atlish security. Days later what Phallia claimed was a reconnaissance plane of the Twelve Isles was shot down over the Shentong and the Phallian frigate SMS Séebär torpedoed by an Isl’ish nuclear submarine in Phallian waters. Crown Prince Armand said that Isl’ish actions amounted to “acts of war” and announced the complete closure of Phallian ports to Isl’ish shipping and a travel ban on Isl’ish citizens. The Twelve Isles has been at loggerheads with Phallia over its position supporting Sainese independence, which the SLA demands, as well as the high Phallian tariffs placed on its landlocked partner and ally, Atla. Although His Majesty King Hagen III called for “calm and restraint”, all sides continue to remain tense after the Christoslavian navy announced that its 3rd Naval Group was to visit Gmünd. “Fundamentally, the conflict revolves around mining interests and the vast rare metal and mineral reserves in the Shentong and Dongshan regions which is pulling foreign nations in.” a report at the Phallian Academy of Political Science read. “The Sainese see Phallian mining as exploitative to them and the Isl’ish and Atlish want access to their resources. The Phallian mining industry and foreign mining companies want to expand into the Atlish resource pool [..]

“The New Phallian Government is also wary of its disadvantageous military position in the mountains, with Atla in control of the Guidou Peak and the Central Pass from which it could, in a war, strike easily into the Phallian heartland. Threatened by Chen to the south Phallia is in desperate need for secure borders, and until then is actively seeking to weaken the landlocked Atla economically as best as it can, as shown by its staunch opposition to the building of the Dundee Dam.”

MEISEN GRID SHUTDOWN: NEW PHALLIA BLAMES ISLISH HACKERS

MEISEN- Downstream on the Lower Wein, the city of Meisen experienced a full power blackout with everything reliant on the city’s electrical grid rendered unusable. While power has been restored to some parts of the city as spare generators have been brought in, emergency services are still well underway to assist the majority of its citizens where public transport has ceased to function, water supply cut and cell services unavailable. Relief efforts were severely impeded as government computer networks and websites were paralysed in what New Phallian authorities have described a “large-scale sophisticated cyberattack”, the first of its kind in the region.

New Phallian Chancellor Walwerden described it as a “pointless, dangerous assault” on the New Phallian nation. In a press conference, RSS Director Riegen said that there was “reliable evidence” that Islish hackers were responsible. “We have detected a new kind of malware implanted in the electric grid capable not only of temporary disruption but a full wipe of data.” He said the RSS Cybersecurity Division was conducting investigations into all city electrical grids as well as military and government communication systems to search for malware. Meanwhile, the government has advised citizens to stockpile emergency rations and radios to prepare for a repeat attack.

It comes as the region verges on the brink of war with New Phallia yesterday giving a two-day ultimatum to Atla which has not yet been answered by the Atlish government. Meisen is a key military node for the New Phallian Defence Forces and having seen increased activity as New Phallia “prepared for an Atlish invasion”. According to an unnamed RSS source the logistical situation was significantly complicated by the cyberattack as relief services impeded mobilisation efforts. Meanwhile, larger powers are being drawn into the conflict as all sides eye the regions rich natural resources and vital position in Hesperan maritime trade. With the Twelve Isles ignoring Christoslavia’s warning that if the Isles deployed troops, Christoslavia would do similarly, it threatens to turn a dispute over borders and the Shentong into a wider regional war. The Isles have declared that it was deploying troops to deter New Phallia and has sent ships to patrol the Phallian/Hesperan Gulf with Emperor Cartwine saying the Isles could “easily blockade them [New Phallia]”. Meanwhile Christoslavian naval forces are on exercise with the New Phallian Navy, and many see the collision course the two coalitions are heading toward.

"A recent statement from the Interior Ministry has confirmed reports of yet another border clash between Christoslavia and the Chen Empire. Earlier today independent reports that could not be confirmed reported artillery fire from the Chen side of the heavily disputed Salren region, which Chen still claims but remains under Christoslavian control after the Second Border War.

The official from the Ministry of the Interior, who's name will not be given as they aren't authorized to speak to the public, confirmed these reports with the following statement."


At 6:27 today, a squadron of Interior Minsitry troops on routine border patrol came under fire from Chinese heavy artillery, in the attack which lasted for 15 minutes, 4 soldiers were killed and 3 injured. A retaliatory strike was ordered and a pair of H-7's was dispatched to destroy the artillery position, preceded by an artillery barrage from a nearby Interior Ministry position. The Chen position was destroyed completely and we have destroyed 3 Howizters and caused 17 casualties

"This is not the first time this has happened, as both Christoslavia and Chen have conducted frequent border incursions and attacks since the 1980's. Although an attack this directed and intentional has not been seen for several months as sporadic fighting in Salren has died down since January. The Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of War, and Ministry of External Affairs have issued a joint statement condemning this attack and urging the Chen Emperor to cease hostilities.

Along with renewed border attacks, reports of Chinese piracy in the shipping lanes between Algoran and Isola Guardia have also increased. The Ministry of the Interior has increased Coast Guard patrols in response and Christoslavia, Wanka, and New Phallia are expected to conduct joint naval exercises in an attempt to force the Chen Emperor to do more against piracy. WANKA SIGNS WM$3.5 BILLION ARMS DEAL

Arms deal with Valkiir amounts to modern fighter jets, armoured vehicles, artillery as well as high-tech guided missiles for the Army

KRONSTADT- The Ministry of Defence announced yesterday that a WM$3.5 billion (NS$580 million) weapons deal with Valkiir National Arms has been finalised with delivery to begin immediately. As part of the spending budget allocated and outlined under the White Paper on Security Policy and the Federal Armed Forces it involves the introduction into service of modern fighter jets, land systems and missiles, replacing outdated models. Closer to home it has also pointed at the disputed territories of the Sellenland and Saxony/Cloyster which Wanka had wars and confrontations with Aemen and Madera respectively. With the launching of the BRS Georg Marov (image), which will serve as the third carrier to the fleet of the Bundesmarine, the purchase of two squadrons of A7D Korsar naval strike fighters is intended to complement the carrier battle groups’ air wings. Meanwhile the purchase of 30 A7 Marauders will replace the G-27 Ground-Attack fighters of the 8th Ground Attack Wing. In addition to these, anti-tank rockets as well as shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles which will “enhance the fighting strength of the infantry” have been ordered with the intent to produce them domestically in near future.

Wanka is also considering investment into Valkiir projects for the development of a mobile self-propelled air-defence platform to provide air protection for the Army’s brigades, the Ministry of Defence said, with the Federal Army eager to complete its transition to a modular brigade-oriented structure.

Inoroth and Wanka Ink Free Trade Agreement

SCHLESWIG- After a monthlong series of closed-door negotiations, Inoroth and Wanka have unveiled a groundbreaking new trade deal which seeks to reshape bilateral political and economic relations between the two nations on the Meridian Sea. As trade barriers, most notably the remnants of sanctions enacted by Inoroth on the West Wankan regime, persisted despite the stabilisation of the Wankan political landscape both sides sought to enact a new deal to connect two of the largest economies in the region. It also comes as Chancellor Röder and his National Socialist Unity Party administration seeks to maintain the steady Wankan economic growth through an export-oriented free market strategy. The free trade deal, which is estimated to be worth 500 billion Marks, is expected to easily pass the Wankan Parliament as it is sponsored by both NSEP, LKU and ZEP as well as major Wankan industries.

“This deal will provide tens of thousands of new jobs on both sides of the Sea.” hailed Chancellor Röder in a press conference following the signing by Wankan Foreign Minister Kirchhof and his Inorothian counterpart. Likewise Inorothian Prime Minister Calini said that “We have nothing to fear from foreign trade but lower prices and higher availability for all”. Tensions in Aurus as Border Duel leaves Eight Dead

SALREN REGION- Christoslavia and the Chen Empire, the two most populous nations on the Aurusian continent reported a major border clash yesterday morning which left eight reported deaths and dozens injured as Chen and Christoslavian artillery shelled along the disputed Salren region. Both sides accuse each other of initiating the attack with Chen maintaining that it defended against an armed border incursion while Christoslavia claiming Chen began shelling its troops. The Wankan Foreign Ministry released a statement condemning the “recent escalation of violence in the Salren” and warning Chen to “settle disputes by negotiation, and not armed force.”

An unnamed Christoslavian official said that such fighting had not been seen since “fighting in the Salren died down in January” and comes amidst heightened tensions in the Aurus-Hesperan region, one of many potential hotspots for conflict. The Chen government issued strong protests last week as Wanka, Christoslavia and New Phallia announced a planned naval and anti-piracy exercise off the Chen coast which is seen as- while the Wankan government denies it- to send a message to the Chennese. Chen is locked in a trade dispute with Wanka, with Chancellor Röder pushing through a ban on arms embargo to Chen in Parliament as a response to the Chen ban on wine imports from Wanka, which the Empire sees as “contaminating, polluting and poisoning our young people and threatening the health and cohesion of our society”. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs had also issued protests on the restrictions on freedom and rights of its citizens who are barred from the entirety of Chen apart from specially designated economic zones within major coastal cities.

The isolated Chen Empire, meanwhile, faces major threats on all fronts; after losing past wars it lays claim to the Baoshan region held by New Phallia, the Salren region held by Christoslavia. Pressure on the Emperor to reform from within the country has also increased with the growing merchant class clamouring for the liberalisation of markets and increased civic freedoms and participation. Further inland, the countryside and agrarian base- traditionally the Emperor’s strongest supporters- stand wary in face of past droughts which have resulted in devastating famines. Reports of communist activities have also surfaced in far-flung areas though the Emperor denies opposition to his rule and continues tight state control of media and information within the country.

Genevieve, NCT - Protesters and demonstrations were held outside Government Building yesterday in response to the violent unrest in Southeastern Demetland and the lack of Demetish government initiative for peaceful resolution.

"The Little Megyorny in Springstile Association" (TLMSA or "Telemsa" as pronounced by organization members) and the "Peace World Over Movement" (PWOM or P.W.O.M.) have organized the demonstrations of 1,526 people which attracted, according to their estimation, five thousand people - most of which came from the Community of Aemen People (CAP or C.A.P.) and all over the National Capital Territory, especially Genevieve.

We've come here to call for a righteous and long-lasting peace among our brothers and sisters in Demetland-it is a peace that sees no distinguishment."

Together, the organizations (Telemsa and P.W.O.M.) have compiled their demands which they have officially called as "The Six Points", which 31 of the participants inspired and 17 more of whom proposed, in a large sign standing on a makeshift platform built on the steps of the Main Portico, directly in front of the doors to the Entrance Gallery:

• WE ask Springstiler parliament to propose at Demetish parliament consideration for conciliation by means of peaceful approach, only then efforts to defeat Megyornian terrorists will be effective. The hardline approach has proven to be not only expensive but extremely ineffective by the number of lives lost.
• AND We ask Springstiler parliament to proactively assist Demetish parliament in any peaceful effort to defeat Megyornian terrorists and to condemn efforts of the hardline approach.
• BUT We ask Springstiler parliament to unilaterally refuse any act of Demetish parliament that will command our armed forces to assist in the hardline approach.
• BUT We ask Springstiler government to unilaterally refuse any exercise of power by The Goronwy Ministry and its successive ministries that will command our armed forces to assist in the hardline approach.
• AND SO We ask Your Excellency, the Governor of Springstile, to reaffirm unilateral exercise of power by Springstiler parliament in royal proclamation.

John M. Peas, First Minister of the CAP, and Róbert Héderváry, Secretary of State for the Department of External Affairs, personally participated in the demonstrations.

The First Minister, walking towards Government Building with other demonstration participants and protesters, said, "Friends in my party (The Aemen People's Liberal Party) at New Haven would always support any effort that will encourage talks for solution and negate such that will end in bloodshed, regardless whether they are innocent or not."

When the First Minister was asked about The Six Points this morning outside his in-laws' home in the Municipality of King's End, NCT, he answered, "Well, whatever I (Peas) said yesterday was prior to my knowledge of the points (The Six Points). Certainly had no idea whatsoever. I can say that one must absolutely reconsider anything 'unilateral.' We must, as a civilized society, uphold our laws and follow protocol. After all, we are a Demetish dominion and so unilateralism must never be utilized."

"Furthermore, I do believe that a royal proclamation would not be most effective as it only reaffirms acts to exercise royal authority made by parliament and when it is needed for constitutional-parliamentary protocol such as that of the general elections-summoning-dissolving-proroguing parliament, and the appointment of Government Officers," the First Minister added.

Róbert Héderváry, refusing to say more, simply said yesterday and again today that "I'm (Héderváry) with 'The Minister' (Peas) on this."

No violence or any other incident has been reported from the demonstrations. But there are stories of verbal assaults against visiting Springstiler parliamentarians from New Chertshire and other people in Government Building premises.

The Parliaments of Demetland, Springstile, and the CAP, along with its ministries and other members, including the Governor, the King's Privy Council for Springstile, and King Vortipor VI, and the royal offices both in Springstile and Demetland, have made no statement so far on the demonstrations.

CHRISTOSLAVIA SIGNS $9 BILLION ARMS DEAL WITH THE WANKAN FEDERAL REPUBLIC

The Citadel - After several rounds of negotiations, sources within the Ministries of External Affairs and War have reported that, along with unanimous parliamentary approval, Christoslavia and Wanka have signed one of the largest arms deals in the history of Christoslavian-Wankan relations.

Reportedly, the deal includes the last of the military's previous supercarriers, the Intrepid Class CNS Washburn, decomissioned in 2005. Further, the deal includes 3 of the brand new, state of the art Whirlpool Class Amphibious Assault Ships/Helicopter Carriers, and a littany of land vehicles including tanks, MRAP's, MLRS's, and APC's, as well as small arms.

The negotiations had began with the Wankan Minister of Defence Joachim Kazmarek and Minister of Foreign Affairs Walter Kirchhof over one month ago, with the deal now finally concluded. At a press briefing last night, Press Secretary for the Ministry of War Danielle Chi stated

AMONG FOREIGN EXPANSIONISM, HESCIAN NATIONALIST ORGANIZATION GAINS POPULARITY

TARNU — As the expansionist nature of the neighboring state of Uralskoy mounts, the right-wing "Hescian Nationalist Organization (Heskii Natsionalistlik Organisatsioon, or HNO)" has experienced a recent stark increase in domestic support in the Hescian Republic, as the policy of armed neutrality of the ruling "Democratic Hescia" party become less popular in the wake of ubiquitous world conflict. Known for his compelling and gripping speeches, chairman of the National Front Janek Valk claimed that "a neutral Hescia stands no chance against the great powers of our world...it is imperative, for the survival of our great people, to seek allies abroad" in an HNO rally in the Hescian capital of Tarnu this past weekend.

Incumbent President Miikael Sepp did not comment on the derogatory statement, nor has any spokesperson of the "Democratic Hescia" party.

The HNO has, since 2003, strove for a more powerful executive branch of the Hescian government — hinting at dictatorial tendencies — and the creation of a far stronger Hescian military and stance on foreign relations. Hescia has, since its humble beginnings, advocated a state of armed neutrality. Bearing a small but advanced military, Democratic Hescia — the party which has dominated modern Hescian politics — has maintained such a policy, much to the discontent of the Hescian Nationalist Organization. Chairman Janek Valk of the HNO has repeatedly stated his preference for alliances with stronger powers in order to protect Hescian sovereignty. On the contrary, Democratic Hescia favors neutral diplomatic solutions to disputes.

The sharp increase in popularity truly began to become clear when a recent poll by the Heskii Evening Paper (Heskii Õhtuleht) discovered that the HNO has seen its share of Hescian voters mount to 18%, compared to the Hescian Syndicalist Compact's 14%, and the ruling Democratic Hescia's 37%. Other more minor parties make up the remaining 31% collectively.

"It is of the utmost importance to display Hescia's great potential and to gain foreign powers' support to fend off expansionists who threaten us. We must pick a side now, or face obliteration," Chairman Valk said this weekend.

The Citadel- Two weeks ago the ruling Justice/People's Union Party Coalition in the Hall of the Senate with significant Revolutionary support unanimously rejected the proposed budget by the Hall of the People earlier last month. Chief arguments presented by the President of the Senate, Senator Haytham Kneeding (J), were that with an increasingly beligerrent Uralskoy and the Nill crisis worsening, along with increased terrorist activity in Ummayah, a larger military budget would be needed to consolidate and maintain the armed forces for potential future conflicts, and more money was needed for education especially in government and social sciences due to the volatility of world affairs.

Several closed door sessions of the Hall of the People finally concluded with a moderately revised Omnibus bill that was this time accepted by the Senate early today. In a symbol of tripartisanship all parties have joined together in creating a statement summarizing that this spending bill benefits all Christoslavians, ensuring their right to be educated and protected at all costs. SUPREME OVERLORD signed the bill into law and heavily approved of the increases proposed.

Vymarian scientists have been working under the government to conduct new experiments on new types of chemicals to further buff Vymarian military expeditions. The new chemical is a mix of White Phosphorus and Chlorine, leading to a greenish white tint. Giving it a nickname called "Greenhouse Gas".

CHARLOMANN: SINKING OF RAINBOW HULL “HAD TO BE DONE”

CHLOWISBUERG- Gauliscian Realm Chancellor Charlomann admitted that he ordered the sinking of the Springstiler cruise ship, the Rainbow Hull, in an assault which left all 94 of its crew and passengers dead. It comes after the Tropical Times, a Springstiler paper, published evidence alleging that the Gauliscian military not only sank, but also had orders to kill every passenger on board the Demetish-flagged vessel. The response from Demetland has been mute, apart from the arrest of the Tropical Times journalist Genesis Langman Jr who brought the evidence to light. In the statement the Gauliscian Chancellor apologised for the “innocent deaths” but said that “it had to be done”. It is claimed by the Gauliscians that a number of Homofront militants were on board the Rainbow Hull. While the sinking would amount to an act of war against Demetland, the Kingdom appears to be taking measures to cover up and control the damage done by their ally.

The attack has enraged Rainbow and LGBT communities abroad as the Rainbow Hull was known for catering to the Springstiler Rainbow community and the Gauliscian attack has been described as the “epitome of intolerance”. The Rainbow Society of Wanka called it “not only an act of war against Demetland, but a cruel display of the extent of the global witch-hunt of queer people, simply on the basis that we reject traditional and oppressive social and gender structures.” For days the hashtags #StandWithRainbow and #LoveWins had garnered the most hits as widespread sympathy for the LGBT cause erupted. Chancellor Röder himself laid it out as a “despicable and disgusting act of barbarism” but did not elaborate on how Wanka would respond. However, the Rainbow Society has announced that it will, along with the Kronstadt University Student Union and the Worker’s Party, lead nationwide ‘anti-intolerance and solidarity’ demonstrations against Gauliscia, and it is expected that these will be the largest anti-Gauliscian demonstrations to rock Wanka since 2003. Minister of the Interior Petro Sokolov has said that federal police will be deployed to protect Gauliscian citizens, businesses and property from rioters in what many fear will be a repeat of the 2003 pogroms.

It comes amidst worsening relations between the United Realms and the Federal Republic following the arrest of Bernard Vogts, the director of the Gauliscian division of Rabensburger Verlage AG on charges of espionage. The Wankan Foreign Office has denied that Vogts was a spy and has issued a diplomatic protest demanding his release and return to Wanka. Within Wanka, left-wing Worker’s Party firebrand Georg Eberts has seen a surge in popularity pushing the parties’ protectionist agenda, particularly with the newly declared ‘War on Boar Sausage’, a controversial topic amongst the local pork industry which has fears that Wankan pork products are being forced out of business by cheap Gauliscian imports. “They are threatening the Wankan sausage.” Eberts said in a speech to the Farmer’s Union. “Boar sausage is an insult to our way of life. We will not stand by and have gross Gauliscian junk shoved down our throats!” However, while the ruling National Socialist Unity Party deliberates its campaign options for the upcoming elections, experts have said that a trade war with Gauliscia would be equally detrimental to Wanka. “Gauliscian imports are tied to Wankan Schnapps exports.” Dr. Walter Wagner of the Institute of Strategic Policy said when asked for a comment. “Raised tariffs on sausage mean raised tariffs on Schnapps, and while symbolic sanctions may be emplaced, neither of the two largest economies on the Sea benefits from a reduction in trade.”

100,000 FLEE VIOLENCE IN SHENTONG

GMÜND- The number of refugees fleeing the ongoing violence in the New Phallian-controlled Shentong province has now exceeded 100,000, the Red Cross said, with its humanitarian aid operations stretched to the limit of their capacity. It comes amidst one of the deadliest episodes of unrest between the Sainese minority and the New Phallian government, whose King Thiers Armand is taking on increasingly more of government affairs and sets New Phallia on a strongly belligerent course toward its neighbours, with whom it has few good relations. About five hundred thousand people remain internally displaced, a large proportion in so-called "reservations", with around 50,000 refugees in Atla.

Monday saw heavy fighting in Kuantong between New Phallian troops and the Shentong Liberation Army which has for half a century fought a bloody insurgency for Shentong independence. March saw a string of coordinated ambushes on the New Phallian Royal Ground Forces stationed in the Shentong, leading to over thirty dead New Phallian soldiers. King Armand promised to respond with "brute force", resulting in the largest air and ground offensive in the mountainous region since 1996 which later led to a short war between New Phallia and neighbouring Atla. Human rights activists and aid organisations have decried the "terror tactics" which the military is using. "We are seeing indiscriminate bombings, systematic demolishing and burning of Sainese homes and even reports of summary executions." Red Cross Chairman Wilter Steinmeier said. "King Armand is mounting an ethnic cleansing campaign and implementing the long-planned genocide of the Sainese people that New Phallia has always denied." Leaks from the New Phallian Government produced a Shentong Plan, which involved replacing the local population with New Phallian settlers and in that manner secure the mineral-rich region for New Phallia.

Atla, which New Phallia accuses of supporting the Sainese separatists, led condemnation by governments around the world. "The blatant murder of the Sainese people cannot be allowed to continue." the Atlish Prime Minister said in a statement. "We condemn in harshest terms the persecution of innocent people." The Chen Royal Court also warned King Armand personally to "cease your insane rampage immediately or face the consequences." The Wankan response was more measured, Foreign Minister Kirchhof calling on "all sides to cease fire and work on restarting the peace process." King Armand responded angrily to the Atlish and Chen, claiming to be "ready for a repeat of history."

Gmünd — Reports have been coming en masse claiming that recent operations by New Phallian Royal Ground Forces continue to drive the humanitarian crisis already affecting thousands in New Phallia's troubled Shentong region. The number of refugees from the Shentong now exceeding 100,000 as heavy fighting continues in the region, which is facing it's bloodiest period in decades. The ethnic Sainese minority have been increasingly affected by the policies of King Thiers Armand, who is increasing his royal authority in government and aggravating already contentious relations with The Chen Empire and the Third Republic of Atla. Despite what the government calls "reservations", many have commented that upwards of 500,000 people remain internally displaced due to government action, with Atlish authorities reporting that 50,000 refugees have sought safety within their borders.

The Shentong Liberation Army has been acting increasingly belligerent, striking government positions at levels not seen since 1996 in their bid to create an independent Shentong. Just this March, a string of attacks on New Phallian Royal Ground Forces has led to the deaths of approximately 30 soldiers, with an unspecified amount of SLA militants killed. As retaliation, current operations are the promise of King Armand who threatened to retaliate with "brute force", again the likes of which have not been seen since the short but brutal operation that took place in 1996, followed by an intense and ill-fated war between Christoslavia and New Phallia against Atla. A massive air and ground offensive, documented by human rights activists and Red Cross members has been leading to several reports of ethnic cleansing, with some reports going as far as claiming that King Armand is moving towards a genocide of the Sainese people. Aid organizations and individuals alike have reported the military's use of indiscriminate bombings, extrajudicial and summary executions, the burning of villages and civilian homes, and "brutal terror tactics". The Chairman of the Wankan Red Cross Wilter Steinmeier is quoted as saying, "King Armand is mounting an ethnic cleansing campaign and implementing the long-planned genocide of the Sainese people that New Phallia has always denied.". Earlier leaks directly from the New Phallian government have alluded to, if not highlighted, a "Shentong Plan", which seeks an ethnic cleanse and relocation in order to secure the mineral rich region.

The Atlish Prime Minister in response to the growing crisis has said, "The blatant murder of the Sainese people cannot be allowed to continue. We condemn in harshest terms the persecution of innocent people.". The Chen Royal Court followed suit with it's own statement, warning King Armand to, "cease your insane rampage immediately or face the consequences.". Despite the harsh rhetoric, the Wankan response by Foreign Minister Kirchhof was far more diplomatic and measured, pleading "all sides to cease fire and work on restarting the peace process.". King Armand himself was not shy in making a statement, threatening the Atlish and Chen to be " ready for a repeat of history", alluding to the prior border wars fought with both nations, which New Phallia has more or less come out of victorious.

In Christoslavia this morning, the response by the Department of Foreign Affairs was also measured, with the official statement showing calls for, "Peace and accord among all players. We condemn the violent actions of SLA terrorists and offer condolence to the families of the lost soldiers. However we equally condemn the alleged atrocities inflicted by the New Phallian Royal Ground Force, and as allies to the Kingdom, plead a peaceful resolution to this crisis, and urge the utmost restraint with maximum regard for civilian wellbeing. The alleged reports of abuse, while unsubstantiated, must be considered, and measured with the actions of brutal seperatists. Christoslavia will send all humanitarian aid required as a testament to our decades long friendship with the Kingdom of New Phallia, and we will continue to support the government of King Armand in finding a solution".

CHRISTOSLAVIA OPENS MARKETS TO NEW FRONTIER

The Citadel-Just minutes ago, the National Assembly in a bitterly contested and heavily partisan vote passed legislation reforming the Christoslavian tax code and economy; the most significant change in the country's history since economic restructuring in 1984. The People's Union Party which holds a plurality of seats in the Hall of the Senate, and forms the ruling coalition with the Justice Party in both chambers came out strongly against initial versions of the bill when it came to the Finance and Tax Committees early this May.

By June, the bill, titled "The Tax Reform and Market Liberalization Act of 2018", passed made it's way to the Appropriations and Rules Committee in the Hall of the People, prompting several boycotts of parliament by left leaning Justice Party and the majority of People's Union MP's. Intense lobbying by business and government interests turned debate over the bill violent as fights broke out in Parliamentary and Committee sessions several times, with some MP's suffering minor injuries. Public confidence in the bill has soared to almost 70% in urban areas, while more rural areas under the People's Union are polled at roughly 50% in favor and 50% against.

The bill came to a floor vote early this month after intense markup sessions in Committee. Alterations and additions to the bill seen as unfriendly to the quasi-socialist state were repeatedly amended by Peoples Union MP's until a final vote was forced on the bill. Justice Party whips and the whole of the Revolutionary Party managed to pass the Hall of the People's version in a 404-124 final vote.

The bill faced a nasty uphill battle in the Hall of the Senate, where People's Union MP's pledged to filibuster and boycott any reading of the bill, using several parliamentary rules to delay the floor votes. Economic leftists in the Justice Party and 3 dissenting moderates of the People's Union Party ultimately passed the bill through committee and brought the bill to a floor vote. Discussion and filibustering continued for a record 36 hours until a cloture motion passed and with baited breath, Christoslavia watched as the bill passed 105-74. Final agreement between houses of the National Assembly passed again and now the bill goes to the desk of Supreme Overlord, where People's Union officials are hoping for the bill to be defeated without argument.

There's been speculation recently, about what Supreme Overlord will actually do with the bill, passed not 3 hours ago. Although he was a chief architect of Christoslavia's current quasi-socialist economic system, he has not fought recent statements criticizing the over-saturation of the public sector and the lack of foreign investment from powers like Achesia and Aemen.

Specifics in the bill include massive de-regulation on several key industries to boost foreign investment, while maintaining relatively strict oversight, creating several investment funds for social welfare programs speculated to run dry by 2050, lessening taxes on corporations while leveling income taxes on certain brackets, lowering tariffs, and loosening regulations on the exportation of Christoslavian goods outside of the Arms industry. Economic think tanks and the Federal Office of the Budget have projected the changes to stimulate the economy and raise the GDP steadily over the next 10 years. As a response to the passing of the bill, the Christoslavian Stock Index has reached a record high 27,000 points.

While the legislative battle is over, the economic predictions and the intense partisan attitudes by the people put Supreme Overlord in a tight spot. Is this a direct challenge to his authority? Or a recognition of the need for change?
