Hackers Who Shut Down Various Illicit Websites Hired by Government
27 January 2018

A number of hacking groups in Dreyvisevich have helped to shut down over 40 illicit websites containing child pornography, illegal drug trading or black-market information dealership over the past year. Usually comprising of 4 to 5 hackers each, such groups normally operate outside of government jurisdiction. However, as technology becomes more prevalent in society, more and more like-minded citizens have taken matters into their own hands. One major group that has been conducting operations since 2009 has been offered a place in the government cyber-security agency and has readily accepted the position. Declining to give their names, the group commented that "recent actions undertaken by the government like this one have really shown how we can work together to put an end to illegal web activities and make the world a better place." At least 20 other individuals have also been drafted into Dreyvisevich's cyber-security network as of late. Some are concerned that the anonymous hackers might betray the government, but as one hacker put it, "I've worked for 4 years to help the government get rid of unlawful web content, now I've been granted the ability to work directly with them, meaning we have a much wider access to tools that can find and shut down these sites and users". "This isn't information security we're part of, it's creating a better internet for everyone to enjoy." Many seem optimistic about government policies, which have slowly become centered around government-citizen co-operation for a brighter future.

Dreyvisevite Guards At Veleazean Border Caught Playing Dice
27 January 2018

Even though tensions have been high around Veleaz recently, it seems that all is well at the border checkpoint between the two socialist states as Dreyvisevite guards were caught on camera numerous times playing various games with the Veleazean guards, including dice, cards and even chess. The checkpoint only sees less than 20 people a day, mostly consisting of curious Dreyvisevite explorers and the occasional Veleazean immigrant who managed to attain a pass to leave Veleaz. Said one guard, "We've all worked so long here that we decided to try chatting to pass the time. I mean, what else is there to do? Short conversations slowly turned into casual banter. And now we're here, playing a nice game of dice." It is currently unknown whether either government condones such behaviour by the border guards, but it does show that there is hope for Veleaz to change and go on the route of democracy. As one journalist summarised: "The citizens are willing, but the government is not. What can they do? They have no freedom."

Government Encourages Local Farming to Reduce Cost of Food
27 January 2018

Importing food is expensive and contributes to food prices across the country. By encouraging more citizens to grow fruits, vegetables, herbs and spices at home, whether in their backyard or in community farms, the government hopes to reduce the cost of food and increase the country's ecological well-being. However, there is a continuing emphasis on sustainable and responsible farming, to avoid eating into the natural plants and alter the ecosystem. Growing more such food at home also contributes to a reduced carbon footprint, not just by giving plants that take in carbon dioxide, but by reducing the amount of food imported per year, less transportation is required, saving energy and removing sources of pollutant emission, like food processing factories and import distribution hubs. "It's not going to be an easy road, but its necessary to ensure the long-term sustainability of our country," stated President Dushkin in his speech at the recent Presidential Meet-And-Greet session, "we have to all work together to create a better place for our children, and our children's children. The future is now! If not today, there will be no tomorrow." There is an ongoing debate in government on whether subsidies on agricultural supplies and benefits for those home-growing crops can be given. If the move passes, it may further increase the cost of certain import-only foodstuffs, but will also be one step in reshaping the country. The benefits of subsidised agriculture include cheaper food overall, smaller carbon footprint, decreased rural-urban migration as well as better usage of land.

Rochellle, (27/1) PM Luix Emmanuel has officially opened the restoration project of the Rochelle old town, originally built by Midrasians in the late 18th century to the early 19th century. The restoration project, which has been postponed numerous times before, has said to be the defining moment for Indragirians of Midrasian decent which number around half a million (or 1% of the country's total population) to be fully integrated into both Midrasian and Indragirian culture. The old town, which has been in shabby conditions since the return of Rochelle to Indragiri, has been a noted tourist attraction for domestic tourists. Restoration will attract more tourists and even foreign tourists, especially from Midrasia. The cost of the project is estimated to be around Rp. 150 millon, and will be fully funded by the local government with help of funding from the central government.

PM Luix Emmanuel opened the ceremony at 8:30 AM local time and spoke to thousands of citizens of Midrasian decent in fluent Midrasian, a rare event in a nation where less than 10% have some competence in foreign languages. PM Luix Emmanuel also signed a new decree stating that new buildings in Rochelle must adhere to strictly Midrasian Baroque or Rococo architecture, and old ones are not to be changed into modern looking buildings to preserve a piece of heritage inside the country. PM Luix Emmanuel wants Rochelle to be "So Midrasian that you'll forget you are 10,000 km from Midrasia."

The Restoration project is set to be completed early next year, and many hope that the restoration project will bring in many benefits for the locals. (Dewi Sri Rahayu)

CONSUL PRAISES ROCHELLE RESTORATION PROJECT
"Restoration of port town will be basis of greater ties" says Portas
Image
The new Indragiran initiative will see the old colonial
port restored to its former glory
LOTRIČ - Consul Melcion Portas has praised the Indragiran governments new initiative to restore the old town of Rochelle. The port town was once a Midrasian colonial concession and still plays host to the vast majority of the country's ethnic Midrasian population of around 500,000. The Consul has stated that he is "delighted" with the move and hopes that this could be the start of a new blossoming relationship between Midrasia and Indragiri. The Consul also stated that he would be interested in making an official state visit to Indragiri at some point in the near future.

Rochelle hasn't always been a highlight in the cross-cultural ties between Midrasia and Indragiri however. The island, which was officially handed back in 2004 was once a huge point of contention between the two nations. Whilst in 1904 the territory was officially part of a 99 year lease, this did not stop a number of Indragiran nationalist groups from attempting to take the territory by force. Within the 1940s and 60s a number of attacks took place which killed several locals. Nevertheless, today those tensions appear to have subsided, with the territory returned and Indragiri a member of the Mydramonde. A particular watershed in this relationship however was the election of the ethnically Midrasian Luix Emmanuel as Indragiran Prime Minister, displaying a new harmony between Midrasian, Indra and Giri. However, that is not to say that all in Indragiri support the project. Several more outspoken nationalist groups believe the move draws attention away from desperately needed infrastructure programs elsewhere. The most vocal critics also dismiss the project as "glorifying colonialism". Speaking on the matter however, the Mr Emmanuel stated that these groups are "in the clear minority" and that the project will provide
"a great cultural and financial boon to Indragiri in the long run."

Indeed, the project appears already to be highly popular at home in Midrasia, with many suggesting that Indragiri may be their next holiday destination. In addition, a number of Midrasian holiday companies are potentially looking at extracting concessions from the notoriously protectionist Indragiran government, in the hopes of being able to greatly boost trade and tourism between the two nations. However, they note that in order for this to happen, it is likely that Mr Portas will have to make an official state visit to the Savaian nation. Speaking to the Liberty Bell earlier today, the Consul said that he would be "delighted" to visit Indragiri. "I've heard Indragiri is a beautifully diverse nation and a key up and coming player on the world stage. It is in Midrasia's best interest to court good ties with them. You can be assured I will be on the phone to Mr Emmanuel and his associates within the coming days to discuss how our nations can better cooperate in the future, be it through diplomacy, economics or cultural exchange."

Savaian Alliance Left In The Cold?

New Hope -The Queen dined with other royalty and national leaders as 38 million people from the Kawanakan archipelago were welcomed into the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations, extending its reach into the Jade Sea and raising fear to some member states of a new influx of migrant workers. Fireworks lit the skies over the island nation as membership became effective midnight, with the Queen describing the event as historic.

It comes almost two decades after Ajerrin’s brutal war of independence.

But correspondents say enthusiasm for the CDN in the country has been dampened by the Ajerrin First party and a growing anti-globalist sentiment.

Celebrations took place in the Queen’s palace outside of New Hope, with fireworks and music including the Ajerrin anthem. “Welcome to the CDN!” President of the Aeian Council Anna Storgaard said in Ajerri to the cheering crowd.

Queen Lani said it was “a great and joyful day for our homeland”.

“This is the day when we open a new chapter in our thick book of history,” she added.

Earlier today the Queen told a meeting of CDN and regional leaders” “The accession of Ajerrin to the CDN is confirmation that each one of us belongs to a democratic set of values.”

Ajerrin officials then unveiled CDN signs and removed customs posts at certain airports, signaling a more open and transparent nation. Both Ajerrin and Caruolinda were approved as CDN members at the start of the year. It’s been nearly four years since the nation applied for acceptance.

But with Ajerrin’s fast push into the global scene this past year some citizens feel joining an economic bloc puts unnecessary competition on the smaller islands and will do little to improve their prospects.

“Just look at what’s happening in Weilele and the southern Tongoni cities. Is this where we’re headed?” asked xx in a market near the capital. “You need illusions to be joyful, but the illusions have long gone. The Ajerri people are losing their own voice in its own nation,” he told the citizens.

Concerns about Ajerrin stability remain among some CDN leaders, but advocates of CDN membership say despite this, their case remains a persuasive one. Two-thirds of Ajerri voted in favor of accession last year. “Its important for us primarily for the long term guarantees of political stability and then everything else - the single market too,” Ajerrin’s Prime Minister, Toko Konohiki, told the ANN Network.

The CDN itself has given Ajerrin a clean bill of health and praised reforms which improved the rule of law and democratic policies.

“We hope the other countries of the Savaian Alliance, New Timeria and Indragiri, will be encouraged to join - and secure a long term peace for a historically turbulent region,” Royal Conservatives Party President Laimia Tokoki said at the gala.

Five years since Sabaninian Coup - "Patience is everything"

Image
Sabaninian President Fakebba Jammeh inspects military forces

In Arabekhi politics promises more often than not are merely hot air, especially when told by military officers who have just assumed power. This has been proven today, when President Fakebba Jammeh made a speech five years after his "Committee for the Rejuvenation of the Sabaninian State" (CRJSS) took power in a military coup in the aftermath of the "Sabaninian Spring". Five years ago, when he took power, he promised that he would "fashion a state that will be able to survive the instability that democracy can bring and build a lasting foundation for the Sabaninian people". He stated that it would take five years to complete such a task, making many Sabaninians view his regime as a transitional phase. However, these illusions have been shattered today when President Jammeh spoke at Unity Day celebrations in the capital city of Djama.

In his speech, he stated that progress had been made but that due to "militant elements" in Sabaninian society he was unable to say when elections could be held. It is believed that he was referring to the various ethnic separatist groups which have been waging war on the central government since the late sixties. He then repeated the traditional bambara saying "Sabali yonkontê", "Patience is everything". He told the crowd that they had to be patient as "great changes take a long time to be fulfilled". Several civilian groups have planned protests against this announcement, accusing Jammeh of trying to become a dictator and remain in power longer than he promised. Recently, Jammeh's regime have been attempting to purchase small arms and armored vehicles, a move some have claimed heralds a start of a more aggressive Sabanin and an escalation of the guerilla conflicts.

FORCES CLASH IN BARROWTON
Sources say clash inconclusive and casualties high
Image
Crown forces have settled in defensive positions as the weather worsens
Barrowton - Following a series of disastrous events for the Crown and Kingdom of Newrey against the rebellious Republic, led by Raymond Holt, the two opposing forces in Newrey finally met for a true clash against the enemy, outside of the small town of Barrowton, population barely 2,000.

Describe by observers and participants as an 'Accidental bumping', a failure of reconnaissance and battle preparation by the two sides led to two patrols accidentally bumping into each other on the Barrowton High Street, which quickly devolved into a firefight. It quickly became apparent that Barrowton sat near a Republican camp as increasing numbers of rebels were able to quickly reach the town and force the Crown forces from the area. However, not wanting to take defeat lightly, Brigadier Chester Sherman ordered his force to take the town back, it strategic effect negligible and likely serving only as a propaganda piece to soothe the ill tidings that recent news have brought.

Soon after being force from Barrowton, the Crown forces returned with a vengeance, sweeping through the town with the power of a thousand horses, however it was brought quickly to a halt by the arrival of Republican air units, turning the town to rubble, forcing the Crown to the fringes of the town and causing the inhabitants to either flee or die as they begin to feel the pressure of two hateful forces squeezing against them as they raced to kill their enemy.

Currently, the situation has been described by embedded reporters as serious and inhumane as the defensive positions were hastily established, with one commenting that 'We're verging on conditions similar to the Great Asuran War. There's no drainage and very little cover from the wind as they are viewed as temporary, although strangely spirits remain oddly high'.

More on the story as it develops

REFUGEES CONDEMNED
Sources say clash inconclusive and casualties high
Image
Disgust as numbers rise
Wyllcombe- As news from the front continues to show an intensification of combat and a steadily rising casualty count, many civilians living in the area have been prompted to flee. While it would be expected that they would flee to either the Republic or Kingdom so that the men might enlist, instead they have opted for a more cowardly approach. To flee Newrey as a whole.

In response to the rising numbers of refugees making the journey over the Avadin Mountains, Lord General Ceolwulf Corpus, leader of the Newreyan Crown Forces, said this;

'With the war showing no signs of stopping and only becoming increasingly fierce, one would expect that men, both young and old, would flock to the recruiting stations so that they might have their part to play in this historic event. So that their name might be written forever in the tomes of history. And, one would certainly be correct. Record numbers of volunteers have bravely offered their life for King, Country, and God and deserve every piece of praise given to them. However, unfortunately, we are not here to speak of them. We are here to speak of cowards!

As brave men risk their lives so that our country may live on, we are faced by men who have lost their gender and turned gay. By that I mean cowardly, They would rather flee the fighting than take the path of a Newreyan and embrace it. Had our forefathers done something similar, it is likely that we might not be here today. But instead they fought and showed the world how a Newreyan is.

But these cowards would sooner shun name and nation than to fight for a worthy cause, fleeing south to Midrasia. In response to these cowards, I am authorising operations along the Newreyan-Midrasian border to take young Newreyan men cowardly hiding in camps and bring them into the armed force, where they might regain some shed of honour. Any Newreyan that has already entered Midrasia shall, at the conclusion of the war, not be allowed to return, nor shall their descendants. They have made it clear which side they are on, and we must ensure that they are capable of at least respecting that choice.'

The Midrasian government can confirm that the following ultimatum was sent to both parties involved within the ongoing Newreyan Civil War.
The document was drafted in co-ordination with the member states of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations and the government of Aleia.
The government will not be taking any further questions on this topic today, however will release information to the public as and when it is deemed adequate to do so.

Image
Commonwealth of Democratic Nations
and associated governments

To the governments of the Newreyan state,

It has come to the attention of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations and other neighbouring states that the current Civil War within the nation of Newrey has been escalating within recent weeks. Whilst the nations of Midrasia, Vilemyr and Aleia have taken considerable steps to securing their frontiers whilst allowing for the safe passage of refugees fleeing the conflict, the actions of both Newreyan governments over the past few days have greatly jeopardised efforts to contain the ongoing conflict to within Newreyan territory. Particularly, the action of patrolling border regions and pressganging would be migrants into the military is considerably worrying. Furthermore, our organisation and a number of other associated governments are appalled at attempts to revoke the citizenship of all refugees fleeing Newrey. Such actions show little regard for the rights of citizens, many of whom have no choice but to flee their homes in the hope of finding security, food and shelter away from war. Moreover, members of our organisation have also expressed concerns for the ethnic minorities and foreign citizens within Newrey. It is our hope that such groups will not also be dragged into this ongoing conflict.

Nevertheless, it is within the interest of the Commonwealth and a number of other states to ensure that this conflict comes to a swift end. Whilst all members of the Commonwealth call for both the armies of the Kingdom of Newrey and Folksland to lay down their arms and seek a diplomatic conclusion to this conflict, we realise that this is unlikely. As a compromise our organisation will seek to ensure that this conflict remains contained to Newreyan territory.

Thus, our demands are as follows:
  • To immediately cease impressment patrols along the Newreyan borders.
  • To allow for the safe and uninhibited passage of refugees into neighbouring nations.
  • To provide protections and guarantees to the security of the Veye minority in Newrey.
  • To provide protections, guarantees and free passage out of the country for all foreign citizens within Newrey.
  • To allow for the safe return of all Newreyan refugees following the conclusion of the conflict should they wish to do so.
  • To protect the citizenship and rights of any Newreyan citizen who returns following the conflict.

Should these demands not be met, the Commonwealth will have no choice but to take matters into its own hands to ensure the security of Newreyan refugees and of our national borders.
Our organisation will be working with the international community to ensure that a swift and satisfactory end is brought to this conflict.

OVI will be spared under Ihejirika, oversight increased

The President has announced that he will not seek the disestablishment of the OVI
By Aslan Mamoun, Staff Writer

Image
AL-KHATIN ISLAND, ONZA - After a month of briefings from Congress and internal deliberations, President Ihejirika announced earlier today that he would not pursue the disestablishment of the Office of Valuable Intelligence in the wake of the revelation that one of its rogue agents played a key role in orchestrating the 19 August terror attacks that left President-Elect Akbar Saab and more than twenty others dead.

"The OVI failed the Onzaian people back in August when an operation to thwart a terror attack turned into a double-agent assisted terror attack. That has not been, nor will it be forgotten," Ihejirika said. "But it is important to recognize the role that the OVI and its intelligence-gathering plays in enabling us to prevent terror attacks both domestically and abroad. That is why, while I will not dismantle the OVI as some have understandably suggested, I will order a series of sweeping reforms that I think will prevent further episodes such as this one from happening again."

The President specified that some of these reforms would include a restructuring of power, a responsibility to report to a standing committee that will be created within the National Assembly and another committee within the Senate, and a reduction in the number of agents and operatives employed by the agency. "The goal of these changes is to make the agency more accountable without crippling its ability to gather intelligence," he said.

The move was largely applauded by Congressman from both parties, with many praising the middle-ground approach. "There were lots of polar perspectives on the best way to address this fiasco," Dem Soc Assemblyman Faris Asif told reporters. "That is without a doubt. The President did a remarkable job bridging the gap between those polarities, even if some people still aren't totally pleased," he said.

"This was the right move for sure, but I'm primarily glad that we will be seeing a new appointment to head the agency," said Liberal Senator Irfan Zahir. "The decision to hand oversight to Congress rather than the Ivory Tower is also a wise move."

Some sources within the OVI expressed disappointment in anonymous emails written to reporters. "I don't see how one person's screw-up should cause me to worry about my job," one email read. "I had nothing to do with the case that went wrong, so I don't think it should have anything to do with me," read another. Some did support the decision, however, with the majority of such expressing relief that the agency wasn't axed altogether as was initially proposed in some of the early stages of Congress' inquiry into the agency's activities and procedures.

"The continued flow of intelligence is the only thing that will keep us one step ahead of the terrorists, but we have to make sure that intelligence is being gathered responsibly," Senator Zahir said. "We simply cannot have another incident rock the public confidence as the 19 August attacks did."

It was revealed shortly following the attacks that an OVI operative apparently colluded with a terror cell she was charged with infiltrating for sabotage purposes. Rather than carry out her mission, the agent reportedly allowed the terrorists to obtain the bomb used to kill Saab and the others during the inauguration, though evidence suggests the agent attempted to stop the bomb from being detonated at this point. Various leaders across the nation immediately condemned the move as reckless and demanded immediate, sweeping reform of the OVI, and in some cases, total dismantlement.

The agent's identity has been kept hidden due to her involvement in other operations that would be jeopardized if such information were released. Another person of interest was reportedly at the scene at the time of the explosion, though authorities have since conceded defeat in their effort to track him down.

Oshaxas Killer caught, Wallaisian politician implicated

Carcossian police agency assisted OCPD in unearthing intricate story behind killer
By 'Ammar Dakarai, Staff Writer

Image
KUNTA, ONZA - A series of bombshell press releases were sent to the OCNA moments ago by OCPD investigators working the case of the Oshaxas Killer. The investigation, which has now been concluded and has been passed to federal prosecutors, revealed not only the identity of the Oshaxas Killer (Yasin Wanjala, who is now in police custody), but also an apparent connection to a Wallaisian politician's staff, which apparently masterminded and funded the killings.

Jean Duclair Beaumont, a junior Wallaisian congressman, reportedly paid to have all three of the victims of the Oshaxas Killer butchered in a fashion that made the crimes appear amateur and ritualistic rather than like a professional murder. According to investigators, Beaumont's staff paid Yasin Wanjala -- an Onzaian banker who apparently began seeking work as a contract killer three years ago -- to kill three women who had earlier been hired for prostitution by Beaumont during a trip to Onza back in late 2016. Investigators determined that the three women refused on separate occasions to entertain a non-disclosure agreement and varying amounts of money in exchange for their silence.

The first of the victims, Mumina Jawdat, had apparently begun seeking avenues to publish an account of her encounter with Beaumont in March of 2017 when she was abducted and murdered by Wanjala. Wanjala told investigators that he was directed to approach the woman under the guise that he was sent by a major publishing company, from which he invited her to follow him to a meeting location. Wanjala led Jawdat into an alley where she was forced into the back of a car and kidnapped, later to be killed, mutilated, and dumped in a location supplied to him by his Wallaisian contacts.

"While [Wanjala] is obviously a sick man, the clear mastermind behind these killings is Jean Duclair Beaumont and company," a memorandum within the OCPD that was leaked to the OCNA said. "We should speak with MOJ [Ministry of Justice] about how to handle this."

Wanjala has also told investigators that he was given specific directions on how to mutilate the bodies of the women. He said when he inquired about why he was being asked to do so, his Wallaisian contacts said the goal was to make the killings appear unprofessional and ritualistic in nature so as to keep investigators from playing the angle of foreign-motivated killings.

Wanjala was also paid to kill Mojisola Galila and Shahira Qamar some months later when his contacts expressed some uncertainties about whether or not they would reveal details of the meeting. "Without a doubt, this is a cover-up," OCNA crime analyst Yaw Emem said. "Beaumont wanted to cover his ass after a regretful night with some foreign prostitutes and thought the unlikely connection would allow him to get away with it," he said.

A separate press release thanked the Multinational Center for Criminal Investigations (MCCI) of Carcossica for its "innumerable contributions" to the investigation. "Without the assistance of the MCCI and its investigators, a key angle to this case would have never been worked, and we would have never seen the truth come out," the press release said. The MCCI was originally created to investigate white-collar crimes in southern Asura as well as handle espionage-related matters during the 1960s. As part of the Jisthaheva Treaty Organization, the MCCI is also authorized to provide assistance to PDs of member states in investigating crimes of all backgrounds when requested. The OCPD reportedly appealed to the MCCI after hitting a hiccup in the investigation following the most recent death of Qamar, especially as questions were raised about the coincidental malfunctioning of cameras occurring just in time to obscure surveillance at the time of the killings.

"That angle is still under investigation, though we think the Wallaisian politician pulled some serious strings and had a program designed specifically to crack our city cameras without leaving a noticeable trace," a spokesperson for the department told the OCNA. "We've already directed the appropriate resources to where they need to be to prevent such a thing from being able to happen again," he said.

As of what's next, department spokespeople say that is up to federal prosecutors. "This case exceeds the jurisdiction of the OCPD," one spokeswoman said. "With everything handed over to prosecutors, it's now up to them how they want to pursue Beaumont, if they want to do anything about it at all." The OCNA reached out to the Ivory Tower and the Ministry of Justice, but spokespeople for both would only say that an official response would be incoming as soon as prosecutors have time to sift through the evidence and determine the best course of action. "I've been authorized to make it clear that appropriate actions will be taken," the Ivory Tower spokesman said.

The Newreyan Crown government can confirm that the following ultimatum was sent to all signatory nations of the CDN Ultimatum, as well as the CDN itself.

Image
Kingdom of Newrey
and associated territories

To the Signatories, Members, and Assembly of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations,

This memo has been written with cooperation with the Crown Council of Newrey, all members have been in some form greatly confused by the letter received from the Commonwealth as we were under the impression that, following the suspension of Newrey from the Commonwealth, the Commonwealth would have preferred to have kept itself out of Newreyan affairs, although the presence of conflict is an acceptable excuse for you to stick you nose into. The efforts of the Newreyan Crown Forces along the borders have been done to ensure that every able-bodied man is used in the conflict to ensure victory, we do not care for the international community's feelings towards this. We have no written agreement relating to the treatment of so called 'refugees', however we do not consider the fleeing cowards to be refugees, but rather draft-dodgers. The introduction of conscription affects all males aged 17-55, and to exempt one man from the draft simply because he is scared would result in a wave of draft dodgers. As such, we have taken it upon ourselves to ensure that the men serve their time, as any Newreyan man should do, for the sake of your much beloved equality.

In regards to the second demand, we cannot control where in Newrey the conflict takes place. To ask the opposing side to not attack this area because civilians there is beyond ridiculous, and if two forces are to meet near such a passage, then the safety cannot be guaranteed as combat takes control. So, we cannot guarantee the safety of fleeing cowards, but we will do our most to ensure fighting is limited in areas.

In regards to the Veyes, they have shown admirable loyalty to the Crown Forces, as such they are a Trusted Minority and treated as respect. Plans are in place to carve a Veye region in Newrey following the conclusion of the war.

The majority of foreign citizens are in the Rebellious Realms, and as such we cannot guarantee the safety of foreign citizens there, however we have no areas in which foreign citizens in the Kingdom where they can gather to report themselves there and we have no intention to, as it pulls manpower from the war effort.

As for the final two demands, we have no choice but refuse. We refuse to have cowards return to our country when the hard times are over, as such we have every intention in removing their citizenship. By fleeing their homeland during a time of great crisis, they have shown that they have no allegiance to Newrey and have betrayed it. We will make it easier for them to join the countries they fled to by removing their citizenship.

We have no cares for the interests of other Asuran nations, much less in regards to the conflict. We respect the borders and will not fire into your respective nations. Should a coward escape from a recruitment squad into another nation, then any chase that occurred will cease, thereby respecting the borders.

Signed:
Ceowulf Corpus, Lord-General of the Newreyan Crown Forces and Speaker of the Crown

Ihejirika: Extradite Beaumont to Onza for prosecution

The President has urged the Wallaisian government to extradite Jean Beaumont to the Emirates for prosecution, while acknowledging it's unlikely to happen
By 'Ammar Dakarai, Staff Writer

KUNTA, ONZA - The Ivory Tower has officially responded to the reports that the Oshaxas Killer acted at the behest of Jean Beaumont, a Wallaisian politician who had the victims killed to prevent them from revealing details of Beaumont's 2016 trip to Onza where he hired the women as prostitutes.

"I have taken time to personally review the evidence that was passed along to us," Ihejirika, who is a former prosecutor, said. "The proof goes beyond a shadow of a doubt. Mr. Beaumont and his staff in Wallais are, indeed, responsible for these killings. That is why I'm calling upon the leadership of Wallais to extradite Mr. Beaumont to the Emirates immediately for prosecution," he said.

Ihejirika noted that a lack of withstanding relations with Wallais, in addition to the knowledge that the nation is generally unstable, makes the odds of the call being heeded fairly minimal. "In spite of these obstacles, I am appealing to the Wallaisian leaders to give them a chance to do the right thing, in the hopes that they will do just that," he said.

It is unclear how the Wallaisian government has responded to the news, and the OCNA's attempts to contact Beaumont failed due to a lack of publicly available contact information -- an obstacle that underscores the wobbly political structure of the socialist nation.

While the fate of Beaumont is unclear, Yasin Wanjala, the man who actually conducted the murders, is slated to have a trial date set as soon as in the next three weeks. Prosecutors working on the case have indicated that they intend to pursue the maximum sentence possible for Wanjala.

Ihejirika also spoke in reference to the security flaws within the public surveillance system. "The OCPD filed a request for federal assistance in reviewing the security protocols that govern the computer systems behind the cameras. My administration has approved that request, and we are going to ensure that the network will be stronger than ever and unable to exploited in the manner it was here," he said.

FOR SALE: Old White Cabinet
(Not Functioning)

Image
The Cabinet in Question

Just days after an old Volgarian-made cabinet,
had been sold to the Aeia Dead Nations furniture
store, another government cabinet has gone up
for sale. This particular cabinet, of Newreyan
design, has recently been having problems, such
as rot in certain areas, and has recently become
unhinged. Allegedly the cabinet once shouted
homophobic statements at a guest of the former
owner, but some admirers of this cabinet are
hoping for a turnaround. One supporter stated
his intention to stand by the cabinet and to
support it with new fittings. The price for this
obviously outdated cabinet is set at around $20,
with some haggling to take place.

Grand Speaker Makes Decision; Vvarden Set To Intervene In Volgaria

After many days of deliberation, the Grand Speaker has spoken today to the Senate, announcing his support to intervene in the nation of Volgaria. The Grand Speaker adressed the nervous Senate today, insisting that he had spent "many sleepless nights discussing the issue and weighing the options" before finally deciding that he could "no longer stand by and hear stories about massacres near the border". This declaration has sent shockwaves throughout the Senate, and many Speakers from his own party are discussing in the open about a possible leadership change as well as defection to other parties, whilst fringe groups are drawing closer to the Grand Speaker. One thing is clear for most of the Senate, the Grand Speaker's decision, for better or worse, may completely change the political landscape of both his own party, and all those in the Senate. The Grand Speaker's most ardent supporter, the nicknamed "right hand", the Speaker for Foreign Relations, Luaosi Telaandil has supported the move, stating that "We are making this move to save lives, and to stop crimes being committed against the Vvardeni people. We have no wish for unnecessary violence, but we cannot simply ignore ethnic cleansing..."

Speaker for Defence Thorval Mavadil has announced that around ten divisions, led by Field Marshal Zirnniu Maneishpi, are allegedly taking up positions along the border in preparation for such an intervention, backed by airforce. The major concern, for both the Grand Speaker and the Vvardeni Army is that other Almannic nations, such as Rohst, would back Volgaria with either volunteers or direct military action. The Speaker for Foreign Relations, Luaosi Telaandil promised the government of Rohst that no action would be taken on Volgarian civilian targets, and all the action will be confined to areas close to the border, to prevent any unnecessary loss of life. The operations are expected to begin sometime in the next week, with the Vvardeni forces to slowly advance into certain areas and halt after the Vvardeni-majority provinces have been taken, with no further assaults made into the country. The Senate has sent an offical telegram to the Volgarian government, or what remains of it, that they "...regret resorting to such a method of safeguarding our people, but there is no choice on what must be done..."

The number of Volgarian refugees coming over the border is increasing, but authorities have stated that thanks to donations made by the Vvardeni people, there is little problem in getting supplies. Despite paling in comparison to the influx of refugees from the Wusten crisis, who have mostly either returned home or have become part of the Vvardeni populace, there is a lot more attention on these Volgarian refugees, mostly due to their stories, and the fact that a major power on Rennekka had quickly become destabilised overnight. Already there is a great deal of mystery about what exactly happened, and until the current unrest in what is nicknamed the "Black Spot of Rennekka" is solved, there will be no definitive answer. Satellite footage has showed that violence is continuing in areas of Volgaria, with military units besieging and firing artillery shells into the cities of Greidstadt and Stutschmidt. With the official Volgarian news incapacitated and the country plunging deeper into total collapse, it seems that the Zoroshthurvan News Service will soon become one of the few, if only, sources of information on Volgaria.

Grand Speaker's Popularity Starts to Decline in Wake of Decision to Intervene

In a recent survey following the news of the Grand Speaker's backing for an intervention to take place in Volgaria, around a thousand Vvardeni volunteers were talked to about the issue and their trust in the current administration. Whilst the results were not exactly controversial, they did show a sudden drop in terms of how much he was liked. Whereas a survey around a week before showed the average approval rating at around 68%, the results have shown it has now fallen to 60%. These findings, along with several Speakers speaking out about the Grand Speaker's decision, means that he will have a tough task ahead of him if he is to stand by his convictions. Speaker Gidaame Ientilu discussed today he was "shocked by the news" and has announced his intention to move parties to the KVP-led coalition, stating that he "hoped that the Grand Speaker would not undergo such a risky move that could drastically undermine our relations with nearby Almannic states..."

Both the DDSP and the KVP coalitions are expected to gain from this, but the Grand Speakers' supporters have rallied around their leader, and might just turn the tide.

Crown Prince Franz under house arrest, Military takes over.

Just hours ago it was confirmed that infantry from the Royal Army had stormed the royal palace and ordered most of the Royal family, Including heir to the throne, Prince Franz, under house arrest. Two royal guards were reportedly shot and killed by men of the 5. Panzergrenadierbataillon during the incident. At this current moment it is unsure if there. Many citizens and politician's saw some form of military intervention as almost inevitable following the death of König Konstant von Muerl I on New Years day. Prince Franz was seen as largely incompetent and generally unfit to rule by many members of the government including most of the military. Troops and AFV's are now stationed outside the Royal Palace and other government buildings within Constantia and major cities across the nation

The Supreme Field Marshal Marcus Adler is believed to have orchestrated the takeover and has declared martial law across the entirety of the country, he also is requesting to undergo peace negotiations with Vvarden in wake of their invasion. He was quoted as saying "It is essential at this time that we look for a solution to this apparent issue, however if negotiations cannot be made we will not hesitate to fight back and push them over the border in an attempt to protect and safeguard our national sovereignty." Adler is also scheduled to address the nation on television.

National Assembly To Address Impoverished Villages

National Assembly considering bill to fund renovations of impoverished areas

A bill in subcommittee aims to tackle the problem of rural poverty head on
By Imam Eskender, Staff Writer

Image
KUNTA, ONZA - A bipartisan bill is currently under consideration in the National Assembly's Finance Subcommittee that seeks to address the issue of rural poverty by spending tax dollars to improve the living conditions of the most underdeveloped communities in the nation.

The bill, which was authored by Assemblymen Rayyan Zulfikar (D. Soc) and Mahmood Yamikani (Lib), is the first time a bill seeking to address the issue of underdeveloped communities and their respective poverty has advanced beyond secretive deliberations. The bill would seek to improve the living conditions of the roughly 3,000 Onzaians who live in villages great distances away from even smaller cities by investing directly in their infrastructure. In addition to paving roads to the villages from the closest cities, the bill would provide finances to introduce electricity to the targeted villages by building independent solar arrays and wind turbines. It will also build homes that will replace the huts these individuals currently live in.

Both Assemblymen expressed with confidence to the OCNA that the bill would make it to full-committee review, and subsequently the appropriate reading calendars. "This is an issue we've always wanted to address, but never could quite pinpoint how," Assemblyman Yamikani said. "The surplus revenue gain we saw last year has left us with the funds to finally do something for these people," he said.

The poor living conditions of these distant communities first came to light in 1971, after freelance journalist Alinafe Fahd stumbled upon one of the villages and returned to film a documentary on the subject. Since then, 12 more villages of isolated people have been found. These groups are distinguished from uncontacted peoples in that they are remarkably similar to city-dwelling Onzaians,
sans the abysmal living conditions. Of the 13 villages, eight are without electricity at all, and only one has a steady supply. Five have no running water, and none of them have structures built that could endure winds beyond 45mph.

These communities were all sustained by imports from cities up until the Onzaian Civil War, when they were forgotten. Officials have long been hesitant to move these populations into the city out of concern for the adjustment to city life, as well as the unwillingness of many to be relocated. "We know that trying to get them to come get help doesn't work -- and for understandable reasons," Yamikani said, "so our hope is that by going to them, we will finally succeed in making a difference."

There has also been the question of whether or not it is the job of the government to do anything for these populations. "To be quite frank, they are living in those conditions voluntarily at this point," Azad Aqil, a Liberal Assemblyman said. "That's not to say they don't deserve help. We have programs in place to help people like them, but they won't make any concessions to allow us to help them."

"If their villages were in sustainable locations, we could consider simply paving roads to them and allowing them to grow to be just like the numerous rural communities that flourish around the Emirates. The problem is that they are miles and miles away from civilization, and trekking across these deserts to run a government just isn't feasible," he said.

The bipartisan bill would pave roads to all but two of the villages. It's estimated that maintenance will cost quite a bit, but Yamikani retorted that "whatever amount is necessary is worth it."

These isolated individuals are technically Onzaian citizens, and are kept supplied thanks to the work of aid groups around the nation. Since they do not have a valid address, and no means to collect any sort of funds, they do not qualify for welfare assistance from the government. An effort by aid groups to have the money granted to them to spend on behalf of these communities was shut down by the Supreme Court in 2011.

"While the Court can appreciate the efforts of these humanitarian groups, their methods are a violation of standing law," the majority opinion stated at the time.

President Ihejirika has promised that he would make efforts to revisit the issue of helping these people. Assemblyman Zulfikar told the OCNA that the President has kept tabs on the bill and encouraged its development. Former President Xolani Kojo made a similar attempt in 2013, where he lobbied Congress to at least debate on the issue, but was ultimately unsuccessful due to a vast gap in how far members on opposing sides of the spectrum think the government should go to help these people.

"It's easy to forget about these people, simply because there are so few of them, but that is not an excuse in this increasingly connected modern world," Assemblyman Zulfikar said. "It's my hope that [Congress] will recognize this and act accordingly."

Wallesian Diplomat in Onza Brutally Murdered!

Image
Comrade Jean Beaumont

Foul play is the cause of the recent death of Mssr. Jean Michel Beaumont and his family, with implication that the Onzanian government was responsible! Mssr. Beaumont was a valued member of the Party and an asset in securing relations with the Onzanian government and spreading the State's thunderous message both far and wide across Arabekh. As part of a ploy recently revealed by the Gendarmerie de la sécurité extérieure (GDSE), the capitalist pigs have framed Mssr. Beaumont for a string of serial killings within their corrupt capital, and went as far as silencing him to prevent the truth from getting out. Mssr. Beaumont was a war veteran of the Cheonsam War of Liberation and valued member to the Party, and will be duly missed by all of his comrades!

Following the reveal of the unfortunate news, the Party has publicly denounced Onza, warning the world that it is not to be trusted. Delegations with Onza will be ceased immediately, and no comment has been made by Premier Bossche as to whether future communications will be reestablished following this scandal. Our Supreme Leader has commented "The corrupt, capitalistic and warhawk government of Onza has spat in the face of the People's Republic of Wallais with this gruesome action. With this attempted smear campaign being run on one of our most veteran and upstanding representatives, it has become clear that Onza no long stands as a neutral party, but as an enemy to our collective State. Comrades, this slight is just another infraction in a long list of heavy handed measures taken by the Western Imperialist to sabotage the sovereignty of our State. Should pressure continue to mount against us, war will be the only option we have. The Midrasians and their Onzanian dogs seek to back us into a corner with their measures, but I say enough is enough! These movements against the Revolution delay our just cause to free the people from the shackles of imperialism! Comrades, we must stand together in the face of this threat and stand our ground!"

In International News

Fascist Leader and Exploiter of the working classes, Konstant von Muerl is pronounced dead in his Palace last Sunday afternoon. This is another nail in the coffin of Volgaria and its Imperialist neighbours Rohst and Vvarden, who are scrambling to secure the last vestiges of their crumbling empires...

The despotic Kingdom of Ajerrin seeks help from the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations, as it sits in the final throws of capitalistic demise. Of course, the evil powers of Midrasia and Aquidneck accepted it in with open arms, giving little claim...

Unrest grows in the Kingdom of Newrey in the North, millions upon millions of refugees flood our borders, seeing the light of Communism and the hope brings to the world. Our nation is a shining beacon of light to those willing to see it...

UDE Responds to Wallais

Ivory Tower no longer seeking extradition of Beaumont

Minister of International Affairs Dubaku Tau says he believes Beaumont was murdered by Wallaisian operatives
By Gafar Ashfaq, Staff Writer

KUNTA, ONZA - Wallaisian press confirmed in a bizarre report earlier this morning that Jean Beaumont -- the Wallaisian official who paid to have three Onzaian women murdered as part of a cover-up for a sexual scandal -- was killed. The report accused the "Onzanian [sic] government" of orchestrating the murder. The report also mistakenly referred to Oshaxas as the Onzaian capital. Furthermore, the Wallaisian government has apparently elected to denounce the UDE.

"Let me be perfectly clear, the Wallaisians have shown the world that they are running a circus over there rather than a government," International Affairs Minister Dubaku Tau told the OCNA. "It is the belief of the Onzaian government and any rational human being that Mr. Beaumont and his family were unjustly murdered by his own party following news of what he had done," the Minister said.

Minister Tau said that while Beaumont's death simplifies the judicial process, he would have preferred an extradition. "There's a reason why we don't observe the death penalty -- the killing of the man's family is incredibly heinous and hopefully catches the attention of the rest of the world," he said.

President Ihejirika expressed disappointment at a press conference when a reporter asked him about the news report. "I regret that this happened. Yes, the man would have received a maximum punishment here, but the right to a trial is something that I hold in high regard," he said.

Some Onzaian citizens took to social media to praise the killings, though many were shunned by other users as a result. "I don't see how problems sorting problems out is problematic," one Chirp read. "Then maybe you're living in the wrong country," one user responded.

As for the allegations against the Onzaian and, for reasons unknown, the Midrasian governments, the Minister had some strong words. "I view the allegations much like a giant would view a mosquito. Wallais is desperately clinging on to the unfortunate amount of relevance that we've granted them, but I'm confident that our sensible neighbors within the international community will dismiss this rubbish as the nonsense it is," he said.

Youngest Child Ever On
Aeia Found In Zoroshthurvan

In some ways, Melon is an ordinary kid.
He plays with toys. He loves to draw. He’s
learning to talk in sentences. But when it
comes to age, Melon is extraordinary.
Melon is 3 years old. You might have heard
of a 6-year-old, or maybe even a 5-year-old.
But a human being who is just 3? As far as
we know, Melon's January 31st, 2015, birth
date makes him the youngest child ever to
walk the face of the earth. The previous
owner of the title "Youngest Child Ever" was
a Crylantian 4-year-old by the name of
Strawberry Lesbos, recorded in 1951.

Pediatrician Goldelot Tinni stated today to
stunned crowds that "Melon is a biological
marvel. Someone might eventually surpass
Melon as the youngest, just as how we
thought Strawberry Lesbos was the
youngest back in 1951, but for now, no one
is even close. As for us, we’re hoping to
see Melon's name in the record books for
a long, long time to come."

Grand Speaker Agrees to Negotiations With Volgaria; Asks Midrasia and Rohst to Mediate Talks

Receiving the news of the Volgarian Supreme Field Marshal Marcus Adler's request for peace negotiations with Vvarden, the Grand Speaker has agreed to open negotiations between the two countries. Divisions along the border have been ordered to demobilize and stand down, and all planned offensive operations have been halted. The news came only ten minutes after Vvardeni troops had crossed into Volgaria, pushing only a kilometer or two into Vvarden's northern neighbour. The intervening troops are thus expected to return back to the Vvardeni border and stay there until a treaty is signed or not. Still, there remains a massive amount of uncertainty over this treaty, and the possible ramifications that might occur, all of which are upon the Grand Speaker's head. Many members of his party, the Si Saer Paarti, have acclaimed the decision to negotiate as a great decision, one that would "save Vvardeni lives but also save face, showing that whilst we do not want a war, we will do whatever we can to protect Vvardeni people". Other parties such as the DDSP and the KVP have condemned the move, with Speaker Tilvi stating that "Vvarden has a chance to slay the Almannic beast once and for all, and the SSP are throwing it all away", whilst the KVP stated that they wanted "To protect Vvardeni in Southern Volgaria by establishing an independent worker's commune in the area and letting them judge themselves, rather than just ripping the area from them".

Despite the Vvardeni agreement to Volgaria's offer of peace, the entire process of negotiating is as of yet unclear. Both sides have stated what they want to happen, in the first few communiques, which have done nothing to further a peace effort. However, in the wake of initial setbacks in terms of negotiations, the Grand Speaker has stated his intent to include an arbitrator to supervise and judge the entire process of a peace negotiation. In the search to seek a neutral country that has little involvement with either Vvarden or Volgaria, the list has fallen upon one name in particular, Midrasia. The decision comes after several factors, such as history with the two nations, distance and power status in the world, had been considered. However, due to Midrasia's involvement in the CDN, of which Vvarden is an observer, it is only right to include one from the CSS, and the choice has fallen upon Vvarden's neighbour, Rohst. Since relations with both Rohst and Midrasia have improved in recent years, the Grand Speaker trusts both sides to make a fair and un-biased opinion on what Vvarden should do, and what, if anything, it will gain.

Now that the unrest in Volgaria has more or less quelled in the wake of the coup by Volgaria's Supreme Field Marshal Marcus Adler, and his imposing of martial law, which has been met with little resistance, a trickle of Volgarians are starting to return home. Despite this, a large number have chosen to stay for all sorts of reasons, such as opposition to the new government, there being nothing to go back to, and even a few monarchist exiles, such as the cousin to the former Crown Prince Franz. The status of these political exiles is yet to be determined. If they have plans of causing harm to Volgaria, they will be sent back. Otherwise, they shall be allowed to exist in Vvarden and abide by Vvardeni laws. Volgarians have already moved in, alongside Wustens, in new neighbourhoods of Zoroshthurvan and Falstar, with one such area nicknamed "New Constantia" by both locals and Almanns. Committees and culture clubs have been set up to accommodate these new arrivals and settle them into life in a foreign country, with different food, languages and customs. Despite most of the results having been successful, there are a few that are refusing to be a part of Vvarden. It is hoped that, given time, they will become part of the nation, albeit with a different background and maybe with Vvardeni as their second language.

A Look Inside the Ivory Tower

Exclusive: A look inside the Ivory Tower

OCNA's Rasim Raza accompanied the President for a few days. Here's the look he got inside the Ivory Tower
By Rasim Raza, Staff Writer

Image
Image
AL-KHATIN ISLAND, ONZA - "But is it actually going to help people? Because if it's actually going to make their lives better, then I say there's no choice here -- it's our responsibility to do it," Mustapha Ihejirika, far reclined in his chair of fine leather, said to the Ministers and advisers gathered in the room. The question the President was addressing was whether the Ivory Tower should sign off on the recent legislation introduced that aims to improve the quality of life among impoverished Onzaians in isolated communities, and it underscores a major facet of Ihejirika's approach to the his position as the nation's chief executive. "That, sir, is debatable," Adel Rashad, an advisor, said in response.

Thoughtfulness and calculation. Much like his predecessor, those two virtues have been emphasized by Ihejirika since he formally assumed the Office of the Presidency just over a month ago. In this day and age, he reckons, paired with acknowledgement for the delicacy of playing politics in a nation where honesty has been heralded and deception scorned, treading cautiously in most matters is the most surefire way to locate the proper response. "I make that point with two major exceptions," the President said: "some things demand an immediate response, while a lot of issues, people would rather hear you speak unfiltered and from the heart."

And indeed, a man aware of his own habits, Ihejirika gained popularity at an unfathomable rate due to the latter. Rather than respect the expectation among the general public in the wake of the death of President-Elect Akbar Saab of a quiet, humble replacement, Ihejirika boldly owned Saab's agenda, and even more impressively, owned his passion as well. "When the party asked me to step up to the plate, I initially thought there was no way I could do it," he said, "but it occurred to me that I was being given a chance to ensure that [Saab's] vision and message weren't lost in the wake of that awful tragedy."

Since assuming office, Ihejirika has found unprecedented success in galvanizing public interest in policy and government while maintaining a seemingly-invincible approval rating. His support remains high, with an approval rating of 74% -- a rating unseen at this point in a presidency since Mirza Arendse left office in 2005. "Not to detract from Presidents Hussain and Kojo -- both did well in my opinion -- but increasing polarization in Congress unfortunately filtered up to the Ivory Tower, with people disapproving of the President solely for differences in party," Professor of Public Administration at the University of Akhmis Noureddine Bandile said. "To see that decade-long trend be disrupted, and to see a return to the so-called "mild" presidency is being welcomed by many Onzaians."

Bandile's "mild" term references a prevailing theory among Onzaian political scientists that holds that up until President Shakil Hussain, Onzaian presidents mostly maintained the status quo of their predecessors, and limited the amount of new policies they lobbied for. "In essence, the nation has been used to a fairly slow process in making ideological changes at the top," Bandile said. "That's what most Onzaians have grown up accustomed to."

Nevertheless, Ihejirika is hardly a status quo president. His risky decision to embrace and expand the Kojo Doctrine left some with doubts about what sort of failures and mishaps would mire his first few weeks in office. Instead, however, Ihejirika has carefully navigated issues of international significance, while simultaneously not missing a beat when it comes to hitting back as needed. More importantly, he has been a more popular proponent of the Doctrine than its namesake, as a majority of Onzaians now view the Emirates' increased interactions with the world as a sign of the nation getting stronger -- a statistic that has been virtually turned on its head in the last few months.

Aside from putting Onza out more and more on the international stage, Ihejirika's onus also consists of preventing Saraibian terrorism from continuing, sharpening Onza's economy to keep it afloat in a world with a decreasing need for petroleum, and a host of smaller-scale issues that have gone unaddressed by past administrations. To this end, the President adheres to a rigorous schedule every day, awakening around 7:00 each morning and ending most nights around midnight or even later. "Admittedly the lack of sleep is one thing that I did not think to brace for, so it has hit me a bit hard, as I'm sure you can tell when I get out in front of the cameras some mornings," Ihejirika said.

Intelligence advisors report to the Ivory Tower each morning to meet with the President and discuss domestic security, international affairs, and other sensitive issues. Following this, he begins his day with whatever his staff has put on the itinerary. One day, I accompanied him immediately after the briefings to a fairly-tense meeting with leading Liberal Congressmen in Kunta. Another day, the intelligence briefings ended and the President spent the rest of the day in his office phoning a number of different people concerning a variety of issues. By nighttime, he could be anywhere in the Ivory Tower, meeting with just about anyone to map out a course of action related to something that has happened during the day.

When the Wallaisian press published its story about the death of Jean Beaumont, the itinerary for the day was suspended as the Ivory Tower entered a state of controlled chaos, with aides, Ministers, and advisers scrambling to gather information and formulate a response. In the middle of it, Ihejirika and his closest advisers are calm and appear confident that an appropriate solution will be reached, even while expressing regrets at the outcome of the call for extradition -- a sentiment that was challenged by some of his advisors. "You're not thinking of saying that to the public, right?" one aide asked Ihejirika. "Of course I'm going to say it -- murder is murder," the President responded.

"I think a man is nothing without his morals and convictions," Ihejirika told me in the latter stages of my time shadowing him. "If there's one thing I hope to be remembered by, it's that I stuck by mine, no matter what it cost me personally."

An instrumental, but often-forgotten player in the Ivory Tower's day-to-day function is Vice President Rahim Pretorius. Pretorius is opposite to Ihejirika in many ways -- primarily that he is reserved about his opinions -- but alike in being remarkably diplomatic and social, albeit in a much different manner. Pretorius is usually silent in meetings discussing how the administration will address issues, but offered thoughtful, intelligent answers the times that he was asked for an opinion directly.

"Pretorius is like the executive producer of a news broadcast," Deputy Chief of Staff Limbani Afif said. "Just because you don't see him or hear him doesn't mean he's not doing anything. In fact, he's a meticulous planner and instrumental to this administration's success insofar."

Upon my departure, everyone close to the President, despite their busyness, made sure to wish me well. The atmosphere never lost its amiability, even during the sometimes-tense exchanges that would dominate late-night meetings. More importantly, the man at the helm is clear about his focus on principles and virtues, and it resonates with the staff remarkably well.

"To be fair, he's in a fairly simple position," said Asif Hikmat. Hikmat has worked in a variety of advisory positions for three Onzaian presidents. "The nation needs more of a leader right now than it needs a policymaker -- I'm not going to call it easy, but if he recognizes that, I think he'll walk away with all parties fairly satisfied. Even the Onzaian public."

Returning to the scene of the meeting in progress, Ihejirika contemplated the matter for a few moments. He looked to everyone at the table one by one, myself included, and then responded, "It's our best chance of helping those people. We're doing it."

OFFICER PURGE IMMINENT!

Accused Officers face investigation and trial by the Aūktskumāndan
By Andris Jansons, Political Columnist

SEMBA, PRUSEI - Growing concerns over the increasing amount officers reported of holding dissident views have been answered today after an marshall order by Lord Protector (Highest governing official of Prusei) Monte. For context, dissident views are classified as harboring communist, republican, or other treasonous ideals. While under previous Lord Protectors reported officers had been tried and dealt with as they came, Monte's Regime has decreed to put at least a temporary end to effectively illegalizing communist or republican thought within the Wālsteikarris (State Army, governing authority within Prusei). This seems to have changed however, as officials state that over 4,500 reports of officers harboring dissenting views are being investigated by the Ambizi špiōnaži Agentūri (ASA, National Espionage Agency), and then prosecute the officers if damning evidence is found.

While praise has come from many elements of the Wālsteikarris, not all are pleased. Calls from officers, military governors, and even some within the Aūktskumāndan (High Command, the highest organization of the Wālsteikarris, and the governing group that establishes national law) suggested the decree be restored, and some even stated their desires to establish it into Prusein law. A particular call came from General Usis Dimants, Military Governor of the Governate of Slajjalānda, who stated the original decree didn't go far enough, and threatened resignation if the decree wasn't presented to the Aūktskumāndan to establish as law.

The origins of this crisis are both new and older. In 1964 the Lord Protector of the time gave an marshall order to arrest and try any suspected republicans or communists within the Wālsteikarris in response to increasing communist threat as the neighboring ASU grew more involving with it's borders. The marshall order was reinstated by every Lord Protector since, and had only become a proper issue after the ASU's collapse. In the modern day, with the only neighboring communist powers being seen as weaker than Prusei, native Pruseins had become rather upset at the process, as soldiers feared they could lose everything for being falsely accused of holding these ideals.

With an estimated 1,700 reported officers, it will take months in military courts for all the accused to be tried. We will have to see however if Lord Protector Monte and the Aūktskumāndan continue on this course, or if they reverse the marshall order.

Shock NSP Victory in Dnuhozuš By-election
Askejr Zalje, 2018/02/11

The New Syndicalist Party has earned its first seat in the Hujre Chamber following an unexpected victory in the Dnuhozuš by-election. NSP candidate Erik Lacha narrowly defeated Socialist candidate Mskugóg Chuskadvaz after reapportioning, with a 50.5% share of the votes on preference.

The NSP was founded last year in response to discontent felt by many Vrnallians that the government had not been responsive enough to voices which disagreed with the decisions taken by international organisations like the CDN. In response to the growing attention given to the issue by right wing parties, the New Syndicalist Party was formed, modelling itself on the original Syndicalist Party which existed from the period of the Provisional Government during the Great War until it dissolved in 1922.

The NSP remained almost unnoticed, not standing in the few elections which took place since their founding in August. Only last month did leader Adla Mraci stand in the by-election for the Dvrieska parish of Hanjek - the parish to which the current First Minister was elected. To the surprise of many, he placed fourth on first-preference votes, coming ahead of the Progressive and Nationalist candidates. However, Mraci failed to win the seat, which re-elected Socialist Representative Syzana Hljegúv.

In Dnuhozuš a radically different approach was taken. Whereas in Hanjek campaigning had largely been conducted through mail and flyposting, Erik Lacha gathered some early attention when, after campaigning had begun, he could regularly be found talking with dockworkers at the Port of Dnuhozuš. I spoke with one stevedore at that time, Anto Korpi, originally from Crylante, who told me "he doesn't just speak to us like a lot of politicians do, he really seems to listen. And he especially seems to care about us here on the dock, which is nice to see given how much of the local economy depends on us."

Mr. Korpi said that he would vote for Lacha if he were able - but clearly that was unnecessary. We spoke with a teacher from Dnuhozuš who asked not to be named. She told us she was "overjoyed" at the result.

"I didn't vote for the Conservatives last time, I've always voted Socialist. But I think that the Socialists have been really losing touch with people recently, and Erik Lacha seems determined that the NSP will address that. I really hope they succeed. And locally he really wants to put our interests first. I actually picked the Socialists as my second choice, and I'm glad I put the NSP first."

It's clear that the victory was a very narrow one, however, and many people remain skeptical at best of their new Representative. Dijóh Ciema, a worker in a greengrocers who did not vote for the NSP at all, had this to say.

"I don't trust them to a good job. A politician needs to understand what they're doing, and I don't think a new, tiny party like the NSP can. I voted Conservative because I think they've been doing just fine so far, and they understand how the world works."

The party will clearly have to win over such voters if it hopes to achieve other seats, particularly in the federal government, as it has said it wants to. But perhaps the NSP is the new party-to-watch?

Sh. Secretariat of External Affairs calls for a Federation Intervention
Shadow Secretariat of External Affairs, Victora Li, calls for a Societae Intervention in the civil conflicts of Newrey and Aramas in aid of the Republican-Socialist Rebel Forces
Eric de Valerius
11 Feb, 2018 | TRANQUILITY, Democratic Federation

Victoria Li calling for a Societae Intervention

Societae Exceptionalism is an ideology which has seen massive growth with the DF seeing and unleashing much of its military might during both First and Second Great Wars with nearly no other nations during both wars unable to unleash such might other then Rohst and the Aeian Socialist Union.

The ideology called for total Societae Political Hegemony across the world, with the war being a sign of proof of the Federation's worth ability to do so as Aeia's sole Great Power. While the ideology has greatly died out an replaced with a continental variant the calls for the exact same thing only in Vestrim, its seen a massive boost in popularity over the past 20 years, with even some politicians promoting the idea, namely, Victoria Li, with hear recently just repromoting the belief by calling for a Federation intervention in the current chaos that's consuming both the despotic so-called 'republic' known as Aramas and the bigoted and equally horrid regnate currently waging a war against its own citizens in the Asuran former great power Newrey.

Yesterday in the City of Tranquility, the Federation, after hearing the news of the Commonwealth of Democratic Nations - often abbreviated as the CDN - denying both Republican Aramasian Rebels and both factions in Newrey aid in their wars, Li was in outrage and was quick to speak out about her disgust and disappointment of the Commonwealth, continuing to later call for the leaders of the Democratic Federation to complete and fulfill the promises the CDN has seemingly refused to keep - the promotion of a truly free world and the spreading of democracy and enmansipation of the people worldwide, claiming it be the Federation right as the 'rightful leader of the free, democratic and liberal world'

In her speech, she proclaimed this:
The Federation, for the most part, has been denying itself of what it could, or more accurately, what it should be; the lone Great Power and Hegemon of Aeian Politics. The Federation has seen its zenith during the Great Wars, its military strength which nearly no other nation known could rival, and after seeing this greatness, we resorted to limiting ourselves to exercising our influence in Vestrim and Vestrim alone, allowing the regimes in nations like Aramas, Sarabia, Torroso, the APR and the satanic ASU and its de facto successor Veleaz to exist and allowing these nations, among others, to spread their despotic oppressive ways to the other nations of Aeia, corrupting each, one by one, until we live in a world devoid of the people's will to speak out and act against their masters.

The so-called 'democratic' nations of Midrasia, Aquidneck, and even our so-called ally Carcosscia, along with their incompetent and untrustworthy commonwealth, has done nothing more than cater to these despot regimes and have taken no action to end them when they were given the chance, and not only have they done that, but now they're deny the people, the freedom fighters in Aramas and Newrey, aid to liberate themselves from the governments that are killing them and treating them like nothing more then slaves and expendable human resources. This Commonwealth has failed the Free, Democratic and Liberal world, and they will continue to fail it. And to that I say, NO MORE!

The Federation, as the true, sole bearer of the mantle of the Leader of the Free, Democratic and Liberal world, must fulfill its destiny as it. The federation must defend the people fighting the oppressive governments that try to censor and destroy their voices. To my fellow Societae brothers and sisters, wake up and help us to reach this destiny!

Li's speech was met with backlash with members of government and support from the nation's far-right groups and political factions. Most high ranking government officials, such as Consul Cunégonde, haven't voiced out their opinion on the matter and most likely will not. The most recent polls concerning Societae Intervention in Aramas' Civil War was reportedly 31.5%, and has been said to be growing in its number of supporters. With much of the Societae populace and more calling for a Greater Societae, what does this mean for the Federation? Does it obey the call of the people or shun it and go against it's values?

Only time will tell, more as the story develops

PORTAS SLAMS 'RECKLESS' INTERVENTION PLAN
Consul suggests Federation plan would be 'detrimental' to wider peace process, calls for Victora Li to cooperate with CDN

Image
Portas gave an interview earlier today where suggested the Federation should
'cooperate' rather than 'gatecrash' to resolve ongoing conflicts
LOTRIČ - Consul Melcion Portas has denounced a call by the shadow Secretariat of External Affairs for the Democratic Federation for the Vestrim nation to intervene in the ongoing conflicts in Aramas and Newrey. Mr Portas called the plan "reckless" and "akin to gatecrashing" suggesting that by doing so all current ongoing efforts to deal with the conflicts would be in jeopardy.

Speaking on the matter earlier today, the Consul stated: "We are currently doing all we can to bring a swift and acceptable end to the ongoing conflicts. Yes, I will not deny that progress is slow, but in many cases negotiations and efforts such as these take time. Whilst some would like us to go in 'guns blazing' we have to understand that this is not a sustainable long term solution both in terms of politics and cost. The CDN cannot intervene in every country just because it feels like it. We have to accept national sovereignty and build about peaceful working relations. Furthermore, such a conflict would only bring more death and destruction, throwing away countless lives in the process." Mr Portas also suggested that the "jingoistic rhetoric" used by the Shadow Secretariat was "akin to Nineteenth Century Great War propaganda" and has "no place in modern diplomatic discourse." Nevertheless, Mr Portas did point out that he was grateful as to how the current Federation government had conducted itself towards the CDN and current conflicts. "We must not forget," the Consul stated. "These comments were not made by an official member of the Federation's government. They do not represent their official policy and thus should not be blown out of proportion."

We also reached out to other representatives of the Commonwealth on the matter. A senior member of the Aquidish Ministry of Foreign Affairs had this to say: "Asuran problems will be dealt with by Asurans, not former colonies of Asurans, who so desperately seek the attention and approval of the Asurans." Strong words from the Aquidish, however many have suggested that such a firm stance towards the Federation could have the unintended side effect of alienating the Vestrim nation from what many see as its natural allies. Nevertheless Consul Portas also had this to add: "We are not stating we in no way wish to work with the Federation. Far from it. However, if the Democratic Federation wishes to aid us in this conflict then they should respect our areas of influence and pre-existing channels for dealing with issues."

Towards the end of the press conference, Mr Portas stated that the government was currently doing all it can to deal with the ongoing conflicts, however information will not be released to the public until it is deemed safe to do so. "Expect to see some information released over the coming weeks," promised the Consul.

We will have more on this story as it develops.

Vannerr; We begin this week on Friday Evening, when an altercation between a Carcossican Tourist and a Vannerr citizen devolved into violence before authorities separated the parties involved. From eye-witness reports collected as police testimony the Carcossican Kaevha, a Priest of the Ksaii faith, was travelling in the Gauricht Communal-District of the city where he and fellow tourists were confronted by a group of Ovan youth.

According to Testimony Gabriele Cho, an Ovan woman of 23, demanded that the Kaevha, an Uan-Luc Rubady, remove his Zhaeksain. The Zhaeksain, a Ksaiist cloth belt with a flap hanging over the right thigh bearing woven religious insignias, was deemed offensive by Cho who cited Ovandera as being "A place free of Theocratic Influences".

Rubady, being slow to answer at first, attempted to explain the personal importance of the Offending Article, which further angered Cho and prompted her to continue onward, insulting the man and his entourage of two Students. At this point one of Gabriele's comrades, Erik Osaan, joined in in asking the man to remove the Zhaeksain causing a passerby to tell the group of Ovan to "Act their damn age".

Tensions between the group reached their hight as Cho began to move into Rubady, who raise his hands to push her away, causing Cho to attack the man before some of her friends held her back and the police forced her away. Afterwards, police involvement led to the Carcossican students, Marina Gnacane and Vitto Albay, to be sent to the Carcossican International Embassy in Vanner, with Rubady spending the night in a local jail under the watch of a Carcossican Consul. Gabriele Cho would be held in jail overnight as well, with Erik Osaan and two others being spared arrest with an on-sight warning. Cho was sent to the District Court, being fined 1,000 Marks and charged with minor assault and a jail-time of 5 days. As per-direction, Rubady was held in front of an Ovan Foreign-Court and was given a public Attorney, alongside a testimony by Vitto Albay, and was found not-guilty of Assault, but fined 250 Marks for the Promotion of Religious Material.

The reason this is such noteworthy news, however, is the nature of the court case. A public attorney claimed that while illegal, Cho's actions could be justified as Rubady was publicly promoting theocratic principle. This has, of course, sparked larger talks across the Commonwealth regarding the nature Religious apparel in public area's, with numerous Party Members defending and disparaging both Cho and Rubady. The issue has finally led to numerous groups attempting to address the growing rise of anti-theism in Ovandera, especially amongst her youth, and only time will tell which direction this goes.

End Poverty of Isolated Communities Act passes National Assembly

The bill won a surprising amount of support in the National Assembly and will now be considered by the Senate.
By Imam Eskender, Staff Writer

Image
KUNTA, ONZA - The bipartisan bill that aims to address the barren conditions of the handful of isolated communities out in the deserts of Onza, now dubbed the End Poverty of Isolated Communities Act, passed the National Assembly 212-88 moments ago.

"This is certainly a historic moment for this legislature," said Assemblyman Mahmood Yamikani -- one of the initial sponsors of the bill. "We will finally be giving aid to these people in need rather than ignoring them as our predecessors have sadly done." Yamikani campaigned heavily with fellow Liberal Assemblyman to gather an impressive amount of support in spite of many within the party's initial hesitancy due to the price tag the bill would come along with.

"Let this go down in history as proof of what can be accomplished when party lines are forgotten in favor of working towards a common, benevolent goal," said the bill's other initial sponsor, Rayyan Zulfikar.

The bill underwent a lengthy debate period throughout the day after it was suddenly moved out of subcommittee earlier this week and out of committee last night. Opponents criticized the bill as being too direct and as undermining the establishment of social welfare programs. Nevertheless, many who were initially hesitant to vote in favor of the bill solidified their support at various points throughout the day.

The topic of Onza's isolated communities and their conditions has been a hot-button one since the conditions said communities are living under were first brought to light in the 1970s. The subject has been notoriously taboo, especially among Onzaian Presidents, who up until Mirza Arendse, would not acknowledge the citizenship of these individuals.

"It's always been a tough topic to tackle, and to see it so resoundingly approved as it makes its way through Congress I think is indicative of how ready everyone is to get this off their conscience and onto their list of accomplishments," OCNA political analyst Rutendo Ganizani said. "I'll be interested to see how the Senate handles the legislation, since your more conservative spenders hold a great deal of power there."

The bill commits to making a number of infrastructural and foundational improvements to the impoverished villages, while also setting up bank accounts for the citizens in these communities so that they can receive welfare checks. "The hope is that this stimulus for the regions will facilitate growth. Some of these have potential to become small population hubs, akin to other rural communities around the nation that are far better off," Yamikani said while speaking on the bill during the debate period. "Progress may be somewhat slow, but at least we're starting it now rather than not at all."

"Oversight is going to be a major factor here, as usual," Yamikani assured fellow Assemblymen. "With there being just 3,000 individuals we are looking to help here, it will be very feasible and practical for us to keep track of what's going where and ensuring that everything is going according to plan."
