Antheis Discussion Thread

Postby Federated Kingdom » Sat Jan 28, 2017 10:42 am

Antheis

Antheis (Ανθεισ) arises from the womb of Anthea (Ἄνθεια), the Queen of Elysium and the mother of all nations. This world is tucked away into the thresholds of NationStates’ wider multiverse, with a plethora of many exotic cultures, religions, and countries; both analogous and new to our known existence.

Those who wield the flames of technological enlightenment continue to bicker and conflict for dominance of Heaven and of Earth, with their power growing over peripheral regions like waves.

The new age is also marred by a new age of war – not through the open fire of guns or nuclear devastation, but of psychological debilitation and proxy combat. The existence of overseas colonies with fealty unto their Empires breeds resentment of their overlords, and many nations wishing not to fall into the sea of unknown history pledge themselves to the monoliths of supranational organizations.

This is the discussion thread of Antheis, to be used for in-depth conversations concerning worldbuilding, regional canon, and planning roleplays. All members, invitees, and applicants may post on this thread, as may those seeking to learn more about the region.

I've begun work on some of the Elystrian (not!European) NPCs at the moment, which are of course available for applicants to 'adopt' or replace entirely. Essentially, I'm imagining we've got a not!French 'confederation' as the equivalent of France, French-speaking Belgium, and French-speaking Switzerland (of course open to changes if people want certain areas to be independent), which provides the bulk of power on the continent for the liberal democracies. Then, we would have a social democratic not!Portugal in not!Iberia, which would be heavily militarised and a firm ally of the Federated Kingdom.

Onto the fascist / nationalist / right authoritarian powers of Elystria. We've got Aufwachen in the place of Germany (1939 borders) and Austria, probably along with Netherlands, Flemish and German Belgium, greater German-speaking Denmark, German-speaking Switzerland, and a few other regions I've missed out. Essentially as much of a Greater Germanic Reich could be achieved, whether it be through the Second Elystrian War (which is essentially if WW2 was short, restricted to Europe, and ended with a German victory and the status quo on the Franco-German border) or subsequent plebiscites afterwards. Aufwachen's existence is pretty much set in stone.

Then we've got the minor-but-slightly-important NPC fascist / nationalist / right authoritarian powers: not!FascistItaly, not!FascistSpain, and a not!FascistIntermarium. The not!FascistIntermarium isn't that fascist, though it is nationalist and authoritarian, and it's primarily focused on keeping Aufwachen as an ally to keep the Comintern and the not!FinnishUSSR out. not!FascistItaly is pretty much Mussolini's Italy (it's based off the Italian Social Republic) but a bit more competent. not!FascistSpain is pretty much Franco's Spain.

There are a few puppets of the not!Axis bloc throughout central and eastern Elystria, but I'm thinking that we'll expand on those later and focus on the major not!Axis nations for now. They provide a defensive curtain against the not!FinnishUSSR satellite states to the east, with Aufwachen and the not!FinnishUSSR dividing up eastern Elystria among themselves during the 1940s.

That's it for now, but I think I've managed to elaborate upon the basic Elystrian geopolitical climate.

Comments are welcome as always.

Should we be partial to discussing means of acute role-playing?

For example, we can have roleplay threads where all members can post, and that can be divided between a news thread, past events thread, and current events thread. Of course, we can also have more sophisticated roleplay involving two or more nations with their own respective plot lines.

My other question is: since Antheis is not bound to the rule of being a closed region, can we interact more acutely with other nations not Anthetical? (Of course, most attention would be vested inwards.)

Role-playing with non-Anthetical nations can help to alleviate some writing block when writing solely in-region, can expose Antheis to new readers, and construct a more positive and elaborate relationship and reputation in the regional community.

A central news thread would work, though perhaps it could also contain links to national news threads (of members of Antheis, of course) in some form of index? Not too sure about a past events and current events thread, though something similar to the anthology in Elprus could be created - I was thinking perhaps we could make two threads, one for canon vignettes and one for non-canon vignettes. Would that work?

We could also of course roleplay out historical events as needed. Though, I'd say certain historical events such as the first and second Elystrian wars would be more of a collaborative writing exercise than an actual roleplay. On the issue of the first and second Elystrian wars, we need to determine how exactly they're going to go. Perhaps we could do that over the next few days?

As Antheis is an 'open world' region as opposed to a 'closed world' region, members of the region may interact with external nations and be able to consider it regional canon. Personally, I'm all for it.

Just do one anthology thread and get people to label it whether it's canon or not

I'll take that into account.

In the process of the creation of the America continent during the mapping process, I am considering for an arctic supergreenland as my next nation. You know, like a test.

Once the map's complete, let's begin doing major referential parameters within it (migration, climate, currents, topography).

Sorry for contacting you this late, but progress on this mapping process is still ongoing depending on whether I have the time to do so (I still have my own assignments to deal with)

Has anyone at this present time started work on a general history for Elystria yet aside from the WW2 conflict yet? I'd work on my IIwiki article right now but I don't have too much to work on as of right now. I can't write my current history due to a lack of drafted out ideas and until we have a fully completed map we can't even consider climate and environment. I'd rather not work on culture if at all possible, so unless somebody is willing to start drafting suggesstions for the canon of my section of Elystria I will likely just write my own history which will affect the canon of anyone who would likely apply in that region.
