Brief History of your nation: Zeljunaar as a country was founded in the late 1300s after the conquests of Hezyolos unified the microcontinent of Gegeinhimdah out of its myriad tribes. Under the rule of him and his successors, Zeljunaar was a brutal theocratic absolute monarchy whose effects can still be seen in the relative religious homogeneity of the Tursaal (much less the idea of a Tursaal people). The main support for its continuance came from merchants and traders, who could for the first time safely conduct their business. When European powers came to the Pacific, much like the Chinese, foreign trade was heavily restricted - this did not directly lead to the events to follow, but it certainly did not impede them. In 1816, a group of government officials directly below instigated the Uprising, which took control of the capital city and effectively took the King hostage with the demands of political reforms. Over the course of the next months, the Constitution was forged, which began the gradual transformation of Zeljunaar into the modern liberal democracy it truly began to be in the late 1800s.

The sunlight filtering through the window reflected off the steel locker, and as it closed, it flashed across the room, and past Kenlikkran’s eyes, causing him to scrunch his eyes momentarily.

“Kenlikkran, hi kroson fah Eylok Zothunrot?” Kenlikkran’s head turned, and he looked at his counterpart donning his robes. Although he was nearly six decades old, he seemed to put the carefully woven piece of clothing which looked as though it had been cut from the night sky on with an excitement and vigor half that age. Nonetheless, even with that vitality, his eyes conveyed the experience of the years behind him.

“Nunon fah vogaan tikke. Ok krosorun lost siid gein Zu'u kroson fah,” Kenlikkran started putting his arms in the robe, only to momentarily stop in remembrance of the lawyer. “Rok lost pruzah jul. Nii lost paak tol rok dir fod rok drey.”

Faxthuniik bowed his head and closed his eyes momentarily. “Vrah. Fod Zu'u hon do dii mindovinro dinok, nii drun zey pogaas krosis.”

Kenlikkran raised his brow, eyes slightly widened. “Eylok Zothunrot lost hin mindovin?” he asked, surprised. He’d only been eighteen when Faxthuniik acceded, but he distinctly recalled all the coverage surrounding Faxthuniik’s prior career as a hotshot lawyer. He’d studied under the tutelage of such big names as Dwiindol and Gosvah Worax, and had even managed to help successfully argue two cases before the Supreme Court. Hearing that such an obscure lawyer as Zothunrot had not only been a colleague of Faxthuniiik, but his respected first mentor was a surprise, to say the least.

“Dreh hi dahmaan ok vahzensaag?” Faxthuniik watched Kenlikkran button up his robes.

“Zeydaan los ni fos Volney saag,” Kenlikkran recited as if he was back in Zothunrot’s office. “Nii los wah miinahsul jah do enook sil ol waan nii los jah do Gosvern.”

The two men smiled for a moment, cherishing memories of simpler times. Seeing that Kenlikkran had finished donning his robes, Faxthuniik’s smile faded. “Shall we proceed, Kenlikkran?”

Kenlikkran took on a more solemn demeanor as well. “There is no reason not to.”

Faxthuniik rose from the steel bench, and Kenlikkran walked to his side. With both at the other’s side, the two proceeded out of the locker room and into the back hallway. As the two proceeded down the passage, light streamed through the stained glass window at their backs, and their steps echoed off the yawning maw.

After a moment, the pair came to a stop outside the heavy wooden doors to the court room. Koraaviik stood beside them at attention, staring in the direction the pair’s backs faced. None of them had so much as glanced at the two men.

It had only been a handful of weeks since Kenlikkran had acceded, and it had both been more and less than he had been expecting. He was no stranger to politics or courts of law, but being on the other side of things was something that even the most well-versed of politicians could not entirely prepare for.

“Yein naaleinuv gralle, stahdim malqothhe ahrk nahlon vundde,” Faxthuniik murmured. “Hi Zu’u nahfaal; wah hi Zu’u ofan dii draan.”

Kenlikkran looked at Faxthuniik, who stood with his head bowed and eyes closed once again. He remembered his days at mindaziir, and taking a class on world literature. It was one of the few literature classes he could tolerate at that point in his life, and he’d made the best mistake of his life by deciding to write his term paper on the syncretic nature of Pahleinun. He had wound up going massively off topic in that paper, instead describing the history of how Pahleinun had changed as a result of the Uprising and the Constitution.

He’d ended his paper with a proclamation that Volney would laugh at the idea of the role his work played in Tursaaluv society. His teacher had ended her grade with a mark which made him barely pass the course, and a half-joking recommendation that he pursue law over theology.

“...neben nonvaal vensekos do Zeydaan,” Faxthuniik continued to murmur. “Dein ko niist haal revak ro fos maat dren do muz ahst skuld do ul!”

In spite of his admittedly lacking commitment to that particular course, it had nonetheless managed to shape him in a way beyond the “recommendation,” if only by helping him gain perspective. It had been that perspective which had drawn him into where he stood today, in one way or the other. But looking at the man beside him, he could not help but wonder what kept that spark in Faxthuniik, given the time which he had been in his office.

“Eh! fod hahnu do laas oblaan, fos fen ruz balaar pah niil sturonne, waan ni gein pik do brah reyziin undin?”

He’d always been wary of the station which Faxthuniik held. It was not necessarily for doubt of the institution’s legitimacy, but perhaps for the circumstance behind it. The days of Zuluth and his ilk were but memories kept only in works of ink and binary, and they were well-remembered by the Tursaalle. But - and perhaps it was that he had not yet been in such a place as Faxthuniik for long - Kenlikkran felt what he could only describe as a strange distance between himself and Faxthuniik. And yet, his predecessor had confided in him that he had found no greater trust in a person other than his family than that which he held with Faxthuniik.

“Oo Gralle! wah hin hahsok Zu'u fen daal!” Faxthuniik concluded. “Zu'u fen yah ontzos stiildus do hin sulvek; ahrk til, gut nol brudaat kosovaatte do smoliinne, Zu'u fen elskah ko dahmaar lokaal do jul, Zu'u fen ahmil dimaar nau fosothhe droz pruzah fah mok, ahrk wahl dii meyar unazom nau ativut do ok.”

“Fos drun hi wah nahfaal ahrk draal?” Kenlikkran thought aloud quietly.

Apparently, it wasn’t quiet enough. “Fahraal wah nahmul dii tumah Zu'u siiv ko tumah do jul,” Faxthuniik answered. He looked at Kenlikkran. “Zu'u lorot hi fent siiv pogaas onikaan til ahk.”
