You know, one concept that's not done a lot in NationStates (although it shows up a few times) is the retro future utopia. An interesting twist on it might be to make it in some way fake (simulation/virtual reality, magic, anomalous). A well-developed one would also be great for culture shocks with not only more modern, Transhuman / Digital-Age powers, but also Science Fantasy a la Star Wars.

True, you don't see very many anachronistic punk nations around. I keep telling Aterria that his tech level and time span would make so much more sense in the context of a ray/atompunk retro setting. Introducing later techs into the mix kinda defeats the purpose though, at least a little.

I mean, that's literally Fallout...minus the "utopia" bit, but utopias are boring.

Fallout definitely has that kind of ray/atompunk tech aesthetic going on, but is very much post-apocalyptic. I'm guessing Ashkera was imagining something more along the lines of The Jetsons.

I mean, I'm talking more about the pre-war than the actual setting. Basically, if The Jetson's was some world's FT, Fallout's pre-war era would be it's PMT.

What would you guys do to make it a failed utopia? (I was actually thinking an actual utopia of that kind could be fun for F7ers.)
- Social science didn't advance as fast as engineering?
- Whole world is locked in a paranoid cold war?
- Technology is subtly driving people to depression and separation?

Well, failed utopia is actually a core theme of the Frencoverse. The world was quite a pleasant place to live in for much of the 20th century, with relative peace (in spite of the three-way Cold War between the USA, USSR and China) and high living standards. That, of course, changes when the world starts to run out of fossil-fuel resources and global warming starts to spiral out of control, forcing the world to go to war with itself in the mad scramble for the world's last remaining oil reserves. That war was the Resource Wars/Great World War Three that ended with the nuclear war, known in the NFE as 'the Great War' and Mekhrus as 'the Sundering'.

Done and done. Everything's fine, culture and the domestic economy are hitting new highs, atomic energy and space travel are revolutionizing every field of life and society, and... What's that? The US has no allies, everything's going to hell just a hop over The Pond, and the economy is predicted to crash within the decade?

Oh. At least we've got Coca-Cola.

The only problem is that every single country in the Middle East and Europe has experienced some form of social upheaval or major military conflict in the past half-decade.

It literally just shifts the first line over the name/flag bar, removes the second and gets rid of the time. See my more recent posts in my RP with Sidhae (here) for details - you can steal the format for your own malignant ends if you so wish.

Looks pretty nice, but I also like having the time as part of the post header since it is relevant to the RWW RP, so I guess I'll stick to the previous iteration for now.

If that was supposed to have been a joke threat, you did a very poor job of conveying it as such. I'd like to suggest that you calm down immediately before you get yourself into trouble.
