2017 Pisdari Legislative Election
2017 Siga Lumarza'ama Pishdargir
2017 Élection législative pisdarois
4-5 February, 2017
Reeling from corruption revealed by Loupgate and a devastating months-long general strike, the Legislature of Pisdara has agreed to hold early elections for February of 2017. Violence has erupted on the small islands the weeks before the election, and it is expected to continue along with the campaign. During this tense period, who will return to the Legislature victorious, and who will see their fortunes crumble?
WHAT IS THIS?
This is an interactive election for the 2nd Pisdari legislative election. Here, you can roleplay as a political party and/or candidate during the campaign and try to gain seats in the Legislature. Campaign, form a platform, and bloviate as hard as you can to win support and votes.
Important note: This roleplay is for nations in the region of Esquarium only. Sadly, I will not allow those from outside the region to RP here.
HOW DO I SIGN UP?
Great question! Just fill out the application below and post it to this thread. I will approve (I 99.99% approve it ) the application and provide the party's translation into Pisdari and French.
You have the choice to RP as a political party, or a candidate, either running with a party or independently. I suggest that if you feel you have enough personal time to RP here extensively, choose a political party. If you feel you may be strained or busy to not RP here a lot, I suggest running as a candidate. Another note is that Pisdari politics runs on two spectrums, the traditional left-right division, and the more contentious divide over whether the free association with former colonizer Ainin is helpful (pro-free association) or hurtful (anti-free association). Keep this in mind when you are making your party/candidate.
Helpful Hints: If you wish to run as a candidate for an already existing party, please make sure that the main RPer for that party knows first and has given their approval. For picking names for your leaders, I suggest using these generators for Pisdari and French.

THE SITUATION IN PISDARA
The six months since the last legislative election has been far from peaceful. In October, public support for the government collapsed after it was revealed that certain deputies had been bribed by textile manufacturer Loup-CGT in order to stop investigations into worker abuses and promote pro-monopoly stances on issues such as trade. Due to this, the moderate parties have all but collapsed, and a general strike, called by the radical Revolutionary Labour Federation, has ravaged the nation for over three months. Violence and terrorism is on the rise, with daily clashes between the strikers and authorities, and a horrific shooting at an Ashuragar mosque by a white nationalist on January 2nd. International tensions have also become tense, especially with nearby Ankoren. Whoever forms the next government will have to immediately deal with ending a popular strike, subduing violent organizations, and try to balance Pisdara's connection with Ainin and local push towards Nautasia.
Notes about political structure and government
The Pisdari political system does not operate like most political systems, where there is a clearly defined government and opposition. Instead, the Pisdari legislature runs on the basis of a consensus government, where all deputies represented in the Legislature are part of one of four committees dealing with a government function. These committees are headed by the Speakers, deputies who act as the collective head of state and government, much like, in our world, Switzerland. Therefore, forming a coalition is not really a goal in Pisdari politics, although one could gain a numerical majority to push some key policies.
For voting, Pisdara uses single transferable vote (STV) to elect 23 deputies. There are 9 constituencies, electing 2 to 3 deputies each.
