High Level informants from the Grozyar Republican Defence Force and HM Zoboyizakoplayokloti Armed Forces confirm- Zobik soldiers have been covertly deployed in Agualados against Grozyar Republican Guard soldiers. This is a claim both MSM outlets, government officials and Zoboyizoplayoklot were quick to deny.

In a shocking revelation today, high ranking Grozyar military officials confirmed in the aftermath of the Battle of Szent Mikhail, that multiple discarded Tuman-519 rifles, only used by the HMZAF, were found on the scene. Some high ranking members of the 1st Republican Guard division stated that at least three Zobik special forces soldiers had been captured. This flagrant disregard for the rights of Grozyar international interests, by a supposed ally, is unforgivable. Zoboyizakoplayoklot has proved itself time and again to be an enemy of Grozav Inima, and wholly anti-Grozyar, however the current globalist defence force seems too cowardly to retaliate against Zoboyizakoplayoklot. Thankfully, Petre Balan is not likely to let this transgression slip, and we are confident that once the war is over, and Grozyar troops march through Cydonia, Srpska and Stasnov, we will see justice fall on the Zobiks.

Grunder Airship Foundry Begins Designing New Cargo Airship Class

Today Grunder Airship Foundry has announced it has submitted plans for a new cargo airship class called the B Series which some of the preliminary stats include it will be 1,500 feet long with a beam of 340 feet with a estimated capacity of 900 tons of cargo. Which once it's built will be the biggest airship built. Some speculation regarding how it can withstand major storms the lead engineer of the project officially said, "GAF airships have a spotless service record and even if something were to happen the pilots and crew have the tools at their disposal to land it safely."

Some of the improvements also include a small canteen as well as a entertainment compartment with WiFi since some complaints in the past was lack of fun for the air crews on their down time from their duties. The crew required is around 23 with space for 28 crew in total. The new airship will cost around 340 million USD but with the design max speed of 260 MPH (220 MPH cruising speed) it would answer the demand for a larger airship. Although it will take another year before we see the new B series fly. The company has also announced it's intention to also build passenger airships based on the B series design if it proves to be as successful as the Panamax (A series) airships. Plans have also been announced to produce a passenger variant of the A series with a capacity of 250 passengers as well as a small food court, and entertainment such as arcades, movie theater, as well as sun decks and sky lounges. Plans which again were submitted to ensure the design variants don't compromise the structure of the ship.

Already the board of airships have limited the passenger airship to 15,000 feet with a airspeed of 30 MPH when the sun decks and sky lounges are in use since those areas will be fully exposed to the wind. Which of course the CEO of the company fully agrees with and said the company will gladly comply to any modifications made or anything the engineers might have missed although it's doubtful. Many airlines had expressed interest in the new passenger A series variants since their cost is around 180 million which is less than the cost of a traditional jet liner of similar capacity at 350 million.

Tennish Navy Fw-200s Retired

The twelve Boeing Fw200 Condors, which the Tennish Navy have been using as an effective maritime patroller, have been retired today at a ceremony at Joint Base Haulbowline, Colme province. Speakers at the ceremony spoke mainly of the bomber’s historic service during the Second World War, and how it became a symbol of the allied triumph over fascism.

Most Tennish will remember the Condor, however, for its role in the Hibbard Bay incident, in which an unknown naval vessel trespassed into Tennish waters. The two Fw200s on patrol nearby, named “Killer Queen” and “Voodoo Lady”, intercepted the vessel, and in retaliation to being fired upon, destroyed it. The subsequent fallout made international headlines, but it was never determined where the vessel came from or what it was doing. There is a conspiracy theory which states that it was, in fact, a Tennish decoy, and that the incident was used to drum up support for the military, as well as legitimize the usage of such an old aircraft.

The Fw200s are expected to be replaced with the significantly more modern P-8 Orion.

NEW OFFENSIVE AGAINST PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF THE ZAHWA
Bakwangan State Army units launch new offensive against the People's Republic of the Zahwa

PORTO BOUKOMBE- The Zuwa People's Army and the People's Republic of the Zahwa were caught off guard early today when 800 units of the Royal Bakwangan State Army begin a new offensive against the communist forces in the northern jungle mountains of Bempe. M4 Sherman tanks supported by infantry and Greyhound armored cars rolled into the ZPA controlled town of Kaulu where heavy resistance were met from the ZPA and Zahwan forces but were eventually forced to retreat because of the actions of the Bakwangan State Army.

Troops from all around the area were called in to attack and push back the communists in the first major engagements since the end of 2016. The situation was previously a status quo and a de-facto ceasefire in some areas but this was broken earlier today after troops along the border were ordered to attack their communist counterparts. The towns of Kaulu, Toya and Isala had all been taken by the Bakwangan State Army troops while fighting still continues in the towns of Mwanza and Kaputa, where hundreds of Bakwangan State Army troops clash with Zuwa People's Army and Zahwa Liberation Army forces.

About fifty casualties have been reported for the Bakwangan State Army after the deadly clashes in Kaulu but casualties have been light for the Bakwangans in the other battles so far while heavy casualties have been reported by the ZPA and ZLA. Surviving ZPA and ZLA forces that surrendered have been executed in droves according to eyewitnesses, saying the communists were lined up against a wall and shot. The news of the victories has given rise to a new anti-communist sentiment in Porto Boukombe and the quiet south, resulting in an anti-communist demonstration in Porto Boukombe.

Communists from foreign nations have stated their condemnations to the Bakwangan Kingdom by 'breaking the peace' and attacking the People's Republic of Zahwa and the ZPA. Foreign volunteers have been seen amongst the rebels and a few were amongst the executed in the aftermath of the battle. King Ahmed Kerekou IV himself has addressed the nation in a speech in Porto Boukombe. The King has told the nation that communism is a threat to the Monarchy and progress of Bakwanga, and therefore has to be eliminated. A new law has been put in place by the King himself, a ban on communism.

All socialist and activities in support of communism has been banned and the consequence is death. Many have already been executed and arrested by the State Army in the Northern highlands, while smaller number of arrests have been reported in Porto Boukombe and the south. The new anti-communist sentiment following the offensive marks the Bakwangan desire to fight communism which might take Bakwanga and the Alfashiri League of Legally Associated Homelands to a new step in the world stage.

The new ship drawing a large crowd as many cheered when it made the short trip to the cargo terminal to begin taking on cargo. Notably skipping testing which has drawn criticism but the engineers have said that the new B series was built with safety in mind including re-enforcing the keel to ensure it can handle all the strains of flight. Many have said the new design of the cargo holds will easily put the panamax class out of commission.

MERGER OF UNION PARTY AND NATIONAL DEMOCRATIC LOOMS; COMBINED PARTY COULD HAVE 43% SUPPORT (+CONGRESSIONAL ELECTION OPINION POLL)

Image
National Democratic leader Marie Chirac leads ND into a merger with UP, and the combined party hypothetically has 43% support in a recent poll

AS PRESIDENT ZARIA AND HER CENTRIST COALITION PARTY FALTERS IN POPULARITY, a hypothetical combined party of ND and UP may have the backing of 43% of the electorate according to a poll conducted by National Sunday Post. Leader of the Opposition in Congress and ND Chairwoman Marie Chirac also leads polling for the 2020 election, leading Zaria by 12 points when "Don't Know/No Response" is left out, 56-44. Merger talks are ongoing between ND and UP, and appear to be going well.

The combined party would have a membership of 1.4 million, far larger than ruling CC (600k), Conservative (410k) and Reform (380k). The combined party would also take de jure control of Congress - The Constitution stipulates the largest party would have the right to appoint the Speaker. While the government bloc would still control a majority of the seats, no party in said bloc would control more seats than the combined party's 230 seats. Polls for the upcoming Congressional elections in June suggest the combined party would take 43% of the vote, and because of Kumba's FPTP single-seat Congressional district system, the same poll suggested it would take total control of Congress by itself, taking 344 seats.

Not only that, but as a result of Zaria's faltering popularity as the economy shrank more than it did the year before she took office, as well as a general lack of trust in her inexperienced and unenthusiastic cabinet, probable leader of the combined leader, Marie Chirac, would easily win the election in the second-round against Zaria, 56-44, as well as winning the first round currently with 45% of the vote. This could mean, if Chirac becomes even more popular, she could win a majority in the first round, being the first to do so since the two-round system came into effect in 2010 as a result of a campaign by Reform.

The first suggestions of a merged UP/ND came after the parties published their platforms for the 2007 Congressional elections. Union shifted towards the left, whilst ND shifted towards the centre, and both ended in essentially the same spot on the spectrum. This caused difficulties for voters, and both parties suffered huge losses as they split the centre-left vote. For the 2012 Congressional elections, they signed an alliance agreement and both saw huge gains as either one or the other contested each district. Members of both parties seem to largely support a combined party - 93% of UP members, and 89% of ND members after a poll was conducted by NatStat in late February when merger negotiations were announced.

A combined party is near certain, and all really that is left to decide is the name. In the same NatStat poll, 82% of party members from both parties supported adopting the name "National Democratic Union", or NDU for short.

OPINION POLLING FOR JUNE 2017 CONGRESSIONAL ELECTIONS: Source: National Sunday Post

Question: What party do you intend to vote for in this upcoming Congressional election? (Note: As a result of the merger talks between UP and ND, they are listed as a single party)

Union/National Democratic - 43%
Reform - 27%
Conservative - 18%
Centrist Coalition - 10%
Undecided - 2%
Yeah, I ran the Idi Amin WA General Secretary campaign. Also known as Kaalmi.

Valadi vox Indireth city council agree: Beva airport to receive expansion from recently raised funds!

Image
Beva Airport, soon to be renamed 'Thorrár Gregeri Bel-Varnia Memorial International Airport', currently hosts only domestic flights

Valadi vox Indireth, Territory of Beva - With the Honourable Doctor Angrod Vanglhav, Head of the Office of Diplomatic Affairs for the Principality of Lobos and Beva, at the Valadi vox Indireth city council, the meeting was given an air of flair and expertise that was normally not seen in the town. While a small town according to international and Vignari Vox standards, Valadi vox Indireth remains the second largest city within Beva and thus also holds a seat within the Principality's Council for Development. Within this capacity, His Princely Highness Hiilgar II had sent Dr. Angrod Vanglhav to convince the city council to give their vote to a development plan for the nearby Beva Airport, which currently provides highly wanted domestic flights and low-capacity cargo transport for the Principality, and on occasion, nearby areas of other states.

With a title grant for money scheme by His Princely Highness Hiilgar II succeeding in summoning up millions of funds from foreign citizens seeking to become more respected within the world, the Prince and the Principality have quickly moved towards renovating, refurbishing and upgrading the Beva Airport to allow for an increase in flight movements, the beginning of international movements and an increase in cargo transportation capacity. With regular funds unable to be attained for the wanted projects, due to the inability of the Principality to find a Vignar airline willing to provide guaranteed flights after the construction, the plans had originally been set on ice. However, now that the Council for Development of the Principality have all voted in favour of the plans with the funds provided by the scheme, the airport shall receive it's highly needed upgrades and updates.

Heida Vonglvats, the currently-seated President and Treasurer of the Lobos and Beva Tourism & Recreation Board, was quick to respond to the positive vote by the Valadi vox Indireth city council. Also at the meeting and one of the advisory speakers for Dr. Vanglhav, miss Vonglvats gave an inspirational speech about the significant boost that the airport could give to the Tourism sector of the Principality, the increased capacity for Outward Mountain Sons and Daughters to return during holidays and the standard living costs and the living standards, the first decreasing and the latter increasing for the mountainous region. In a magnificent bright pink suit finished with a wolf fur coat, which the former Vignar female sharpshooting champion boasted about to the press at the meeting by stating that she shot the wolf herself, she made for a tough but sexy female counterpart towards the more soft and manly roughness of Dr. Vanglhav. Read more about the outfits and love life of Heidi Vonglvats in the Frattiðbladde Privér! Frattiðbladde Privér - Nobody knows gossip like the government!

Tourism currently remains a secondary industry within the Principality, with most of it's capacity being used by OMSD's. As such, small bed and breakfasts remain the majority of full-time room providers with businesses such as bars, casino's and restaurants with room rentals forming the other slice of the Principality's tourism pie. Due to the tourism opportunities being within relatively small sections of time, during holiday periods, these rooms remain a secondary earner for the accommodations. According to the report from Dr. Vanglhav and the advice from the advisory speakers, the new airport will ensure that the Tourism branch will be able to increase capacity and professionalism around the board while still maintaining the core market of OMSD's and enabling them to expand their market across domestic Vignari markets and international markets.

One of the markets that the advisory speakers see as a strong growth market remains small-scale durable ecologically-sound chalets and cabins for the upscale green-enthusiasts, a market that has seen some growth in the hamlet of Vorvalar-Tromsbii in the Territory of Beva. A very small hamlet of fifty inhabitants in the upper mountains, it saw a park of eight chalets open up and improve life in the village immensely, with income from the park and the increasing importance of the village seeing various improvements such as an increase of public transport routes from one a day to four a day, the permanent placement of a general practitioner in the town and the addition of a free wifi zone at the park that also covers the hamlet.

It remains to be seen if the renovation, refurbishing and upgrading of the airport will have the grand effect that the advisory speakers have deemed it. The current plan, with a budget of 2.070.000.000 Neckar (Populis), will allow for the renovation and refurbishment of the current terminal towards a dedicated domestic terminal with a duty free shop, the renovation of hangars and staff buildings, the construction of a small international terminal with five gates and a duty free shop and the acquisition of more modern vehicles and equipment. Stage one is set to begin within two weeks, with construction set to use local materials to shorten construction periods and keep costs low. His Princely Highness Hiilgar II has offered the services of his personal sculptor, Vignor Belträ, to craft a statue of Thorrár Gregeri Bel-Varnia to become the centrepiece of the airport's entrance at his own costs, an offer that has been gratefully accepted.

As all know, Thorrár Gregeri Bel-Varnia was Prince Hiilgar II's opposition in the election for the position of Prince. Murdered by dark, unknown forces through the cowardly way of a taxi bomb, Prince Hiilgar II has personally led the investigation into the heinous murder. Regretfully, however, the mysterious taxi driver that fled shortly before the explosion was never found and the case remains cold until this day. Prince Hiilgar II has not remained still in the face of adversity and has maintained the proper ways of respect towards his fallen opponent, a True Son of Beva, and told the press in a statement that 'Thorrár Gregeri Bel-Varnia must be remembered and his fate used in our strength, showing that we must never give in towards other ways of life than our own. This True Son of Beva has earned our respect with his martyrdom in the name of democracy, a democracy that we have managed to maintain. This statue will show our respect to him to all who visit our proud nation through flight and will surely amaze and inspire them into finding out about our proud patriot and he will earn their respect. He may not live but he lives on through us and this statue!'.

Thorrár Gregeri Bel-Varnia Memorial International Airport reports: Phase One and Two completed!

Image
Lovely downtown Beva, capital of the same named territory and situated on the shores of the Indireth river, will see a big boost from the airport expansion

Near Valadi vox Indireth, Territory of Beva - With the construction of the Beva Airport, renamed Thorrár Gregeri Bel-Varnia Memorial International Airport, being underway for some time, the first news of the project has arrived in a double duration press conference. With pride, the airport's general director, communications director and the head contractor were quick to announce the rapid progress made in regards to the construction phases one and two, namely the expansion of facilities such as a large amount of additional parking spaces and the renovation and refurbishment of the current terminal towards a dedicated domestic terminal.

While construction phase two was originally intended to be the construction of the new international terminal, as the plan called for domestic flights to be temporarily filled within said terminal, the project has seen additional cash flow come in through the Honorary Order of the Bronze Phoenix. Thanks to the additional amount of funds, construction phases have been shifted to forward the construction phase containing the domestic terminal while new plans are being drawn up to enlarge the international terminal. While the precise increase in budget has not been publicised, Frattiðbladde - Lobos and Beva edition has managed to see preliminary papers drawn up by the Princely Bank of Lobos and Beva in regards to the additional cash injection. With the grand entrepreneur and humanitarian benefactor extraordinaire Arik Zabong of Zoboyizakoplayoklot becoming a Senior Knight in the Honorary Order of the Bronze Phoenix, a cash injection of 1,552,500,000 Neckar Populis has reached the Princely Bank. According to the preliminary papers, the additional construction will cost anywhere from 345,000,000 to 1,035,000,000 Neckar Populis.
According to inside sources at various contractors, even the smallest plans will include an increase to six gates and a new service area, with room for a cafe and shops.

The general mood among Lobos and Beva contractors is very high, with almost all companies that have the experience and capacity for this kind of work being hired to work on the airport. BV Air Support, the House Bel-Varnia owned company managing and working the airport, has also seen a large increase in value and positions, with Phase One upgrades including vehicles and equipment granted to them. With BV Air Support being the only company within the Principality able to provide these service and with the equipment they have in place and have received in recent days, they are the clear winner and only contestant towards the contract for the international terminal. While contract negotiations with the Princely Air Authority are still underway, Frattiðbladde sees no obstacles towards the signing of contracts, a move that could see BV Air Support double or triple it's employee numbers in order to provide for the increased capacity. If the largest plans are accepted, an increase to ten international and long distance gates, it could see BV Air Support become one of the more important employers within the Principality.

Hotels and other service providers within the Principality, and the territory of Beva particularly, have responded with many positive messages towards the enlarged plans. However, some were quick to promote caution due to the fact that the Principality's small population number means that fewer people are able to be hired with the right skills. While this can be alleviated by hiring from other parts of the Royal Federation, this can also lead to the unique Princely culture to wane and eventually be supplanted. Miss Vonglvats of the Lobos and Beva Tourism & Recreation Board was quick to provide a second option, the promotion of Outward Mountain Sons and Daughters returning permanently to work in their motherland. As many know, Lobos and Beva has seen a large labour drain during an economic crisis soon after it's independence, leading to the Outward Mountain Sons and Daughters, currently grown into a group of one-hundred fifty thousand expats that remain connected to the Principality though heritage, cultural ties, family and property. A large amount of these citizens would surely return if given the option to build a life within the Principality, providing a large pool of learned and experienced citizens to attract workers from.

While Frattiðbladde cannot promote one choice over another in order to stay neutral, both choices leave the Principality with a problem to solve: An increased need for housing. The Principality still holds a reasonable amount of empty houses but most of these are located in the smaller villages and these leave new inhabitants with a choice, cheaper options in the villages or more expensive options in the two cities of the territory, which will leave them in a smaller place for the same price but also with a shorter travel time. With the Principality hiring fellow Unity League member Tingerfall-Glantas' air force for their air defence, this has left two out of three air bases within the Principality defunct. Plans have been drawn up to either convert them to theme hotels, apartments, a museum and more. As of this moment however, none of these plans have been accepted and the fate of these bases remain in status quo.

Krosny-Zdzieszowice launches multiple Cieszyn-2 missiles, one Majestatyczność-1. Launches successful.
Image

Today the Socialist Republic of Krosny-Zdzieszowice celebrated the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Socialist Republic's first President of Krosny, Sólyom V. Sławomir. Krosny-Zdzieszowice has had a long, successful history in it's missile programs, both non-nuclear and nuclear. Today, to honor the extremely important and well-accounted for anniversary of our first President, the current President of Krosny has commemorated the birth by launching five missiles, four from land-based installations in the mountain regions of Krosny's south, and one from the submarine KNV Wielkokrosnov. The Cieszyn-2 missile is Krosny's newest land-based ICBM missile, with a current range of about 5,000+ miles according to official records, with the actual distance classified by the military. As well, another missile was launched from the submarine KNV Wielkokrosnov, which is the first submarine-launched missile to be produced completely domestically in Krosny-Zdzieszowice. It has a range of at least 3,000 miles, and operates using solid fuel.

At 8:23AM today, four missiles were launched from a series of MAZ-547 launchers at the Laszk Missile Launch Site which successfully reached into the middle atmosphere before landing in the ocean about 2 hours later in a controlled crash. At 10:30AM, the Majestatyczność-1 missile was launched from KNV Wielkokrosnov which landed in the ocean 3 hours later, after reaching 2,500 miles north into the ocean. The fact that all missiles successfully launches and were destroyed in a controlled fashion demonstrates the level of control that the Socialist Republic has over it's nuclear missiles in flight. After the successful launches, all operators of the MAZ-547 launchers that launched Cieszyn-4, Cieszyn-5, Ciezyn-6, and Cieszyn-7 as well as the Captain and Political Commissar onboard KNV Wielkokrosnov were given multiple awards for their excellent show of professionalism and experience in these tests.

Prime Minister Devononokan Kawerdrop resigns amidst continued controversy, Tarmashirin Ihbarhasvad to take the helm

Halfway through a second term strung with scandals, Kawerdrop has at last decided to fold his cards

Apr 15th, 2017 | Wavaxangrad, Második Inima Province, Zoboyizakoplayoklot

When Devononokin Kawerdrop was elected to a second term as Prime Minister in 2015, it looked like the start of something great. He was considered to be wildly popular amongst the working class and youth, and his first term had gone extremely well. He promised to continue his highly anticipated progressive social reforms going forward, while also swearing to give more power to provincial and municipal governments. So when Kawerdrop was elected following a landslide P&P majority in the Assembly of Delegates, it looked like Zoboyizakoplayoklot was going to have a leader that would finally elevate the nation upwards. As I'm sure most of the people reading this article know, that was not the case.

Fast forward two years into the term and Kawerdrop is struggling. He had lost much of the civilian support that had kept him strong during his debut term and subsequent re-election, and many of his campaign promises have fallen through the window. Despite having a majority in the legislature, conflicts within the P&P Party led to the failure of multiple proposed laws, including the banning of traditional Zobik folk healing and increases in foreign aid and defence. On top of that, the increase in federalism that Kawerdrop had declared "a national priority" had been abandoned, largely due to an increase in Yullish separatism, which many feared would be successful should the provinces be granted additional autonomy. But that was just the start of then controversies that would stain Kawerdrops name for good.

In February, Truthseeker, a right wing Grozyar news website, purported that Zoboyizakoplayoklot had been supporting communist guerrillas in Csoportsag via SpecOps support and the supplying of weapons and other non-lethal supplies. While the evidence is largely unconfirmed, this alleged act would mean that Zoboyizakoplayoklot is militarily working against a supposed ally (Grozav Inima), as the success of the communist guerrillas could potentially tip the fate of the Agualados-Csoportsag war in the favour of the Agualadosan pariah state, which the Grozyars had been hoping to help Csoportsag absorb. In addition to "Agualadosgate", a second controversy emerged earlier this week when an anonymous government whistleblower leaked multiple files regarding the secret Zoboyizakoplayokloti development of biological weapons in a classified blacksite in the Jókora Mountains. The files show proof of experiments regarding the weaponization of yersina pestis, as well as some supposed attempts at entomological agents, with testing conducted on a variety of live animals. This was the final nail in the coffin for Kawerdrop.

"I love this country, and I now know that the best for Zoboyizakoplayoklot is to have someone else as the acting Prime Minister." the former PM declared at the press conference where he declared his resignation, which was welcomed by his growing list of opponents. The Regent Waqerik signed a document shortly after confirming the PM's resignation, with the position now handed over to the (former) Minister of Domestic Affairs Tarmashirin Ihbarhasvad, effective tomorrow. Ihbarhasvad, a former Political Science professor and Mayor, will act as Prime Minister until the next scheduled election, which isn't until 2019. Thankfully, polls show him to be relatively popular for the time being.

When interviewed by the ZBG, Ihbarhasvad said little on what Zoboyizakoplayoklot should expect with him in power, only saying that this was "a surprise, yes, but a welcome one," while also expressing his intent to "fix what Kawerdrop broke," and "crack down on the Yullish traitors." He also briefly voiced his opinion on the Krosnian missle launches that occurred this morning, stating that while he "congratulates the Krosnian people on this important development," he believes that "If Zoboyizakoplayoklot can't tinker around with biological weapons, there's no way in hell they should be in possession of working nukes". When asked if a military intervention is possible, the new PM refused to answer.

Tune in tonight at 8:00 PM ZST for your nightly news.

President Jansone sees approval rating higher than disapproval for first time ever

Image
Cold, brutal, calculating, robotic, unelected: Jansone has been subject to harsh criticism since she assumed office in March 2016, after President Zemans assassination

PRESIDENT SOLVITA JANSONE HAS SEEN HER FIRST POSITIVE NET APPROVAL RATING SINCE SHE ASSUMED OFFICE LAST WEEK, with 49% approval, 42% disapproval, and 9% 'Don't Know'. Jansone, a member of the Labour Party, was elected Leader of Congress in December 2015 following their victory in the Congress election, and in March 2016 assumed the office of the Presidency after President Zeman was assassinated. Since taking up office, she consistently had low approval ratings, which gradually climbed until this week, when they surpassed disapproval for the first time.

Jansone, 60, had been a member of Congress since 1986. She was Labours nominee for President in 2010, and was leading Moderate candidate Zeman by a large margin, before withdrawing following her husbands death in an assassination attempt on her. She chose not to run for President again in 2015,
but instead ran for her partys nomination for Leader of Congress after Labour won a tiny majority (304 out of 600 seats) in Congress, which she won. Zeman, who was re-elected in 2015, was then assassinated in March of 2016 by leftist extremists after announcing his crackdown on communists and socialists. As Leader of Congress, Jansone was next in line for the Presidency, which she took up. Immediately she was hit with hard criticisms: Jansone was become 'cold', 'brutal', 'robotic', 'unlikeable', and most of all, 'unelected'. Most of those criticisms were said of her in 2010, however times were different then.

However her approval ratings began to climb beginning in June 2016. A healthy economic forecast for 2017, peace at home and a cooling political climate all contributed to her rising support. She was also praised for her refusal to resign from office; many seeing it as dedication.
She was also praised for her co-operation with the Moderates and the centre-right parties, having urged Labour to support a Moderate to be elected Leader of Congress, as well as pledging to continue with Zeman's cabinet.

And while President Jansone is becoming ever more popular, her party is continuing to hold unprecedented and unseen levels of support. Labour, in 2015, was the first ever party to win an absolute majority in Congress - Winning 304 seats, with 49.22% of the constituency vote and 56% of the party list vote, it was far ahead of the rest. In a recent poll conducted by PoliticWatch, out of a sample of 3,5000, Labour stood at 46% support, with Moderates and Reform trailing in joint second place at 12%. The poll results will be listed at the end of this article. However, analysts say that Labour's support will drop over the next 3 years and we will most likely return to the 50/50 split between the leftist bloc of parties (Labour, Justice, Alliance, Democratic) and rightist bloc (Moderate, Farmer's) by the elections of 2020. In fact, some political commentators speculate on a future Justice-Alliance merger,
and Democratic splitting into two parties, both moves which could weaken Labour. However, for the time being, Labour is a political might, despite it's support trending downwards.

POLLING - APPROVAL/DISAPPROVAL OF PRESIDENT SOLVITA JANSONE
Q: Do you approve or disapprove of President Solvita Jansone?

Approval - 49%
Disapproval - 42%
Don't Know/Undecided - 9%

Net Approval +7

POLLING - PARTY SUPPORT
Q: Which of the major six parties do you support?

Labour (Leftist Bloc) - 46%
Moderate Party (Rightist Bloc) - 12%
Farmer's Union (R. Bloc) - 12%
Justice (L. Bloc) - 11%
Alliance (L. Bloc) - 10%
Democratic (L. Bloc) - 5%

'Industrial District Grows'

As a sign of things starting to get better President Triminski confirmed today that the last of the rotting factories was purchased by Grunder Airship in a massive expansion due to the high demand of the emerging companies. An estimated 2 million will have permanent job over the course of three years. This comes after the government finally going into the green which has caused the president approval rate to hit 94 percent with his term coming to an end the president hasn't mentioned running for re-election however he mentioned he would consider running once more.

'Field Trials Begin for the SM-10'

The first dommestically produced main battle tank is set to enter trials today, built by Vermel Arms. The tank itself will mount the V-4/HV 155 mm gun which is set to also replace the aging anti-tank guns in the arsenel. The designed top speed is a blistering 55 MPH although the tank will cost a lot more to produce the president made it known that Smue will no longer import foreign made weapons and instead have it produced in Smue mostly through Vermel Arms which has gotten some competition from Grunn which has gotten a contract to begin designing a SPG as part of the modernization program which has gotten a lot of support from the military with the General saying 'It's about time Smue starts developing arms of it's own.'

HOUSING SECRETARY PILAROVÁ DECLARES 'CRISIS' AS HOMELESSNESS SURGES AGAIN; BUT NO FUNDING FOR GHOST ESTATES

Image
After the housing market crashed in 2004, ghost estates dotted the suburban landscape. In 2016, a survey ordered by the newly-created Department of Housing found 4.5 million uncompleted houses nationwide, much higher than estimates of 250-500 thousand

HOUSING SECRETARY VITA PILAROVÁ has said the homeless crisis has become a 'national emergency' in a recent statement as homelessness reaches 11% as the economy begins to slip, and President Jansone and the Labour Party backtrack on pledges to pour billions into developing ghost estates into social housing for the homeless, at odds with Housing Secretary Vita Pilarová, who says the economy will 'not just crash, but disappear completely' if efforts are not made to immediately start housing the homeless.

The amount of the population who have registered as having no place of residence has surged from 5% in December 2016 - when it was labeled a crisis by Jansone's administration and set up the Department of Housing to deal with the situation - to 11% as the Housing Secretary released new numbers.
The shocking and almost scandalous number has sent waves through government and the public, as it was then reported a 'human crush' occurred in the Riga Central Homeless Shelter, causing the deaths of 12 and the injury of 44. Housing Secretary Vita Pilarová is at odds with Jansone, as she fights for the promised 'billions for the Housing Department', as Jansone announced, due to a budget deficit, the new department will receive just '10% of what was originally promised'.

The reasons for the sudden surge in homelessness can be directly linked to the repeal of the Rent Control Act 2001, which was repealed by the Labour government in one of its new neoliberal policies, stating it was 'stagnating the housing market, and limiting income for landlords.". After the law was repealed, rents soared in urban areas. The average rent for a 2-bedroom apartment in Ostrava city centre before the repeal of the bill in September 2016 was standing at 4,983 M. Today it stands at 10,322 M, a drastic increase. Renting a 4-bedroom house in the suburbs of Riga, which is usually the national median, stood at 6,334 M before the repeal. Now it stands at 20,120 M. This enormous rise in rent has forced millions onto the streets, and the crisis has not become a major issue in Congress.

Pilarová warns the economy will 'disappear' if immediate action is took, as a 1989 law stipulates that it is illegal to employ anyone who has been homeless for over nine months, and any employee who has been homeless for over nine months must be immediately terminated. The law was introduced in 1989 as a means to reduce the pressure on homeless during the late 1980s recession, intending to protect homeless and give them benefits, however the benefits for the homeless have since been stopped as new welfare regulations stipulates one must have a place of residence to receive them.
Flaws in law means that millions will soon lose their jobs says Pilarová, and a new crisis will arise - a labour shortage, as the amount of qualified job-seekers with a place of residence will vastly decrease. Pilarová says the economy will 'shatter, splatter and die', and already the Ostrava Stock Market is becoming shaky as a result, with many analysts speculating the economy will 'plunge into depression, the stock market will crash, and millions more will lose jobs as a labour shortage will force industries to move overseas.'

Pilarová presents a single solution - The development of ghost estates (partially or fully completed housing estates that became uninhabited as a result of the housing market crash of 2011) into social housing units. There are 4.5 million homes fitting into this category, of which a sizeable figure,
35%, are fully completed in terms of infrastructure, and many more were near completion. She says the state must reward all these homes to her department, which will allocate them to homeless nationally, as well additional funding to prop up hundreds of temporary homeless shelters as to give them an address whilst the department comes up with a solution to house the millions of others after the social housing has been allocated. Pilarová's plan is widely supported by the public, as well as the Moderate's and Alliance, however her own party, the Labour Party, has unofficially scrapped the policy.

PORT ROYAL RENAMED PORT PIERCE BY POPULAR VOTE

Citizens of Tenburg voted in a referendum this weekend regarding the name of the capital city, formerly known as Port Royal. Port Pierce was voted out of five possible choices as the favorite among the Tennish, many of whom saw the renaming referendum as the abolition of the last remnant of the history of Leutish occupation (although no one discusses the hockey thing).

Prime Minister James O'Sullivan took to social media to offer his thoughts: "No name is more fitting to represent the capital of free Tenburg than that of the man who stood up for the rights of all free Tennish. If Michael Pierce were here today, I believe he would be overwhelmingly proud of the nation we have become."

Previous news posts not canon anymore, apart from President Jansone's climbing approval ratings, and Pres. Jansone is now Alliance. All history is still canon, and Pres. CONSERVATIVE UNION MEMBERS HEAD TO THE POLLS FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF LEADERSHIP PRIMARY

Former leader Vita Pilarová (pictured) resigned six months ago as Conservative Union Chairwoman in what is assumed to be in preparation for a run for President in 2020

CONSERVATIVE UNION MEMBERS NATIONWIDE HEAD TO THE POLLS FOR THE FIRST ROUND OF THE CU LEADERSHIP PRIMARY. The three-way race is tight, with candidates Ana Straujama, Aleksander Pilny, and Milos Sobotka all neck-and-neck in polls. The election of the Chair was called after Pilarová, who led the party into success at the Congressional elections in 2015, resigned from Congress and the party leadership to pursue the Governorship of Ostrava, and is expected to then run for President in 2020. The top two candidates, if no one candidate wins a majority, will progress to a second round.

The leadership election was called by former leader Vita Pilarová, who served as leader from 2012 through to her resignation on the 1st of February of this year. Pilarová's resignation was not unexpected, after leaks from inside sources revealed the Congresswoman was planning to run for the CU's nomination for President in 2020, and by party rules, she would had to resign from her post at least two years before the party begins to allow candidates to file to run in the party's primary in 2020, which begins in 2019. Pilarová led the party into success at the ballot box in 2015 - Although Conservative Union lost Congress to Alliance, it retained the Presidency (Which it later lost after the assassination of Zeman in late 2015), and won control of nine out of eleven state legislatures and ten governorships, giving it absolute control of eight states, and control of the legislature in one, and control of the governorship in another. Pilarová lifted the party to it's most powerful position since it's formation in 1986, and her stepping down is a major loss to the party in the short-term.

Ana Straujama is narrowly head over her rivals in first-round polling, coming out with an average of 36% over the past week, over Pilny and Sobotka tying at 32%. She has maintained this small lead since the beginning of the campaign, and many say she is safely into the second round. However, who will emerge the victor in the second round is still a mystery. Straujama-Sobotka are tied, Straujama-Pilny have Straujama with a 0.5% lead - essentially a tie - and Pilny-Sobotka have Sobotka at 54% and Pilny at 46%. Sobotka has spent the most time on the trail, having held at least one event daily since the campaign kicked off in March, whereas Straujama has poured more resources into internet and television campaigning, allowing her to hold less events on the trail, although in the past week she has held the most rallies and events. Pilny, as the grassroots candidate, has held the least in-person events, due to most of his funding being small donations, however he has a large online presence.

Straujama, who is bookie's favourite to emerge victorious in both rounds (although Sobotka and Pilny are right behind her), wants to massively downsize the party's bureaucracy and re-structure party leadership, by eliminating local party branches, and merging district branches, and centralising powers into the state parties and federal party. She also wants to, in line with Pilarová, soften the party's social policies, whilst retain it's liberal low-tax economic stance. Straujama has said her first action will to call a party national conference - the first since 1991 - with state and district parties sending delegations, to debate and propose new policies and reforms. This is an extremely popular idea amongst voters and party officials. Straujama has been a Congresswoman since 2000, being elected from Ventspils-2 in 2000, 2005, and 2010. In 2015, she was elected from the party list, being placed fifth on the list. She served as Defense Secretary in the Zeman Administration from 2010 until 2016, when the Jansone cabinet was sworn in.

Sobotka, aged just 32 (Straujama is 49, and Pilny is 53), has been described as a 'breath of fresh air'. He wants reform within the party - Open presidential primaries, primaries to select Conservative Union candidates for a Congressional district (rather than selection by the state or district party), devolving more powers to the local-level party branches and wishes to make the leadership more transparent. Sobotka previously served as Conservative Youth Chairman from 2010 until 2015, when he stepped down as a result of turning 30 and being elected to Congress from Ostrava-3. His ideas of expanding the already messy bureaucracy of CU is rather unpopular - But his undeniable charm, clean record, and relative new image has helped him along the way, as well as his popular policy of opening up the presidential primaries and establishing primaries for candidates running in Congressional districts, and maintaining party selection for filling seats allocated to CU from the party list vote. He is second-favourite to win, however his dreams may be ended quickly if Pilny beats him for second place, and a place in the second round.

Pilny has had an unprecedented rise in the race. Pilny, an Assemblyman in the Zemgale Assembly, pledges to reform the party in drastic measures - Changing the system of how the presidential nominee is chosen, instead of by popular vote in a primary, having it 50% popular vote and 50% party official vote (Congressmembers from the party, members of the individual state legislatures, other party officials will also be allocated a vote) and the winner of the aggregated result will be the nominee. He also pledges to become stricter on elected party members that stray from the party platform - This is one of the factors that has led to CU's decline in national polling, as party infighting has caused voter confidence to drop drastically (A recent poll by TV3 has put Alliance at 60 points, CU at 38, in generic ballot polling for the 2020 Congressionals, and Jansone at 55 points over a generic CU candidate, which stands at 36) to historically low levels. He has led a grassroots campaign, with little support from party leadership and officials, and all of his campaign donations come from small individual donations from the public. Pilny has been noted for his strong debate performances against Sobotka, however even Pilny falls short of defeating Straujama, a renowned public speaker, in the debates.

Straujama has garnered the most endorsements from prominent party figures - Including outgoing Pilarová. She has won the support from all of the CU Governors, 201 of the 233 CU Congresspeople, hundreds of CU state legislature representatives and many other figures, as well as former President Ivanov, who ruled from 2000 to 2005. Sobotka comes a distant second in endorsements - Just 2 Congresspeople have endorsed him, one of them being himself, however Young Conservatives have given them his backing, as well as the Ostrava Conservative Union. Pilny has the endorsement of 30 Congresspeople, but lacks backing from state, district and local branches of the party.

It has been speculated that, if Straujama were to win, she would name Pilny as her deputy chair. It has also been speculated that if Pilny were to place second and then progress to the second round, he would withdraw and Straujama would emerge victorious without the need for a runoff.

CU LEADERSHIP: STRAUJAMA DECLARED WINNER AS SHE AND PILNY PROGRESS TO SECOND BALLOT; PILNY WITHDRAW

Image
Businesswoman-turned-Congresswoman Ana Straujama has been elected to be Conservative Union Chairwoman

ANA STRAUJAMA HAS OFFICIALLY BEEN DECLARED VICTOR OF THE 2017 CONSERVATIVE UNION LEADERSHIP CONTEST, after capturing an unexpected 49% of the popular vote in the first round, with ally Pilny coming a distant second with 30%, and Sobotka capturing a disappointing 21%. Shortly Straujama and Sobotka were declared the winners of the first round and would progress to the second ballot, Pilny announced he would withdraw and endorsed Straujama, meaning she is the only candidate left standing and thus automatically elected. The result shocked many -
While Straujama did lead all polls, she polled barely ahead of Sobotka and Pilny, and her near-majority was a surprise, possibly aided by the huge turnout (93% of registered CU members). Straujama will officially take office on the 10th of June.

Conservative Union members nationwide went to the ballot yesterday to elect the new chair of the party, whose responsibilities are the running and organisation of the party. Straujama called for radical reform of the party, which included the abolishment of the local level party branches (town branches, village branches) and the grouping of district branches (Every Congressional district has it's own district branch of the party) to form larger, multi-constituency district branches. She calls for the federal party consolidating power, and adopted ally Pilny's view of coming down hard on party dissidents and infighting. Her reform is seen as necessary for many - While the party experienced huge and historic success in the 2015 Presidential and state elections, their popularity quickly turned sour as cracks and rifts within the party emerged, the party delved into civil war, causing it's popularity in the polls to plummet.

Straujama celebrated her success when exit polls came out, some forecasting that she would even win an absolute majority in the vote, although she came close. With Straujama at the helm, the party's future seems bright, with many seeing Straujama's reforms helping end party turmoil, streamlining party structure and consolidating party within the state parties and federal party. Straujama is speculated to run for the Presidency (Governorship) of Riga in 2020.

BREAKING: RIGA GOVERNOR PARKANOVÁ AND RIGA LABOUR PARTY SPLIT FROM FEDERAL PARTY

Image
Governor of Riga Annita Parkanová and the Riga Labour Party has officially split from the federal Labour Party

THE FRAGILE LABOUR PARTY WAS HIT WITH ANOTHER DISASTROUS BLOW AS RIGA GOVERNOR PARKANOVÁ AND THE ENTIRE RIGA LABOUR PARTY SPLIT FROM THE FEDERAL LABOUR PARTY, in response to criticisms and punishments unleashed upon Parkanová and the Riga Labour Party by the federal party as it pursues a new neoliberal platform that strays from the federal party platform which other state member parties conform to. The move was announced at seven o'clock this morning, on the steps of the Prague Palace in downtown Riga city. The move means the party no longer receives support from the federal party, and is directly recipient of state funding for major state parties, however since it is only organised in Riga state does not receive major federal party funding.

Parkanová and other RLP leaders clashed heads with other Labour leaders after Parkanová revealed her ambitious, low-tax pro-business platform that she aimed would restart the Rigan economy, which has been in decline since the 1980s as heavy and light industry left the state. This includes offering tax incentives and breaks for companies invited to set up in Riga by a to-be-established Riga Economic Bureau, investments into infrastructure and the lowering of personal taxes and on businesses existent in the state. She maintains the same social issue views as the federal party, however the economic plan caused the RLP and Parkanová to be threatened with 'expulsion' from the federal party, which was a threat that would never be carried out because of the blow to the federal party it would bring, and they also banned Parkanová from seeking Labour's nomination for President for life until such a point she abandoned her platform and conformed to the federal party's platform, which has hurt Riga rather than help it since Jansone assumed the Presidency.

RLP registered as an independent, state party with the Elections Commission this morning, before being registered as an affiliate party of the federal Labour Party. This means that it will receive more funding than it did as part of Labour, as the federal party was in charge of receiving and distributing state funding and other income to the member parties, whereas now it is in direct recipient of federal funding and collecting member subscriptions, however now it must cover all expenses including campaign costs. The party has also a month to move out of it's headquarters, which is owned by the federal party. However, the future looks bright for the independent RLP, atleast for now. Over 90% of RLP members approve of the split, in an emergency poll done from 9 AM to 3 PM and a pool of 10000 RLP members, done by NTVMoravia in partnership with TV4 Riga.

This may be the end for Labour. Cracks within the party began to show late last year, but after Straujama was elected Chairwoman of the Conservative Union, Labour began falling apart after poll numbers nosedived, and the party internally split into factions. Labour now stands at 42 points, behind Conservative Union's 55 nationally, a record low, although in the last poll taken in Riga state before the split, it stood at 56 points in Riga. Labour now lacks any representation in Riga state, and although the most logical solution to this is to set up another party in the state or even, for a first in M-R politics, directly go into the state rather than found an affilate party, it is highly unlikely to do so as Parkanová has momentous support from Labour supporters in Riga. The fact that one of the internal factions has split from the party may have a domino effect, leading to more splits from the party.
Labour Chairman Andrej Ivanov has scheduled a meeting for tomorrow morning, where he is expected to tender his resignation as chair.

Rumours have already begun that the RLP's neighbour Liberec Labour Party may quit the federal party and unite with the RLP, or a faction within the LLP may walk out of the party and set up their own. This comes as Parkanová has made the case for her platform across the southwestern states.
Some analysts predict that Parkanován Labourites, and those from the CU's left-wing, nationally may unite and the RLP would transform into a centrist, federal political force and offer a third solution to the left-wing right-wing politics of Labour and CU. However, one thing analysts and journalists alike can agree on is: Watch this space.

20 YEARS ON: CONSERVATIVE UNION FOUNDED

Image
The woman who started it all: Former President Vita Ivanová was the woman who united the right and established the Conservative Union at it's launch in 1997. Vita served as President from 2000 to 2010. She was jailed in 2013 for life after being convicted of corruption charges,
before she appealed and was cleared of any wrongdoing in 2014, and was released in 2015.

IT HAS BEEN 20 YEARS SINCE THE FOUNDATION OF MORAVIA-REZEKNE'S MOST DOMINANT POLITICAL FORCE SINCE THE FALL OF THE JUNTA. Conservative Union, a merger of Christian Democrats, Democratic Alliance, Blue Union, and Democratic Conservatives in 1997. The party was formed in a response to the left merging into the Labour Party in 1994, and the merger took over 2 years to negotiate,
with the CD's Vita Ivanová playing a critical role in it's formation, and led the party into huge success at the 2000 and 2005 elections.

Conservative Union's founding was the result of nearly three years of constant negotiating. The four major right-wing parties (CD, DA,
BU, DC) almost abandoned negotiations in 1996, before Vita Ivanová, who led the small Christian Democrats, took charge of leading negotiations. Under her guide, the parties signed a binding agreement in early 1997 that established a timeline for merging, and led up to the launch of the Conservative Union on August 12th, 1997. Without Ivanová, it is likely the right would have continued to decline in polls as a result of disunity and infighting, and Labour would have gone on to dominate the 2000s.

Ivanová also devised a party structure that gave party members an extremely large say. The federal party was made up of state parties, which in itself were made up of district parties, and in turn they were made up of local parties. Under this system, the local member-run party branches had the dominant say about what happened at the top, in the federal party. It was this system, differing from the single national party model used by all parties, that led to the huge success in the 2000 elections. Labour also adopted the model in 2001. However, over the years,
this model has shown it's age and is riddled with corruption and bureaucracy, causing gridlock and infighting within the party, which has caused newer generations of party leadership to streamline the model, with incumbent CU Chairwoman Straujama planning to eliminate local party branches completely.

The party's first taste of success was at the 1997 Ostrava gubernational and state legislative election. Ostrava is one of two states to hold their state elections outside the national election calendar, and the Ostrava elections were held in December of 1997. Labour and the former left-wing parties had dominated the state, which was a predominately urban state as the federal capital, Ostrava, and it's surrounding metropolitan region accounted for an overwhelming majority of the land and population of the state. Ivanová was the CU nominee for Governor, and she won with about 58% of the vote, a landslide for CU in the state. Of the 400 seats in the Ostrava Assembly, Conservative Union won a record 288.
It is the only and last time the right has won the state elections in Ostrava.

In 2000, Ivanová won the CU presidential primaries uncontested. She was polling around 52-53% in the general, challenged by Labour's Andrej Vilny. Ivanová ended up exceeding the polls predictions, and won with 55% of the vote, and CU won 322 seats out of the 500 up for election.
Ivanová led the CU into smaller success in the 2005 federal elections, winning 51% of the vote and the CU winning a slimmer 269 seats.
Nevertheless, the party grew again in support and in 2010, when Ivanová chose to not reseek election, Ivan Zeman was nominated by the party and won with 53% of the vote, and 288 seats. The party saw victory again with Zeman in 2015, winning 50.1% of the presidential tally,
however lost it's majority in Congress, winning 229 seats. Zeman was assassinated just weeks after the election, by a Ivanová supporter as Zeman had jailed her over false corruption charges in 2013, of which she was later cleared of, in an attempt to essentially 'shut her up' of her critique of his presidency. It was this assassination that handed power back over to Labour, whose Solvita Jansone was de facto Vice President as Labour controlled Congress, and Jansone was elected President by Congress to serve the rest of Zeman's term.

20 years on, Conservative Union remains strong. It leads in the polls, party infighting for the moment has been eliminated, and it is on track to regain Congress and the Presidency in 2020. It is also on target to win the Ostrava state elections come December, and by a large margin.
However, a split on the left that has led to Parkanová and her centrist followers go rogue could lead to a drain of support from both major parties in the case she launches a federal centrist party. However, there is no doubt the Conservative Union remains strong and will likely remain the dominant political force for many years to come.

LIBEREC LABOUR SPLITS; GOV. NEMCOVÁ JOINS FORCES WITH PARKANOVÁ

Image
Governor of Liberec Yvonne Nemcová has declared an alliance between her LLP and RLP

PARKANOVÁ'S CLOSEST ALLY WITHIN LABOUR HAS OFFICIALLY SPLIT FROM THE PARTY, HAULING HER STATE WITH HER. Liberec Gov. Nemcová, elected in 2000 and currently serving her historic fourth term, has led her party out of the federal Labour Party and declaring allegiance with Parkanová, who was previously considered Nemcová's 'protege' of sorts. Labour has began to crumble rapidly, as a centrist 'third-way' movement has sprung up nationally, affecting Labour more so than Con. Union.

Nemcová made the announcement at midday today during an emergency session of the LLP Executive Board. She will meet with Parkanová next Wednesday in Riga to discuss the possibility of founding a party together, or to discuss the terms if a looser coalition of state parties was to form. Labour leadership at the federal level is under extreme pressure, and so are Labour governors as it seems there has been a paradigm shift within Labour and the general voters beliefs, with a slide to neoliberal tendencies. Conservative Union is matching the trend as it inches towards the centre, however Labour federally remains staunchly left-wing, with harsh punishments for any politician that steps out of line,
with Con. Union being more laxed towards such things.

Liberec Labour Party officially registered as a state party free of any federal affiliation at four this evening. They severed ties in writing with
a letter signed by LLP Executive Board members, that was delivered to Labour HQ in Ostrava. The move by Nemcová has confirmed many loyal Labourites worst fears -
there will be a domino effect from Parkanová's split. The party is stumbling, and may be a wake up call to try and soothe the trauma and possibly reincorporate Parkanová and Nemcová within the party, or to continue to allow the party to fall apart piece by piece.

As of now, there is two state parties suspect to split: Ostrava Labour Party, which if it were to split would immediately cause the federal party to disintegrate,
as it is by far the largest and most influential and has controlled the capital for many years. However, OLP may not leave the federal party, but rather a Parkanová/Nemcová splinter group within the party forming their own, as the OLP is 50/50 split between Jansone and Parkanová/Nemcová. Many state parties may see an internal faction allied with RLP/LLP leave and form their own parties. The other state party suspect to leave the federal party entirely is Valmiera, which only became a state in 2001, after a referendum within the now-state overwhelming approved to secede from Jurmala. Valmiera has similar circumstances to Riga and Liberec: it thrived under the junta, as it lines the border with autonomous Sakala, and became an industrial hub after the junta's fall. However, rising transportation and labour costs has forced industry to relocate elsewhere in the nation or into Sakala. While Valmiera is under control of Conservative Union, the VLP has adopted Parkanová's platform, and a centrist grassroots movement has existed for years within the party, which has never held power within the state.

The Labour Party is crumbling - and it seems that a new, third party is to be founded very soon, that will damage both major parties. Watch this space.

VALMIERA LABOUR PARTY QUITS: TRIPARTY ALLIANCE TO OFFICIALLY ESTABLISH NEW PARTY SUNDAY

Image
Juha Laasonen, the Sakalan-born leader of the Valmiera Labour Party since 2015, announced that the VLP would split from the Federal LP and join forces with RLP/LLP to create what Parkanová has called the 'Triparty'.

AFTER WEEKS OF SPECULATION, Juha Laasonen, leader of the VLP, announced his party would become independent of the federal party, and would join forces with Parkanová and Nemcová, his Moravian counterparts. The so-called 'Biparty Alliance' of RLP and the LLP has received waves of support nationally - if the Biparty (RLP/LLP) were to expand nationally, a poll revealed last Monday, it would savage both sides support, with backing of 45% of the electorate (25% would back LP, 30% backing CU). Laasonen and his party have yet to file that the VLP is independent of the federal party yet, but plans to do so in the coming days. Parkanová has said that a new, federal party will be officially announced and established on Sunday, but refuses to reveal any more details, but hinted that she is in talks with her allies federally on establishing state parties under the banner of the new party.

Valmiera, which officially became a state just sixteen years ago in 2001 after a referendum to secede from the state of Jurmala passed by landslide, has had a similar recent history to Riga and Liberec. The state, then a province of Jurmala, was booming since the 70s, as it encompasses the entire border with the autonomous state of Sakala, and was the second focus of military activities. Per capita, it had the second-highest GDP from 1971 through 1990, constantly behind Riga and ahead of Liberec. However, due to it's mountainous and rough terrain, with a low and poorly educated population and exhausted natural resources - the coal mining industry was halted in 1985 after 150 years of mining, the reserves had been exhausted), there was no incentive for business to set up and replace military jobs lost after the military closed nearly all of its' operations in the province in the early 1990s. By 2000, the province had the lowest per-capita GDP in the nation, crime was high, and it received little funding from the state and federal government. It was that Jurmala directed little funding to it's largest - and least populated - province that drove the statehood referendum, in which then Valmiera could receive adequate funding from it's own taxes and federal funding handed out to states.

Laasonen took the VLP to the centre upon his election as leader back in 2015 - when the party received it's largest ever defeat in state and federal elections. The party has never won the governorship of the state, and controls just a measly fifth of the 120-seat state legislature. However, after his election as leader of the party, it saw a surge in popularity, from 24% to 48% in the last poll done by the Valmiera Press, a record high, and it's momentum has only speeded up in the past weeks. Laasonen, who has similar views to his Triparty allies, was not punished by the federal party for leading his party out of line with the federal platform, mainly out of fear his growing support could revert if he was punished, however he still defended Parkanová and others. In December, all 56 Valmieran local councils will hold elections, after state law reorganising local authority within Valmiera went into effect this year, meaning fresh elections are to be held. All eyes are on the election, which will show whether or not Laasonen has the support of the people to push for a 2020 bid for governor.

Laasonen was born in 1957 in Naarva in then-Sakala State, thirteen years before it became a self-ruling entity. His parents were involved in the resistance against President Ozolina, who used her absolute power to marginalise ethnic Sakalans. After they were killed in 1964 in a clash between rebels and military forces,
Laasonen was taken in by his uncle and his wife who lived in Kenina, in Valmiera Province of Jurmala. When he was 18, he fled Moravia-Rezekne for Sakala,
illegally crossing the heavily-fortified border, as he refused to serve his mandatory five years in the military. He studied law and politics in the University of Naarva,
and became a licensed solicitor following graduation. At the age of 30, he moved back to Kenina following the junta's downfall, and began his 30-year political career later in 1987, running for the state legislature, contesting Jurmala's 99th district, with the nomination of the Valmieran People's Party (VPP). He later joined the National Coalition in 1991, which was one of the founding parties of Labour in 1994. Since 2000, he has been a member of Congress, elected from first Jurmala-15,
then Valmiera-2, a seat he has served since 2001 without any major competition. He won the VLP leadership election uncontested.

NATIONAL FRONTIER - THE NEW FACE OF A GENERATION

Image
Governor Parkanová, leader of the National Frontier, speaks at the party launch today in Riga

PARKANOVÁ'S POLITICAL MOVEMENT HAS FINALLY GOTTEN A OFFICIAL FOOTING - NATIONAL FRONTIER, THE THIRD VOICE IN M-R POLITICS..
Parkanová, joined by Gov. Nemcová of Liberec, Gov. Laasonen of Valmiera, and Gov. Kalnina of Valka, along with 49 Congressmen and women and hundreds of state assemblymembers from across the nation, joined forced this morning at the delayed party launch, scheduled for Sunday but postponed to this morning as the party underwent talks to sway more to their side. The party will organised independent state parties that were governed and regulated by a federal party, alike the set-up to Labour and CU, but the state parties would have more power in NF's structure.

National Frontier has attracted defectors from both Labour and Conservative Union, and has caused Labour to lose it's power of Congress, and CU becoming the largest in Congress, although not having enough to have a majority. National Frontier now has control of four states - with Governor Ivetta Kalnina's Valkan People's Party,
the first Conservative Union member party to leave the federal alliance and join National Frontier, while the Riga LP, Valmiera LP, and Liberec LP all rebranding themselves as the 'Rigan Frontier', 'Valmieran Alliance', and 'Liberec Frontier,' respectively. VPP remains with it's current banner. It is organised so far in eight states,
being the said four, as well as Ostrava, Jurmala, Ventspils, and Brno. Ostravan Frontier has become the largest party in the unicameral Ostravan Metropolitan Assembly, although the governorship remains out of reach, and the Jurmalan Frontier has tied for second place with the JLP in the Jurmala Senate, and is third in the Jurmalan Assembly, and the party comes in third in the Ventspils and Brno assemblies.

Valkan Governor Ivetta Kalnina only struck a deal with NF and Parkanová yesterday night, after eight hours of telenegotiations concluded with the NF agreeing to support greater Valkan autonomy, a hot topic in Valka, where the majority of the electorate, including Gov. Kalnina, wants autonomy for the state, alike that of Sakala. The loss of Kalnina and the VPP marks a significant blow to the Conservative Union - The party has governed the state since CU's formation, supporting Kalnina. However, Moravia-Rezekne's Iron Lady defected, as a result of dissatisfaction with funding, policies, and the refusal to support Valkan autonomy, or at least become neutral on the issue.

Parkanová confirmed National Frontier will nominate a candidate for President in 2020, and will hold a primary that would allow party members to elect their nominee. However, Parkanová declared she would not run in 2020, and would instead concentrate on building the National Frontier, and on Congressional and state politics. Immediately eyes turned on Kalnina, who ran in 2005 for the CU nomination but lost by less than 1000 votes, and Nemcová, who hasn't kept her presidential ambitions secret, and was a candidate for the Labour nomination in 2000 when she was a Congresswoman, but withdrew due to a car accident early in the race.

Today marks a significant turning point for M-R politics. A third force has emerged, and with considerable public support. Parkanová and allies seem on track to sweep Congressional, state and the Presidential elections in 2020, with the momentum they already have. The party confirmed it is still in negotiations with politicians nationally, and claims to be close to securing a deal with two governors, and a state Conservative Union party, although it declined to specify. It seems that Labour and Conservative Union may have to do some thinking.

OSTRAVA AIRPORT TO RECEIVE MULTI-BILLION MARK EXPANSION

Image
Ostrava Airport, the gleaming gateway to the capital, has an unexpected rapid rise of passenger numbers, causing a push for further expansion

71 MILLION PEOPLE TRANSITED THROUGH OSTRAVA AIRPORT IN 2016. Take that in. When it opened in 2003, Ostrava's new airport was intended to handle just 40 million, but it hit that point by 2005, causing a ten-year long expansion program that saw the official capacity raised to 75 million. Now, it's feared it'll hit that before 2020, as the gleaming gateway to the nation has an overcrowding crisis on it's hands.

The plan to expand further comes from a report issued by the Department of Transport and Infrastructure, which plan to plough billions of marks into the airport over the next year, aiming to expand it to a total capacity of 100 million and adding another runway, planned to be the country's longest. The unexpected rise comes as Moravia-Rezekne's economy expands at an explosive rate since the crash of the late 1990s, and carriers like National, AMR, and Interjet are offering affordable fares for travellers if they go via Ostrava. Tourism in Moravia-Rezekne has seen rapid growth over the last decade, with Ostrava being the primary gateway to the country. Interjet has also began to focus many domestic fliers from small regional airports in the north, who intend to connect onto another flight, as well as passengers originating in Valka, vastly increasing passenger numbers. The airport's underground Airtrain system, which links different parts of the airport, means passengers can transport themselves quickly across the airport.

Currently Ostrava has one terminal, with five satellite concourses - separate smaller independent buildings located across the airport, housing more gates, however often these do not have any amenities apart that would be seen in the main terminal, and are linked by the Airtrain system. T1-5 was the last phase of expansion, a 30-gate concourse built on the southernmost edge of the site, opened in early 2015. The largest airline at the airport is domestic Interjet, which has always been Ostrava's and the nations largest airline, and made up 45% of all traffic in the airport alone. A huge selection of other carriers, domestic and international, also serve the mega-airport.

The Department's plan for the airport includes the construction of an enormous second terminal - with 150 gates, as well as three 30-gate satellite concourses - as well as two additional runways, and an enormous cargo facility built on a man-made island connecting to the airport by taxiway. The airport, which is owned by the Department, is extremely profitable - It has since earned back the billions of Marks it invested in the 10-year expansion program, and earned back the initial costs of building the airport in the early 2000's by 2005. It says it is confident it will easily earn back the cost of the airport's newest expansion plan. A multitude of carriers, from home and abroad, have signed onto the plan in support of the Department. Cargo airlines, which currently are forced to use an ageing facility located at the former air base of Grad in East Ostrava, have also expressed support for the expansion. The plan also outlines an expansion to the Airtrain system - With T2 and it's respective satellites getting their own separate line, and a middle-ground station where passengers can easily connect from T1 to T2 and vice versa on the system. The plan would mean the airport's capacity would be increased to 120 million.

The new plan will be expected to go into the design stages once it gets approval from Ostrava city and state governments, and the approval from President Jansone. No trouble over the proposal in expected, and may go into the planning stages as soon as December, and ground will likely be broken by 2020. Depending on the timeline set out, we could see the plan roll out over few or several years, but Ostrava Airport will undoubtedly seal it's position as one of the world's leading airports with this enormous expansion proposal.

INTERJET RETIRES LAST DC-10; END OF AN ERA AT THE DOMESTIC GIANT

Image
Interjet retired it's final DC-10, marking the end of a revolutionary era in domestic travel

THE END OF THE 'THREE-ENGINED REVOLUTION' HAPPENED TODAY, AS INTERJET FLIGHT 380 DEPARTED OSTRAVA FOR BRNO. With 380 passengers aboard, the flight was full, marking the end of the trijet's service globally. Mainly aviation enthusiasts, journalists, and pass Interjet employees were aboard the flight, as well as Interjet CEO Marie Ardanová. The trijet has served in Interjet's domestic flight since 1972, being produced under contract by Sakalan manufacturer Sakalair, although this final example in Interjet's fleet rolled off the production line in 1999, one of the last.
It marks a significant transition at Interjet, who's widebody fleet comprises only of close to 120 767-400's.

The flight was scheduled for 18:30, although passengers were asked to come two hours early to attend the farewell party that would be held in Ostrava Airport, rather than the normal 30-minute before departure. At this reception, there was cake, drinks and memorabilia being handed out to the lucky ones who nabbed a ticket on this flight, as it was fully-booked within minutes when Interjet announced the final flight would be today just a month ago, which is the first ever in Interjet: Much like bus or train services, passengers often do not prebook flights on Interjet, and when they do, are only allowed to two weeks prior. Instead they buy ticket upon arrival to the airport. If a flight were to become fully booked and their was a large number of additional passengers, Interjet would call in another aircraft from it's fleet, flexibility being one of Interjet's core pillars, with the DC-10 being the aircraft that initially allowed Interjet to have this large flexibility.

Passengers who attended the party reminisced on the trijet - One passenger, 67 year old Annette Straujama-Pilarová, an aviation fan and business owner in Ventspils, said she remembered 'being in Ventspils Airport in 1991 to attend the All-National State Football final between Ventspils and Ostrava, trying to get a seat on a flight to Ostrava to see the match, I had tickets for the match for me and my whole family. Interjet had about 20 747s and even more DC-10s, but they were all full by ten the morning of the match. There was thousands coming onto the airport - Interjet was scrambling to try and find more jets. They were cancelling and merging flights across the country to get planes into Ostrava, and luckily enough we got a brand new DC-10 - straight off the production line, it had been delivered only a week before, and was only meant to start flying the next day. I can still remember the new plane smell!'. Other passengers remembered 'there was nothing quite like a DC-10. It was the bus of the sky. Not even Interjet's 747s matched the comfort and quietness of the DC-10!'

Outside Gate 3 was the gleaming DC-10, stood proudly in the sunshine. Next to the ageing DC-10, at Gate 4, was a 767-400, scheduled to depart ten minutes later, meant to cover for passengers who intended to fly on Flight 380, but since it was fully booked weeks prior, would allow for normal passenger activity. Flight 380 started boarding at 18:15, and was fully boarded within seven minutes. The gate closed at 18:22 after all passengers had been boarded and accounted for, and the aircraft backed out at 18:25. It took off on time at 18:30, enroute to Ostrava. The flight, where a number of festivities took place on board and goodies were handed out, lasted nearly three hours, touching town in Ostrava at 21:04. It was greeted by a water salute and a humongous crowd, with airline staff greeting it on the ground at the gate for a photoshoot, and by large crowds of people who cheered on from the airport perimeter, for which the DC-10 taxiied by to allow for photography. The aircraft is being stored on-site near Interjet's mechanical and engineering facilities, due to be displayed in the under-construction Aviation History wing of the National Museum.

Interjet began winding down DC-10 operations in 2003, when it operated 135 of the type, phasing out it's DC-10's from the 1970s and 80s at first with brand new 767-400 aircraft. By the start of this year, only three examples still flew, and by July the other two were retired. The jet became the official flagship aircraft of Interjet in 1987, as it's iconic status, and with it being the most popular type amongst passengers, replacing the 747 as the flagship type, although the 747 remained in the fleet as an important part in the Golden Triangle flights. The 747 was retired from the fleet in 1999. Now, the type will go down in history as a aviation revolution: It completely transformed how citizens transited the country. Pre-1978, all interstate travel had to be approved by military officials. After 1978, citizens could freely travel the country, and demand for flights blew up. The 747s, which were then Interjet's main aircraft, was only able to fly to only a handful of airports, whereas the DC-10 was able to land and dock at most major airports, as well as numerous regional and small airports. Because of this, and it's lower capacity and lower cost-per-seat, Interjet selected it to form the backbone of it's domestic fleet,
accompanied by feeder fleets of single-aisle and regional aircraft. This move proved very successful: The DC-10 became the 'airbus' as it was popularly known, and a cultural icon. And forever it will remain the unchallenged Queen of the Skies, for Moravia-Rezekne at least.
