The Western Isles Climate Change Summit 2017 (OOC|TWI ONLY)

Postby Ipland » Wed Jan 25, 2017 7:44 pm

The Western Isles Climate Change Summit of 2017 (TWICCS 2017)

The Western Isles Climate Change Summit of 2017, also called the Kirsdoff Summit, will be held in Kirsdoff, Ipland, a small town minutes away from the national capital of Ipland City.
Representatives from nations all across the Isles will come together to reach a universal agreement among participating nations on climate and the reduction of greenhouse gases and the steps nations will have to take to reduce them. Topics such as goals for the reduction of greenhouse gases, steps to achieve these goals, rising temperatures, and climate in general will be the focus of the summit.

The summit will be held at the Adentren Centre in Kirsdoff, Ipland starting in the first week of February

This OOC is for general discussion on the summit itself, what your nation wants out of the deal, etc.
Any ideas or anyone wanting to join after the IC has started can be posted here.
Also, I don't want my nation to have more power over the agreement.

- Things like:
- Should nations which produce more emissions have more sorta restrictions?

- In general what your nation would want

(ex. to reduce emissions by 30% by 2028)

How big should it be? By big I mean talked about/crowds nearby, etc.

THE IC THREAD IS HERE

Oster representatives will be there for 3 reasons:
- Ostehaar is heavily invested in research of climate change and earth sciences, so it would be silly not to arrive.
- Making other nations realize the dangers of climate change is always good.
- It's an opportunity to promote Ostehaar's nuclear industry - a powerful substitute for old energy production methods.

Travencian representatives will be sent as a mixed delegation of diplomats, scientists, and business interests. There's a multi point plan that includes...

-making international nuclear connections and integrating the Travencian industry with the international industry.
-sharing of climate data, observations, and academic theories
-to ensure a fair and workable agreement is in place for the TWI region at large
-to promote its budding alternative fuel automobiles.

One goal is to come to an electricity generation agreement between the nuclear generators and other renewables like solar/wind/tidal for baseload and peak demand agreements

Noronica will send a representative to ensure other nations recognise Noronica as a nation that is trying to make the world a better place (yay for political gain!). It will also be there to try and promote nuclear energy (influenced by Ostehaar's reactors in Noronica) and the use of renewable energy.

I will be there. However, we should really figure out how deep into this we're gonna get. My college studies dealt heavily with environmental law so I'd like to know how in depth (or rather how not in depth) you want to get with this summit. I don't wanna put forth a bunch of criteria pollutant limits if that's gonna overstep the purpose of the RP.

Not too in depth, So far I think the summit will focus mostly on the big issues, such as rising temperatures, targets for nations to try to meet within some time, etc.
This isn't for sure, though, so we could go more in depth in some areas as well

And extreme events! I want to remind all (and I'll mention it in the IC) that a year ago the northern nations experienced an abnormally severe storm (news about from Ostehaar and Polar Svalbard, for example).

Most likely coming. Kandana's definitely going to be heavily affected by climate change projections, what with it being a tropical and humid country, and with densely populated coastal cities.

Hmmm, in that case maybe we focus on setting up a carbon quota and a disaster relief fund/response ?

Tectonix will be sending a delegation; the environment is critical to our economy and way of life. Renewable energy will be part of our main foci for the summit.

Kalorphi will send a delegation. This is due to the fact that Kalorphi's environment is falling apart, because of rampant expansion in the past.

So to everyone participating, what do you plan for your delegate to want?
Would your nation's delegate want more restrictions or argue for fewer?

Definitely more, as well as a comprehensive regional plan to minimize emissions and pollutants in oceanic regions.

Polar Svalbard will be sending one delegate and an aide. Their purpose will be to show Polar Svalbard's commitment, but not to let the nations assembled go too crazy with plans and ideas. They'd like an effective treaty that will start limiting carbon emissions and will encourage the use of green energy.
