Ainslie wrote:Let's talk about the Cooperative Union
Gday all, it’s resident bogan Ainslie here with another initiative that i’ll end up spending way too much time on. As many of you may know, Covonant handed the management of the Cooperative Union over to me OOC shortly before he left. Well, I’ve been thinking a bit (and writing a bit) and got some early stuff up and going for the Cooperative Union to move onwards and upwards. I’ve categorised this post into three parts.
What needs to be done
Agencies - I need to work out what agencies exactly are active/operational right now, where they are and if they need to be moved because a nation went inactive and if there’s any agencies pre-existing that need to be formed. One of the major things I’ll be trying to get done is an Economic Advisory Council agency which will advise prospective and current member-states. It won’t have a thread, but will work in the background to sure-up the storyline we got going here.
Address declining rates of membership - Through a bunch of reforms I’m not entirely sure of yet but will likely include me trying to get new amendments to the Treaty of Coventry going, a new admissions process and an increase presence of the union in the TWI’s postings.
Crediting Covonant - He’s done an amazing job with the Cooperative Union and there is no way I’m going to try and pass off that effort as my own. As a result of this, I’m trying to push into my canon references to Covonant such as the “Marl Covonant Centre for International Studies” which will be a major information provider for the new CU factbooks and the “Treaty of Coventry” will likely be named after the architect/major writer of the treaty [first name] Coventry. I also intend to credit as per the standard tag system as well.
What is changing
A whole lot of new positions are opening up for characters - these come with varying degrees of involvement. CU member-states are being offered the option to change the names of their CUCJ judges (TG me over the next two weeks or so for that) and there’ll be upcoming elections for Secretary-General and chiefs of various agencies
High Commissions - In a similar manner to the Commonwealth of Nations, CU member-states will be offered the opportunity to build “high commissions” (kinda like embassies) near the headquarters of the Cooperative Union in the International City near Lereneau, Ainslie. These will allow for better communication between nation-states and the CU and will further reinforce the integral role of the member in the activities of the Cooperative Union. These high commissions will be only open to full members of the Cooperative Union (please telegram me with the name of your high commissioner, the chief of the high commission, if you’d like to have one of these buildings in Lereneau). These will primarily operate in the background, although mentioning it in passing is highly encouraged in news posts etc
What could be changes in the future
- Many of the ideas under this list I’ll be trying to get through IC as opposed to OOC, with an aim to get majority votes that way and place it into canon
- The creation of a CU Trade Authority to try and mitigate the drawbacks of free trade
- CUCJ Cases regarding questions surrounding CU law are heard by three judges whereas all other circumstances are heard by five.
- Partial memberships or observer statuses for interested nations.
So that’s about it for now, links to the new threads will be coming as I don’t have access to Covonant’s threads and I haven’t really seen him around that often. New factbooks for the CU are coming onto my account now and once the majority of them are done I’ll post the links on the RMB (keep up to date using dispatch activity if you want to see them earlier) If you’ve got any questions, feel free to throw them at me. Lemme know your thoughts as well on this. That's all I've got in my head in writing now about this...
Cheers,
Ainslie.

I (Ingalund) would be very interested in joining any such union - even as an associate or observer.

What's some information about yourself (hobbies, interests, country, etc.)? I work as a salesperson by day and I write short fiction by night. I love literature and gaming.
What kind of nation are you trying to make? My nation will be Bureaucratic Monarchy - Where the ruling family has united with wealthy companies to rule the nation, but companies often vie for power and attempt to unseat each other from various positions.
Anyway I'm excited to see what nationstates has to offer. I played once quite some time ago in the early 2000's while in school and thought I'd check back to see if the game still exited. It seems that in fact it does.
