WAR DECLARED

Following the assassination of Generalissimo Yălmaz Moyemettădă Gugoylu Lavaris by a PRA-backed Communist insurgent, tensions skyrocketed between the constituent states of Altar and a massive military buildup began on all sides. Today the GRA declared war on the PRA, RD, and FRS in response to the assassination.

Shortly before the declaration of war was going to be voted on in the Grand Council, representatives from the PRA, RD, and FRS walked out and declared total sovereignty from Altar. The legislature is now left with representatives from just the GRA, FRA, and ISA, though certain sources have indicated that the latter two may also attempt secession. The ISA's potential secession will be complicated by a nearly total lack of international support or recognition due to its ideological extremism and backing of international terrorist organisations such as al-Qariah. The FRA, despite having the smallest army and size, may be able to hold out for a great while longer with extensive international support and modern weaponry.

The GRA offensive was initially rapid and successful, though has now been halted.

Valdian Navy assets to conduct live fire training

The leadership of the Valdian Second Fleet, the current Valdian Home Fleet, has announced that it will be undertaking live-fire exercises in the Gulf of Cydonia.

Huda and Valdiu-based Merit-class destroyers will be sailing into the Gulf of Cydonia in order to conduct gunnery and missile exercises in international waters near the coast of Grozav Inima.
“All twenty-four destroyers from the Second and Third fleets will have the opportunity to fire guns and missiles at notional targets and target drones. Ships will operate in pairs, and there will be at least two pairs on station at all times. Sailors in pairs that are not actively training will have the option to engage in a swim call, or spend the day aboard their ship’s paired sister ship.”

Navy officials expect no trouble to come from the exercises, which they have described as ‘routine’.

The small island nation of Agualados, only a short 300km from the Grozyar independent territory of Csoportsag, has long grappled with economic hardships due to both geographic isolation, sanctions from Grozav Inima, and poor economical policies. The small nation has reportedly suffered from a massive 5% slump in GDP from the beginning of 2016. This quick dropoff in the economy of the small nation has been in a large part caused by government mismanagement of the economy and a slump in the price of oil. What this means for the 2,103,241 people living in Agualados is currently uncertain, but economists mean that those already struggling with low wages and high levels of inflation could result in many families being unable to feed themselves.

In addition to it's economic hardships, the government of Agualados has been waging a silent war against anti-communist guerillas which are backed by Grozav Inima among other nations. The insurgency has been stalling recently, and Agualadosian news programs report that the last week has met with success in arresting and executing hundreds of suspected members of the anti-communist group, the Agualadosian Republican Army (Grozyar: Agualadösán Köztársasereg).

Csoportsag has also reported its concerns when facing an increasing belligerent Agualados, and the Csoportsagi Independent Armed Services has been placed on high alert, and the Grozyar Minister of defence stated that hey would be deploying elements of the 1st Republican Guard Division to ensure the safety of Csoportsag.

At a midday gather of the High Council, reports say that the subject of Emperor Victor Kane II's replacement was approached and that Nicholas Kane, nephew of the Emperor, was the popular choice by the difference of a vote.

According to Nox Mynus insiders, the subject of a replacement for our current Emperor has been a common matter of discussion due to his rumored ill-health. With the recent rumors of cancer being a factor in his lessening public appearances, it's believed that the Council likely wants to have a successor lined up in order to ensure a smooth transition between Emperors during this time of economic recovery.

Public reaction to the news has been sharply divided. Nicholas Kane is a deeply respected man among the military due to his service in the IRA and IRSW, as well as his work with IRIS. Among intellectuals and political insiders, he's well regarded for his post-military private sector work for the political analysis think tank, the Carrington Association. However, left-leaning Chazicarians and war skeptics are highly critical of his repeated advocacy for more UIRC intervention in world affairs, even more so than his uncle, Emperor Victor Kane II. Some among his critics have even accused him of being a rampant imperialist.

The Moderate Party and Free People of the Empire have both endorsed his staunchly pro-market ideas in the past, but the Free People have recently been among those hounding his interventionism. United Conservatives and the Chazicarian Nation had both chosen Nicholas Kane as their nominees for the throne back in 2009 and 2015 respectively.

As recent detriments to Atlas wide stability have begun to cause some minor distress among the Zoboyizakoplayokloti populace, Prime Minister Devononokin Kawerdrop has at last stepped up to the plate and addressed the issues. In a televised press conference which was called in light of recent events in Altar, the PM also took the liberty of addressing the economic crisis currently taking place in the island nation of Agualadosa.

As a multi-faction civil war has broken out in Altar, Kawerdrop declared that the Zoboyizakoplayokloti government is officially backing the FRS (Free Republic of Saldavistan) in the conflict. Citing the ISA and GRA as future security threats and the FRS as a potential ally in the region, most memebers of the Assembly of Delegates seem to agree with Kawerdrop. However, Harriet Szalai, leader of the opposition, disagrees with the support of the FRS out of the belief that it would be in Zoboyizakoplayoklots best interest to back the FRA. However, her defiance will be in vain, as Kawerdrops P&P Party makes up the majority in the Assembly of Delegates, meaning that should Zoboyizakoplayoklot intervene, it will most undoubtedly be on the side of the FRS.

On Agualados, Kawerdrop has stated that while the Agualadosan government certainly has some fixing to do on their end, he stated that it is not necessarily all their fault. He proceeded to claim that the anti-communist insurgency is likely dealing a large blow to the economy, and that for Agualadosa to get back on track it would require an end of Grozyar support for the insurgents and the surrender of the anti-communist leaders. Should conflict escalate and/or continue, Kawerdrop stated that Zoboyizakoplayokloti involvement may become inevitable. Whether or not he was referring to a large scale military intervention is unsure, some believe he may have just meant humanitarian aid, although only the future will tell what he plans for the struggling island nation.

Kawerdrop also took a brief moment to congratulate Chazicaria's Nicholas Kane on his selection as next in line as Emperor. While he also proceeded to voice his opinion of a Nicholas Kane leadership possibly harming Zoboyizakoplayokloti interests, he tried to keep it civil.

The Valdian Navy has recently begun inflammatory live-fire excercises off the coast of Port Adrian. Involving firing mock missiles towards the Grozyar Homeland in an irresponsible and aggressive fashion. The Grozyar navy dispatched seven vessels to monitor the situation, which quickly escalated as a missile entered Grozyar airspace, prompting the detachment to shoot it down and fire a total of eleven IAHR-9 mtz. 2003 surface-to-surface missiles at the vessel, two of which passed the CIWS defences and hit the vessel in the stern and midsections. Currently the Valdian vessel has not sunk and the Grozyar Navy is requesting permission to evacuate the crew via helicopter.

How this will affect international affairs, currently spiralling out of control globally, remains to be seen. More updates as this story unfolds.

Just moments after the world shook with the possibility of war between Grozav Inima and Valdiu, Agualadosian Secretary General Tamati Jakab released an inflammatory statement which left many scratching their heads.

During economic hardships for Agualados, the small island nation has become increasing belligerent, especially against their even small neighbour, Csoportsag. Mr. Jakab denounced Csoportsag as a "Fascist Dictatorship", and claims that the Csoportsagi island chain was unjustly stolen by the "Fascist" Grozyar soldiers in 1965, and says it wishes for peaceful re-integration between the two island nations. It is beleived that rising tension between Grozav Inima and Valdiu have emboldened the Agualadosian Peoples Army, who believe that the Grozyar Republican Defence Force will be too pre-occupied attempting to defend the mainland to deploy forces to repel an Agualadosian invasion of Csoportsag.

The Csoportsagi Independent Armed Services has requested the full deployment of the 1st Republian Guard Division, a request which is yet to be answered by the KG-Alá-Hadvezér Viktor Jó. The Grozyar Republican Defence Force has moved to TÖRSZI-2, the second highest level of readiness for conflict, while the Csoportsagi Independent Armed Services followed suit to move to increased readiness.

In response to the events of the last few hours in the Grozyar Republic and Agualados/Csoportsag, the Office of the Emperor has released an official statement condemning the government of Agualados' intent to integrate Csoportsag, and called for an official investigation into the incident off the coast of Grozyar. While no public or TV appearance was made, a spokesman for the Office of the Emperor read the statement in an online stream just minutes ago.

While not announced, sources have given proof that the military's alert rating has been raised. Reserve officers and essential support personnel have been called up and are to report for duty, and active forces are on standby. Reserve combat personnel are currently advised to stay alert and watch for another alert level increase, on the chance that they must be called up.

More information on this situation as we get it.

Husseinabad, Huda – With 2017 beginning, President Abbas held the annual January Conference, with several discussions and debates being held this time in the esteemed Husseinabad University, President Abbas' alma mater. Mainly, however, this year's conference was about the Republic of Grozav Inima, as well as the Ziadi nation after the Hudian invasion - not to mention the Altari civil and Agualadosan situation.

President Abbas strongly warned the Grozav Iniman leadership about deteriorating relations. Hudian-Grozav Iniman relations have gone down ever since the Republic's support for the Ziadi monarchy, not to mention the recent assault on Valdian ships conducting military exercises. Abbas strongly condemned the Republic for the incident since then. As for the recent Agualadosan hostilities against Csoportsag, he simply urged both sides to avoid conflict, and suggested a referendum on the matter.

Next on the conference was about the Ziadi nation. Now freed from the corrupt monarchy, Ziadistan is being controlled by a temporary military junta, while the AU begins humanitarian and peacekeeping missions, eliminating a few militias who have begun to rebel against the junta. A democratic leadership will be replacing the junta within the end of this year, as the Ziadi economy starts to recuperate. Abbas visited the junta in December, gifting five ex-Hudian HF-9s as a sign of goodwill.

As for the war in Altar, Abbas has declared his neutrality, but many people within the administration have hinted at Hudian support for the Free Republic of Saldavistan. Abbas denied this rumors today, instead explaining that the Hudian nation will stay out of the conflict unless it directly threatens the nation's sovereignty: but did suggest that peacekeeping operations could be established in the distant future.

Of course, a lot more subjects had been discussed, not to mention the CHAVS Union, which is to be signed soon between the Hudian, Valdian, Acronian and Chilokveri nation. Otherwise, we wish everyone luck for the new year. Stay tuned to the Hudian Shurjo for more.

Sterling announces new alliance

President Alexander Sterling announced today the forming of a new alliance with Acronius, Chilokver, and Huda.

Called the Chilokver-Huda-Acronius-Valdiu Strategic Union, or CHAVS Union, the alliance seeks to “preserve the sovereignty and culture of its constituent nations”, “further the common aims of its constituent nations”, “provide a mutual defense to achieve these aims”, and “provide for a socioeconomic understanding and agreement between constituent nations to achieve these aims” from its capital in the Rory Whittemore Memorial Hall at the intersection of Reardon and Carlin in Prevale.

According to Sterling, the union’s formation comes at a critical time in world politics, with the situation in Altar increasing in tension. “Forming a bloc,” he said, “serves to consolidate our powers to a degree where we are collectively more influential and resilient”.

The Union’s primary feature is the Strategic Union Rapid Reaction Force, a collection of designated military units that stand ready to be deployed to a point of conflict at any time. Currently, the RRF is commanded by Acronian General Victor Deriveur. Valdiu has contributed a battalion and two destroyers to the RRF.

The Union also boasts a court, whose purview is purported to span from minor territorial disputes to heinous war crimes. The court, known as the Strategic Union Tribunal, sits from an unannounced location in Chilokver and includes up to nine unannounced Justices.

Salient issues are discussed by the Council of Representatives, whose membership consists of Valdian Foreign Affairs Director Mitchell Thromright, Chilokveri Minister of Foreign Affairs Ian Whiteway, Acronian Minister of External Affairs Louis Maskeline, and the Hudian Honorable Mr. Rahim Khan. The primary decision-making organ of the group, the Council is scheduled to meet once annually at Rory Whittemore Hall, but additional meetings can be scheduled elsewhere. Day-to-day operation of the alliance is delegated to the Council of Administration, who are in charge of finances, legal, record-keeping, and PR; the Council remains in Prevale at all times.

The alliance, Sterling said, would foster increased tourism among signatory nations, bolster the economy through preferential tariffs, and increase the security of Valdiu by multiplying its military might.

“Going into this new age,” Sterling said, “We must be prepared for anything. No man is an island, it is said, and the same is true of countries. By joining arms with these three nations and declaring our fraternity to the world, we shall be prepared. There will be seldom hostility that threatens our combined might and none that will threaten us more than others.”

Despite Sterling’s optimism, opponents say the union contributes to a watering-down of Valdian culture and will open Valdiu’s borders to new threats. “When the Acronians bring their people,” says “Red” Necluser, an unemployed man living in Deca, “They’re not bringing their best. Others are worried about the economic effects. One of those people is Shelby O’Bease, a fast-food worker from the Seaview countryside. “Those goddamn Chickenvories (sic) are going to come in here and take all our jobs. It happened to me! I had a cushy job at Central Arsenal as an accountant, then all of a sudden we’re told we’re all fired because of some ‘downsizing’ bullshit. I know what that means. It means that some goddamn Auchoians came in here with their rice paddy hats and thick glasses and ching-chonged their way up the chain of command until they finally told the CEO to move jobs over to Riceistan or wherever.”

Among the most biting concerns is the threat of terrorism. Because of Huda’s and Chilokver’s proximity to Alfashir, there are fears that the Union might be a gateway for terrorist attacks like the one that killed fifteen people and left President Alexander Sterling incapacitated for two months. Concerns like these have been called “silly” by Sterling administration officials, who have cited Chilokveri and Hudian opposition to groups like al-Qaria.

Professor Nelson McClure of the University of Cite de Cabose warned of the potential dangers of a union, saying that the government must tread lightly in order to avoid being taken advantage of with unfair trade deals. However, McClure added, the Sterling administration has shown to be a competent one, and expressed confidence that Prevale would be able to handle the additional responsibility. Mcclure said that professors he had spoken with had generally agreed with his view that the alliance was a positive thing.

Sterling is the first CHAV leader to speak regarding the new alliance. “I’m excited,” Sterling said in an interview Friday, “for what this means for Valdiu.”

Yesterday, troops from the Federal Republic of Altar, Chazicaria, and the Grozyar Republic bunked amongst Karakhaznian troops in a drilling base set up south of Omskaya. Along with them, the regiments brought multiple infantry fighting vehicles, while transport planes from across Karakhaznia flew into the base for hours. Nobody really knew about these movements or what they were for until this morning, when President Rustam Ismailov announced the beginning of a "joint international defence exercise" between troops from the four nations. Generals Omar Morozov and Yuri Sokolov explained that the exercise consisted of a simulated attack on a mock nation, which was focused largely on quickly attacking and holding strategic points and destroying an enemy force before they can react. People in the southern Omskayan suburbs reported that they could hear the faint sound of gunshots in the distance as the drill has raged on for the past hour. The Generals also noted that there would be "war games" between the nations, pitting the soldiers against one another for two sim drills, including an attack/defend drill and a small-scale indoors close quarters combat drill. Ismailov said that the exercise was to "promote extensive cooperation" between the four nations participating and other "last bastions of freedom across the world". In a bold statement, Ismailov said that Karakhaznia is "more than prepared" to defend it's allies and interests, and "would not hesitate" to enter a conflict at this time.

All of a sudden, we have seen a new spring in cooperation between several states in Atlas, and this military exercise is seen as a solidifying bond of trust and unity. With the decrease in international activity from the Vastava Pact and the rise of a new moderate alliance (CHAV - yes, like the word "chav"), many are left wondering whether there is a new and far more powerful conservative bloc forming in the mist. If you recall, there hasn't been a strong feeling of international cooperation between Atlasian conservative governments in a long time (probably since 2014), and maybe what we are seeing right now is the result of refueled fears of a moderate-leftist world overtaking traditional values. We can't really know for sure, as none of the leaders have really spoken on the matter yet, but what we can gather is that something is brewing. I will not be surprised if I wake up one morning in the near future, look at the news, and see that there has been a new alliance formed between states that mostly kept to themselves up to that point.

The drills, comments from Ismailov, and increased predictions of a new conservative order have received some intense backlash and criticism from the Karakhaznian left, with the NeoSoc group calling Ismailov, his "cronies", and all exercise participants "warmongering, sabre rattling, shitheads". A Flide war started up when a TradCon councilman said that all social justice warriors and NeoSec members "mindless cucks" who "don't understand" foreign policy. The Flide war has only gotten worse from there, with trolls from both sides spamming the site with hatred, trollpost, and blasphemy. The Flide administration team in the Great Kingdom had no comment on the matter when they were asked about it during a press conference. Since Ismailov took over the office of the President, the political climate in Karakhaznia has been getting hotter and hotter, and it's now getting to the point where insults on both sides are commonplace. Radical leftists, a very small minority in Karakhaznia, are doing whatever they can to get their voices heard online and in person, and multiple political analysts have predicted that some of these clashes between the government and NeoSoc could lead to people dying.

First Minister attacks CHAV alliance
"An attempt by Valdiu to back up its provocations towards Grozav Inima with a coalition is unacceptable"; Dalzell threatens to raise the question in AU

FM James Dalzell lambasts the CHAVS Union at a foreign policy speech delivered to the Reformed Party's New Year conference

ROSALYNE: The First Minister took the opportunity to launch an attack against the recently-formed CHAVS Union when he took to the stage to deliver an outline for Mairish foreign policy in the year 2017 today; the speech came at the Reformed Party's annual New Year conference. Mr. Dalzell declared that the alliance, consisting of the nations of Chilokver, Huda, Acronius, and Valdiu, serves a "means to an end" to "enforce the Valdian policy of aggression against Grozav Inima." The First Minister also said that "an attempt by Valdiu to back up its provocations towards Grozav Inima with a coalition is unacceptable" and threatened to have the Mairish Ambassador to the AU raise the matter during the next meeting of the General Assembly.

The Government's aversion to the CHAVS Union is understandable, due to the hasty Mairish withdrawal in early December from Ziadistan, where an expeditionary force was engaged in a messy and largely futile campaign to support Ziadi insurgents against a Hudian occupation force. Mairland and Huda remain in a diplomatic cold war, with ambassadors absent from both Lochiel and Husseinabad. Grozav Inima, a Mairish strategic partner, has been confronted with Valdian live-fire exercises off its coast; Valdiu is now a declared ally of Huda, leaving a Mairish condemnation of the CHAV alliance all but inevitable.

The First Minister told the assembled crowd of MCs and local councilmen that "a Grozyar military engagement in Ziadistan will be assisted by Mairish funds and advisors: this path of action will allow us to continue to assert Mairish influence in this troubled country without the loss of valuable life." Not all agreed that a second intervention in Ziadistan would be so smart. The Leader of the Opposition Edward MacMurray, in an interview with WT, stated "it would be a tremendous folly if this government committed itself to another military operation in Ziadistan... if they had not come out with such a tremendous majority in July, the Dalzell ministry would have fallen already." Conservative and Liberal MCs echoed MacMurray's sentiments during First Minister's Questions this morning.

Amidst a period of rapidly rising international tensions in Atlas, the diplomatic game being played by First Minister is certainly questionable. With his popularity already low after the bloody intervention in Ziadistan which occurred during the summer and autumn, Mr. Dalzell would do well to keep his foreign policy conciliatory and calm. Indeed, it is the opinion of many political commentators, including Ian Rodgers of Wynton University, that the First Minister's position is liable to become increasingly untenable in the coming months. "If the Budget which is due to be released next month defunds [welfare agencies], it won't make any new friends for the First Minister. If his foreign policy leads us into another war, it is going to end up turning public opinion solidly against him. He needs to take a step back and look at the international situation with a cool head- I think his party's majority is unchallengeable, but the Government might very well be forced to soldier on with a different face as First Minister if he missteps again."

Reports indicate that the Ambassador to Valdiu has been given notice of possible recall and that the Government is prepared to shut down the Valdian embassy in Lochiel if that country and Grozav Inima go to war. Diplomatic feelers have also been extended to Karakhaznia and Altar in order to lay the groundwork for a possible alliance countering the CHAVS Union if the international situation flares up into open conflict.

Valdian Navy ship attacked off Grozav Inima

The VCS Richard Astley, a Merit-class destroyer of the Second Fleet, was fired upon by a Grozav Iniman warship, the GKH Felszabadito, on Friday last week.

The Astley was one of four ships partaking in live-fire exercises off the Grozav Iniman coast when the Felszabadito launched eleven anti-ship missiles at the destroyer. The destroyers' combat systems reacted quickly, destroying all eleven missiles; however, two made it into range of and were destroyed by the ship's RASRR CIWS, with small fragments impacting the ship.

According to the Second Fleet, the destroyers immediately returned gun and missile fire and vacated the area, declaring a combat no-fly zone and instructing civilian aircraft to leave the airspace - a Sde Dovian airliner cruising at 30,000 feet was affected. The only damage sustained was minor cosmetic damage to the Astley and minor injuries to some of the Astley's sailors, who were treated onboard.

At the time of the attack, the Astley was conducting live-fire training with another Merit, the VCS Annika Lyman of the Third Fleet, when it was engaged. Director of Foreign Affairs Mitchell Thromright disputed several points of the Grozyar claim, specifically the claim that the destroyers fired into Grozyar airspace. Thromright said that the "Astley was firing at a target drone a nautical mile from the Grozyar national maritime boundary", which was duly intercepted. The missile detonated five hundred meters from the drone as planned. Additionally, Thromright announced the government released maps containing data from the destroyers' targeting and tracking radars to corroborate their claims.

The Second Fleet alleges that the warships had been tracking the Iniman craft as part of their normal duties and reacted instantly when it launched the missiles, destroying most of them in midair.

President Alexander Sterling spoke before the nation for the first time regarding the incident today. "The incident was unfortunate and alarming," he said. "The Iniman reaction was very much out of proportion. The right of the Valdian Navy to conduct exercises in international waters is an important one, especially since these exercises were announced publicly beforehand. The destroyers' systems reacted flawlessly and its crews bravely and correctly."

In response, Sterling has approved economic sanctions against Grozav Inima and has called an CHAVS emergency meeting under Section VI of the CHAVS charter, which will be held at the Rory Whittemore Memorial Hall in Prevale tomorrow, and the Valdian ambassador to Grozav Inima, Martin Hellison, has requested an audience with Grozav President Petre Balan. The Third Fleet announced to much controversy a series of freedom-of-navigation exercises in the Gulf of Cydonia as well.

Publicly, reactions are varied. Urban citizens conveyed doubt about the government's intentions when conducting such exercises so close to shore. "It's just callous," said Eric Thallegen, associate professor of politics at Seaview District University, Seaview. "To sail up and start shooting so close to a paranoid, xenophobic, militaristic foreign nation headed by a volatile, inexperienced man who is outright unfit for his position? I expected better from the Valdian government. Sterling is normally very careful about these things."

However, rural Valdians expressed support for the government and its actions. "We had every damn right to be there," said Kenneth Graham, a farmer from south of Reach. "It's nobody's territory. We didn't shoot a missile into their territory, and we have the maps to back it up. The Grozyar government had absolutely no precedent to fire on our ships and we need to take decisive action."

According to Sterling, the government is still deciding on a course of action. PCNN will update this story as soon as an analysis of released maps is complete and as the story unfolds.

SEKERE - A small Dahomeyan armoured force made up of M4 Shermans and M8 Greyhounds pushed through the jungle to attack a small hamlet that is used as a hideout for the Zuwa Islamic Brigade, a militant Islamic force. This came after a police officer was badly wounded when he was stabbed and taken by the militants who operated out of the hamlet. The Dahomeyan forces started their attack from Highway 24, and surrounded the location of the hamlet. Police forces assisted in the operation, and an artillery strike was called onto the position.

Then, the armoured forces pushed in, encountering heavy resistance from the Zuwa Islamic Brigade militants. According to Dahomeyan military sources, the majority of the Zuwa Islamic Brigade militants were killed during the attack. About twenty attempted to escape, but where quickly caught by the surrounding policemen from the town of Sekere just nearby. The militants were kept in the Sekere jail for several hours, before being transported to Porto Boukoumbé where they will be questioned by military forces for their involvement and secrets of the ZIB.

One M8 Greyhound armoured car was knocked out, and 12 Dahomeyan Popular Army soldiers were killed in the battle. A military funeral will be held for them in their respective home towns, and President Ahmed Kérékou has offered his condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers. The families of the deceased terrorists however are being looked for, while some have already been detained and are awaiting questioning from Dahomeyan authorities in Porto Boukombé.

Second Lieutenant Abijawe Abujawe, a member of the attacking forces agreed for an interview for the 'La Flamme Rouge' journalists to report on the situation. One of our top journalists in the field, Amadi Osion accompanied the forces during the battle and asked the Second Lieutenant about the operation, and this is what he responded.

Amadi: How did the forces find the camp in the first place?

Abijawe: Policemen were getting attacked and harrased in the nearby town of Sekere, and a few civillians apparently found the location of the camp. To check, we sent several police officers who were met with bullets by the terrorists. They withdrew, called us, and we surrounded the town for the operation. The terrorists were very underequipped, so it was easy to deal with.

Amadi: Now, how did one of the armoured cars got knocked out and 12 soldiers killed if the soldiers were underequipped?

Abijawe: The terrorists had set many traps and mines, which caught many soldiers who were unfortunately killed by the traps and heavy entrenched positions of the underequipped and undertrained terrorists.

Amadi: What do you feel about the whole fiasco?

Abijawe: To be perfectly honest, I wish that the Zuwa Islamic Brigade can be exterminated before the end of the year. The Zuwa Islamic Brigade drags people into joining the Brigade, then using them as a sort of cannon fodder. It's a horrific cycle, and I hope that they can be destroyed.

Husseinabad, Huda - Shortly after the end of the January Conference, the Abbas administration has faced dual denunciations from both the Mairish and Grozyar nation. Mr. Petre Balan, President of Grozav Inima, stated that the Hudian government had oppressed Ziadis, and termed the nation as a "hegemony" being led by a "regime", as well as expressing regret that more could not be done in Ziadistan. With economic sanctions being pressed by Valdiu upon the Grozyar nation, Hudian ambassadors have been recalled, and the Hudian embassy is to be closed until further notice.

Several pundits and analysts have suggested that Mr. Balan wants war. President Abbas in a statement today said, "Mr. Balan has resorted to name-calling where there is need for temperance. He sees conflict where there is peace. For the security of our ambassadors, we have recalled them - and we hope it is only a temporary affair. As for the Agualadosan conflict, we express deep regret that Grozav Inima has taken such drastic measures. Once more, we urge both sides to consider a peace."

Not long after Mr. Balan's speech, the Kharakhaznian nation held large scale infantry combat exercises alongside Chazicaria, Grozav Inima as well as the Federal Republic of Altar - and the Chazicarian nation held a surprise summit. The Abbas administration had no statement on the matter. However, Dr. Hafez Rahman of the Husseinabad University has suggested that the possibility of a pact between the four nations is a distinct possibility.

As for the Mairish denunciation, President Abbas has harsher words. "We simply have no words for the Mairish nation. We can simply ask the Mairish people to realize. Mr. Dalzell is no worthy leader. He has dragged on your troops - your brothers, fathers, sons into a war that was rightful. He is threatening the Hudian nation once more simply sparked by the fear of a union that ensures friendship. And if your leader Dalzell cannot make friends, then do not let him be the warmonger he is. The power is in your hands, the Mairish people. Not ours."

However, Abbas hailed the new CHAVS Union, calling it a "landmark" alliance that will last for ages to come. In an official statement, Abbas declared that the CHAVS Union was not only bound by political and cultural similarities, but that they are bound by history and brotherhood. While he will not be present for the emergency meeting called by the Valdians, Prime Minister Hamid Yusriyah is to visit Prevale for the meeting. President Abbas is reportedly visiting Stasnov in what appears to be another pact - the government has stated that a military arms deal, trade pact and non aggression pact is to be inked in the capital sometime in the week. It is advised not to visit the Grozyar Republic or Mairland at the time, until any diplomatic agreement is achieved.

"Valdiu is the aggressor"
Ambassador recalled from Prevale; Atlas revs up for war as MoD announces deployment of jet squadron to Grozav Inima

BANWICK- The residents of the seaside town of Banwick had anything but a peaceful day, as the air was filled with the screams of fighter jets flying overhead- the Mairish response to Valdian provocations against Grozav Inima. Early in the morning, the MoD announced that it would be deploying the 56th Squadron, the combat arm of No. 6 Expeditionary Group, to Grozav Inima in a show of solidarity with the Grozyar people and government in the face of repeated Valdian provocations. The news came after the signing of a non-aggression treaty between Valdiu and Stasnov, which many observers suspect to be the first step on the path towards military alliance.

First Minister James Dalzell has certainly acted quickly following his speech outlining future foreign policy early in the week. The Government did not respond to the statement by President Abbas of Huda, claiming that it is responsibility of the Mairish people to vote the First Minister out of office; however, negotiations over the re-opening of embassies between the two nations will reportedly be frozen indefinitely until the international crisis resolves.

The IDI-126 Heralds of the Expeditionary Group will take a circuitous route to Grozav Inima, flying south to the Mairish territory of Carncath Island, south of Pepper Atoll. The planes, after refueling, will then continue their journey to Grozav Inima, where they will be kept as a deterrence against possible Valdian or Srpskan aggression. Meanwhile, an official statement from the Foreign Ministry has revealed that the Mairish Ambassador to Valdiu, Sir Joseph Waldon, has been recalled from Prevale and that he will instead become Special Representative to the CHAVS Union, a new position which essentially replaces that of Ambassador to Valdiu. Ambassador Waldon, according to the statement, will remain in Lochiel until further notice.

Many people expected this situation to escalate, but I'm sure nobody expect it to be this quick. In a mere matter of less than a week, the geopolitical situation in Atlas has become nothing but more convoluted as nations across the world gear up in anticipation of a war. All of these events were triggered by live fire exercises conducted by the Valdian Navy off the coast of the Grozyar Republic, in the Gulf of Cydonia. From there, we have witnessed numerous military drills, immense heightening of military readiness across the board, increased diplomatic tensions, and the possible formation of a new dominant alliance. In Karakhaznia, the situation is only the same. Karakhaznians came home from work today to witness President Rustam Ismailov give a short statement in regards to recent issues.

"I declare Karakhaznia's full support," said the President, "for the Grozyar Republic and all that fall on the wrong end of unprecedented aggression from outside forces. It is very important to note, that in this situation, Valdiu is absolutely the aggressor nation. Valdiu's recent actions, the live fire exercise which landed rounds dangerously close to the Grozyar maritime boundary, have been more akin to a warmongering, sabre rattling state, rather than the more peaceful approach that it has taken in the past. Sensible Atlasians need to unite, and condemn the aggressor's actions for what they are. We will take whatever steps necessary to protect the sovereignty and territorial rights of the Grozyar Republic, as will our esteemed allies who are working to fight these warmongering attackers. Additionally, Karakhaznia will be deploying soldiers of the 45th Airborne into the Grozyar Republic, along with a squadron of crack multirole fighters into the Grozyar Republic, which will act as a rapid response force in the case that an attack does take place."

Multiple reports from other sources also indicated that Karakhaznia is calling up vast amounts of reserves to be reactivated in their duties, and have put mechanised infantry and paratroopers on their borders in a state of heightened combat readiness. The deployments into the Grozyar Republic and the spike in military activity from Karakhaznia is likely in response to the recent uptick in Stasnovan military readiness and the predicted identical actions from CHAVS nations. Famed political and military analyst Aleksander Markov stated earlier today that war is almost certain to break out in the very near future, and that Atlasians should prepare for what could turn into the worst. In relation to Karakhaznia, he stated that the Karakhaznian Armed Forces possessed the geographical and logistical capability to wage and win a border war with potential contenders and their allies, but their abilities in relations to mobility and maintenance overseas was a complete toss up, as it has never been tested in actual post-90s modern conventional combat.

One thing that is clear, in this dark mist of confusion and fear, is that the peace lovers of Atlas are absolutely losing it right now. Across the world, it is expected that protests filled with pacifists from both sides of the political spectrum will rise to significance, and it is highly questionable if any governments on any side of this conflict will tolerate it. Yesterday in Aznara, a peaceful gathering of people that slowly turned into a rowdy crowd gathered in front of the Federal High Council building and the Presidential Palace, which were met with no response other than a clearing operation from the KNG, with multiple arrests being made. These are turbulent times for Atlas, and the true colours of the nations that be may be shown to the world very soon.

Tensions High in Vastava

Tensions have risen between nations in Atlas and especially in Vastava. After a confrontation between Grozyar and Valdiu took an ugly turn, with naval ships trading shots then both retreating, many state governments have taken to supporting and condemning the two nations involved. Today the President finally broke his silence on the issue stating that he condemned the fashion in which both states acted, saying there was partial fault from both of them, but called for peace, and called upon the rest of Vastava to follow. "At best, the Valdiu's ships were running an exercise in a careless and reckless way, though Grozyar fleets could have showed more restraint. Regardless of this who shot first or who was trying to attack who rhetoric, I believe many of these states need to calm down and discuss their complaints. There have been numerous conflicts in these last years, and had only there been greater commitment from these governments to their people, and peace, some of them would have been avoided. My own presidency has seen physical military conflict, but it was only after we exhausted ourselves on any chance of peace."

However, the President couldn't comment on what (if any) action would be taken, merely stating that "it is too early, though we will continue to observe carefully." It remains to be seen if the rest of the region will follow the same example, or indeed, if the saber-rattling and feverish talk of conflict will become reality.

CHAZICARIA TAKES OFFENSE AT AIRSPACE PENETRATION

Chazicarian fighters scrambled to intercept Chilokveri bombers.

A flight of CB-02 Nixii bombers were “aggressively intercepted” by Chazicarian Vulture fighters near Nox Mynus on Monday, the Chilokveri Ministry of Defense lodged in a formal diplomatic claim today.

The MoD alleges the four nuclear bombers were on a standard long distance endurance flight in international airspace off the coast of Chazicaria when the aircraft were approached at high speed and close proximity by F1-5g interceptors. Officials have slammed the maneuvers as unsafe and unprofessional, dismissing claims that the jets were forced to identify the bombers visually due to inoperative transponders.

“Our aircraft complied with all international regulations during the deterrence patrol, while following internal air force regulations necessary for such a mission e.g. EMCON…” – a press statement

Observers both within and outside the government have criticized the wisdom of continuing provocative deterrence missions, especially in light of recent events such as increasing tensions between the CHAVS Union and Grozav Inima and allies following a naval skirmish in the Gulf of Cydonia. A number of those interviewed have also privately questioned the timing and location of the exercise, which coincides with a sudden diplomatic summit called by the Chazicarian heir presumptive, Nicholas Kane. Whether intentional or not, the patrol has sent a clear message to Chazicaria & its possible future allies, warning them to steer clear of conflict with Chilokveri partners. The success of this nuclear brinkmanship remains to be seen.

The Kowasaki CB-02 Nixii is a four engine, supersonic variable-sweep wing, heavy strategic bomber in service with the National Chilokveri Air Force (NCAF). First introduced in 1982, their swing wings and powerful afterburning turbofans allow them to penetrate enemy airspace at low altitude at speeds of up to Mach 1.2. This impressive performance and their all white anti-flash paintjob has earned them the popular moniker “Snow Camels”. 48 of the bombers serve as Chilokver’s airborne branch of the nuclear triad, with each plane capable of carrying up to 34t of ordnance in the form of 16 AS-300N Spear nuclear tipped cruise missiles. It is unknown whether the four aircraft involved in the incident carried live warheads, due to the NCAF’s non-disclosure policy of neither confirming nor denying the deployment of nuclear weapons.
