Yeah see, I think WVers should be less judgemental when no music is attached to a song (having seen some unsuccessful debut songs), as was done in the most earliest versions of WorldVision. Every time this happens, most of the time it's labelled as not good because it's 'a capella' or whatever. Just an observation. Maybe we should treat these kind of songs equally?

A good suggestion, fresh from WV27 and 28, is to describe the melodic and rhythmic qualities of the song, and to describe the composition and flow of the music if there is backing music. Acraddia did a good one in WV27, I think. Here it is.

Well, I mean 18 editions as a whole ... 15th Britonish Entry. And yes, I've been working very hard to make that achievable.

Edit: How many other people managed to get 2 of their own nations (puppet and main) in the top-5 before?

Perhaps it is more helpful/encouraging/less restricting to send a song like that. Not everyone has time to fit songs to lyrics, etc. I like Acraddia's song a lot (and it did fairly well in that contest -- but perhaps it wouldn't in these new style of contests). It's a view I've just developed recently, because I know just a few editions ago I really didn't like those 'a capella' style songs.

Don't think that's happened before in recent memory. Although, Electrum and EDO have come in the top 10 in the same edition before (39 and 46)

In one of my visits back in time I was sure earlier editions of WV actually didn't feature tunes at all. I went back to take a look and...
  • First and foremost, yes, they didn't use tunes back then
  • In one of the entries, someone gave birth on stage
  • There was a blatant rip-off of the most recent winner at the time, Hard Rock Hallelujah. It was disqualified.
  • Controversy erupted only 2 songs in. Most of the RP occurred backstage
  • Zwangzug, the country currently with the most WV entries, was also the first country (other than host Swilatia) to sign up

Yeah, backstage rp would be cool. Also, I would like to see (some) old entries style, but I do like the way it works at the moment as well. So, I would be open to acapella, I don't want too much to be acapella.

I can confirm that I will be bidding for the 50th edition of Worldvision, assuming that it falls in a decent period of time for me to do so ( I am very limited for time July + August, so I guess it depends on when it is), and if not, the edition that falls after that.

WORLDVISION SONG CONTEST XLVIII

Union City, Orion Islands
2016

Union City hopes to be your host for Worldvision XLVIII. The city was founded by Captain James Cook after his voyages of discovery in the Pacific in 1787. 100 settlers disembarked and raised the Union Jack, hence the name. The city got rich in its culture early on because all the outcasts across the Empire made their way to the tolerant lands of the British North Pacific. With all this, it became one of the most important colonies. France, hoping to expand French Orion, has twice invaded Union City, but the Royal Navy always saved the day. It survived WWII nearly intact and has been growing ever since. Long the heart of the British North Pacific, it was proclaimed the capital upon independence and unification. MacArthur Boulevard is known as the Broadway of Orion. Union City is the most diverse city on the island. With all this rich history and culture, Union City is the perfect place for Worldvision. To get in by air is easy. Their are over 27 airports with international reach in the Republic. Air Orion, the flag carrier, has service to over 450 destinations and has won the IATA awards for best airline in its region 7 years in a row. Fares start at $45. Orion Global is the nations second largest airline in the nation with service to 315 destinations and is the safest airline in the Asia-Pacific region. In addition, United, Delta, American, British, Iberia, KLM, QANTAS, and Air France also serve Union City International. Carnival Cruise Lines stops at Evans, only 47 miles from Union city. After or before Worldvision stop by the beaches of Santes Island or Orionville. Memorial has beautiful ski slopes. Central City is the stop for great theme parks. From the 10,000,000 people of Union City, to the 1 person in Little Place their is something in every city. We plan to host the contest at the 30,000 seat SageBird Arena. It is the current home of the Union City Eagles of the OBA and the Union City Senators of the OHL. The multi purpose arena is state of the art with great sound and video systems. At SageBird, expect no shortage of broadcast facilities. We also have an international broadcast center in the Union World Tower, just 13 minutes from SageBird. You're host will be Mary Sunrise. The event will be broadcast in the Orion Islands by the OBC (Orionite Broadcasting Corporation) and on the radio network VOI1 (Voice of the Orion Islands Radio Service 1)

Okay, so as I'm a newbie to this, maybe someone would enlighten me: what memorable highlights have there been in recent years?
I'd just like to see a couple of examples to inspire me for my own ideas :)
Pros: Peace, love, faith, intersectionality and vegetables. :)
Cons: Militarism, capitalism... Well, kyriarchy, basically.
"All things must come to the soul from its roots, from where it is planted." - St. Teresa of Avila
"Do something wonderful, people may imitate it." - Albert Schweitzer

Well. I would totally say that WorldVision's 36-41, had a lot of unique ideas...in my opinion. WorldVision 40 would be a great start!

That's modern WV History, though.

I think the one I hosted in WV34 was quite good, the standard of songs was really good too.

The opening act left a bit to be desired (primarily because I didn't expect to win so typed it down within about 10 minutes in a haste to get the IC thread up), but the good bits: the Missus Xian entry got censored by the mods (after which I added an explanation); I achieved my second-best result; N&P made their debut (amongst others); an interval act that I thought was rather good but garnered no commentary at all (it had Palladio in it!); a contest based on Fulham FC (at a time we were on a mini-revival) and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?; the contest wasn't interrupted by interviews and presenters; lots of voting commentary.

Ooh, reminds me of mine, in WV36. I was set on winning the host bid so I had everything planned out, and it all went smoothly, with plenty of commentary and good songs. I wanted to win the contest as well initially but then fell in love with Russadonia's entry and showered it with points. Also I felt that my opening and interval acts were bomb af and they generally received good reviews, I believe. Also still impressed by how good the graphics and the final results table came out, everything was smooth and clean (aside from my voting graphics admittedly). Also I actually did all of the postcards (a feat for any host) and linked commentary so that you could jump to any commentary segment you desired with a single click.

Casual link to WV36

Imagine Jon Ola Sand discussing with Christer Björkman and perhaps Martin Österdahl on whether to disqualify Ukraine or not, while other countries are still performing their songs. That was what the RP was like

I will participate this time. Meaning I can host.

If this is your first time participating, you can only bid for host next edition or later. In the meantime, watch how this edition is hosted and look at previous contests (or listen to us babble on about how great we were at hosting previous editions).

No, I haven't. I hope to use Worldvision as a way to improve my hosting and competition skills.

You must participate at least once to be eligible for hosting.

Sounds pretty cool.

I mean, given the format of today's contest it would probably be harder to put it in, but I would love to do that for this contest.
