Phase Two Announced
Air Campaign Strategy Change

After the continued success of the Sagitean led air campaign over Johka, Air Marshal Richard Spence has initiated what is being called 'Phase Two', heralding in several changes in the overall tactics being employed against Johkan forces. This is expected to bring about further strategic successes and hopefully mitigate the coalition losses suffered so far. The Air Marshal called the operations up to this point, now referred to as Phase One, as a rousing success and a point of national pride, but has been rigorous in insisting that the strategy must evolve in order to continue to be effective. So far the strategy has been to target key military installations which support Johkan forces in the field, including radar and communications centres; this developed into a strategy of targeting the repair crews as they attempted to restore the functionality of damaged and destroyed infrastructure.

Phase Two will involve the withdrawal of manned recon flights, with the exception of extreme altitude craft, from areas near known Johkan anti-air forces. However this change will come coupled with a change in the way targets are selected and how attacks are undertaken. Most notably Sagitean aircraft will begin targeting supporting infrastructure such as factories, warehouses, power stations, and container ports in an effort to cripple both the Johkan military ability and the ability of their economy to sustain the military campaign against coalition forces. In addition tank hunter drones and aircraft will now be employed in direct support of coalition forces in the north.

World grows increasingly unstable; Aquidish government struggles to keep up

By: Aristo Scelfo
Torden, Aquidneck - The war in Johka has begun full force and the Aquidish forces have taken some casualties. The Aquidish forces were group along with our Newreyan allies off the eastern coast of the country. They have been meet with heavy resistance despite successful air raids and coastal shelling. Attempts to land forces on the mainland have been difficult with some landing craft being turned back. Other coalition forces in the North have had an easier go and have managed to push into the country. Johka is not backing down and the fighting is growing more intense as the coalition gets deeper into the interior of the nation. A Defense Ministry spokesperson said that a full causality list will be released in the coming days and said that if people wanted to help, they should donate money to the fund that the Treasury set up to aid refugees and those fleeing from the war.

The Johkan War is not the only foreign policy issue that is giving Aquidneck trouble. The Foreign Affairs Minister denounced the Republic of Torroso's recent coup and has called upon the nation to cease it's hostilities in northern Arabekh and in the vital Torroso Strait. The strait is one of two ways out of the Azur and is a vital shipping route. Traditionally Aquidish naval forces have patrolled the strait and the Defense Ministry announced today that the Royal Navy would be increasing it's patrols in the Torroso Strait as well as the Troping Strait. The Troping Strait is the thin area between mainland Aquidneck and the city of Troping which is located in Northern Arabekh. Troping has been apart of Aquidneck since the 1200s and is home to 75,000 Aquidish citizens. The Defense Ministry also announced that a contingent of 100 marines would be added to the city's garrison.

Torroso is not the only Arabekhi nation giving Aquidneck, and the wider world, problems. Tarasanovia has recently joined Torroso in supporting Johka in the war in the south. While the support has largely been symbolic so far, there are worries that this could escalate into something larger. Additionally Tarasanovia has recently announced it's intentions to expand beyond it's borders to claim more land. The Foreign Affairs Ministry was quick to condemn the announcement and their support of Johka. The diplomatic relationship with Tarasanovia has been strained for about a year now since the nation closed it's borders and trapped Aquidish citizens within. While the issue was later resolved peacefully the incident soured relations between the kingdom and Tarasanovia and it has never fully recovered. Their recent activities, including backing the coup in Torroso, are unlikely to improve the relationship any time soon.

Another hot spot in Arabekh that is of particular interest to Aquidneck is the ongoing civil war in Kavo. There has been some calls to recognize the PRA which controls a section of the country they call, Araabyne. Those in charge of the PRA seem to be repentant of their role in the nation's previous apartheid government and seek to make amends. Some in the Senate have called on the government to recognize the PRA as the legitimate government of Kavo and to send them humanitarian aid. This would require Aquidneck to end the embargo currently placed on Kavo. So far the Foreign Affairs Ministry has not commented on any plans to do so.

Further south, in Rennekka war has broken out between Wustenland and Rohst over what was formerly known as Krieslen. Krieslen, for all intents and purposes no longer exists as a nation despite some Asuran nations insistence otherwise. After a series of events in which Wustenland and Rohst claimed portions of the former nation, the two are now at each other's throats. The Foreign Affairs Ministry has not come out on either side and asked that both nations cease their fighting and peacefully resolve their differences. This is not the strong rebuke that some Senators were looking for, one Green Senator accused the Foreign Affairs Ministry of "dancing" around the issue so as not to offend Rohst which is a major trading partner.

Obviously the Foreign Affairs Ministry has updated their travel warnings. Torroso is joining the likes of Kavo, Tarasanovia, and Saraibia as nations in Arabekh that Aquidish citizens are warned against traveling too. There are no Aquidish diplomatic presence in any of the above mentioned countries and Aquidish citizens in need of assistance are told to go to the closest Asuran nation embassy for help. A warning has also been placed on both Wustenland and Rohst, it advises against travelling to areas where their is conflict, but say that the rest of the countries are relatively safe. Johka is the first nation outside of Arabekh to receive a warning against travel in over five years, obviously as Johka and Aquidneck are at war; Aquidish citizens should not visit Johka. Lastly in a move that received little fanfare from the ministry, the warning against LGBT people travelling to Newrey was removed from the travel warning list.

The Foreign Affairs Ministry was quick to point out that not everything in their portfolio was bad and held up the newly formalized Aquidish-Newreyan Alliance as the example. The two kingdoms have historically been close since the Great War and have cooperated together on a number of issues, but the alliance was never formally put on paper. This new treaty covers legal, political, economic, and military issues and has brought the two nations closer together. One of the major provisions in the treaty is the creation of DA-MP Arms. The new firm which was a combination of the largest shipbuilding firm in Aquidneck with the largest arms manufacturer in Newrey will see the two nation's armed forces equipped with the most cutting edge weapons and armor. Other provisions include significantly reduced trading barriers and a promise to spend at least 2.5% of GDP on defense.

There have been rumors in the Foreign Affairs Ministry and in the Defense Ministry about a possible alliance with Midrasia. It is unknown if this alliance would be separate from the Aquidish-Newreyan treaty or if Midrasia would be added onto that document. Midrasia and Aquidneck have had a good relationship since the Great War with very few incidents since then and both are members of the Asuran Community, however the AC is not a military alliance, and is viewed by some in Aquidneck to be a fairly weak political body. Just recently when Torrosan naval force fired upon Midrasia naval ships in the area for the RIMOPAC exercises, the Midrasian ships fled back to Aquidish waters for safe haven and were allowed to dock and recover in Aquidish ports. Sources tell us the government is open to the idea of a formal alliance, but it would probably have to wait until after the Senate elections that are coming up in a few days. There are some concerns about the Midrasian Spring as well. So far Aquidneck has not had any major issues and the events in Midrasia have largely been peaceful, but there are some who worry that these massive protests could spread throughout Asura.

Another nation that Aquidneck is seeking closer ties to is Cheonsam. The nation shares a water border with Mayawi and the two areas are culturally linked, though there are some major differences due to Aquidish influence in Mayawi. Chonsam companies have set up branches in Mayawi because of a similar language and the access to the Asuran markets. The two nations are expected to sit together and work out a trade deal in the coming months.

The Senate elections are coming up soon and it is not looking good for the incumbent Royalist Party. Some analysts have pointed to the Midrasian Spring and claim that the protests have inspired Aquidish citizens to vote against those currently in power. The Liberal party looks likely to gain some of the seats lost by the Royalists, but analysts are unsure if they will be able to get enough seats from the smaller parties and the Progressives to take a majority. It is increasingly looking like a coalition government will form. Whoever wins the next government has a lot on their plate from domestic issues like the budget to a long list of foreign policy issues.

Air Campaign Targets Enemy Countermeasures

As part of the unfolding Phase Two of the Air Campaign over Johka the Sagitean Air Force, supported by the brave servicemen and women of other Coalition nations, are beginning a direct assault against the anti-air and anti-naval countermeasures being employed by Johkan forces. These countermeasures have already had a major impact upon the landing forces and continue to pose a threat as the Coalition lands additional men and materiel in the war torn country; having crippled vital command infrastructure already Sagitean jets are now targeting known missile and long range artillery sites.

Manned reconnaissance flights have also been scrapped with the exception of high altitude flybys, in their place sophisticated unmanned drones are being used to minimise the risk to Coalition personnel. These drones will hopefully give our forces the clear picture they need in order to effectively combat the Johkan military; close cooperation with ground forces has also been essential, with Sagitean reconnaissance over the contested northern areas intent on identifying key enemy installations and positions so that ground forces and artillery can target them.

The positions identified as countermeasures include anti-air positions, long range artillery, missile silos, mobile rocket launchers, and large concentrations of military support vehicles. By directly targeting these locations it is hoped that the Johkan ability to respond will be severely diminished and that casualties on the ground will be reduced.

National News Summary

Terncan Steel Imports on the Rise

Imports of mass produced steel from Ternca are on the increase according to a report published by the Treasury today which the government claims is a sign of growth in the Lhaeraidh economy. The steel industry in Ternca is a major provider to Lhaeraidh markets and has been since the late 1980s when international and domestic investment in Terncan industry took off, however the past quarter has seen an unprecedented increase in the demand for Terncan steel within tir Lhaeraidd which is above an beyond the normal level of growth and no doubt a cause for celebration in Terncow.

Tir Lhaeraidd has not mass produced steel on a competitive scale for decades, since the Lhaeraidh steel industry started to go into decline in the 1960s and 1970s; since then the focus for steel manufacturers and metallurgist’s companies in tir Lhaeraidd has been to produce high quality materials and advanced composite alloys for specialist use. This has left a high demand for mass produced steel which can only be filled through imports from abroad; until now this demand has been met through a blend of various international sources, however this new data indicates a sharp increase in steel imports from Ternca.

The demand for steel in tir Lhaeraidd has steadily risen since 2014 due to the comprehensive programmes of infrastructural improvement which have been underway since that time. Most important among these for the steel industry is the hyperspeed rail network intended to link Arzoa and tir Lhaeraidd, and connect with the rest of mainland Asura. However in spite of increased demand the cost of manufacturing steel domestically remains too high for a revival of the local mass steel industry, which means the demand must be filled by imports.

Ternca seems to be the popular source for steel because of the quantity it produces combined with the quality of the product overall. This when considered against the cost means that steel from foundries in Ternca is the perfect choice for Lhaeraidh construction companies seeking a financial balance. Not only this but due to consistent investments in Terncan startup businesses and industry by Lhaeraidh banks and financial institutions over the last two decades it is in the best interest of these institutions and the government to encourage growth in this market.

The past two decades have seen a marked rise in economic relations and trade between tir Lhaeraidd and Ternca. Ternca now represents the third largest trading partner of tir Lhaeraidh outside WACO after Midrasia and Oserland, and is the partner whose commerce is growing the quickest. With Lhaeraidh investment paying off in abundance it now seems that Terncan finance is entering Lhaeraidh money markets providing investment in civil aerospace engineering among other things. Indeed in the last year Ternca has become one of the largest buyers per capita of civil aircraft engines and parts from tir Lhaeraidd.

The Taoiseach, Líadáin Síomha, has made the strengthening of ties between WACO and the nations of Catai; in particular Ternca, a high priority. Many nations in southern and eastern Catai have developing economies which are fertile ground for investment and international trade and as Catai markets expand so too must tir Lhaeraidd and WACO’s influence and involvement; Ternca forms a vital link in this process – as a well developed nation with improving infrastructure which spans across more than two thirds of the continent’s length it is an essential land route for trade. By encouraging Terncan imports and fostering solid relationships the Síomha administration hopes that it can keep the country ahead of the competition.

WACO Policy Talks Continue
Various New Agreements Announced

As the WACO Policy Summit continues in Neuaddduwaiu various announcements have been made, which include a number of agreed policy initiative. At a press conference this morning WACO spokesman, Syr Lloyd Twyburne, outlined some of the key policy points which had been agreed upon thus far; most important of these being new environmental policies.

The WACO policy regarding clean energy has been reinforced, with additional taxation now approved on high yield polluters; these funds shall be funnelled into research projects to improve the existing clean energy technologies and infrastructure of WACO member states. In addition the regulations on pollution now extend not only to air and water pollution, but also soil contamination. All carbon emissions are to be closely monitored and where they are deemed to be excessive measures are to be taken to contain and filter the pollutants.

A combined ‘War on Carbon Emissions’ as been declared, with plans to cultivate large areas of woodland as well as peat bogs in northern tir Lhaeraidd. Forested areas are well known for their natural ability to store carbon and filter it out of the environment, however recent research has shown that the peat bogs, which are a natural feature of northern and parts of central tir Lhaeraidd, can safely contain up to a third more carbon than woodlands per square kilometre. In addition to tree farming and peat bog cultivation projects the WACO states have also agreed to support tax incentives and subsidies for farmers and large land owners, to encourage the developed of small ‘wilderness’ areas as both a protected habitat for native wildlife and a means of mitigating pollution.

With regards to the Johkan issue it has been agreed unanimously to condemn the Johkan government and state for its crime against humanity. Furthermore WACO has announced a blanket ban on travel to the now war torn nation. The individual nations of WACO had previously enforced their own individual sanctions against Johka and their government, but now it is a matter of WACO policy and a uniform set of sanctions are to be put forward pending discussions with other power who have remained neutral in the military conflict so far. It is anticipated that diplomatic correspondence with nations such as Ternca and Rohst will commence with the aim of creating a global network of sanctions. It was however made plain that WACO would not be getting militarily involved in the conflict.

Discussions relating to other matters, such as Asuran trade and hunting remain topics of discussion as the summit progresses. In the next update it is anticipated that policies relating to the New Jade Road, investment in Rennekka, and trade with Midrasia, Oserland, and Aquidneck will be announced.

Race for Potter's Bank

Transcript from a local radio newscast:
The long hard slog for Gilesgate is now over a week behind us; the dust has settled over the key to a successful campaign in central Kavo and the embers have finally died out, but the war is not over. With the replacement of General van Beyer the forces which attacked Gilesgate; a motley assortment of ex-Kavoene marines, quickly trained conscripts, and various militia groups, has been reorganised along more formal military lines. In the place of a highly organised collective van Beyer’s replacement Colonel Djimon Hota, an ex-SUSa officer, has created a workable and effective army which has been dubbed the Army of the East. Though newly created this Army is already an experienced and capable fighting force with every one of its soldiers having fought against ArKav in the city; but now they must move north and adapt to the rapidly changing conditions that spring on the central Veld brings.

Tanks can be employed now in force, and air and artillery support is more readily available. Rapid advances are possible, but with them comes the risk of a rapid retreat should ArKav manage to muster an effective counterattacking force. A little over ten thousand men and women now stand ready to push the fight north into the heart of ArKav held territory; between them one hundred tanks, one for every hundred infantrymen. These aren’t the obsolete tanks of the 1970s and 1980s which were employed by SUSa forces at the outbreak of the war, nor are they the modern Uitdager IIs that once formed the backbone of Kavo’s might. These are second hand refitted Durban IVs, a Lhaeraidh tank design, purchased from the Sagitean armed forces; not as speedy or resilient as the Uitdager IIs they will face, but certainly more numerous and much easier to supply.

Now the northward rush can begin; Colonel Hota has marshalled his forces north of Gilesgate and has announced his readiness to the PRA high command in Shincliffe. Key military advisor Arna Nguela, herself a high level defector from SUSa and the PDRS, has also given the all clear for operations to begin, declaring that the Army of the East is better equipped now than ever it has been. So over the last few days the tension and excitement within the camps and temporary barracks of Hota’s army have mounted to a fever pitch, with one question on every soldier’s mind, when will the big push begin? The answer came today in a communication from President van der Veld himself, the contents a simple, ”You may proceed, goodspeed and good luck.” So few words yet with such rousing effect as the army began its push north into the southern heartlands of ArKav controlled Kavo.

The first target, Potter’s Bank, lies along the coast north of Gilesgate. Once a popular holiday resort for those seeking a quick weekend getaway, now it is the first stepping stone in the advance towards Port Arthur. After this town has fallen on to Nettlesworth, then Sugarmarket, and finally Brandon, the last major position before Port Arthur itself. If the Army of the East is to make it that far then it must continue to have the full support of the Provisional Government, thus far its new commander, Colonel Hota, has the full endorsement of the military high command, President van der Veld, and more importantly Arna Nguela; for it is doubtless she who will play the major role in sculpting our country’s future after the war.

TORROSO TO JOIN TARASANOVIA IN THEIR QUEST FOR WATER, AIR FORCE EN ROUTE IN SUPPORT OF JOHKA
Image
AE-23s over the newly claimed Torrosoan territory, reportedly scanning the surface for underground water tables.

Weathermen squadrons have been sent into the unoccupied desert in search of water and resources, military officials released on Tuesday. "The purpose of the mission is for the means of the nation itself..." and reportedly is "[n]ot to stir up international relations, but rather, further the independence of Torroso from foreign markets." Gessius also has been noted to speak on the subject. "Tarasanovia, probably our greatest ally, has found a noble deed among Saraibia, another friend of ours who we hold dear, to bring unity in Arabekh. Our nations have been threatened by the influences of Asuran nations before, and we hope to achieve what is best for the continent."

Forces allegedly have reached the inner-Arabekh desert, meeting with Tarasanovian forces in cooperation. When asked for any further comment on this, the Defense Ministry did not give any. However, later in the conference, it was accounted that Torrosoan aircraft are en-route to Johka after escalation "...in support of the Johkan nation, as an expeditionary group..." and are "in no means to directly threaten the coalition forces under Torrosoan identity." Once again asked for further commentary on the situation, asking if the aircraft being sent were 'donations', was met with no avail. The conference soon ended afterwards.

The former crew of the TRS Serio are now roaming on the streets a week after the incident occured. A notice was given out directly from the Defense Minister that their actions "...taken during in place of the coup" were "...irresponsible and obstructive to foreign affairs," the notice noted. Gessius allegedly gave out this order himself, but this has not yet been determined. The ship is currently in dock at Naval Station Avella, where the new crew are to accommodate her in four months time.

Duma passes first round of sanctions against Tarsanovia
Terncow, Ternca-

Image

Today, after a heated debate in the Duma Terncan Policymakers have come to a critical aggrement got the terms of Tarsanovian sanctions and successfully passed the first round of Tarsanovian sanctions.
"These sanctions are hoped to punish an increasing erratic Tarsanovian regime, which is now couping nations in its neighborhood, illegally annexing territory with the consent of the international community, or referenda, and finally supporting a barbaric genocidal regime in Johka which must be curtailed. The Terncan Federation will move swiftly for the full implementation of these sanctions, and will keep them in place until we see the Tarsanovian regime complying with international norms or laws" spoke the Terncan PM today over the vote.

The measure passed with a 66% vote, which shows the popularity of such sanctions among the Terncan Government and people. However the minor Conservatie Party of the Terncan Federation and a large portion of Communist MPs disapproved of the measure, saying that "It wouldn't affect Tarsanovia at a major level, while at the same time depressing demand for Terncan Goods. At the same time these sanctions will reduce our ability to deal with Tarsanovia in the future and increase hated of Ternca in Tarsanovia as state owned media outlets would blame economic crisises on the Terncan Federation instead of their own policies. I will watch as these policies falter to keep Tarsanovia in check" noted critical Terncan Communist MP Chudov Roman. However many yes Terncan policymakers have said that doing nothing will be even worse then sanctions as Tarsanovia won't be kept in check, and the TF can find alternative sources for demand. However this is clear to be a major debate in Terncan Politics. Yolkina Evgenia Ternca Times

*Full Release Text of Sanctions
  • The Socialist Federation of Ternca will implement large scale asset freezes on any Tarsanovian assets held by high level government or military officials
  • The Socialist Federation of Ternca will BAN the sale of guns to the Republic of Tarsanovia, the Military of Tarsanovia, and any Tarsanovian backed rebel movements.
  • The Socialist Federation of Ternca will restrict the sale of equipment to drill and/or refine crude oil to Tarsanovia.
  • The Socialist Federation of Ternca will implement taxation of Tarsanovian Investments, as well as returns on Tarsanovian Assets

Reflecting on the Labor Day Rallies in Ternca
Terncow, Ternca-

Image

May the First is a very important holiday in Ternca, formed in Terncow during the formation of communist and other workers movements. The holiday works to protest in what the protesters see as the repressive nature of capitalism, protest infringements on their rights, by both business and government, and finally solidarity with the workers of Aeia. The holiday is an important event for the Communist Party of Ternca, as well as other far left orginzations in Ternca.

This year's Labor Day saw an average amount of ralliers, relative to other events, as well as large counter protests by the Terncan Alt-Right. One of the biggest rallies was held in the business district of Terncow with many protesters protesting the exploitation of Terncan Workers at home, and forigen workers abroad, as well as their hoarding of assets in tir Lhaeraaid and Valatin. Other large rallies included the yearly "coal rallies" of the city of Novorossimna near the CPSN border, protesting the exploitation of CPSN mining workers, who mine the coal and iron that goes into Terncan steel.

However this year with the resurgent Terncan alt-right large counter demonstrations were held near the Labor Day demonstrations, and Antifa Ternca and various alt right groups got involved in several violent confrontations, one of the first time this has happened. The UTSP has noted that as the years pass Labor Days are growing more and more violent, however the Communist Party blames this on the emerging alt-right which the UTSP is failing to address, and many are now saying UTSP is tolerating it's rise to kick the Communists out of power. The Duma is expected to hold a heating about how to combat this increasing violence in the near future.

To conclude this article, we must realize the importance of Labor Day in Terncan Politics, it app press is to place a stethoscope on radical Terncan Political Movements and anylase then. This year we have found some dangerous trends of a growing air right, spurred on by fears on immigration. It is up to the people of Ternca to all this if it is to late. Skvortsov Zakhar Ternca Times.

CPSN Aid To Civilians In Jokha
5 May 2017

The ongoing crisis in Jokha has seen hundreds killed and hundreds more wounded over the past few days. President Lev confirmed with our reporters yesterday that the CPSN will send aid over to Jokha. "The civilians there are in danger, we can't stand by and watch these atrocities; we have to do something", he spoke in front of press yesterday evening. "I believe that sending military forces over will only result in higher casualties on both sides, as such, humanitarian aid will be given instead. No matter where they are, if they are dying then it is our duty as fellow humans to help them. We strongly condemn the Johkan government's decision to carry out these unnecessary killings. We recognise that in the end, all of us are humans and whether we like it or not, we must do our damnedest to save as many of these people from perishing as we can. 'To unite and defend' is our country's national motto and we will assist in reuniting these people and defend them from harm".

President Lev has already begun to organise the airdrop schedule and have contacted both the Johkan government as well as the joint task force organised by Midrasia. The supply runs are estimated to cost at least $4 million as currently scheduled. According to Polsani Kvas, Head of Latkujvia and acting Minister of Finance, "There is no price too big to pay for peace". Polls have seen many Pan-Slavics willing to help donate to the cause, with 3 in 20 having already donated at least $1.

Head of East Ukarainin and standing Minister of Defence, Rinsk Molyutva, has a slightly different view on the Johkan situation, as he told press after a meeting with the President later that day: "We will not be sending military forces... unless deemed necessary..." "... however, if the situation continues to escalate or the humanitarian aid is actively attacked by the forces of the Johkan government, we will not hesitate to intervene". Skeptics say that the CPSN's military involvement in the Johkan crisis is "highly unlikely", due to the "sheer amount of power the current joint task force already possesses". Many predict that the crisis will meet a quick, yet bitter end.

BREAKING NEWS: 3 Injured In Bush Fire Hospitalised
5 May 2017

Soaring temperatures this morning have resulted in the outbreak of small bush fires throughout the southeast of the country. A group of workers had been returning from their breakfast break when a nearby bush caught ablaze. The men reported the fire to the local authorities, but according to witnesses "tried to put the fire out on their own". A broadcast from Yorschev Jreznik, head of the Latkujvian Fire Department told reporters after receiving the news of increasing number of bush fires in the state: "The emergency fire services want to remind all citizens to report bush fires, but do not try to handle the fires yourselves and stay safe".

"Priceless Museum Artifacts Stolen"

Image

Last night, several thieves broke into the Vvardeni National Museum
and made off with several priceless artifacts important to Vvarden's
history, such as the death mask of Emperor Timsar Yahahul Kutebas
Uldin, 3rd Emperor of the Uldinic Empire, and an intermediate
period vase made out of gold. Police are currently pursuing any
leads as to the identity of the perpetrators and the location of the
priceless artifacts.

Isolation Ends

After five years of isolation following the creation of the Restored Oligarchic Senate of Vvarden, the Grand Speaker has announced an official end to the controversial "Self-Improvement Period", which mostly focused on overhauling Vvarden's entire political system to create a democratic system of government that represents the people and guides Vvarden depending on the people's needs. The "Self-Improvement Period" was first put into place when the Restored Oligarchic Senate came into being, when Revthyn Odurinil tried to continue the dictatorship that his predecessor Ineyan Samaendas built, but he eventually caved in to political and public pressure and the people elected the current Grand Speaker Ralos Nivastar Drulonil tred Zorosh in his place. The Grand Speaker put this period in place to protect Vvarden, which was only united under Ineyan Samaendas' fist, to stop it from disintegrating into several smaller states once again. Now that the isolation has ended, the Grand Speaker has announced a new era for Vvarden, a global era in which Vvarden shall take its place among the nations of the world and participate in many international events for the first time. The Grand Speaker has already proposed meeting with several international leaders and has offered the creation of embassies within Vvarden. Schadalnehmisch Freiheit Demonstration in Saadalnim Draws Over Two Thousand

A recent demonstration by the Schadalnehmisch Freiheit has drawn over two thousand attendess, peacefully campaigning for the independence of Saadalnim. Saadalnim was originally vassalised by the Almannic Empire following the fall of the Venerable Empire, and made into a Grand Duchy. The Grand Duchy of Ostvard, also known as Vardischland, became Almannised and a hybrid culture was created. When the Almannic Empire fell, the Grand Duchy fell as well, and for many years was under minority Vvardeni rule. The current head of the Schadalnehmisch Freiheit, Friso Innläm, also known in his Vvardenised name as Fethros Inlaem, has called for the issue of Saadalnimic Independence to be discussed within the Senate and for a referendum to be announced. The Grand Speaker made a promise to Friso several months ago when they met that upon the ending of Vvardeni isolationism, referendums will be held. The Grand Speaker has officially guaranteed a referendum for the fate of Saadalnim, and he has informed the Senate that it will take place in two months.

Cave Murals Uncovered In Vvarden's North

In the southern hills of Rovomalvel, Vvarden's northernmost province, a discovery was made by several esteemed archaeologists who were searching for ruins and relics of the Venerable Empire, a sealed cave filled with paintings and documents pertaining to the reign of Camoran I, great-great grandson of Ralos I, legendary founder of the Venerable Empire. Several paintings on the walls of the cave illustrate court affairs such as envoys bearing gifts to the Emperor, and priests writing documents at their desks. The find is estimated to give a greater understanding of everyday life in the early-middle period of the Venerable Empire, something which before was only speculated about. The cave is estimated to take several weeks to fully examine, and has already been seen by many historians within Vvarden as a valuable, and priceless time capsule into Vvarden's past.

More news updates will occur shortly.

NEWREY FORCES IN BATTLE FOR SURVIVAL!
Almund Redson, War Correspondent in Johka

Prior the arrival and launching of the Coalition's main assault on Johkan shores, the Newreyan delegation, with assistance from our Aquidish allies, were sent in a diversionary attack on the south-eastern coast, just north of the city of Nautsi. Having portrayed itself as the main landing force, the Newreyan force has experienced the brunt of fighting and resistance during the invasion, with only half of our forces successfully making landfall, experiencing heavy casualties during the attack.

The attack began at nightfall, following a short but powerful naval and air bombardment. Launching from the amphibious carriers HMS Daring, HMS Deceitful, and HMS Dreadnought, the forces experienced heavy resistance from the moment of landing. However, as the warrior spirit of the Newrey shone through, they were able to successfully force themselves ashore, against the overwhelming odds, acting like the force almost triple its size that landed in Unari. The comradeship and defiance of the Newreyan soldier also laid itself bare, with many of the injured and dead soldiers being successfully transported back to the Fleet, despite the heavy fire and difficult tactical position. Speaking of the performance of the Newreyans, Field Admiral Joseph Beckingcourt said;

'Their display of stubbornness and determination is an example for the entire Coalition to set itself by, facing odds stacked significantly against them, yet still able to force themselves ashore and into a favourable position. We've received a number of commendation requests from Newreyan field officers, further cementing the ability and bravery of the Newreyan soldier. The securing of a pocket near Nautsi has lead to the distraction of a number of Johkan units, lightening the load that the Main Force are facing. Regrettably, the attack has had a significant toll on our men, having experienced casualties in the hundreds. I can assure you, those that have been killed will be remembered and those that have survived will be celebrated.

Official numbers have place the total casualties of 203 killed and 342 injured, out of an initial landing force of 2,500. With the numbers of combatants expected to rise, it is likely that we will experience a shocking rise in casualties for the Pocket.

Newrey criticises CPSN's moves

With the announcement that the Community of Pan-Slavic Nations (CPSN) would begin sending humanitarian airdrops to the Johkan civilians affected by the war, the Newreyan Witenagemot was quick to criticise the move, stating 'While it is honourable for them to begin sending airdrops, doing so during the middle of a military conflict is essentially inviting an accident that could lead to escalation', claiming that sending the aircraft to civilian centres is only possible by flying over active combat zones and a no-fly zone that has been established. The Witenagemot confirmed that they would only allow Coalition aircraft to traverse safely through the airspace and would seek to escort the humanitarian aircraft out of the area, instead advising that '[The CPSN] should put off trying to become an international player with this move and instead wait until after the fighting has ceased to send humanitarian aid'

CPSN Stands Firm On Aid To Jokha Amidst Newreyan Criticism
6 May 2017

Newrey's open criticism of the CPSN's decision to send humanitarian aid to war-torn Jokha earlier today saw President Lev organising a debate to discuss on the decision to send aid over to Jokha. The debate saw the President swarmed by reporters upon leaving the council building. The President gave a brief summary of the debate: "Due to recent discouragement from certain nations, we held the debate to see if we needed to rethink sending aid" "However, we find that waiting until later to send aid is as good as leaving hundreds of people to die. There are diseased, wounded and famished due to the war... without the presence of proper healthcare and medical facilities, there is very little hope that these people can last till the war is over". The President also commented on Newrey "having contributed to the military conflict, has already escalated the situation" and questions whether they can really "criticise our actions on the premise of resulting conflict escalation". He concluded saying that the CPSN appeals to the Coalition to allow its aid to be flown through the Jokhan airspace to supply its citizens with necessary food, water and medical supplies to stem the current increase in civilian casualties. "If they deny such aid to the Jokhan people, they are condemning hundreds to die" said Zlatina Sderovky, leader of major CPSN human rights activist group Zenit ud Dallūs, in an interview this morning in response to the Newreyan statement.

Olla ó leste Policy announced

25/04/17

The Senate debates the policies
Today, a new governmental policy regarding trade and foreign investment has been announced. This policy, officially termed "Olla ó leste" meaning "Look East", shall underpin the national government's new trade policy and is expected to be voted on very soon. The recent straw poll conducted shows that there is a great amount of interest in the idea, and it is likely to pass senatorial vote.

The policy is structured into several areas. Firstly, it states that there shall be no question of Arzoa's place as a member of WACO. WACO brings prosperity to our national economy and closer relations with several neighbors who have important historical ties. However, the report Yates that the Asuran markets are stable. Strong, but stable. There is less potential for development in Asuran markets than in the less developed Catai markets. Therefore, there shall be a greater amount of investment and trade with Catai nations.

Two nations in particular have been identified for expansion. These nations are Ternca, which has a large economy and imports that are necessary to our nation, and Valatin. Valatin was the nation that caused the most interest. A former Arzoan colony, Valatin was given independence in the 20th century. The nation has an economy that has been deemed perfect for expansion into. While the Left Alliance called the singling out of Valatin neo-colonialism, most Arzoans feel a connection with the island and are happy to invest in it. It is regarded by many a the Catai powerhouse, so it is expected this will bring growth to Arzoa.

The policy has been popular with the Arzoan Policy Research Institute, a non profit policy research institution that focuses on economic affairs. They claimed that the policy is sound and a good step in the right direction. As there is an election approaching and the National Paty is slowly flagging behind the new directional Left Alliance, Caldas is trying to create an economic growth that will allow his party to win.

Spence Redirects Interceptors

Sir Richard Spence, the Air Marshal of Sagite and commander of the Coalition air forces, has redirected a large force of Coalition interceptors to prevent the reinforcement of the Johkan air force by Torroso. As the news broke that Torroso had deployed air forces to Johka Sir Richard immediately deployed jet fights on an intercept course; the Coalition forces have orders to signal the Torrosan pilots and order them to turn back, should they fail to do so they will be considered hostile and will be engaged. Sir Richard has sent an overwhelming force consisting of interceptors from multiple Coalition nations which should allow them to easily engage and destroy the Torrosan craft should this become necessary. "We will not allow the Torrosan government to reinforce their Johkan allies by placing a large number of military aircraft in their hands; Johka is a designated war zone and any attempt by know associates of Johka's regime to supply military equipment to them will be met as a hostile act. I make no secret of the orders that have been issued to the air forces under my command, and I have also request naval assistance in this undertaking."

The redeployment of interceptors to the east to block Torrosan reinforcements will have an impact upon the air campaign against Johka, but only for a short time; only the high speed craft designed for aerial engagement and combat have been sent, while multirole and support craft remain in the Johkan theatre to continue the prosecution of the war. Sagite's interceptors are principally purchased from the Lhaeraidh firm Hawker Aeronautics, and are considered to be one of the five best interceptors in the world, alongside Oser, Midrasian, Terncan, and Newreyan designs. The fact that Midrasian and Newreyan air forces will be going in support of the Sagitean interceptor force means that Torroso's airmen will be facing off against three of the most advanced jet interceptors in the world, piloted by highly skilled and motivated crews flush from the air victories over Johka. Not only does the Interception Strike Team have a technical edge it also outnumbers the Torrosan force by two to one, and is supported by ships and support aircraft capable of refuelling and resupplying the force on the move.

Air Support for the Pocket

After the desperate situation of Newreyan forces near Nautsi became clear it became imperative to offer some relief. In an effort to ease the Newreyan situation without compromising the assaults of ground forces elsewhere in Johka Sir Richard Spence has deployed the Sagitean carrier group southwards so that they can provide close air support to the Newreyan forces which have struggled ashore. From attack helicopters to the devastating support bombardments of high altitude weapon platform planes, and even a small number of multirole jets, the Air Marshal is determined to provide support which can be coordinated from the ground by Newreyan officers for maximum effect. This combined with the deployment of the IST against Torrosan efforts to reinforce the Johkans has left the air forces elsewhere in the theatre somewhat depleted which means that air crews are having to work double shifts in order to keep up the pressure.

The air war over Johka has lost that carefree steady as she goes atmosphere; airfields and carriers are now abuzz with activity, down time has been reduced, and pilots are being tested to their limits in order to provide the maximum possible level of air support across the entire campaign. Sagite's own air forces are actively engaged in all three of the major air operations of the war; from Phase Two in the north, to the Newreyan relief effort in the southeast, and the IST to the far east of the ocean. Gone are the regularly scheduled launches, replaced by a constant action akin to a revolving door; as one flight lands another takes off, rather than jumping out for a rest pilots wait in their planes while they are refuelled, rearmed, checked over, and sent off again with clockwork timing.

In order to aid the Newreyans two of the Sagitean air force's five Skyhammer gunships are presently deployed in the southern theatre, raining down hideously accurate artillery fire from their deadly 105mm howitzers, 40mm cannons, missile pods, and 20mm miniguns. Such airborne firepower is impossible to fully comprehend, much less appreciate, unless you can see it up close in action. Protected by a squadron of multirole jets each the Skyhammers must surely be a sight for sore eyes to the embattled Newreyan troops near Nautsi. Though each gunship can provide only a few minutes of support at a time the devastation that they can cause in that time is more than enough to swing a battle, and the aircraft's sophisticated missile defence systems keep it relatively safe from enemy fire.

Primary targets for Coalition air support to the Newreyan force are artillery positions and enemy airfields; in addition military bases, armouries, and fortified positions are being hit so as to soften up the Johkan military's ability to effectively hold the ground immediately surrounding the Newreyan pocket. It is hoped that despite the nature of the southeastern incursion as a diversion this renewed air assault will relieve some of the pressure on Newreyan forces so that more wounded can be evacuated to safety while the fight continues.

Síomha Praises Arzoan Policy

The Taoiseach, Mrs Síomha , has publicly praised the new policies of the Arzoan government during an interview on the popular political new program Llais! Though not a matter of official policy the praise offered by the Taoiseach indicates that her government is not concerned over the Arzoan desire to expand its economic frontiers, but rather wishes to encourage it. At present WACO has a number of key agreements, including a newly established friendship with the Asuran Community, however it is tir Lhaeraidd which holds the majority of the alliance’s major external treaties – something which has made other WACO members uncomfortable to say the least.

When asked by Llais! host and interviewer Morgan Lydell whether or not she felt that Arzoa’s policy shift signalled a move away from WACO in spite of their government’s assurances to the contrary Mrs Síomha responded; ”Not at all; Arzoa is the second largest WACO member, but also one of the weakest economically. While they have benefitted enormously from WACO and the agreements that come with it much progress remains to be made. This is not a signal that they wish to shed their association with Waco but rather a sign that they wish to strengthen their own position within the agreement. In this regard I can only offer my sincere good wishes, after all a stronger and more prosperous Arzoa means a stronger and more prosperous WACO.”

When asked whether this move would impact negatively on tir Lhaeraidd’s dominant economic position within WACO Síomha responded; ”I think that this is the wrong kind of thinking to be honest. While its true that tir Lhaeraidd is the dominant economic power within WACO the agreement was never meant to be a Lhaeraidh hegemony in any sense. While under the rule of an Absolute Monarch a hegemony of sorts was difficult to avoid, because of the way the country was run, but now that we have democracy this no longer needs to be the case. Should tir Lhaeraidd remain a key player in WACO affairs? Certainly; but not at the cost of the other nations within the alliance.”

“Arzoa has every right to seek its own agreements and make investments where it will. It all benefits WACO as a whole in the end anyway, since we are a cooperative organisation. Trade flowing through us benefits Crylante, Navack, and Arzoa; likewise trade following into Arzoa means the same. The merchant may have a different face and language, but in the end the people who benefit are on the same side. Arzoa is a good friend to tir Lhaeraidd and these new policies only demonstrate this fact further; they are seeking new markets for themselves, which in turn makes it easier for other WACO members to expand into the markets that Arzoa has created.”

“The kind of thinking which views this economic progress on the part of Arzoa as a possible threat is exactly the kind of thinking which led us into the Great War over a century ago. Our nation vowed its neutrality after that, and with good reason, because we understood that war and petty rivalries were good for no-one. I think that the fact that Arzoa is taking the initiative should be praised and encouraged, not hampered or criticised.”

Síomha’s critics however have described this attitude as complacent and negligent. Up to this point tir Lhaeraidd had a virtual monopoly on most areas of trade an investment between WACO and Ternca, but refusing to act to mitigate Arzoa’s efforts this monopoly they claim would surely be broken. Others raise concerns that Arzoa will start trying to usurp Lhaeraidh trading deals and deprive Lhaeraidh business interests of opportunities. Síomha however seems confident that a good deal for Arzoa means a good deal for tir Lhaeraidd.

Hawker Aeronautics and Brenner Ballistics See Increased Sales

As the war in Johka heats up two major Lhaeraidh arms manufacturers, Hawker Aeronautics and Brenner Ballistics, are reporting increasing sales over the past month and an increase in overall profits as they receive royalties on war materiel. The sudden surge is unsurprising given the sheer scale of the war in Johka and a hugely resource intensive campaign, and though the two major manufacturers are hardly the only ones to see such profit increases they are the two largest examples.

Hawker Aeronautics provides the Sagitean air force with most of its planes, and is responsible for a number of key supply contracts. Meanwhile Brenner Ballistics receives royalties for Sagite’s use of arms designed by the firm, and actively sells cruise and other long range missiles to their armed forces. Regardless of the nature of the profit increases the global demand for weapons and munitions is at its highest point in some time as tensions rise and smaller nations start to feel the need for an increased defensive posture.

Most Asuran nations manufacture their own military equipment, either through their own domestic companies or through state run enterprises; however they do not always go domestic on arms and equipment design, meaning that there is a healthy market for the design of new weapons and equipment. Not only this but beyond Asura there is a very real demand for arms; unable to support a domestic weapons industry pseudo-nations such as the PRA or PDRS rely upon imports, while other countries allow foreign manufacturers to establish factories for local military supply.

The combined hunger of the Johkan War and Fourth Brush War for munitions is such that there is likely to be a bonanza in ammunition purchases in the near future, further the need for replacement parts and repair kits is likely to grow.

Jenný Anadottir shows an interest in trade with Vvarden

After just a month in her office as Director of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ms. Anadottir has already dealt with the Johkan crisis through a severe condemnation of the government's genocidal policies and the embargoing of trade with the Frigidarum nation. Now, today, in a press conference in Nebligen, the 31-year-old has announced her intention to work together with the newly-open nation of Vvarden, in Renneka, to secure a mutually beneficial trade deal. She stated that "the Vvardeni nation is a stable nation, with many natural resources that could be very beneficial to the advancement of the Federation" and that the Crylantian Federation could "export its signature luxury goods such as jewelry and chocolate to the nation, leading to a good, mutually beneficial deal."

She also praised "the special bond between the four nations of Arzoa, Crylante, Navack and tir Lhaeraidd, signed within the treaties of WACO" and said that she would "seek to uphold the bond with all [her] effort", when a journalist from the agrarian tabloid Den Ged asked her about her views on WACO. She also said that "from a defensive point of view it makes sense to preserve our bond; this agreement we have helps define and uphold the neutrality of the Crylantian Federation".

She also offered support for the recent policy of investing in Catai that was passed within Arzoa, stating that "Catai includes many developing nations", and that therefore "a trade agreement which benefits both sides and protects the rights of the workers in both countries" would be a "great step forward".

Royalists out of power; Coalition government forms

By: Aristo Scelfo
Torden, Aquidneck - The center-right Royalist government has fallen and a new progressive-liberal coalition has risen to take its place. Prime Minister David Corbett tendered his resignation to the King this morning. The Royalists won only 100 seats compared to the 156 seats they once held. No party outright won a majority of the 309 seats needed to control the Senate, so the scramble to build a coalition ensued. After a few days it seemed clear that the Royalists were not going to be able to command a majority, leading to the Prime Minister's resignation.

Senator Ruperto Petrillo, Leader of the Progressive Party, was asked by the King to form a government in his name at Sandor Palace, shortly after former Primer Minister Corbett left. The Progressive Party managed to be the largest party in the Senate with 119 seats, but still managed to lose 4 seats this election. Their junior coalition partners, the Liberal Party, had a spectacular election increasing their representation in the Senate from 23 members to 79 members. The coalition 198 senators strong is enough to command the confidence of the Senate and form a government.

Negotiations over the cabinet continued for several days, but a final list has been released to the public. The newly created Deputy Prime Minister position was announced for Senator Renata Panzera, who is the head of the Liberal Party. Senator Panzera will also serve as the Minister of Defense. Liberals will also hold the Minister of Education, Science, & Technology; Minister of Environment & Agriculture; Minister of Local Communities & Governments; and the Minister of Oceans & Fisheries posts. The remaining political posts will be filled by members of the Progressive Party. The four nonpartisan appointed seats will not change.

The Greens saw themselves pick up one seat making their total 6. The Republicans also picked up a seat for a total of 3. There were two independent members elected, one of which was Speaker Alessandro Forte, who will serve again.

Military Placed on High Alert
Ilan ben Moshe Chafon

The military has been placed on maximum peacetime readiness and the regions near the border with Torroso have been reinforced following Torroso's decision to send military aid to the genocidal regime of Johka. Despite a statement from the Torrosoans that the aim is "not to stir up international relations", the King and Knesset have expressed grave concerns over the nation's alliance with the likes of Tarasanovia and Saraibia, and talk of "bringing unity to Arabekh".

King Isaac, speaking to military commanders in Yam-Yaroq this week, stated that "while peace remains far preferable to war for Hipasia, the rhetoric of our neighbours of late has suggested that they are of a differing opinion. We must ensure that we are fully prepared for any eventuality, including an invasion by Torroso."

Sources close to the King suggest the decision was largely motivated by the lack of a response from Torroso following an earlier attempt at outreach, after the coup which saw Augustin Gessius seize power. Both the King and Prime Minister Lavan have reiterated their desire for dialogue with Gessius.

Tat Aluf Simon Laverta of the Qantilah Legion has stated that most civilians will not notice any difference, although there may be a greater concentration of active soldiers in northern regions, including around his own base in Tel Hai. Forces from the Desert Legion and the artillery group Hedraam have been redeployed to near the Torrosoan border.

The Prime Minister today urged citizens to remain calm, as conflict remains only a remote possibility. But some citizens Haerev spoke with in the capital were worried. We spoke with Yaron, an engineer, who told us: "they say a war is a remote possibility, and not at all likely, but surely they wouldn't be readying the military like this if they didn't think it was more than that? I worry not just for those I know who are in the military, but for how this could affect all of us."

National News Summary

Government Reaches out to Vvarden

The Foreign Office has today confirmed that the government will be reaching out to Vvarden in a move parallel to that of Crylante in an effort to build mutual trading relations and hopefully strengthen the economic ties between WACO and Vvarden. The central Rennekkan nation has up to now pursued an isolationist policy, but with recent developments has chosen to open itself up to the world; a large nation with a population of around eighty million people, Vvarden has a modest economy but a wealth of natural resources and economic potential. Additionally its geographic location makes it an ideal party in the de facto WACO trading lane running through the centre of the continent and around its coastline.

Any prospective agreement with Vvarden would need to include the key clauses which protect the interests of each individual WACO member; in other words the treaty would need to be constructed in such a way that is does not contradict or hinder the treaties or future treaties that other WACO member states may form with them. Typically this means that Lhaeraidh treaties with foreign powers take a standardised form with specifics amended as necessary; really very little has changed with regards to Lhaeraidh foreign policy since the 1980s when WACO was first formed between tir Lhaeraidd and Arzoa. Whatever the form it takes joining Crylante in its endeavour to be part of Vvarden's entry onto the world stage is critical in that it shows the tir Lhaeraidd is of a like mind with Crylante, and that WACO as a whole is prepared to welcome the Vvardeni people.

But what is it that tir Lhaeraidd has that Vvarden would want, and indeed, vice versa? Most of tir Lhaeraidd's industries are heavily specialised, geared towards the manufacture of intricate and precise machinery and parts, often of a highly technical nature. Such devices and parts are critical for any nation hoping to develop its economy and build its own domestic manufacturing base. The kinds of technologically advanced items produced by tir Lhaeraidd are difficult to replicate accurately without the correct equipment and expertise, and when properly used can significantly boost manufacturing and infrastructural efficiency. What the Síomha government hopes to obtain in exchange is a deal on the purchasing and importing of mineral resources both raw and refined, with a particular interest in copper, in addition the demand for timber from trees native to Rennekka is at an all time high thanks to the growth of tir Lhaeraidd's luxury furniture industry.

However it seems that physical materials are not the only commodity that tir Lhaeraidd is prepared to offer; little is known about the Vvardeni education system or the quality of their graduate students, however long periods of isolation tend to lead to stagnation in this regard. For this reason, and others, the Foreign Office seems keen to organise a clauses to the agreement which would allow Vvardeni students to benefit from the competitive, world class educational centres which tir Lhaeraidd has to offer. Not only this but there are hopes that educational and cultural exchanges could allow Lhaeraidh students to visit Vvarden to learn more about the reclusive country and its society.

All of this remains highly speculative at this point however; the Foreign Office does not yet know whether or not the Vvardeni will be receptive to the diplomatic advances they have made so far, much less the offer of a meeting. Even so the diplomatic corps is on standby ready for mobilisation on a charm offensive, a diplomatic agreement with Vvarden especially one made that parallels the efforts of our ally Crylante, would be a huge achievement for the newly elective government as the first positive diplomatic effort to have been made.

Economic Victory, Crylante to Reap Rewards

An event being described by the government as an "Economic Victory" promises to create a major influx of profits to Crylantean confectioners and hopefully bring a boost to jobs in both Crylante and tir Lhaeraidd. The victory in question is the government brokered agreement which gives two major Crylantean confectionary manufacturers the rights to produce trademarked Lhaeraidh brands for sale in non-Asuran markets. What this essentially means is that the as yet unnamed Crylantean confectionary companies own the production and distribution rights, and as such they will make and sell these brands in markets outside Asura.

The Lhaeraidh brands in question are Préimh Dhéiríochta, better known internationally by its Siarad name Dairy Premium, which is a mass market brand; and Caer Brenin, or Kingsfort which is a well known boiled and gelatine based confectionary brand. While domestic production, and production for sale in Asura will remain in the hands of Twyfyr’s (the company that owns the brands) the two Crylantean companies will now be producing their own product under this brand for mass market consumption abroad. While the Twyfyr’s brand is not considered to be a premium artisanal one comparable to most Crylantean brands, it is a popular mass market brand.

Twyfyr’s clearly hope that by gaining an association with the Crylantean confectionary industry, in particular their famous chocolate exports, that they will be able to raise their own brand profile. Meanwhile the two Crylantean companies are clearly looking for a product that can be cheaply mass produced so as to increase profit margins without impacting upon their own reputation for excellence.

Crylantean chocolate has been famous around the world for decades for its quality and its variety, and it was in Crylante that the modern artisanal chocolate industry first took off; since then other brands overseas have tried to compete but so far none have succeeded within Lhaeraidh markets. Meanwhile domestic Lhaeraidh brands have been successful on the mass consumer market, but have never achieved the same reputation for quality and taste as Crylantean alternatives; nevertheless recent expansion in demand overseas means that they are hoping to expand their brand reach.

The upshot of the deal is that Crylantean confectioners will need to expand their manufacturing and distribution infrastructure in order to meet mass market demand, which means more jobs and more money for the Crylantean economy. This is something that both Twyfyr’s and the Lhaeraidh government have offered to invest in, which equals cold hard cash for Crylante’s businesses.

The outskirts of Argiropolis were shaken by gunfire today as an a joint force of Police Special Forces and Army stormed a compound that locals reported was used as a hiding place for the Alistan Liberation Army, the terrorist organisation seeking to make the Southern Chalcian province of Ermia (also known as Alistan) to secede from the Republic and form its own state. After the EKAM (Police SF) force sent here met heavy gunfire, a platoon from the 78th Mechanised Infantry Battalion based nearby was sent to reinforce them, and after roughly 10 minutes, the security forces had entered and secured the compound, killing four insurgents and capturing three in the process. Two EKAM operatives and two Army servicemen suffered minor injuries, with Army Corporal I. Georgiou being heavily injured in the left leg by gunfire. Corporal Georgiou was treated by medics on the scene and later evacuated to the 78th MIB's base hospital where he has been stabilised and is now safe.

Inside the compound, government forces found large numbers of weaponry, mainly HK G3, FN FAL and AK series rifles, but also heavier equipment such as PK machine guns and RPG rocket launchers. Police reports state that an unspecified number of explosive charges and IEDs was also found, hidden in a secret compartment that was uncovered by police dogs. Furthermore, security forces also seized a large number of propaganda fliers and CD, which are said to encourage ALA members and sympathisers to "Take up arms against the Chalcian occupiers in the name of God and Alistan". The perimetre around the compound where the fight took place was secured, although our reporters on the scene managed to take photos of the captured ALA fighters (one displayed above), but were then told to stay outside the perimetre. The Army platoon stayed in the area for two more hours until more police reinforcements arrived and they could finally retire back to base.

In a written statement to the public earlier today, Minister of National Defence, Mr. Alexandros Skliros said "Today our Armed Forces and Police Force proved they can rely on each other and cooperate in times of need. Both services exist to serve and protect the Chalcian people, and this is what they demonstrated together. Let this be an example to all those who want to divide the Chalcian people by force."

National News Summary

West Asuran Rail Upgrade Update

The West Asuran Rail Upgrade also referred to as the West Asuran Rail Network is a large scale infrastructural upgrade to the rail networks within WACO member states. The project has been funded primarily through WACO revenues, but has also received a significant among of private investment from companies internationally. Originally proposed by the government under Teyrn Bedwyr prior to the institution of the Constitutional Reforms, the project has been continued by the Síomha administration in keeping with ongoing WACO policy. Mrs Síomha herself has made generally favourable comments with relation to the WARU, both since coming to office and previously as a government Minister.

Obviously the main goal of the WARU is to replace ageing rail infrastructure and improve the transport infrastructure of WACO nations, however the project has three other key benefits. First, and perhaps most importantly to Mrs Síomha‘s new government, is the fact that the project is creating thousands of jobs nationwide and across WACO, which positively impacts upon employment figures and the economy. The second is that the rail infrastructure of the WACO member states will now be standardised allowing a passenger to travel from the northernmost point in tir Lhaeraidd to the southern tip of Arzoa without ever having to switch trains. The third benefit is the sheer volume of money being made by private enterprises from the project which will have a clear and tangible effect on WACO economies.

A key point of discussion that has been raised numerous times is that the WARU network would be divided into two networks by the sheer fact of geography. At this point a direct rail link by bridge or tunnel between tir Lhaeraidd and Crylante is simply not possible, and though there is talk of a tunnel proposal being offered to Oserland, this is far from ideal since Oserland is a member of the neighbouring Asuran Community, rather than WACO. Regardless it was agreed that in the spirit of the alliance it would be best to use standardised dimensions and technologies in building the network.

The WARU itself uses a heavily developed and cutting edge design based upon existing high speed rail links found in Crylante and around Aurharbwr in tir Lhaeraidd. The system replaces the traditional tracks with powered lines that allow for a wholly different method of propulsion and far greater speeds, while still retaining a level of safety equal, if not better than, that which is presently the norm. On a technical level these trains defy gravity through the use of powerful electro-magnets and use technology far in advance of what has been deployed elsewhere, even in countries which already have maglev lines. The scale of WARU makes it the biggest maglev development and rail network in the world to date.

But why is WARU being viewed as being so important, and why is so much money going into it? Well as far as the Lhaeraidh government is concerned the answer is simple; increase the speed and efficiency of the rail network and you increase its overall capacity exponentially. Increased capacity means more goods and people can be transported more easily, in less time, and more often. To sum it up in but a few word, a better rail network means a better economy. The transit of goods through Asura is an expensive and time consuming process, sea trade of course transports a huge among of cargo in and out of Asura as the ports at Aurharbwr, Caer Taeryn, and Canmyr-Weidhal attest, but the goods must first be transported from their point of origin to these ports and in the case of pan-Asuran trade it is often just as well to ship goods overland.

The entire network is expected to be operational at some point in 2020, however it was today announced that the section running between Aurharbwr and the capital, Neuaddduwiau, would be complete by the end of June and would begin with its inaugural trips back and forth in early July. This is a monumental achievement to have been made, especially given the time frame in which it has been achieved; though the engineers would tell you that in technical terms the feat was not all that difficult given the relatively flat and open land they had to contend with.

So what does the future hold for WARU? Well the word around the Foreign Office seems to be that there are tentative discussions being held with AC member states with the intention of extending the WARU to link up with a pan-Asuran network. A project like this would of course be immensely expensive and nations such as Midrasia which already have ‘High Speed’ rail lines (not to be confused with the Hyper Speed lines of the WARU) may yet question the need for such investment. However initial feelers definitely seem to be positive, and the Terncan government seems to also be eager to see this done if only to provide a link into Asura for its own New Jade Road Initiative.

Princess Gwynyth In The Spotlight

The heir to the throne and eldest daughter of Teyrn Bedwyr XVI, Gwynyth, is in the spotlight today thanks to her attendance at the annual Awrharbwr Fashion For Philanthropy Gala. Princess Gwynyth who is 15, will be the first female monarch of tir Lhaeraidd since its unification in 899, and may join the likes of Breda and the Taoiseach as a great woman in Lhaeraidh history. The young princess is enormously popular within tir Lhaeraidd and enjoys an approval rating even greater than that of her father who is widely revered for his decision to allow the reformation of the Lhaeraidh government along democratic lines.

Princess Gwynyth attended the Gala wearing a modest but stylish gown designed specially for her by famous women’s fashion designer Edwyrd Lyrough who once worked for the Tyning Fashion House in Caer Dunn. Lyrough has previously designed gowns and outfits for prominent film stars and musicians and is well known for his ‘simple chic’ approach to designs. No doubt he will be receiving the royal seal of approval after producing such a memorable gown.

The Princess is well known for her acts of philanthropy, and she has previously donated significant sums of money to various charities, in particular those helping children with terminal illnesses. As an advocate and spokeswoman she cuts a fine figure, with her refined manner and classically inspired education she is the ideal public speaker; her passion for helping the less fortunate also doubtless helps. But perhaps her greatest appeal is her relatable and approachable manner; while stories of her father’s informality have been passed down second hand from various sources with Princess Gwynyth the public have seen it first hand whenever she goes out to meet the public.

The few and far between the interviews that she has agreed to have all shown her to be a confident and erudite young woman, yet also one who is remarkably down to earth in spite of her privileged position. All of this has shown through today at the opening event of the Gala when she openly approached well wishes and members of the public and spoke directly and at length with those present who represented those who have benefitted from her charitable work.

City Construction Starts
Image

Construction has started for the city of Relsdran, planned to be
built near the southern Rohstian border. The basic municipalities
and services of Relsdran is estimated to be built within five years.
The city is being built to help cope with the current population
boom as more Vvardeni started having several children.
Several prominent Saadalnimic politicians have denounced the
construction, calling it
"An attempt to colonise Schadalnehm
and to infiltrate Vvardeni values into Schadalnehmisch society."

Senator Dies

Senator Ulmthan Oriomo, an infamous campaigner for Vvardeni
irredentism has died at the age of seventy two from a major
heart attack. Ulmthan Oriomo first published his book, "A Song
For Vvarden's Lands", which called for the acquisition of
nearby lands considered to be Vvardeni, in 1989 and has since
gained a small following within the Senate. Many nationalist
groups within Vvarden are mourning his passing.

Senate Replies To Foreign Nations

After several messages and requests from many nations across Aeia were recently broadcasted to Vvarden, the Senate has decided to pursue closer relationships with those nations, as well as others. The Senate and the Grand Speaker have decided to send many skilled diplomats to the previously mentioned countries in order to facilitate friendly introductions and pave the way for Vvarden to globalize rapidly. The diplomats are as follows:

Wedekind Von Rotenburg
Rohst
Wedekind Von Rotenburg (Also known as Wedekind Rotonil) was born in Saadalnim to a mixed Vvardeni-Almannic family and rose to political prominence early in his life as he was among the first to call for diplomatic relations with Saadalnimic separatist groups. He is an avid fan of Saadanimic history and believes that Saadalnim is an integral piece of Vvarden, despite the different languages and customs. Always favoring diplomacy over hostility made Wedekind popular within the Senate, and eventually allowed him to be the Vvarden's first official diplomat to Rohst.

Beti Lletathram
Tir Lhaeraidd
Beti Lletathram was born and raised in Zoroshthurvan, where she studied to become a Counselor. Recently, however, she studied International Diplomacy. She also has a deep fascination for other ways of life and has learnt over twenty languages, including Lhaeraidh, Almannic and Midrasian, and this affinity has made her perfect to be the the Restored Oligarchic Senate's first official diplomat to Tir Lhaeraidd.

Thallasa Douthas
Midrasia
Senator Thallasa Douthas was born in Helovon, but moved to Zoroshthurvan a few years after her birth with her family, due to her father getting a job offer in the capital. A brilliant environmentalist, Douthas excelled in school, and has written a number of scientifically-renowned journals about agriculture and environmental preservation. She also made several improvements to Vvarden's systems of agriculture in harsh conditions, adapting the methods that the Venerable Empire had been using for centuries, greatly improving crop yields and production, earning her a place in the Senate. Her love for knowledge and improvements has allowed her to be the Restored Oligarchic Senate's first official diplomat to Midrasia.

Essu Iltunipitashu
Southern Novograd
Essu Iltunipitashu was born in Draahran to a migratory Vokun family, where he had lived practically almost all of his life. Iltunipitashu was frequently truant, and got in trouble for skipping the local schools, wherever they migrated to, on several occasions to help his parents hunt and build tents for other members of the tribe. Eventually, however, Essu opted to attend a specialty school for politics where he quickly demonstrated an incredible ability to negotiate and to lead under pressure. As a result, Essu became a prominent politician, which has allowed him to serve as the Senate's first official diplomat to Southern Novigrad.

Zirnniu Ulenrith
Aquidneck
Zirnniu Ulenrith was the son of a fisherman, and spent many years in his childhood helping his father catch fish and crabs on the southern shores of Vvarden. When the fishing business his father worked for had collapsed due to Ineyan Samaendas' interference, he spent all his money trying to rebuild the company and campaigned for Ineyan Samaendas' removal from power. This led to his family being harrassed and beaten by Ineyan's secret police and Zirnniu Ulenrith was arrested and tortured. Eventually he was freed via ransom and after Ineyan Samaendas' death, he became a key member of the Senate, campaigning for autonomy in businesses. Due to his experiences and his political skills he has been nominated as the first official diplomat to Aquidneck.

Ferovesa Thandel
Newrey
Ferovesa Thandel has lived most of her life in Zoroshthurvan, and is a key member of the Senate. She was born into a relatively rich family with key political connections, which by the time she had been born, had led to the collapse of the Thandel political empire. The Thandels originally were dictators of Orvamus before they were conquered, but they mainained a large degree of local power. Ferovesa took control of the family and reformed it, ending the corruption and decadence within the family and setting it on the road to recovery. Despite the rocky relationship with the Senate, Ferovesa Thandel has been chosen as the first Vvardeni diplomat to Newrey.

Jordan Adusethyl
Onza
Speaker Jordan Adusethyl was born in Orvamus to an Onzaian-Vvardeni couple, where he studied law and worked as a lawyer for the city for many years. He was ranked number two in the nation on a list of the 500 Greatest Lawyers, earning him a place in the senate. He was also an immensely popular writer for sometime for his political works on democratic socialism and Vvarden during it's history during the Intermediate period. His extensive ability to analyze data and debate has made him prominent in the senate, as well as qualifying him to serve as the Senate's first official diplomat to The United Democratic Emirates of Onza.

Other not mentioned diplomats have also been sent to unnamed nations in the hopes of setting up relations.

The Restored Senate of Vvarden has also officially responded to the offers from Tir Lhaeraidd about constructing efforts to build mutual trading relations, of which Vvarden will provide the raw goods of copper and timber. The Senate's team of diplomats to Tir Lhaeraidd, currently headed by Grand Ambassador Beti Lletathram, has also agreed to the educational exchange, and has offered to invite skilled teachers from Tir Lhaeraidd to help brush up Vvarden's educational system and help it embrace the world outside its borders. Grand Diplomat Lletathram has also proposed plans for educational and cultural exchanges that would allow Lhaeraidh students to visit Vvarden, and has spoke on it heavily to the point of exclaiming to the Senate that Tir Lhaeraidd, as an important power, should be made an ally of Vvarden. The Senate has plans to discuss any further changes depending on the Lhaeraidh reception. The Senate has also reacted to the Crylantian interest in Vvardeni trade, and has sent Ambassador Hlendyn Feddas in an effort to meet with the Crylantian Director of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Ms. Jenný Anadottir, and to secure a trade deal beneficial to both nations.

Vvarden Enters Aeiavision

Vvarden has declared an interest in entering Aeiavision as the coming date of the Semi-Final begins shortly, and has sent the renowned Vvardeni singer Eristhan Dalvevanni in an effort to enter the competition. Aeiavision first gained interest in Vvarden when the first contest was broadcasted to Vvardeni television, gaining a large internal audience. Now that Vvarden has officially opened up after a brief accommodation period, there are hopes that Vvarden might win or take one of the major stages in Aeiavision in order to show Vvarden to the world. The singer, Eristhan Dalvevanni, is twenty seven years old, and is a graduate of the Vvardeni University of the Arts, and has gained a large following with his songs, "The Light", "The Fall" and "Clouded Rain".

More news updates will occur shortly.

King Kani Returns
All Hail the King Now And Forever

Wai Apo - The Council of Chiefs and the family of our King were on the tarmac in tears today. The Royal Union Army stood at attention, ready to salute their fallen King as the doors of the plane slowly opened. Our King, Kani Lakanoka, has returned to lay in the Royal tombs of the Wai Apo Kings where the past Kings have been laid to rest. Leaders of the Royal Progressive Party fear the worst as shares of various Ajerr’i companies in global markets sank in overnight trading. Chief Nahalo, representing the Tongoni people, announced earlier today that a new Head of State will be chosen in a fortnight as per the 14 year-old constitution. Until then, the people of the Ajerri nation will mourn its fallen monarch for a period of 14 days until the Council chooses a new Head of State.

PARLIAMENT ANNOUNCES INVESTIGATION INTO PM

Image
Prime Minister Vauban was present in parliament during the debate of the bill earlier today

Lotrič, Midrasia - Today Midrasian MPs have officially voted to establish a commission to investigate the affairs of Prime Minister Charles Vauban and his cabinet. The vote saw the Liberal League officially break with its Social Democrat coalition partners to vote with the opposition. A number of PSD members of parliament also broke with the government to vote in favour of establishing the investigative committee. Parliamentary sources now suggest that the case has been handed over to the Intelligence services (Service de Renseignement National) which will conduct the investigation on behalf of the select committee which was also set up as part of the bill. The select committee will be cross-party, however will not feature any members of the current cabinet. MPs also attempted to submit a motion of no-confidence in the PM to the Assembly earlier today, however the bill failed to achieve sufficient sponsors to call a vote.

The bill particularly sought to investigate claims made by members of the hacker group Incognito that they had been arrested and interrogated by the Bureau of Investigation, an office which answers directly to the Prime Minister. Such actions would have been firmly unconstitutional, giving Parliament and the monarch due precedence to remove the PM from office. However, the lack of evidence has suggested that the claims made by the hacktivist group were merely attempts to garner support after their inability to follow up their claims of holding more evidence on the PMs affairs. Government spokesperson, Andrea Oualpole stated that the lack of evidence is "startling" and that parliament should not have "rushed into a decision, without sufficient cause to do so". The government specifically mandated that MPs vote against the bill, implementing a double-line whip. Despite this, 63 of the 79 Liberal members of the coalition voted in favour of the bill, with 6 abstaining. In terms of the Social Democrats, 32 members of the Assembly voted in favour of the investigation out of the party's 173 MPs. In the Senate, only 9 PSD senators voted for the bill, however this was still sufficient for it to pass. An attempt to filibuster the bill was blocked after a two-thirds majority was met. Widespread parliamentary support for the bill can be seen to match public concerns on the matter, with polls showing 72% of people in favour of a parliamentary investigation.

Regardless of the outcome of the investigation, the bill has demonstrated the key divide within the government, especially with the PSD's coalition partners the Liberals. Speaking to the Royal Standard earlier today, Liberal leader Jacques Magule stated that his party would not support any of the government's further plans for the last three-months of this parliamentary session, unless there is sufficient evidence to clear Vauban of any wrongdoing. The investigation has also seen the UDA, Socialists and LCLC jump in the polls, with many speculators suggesting the anti-corruption party could gain its first seat. Despite UDA leader Lucatiel Lorett's damning criticism of the government's response, the continuing divided nature of the UDA may see this years election be the most contentious in living memory.

MOD: War in Johka progressing as planned

By: Aristo Scelfo
Torden, Aquidneck - The Ministry of Defense has had their first press conference under the new Progressive-Liberal coalition government and so far things remain relatively the same. The war in Johka is progressing with Aquidish and Newreyan troops making their way further into the country from their south-eastern landing point. Casualities range in the hundreds for both the Aquidish and Newreyan forces, but the Ministry of Defense is saying that despite that the campaign is moving forward and achieving the objectives laid out by the international coalition.

The coalition has seen heavy resistance, particularly in the southern part of the country that Newrey and Aquidneck were responsible for. The two nation's naval fleets are stationed off the coast and provide air support and other assistance to the troops that have landed in the region. The soldiers have established an area of control and are working on expanding.

The Ministry of Defense has said that no names of the injured of deceased have been released yet due to some issues contacting next of kin. The ministry spokesperson said that injured people are being evacutated to safety for treatment and that the bodies of fallen Aquidish heroes will be brought back to Aquidneck for a proper burial. The spokesperson also commented that the Johkan Fund that has been set up to aid refugees has raised a significant amount of money and is already being dispensed to aid the refugees. The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have both confirmed that Johkan refugees will be landing in Aquidneck soon.

The Ministry of Defense has also called on CPSN to cease it's plans to send support to the people of Johka. A spokesperson for the ministry said "It is admirable what they are trying to do, but we cannot guarantee their safety as it is a war zone. If they want to help they should consider taking in some refugees fleeing the genocide and donating to the Johkan Fund that the Ministry of Finance has set up." The CPSN Ambassador has been summoned to the Foreign Affairs Ministry and these concerns have been explained to him.

New diplomat welcomed to Aquidneck

By:Sang-Kyu Sam
Torden, Aquidneck - King Matteo IV in his role as Head of State recieved the letter of credence that officially named Zirnniu Ulenrith as the first Ambassador from the Rennekkan nation of Vvarden. The ceremony was done in the East State Room of Sandor Palace with the full cabinet and most of the royal family in attendance, everyone was dressed in formal ceremonial clothing to welcome the new ambassador. Generally, these ceremonies are a low key affair with usually just the Ambassador, their family, the King, and a representative from the Foreign Ministry. However, a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Royal Household stated that since this is the first ambassador from Vvarden and they are just beginning to open up, a full ceremony was decided upon. Vvraden has been an isolationist nation and it is only very recently that they have announced their intentions to open up.

Ambassador Ulrenrith and his family entered the East State Room and handed the King his letter of credence from the Vvardeni government. The king accepted the letter and spoke to the ambassador briefly. The newly elected Prime Minister Ruperto Petrillo, the Deputy Prime Minister Renata Panzera, and the Foreign Affairs Minister Remo Mattei, each welcomed the new ambassador, before the Prime Minister made some remarks. The PM welcomed the ambassador and his family to Torden and expressed his hope that they enjoy their time in Aquidneck. He praised Ambassador Ulenrith's tenacity and courage as a reformer and activist in regards to the ambassador's work against the Samaendas Regime. The PM also mentioned the ambassador's background in fishing and welcomed the ambassador to try his hand in fishing in the Asur.

The Vvardeni embassy is located in downtown Torden in the historic Cardella neighborhood. Cardella is home to a great many embassies and diplomatic residences. It is located nearby the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and is only a few miles from Hewlett Palace and Sandor Palace. It is unknown is the Vvardeni plan on opening a consulate in Pale, the largest city in Aquidneck and home to the Aeian Public Health Organization. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs says it plans on opening an embassy in Vvarden soon and that the Minister has appointed Song-gi Tu as the Aquidish Ambassador to Vvarden. Ambassador Tu has worked as a career diplomatic officer for over twenty years and most recently served as Minister in the embassy in Rohst and is highly regarded as an expert in Rennekkan politics.

Scandal in Midrasia prompts action in Torden

By: Giulitta Tognetti
Lotrič, Midrasia - The Midrasian Prime Minister, Charles Vauban, has lost a vote which has set up an investigation into his recent actions. Midrasia has been rocked by massive protests against perceived corruption in the Vauban Government. So far the protests have largely been peaceful, but the Embassy in Lotrič is advising all Aquidish citizens to avoid the large crowds and not participate in any protests.

The vote set up an investigative committee to investigate Vauban's role, if any, in the arrest and interrogation of members of the hacker group Incognito. If true the claims would be seen as an abuse of power by the Prime Minister and members of his cabinet. However, some say the claims are baseless and that the hacker group is attempting to stay relevant and make waves. The Prime Minister's press secretary has refused to comment on the action saying that, "this is a domestic issue for Midrasia to handle. They do not need input from us on this matter." When asked about the hacker group Incognito the spokesperson said, "they are criminals, plain and simple. The hacking of government servers is a crime in Midrasia and in Aquidneck." When pushed for details and what they would do if an Aqudish citizen was found to be a part of the hacking the spokesperson said, "We'll cross that bridge when we get there. However, as it stands right now we have no evidence that any Aquidish citizens are involved in the Incognito hacking group."

The Ministry of Public Safety has issued a statement condemning the hacking group Inognito and has directed the Office of Internet Safety (OIS) to work to prevent hacking of Aquidish government and businesses. The office will work with businesses and other parts of the government in an information campaign on how to best protect yourself against common internet scams that can lead to hacking.

Royal Police Commissioner Sir Cristoforo Park held a press conference in which he stated that an investigation has been opened into the incognito hacking group and that Aquidish citizens may be involved. The conference was held only hours after the Prime Minister's spokesperson said that there was no evidence of Aquidish involvement in the group. Sir Park said he was open to working with his counterparts in Midrasia on this investigation as this group works across borders.
