Ok, everyone, I've created this thread for us to use for working on getting ideas and discussing roleplaying in Forest.
I know that there's already a thread in Forest's offsite forum, but I decided to put this here, because not everyone has a forum account, especially new nations, which make up much of the RPing-interested crowd. Even though it's good to get people to join the forum, simply for convenience, it's here.

First— these are the nations I have so far that have said they are doing roleplaying:

Are all of you still interested? Are there other people who'd like to do something—you don't have to be very involved, just would you be ok with your nation being used In-Character?

Also, I would like to propose the formation of an international alliance or union of states with mutual defense agreements, etc. that could possibly be one side of a division (think NATO/Warsaw Pact). What are your thoughts?

(Veteran RPers who are probably snickering right now at my attempts to organise something I know nothing about— your input is quite welcome! :))

A note— I am going to create an Organisation of Forestian Island Nations (OFIN), with membership open to all island countries in Forest. So far, Tishanda has expressed an interest.

More details to come!

Still interested and great idea Seymour. I think this is just what we needed to get started.

Alliances sounds fun and have a lot of potential. Forestian Cold War anyone? :P

Count me in. I don't know how much I'll be able to RP if an IC goes up, but I'm hear to help with what ever you need. I've done quite a bit of war RP and am actually an officer in training.

I can help with world building, setting up some sort of conflict, aragning treaties, other stuff you guys might need or want

Sorry, you're not located in Forest, and this is a Forest-only thread (as would be any RPs). Thanks for the offer, though!

I appreciate this being on the main forums, it feels more permanent here (easier to search and so on) than the RMB. (However, the way the offsite forums are set up now, you don't actually have to register to post, so there's no real incentive to create an account!)

I'm not sure Zwangzug would be ICly interested in joining an alliance or mutual defense pact, but might send observers to snark at some kind of discussions as they shape up.

In the meantime, advertisement again that anyone who wants to send a character or interact with my current thread, it's over here. And/or, you can TG me behind the scenes if you want to secretly affect plot events/which characters influence things more or less/and so on.

I propose an international organisation called the United Alliance of Forestian States (UAFS), which would function as one of the major international alliances in Forest, possibly in rivalry with another alliance.

Here's a flag:

Mount Seymour would be the founder; who else would like to join?

**Also, island union people:

I like both flags but that one for the OFIN is beautiful! Nice job.

Beautiful flags!

I'll consider either joining the UAFS or founding my own alliance.

I'm interested. The amount of times I can post may be limited, but I'm in.
Conserative Morality wrote:"It's not time yet" is a tactic used by reactionaries in every era. "It's not time for democracy, it's not time for capitalism, it's not time for emancipation." Of course it's not time. It's never time, not on its own. You make it time. If you're under fire in the no-man's land of WW1, you start digging a foxhole even if the ideal time would be when you *aren't* being bombarded, because once you wait for it to be 'time', other situations will need your attention, assuming you survive that long. If the fields aren't furrowed, plow them. If the iron is not hot, make it so. If society is not ready, change it.

OFIN nations:

I've made an IC thread for OFIN, where we can work on the framework for the new union:

So if I create the UAFS, who would organise the opposing side? Furthermore, who would be on each side?

I'm thinking that UAFS-vs.-[[Antagonist]] is the main division, and then OFIN is a group which has nations from either side/nations that are neutral, and it sides with either alliance depending on what it feels is best for its interests.

What do you think the dividing line should be? In the case of NATO versus the Warsaw Pact it was communism versus capitalism. Is that issue similarly divisive in Forest? (Maybe it is, I'm not sure.) What does UAFS stand for (what does Mount Seymour stand for?)

Probably not going to take part in a military alliance, just brainstorming.

Hmmm... that's the problem with RPing in a region with a central theme like Forest-- nations in Forest tend to be pretty eco-left, at least in political ideology. So it might be hard to divide that way.

Unfortunately, I rarely have time for RP these days and Calenmor has a traditionally neutral stance to most conflicts anyway. However, those actively playing should feel free to reference Calenmor whenever appropriate and message me if you have any questions. On the off chance I do get a moment for a little RP it will probably involve small units that have decided to go and help one side or another, refugee politics, humanitarian aid, or Calenmori business' attempts to navigate the tricky world of neutrality during war-time.

Well from what I've seen in Forest is that there could be a strong divide between how the nation state achieves eco-friendliness. For example, a more moderate Nordic model, compared to a eco-authoritarianism/extremist system.

Examples
Moderate Nordic Model - Mount Seymour
Eco-Authoritarianism/Extremism - Unhuman Reserves

Unfortunately, we don't have Unhuman Reserves, and I don't think there are many other nations interested who'd consider themselves 'eco-extremists'. Although I agree that in general the region is divided that way, the RPing group is a bit different.

So here's my proposal for what could be the division:

Eco-Friendly/Nordic Model (UAFS)
Not Especially Eco-Related/Militaristic?
Neutral

Caracasus, I'm not really sure where you'd go; the same for Potira, I don't know enough about you.

Frieden-und Freudenland, I'd certainly categorise you under the 'Eco-friendly Nordic Model', but given the historic "cooperative tension" between you and Mount Seymour such as in the Kolaxa Scandal, I think it would be best to preserve that and have you instead be a major leader of the third-party OFIN, playing to whoever's interests you think best.

I don't want to impose anything on anyone-- do you think this type of division would work, and if so, do you agree with where I've placed you in the organisations?

Perhaps a third, Agricultural, faction? I know Pohjoinen is a largely agrarian society. Unless that could fall into the Nordic/Neutral models.

Spitballing, but (in contrast to more social democrats) are there some countries who are anarchists/mostly dissolved the state? Or are they predominantly non-RPers?
