The OP has been updated.
You can now get into the Discord chatroom through the OP — the link has been added there. Also, it's nice to see that we now have 17 nations signed up, with 3 of the 13 participating users bringing along puppets. Feel free to bring in more puppets — max. 2 per person!

also the name of the entrant from my puppet skanden is technically greek for 'bee movie' just wanted to point that out

All the details on WHF30

Revisiting Vodiznad
Image
Picture of Vodiznad at night, at center is the iconic Velikstav Walkway

Vodiznad (population: ~586,000) is the capital city of Izmedu and the founding city of the young democratic republic. Recently, it has entered the international spotlight by being the host of the 29th World Hit Festival, successfully housing 10 delegations and delivering a well-received contest, one in which the host country won on its home soil. With the chance to host as winners, Vodiznad re-takes the hosting baton. Last edition, Vodiznad was presented as a city that takes pride in being a contradiction by being a melange of old and new, with old landmarks standing proudly to state of the art architecture and activities. This time, we'll focus on what makes Vodiznad a city of youth and endless opportunity, despite it carrying the moniker of Izmedu's oldest city.

Vodiznad has long been known as Izmedu's capital of culture, both classic and cutting edge. Many of Izmedu's cultural landmarks, especially those that are built fairly recently, find their home in the capital city. For those interested in experiencing culture while not wanting to be overwhelmed by the crowds described in the WHF29 opening act, Vodiznad offers a host of museums waiting for flocks of international visitors. One can drive from the airport to the Muzeja Vima, a neo-art museum celebrating the concept of living and life itself, showing rather avant-garde depictions of old still-life paintings (with an entire section dedicated to Vodiznad itself if you want to see the city in painting). For those wanting a darker approach to an artful excursion, the Historija Vodiznada is a choice for history buffs wanting a quick but semi-comprehensive tour of Izmedu's darker past prior to its limelight in the international stage.

Of course, one of Vodiznad's premiere aspects in showing itself as a city of youth and energy is the proliferation of nightclubs that dot the city, especially those that surround the city's landmark waterfront. Touched upon in the previous contest, Vodiznad's night clubs for WHF30 hope to show further integration by opening itself up to international guests even earlier. These nightclubs are known locally to be where Izmedu's biggest stars make their start before being launched into record deals. The most famed nightclub, the Ganer Velikstav, is located near the waterfront and is rather well-known for being one of Vodiznad's most active nightclubs. Compared to most other clubs in the city, the Ganer is capable of attracting large-enough audience to keep the parties alive well into the next day (note that Vodiznad is notorious for having nightclubs whose closing times are regularly 5 to 6 in the morning), and just recently it was the site of a large post-WHF29 after party.

For international guests seeking a natural experience, Vodiznad offers resort-quality beaches without the trappings of the resort nearby; instead these beaches are completely all-natural, well-preserved, and connected to the similarly preserved Rub Grada nature trail. These beaches are located in the outskirts of the city in the southern tip of Vodiznad, almost skirting the city limits. Near the beaches are smaller hostel-styled but luxurious and more intimate hotels that are in place of resorts. These spaces of course come at a greater premium versus your typical hotel in Vodiznad, but are well worth the price if you prefer your WHF stay to be more quiet and well-away from the city except for the contest proper.

The Theme - “Boundless Energy”
“Boundless Energy” represents the multitude of possibilities not only within the host country and host city, but the possibilities of music that are presented within the contest. As Vodiznad hosts the contest for the second time, the city hopes to show that despite its increasing age, the capital is still a place of “boundless energy” and endless opportunity. In many ways, hosting the contest is a show of endurance and pride on behalf of the city. Of course, the contest itself is not just the host city. “Boundless Energy” itself is also a celebration of the freedom and self-expression of the World Hit Festival, WHF itself is a form of “Boundless Energy,” represented by the countries that send songs to the contest without being tied to the strings of being coerced by another nation. Countries are free to send what they want, how they want.

WHF is a world of limitless opportunity in which its greatest strength lies in its participants, who show a passion and energy for the contest that keep it going. More significant than perhaps any other aspect, the selected theme hopes to express that the “boundless energy” of the contest comes from the contestants themselves. They are the fuel that keeps contest running, the lines that hold the expression of music together, and the sounds that are recorded in the albums that immortalize the contest. So long as the participants are there, the music can continue, and WHF can stand as a limitless bastion of music.

The Venue
Image
The Dragulj Arena post-WHF29

Taking the lessons learned from WHF29, the Dragulj Arena (new capacity: ~15,200) has recently undergone a massive internal renovation improving aspects such as stability, arena functionality, interior aesthetic design, and energy efficiency. While the arena exterior remains much the same, the Dragulj's interior has been extensively improved to show a greater use of space as well as providing a much more comfortable WHF experience for the crowd. A newer insulation system has been installed to address an older system verging on the dysfunctional, and the lights have been replaced with CFLs to preserve energy while maintaining strong color. The arena, since WHF29, has gained greater public prominence and has become, for the moment, the venue of choice for seasoned performers once again as the arena was facing underuse prior to its initial hosting of the World Hit Festival.

Stage Design
Image
Picture of the stage in a dress rehearsal

Owing to the dramatic interior changes of the Dragulj Arena, an entirely new stage has been developed for the upcoming WHF. Versus the semi-intimate but rather spacious stage of WHF29, the WHF30 stage focuses on wideness and scale, a sort of 'return-to-basics' design while retaining some concepts from the previous contests. The most prominent part of the stage is the large background screen that stretches from stage end to stage end. Versus the previous edition, the new background screen is capable of producing illusory 3D effects and can render even more detailed graphics as it can now support a greater resolution of detail. Another aspect of the stage is the roundabout catwalk that surrounds the pit; this design was undertaken due to the belief that having such a catwalk will increase the dynamics of this edition's performances versus the largely contiguous stage of WHF29.

Remaining the same from WHF29 is the pre-installed stage and lighting effects. A conduit is once again present in the ceilings above the stage that can create a curtain of sparks, to air, and whatever material the delegation so desires so long as it isn't hazardous. Conduits are also on the floor edges, most prevalent on the catwalks (which can release air, fire confetti, etc. Delegations can add material upon request provided it meets safety standards). The screens themselves also act as a floor, and thorough testing has found that all parts seem to present the same aesthetics, so delegations are free to peruse the floor as a screen to their needs. Holographic technology also returns with improvements from the previous edition, with holograms now having greater capabilities to resist stage lights. However, an important aspect of the stage differs much wildly from the presented picture.

Image
Orchestra in that mosh pit near the front of the stage, rehearsing.

Differing wildly from the picture of the stage provided and upon discussion within RTI, the audience pit surrounding the roundabout will instead be an orchestra pit capable of comfortably fitting an orchestra of about 65 to 75 people. These changes were made due to a desire within the channel as well as in consultation with international delegations for a much more live sound, as well as noting how orchestras were well-received in previous WHFs. With the new orchestra pit at hand, delegations now have the option to perform their song live with the orchestra or through playback, either option acceptable. Delegations are also free to bring in a conductor with them, or use the provided conductor from RTI (the identity of whom shall be revealed when the IC thread is opened).

Postcards
The dual postcard and header combination returns from WHF29, but the postcards shall be approached differently this time around. Versus the three templates that were on offer, the postcard's textual design will vary based on the presented picture that nations have put up. Each nation has been asked to send a picture that represents WHF30's slogan, “Boundless Energy,” and the very picture that is sent will quite literally be the postcard, with some added modifications. The provided picture will first have their color palette modified in order to fit the logo color scheme or their national colors. After the palette has been modified, the nation's name will then be integrated into the picture using the slogan's font, with the entry information being wrapped below or above the nation name.

The header will follow a similar style to the previous edition's headers. It will show the basic entry information, ie. The running order, artist, song name, and nation, that is interspersed within the logo. The logo of course, will change to fit the color scheme of the nation in question. As customary from WHF29, the header act as the link to the postcard.

Image

The Voting
The voting is the one aspect of World Hit Festival 30 that will borrow rather heavily from WHF29. As it is being held by the same hosts, the voting procedure will remain much the same from last edition. The 1 through 4 votes are to be presented first, followed by the 5 points from each nation. However, RTI acknowledges the increased number of sign-ups of new and returning nations, and thus might be a bit unfamiliar with the new method of revealing votes (which were pioneered by Kalosia and Britonisea for WHF26 and 27 respectively). To start off, the way we will reveal the votes is that we do them in 2 phases.

Phase I of the voting will concern itself with the lower, 1 through 4 votes that each nations has allocated. We will go through each nation in a random order to reveal the 1 through 4 votes that each nation gave. There will be no active scoreboard or spokesperson for this part, with the host being the one to reveal them. After all nations have had their 1 through 4 votes, a half-time scoreboard will then be revealed with every Phase I vote added in. Statistically, Phase I represents about 66% of the total amount of votes that can be given in a particular WHF.

Phase II of the voting thus focuses on the 5 points that each nations give out. We will go through each nation for a second time, in a different order, to find out who they gave their 5 points to. For this phase, an active scoreboard shall be utilized to help spectators keep track of where their favorite lies, and also where the national spokespersons are utilized. Statistically, Phase II represents about 33% of the total amount of WHF votes, but keep in mind that these 5 points can cause dramatic movements around the scoreboard.

While it was revealed during the contest proper for obvious reasons, we will address the question of ties here. In a tiebreaker situation, the voting enters an emergency Phase III. The tiebreaking procedure remains much the same from previous editions. We focus on the # of nations who voted, down to who had the most 5 points, 4 points, all the way down to one. In the unlikely event that a World Hit Festival 26 happens (two nations have the exact same points breakdown), the winner will be decided by consulting the draft thread and looking at which of the two nations had an earlier edit. ICly, this will be handled as which nation received more televotes.

Enclosed are sample graphics that use the WHF29 results and also a similar template as well. They are subject to change for refinement.

That completes the IC details of WHF30. Host, opening, and interval acts to be revealed at the IC thread's opening.

Thank you! :) I've been waiting to showcase the city at night as well haha. I might update the post w/ more pictures of Vodiznad, as I have an entire album floating around in my laptop.

Had a change of heart as to what I wanted my tune to be. I found the tune inbetween WHF27 and WHF28, but was kinda afraid to use it. Now... I think I know what to do.

The new Izmeduan entry will be Katarina Zunic - "Standing Tall" (tune: Kelly Clarkson - Piece By Piece (Idol Version). Original sign-up post will be updated to reflect the change.

The deadline for the draft thread to open has just passed which means...

WORLD! START. POSTING. NOW!

The WHF30 draft thread is officially open! Much of the same policies and etc are carried over from WHF29, so for past participants, not much has changed.

If there are any questions, ask them here or through TG.

Happy posting! :)
