Emergency Update
Image

*Emergency Update flashes on screen, before fading away to reveal Susan Nesbitt and Arthur Conway sitting at the anchors chair*

"Hello, and thank you for joining us. I'm Susan Nesbitt, and this is Arthur Conway. The regular programming has been temporarily interrupted to bring you a emergency matter. Bombs are suspected to have erupted at the Cyningburgh International Airport only a few minutes ago. Images of the after math, one of which is is on screen now, have quickly surfaced on the internet."

AC: "It is not currently known about how the bombs went off, nor the number of casualties reported, however it is suspected that around 15 to 20 people have been killed in the initial blast. Emergency services are yet to arrive at the scene. For your safety, it is advised those in the Cyningburgh International area refrain from travelling back and instead travel to the Old Town, where the International Fyrdmen's Sunday Tattoo has begun, with the display team of the Vaellenian Rifles, from Midrasia, have been granted the honour of Opening the Tattoo.

More on the story as it develops"

*UPDATE 2*

"Good Evening, NNC is live bringing you an update with Aethlstan Wolfe, live at the scene. Aethl, what's the situation down there?"

*Scene cuts to a ginger haired reporter standing in front of a building with shattered windows, as sirens fill the night and flashing blues lights can be seen*

"Well, Susan, it's rather hectic. No one is quite sure what it is exactly what's going on or how the explosion started. Some are saying that it was a gas pipe explosion, others are suggesting it's an attack similar to that that occured in Tarasanovia a few months ago, except not committed by 'Southerners'."

SN: "Well, have the Emergency Services issued a warning?"

AW: "They are echoing the warning you gave earlier, advising people from the Cyningburgh International area to either not return home or leave home to somewhere safer, such as the Old Town."

SN: "Ah, well, we'll be sure to keep a close eye on the situation at Cyningburgh International, but now onto the Fyrdmen's Sunday celebrations. From the Tattoo, we can see the unique blue uniform of the [i]Kingly Regiment
No. 1 stepping onto the parade square. Since 1900, the Kingly Regiment has been the only regiment allowed to march to the Tune of the King, due to the attachment to the Monarchy. Why, I'm certain that that is Prince Alfred in the para- *gunshots and camera cut out, cutting back to the anchors looking around with a confused look on their face*

AC: "Uhh...I'm not too sure what that was...We'll...uhh...we'll be back in a moment when the signal can be brought back up"

*UPDATE 3*

In a horrible turn of events, the gunshots that caused the NNC coverage of the Fyrdmens' Sunday Intermational Tattoo were not fired as part of the display, but rather to kill. From survivor testimonies, it is assumed that the armed men burst into the Parade Ground and began firing into the ground. Due to the weapons of the soldiers present were unloaded to prevent fire, it is thought the gunmam/gunmen was able to let off a a decent amount of gunfire before making an escape. Their current whereabouts are unknown. The Government has ordered all persons off the streets and too return to their homes. Stay safe.

*UPDATE 4*

More news coming in from the attacks going down in Cyningburgh. It is reported that at least two cafés, filled with civilians from the Cyningburgh International Area, have been fired upon or had explosives hurled into. This brings the total amount of suspected gunmen up to 5. In response to the threat, the Landmight has been brought into Cyninburgh to hunt down and destroy the gunmen. The Government has once again issued and order, ordering members of the public and visiting citizens to seek refuge. Any Newreyans are expected to open their homes to unarmed foreigners to provide them with safe housing until the gunmen are dealt with.
[hr[/hr]
*UPDATE 5*
In a horrifying turn of events, the gunmen have abandoned the streets and have, reportedly, seized control of the Aqudish Embassy, located in Brigeston. It is suspected that the gunmen made their way to the Embassy easily, due to the abandoned streets and quickly overwhelmed the guards. A police blockade has been set up around the embassy, effectively cutting the gunmen and hostages off from the outside world. Emergency services have established road blocka and the Landmight Medical Branch has been mobilised to help the Health Service ceal with the killed and injured. Official estimates place the casulaty rate at over 100 people, making it the deadliest non-wartime attack in over 100 years. More as the story develops.

President van der Veld Condemns
the Terror Attacks in Newrey

The Government pledges to support Newrey and condemns terrorist attack

In a live televised press conference this afternoon President van der Veld has publicly condemned the unprovoked terror attacks which took place in Newrey, here is an excerpt from the transcripts of his speech: "Terrorism is the weapon of the uncivilised, the barbarian, and the fanatic. The actions of a few deluded individuals can spoil life and society for the rest of their people, and only animals would lower themselves to such a level as this. The merciless slaughter of innocent civilians cannot be justified, nor can the seizure of diplomatically held soil - this world is in an age of progress in which reason, honour, and good conduct are not merely high ideals but the sort of thing which should go without saying. It saddens me to think that any man could stoop to taking hostages within an embassy, a place of peace and diplomacy, through which disagreements are handled in a civil and polite manner and this only proves the degree of barbarity that still exists in some corners of the world."

"I am stating here and now that this government will not accept, will not tolerate terrorism in any form for any cause. We stand in solidarity with the people of Newrey today as they mourn for their losses and take stock of what has happened; we grieve with them and we offer our heartfelt sympathies. But against barbarism solidarity and sympathy can do little, these monstrous actions must be met with an equally righteous determination and response, which demonstrates the power, skill, and precision of a modern and progressive nation; to this effect I have forwarded a communique to both the King and Prime Minister of Newrey offering our full support and assistance, including that of our elite counter terrorist unit KvSD 6 which has proven its ability time and again within Kavo."

"Kavo will combat terrorism at every turn, we shall not abide their presence within our borders, we shall not suffer the presence of their supporters, nor shall we allow trade with them. Any organisation found to have associations with terrorist organisations will have their behaviour corrected in the most strenuous manner possible. It is time for Kavo to move forward and make its stance clear; where once we fought the forces of communism now let us dedicate ourselves to the eradication of Global Terrorism in whatever form it takes."

This speech is the first official acknowledgement of the existence of KvSD 6 in its history, though it has been widely known to have existed since their first public operations in 1974, during the Third Brush War, when they were deployed to combat urban terrorism. The unit is believed to have been deployed in multiple operations within Kavo since 1974, however as the government has up to now refused to confirm or deny their existence it is impossible to say how many, and is one of the most active and experienced counter-terror and special forces forces in the world. That the President is offering to deploy the unit overseas to assist a foreign power shows an unprecedented level of faith and support in this trying time.

Government narrowly beats no confidence vote

It has been a tough couple of days for Prime Minister David Corbett and his cabinet as they deal with one crisis after the next. The takeover of an Aquidish embassy in Newrey was the last straw as progressive back benchers and a group of rebel Royalist back benchers initiated a vote of no confidence in the government. It was only the surprise support of the Liberal party that saved the government from being defeated and elections from being held.

The government is facing criticism that it has failed in steering the nation through these troubles. Progressive senators cite the failure to capture the assassins who killed Lord Justice Patrick Wood in the middle of the Torden, the failure to secure the release of over 300 Aquidish citizens being detained in Tarasanovia, the failure of the Torden peace conference, and the takeover of the Aquidish embassy in Newrey. Progressive senators and a group of about 30 Royalists voted against the government in the no confidence motion. The debate lasted nine hours and resulted in several senators having their speaking privileges removed for the day by the Speaker.

In a move that stunned Progressive Senators and the Royalist rebels the Liberal party supported the government and destroyed the plans of the opposition who did not have enough votes to overcome them. Liberal party leader Senator Edward Moran said that "It is not the time for a change in leadership. The nation is dealing with a lot of complex foreign affairs issues and we need stability in leadership. The Liberal Party is supportive of the government's foreign policy thus far and will continue to support it for as long as we agree." So political analysts believe that the Liberal Party is positioning itself to beat the Progressive Party in the next general election.

Though the government did beat the no confidence motion it did not survive unscathed. A few cabinet ministers resigned their posts in support of the back bench rebels. The Minister of Trade and Business Patrick Kerr is out and so is the Minister of Justice John Marin. Prime Minister Corbett has said the positions will be filled shortly and that he is focused on leading the nation through these tough times by working with our AIP partners to secure a safer Aeia for everyone. He also said that Royalist Senators who voted against him should work with him to fix these problems rather than try to undermine the process.

Jokil Blames Rennekka for Terrorist Attack in Newrey

President of Tarasanovia Sebastian Jokil has blamed southern countries for the attacks in Newrey claiming that the countries, "Can't help themselves," and are, "generally bad people." The attacks happened at Cyningburgh International Airport not very long ago and those in Newrey are told to the leave the city.

The attacks in Newrey happened very recently and in a quick succession. Numerous bombs were planted at the International Airport and exploded, leaving 15 to 20 people dead directly from the blast. Emergency vehicles spread and came back to the area where many people were rushed out of the location. Afterwards at the Frydman's Sunday celebrations the gunmen responsible for the bomb broke into the area and started firing at the grounds, leaving many injured and dead. More madness ensued as two cafes' were attacked within the area. The 5 gunmen then broke into the Aquidish Embassy and took hostages. Police surrounded the area and are awaiting the next update. Many roads are being opened and more emergency services are arriving.

Sebastian Jokil took to say somethings about the event, especially considering the wake of similar happenings within the most southern Aarbekh country. "This is devastating, of course. There is no denying that." His words were smooth and without stutter. "And things like these definitely need to stop, it's disgusting. How do we get it to stop? Get rid of those Rennekkans. Rennekkans are responsible for most of these things and I can almost guarantee that they are responsible for this. We can work together to stop the world from these things." It is unlikely Tarasanovia are going to make more action towards these words for now. Remember that if you're in Newrey to stay safe and help those around. Stay safe, Aeia.

AQUIDNECK EMBASSY CRISIS!
David Risikko

As the fog clears on the city of Cyningburgh, the aftermath of the Fyrdmens' Sunday Attacks can be clear to seen. Pools of dried blood can be found littering the Parade Square and the snaking streets of Old Town, with shattered glass and dispensed ammunition casings giving the busy streets a haunting reminder of what happened once the gunmen had fled the streets. With an official total of 19 people killed in the Cyningburgh International Bombing and a further 130 deaths as the gunmen rampaged through Old Town and destroyed two cafes, the attacks have become the largest loss of life in a non-wartime attack in over a hundred years, with the Kiplings' Massarce in 1902 holding the top spot with over 200 deaths. Among the 202 injured was Prince Alfred, who was shot and injured during the Kingly Regiments' parade display and the first shots of the attacks being captured on live television and broadcast on NNC.

In response to the atatcks, the Prime Minister has placed the city of Cyningburgh into lockdown, with traffic and ships being throuogly searched before leaving the city limits, airports being closed across the city and with heavily armed police and soliders, pictured, being a common sight on the historic streets of the city. The government has also hinted at the possibility of the Police ability to detain anyone on the spot for up to 65 hours may make brief return as the Witenagemot works to maintain the fragile air of peace that has settled over the city, only occasionally interrupted by the sounds of sirens as ambulances rush survivors to hospital or as the police clear the roads.
Image
Soldiers patrolling the St. Dantrix's Church

For many, the nightmare is over, with the survivors searching through the hospitals or List of Deceased to see if their loved ones had survived. However, for the unlucky few, the nightmare continues. The Aquidneck Embassy, often nicknamed the Bland Block due to the lack of interesting detail, has been taken hostage by the gunmen. While this is a horrfying scenario for thos involved, it has allowed us to figure out the men who carried out these atrocious attacks. Clearly of a darker skin and a less than civil language, it was originally the attackers came from Tarasanovia or Hipasia, however the raising of the Saraibian flag and accent of the hostage takers has given away their true nationality. The government of Saraibia, if it can be called that, is known for actively supporting these groups while also denying any involvement of any kind making it clear that this attack had government oversight and help.

Currently, the National Police of Cyningburgh (NPC) have adopted a diplomatic approach to forcing the hostages out of the Embassy by cordoning the area off and filling the surrounding streets up with armed police and placing Police Marksmen around the surrounding buildings, with their scopes aimed everywhere. Officially, it is believed that 25 diplomats and staff have been taken prisoner, with five gunmen. With the Embassy Crisis being live broadcast on every channel, fears have risen that the gunmen will use the numerous television sets to watch the moves of the Police. In an effort to reduce this risk, power has been turned off in the City Block that hosts the Aquidneck Embassy, as well as access to the internet, after negotiations with the National Internet Broadcaster.

Currently, the situation remains tense but calm, with no gunshots on either being fired and the hope that the hostage takers will lose heart and simply surrender being a popular belief among the citizenry of Newrey, if odd and violently optimistic of the typical Newreyan, however the NPC have stated that they are willing to hand control of the situation to the Landmight should the situation spiral out of control, which would do well to scare the hostages takers if they were aware of this. More on the story as it develops.

Council Releases Statement on Newrey Hostage Situation
Miedzi Sosa, 2016/26/10

The Council has made a public statement concerning the hostage situation in the Aquidneck embassy in Cyningburgh, Newrey, in which it condemns the group responsible, which is believed to be of Saraibian origin, and voices support for the Newreyan police in their attempts to secure a diplomatic resolution to the ordeal. Speaking on Good Morning, Vrnallia today the First Minister told viewers that "we must not tolerate this intolerance as it attacks our neighbours and friends".

"The people responsible for atrocities such as these must be showed that their goals and methods are anathema to our way of living. If, knowing this, they continue such despicable actions, it is only right that they meet with force in kind. We must not tolerate this intolerance as it attacks our neighbours and friends, as it undermines our way of living."

Readers may be concerned by the First Minister's militant tone, but he clarified his position speaking to our reporter later: "each country will respond to this in its own way, some more violently than others. While we will continue to uphold peace whenever we can, we will not come between a state's right to deal with terrorists in accordance with its own laws."

The government has not commented yet on the groups connections to Saraibia, awaiting further investigation by Newreyan authorities. The SFVPF have been deployed to Dvrieska International Airport to inspect planes coming from Newrey.

ArKav is mobilised against SUSa after violence ramps up

President van der Veld has ordered the mobilisation of ArKav after violence in Lanchester and the northern provinces increased over the past week. The northern metropolis of Lanchester, which is Kavo's largest city erupted into violence after a series of protests devolved into riots and looting, which prompted the government to deploy additional police units and the BVL to the city to suppress the protests and bring an end to the violence. After initial successes however a series of bombings and shootings throughout the city quickly spiralled the situation out of control and the Metropolitan Police Chief and Lieutenant-Colonel in charge of the BVL units deployed within Lanchester made a formal request for military support. At approximately 17:00 yesterday evening the government responded by mobilising two divisions from ArKav to the city under the command of Colonel Jonas de Wet, a move which seems to have prompted SUSa to escalate the situation further.

At 11:00 this morning the President interrupted regular broadcasting on all television and radio channels to announce that rebel fighters had crossed the northern border of Kavo out of the failed state of Aramatheria, and that the entire Kavoene military had been mobilised in response. The compliment of ArKav troops sent north to Lanchester has thus been increased with the task force under Colonel de Wet's command now numbering almost twenty thousand, with the aircraft carriers KVS Junkers and KVS Nassau both being deployed off the northern coast to support ArKav operations there. As yet the government has not released details on how many rebel soldiers have crossed the border, or how many SUSa rebels remain in cells throughout the country, but has called a meeting with the leaders of the country's various independent militias loyal to the Port Arthur government in an effort to coordinate actions throughout the nation.

So far ArKav forces have engaged rioters in Lanchester and have executed a sweep, destroy, and advance operation with the aim of interning those participating in the violence; once the reinforcements arrive though the task force will move northwards to engage the SUSa forces which are crossing the border and will then move on to occupy the territory north in Aramatheria.

BREAKING NEWS UPDATE

Photograph of the ambulance attempting to revive
the President before being taken to an emergency care
facility at 09:12 AM, 21OCT16.

News >> International | Posted: 27 October 2016 12:31 PM | Last Updated: 27 October 2016 07:18 PM
At 09:12 AM, as President Toft and seven members of her staff were leaving the Glenish Central Bank headquarters in Norfell, an assassination attempt was made by three, originally unidentified gunmen from a roof overlooking the courtyard just outside the headquarter's building. Following this initial attempt which resulted in the deaths of two members of the President's security detail (Jacob Frandsen and Jeppe Villadsen) and wounding of one member of the President's staff (Chief of Staff Mikkel Schmidt), the group was rushed to the President's motorcade. Upon clearing the fences surrounding the courtyard, a secondary assassination attempt was made by two additional gunmen who, before being intercepted by the President's security detail, managed to wound both the President and Treasury Secretary Clausen. The two secondary gunmen were quickly identified as Jens T. Jensen (executed by police at the scene of the attempt) and Alexander J. Skov (tackled to the ground and currently in questioning).

Within five minutes, Vice President Lassen was rushed off stage in the midst of a speech regarding education reform in the capital. This immediately prompted a uproar within the media as attempts to confirm the attempt by major news networks were made. At 09:30 AM, the President's Press Secretary made the first public acknowledgement of the attempt and at the time, no further information was offered regarding the condition of any of the wounded members of the President, her staff, or the Steward. Nor was any information offered regarding the apprehension of the gunmen who fired into the courtyard.

Since our last update on the situation, we have received confirmation that the President's condition has stabilized and doctors claim she will recover but is currently being kept under anesthesia. It was also announced by doctors just minutes ago that the Steward of Glanodel is also stable, though doctors are not commenting on the state of her recovery. Additionally, the three missing gunmen have been identified as Michael N. Bertelsen, Philip B. Madsen, and Adam M. Jepsen. Currently, all air traffic around Norfell has been halted and checkpoints at all major highways leading in and out of the area have been established as part of the manhunt for these assassins.

Preliminary investigations conducted by both National Intelligence Service and National Security Service have led authorities to believe that the gunmen were part of a large terrorist organization known as the Holy Tide, most notable for their public and violent opposition to "Azurian values" and the effects of free trade agreements pioneered by the Glenish government, as well as religious motivations.

As of yet, the organization has not made an official statement and has yet to claim responsibility for the assassination attempt.

Please keep your eyes on us for further updates on the developing situation.

I'd really like to go turn this incident into an international matter involving combined efforts among a coalition of nations to fight against a radical religious group. Anyone else is also more than welcome to involve other assassination attempts conducted around the same time.

The Battle of Lanchester ends in ArKav victory

ArKav forces in the outskirts of Lanchester
The Battle of Lanchester has been declared over this morning after intense fighting rocked the city. Colonel de Wet has stated that while front line operations have been concluded in the city they are still in the process of clearing and consolidating their grip so that the displaced civilian population can safely return to their homes. According to the press reports issued by the military the enemy forces engaged in Lanchester were members of three minor militia units linked to SUSa, which though determined were relatively ill equipped and untrained, additionally it is believed that these forces were not a part of SUSa itself, but rather took advantage of the escalating violence to act against the government.

Our Military Correspondent Imke Loots writes from the aftermath:
"In the early hours of yesterday morning ArKav forces commenced the final act of the Battle of Lanchester when a column of armour vehicles supported by helicopters stormed the last rebel held district of the city, the De La Rey Residential District. Bright flashes lit up the predawn gloom as the gunships engaged rebel held positions on the rooftops of the district's tenement buildings and these was followed by around six hours of intense noise - periodic crashes as artillery and heavy weapons were brought to bear breaking the regular rhythm of automatic gunfire. From the balcony of my hotel room I watched as the KWL helicopters flew overhead to strike with precision against positions within the district itself, dropping troops onto rooftops and into key crossings, and bombarding the fortified rebel strongholds."

"One hour into the operation there was a knock at the door, Lieutenant Marick van Heersden of the 3rd Armoured Grenadiers had come to escort me into the warzone so that I could report the events first hand. This was the moment I had been both deeply excited for and dreading. With an infantry section of twelve men and women, the Lieutenant included, I was taken down into the street outside where we mounted up on the section's armoured transport. I was somewhat relieved to see that we would be riding in the more heavily armoured and better armed Scorpion Personnel Carrier and as I climbed aboard I noted that as an added bonus the vehicle featured various viewing devices to allow me to witness the events around us without needing to leave the confinement of the transport compartment. As the vehicle roared into life and started with a jerk I felt incredibly honoured to be entering the field of battle alongside an infantry section from the 3rd AP, though I must say this feeling was tempered by the Scorpion driver's liberal approach to sensible driving."

"Even from within the armoured confines of the Scorpion I could clearly hear that we were entering the combat zone proper; one of the Lieutenant's troopers, Marta Neiewhus, helped me into my armoured vest and helmet as we rumbled further and further into the fighting. Occasionally I would hear the faint metallic pattering as small arms fire bounced off the hull, but at all times I felt utterly safe within the armoured vehicle. Upon reaching what was deemed a relatively safe location within the De La Rey district the compartment door was opened and the infantry section debused to secure the area; I must say I was impressed and comforted by the degree of professionalism and efficiency with which they acted, and when I was called upon to step from the vehicle I did so without trepidation."

"The scene around me as I stepped from the Scorpion was one of passing devastation; smoke rose from holes in the sides of a number of the buildings nearby and the holes left from automatic gunfire pockmarked almost every nearby wall. Chunks of rubble and other urban debris formed piles here and there and there was an everpresent layer of broken crush and dust underfoot as a tentatively moved around. Van Heersden had brought me to what had once been a busy crossroads, though now it was quiet and home only to ourselves; the Lieutenant told me that a defensive perimeter had been formed around this position in the early stages of the operation and pointed out the portable barricades which had been deployed across the main roads to the north and east."

"As the section fanned out I was allowed to walk about the location and as I did so more details of the damage the conflict had left became clear; periodically I encountered puddles of bullet casings, some saturated with drying blood, and very occasionally an untended body lay nearby. All of the corpses I encountered appeared to be rebel fighters who, even in death looked fierce; their faces painted with urban camo-paint, bandoleers and belts of ammunition festooning their corpses. To a man they looked ragged and lethal, their weapons old but iconic and no two the same for they had decorated them in the old Shuhuntu warrior tradition; most had been armed with old rifles which would not have looked out of place seventy years ago, but a few had more modern assault rifles or machine pistols."

"When I returned to the section at the Scorpion I asked if any casualties had been sustained on our side. A grave Lieutenant van Heersden informed me that they had suffered around sixty casualties so far, but that it was standard policy to immediately extract the wounded and dead; I would find no corpses of our brave soldiers it seemed, though I was far from disappointed to hear this. Corporal Naude informed me that ArKav snipers had positioned themselves in the tenement on the south eastern corner of the crossroads at the beginning of the push into this particular area and most of the corpses I could see were their handiwork."

Fort Nijmegen captured by rebel forces

Image
SUSa forces near Fort Nijmegen.
In this afternoon's War Address in Port Arthur the government spokesman, Roos Jonker, confirmed reports that the northern border town of Fort Nijmegen had been captured by SUSa forces. The town had been designated as Under Threat upon the outbreak of this latest round of hostilities and many of the citizens had been evacuated, however the local pro-Kavoene militia locally referred to as the Wittiere decided to make a stand and try to defend their homes. After two days of intense fighting however the Wittiere has now been overrun with the remaining units retreating south towards ArKav positions at the Stier Ridge. According to the press statement Wittiere leader Oliver Gray was killed in combat and the militia suffered 253 casualties and 12 captured out of a total strength of 422. The present status of the captured militiamen is unknown, and attempts to contact SUSa leadership in the area to arrange for their release have been unsuccessful.

Northern Task Force commander Colonel Jonas de Wet has stated that Fort Nijmegen was 'not a major strategic position' and went on to say that while plans were being drawn up to retake the town it had not been possible to support the Wittiere at the time due to 'the overall tactical situation.' Many are now criticising Colonel de Wet's decision and its results with Opposition Leader Graham Heyns describing them as: "A callous and cowardly attitude which has left a community in ruins, the Colonel now has the blood of two hundred and fifty three brave men and women on his hand." The government has however stated its continued support for Colonel de Wet and has officially stated that they accept the reasoning behind his decision.

Roos Jonker had the following the say on the situation:
"The fall of Fort Nijmegen is not a result of any decision on Colonel de Wet's part; such losses are inevitable in war and in the wider context of the campaign the Colonel made the right decision. It simply is not possible to defend every last inch of Kavo and to try to do so would serve only to ensure our own downfall; good tactical sense dictates that one should choose their battles and while Fort Nijmegen's fate is most unfortunate and deeply saddening it is an acceptable loss when one considers that it allowed ArKav forces to retake Lanchester and hold the line elsewhere, thus defending major cities such as Salisbury and Haag."

SUSa Forces Sweep Into Sunny Croft, Siege

ArKav breaks SUSa vanguard north of Lanchester

The Northern Task Force under Colonel de Wet has reportedly engaged and defeated a large SUSa vanguard force at the Battle of Hijn's Ford, approximately ten miles north of Lanchester.

According to the After Action Report, a censored version of which was published this morning, Colonel de Wet led the 5th Armoured Grenadiers and elements of the 2nd Dragoons (a tank Battalion) north to meet a large force of rebels who had been picked up on early warning and reconnaissance systems shortly after Lanchester was secured. According to the report some 2500 SUSa fighters were attacked in the flank as they moved to assault Sledwick, while the Colonel had a force of just 912 troops mounted in Skerpioen AFVs and [Krygsman TAVs, and supported by the Dragoons in their Uitdager IIs. The two forces met at the site of a fallen Colonial Era bridge known as Hijn's Ford and engaged in a four hour long battle with the creek bed and bridge forming the central axis of the battlefield.

The SUSa forces were found to be equipped largely with AK rifles of varying types, and had several out dated light tanks and armoured vehicles. Upon the beginning of the engagement ArKav forces rapidly advanced and assumed positions of cover within the creek bed while their armour elements manoeuvred into an optimal firing position; with the Uitdager tanks capable of firing accurately at much greater ranges than the SUSa vehicles the Dragoons were able to establish a base line and fire from positions to the rear while the infantry and their support vehicles advanced to engage the rebel soldiers directly. De Wet's forces were thus able to hold the creek bed for the majority of the engagement while SUSa infantry attempted to storm their positions.

Despite the victory, with the destruction of all of the enemy light tanks and approximately 70% of their support vehicles, Colonel de Wet highlighted a number of concerning issues that this latest battle has brought to light. First among these issues is the fact that SUSa were able to field tanks to begin with; though the models were ageing and ultimately inferior to those employed by ArKav their presence indicates an external backer which has been supplying SUSa rebels and training their crews for some time. Another issue highlighted in the AAR were SUSa's numbers and their willingness to engage ArKav forces directly, rather than to retreat as has been the strategy of rebel forces int he past; this implies that the rebel forces are highly motivated and have an abundance of manpower upon which to draw in order to form these organised military units. Thirdly the structure and organisation of the SUSa force implies that a strong logistical, command, and strategic organisation is in place with formalised ranks and a disciplined military structure - totally at odds with SUSa's previous incarnation which again implies external assistance in training and advice. This has led the military and intelligence to suspect that there are foreign advisors assisting SUSa forces.

SUSa forces overrun Sunny Croft and lay siege to Haag

In a fresh embarrassment for the government SUSa rebels have captured another town in the northern regions of Kavo; Sunny Croft, which was a thriving farming community with numerous outlying plantations, has been overrun after an eight hour running battle with the local loyalist militias. Unlike Fort Nijmegen however the militia were able to retreat south to bolster ArKav forces defending the nearby city of Haag. The force which initially struck Sunny Croft was a small one of no more than three hundred rebel soldiers, however by noon rebel numbers had been swollen by reinforcements to around five thousand as the main force poured south. After consolidating their position in Sunny Croft SUSa troops regrouped and moved further south in order to strike at the city of Haag, but by the time they arrived ArKav, forewarned by the militias, had established a defensive cordon.

To further compound the embarrassment over the loss of Sunny Croft the ArKav force holding Haag numbers only one battalion of eight hundred men and two hundred or so militiamen. Though well equipped the ArKav forces present were not sufficient to immediately break the siege and defeat the SUSa forces assailing them, and have thus been forced to hold position while SUSa surrounds their positions; ArKav estimates that it could be as long as four days before a force of sufficient size can be sent to assist stating that an 'overwhelming' force would be necessary as SUSa will no doubt begin throwing further reinforcements into the attack.

In the meantime the defenders and citizens of Haag must endure sniper fire and shelling from the outskirts of the city, as well as continuous raids by rebel soldiers testing their defences.

DIPLOMAT KILLED! MYSTERIOUS ARMED MEN RESCUE HOSTAGES!
David Risikko

The tense and calm silence that has been hanging heavy over most of Cyningburgh for over a week was pierced by shrieks of horror in the early morning yesterday when the sound of a window opening could be heard. Standing, with her head outside the window, was none other than the Aquidneck Diplomat to Newrey, Dame Sheryle Woodward. To avoid confrontation, the Police failed to lift their weapons up, many simply standing and watching as the Dame began to speak. Quickly, they realised their mistake. A gunshot sounded, and a red blob began to form and grow on the Dames' blouse who then slumped over. With disregard to humanity, the body was then shoved out of the window, landing on the pavement below with a mighty thump.

Quickly, the NPC stuck true to their word and requested control of the situation be handed over to the Landmight, seeing as it had become impossible for the NPC to respond given the lack of breaching equipment. The request was quickly accepted, with Grand Marshall Gavin Krupp commenting;

"The situation within the Aquidneck has reached fever pitch. As such, Supreme Chief Constable Griffith has, quite rightly, viewed it imperative to the safety of the remaining hostages that the gunmen be removed from the building quickly, so sent an official request for the situation to be handed over to the Landmight, which is more than prepared to respond. The Prime Minister has chosen to accept the request, and premeditated plans have been put

into action to free the remaining hostages from harm. The security and secrecy of the planned operation, however, requires that all news broadcasters be shut off and musn't broadcast live, if they should they can expect a damaged camera and a legal challenge"

Within minutes of the declaration, armed Landmight soldiers could be seen ordering camera crews and news anchors to turn off their cameras and forcing journalists off the air mid-interview, such was the case of Kelly Ann-Dowe from Cyningburgh News Station. It was also noticed that Loftmight (For international readers, that would be the equivalent of the Air Force) were flying their KV-13's, the workhorse of the Loftmight Fighter Command, surprisingly low and making runs very few minutes which resulted in several painful earfuls. In a bout of ridiculousness, it was hypothesised that the Loftmight would, on the orders of the Landmight, bomb the embassy, with the hashtag #ByeBlandBlock trending on Chirper internationally.

Of course, the increasingly common sound of the low flying jets had distracted everyone to the sound of helicopters coming in close. In fact, the sound was so deafened that no one noticed anything until an audible bang and smoke erupted from one of the front side windows, sending glass flying and, by the luck, away from the people who'd gathered. From out of the smoke came to black ropes, thrown over the side of the balcony, and from them were repelled several of the now freed hostages, who immediately ran towards the Police. However, only 13 of the 24 living hostages made it down the ropes, with the crackle of machine gunfire emanating from the building.

With bated breath, undivided attention was given to the Bland Block (for once) as shouting quickly became louder and louder. Out of the smoke emerged two men in black uniform, fully armed and wearing anti-gas military uniform, with an injured Arabekhian man, most likely one of the hostage takers. He was quickly attached to the rope and repelled down into NPC hands. This happened a further once more until Military Police units arrived to reinforce the NPC while forcing the crowd further away from the Aquidneck Embassy. A single window was opened, and from them were dropped a dead man, each with several blots of blood on their shirts, who quickly fell and hit the ground.

Despite the belief that the raid was now over, it was noticed that only three of the five hostage takers were accounted for, with NPC officers searching the hostages for a Arabekhian man, however the search proved unfruitful. It wasn't until the sound of a helicopter taking off and flying away that the fate of the other two became known. The NPC search of the surrounding area brought up two men that fitted the description of the hostage takers bound and placed on their bellies. One of them was left alive, while the other had a gunshot wound in the back of his head. The entire operation was over within fifteen minutes of the explosion occuring.

The identity of the black uniformed men has sparked a public interest into the Special Force of the Landmight, however the General Staff has refused to provide any answers as to who the men are or what regiment/unit they belong too, only commenting;

"The men who freed the hostages from the Aquidneck Embassy were acting on the orders of the Landmight and the Witenagemot."

The Witenagemot has also announced its plans to launch a public inquiry as to the origin of the gunmen, why they attacked and how they managed to smuggle military-grade weaponry into Newrey. The NPC has also stated that they will be reviewing and reevaluating their Procedure on Terrorist Attacks and its effectiveness, with the current one having been a cause of so many deaths during Fyrdmens' Sunday. Supreme Chief Constable Griffith of the National Police of Cyningburgh has also announced his intention to resign as Head of the NPC, seeing the attacks and subsequent siege as a key indicator to his inability to lead the NPC in future high pressure and tense situations. He has chosen Higher Chief Constable William McManus as his successor.

Fort Nijmegen is liberated by ArKav forces under Lieutenant-Colonel Stanger

News has reached KBN that Fort Nijmegen was retaken yesterday morning following a brief, but intense battle for the northern town; sources inside the government confirmed the news this morning prior to a press conference in which government spokesman Roos Junker made the formal announcement.

According to our sources the 2nd Battle for Fort Nijmegen, which is also officially being referred to as the Liberation of Fort Nijmegen, was initiated in the early hours of yesterday morning when advanced units of mobile infantry from 17th Mounted Grenadiers assaulted the outlying plantations surrounding the town. Within the space of an hour thirty two separate plantations were captured by ArKav forces in a coordinated strike which saw the majority of said plantations assaulted simultaneously. Once the positions surrounding Fort Nijmegen were taken ArKav forces initiated the assault on the town proper which resulted in a forty minute battle as SUSa tanks tried to break the siege lines laid against them; when their armour met with failure the remaining rebels started to fall back, at which point a force of mobile infantry and reconnaissance teams cut off their escape resulting in another brief firefight before the bulk of the rebels surrendered and were taken prisoner.

ArKav suffered light casualties, with two men dead, a further eight wounded, and two Krygsman transport vehicles severely damaged; light damage was also reported on a number of other vehicles and four tanks have had to return to their staging area for heavy maintenance. By comparison the reported SUSa casualties number an estimated seven hundred dead, over one thousand five hundred wounded and another thousand captured in what is now the largest battle of the conflict thus far in terms of relative losses. The government has yet to give specific numbers in relation tot he SUSa forces killed, wounded, or captured, however they have stated that the rebel soldiers will be detained in purpose built POW camps in the south of the Commonwealth.

Lieutenant-Colonel Stanger, who commanded the liberation forces, has been commended and recommended for a service decoration for success with so few casualties and a further five men from the force have been recommended for high military honours for bravery, gallantry, and skill.

Outrage over death of Aquidish diplomat in Newrey

Torden- The people of Aquidneck are outraged over the death of Ambassador Sheryle Woodward in the horrific terrorist attack on the Aquidish embassy in Newrey. Dame Woodward had been in the foreign service for over three decades and took the ambassadorship to Newrey last year. Ambassadorships to monarchies in Asura are generally seen as ways to honor long time members of the foreign service for excellent service. Ambassadors get knighted and are then sent to the nearby embassies to retire in an easier posting.

Dame Woodward had survived being the Ambassador to Ternca as well as being the chargé d'affaires of the Aquidish mission in Sagalash. King Matthew IV and the Royal Family shared their sorrow and asked that the country come together in these dark times. Regular business was suspended in the Senate as members from all parties gathered in the Senate chamber to share their condolences for the Woodward family and to the other victims of the attack on the embassy. Prime Minister Corbett meet with his cabinet, the King, and later senior members of the Progressive and Liberal parties and updated them on what happened and what was being done to across Aeia to ensure that such an attack is not carried out again.

Liberal Party Leader Senator Edward Morans has said that the government has the support of his party to deal with the surge of terrorism that has plagued the people of Aquidneck. Insiders in Hewlett Palace say that the Prime Minister plans on calling for a meeting of the Aeian Independence Pact in Karlsburg to formulate a joint response to the invasion of Aquidneck and Newrey. Members of the Senate were also quick to show their gratitude and support to the people of Newrey who have gone through this tragedy. Prime Minister Corbett said in a speech on the floor of the Senate that "Newrey is a close partner and I mourn for those who have lost their lives in this senseless violence especially on day like Fyrdmens' Sunday which is a day of remembrance. As members of the AIP we will work together to defeat extremism and hunt down those who seek to do us harm."

The Senators were quick to lay the blame on Saraibia and called on the former Aquidish colony to hand over anyone connected to the attacks. Prime Minister Corbett said of the Arabekhian nation that "The government of Saraibia has a choice to make in the coming days. They can either cooperate with the AIP and the wider civilized and bring those who did these horrific acts to justice or they can suffer the consequences that come of breaching the sovereignty of two AIP members." The line was meet with a standing ovation from all parties across the chamber. It is hard to believe that only a couple weeks ago this same group of senators was trying to oust the Prime Minister who now enjoys record high approval ratings.

President Elect Svendsen and his husband, former General
Mikkel Svendsen toasting to the election results of 2016.
Today, Glens across the country gathered to celebrate the inauguration of Glanodel's twenty-sixth President. As President Nikolaj Svendsen and his staff move into the North Chambers of Herregård, Landsting ministers and Folketing representatives alike are gripped with anticipation over what this new presidency will hold our nation. Often a figure of controversy, President Svendsen made quite a reputation while serving in both the Landsting and Folketing with his outspoken support of international unions and a more active foreign policy. Known on the international stage for his crucial role within the Toft Administration's foreign policy dealings with Rennekkan nations during the 1990s and early 2000s and his role in negotiations with Oser communists, Svendsen has always been popular among international groups. While many Glens are concerned that his administration may mean the end of Glenish neutrality, others see this as a good thing. Svendsen has been quoted saying that "Glenish values are human values," and "Glanodel has much more to offer the world than trade... and I believe we can show the world that Glanodel can not only be a force for prosperity but a force for good." If his campaign promises are any indication of what exactly he plans to accomplish while in office, one things can been certain. Glanodel will never be the same.

However, the President's foreign policy was not the only interesting aspect of his campaign. In late March, when the candidates were just beginning to emerge and campaign, pop media and the entertainment industries quickly voiced their support by the beginning of April for President Svendsen's candidacy. This was because of an aspect of the President's life that he generally kept out of the media. While many of the President's opponents claimed it was out of embarrassment, the President and many of his supporters stated that he preferred his privacy. Whatever the case may be, in May the President appeared for the first time with his husband of 15 years, Former Army General Mikkel Svendsen. Many political analysts have stated that it was this revelation that may have in fact helped him win. Whether this is true or not, President Nikolaj C. Svendsen will go down in Glenish history as the first, openly gay Glenish President. A momentous occasion indeed.

Protesters gather outside the Herregård in support of
the Asuran Community.
While the election of our new president has, of course, been the main focus over the past year, the campaigns of each candidate from March to July also gave rise to national discussions and debate over international unions. While public support for the nation's policy of neutrality has mostly held firm around 70-80% of the population, shifting sentiments among Glens has an almost even split. 46% of Glens still support Glanodel refraining from becoming too involved in international politics and 45% supporting the enacting of at least some level of active foreign policy. It is assumed that President Svendsen managed to get the majority needed to be elected because in addition to the "active foreign policy" supporters, another 6% of Glens believe that Glanodel has a duty to "spread Glenish values of equality and democracy to those who would accept them."

With discussions still underway in Midrasia over the formation of an Asuran Community, it is very possible that the shift in public opinion may hold a great deal of sway over the final decision of the Glenish government. Whether this is a belief that many other Glens will come to agree with or not, this shift no doubt marks as much of a change in Glenish foreign policy as the President's election.

Insecticide or Genocide?

And finally, our last headline for tonight, mosquitoes. While an almost non-existent problem in Glanodel which keeps most of insects at bay and a relatively mild nuisance for nations in places like Asura and Rennekka, as well as most of the developed world, for many nations in tropical, wet climates like Arabekh they are sometimes a serious public health hazard. Mosquitoes alone are attributed with the spread of numerous diseases, many of which cause hundreds of thousands of deaths throughout less developed regions of the world every year.

Since late November of 2008, biologists, geneticists, medical doctors, social scientists, and even social workers have created a great deal of international traffic between the APHO regional office in Graylund and the organization's numerous locations across the world. Mostly coordinating with the APHO headquarters in Newport, Aquidneck and the regional offices in Nieuwekerke, Den Helder and Port Arthur, Kavo, this growing team of researchers announced in 2010 their initiation of the Zoonoses Research Program in order to advance treatment and prevention options for diseases transmitted by animals.

Then, this year in September, the research team formally published their findings to the greater whole of the scientific community and their results have made headlines throughout the world. After extensive research into mosquito-borne diseases, the the lead geneticists of the program have announced that they may be able to enact a "genocidal gene" within the mosquito populations of any region. This gene would be introduced into a region's mosquito population through the release of hundreds of captivity-bred mosquitoes that possessed a latent sterility gene. The later expression of this gene would inevitably lead to the widespread reduction of mosquito birthrates. The science team has yet to make recommendations on whether to implement the tactic or not and plans to present their findings to international organizations across the world are underway.

Though zoologists and ecologist warn about the potential consequences of such widespread manipulation of the ecosystem, much of the scientific community has expressed some support for this process as a means to reduce global infection rates.

Hage Iyambo and Nicholas Chard elected as Presidents!

Harry Obobe

Image

Iyambo (pictured kissing his wife) with Chard pictured to the side

In a shocking and unprecedented result, Hage Iyambo and Nicholas Chard have been elected as joint-presidents of the Republic of Oshikoto, the first time the Liberal Party has been in power ever since independence over sixty years ago, with nearly 60% of the popular vote! Polls leading up to the election indicated another victory for the Unity Party, headed by Mokgweetsi Khama and Ian Duckenfield, however the rural areas of the country turned out to vote for the Liberals instead, breaking the twenty years winning streak of the Unity Party.

The election came at a time of heightened tensions between Oshikoto and Kavo, stemming from their recent occupation of Aramatheria in response to attacks from the terror group known as the Socialist Union of Sheera. While there have always been disagreements between Kavo and Oshikoto, largely because of the apartheid policy Kavo operates, but these have largely been ignored in favour of a policy of indifference, with Oshikoto occasionally protesting the actions. Iyambo and Chard, on the other hand, are both members of the Anti-Apartheid Alliance, an interest group made up of international politicians and businessmen that campaigns to end the apartheid regime, and are much more open about their opposition the Kavone government policies.

While the situation with Kavo is a subject of worty of its own double-page spread, there are other aspects of the Liberal party campaign;

Domestic Policy:

With the presence of rare and precious minerals being as high as that in neighbouring Kavo, the utilisation of the mines have slow and led to a slow economic climb. With the potential of the mines being huge to the job and economic market, the governing parties have been criticised for their inability to act upon the advantage. Both Iyambo and Chard have declared they are willing to expand the mines, however they doubt the economic impact of the mines given the fact it might over saturate the market, though they don't leave the option alone, with multiple inquires being ordered to investigate the economic impact. Another big domestic issue within Oshikoto is the poor air quality and condition of the slums within many of the country's cities experiencing some form of smog during the winter months. Both Chard and Iyambo have come out in favour of environmental actions being taken to combat the poor air quality, with catalytic converters likely becoming a mandatory item for vehicles to have and the implementation of harmful gases output limits, with hefty fines being levied against companies or individuals that go over the limit. In response to the slums, Chard has suggested the building of government housing to replace the slums, giving the poorer citizens access to basic necessities, as well as government construction projects being launch that will be staffed by poorer members of society, giving them a source of income. One such suggested project is the Trans-Oshikoto Motorway, linking the cities of the North to the capital of Oranke, giving a pipeline for funds and easier transportation of goods.

Foreign Policy:

Aside from the previously mentioned much more open criticism of Kavo, Chard and Iyambo have made clear their intentions of closer cooperation with Asuran and Rennekkan nations. With the economic hubs of Midrasia, Newrey, Glanodel, and Aquidneck, the new Presidents have hinted at a possible state visit to shore up relations and support for the ambitious projects the Presidents have in mind, as well as putting forwards a international image of Oshikoto, one that is accepting of others, forwards looking, and not the backwards and racist country that is often associated with Arabekhian nations.

Military:

With tensions with Kavo only likely to increase and heat up, many think tanks and interest groups have pointed to the current poor state of the Oshikoto military. Reports have shown that some units within the Army still use weapons from the Great War, as well as propeller aircraft for reconnaissance. While the fact these weapons are still in use show a great deal of care that the Oshikotoian military is capable of putting into its equipment, it will likely be inadequate in defending the country should it be attacked by a modernised force. Estimated costs of replacing the ageing equipment has placed it at a minimum of upwards of $300 billion, which will have to be.

The great projects the new Presidents have put forth will likely cost a great deal of money, with some projects having to be placed above the other.

For international readers, there may be interest as to why there are two people elected to the same position. It boils down to the ethnic makeup of the country, with 54% of the country being made up of Oshikoto Natives and 46% being made up of Newkotos (Term used for white immigrants to the nation). With the ethnic populations being so close, it was deemed unfair to have a single ruler of a single ethnic background to take the role of Head of State, so it was decided that there must always be a two Presidents, one to represent both majority ethnic make-ups. While criticised as ineffective and overly complicated, it has largely been seen as responsible for the relative peace the country has enjoyed between the two ethnic groups, as neither can claim the other is taking a dictatorial role.

National News Summary

Teyrn Bedwyr XVI Approves Lhaeraidh Withdrawal From Kavoene Markets

Teyrn Bedwyr XVI today formally approved the Kavoene government's withdrawal from Kavoene markets in a signed and sealed executive order today. The order which is officially known as Royal Order No.24457462 was drafted by the Chancellor Carwyn mab Tiernan, following the Kavoene military's occupation of the failed state of Aramtheria which lies directly north of the troubled military republic. The official text of the document states that the Kavoene government will no longer engage in trade or economic activities with the Kavoene government in Port Arthur, further it freezes all Kavoene accounts and assets within the Teyrnas and bans all Lhaeraidh companies and individuals from engaging in any kind of activity with the Kavoene government or Kavoene based companies. A second document, Royal Order No.24457463, has also been signed and sealed which orders the immediate revocation of visas for Kavoene citizens within the Teyrnas followed by their deportation back to Kavo.

These orders are a striking move for the Teyrn's government which has thus far had its foreign policy defined as 'largely complacent' by many. While the documents do make major steps away from Kavo the Teyrn has stopped short of withdrawing tir Lhaeraidd's recognition of Kavo as a state, and has ruled out the possibility of any military action in response to the latest actions by the Kavoene government.

Kavo is a large military republic located in north eastern Arabekh which has drawn significant controversy and condemnation from the international community since its founding in 1958, primarily due to its apartheid policies and suppression of the black Shuhuntu, Ashimi, and Zuhal ethnicities. Throughout the republic's bloody history it has fought protracted wars against black revolutionary groups and their latest military actions appear to be in response to the recent activities of the Socialist Union of Sheera (better known as SUSa). The Teyrn has officially condemned the violent actions of SUSa and other revolutionary groups in Kavo, but has stated that the Kavoene government's actions beyond its own borders are an unacceptable and unnecessary response.

Economic downturn results from Lhaeraidh withdrawal from trade with Kavo

The Kavoene stock markets narrowly avoided an outright crash after the government of tir Lhaeraidd froze Kavoene assets and withdrew from economic activities within the Commonwealth. The north Asuran kingdom had previously been a major trading partner investing in Kavoene mining interests, however this latest move has resulted in a sudden end to the flow of money and resources which had a major impact on the stock market.

The repercussions of the Lhaeraidh decision are already being felt, with three major mining interests now in negotiations with the government so as to avoid bankruptcy. In the long run however the consequences are expected to be even more dire, and could see the nation's GDP drop significantly. Lhaeraidh investment and companies had provided a significant number of businesses with financial liquidity, as well as as being a major buyer of various Kavoene goods.

SWEEPING LEGAL REFORMS!
David Risikko

With the rise of so many LGBT politicians in allied nations, such as Mrs. Isabella Lundber and the recently elected Glenish President, Nikolaj Svendsen, it could be considered beneficial to Newreyan foreign policy to become more welcoming to sexual minority citizens. However, the ever conservative Newrey has once again shown it would rather stick to its traditions and values than sacrifice them for anything modern or liberal. From a public poll held last year, it came to light that over 70% of Newreyans viewed Homosexuals and Transsexuals as 'sub-human', while a further 80% believe the two things are a choice rather than something someone is born as.

With this in mind, the Parliament of Newrey passed the controversial and often criticised Pride Act with an almost absolute majority in both Houses. In short, the Act effectively makes being homosexual, transsexual or anything other than heterosexual illegal, with punishments of varying strictness depending on what one is convicted for. Fines have been put in place for acts of gross public indecency, acts of the homosexual kind are banned (although this will be hard to enforce) and sex change operations have been removed from the National Healthcare Program, along with a number of other rulings that are homophobic by all accounts. The Pride Parades, once integral to the LGBT community in Newreyan, have been outlawed completely, with the display of the Gay Pride Flag banned from being waved or displayed in any way, other than public burnings. To top it all off, protections that were formerly in place for LGBT individuals have been removed. So now, applicants for a job can now be turned away simply because of their sexuality and they can be denied service or food for simply being open and comfortable with themselves.

The most worrying aspect of the passing of the Act? Almost as soon as the Act was passed, there as a spike in reports to the police of homophobic incidents, ranging from slur throwing to, most seriously, an individual being struck in the head with a glass bottle. Unemployment for LGBT individuals have also seen a slight climb, with many waking up from their sleep to find out they were no longer employed, or that their window was now broken.

It should be noted that LGBT members of Newrey are still eligible to vote and travel internationally. However, there are rumours that such rights can be infringed upon, with many hoping to call them 'Privileges' that one should earn, rather than what someone is born with. Such moves are likely to bring amount massive international criticism, especially from the LGBT-friendly nations of Glanodel, Oserland and Midrasia, but the natural stubbornness of Newreyans has the likelihood of this act remaining in place.

Demonstration Held by Orthodox Christians to reinstate the Terncan Monarchy
Image
Terncow, Ternca- Today in Terncow thousands of protesters assembled near the Terncan Parliment Building holding a demonstration to reinstitute the Terncan Monarchy, and bring back the Tsar. They call for the Tsar in exile’s closest heir who fled to Iscandria after the Communist Revolution of 1912, to be taken back to Ternca and given the title of Tsar. This was incited after the Terncan Orthodox Church, gave a statement to revive the monarchy, “We see the monarchy as a Glorious Part of Terncan Culture, that represents the Orthodox Faith and his Lord Jesus Christ. Ternca must reconnect with our cultural and Orthodox Heritage, and reinstalled the Monarchy, FOR THE FATHERLAND!”. This speech got a mixed response from many Terncans, some supporters like the Orthodox Man, Blanter Polikarp Larionovi. “I see the revival of Terncan Culture as a good thing to the Fatherland. We get a figure head to show our people and children native Terncan Culture instead of falling to the cultural influence of other states, like Newery that wish for the death of the Fatherland”, however others like the Terncan Atheist Lyubimov Kirill (Kirilka), had different things to say. “The Monarchy would simply be a waste of Terncan Money on the irrelevant, and seriously Ternca is a Socialist Federation, we shouldn't have to waste a dollar of my hard earned tax dollars on these bourgeoise.”. The Terncan Ruling Party, United Socialist Terncan Party, has not offered any comments on the protests currently. However it is expected an anti monarchist stance will be given.

UNITY IN ASURA

Image
Asuran leaders discussed plans in depth over the past week in Berghelling

Berghelling, Midrasia - Asuran leaders have officially announced the creation of the Asuran Community following the conclusion of talks this past week. The talks which sought to bring together the Asuran nations through greater trade relations and cooperation officially concluded with six of the seven attendees signing the agreement to enter into community. It is unknown whether Glanodel, the only attendee yet to sign to agreement will do so, however the Glenish government under President Nikolaj Svendsen looks set to do so in the near future. Although the agreement has been signed by the member nations, the treaty itself must be ratified by the legislative bodies of most signatory nations before being officially implemented.

Many within Asura are positive about the creation of a new community, one MP we spoke with earlier called of a "new era of cooperation and prosperity for the nations and peoples of this continent." Speaking earlier today to Dejunar entrepreneur and CEO of Tectus, Gerard Vrouix suggested the community would make Asura a much more attractive prospect for future investment. He also suggested that the community's greater trade links and bank passporting would lead to a boom in financial services. However not all are so optimistic about the Community, particularly in Newrey, where many right-wing MPs denounced the Community as simply Midrasian Cultural Imperialism. We interviewed one Newreyan citizen who stated: "Newrey was better off without the intervention of foreigners, this is just simply an attempt to allow immigrants to take the jobs of hard working Newreyans." It should be noted however that Newrey has selected to opt-out of the Bank and business passporting system in light of recent terror attacks in the area. Speaking on this matter, Interim speaker Mattieu Chaubon suggested that although Newrey would retain all previous border checks, they would be "left behind" in the financial sector. "We have made utmost assurances to Newreyan representatives that our visa-free system would be compatible with pre-existing border measures, however in light of recent events it is only natural that Newrey would want to take precautions. Although we understand these measures, if they remain in place long-term Newrey will not fully benefit from the Community's economic arrangements.

Six of the Seven attendees have so far signed the agreement to Community

In the coming weeks, Asuran nations will go to the polls for the first Community elections, with elections coming so close following the conclusion of the talks, polls are non-existent, so there are very few predictions on who will make up the majority of the Assembly. However in Midrasia it is expected that the Liberal and Social-Democrats will win big due to their major role in the creation of the Community itself. Of the 364 seats on offer, Midrasia will take 110, with the remainder being split among the other member states based on population size. The Assembly itself will legislate on matters related to the Community's given functions as outlined in the Treaty of Berghelling. The Assembly will also be able to agree to the assent of additional members to the Community, provided there is a supermajority of sixty percent in favour. Observer states may also join the Community, provided they are sponsored by at least two member states. Observers may gain access to the internal markets and treaties of the community, however will not receive representation within the Assembly, or have any input on internal treaties and legislation.

However the Community's legislative function also extends to the Council of Asura, made up of the heads of state of each member. Within the Council, each member state will receive equal representation at one member, one vote. All legislation is required to pass both houses to be enacted into law, thereby giving assurances to smaller nations within the Community, such as Vrnallia and Nausikaa that their voices will be heard on the supranational scene.

Within the coming weeks, we will be informed of future developments within the Community, as MAPs take their seats following elections. A myriad of legislation up for discussion is believed to be in development by many members of the Community, however the limited scope of the community for the time being ensures that the majority of these matters will be limited to economic legislation, due to the supermajority requirement on legislation affecting social matters. Despite this, continued unity and cooperation may ensure further integration and prosperity for Asuran nations.

Asuran Community Elections Held!

The first elections for Members of the Asuran Parliament or MAPs have been held and it does not look good for the government. The center-left Liberal Party blew away pundit's expectations and took 38 of the 89 seats. The governing Royalist Party only took 23 seats, while the Progressive Party and Green Party each took 10. The Republican party took the remaining 8 seats.

The newly elected MAPs are largely unknown to the public, but are familiar faces to those inside the structures of the parties. They are much younger than the Senate and many think the newly elected MAPs will use the new title and job as a stepping stone and resume builder. The youngest MAP is 18 year old Giustino Moretti from the Green Party. Moretti was elected to represent the constituency of Bodmin, which is a combination of the counties of East and West Bodmin.

It has yet to be seen what hte makeup of the newly created Asuran Parliament will look like, so the government's coalition may still come out on top. However if all else fails the government will have it's voice heard in the Asuran Council, which is made up of each of the Heads of State from each member nation. King Matthew IV or a representative picked by the King will vote on all legislation passed by the lower chamber.

Will the this grand experiment in Asuran unity pan out or will it fizzle into nothingness? Only time will tell!

ArKav Forces Retreat At Vijters

The Battle of Vijters which has lasted the better part of two weeks has now come to an end, with reports coming in from correspondents in the field that ArKav forces have been forced into retreat. The Battle which saw a relief force of some 8,000 ArKav troops face off against SUSa forces numbering approximately 30,000. Though better trained, organised, and equipped than the SUSa rebels ultimately the numbers won out, even with ArKav maintaining air superiority throughout. This defeat comes as a shocking blow to the regime and to ArKav, with it being the first time ArKav forces have been defeated by SUSa forces since the beginning of the Fourth Brush War. Colonel de Wet, who commanded the ArKav forces at Vijters, has stated that the decision to retreat from the field was made due to the high rate of attrition suffered by his forces; throughout the battle the relief force suffered 446 dead, and 1880 wounded, and while key war materiel such as tanks were not lost a large number of helicopters and light vehicles were.

De Wet's forces have now withdrawn back towards Salisbury where they will meet up with units under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Anselm, once there the wounded will be transferred to hospital facilities and Anselm's forces will reinforce the depleted elements under Colonel de Wet. Though no precise plans have been confirmed the consolidation of forces at Salisbury seems to imply that a second attempt will be made to relieve the besieged city of Haag in short order. Meanwhile forces under the command of Lieutenant-Colonel Stanger, who was decorated following his successful defeat of SUSa forces in the northwest, are said to be moving in from Kristiaanville so as to threaten the southern and western siege lines which have been raised by SUSa forces.

The situation in Haag continues to be dire, with the commander of the defence forces in the city, Lt.-Col. Tavar struggling to maintain control of the key districts of the city under the increasing weight of rebel attacks. Reports coming out of the city, and statements issued by Tavar show that his forces remain in good spirits and determined to stand their ground, and as a result fighting in the city continues to be intense; however the general situation has grown desperate with civilians now struggling to find food and clean water. The humanitarian crisis which is brewing in the city could soon result in an outbreak of cholera, as well as a whole host of other diseases if something does not change soon. Despite the civilian cost SUSa continues to refuse to allow aid convoys to enter the city, and efforts to evacuate the civilian populace have thus far been impossible because of the refusal by SUSa commanders to allow safe passage.

National News Summary

Talks Being Held in Neuaddduwiau On The Kavo Situation

Talks have today begun in Neuaddduwiau between diplomats from Ternca, Aquidneck, Vrnallia and the Lhaeraidh government in order to discuss what should be done on a broader level about the increasing violence occurring in the so called Commonwealth of Kavo. The largely unrecognised republic in northeastern Arabekh has had a troubled history since its formation in 1958 and the recent surge of violence and outbreak of civil war have combined to raise renewed concerns over the political viability of the regime's continued existence. As an unrecognised state until now Kavo's affairs have largely been ignored, however the recent election of the anti-Kavoene presidents in Oshikoto, and the growth in illegal Kavoene exports have made the issue one of global concern. Not only this but the increasing threat of a major humanitarian crisis in the region serves as a stark warning of the consequences of inaction.

These talks are intended to discuss the possibility of extended economic sanctions against the Kavoene regime in an effort to bring about a peaceful negotiated end to the conflict, as well as an end to the abhorrent practice of apartheid. None of the nations involved in the talks presently recognise Kavo's government as legitimate, with the territory officially being regarded by tir Lhaeraidd as an illegal autonomous territory, and one of the key points of the talks will be how best to sanction the Kavoene regime without granting it the recognition and legitimacy it desires. The Teyrn has stated that his primary goal is the end of apartheid in Kavo and the initiation of a process whereby Kavo can enter the community of nations on terms acceptable to the parties involved in the talks.

It is also hoped that these talks will proceed in good faith, so that a solid basis for future diplomatic talks can be established. The Teyrnas presently stands relatively isolated within Asura, with its form of government excluding it from inclusion in the Asuran Community and its lack of membership at the present time to either of the main global alliances. The Teyrn has previously stated that he hopes to carve out a strong, stable, but largely independent position for tir Lhaeraidd which will foster trade and continued social, scientific, and political progress. Tir Lhaeraidd relies upon the free exchange of ideas and the continued export of high quality goods and services in order to thrive, and in order to provide insurance for both of these factors agreements must be made and relations maintained.

Vrnallian Trade Talks Conclude

Talks in Neuaddduwiau between a Vrnallian trade delegation and members of the Teyrn's government concluded today with the signing of a new, historic treaty. The agreement with Vrnallia has resulted in visa free travel between tir Lhaeraidd and Vrnallia, as well as an open trade agreement to reduce import and export tariffs. This new deal secured by Tern Bedwyr's initiative is expected to increase mutual tourism and trade revenues. The agreement will also form the framework for future agreements and cooperation with the Vrnallian government who, due to their position off the coast of mainland Asura, are a key trading partner.

Historians and Archaeologists Excited After Discovery of Llanfwy Man

Historians and Archaeologists from the University of Caer Ffywr today announced the discovery of the first completely intact human bog body to have been recovered in tir Lhaeraidd since 1997. The body which has been named Llanfwy Man, after the village near which he was found has been dated to as early as 2000 BCE, placing him firmly within the period in history when ancient Paithwaidh culture was near its peak and making his the oldest fleshed bog body to have been found in tir Lhaeraidd. A bog body is a mummified human corpse which has been naturally preserved in a peat bog and those discovered in tir Lhaeraidd date variously from as far back as 8000 BCE all the way up to as recently as 200 CE.

Llanfwy Man was found in a peat field where a number of other bodies and human artifacts had been found previously; archaeologists were in fact looking for traces of human habitation in the area such as the remains of buildings or pottery. What makes Llanfwy man special though is the incredible state of preservation in which he was found, with flesh, organs, and hair all intact; even a significant portion of his clothing was found to be perfectly preserved by the soil, as well as torques and other items of metal work. If the initial dating of the body is accurate then the artifacts found with it may lead to incredible discoveries regarding the nature of Paithwaidh culture and society at a time when written records are all but non-existent.

Excavation of the site continues, with the team of archaeologists still hopeful of uncovering more artifacts and possibly more bodies; meanwhile the body has been painstakingly removed from the peat bog and transported to a special facility at the National Institute for History in Neuaddduwiau for further study and preservation.

First Asuran Parliament Elections: Results In
Miedzi Sosa, 2016/29/11

The results of Vrnallia's first elections to the newly-created Asuran Parliament are in, and the Socialist Party has won half of the six seats given to Vrnallia.

Two electoral regions were created - Dvrieska-Hujre and Mlekie-Vorod-Mazej. The Socialist Party won two seats in the former region, with the third going to the Conservatives. The Conservatives, Socialists and Centrists each won a seat in the latter region. All of the parties have expressed a generally positive attitude towards the Asuran Community, with the Conservatives being most critical of the idea of a supranational parliament. The parties have already announced their bloc preferences within the AP - the Socialists will join the Asuran Socialist League, the Conservatives will join the Asuran Democratic Alliance and the Centrists will join the Asuran Liberal Alliance.

The AP will hold its first session soon, and we at Ustienna will keep readers updated.
