Brief History of your nation: The Qing Dynasty, the last of the Chinese Dynasties, was overthrown in 1912 by Sun Yatsen and his Nationalist Party, who created the Republic of China. However, by 1913 regional warlords began to take power, and Sun was exiled to the south. In 1924, he created an alliance with the budding Communist Party of China. When Sun died the following year, his successor Chiang Kaishek took the reigns of the Nationalist Party and created a united military Front with the Communists to unite the nation and eliminate the warlords. Once the warlords were (nominally) overthrown, however, Chiang turned against the communists and began attacking them. An arduous civil war ensued from 1928 to 1937, when the Japanese openly attacked China. Once again, and united Front was formed, this time against the Japanese, and in 1945 the Second Sino-Japanese War (known in the rest of the world as World War 2) ended. In 1946, the civil war started up again between the Communists and the Nationalists, with the Communists gaining the upper hand by 1948. In February 1949, Chiang was assasinated by a Communist insurgent, and Mao Zedong set up a communist government in Beijing. However, before remaining Nationalist forces in the south could be defeated, Mao died of pneumonia, leaving the task of running the new nation to Zhou Enlai. Zhou, being more of a diplomat than a soldier, coerced the remaining Nationalists into the new nation with the provisions that they would be treated fairly and that the nation would retain the original name, the Republic of China (the "Great" at the beginning was added later). Some of the ideas Mao had created for the country before his death were kept, but most of the original system devised by Sun Yatsen held its place.
