Here is the way I see this thread running.

-Sign up and pick a character. You may use a different nation, from RL or another's with permission. For the purposes of storytelling, you'll takeover your character from the first day at their unit.
-Right away, I'll assign your character to a unit and send the first update. My updates are going to be brief on purpose so that you have room to expand. If you want more info, TG me and I'll tell you everything you want to know. Let's write together.
-After you get your update, you can RP on a separate thread. I'll try to assign characters where they can interact when possible.
-As far as pace, I'm thinking of this as a more laid-back thread. It's not about posting order or even writing every day. It's more of a collection of stories, in the style of sports RPs. Feel free to apply and just keep track of your character.
-My main rule is, don't change things at the unit. You're going to get assigned weapons and gear. It'll be more like the military where you get what you're handed as opposed to Call of Duty where you select a load-out.
-Note, you can join as an officer and have some say in your platoon. I want to share the unit, it's just going to stick to the original vision.
-As far as time, it'll go fairly real time for awhile, but there will be a time when we all jump time together. Probably to get to a specific event.
-I can respond to your RP as characters in the unit. Basically I want this to be a place where one can RP as much or as little as they want. If you want to RP every day, I'll be there with you. If you want to RP once a week based on an update, feel free.
-If you can think of a different MOS that should be in the unit, ask. I'll either point you to something similar or see if it can be added. Some I didn't add on purpose. If you aren't sure which MOS (job) to pick, TG me what you're interested in.

The first update is up as an example: viewtopic.php?f=4&t=380278

It's just listing basic info for the background and the next few days. Just enough to expand on. Some weeks would definitely come with more info, especially when exercises are run.

Updated the new character here: viewtopic.php?p=28967793#p28967793

Thanks for joining, both of you. Two of my favorite writers on here and best allies. I hope you have fun with the updates and that we can at least visualize these soldiers in the VFL. It should be an interesting project, no?

Nice! I look forward to it. I'll see if there is any way I can jump on, maybe as a minor character in your unit. Feel free to make up any characters that you need... Maybe even design a roster. I see this like a sports thread for some reason, something in the posting style. It's Esportiva's influence on me.

So one of the things that came up is the idea of a base soccer tournament. I'll come up with teams from all over the base. If you want your characters to be on the roster, or even want to RP, I can expand on it. If nothing else, I can mess with the scorinator and see where the scores fall. Practice for running a tournament someday. I'm guessing there would be a lot of NPC teams, artillery guys and stuff like that... Fuelers...

Those of you who write with me know I enjoy "real time sim" aspects in my RPs. So there will be updates coming up. It's been a year and a week or so. So let's see where these soldiers are after a year.

Also, re-opened to new candidates... Starting....

Now.

A new decades brings a new era to the VFL. I will probably start a conflict spinoff of the original thread, which admittedly never progressed far. People who join will likely deploy to the same conflict.

Muhammad Pathan has been accepted into officer’s training. He will leave at once and spend time in a rigid program designed to prepare him for life as an officer. He will need to learn to control his temper. His willingness to rush into a forward deployment zone is why he was accepted for officers’ school.

He will be considered for infantry or cavalry officer placement upon graduation. Stay tuned for updates.

Nicholas Fender is accepted into VFL officers’ training as a cadet of high esteem. The Vannish military looks favorably upon working with the MDB. Because of this, Fender is likely to rise high within the ranks of the VFL. He will serve under his preference of infantry officer.

Officer classes and reports will start soon. Both Fender and Pathan will likely learn which units they will be allocated to upon graduation.
